哀歌	Lamentations 1	1
1	1 How lonely sits the city That was full of people! How like a widow is she, Who was great among the nations! The princess among the provinces Has become a slave!	ああ、むかしは、民の満ちみちていたこの都、国々の民のうちで大いなる者であったこの町、今は寂しいさまで座し、やもめのようになった。もろもろの町のうちで女王であった者、今は奴隷となった。
1	2 She weeps bitterly in the night, Her tears are on her cheeks; Among all her lovers She has none to comfort her. All her friends have dealt treacherously with her; They have become her enemies.	これは夜もすがらいたく泣き悲しみ、そのほおには涙が流れている。そのすべての愛する者のうちには、これを慰める者はひとりもなく、そのすべての友はこれにそむいて、その敵となった。
1	3 Judah has gone into captivity, Under affliction and hard servitude; She dwells among the nations, She finds no rest; All her persecutors overtake her in dire straits.	ユダは悩みのゆえに、また激しい苦役のゆえに、のがれて行って、もろもろの国民のうちに住んでいるが、安息を得ず、これを追う者がみな追いついてみると、悩みのうちにあった。
1	4 The roads to Zion mourn Because no one comes to the set feasts. All her gates are desolate; Her priests sigh, Her virgins are afflicted, And she is in bitterness.	シオンの道は祭に上ってくる者のないために悲しみ、その門はことごとく荒れ、その祭司たちは嘆き、そのおとめたちは引かれて行き、シオンはみずからいたく苦しむ。
1	5 Her adversaries have become the master, Her enemies prosper; For the Lord has afflicted her Because of the multitude of her transgressions. Her children have gone into captivity before the enemy.	そのあだはかしらとなり、その敵は栄えている。そのとがが多いので、主がこれを悩まされたからである。その幼な子たちは捕われて、あだの前に行った。
1	6 And from the daughter of Zion All her splendor has departed. Her princes have become like deer That find no pasture, That flee without strength Before the pursuer.	シオンの娘の栄華はことごとく彼女を離れ去り、その君たちは牧草を得ない、しかのようになり、自分を追う者の前に力なく逃げ去った。
1	7 In the days of her affliction and roaming, Jerusalem remembers all her pleasant things That she had in the days of old. When her people fell into the hand of the enemy, With no one to help her, The adversaries saw her And mocked at her downfall.	エルサレムはその悩みと苦しみの日に、昔から持っていたもろもろの宝を思い出す。その民があだの手に陥り、だれもこれを助ける者のない時、あだはこれを見て、その滅びをあざ笑った。
1	8 Jerusalem has sinned gravely, Therefore she has become vile. All who honored her despise her Because they have seen her nakedness; Yes, she sighs and turns away.	エルサレムは、はなはだしく罪を犯したので、汚れたものとなった。これを尊んだ者も皆その裸を見たので、これを卑しめる。これもまたみずから嘆き、顔をそむける。
1	9 Her uncleanness is in her skirts; She did not consider her destiny; Therefore her collapse was awesome; She had no comforter. "O Lord, behold my affliction, For the enemy is exalted!"	その汚れはその衣のすそにあり、これはその終りを思わなかった。それゆえ、これは驚くばかりに落ちぶれ、これを慰める者はひとりもない。「主よ、わが悩みを顧みてください、敵は勝ち誇っていますから」。

1	12 "Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by? Behold and see If there is any sorrow like my sorrow, Which has been brought on me, Which the Lord has inflicted In the day of His fierce anger.	「すべて道行く人よ、あなたがたはなんとも思わないのか。主がその激しい怒りの日にわたしを悩まして、わたしにくだされた苦しみのような苦しみが、また世にあるだろうか、尋ねて見よ。
1	13 "From above He has sent fire into my bones, And it overpowered them; He has spread a net for my feet And turned me back; He has made me desolate And faint all the day.	主は上から火を送り、それをわが骨にくだし、網を張ってわが足を捕え、わたしを引き返させ、ひねもす心わびしく、かつ病み衰えさせられた。
1	14 "The yoke of my transgressions was bound; They were woven together by His hands, And thrust upon my neck. He made my strength fail; The Lord delivered me into the hands of those whom I am not able to withstand.	わたしのとがは、つかねられて、一つのくびきとせられ、主のみ手により固く締められて、わたしの首におかれ、わたしの力を衰えさせられた。主はわたしを、立ちむかい得ざる者の手に渡された。
1	15 "The Lord has trampled underfoot all my mighty men in my midst; He has called an assembly against me To crush my young men; The Lord trampled as in a winepress The virgin daughter of Judah.	主はわたしのうちにあるすべての勇士を無視し、聖会を召集して、わたしを攻め、わが若き人々を打ち滅ぼされた。主は酒ぶねを踏むように、ユダの娘なるおとめを踏みつけられた。
1	16 "For these things I weep; My eye, my eye overflows with water; Because the comforter, who should restore my life, Is far from me. My children are desolate Because the enemy prevailed."	このために、わたしは泣き悲しみ、わたしの目は涙であふれる。わたしを慰める者、わたしを勇気づける者が／わたしから遠く離れたからである。わが子らは敵が勝ったために、わびしい者となった」。
1	17 Zion spreads out her hands, But no one comforts her; The Lord has commanded concerning Jacob That those around him become his adversaries; Jerusalem has become an unclean thing among them.	シオンは手を伸ばしても、これを慰める者はひとりもない。ヤコブについては、主は命じて、その周囲の者を、これがあだとせられた。エルサレムは彼らの中にあって、汚れた物のようになった。
1	18 "The Lord is righteous, For I rebelled against His commandment. Hear now, all peoples, And behold my sorrow; My virgins and my young men Have gone into captivity.	「主は正しい、わたしは、み言葉にそむいた。すべての民よ、聞け、わが苦しみを顧みよ。わがおとめらも、わが若人らも捕われて行った。
1	19 "I called for my lovers, But they deceived me; My priests and my elders Breathed their last in the city, While they sought food To restore their life.	わたしはわが愛する者を呼んだが、彼らはわたしを欺いた。わが祭司および長老たちは、その命をささえようと、食物を求めている間に、町のうちで息絶えた。
1	20"See, O Lord, that I am in distress; My soul is troubled; My heart is overturned within me, For I have been very rebellious. Outside the sword bereaves, At home it is like death.	主よ、顧みてください、わたしは悩み、わがはらわたはわきかえり、わが心臓はわたしの内に転倒しています。わたしは、はなはだしくそむいたからです。外にはつるぎがあって、わが子を奪い、家の内には死のようなものがある。
1	21 "They have heard that I sigh, But no one comforts me. All my enemies have heard of my trouble; They are glad that You have done it. Bring on the day You have announced, That they may become like me.	わたしがどんなに嘆くかを聞いてください。わたしを慰める者はひとりもなく、敵はみなわたしの悩みを聞いて、あなたがこれをなされたのを喜んだ。あなたがさきに告げ知らせたその日をきたらせ、彼らをも、わたしのようにしてください。
1	22 "Let all their wickedness come before You, And do to them as You have done to me For all my transgressions; For my sighs are many, And my heart is faint."	彼らの悪をことごとくあなたの前にあらわし、さきにわがもろもろのとがのために、わたしに行われたように、彼らにも行ってください。わが嘆きは多く、わが心は弱りはてているからです」。

2	1 How the Lord has covered the daughter of Zion With a cloud in His anger! He cast down from heaven to the earth The beauty of Israel, And did not remember His footstool In the day of His anger.	ああ、主は怒りを起し、黒雲をもってシオンの娘をおおわれた。主はイスラエルの栄光を天から地に投げ落し、その怒りの日に、おのれの足台を心にとめられなかった。
2	2 The Lord has swallowed up and has not pitied All the dwelling places of Jacob. He has thrown down in His wrath The strongholds of the daughter of Judah; He has brought them down to the ground; He has profaned the kingdom and its princes.	主はヤコブのすべてのすまいを／滅ぼして、あわれまず、その怒りによって、ユダの娘のとりでをこわし、これを地に倒して、その国とそのつかさたちをはずかしめられた。
2	3 He has cut off in fierce anger Every horn of Israel; He has drawn back His right hand From before the enemy. He has blazed against Jacob like a flaming fire Devouring all around.	主は激しい怒りをもって、イスラエルのすべての力を断ち、敵の前で、おのれの右の手を引きもどし、周囲を焼きつくす燃える火のように、ヤコブを焼かれた。
2	4Standing like an enemy, He has bent His bow; With His right hand, like an adversary, He has slain all who were pleasing to His eye; On the tent of the daughter of Zion, He has poured out His fury like fire.	主は敵のように弓を張り、あだのように右の手を伸べて立ち、シオンの娘の天幕におるわれわれの目に誇る者を、ことごとく殺し、火のようにその怒りを注がれた。
2	5 The Lord was like an enemy. He has swallowed up Israel, He has swallowed up all her palaces; He has destroyed her strongholds, And has increased mourning and lamentation In the daughter of Judah.	主は敵のようになって、イスラエルを滅ぼし、そのすべての宮殿を滅ぼし、そのとりでをこわし、ユダの娘の上に憂いと悲しみとを増し加えられた。
2	6 He has done violence to His tabernacle, As if it were a garden; He has destroyed His place of assembly; The Lord has caused The appointed feasts and Sabbaths to be forgotten in Zion. In His burning indignation He has spurned the king and the priest.	主は園の小屋のようにおのれの幕屋を倒し、その祭の場所をこわされた。主は祭と安息日とをシオンに忘れさせ、激しい怒りによって、王と祭司とを捨てられた。
2	7 The Lord has spurned His altar, He has abandoned His sanctuary; He has given up the walls of her palaces Into the hand of the enemy. They have made a noise in the house of the Lord As on the day of a set feast.	主はその祭壇を忌み、その聖所をきらって、もろもろの宮殿の石がきを敵の手に渡された。彼らは祭の日のように、主の宮で声をあげた。
2	8 The Lord has purposed to destroy The wall of the daughter of Zion. He has stretched out a line; He has not withdrawn His hand from destroying; Therefore He has caused the rampart and wall to lament; They languished together.	主はシオンの娘の城壁を破壊しようと／思い定めて、なわを張り、打ちこわして、その手をひかず、城壁と石がきとを悲しませられた。これらは共に衰える。
2	9 Her gates have sunk into the ground; He has destroyed and broken her bars. Her king and her princes are among the nations; The Law is no more, And her prophets find no vision from the Lord.	その門は地にうずもれ、主はその貫の木をこわし砕かれた。その王と君たちはもろもろの国民の中におり、もはや律法はなく、またその預言者は主から幻を得ない。
2	10 The elders of the daughter of Zion Sit on the ground and keep silence; They throw dust on their heads And gird themselves with sackcloth. The virgins of Jerusalem Bow their heads to the ground.	シオンの娘の長老たちは地に座して黙し、頭にちりをかぶり、身に荒布をまとった。エルサレムのおとめたちはこうべを地にたれた。
2	11My eyes fail with tears, My heart is troubled; My bile is poured on the ground Because of the destruction of the daughter of my people, Because the children and the infants Faint in the streets of the city.	わが目は涙のためにつぶれ、わがはらわたはわきかえり、わが肝はわが民の娘の滅びのために、地に注ぎ出される。幼な子や乳のみ子が町のちまたに／息も絶えようとしているからである。
2	12They say to their mothers, "Where is grain and wine?" As they swoon like the wounded In the streets of the city, As their life is poured out In their mothers' bosom.	彼らが、傷ついた者のように町のちまたで／息も絶えようとするとき、その母のふところにその命を注ぎ出そうとするとき、母にむかって、「パンとぶどう酒とは／どこにありますか」と叫ぶ。
2	13 How shall I console you? To what shall I liken you, O daughter of Jerusalem? What shall I compare with you, that I may comfort you, O virgin daughter of Zion? For your ruin is spread wide as the sea; Who can heal you?	エルサレムの娘よ、わたしは何をあなたに言い、何にあなたを比べることができようか。シオンの娘なるおとめよ、わたしは何をもってあなたになぞらえて、あなたを慰めることができようか。あなたの破れは海のように大きい、だれがあなたをいやすことができようか。
2	14 Your prophets have seen for you False and deceptive visions; They have not uncovered your iniquity, To bring back your captives, But have envisioned for you false prophecies and delusions.	あなたの預言者たちはあなたのために／人を欺く偽りの幻を見た。彼らはあなたの不義をあらわして／捕われを免れさせようとはせず、あなたのために人を迷わす偽りの託宣を見た。
2	15 All who pass by clap their hands at you; They hiss and shake their heads At the daughter of Jerusalem: "Is this the city that is called 'The perfection of beauty, The joy of the whole earth'?"	すべて道行く人は、あなたにむかって手を打ち、エルサレムの娘にむかって、あざ笑い、かつ頭を振って言う、「麗しさのきわみ、全地の喜びと／となえられた町はこれなのか」と。
2	16 All your enemies have opened their mouth against you; They hiss and gnash their teeth. They say, "We have swallowed her up! Surely this is the day we have waited for; We have found it, we have seen it!"	あなたのもろもろの敵は、あなたをののしり、あざ笑い、歯がみして言う、「われわれはこれを滅ぼした、ああ、これはわれわれが望んだ日だ、今われわれはこれにあい、これを見た」と。
2	17 The Lord has done what He purposed; He has fulfilled His word Which He commanded in days of old. He has thrown down and has not pitied, And He has caused an enemy to rejoice over you; He has exalted the horn of your adversaries.	主はその計画されたことを行い、警告されたことをなし遂げ、いにしえから命じておかれたように、滅ぼして、あわれむことをせず、あなたについて敵を喜ばせ、あなたのあだの力を高められた。
2	18 Their heart cried out to the Lord, "O wall of the daughter of Zion, Let tears run down like a river day and night; Give yourself no relief; Give your eyes no rest.	シオンの娘よ、声高らかに主に呼ばわれ、夜も昼も川のように涙を流せ。みずから安んじることをせず、あなたのひとみを休ませるな。
2	19"Arise, cry out in the night, At the beginning of the watches; Pour out your heart like water before the face of the Lord. Lift your hands toward Him For the life of your young children, Who faint from hunger at the head of every street."	夜、初更に起きて叫べ。主の前にあなたの心を水のように注ぎ出せ。町のかどで、飢えて／息も絶えようとする幼な子の命のために、主にむかって両手をあげよ。
2	20 "See, O Lord, and consider! To whom have You done this? Should the women eat their offspring, The children they have cuddled? Should the priest and prophet be slain In the sanctuary of the Lord?	主よ、みそなわして、顧みてください。あなたはだれにむかって／このように行われたのですか。女は自分の産んだ子、その大事に育てた幼な子を食べるでしょうか。祭司と預言者が主の聖所で殺されていいでしょうか。
2	21 "Young and old lie On the ground in the streets; My virgins and my young men Have fallen by the sword; You have slain them in the day of Your anger, You have slaughtered and not pitied.	老いも若きも、ちまたのちりに伏し、わがおとめも、若人も、つるぎで倒されてしまった。あなたは、その怒りの日にこれを殺し、これをほふって、あわれむことをされなかった。
2	22 "You have invited as to a feast day The terrors that surround me. In the day of the Lord's anger There was no refugee or survivor. Those whom I have borne and brought up My enemies have destroyed."	あなたは、わたしの恐れるものを、祭の日のように四方から呼び集められた。主の怒りの日には、のがれた者も残った者もなかった。わたしが、いだき育てた者を／わたしの敵は滅ぼし尽した。

3	1 I am the man who has seen affliction by the rod of His wrath.	わたしは彼の怒りのむちによって、悩みにあった人である。
3	2He has led me and made me walk In darkness and not in light.	彼はわたしをかり立てて、光のない暗い中を歩かせ、
3	3Surely He has turned His hand against me Time and time again throughout the day.	まことにその手をしばしばかえて、ひねもすわたしを攻められた。
3	4 He has aged my flesh and my skin, And broken my bones.	彼はわが肉と皮を衰えさせ、わが骨を砕き、
3	5 He has besieged me And surrounded me with bitterness and woe.	苦しみと悩みをもって、わたしを囲み、わたしを閉じこめ、

3	9 He has blocked my ways with hewn stone; He has made my paths crooked.	切り石をもって、わたしの行く道をふさぎ、わたしの道筋を曲げられた。
3	10 He has been to me a bear lying in wait, Like a lion in ambush.	彼はわたしに対して待ち伏せするくまのように、潜み隠れるししのように、
3	11 He has turned aside my ways and torn me in pieces; He has made me desolate.	わが道を離れさせ、わたしを引き裂いて、見るかげもないみじめな者とし、
3	12 He has bent His bow And set me up as a target for the arrow.	その弓を張って、わたしを矢の的のようにされた。
3	13 He has caused the arrows of His quiver To pierce my loins.	彼はその箙の矢を／わたしの心臓に打ち込まれた。
3	14 I have become the ridicule of all my people-- Their taunting song all the day.	わたしはすべての民の物笑いとなり、ひねもす彼らの歌となった。
3	15 He has filled me with bitterness, He has made me drink wormwood.	彼はわたしを苦い物で飽かせ、にがよもぎをわたしに飲ませられた。
3	16 He has also broken my teeth with gravel, And covered me with ashes.	彼は小石をもって、わたしの歯を砕き、灰の中にわたしをころがされた。
3	17 You have moved my soul far from peace; I have forgotten prosperity.	わが魂は平和を失い、わたしは幸福を忘れた。
3	18 And I said, "My strength and my hope Have perished from the Lord."	そこでわたしは言った、「わが栄えはうせ去り、わたしが主に望むところのものもうせ去った」と。
3	19 Remember my affliction and roaming, The wormwood and the gall.	どうか、わが悩みと苦しみ、にがよもぎと胆汁とを心に留めてください。
3	20 My soul still remembers And sinks within me.	わが魂は絶えずこれを思って、わがうちにうなだれる。
3	21 This I recall to my mind, Therefore I have hope.	しかし、わたしはこの事を心に思い起す。それゆえ、わたしは望みをいだく。
3	22 Through the Lord's mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not.	主のいつくしみは絶えることがなく、そのあわれみは尽きることがない。
3	23 They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.	これは朝ごとに新しく、あなたの真実は大きい。
3	24 "The Lord is my portion," says my soul, "Therefore I hope in Him!"	わが魂は言う、「主はわたしの受くべき分である、それゆえ、わたしは彼を待ち望む」と。
3	25 The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, To the soul who seeks Him.	主はおのれを待ち望む者と、おのれを尋ね求める者にむかって恵みふかい。
3	26 It is good that one should hope and wait quietly For the salvation of the Lord.	主の救を静かに待ち望むことは、良いことである。
3	27 It is good for a man to bear The yoke in his youth.	人が若い時にくびきを負うことは、良いことである。
3	28 Let him sit alone and keep silent, Because God has laid it on him;	主がこれを負わせられるとき、ひとりすわって黙しているがよい。
3	29 Let him put his mouth in the dust-- There may yet be hope.	口をちりにつけよ、あるいはなお望みがあるであろう。
3	30 Let him give his cheek to the one who strikes him, And be full of reproach.	おのれを撃つ者にほおを向け、満ち足りるまでに、はずかしめを受けよ。
3	31 For the Lord will not cast off forever.	主はとこしえにこのような人を／捨てられないからである。
3	32 Though He causes grief, Yet He will show compassion According to the multitude of His mercies.	彼は悩みを与えられるが、そのいつくしみが豊かなので、またあわれみをたれられる。
3	33 For He does not afflict willingly, Nor grieve the children of men.	彼は心から人の子を／苦しめ悩ますことをされないからである。
3	34 To crush under one's feet All the prisoners of the earth,	地のすべての捕われ人を足の下に踏みにじり、
3	35 To turn aside the justice due a man Before the face of the Most High,	いと高き者の前に人の公義をまげ、
3	36 Or subvert a man in his cause-- The Lord does not approve.	人の訴えをくつがえすことは、主のよみせられないことである。
3	37 Who is he who speaks and it comes to pass, When the Lord has not commanded it?	主が命じられたのでなければ、だれが命じて、その事の成ったことがあるか。
3	38 Is it not from the mouth of the Most High That woe and well-being proceed?	災もさいわいも、いと高き者の口から出るではないか。
3	39 Why should a living man complain, A man for the punishment of his sins?	生ける人はどうしてつぶやかねばならないのか、人は自分の罪の罰せられるのを、つぶやくことができようか。
3	40 Let us search out and examine our ways, And turn back to the Lord;	われわれは、自分の行いを調べ、かつ省みて、主に帰ろう。
3	41 Let us lift our hearts and hands To God in heaven.	われわれは天にいます神にむかって、手と共に心をもあげよう。
3	42 We have transgressed and rebelled; You have not pardoned.	「わたしたちは罪を犯し、そむきました、あなたはおゆるしになりませんでした。
3	43 You have covered Yourself with anger And pursued us; You have slain and not pitied.	あなたは怒りをもってご自分をおおい、わたしたちを追い攻め、殺して、あわれまず、
3	44 You have covered Yourself with a cloud, That prayer should not pass through.	また雲をもってご自分をおおい、祈を通じないようにし、
3	45 You have made us an offscouring and refuse In the midst of the peoples.	もろもろの民の中に、わたしたちをちりあくたとなさいました。
3	46 All our enemies Have opened their mouths against us.	敵はみなわたしたちをののしり、
3	47 Fear and a snare have come upon us, Desolation and destruction.	恐れと落し穴と、荒廃と滅亡とが、わたしたちに臨みました。
3	48 My eyes overflow with rivers of water For the destruction of the daughter of my people.	わが民の娘の滅びによって、わたしの目には涙の川が流れています。
3	49My eyes flow and do not cease, Without interruption,	わが目は絶えず涙を注ぎ出して、やむことなく、
3	50 Till the Lord from heaven Looks down and sees.	主が天から見おろして、顧みられる時にまで及ぶでしょう。
3	51 My eyes bring suffering to my soul Because of all the daughters of my city.	わが目はわが町のすべての娘の最期のゆえに、わたしを痛ませます。
3	52 My enemies without cause Hunted me down like a bird.	ゆえなくわたしに敵する者どもによって、わたしは鳥のように追われました。
3	53 They silenced my life in the pit And threw stones at me.	彼らは生きているわたしを穴の中に投げ入れ、わたしの上に石を投げつけました。
3	54 The waters flowed over my head; I said, "I am cut off!"	水はわたしの頭の上にあふれ、わたしは『断ち滅ぼされた』と言いました。
3	55 I called on Your name, O Lord, From the lowest pit.	主よ、わたしは深い穴からみ名を呼びました。
3	56 You have heard my voice: "Do not hide Your ear From my sighing, from my cry for help."	あなたはわが声を聞かれました、『わが嘆きと叫びに耳をふさがないでください』。
3	57 You drew near on the day I called on You, And said, "Do not fear!"	わたしがあなたに呼ばわったとき、あなたは近寄って、『恐れるな』と言われました。
3	58 O Lord, You have pleaded the case for my soul; You have redeemed my life.	主よ、あなたはわが訴えを取りあげて、わたしの命をあがなわれました。
3	59 O Lord, You have seen how I am wronged; Judge my case.	主よ、あなたはわたしがこうむった不義を／ごらんになりました。わたしの訴えをおさばきください。
3	60 You have seen all their vengeance, All their schemes against me.	あなたはわたしに対する彼らの報復と、陰謀とを、ことごとくごらんになりました。
3	61 You have heard their reproach, O Lord, All their schemes against me,	主よ、あなたはわたしに対する彼らのそしりと、陰謀とを、ことごとく聞かれました。
3	62 The lips of my enemies And their whispering against me all the day.	立ってわたしに逆らう者どものくちびると、その思いは、ひねもすわたしを攻めています。
3	63 Look at their sitting down and their rising up; I am their taunting song.	どうか、彼らのすわるをも、立つをも、みそなわしてください。わたしは彼らの歌となっています。
3	64 Repay them, O Lord, According to the work of their hands.	主よ、彼らの手のわざにしたがって、彼らに報い、
3	65 Give them a veiled heart; Your curse be upon them!	彼らの心をかたくなにし、あなたののろいを彼らに注いでください。
3	66 In Your anger, Pursue and destroy them From under the heavens of the Lord.	主よ、怒りをもって彼らを追い、天が下から彼らを滅ぼしてください」。

4	1 How the gold has become dim! How changed the fine gold! The stones of the sanctuary are scattered At the head of every street.	ああ、黄金は光を失い、純金は色を変じ、聖所の石は／すべてのちまたのかどに投げ捨てられた。
4	2The precious sons of Zion, Valuable as fine gold, How they are regarded as clay pots, The work of the hands of the potter!	ああ、精金にも比すべきシオンのいとし子らは、陶器師の手のわざである土の器のようにみなされる。
4	3 Even the jackals present their breasts To nurse their young; But the daughter of my people is cruel, Like ostriches in the wilderness.	山犬さえも乳ぶさをたれて、その子に乳を飲ませる。ところが、わが民の娘は、荒野のだちょうのように無慈悲になった。
4	4 The tongue of the infant clings To the roof of its mouth for thirst; The young children ask for bread, But no one breaks it for them.	乳のみ子の舌はかわいて、上あごに、ひたとつき、幼な子らはパンを求めても、これに与える者がない。
4	5 Those who ate delicacies Are desolate in the streets; Those who were brought up in scarlet Embrace ash heaps.	うまい物を食べていた者は、落ちぶれて、ちまたにおり、紫の着物で育てられた者も、今は灰だまりの上に伏している。
4	6 The punishment of the iniquity of the daughter of my people Is greater than the punishment of the sin of Sodom, Which was overthrown in a moment, With no hand to help her!	わが民の娘のうけた懲らしめは、ソドムの罰よりも大きかった。ソドムは昔、人の手によらないで、またたくまに滅ぼされたのだ。
4	7 Her Nazirites were brighter than snow And whiter than milk; They were more ruddy in body than rubies, Like sapphire in their appearance.	わが民の君たちは雪よりも清らかに、乳よりも白く、そのからだは、さんごよりも赤く、その姿の美しさはサファイヤのようであった。
4	8 Now their appearance is blacker than soot; They go unrecognized in the streets; Their skin clings to their bones, It has become as dry as wood.	今はその顔はすすよりも黒く、町の中にいても人に知られず、その皮膚は縮んで骨につき、かわいて枯れ木のようになった。
4	9Those slain by the sword are better off Than those who die of hunger; For these pine away, Stricken for lack of the fruits of the field.	つるぎで殺される者は、飢えて死ぬ者よりもさいわいである。彼らは田畑の産物の欠乏によって、刺された者のように衰え行くからである。
4	10 The hands of the compassionate women Have cooked their own children; They became food for them In the destruction of the daughter of my people.	わが民の娘の滅びる時には／情深い女たちさえも、手ずから自分の子どもを煮て、それを食物とした。
4	11 The Lord has fulfilled His fury, He has poured out His fierce anger. He kindled a fire in Zion, And it has devoured its foundations.	主はその憤りをことごとく漏らし、激しい怒りをそそぎ、シオンに火を燃やして、その礎までも焼き払われた。
4	12 The kings of the earth, And all inhabitants of the world, Would not have believed That the adversary and the enemy Could enter the gates of Jerusalem--	地の王たちも、世の民らもみな、エルサレムの門に、あだや敵が、討ち入ろうとは信じなかった。
4	13 Because of the sins of her prophets And the iniquities of her priests, Who shed in her midst The blood of the just.	これはその預言者たちの罪のため、その祭司たちの不義のためであった。彼らは義人の血をその町の中に流した者である。
4	14 They wandered blind in the streets; They have defiled themselves with blood, So that no one would touch their garments.	彼らは盲人のように、ちまたにさまよい、血で汚れている。だれもその衣にさわることができない。
4	15 They cried out to them, "Go away, unclean! Go away, go away, Do not touch us!" When they fled and wandered, Those among the nations said, "They shall no longer dwell here."	人々は彼らにむかって、「去れよ、けがらわしい」、「去れよ、去れよ、さわるな」と叫んだので、彼らは逃げ去って放浪者となったが、異邦人の中でも人々は「もうわれわれのうちに／宿ってはならない」と言った。
4	16 The face of the Lord scattered them; He no longer regards them. The people do not respect the priests Nor show favor to the elders.	主はみずから彼らを散らして、再び彼らを顧みず、祭司を尊ばず、長老をいたわられなかった。
4	17 Still our eyes failed us, Watching vainly for our help; In our watching we watched For a nation that could not save us.	われわれの目は、むなしく助けを待ち望んで／疲れ衰えた。われわれは待ち望んだが、救を与え得ない国びとを待ち望んだ。
4	18 They tracked our steps So that we could not walk in our streets. Our end was near; Our days were over, For our end had come.	人々がわれわれの歩みをうかがうので、われわれは自分の町の中をも、歩くことができなかった。われわれの終りは近づいた、日は尽きた。われわれの終りが来たからである。
4	19 Our pursuers were swifter Than the eagles of the heavens. They pursued us on the mountains And lay in wait for us in the wilderness.	われわれを追う者は空のはげたかよりも速く、彼らは山でわれわれを追い立て、野でわれわれを待ち伏せる。
4	20 The breath of our nostrils, the anointed of the Lord, Was caught in their pits, Of whom we said, "Under his shadow We shall live among the nations."	われわれが鼻の息とたのんだ者、主に油そそがれた者は、彼らの落し穴で捕えられた。彼はわれわれが「異邦人の中でも／その陰に生きるであろう」と思った者である。
4	21 Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, You who dwell in the land of Uz! The cup shall also pass over to you And you shall become drunk and make yourself naked.	ウズの地に住むエドムの娘よ、喜び楽しめ、あなたにもまた杯がめぐって行く、あなたも酔って裸になる。
4	22 The punishment of your iniquity is accomplished, O daughter of Zion; He will no longer send you into captivity. He will punish your iniquity, O daughter of Edom; He will uncover your sins!	シオンの娘よ、あなたの不義の罰は終った。主は重ねてあなたを捕え移されない。エドムの娘よ、主はあなたの不義を罰し、あなたの罪をあらわされる。

5	1 Remember, O Lord, what has come upon us; Look, and behold our reproach!	主よ、われわれに臨んだ事を／覚えてください。われわれのはずかしめを顧みてください。
5	2 Our inheritance has been turned over to aliens, And our houses to foreigners.	われわれの嗣業は他国の人に移り、家は異邦人のものとなった。
5	3 We have become orphans and waifs, Our mothers are like widows.	われわれはみなしごとなって父はなく、母はやもめにひとしい。
5	4 We pay for the water we drink, And our wood comes at a price.	われわれは金を出して水を飲み、価を払って、たきぎを獲なければならない。
5	5 They pursue at our heels; We labor and have no rest.	われわれは首にくびきをかけられて追い使われ、疲れても休むことができない。
5	6 We have given our hand to the Egyptians And the Assyrians, to be satisfied with bread.	われわれは足りるだけの食物を獲るために、エジプトおよびアッスリヤに手をさし伸べた。
5	7 Our fathers sinned and are no more, But we bear their iniquities.	われわれの先祖は罪を犯して、すでに世になく、われわれはその不義の責めを負っている。
5	8 Servants rule over us; There is none to deliver us from their hand.	奴隷であった者がわれわれを治めるが、われわれをその手から救い出す者がない。
5	9 We get our bread at the risk of our lives, Because of the sword in the wilderness.	われわれは荒野のつるぎのゆえに、おのが命をかけて食物を獲る。
5	10 Our skin is hot as an oven, Because of the fever of famine.	われわれの皮膚は飢餓の激しい熱のために、炉のように熱い。
5	11 They ravished the women in Zion, The maidens in the cities of Judah.	女たちはシオンで犯され、おとめたちはユダの町々で汚された。
5	12 Princes were hung up by their hands, And elders were not respected.	君たる者も彼らの手でつるされ、長老たちも尊ばれず、
5	13 Young men ground at the millstones; Boys staggered under loads of wood.	若者たちは、ひきうすをになわせられ、わらべたちは、たきぎを負って、よろめき、
5	14 The elders have ceased gathering at the gate, And the young men from their music.	長老たちは門に集まることをやめ、若者たちはその音楽を廃した。
5	15 The joy of our heart has ceased; Our dance has turned into mourning.	われわれの心の喜びはやみ、踊りは悲しみに変り、
5	16 The crown has fallen from our head. Woe to us, for we have sinned!	われわれの冠はこうべから落ちた。わざわいなるかな、われわれは罪を犯したからである。
5	17 Because of this our heart is faint; Because of these things our eyes grow dim;	このために、われわれの心は衰え、これらの事のために、われわれの目はくらくなった。
5	18 Because of Mount Zion which is desolate, With foxes walking about on it.	シオンの山は荒れはて、山犬がその上を歩いているからである。
5	19 You, O Lord, remain forever; Your throne from generation to generation.	しかし主よ、あなたはとこしえに統べ治められる。あなたの、み位は世々絶えることがない。
5	20 Why do You forget us forever, And forsake us for so long a time?	なぜ、あなたはわれわれをながく忘れ、われわれを久しく捨ておかれるのですか。
5	21 Turn us back to You, O Lord, and we will be restored; Renew our days as of old,	主よ、あなたに帰らせてください、われわれは帰ります。われわれの日を新たにして、いにしえの日のようにしてください。
5	22Unless You have utterly rejected us, And are very angry with us!	あなたは全くわれわれを捨てられたのですか、はなはだしく怒っていられるのですか。
