ヨブ記 Job 1 1
1 1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil. ウヅの地にヨブという名の人があった。そのひととなりは全く、かつ正しく、神を恐れ、悪に遠ざかった。
1 2 And seven sons and three daughters were born to him. 彼に男の子七人と女の子三人があり、
1 3 Also, his possessions were seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and a very large household, so that this man was the greatest of all the people of the East. その家畜は羊七千頭、らくだ三千頭、牛五百くびき、雌ろば五百頭で、しもべも非常に多く、この人は東の人々のうちで最も大いなる者であった。
1 4 And his sons would go and feast in their houses, each on his appointed day, and would send and invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them. そのむすこたちは、めいめい自分の日に、自分の家でふるまいを設け、その三人の姉妹をも招いて一緒に食い飲みするのを常とした。
1 5 So it was, when the days of feasting had run their course, that Job would send and sanctify them, and he would rise early in the morning and offer burnt offerings according to the number of them all. For Job said, "It may be that my sons have sinned and cursed God in their hearts." Thus Job did regularly. そのふるまいの日がひとめぐり終るごとに、ヨブは彼らを呼び寄せて聖別し、朝早く起きて、彼らすべての数にしたがって燔祭をささげた。これはヨブが「わたしのむすこたちは、ことによったら罪を犯し、その心に神をのろったかもしれない」と思ったからである。ヨブはいつも、このように行った。
1 6Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them. ある日、神の子たちが来て、主の前に立った。サタンも来てその中にいた。
1 7 And the Lord said to Satan, "From where do you come?" So Satan answered the Lord and said, "From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it." 主は言われた、「あなたはどこから来たか」。サタンは主に答えて言った、「地を行きめぐり、あちらこちら歩いてきました」。
1 8 Then the Lord said to Satan, "Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?" 主はサタンに言われた、「あなたはわたしのしもべヨブのように全く、かつ正しく、神を恐れ、悪に遠ざかる者の世にないことを気づいたか」。
1 9 So Satan answered the Lord and said, "Does Job fear God for nothing? サタンは主に答えて言った、「ヨブはいたずらに神を恐れましょうか。
1 10 Have You not made a hedge around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. あなたは彼とその家およびすべての所有物のまわりにくまなく、まがきを設けられたではありませんか。あなたは彼の勤労を祝福されたので、その家畜は地にふえたのです。
1 11 But now, stretch out Your hand and touch all that he has, and he will surely curse You to Your face!" しかし今あなたの手を伸べて、彼のすべての所有物を撃ってごらんなさい。彼は必ずあなたの顔に向かって、あなたをのろうでしょう」。
1 12 And the Lord said to Satan, "Behold, all that he has is in your power; only do not lay a hand on his person." So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord. 主はサタンに言われた、「見よ、彼のすべての所有物をあなたの手にまかせる。ただ彼の身に手をつけてはならない」。サタンは主の前から出て行った。
1 13 Now there was a day when his sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house; ある日ヨブのむすこ、娘たちが第一の兄の家で食事をし、酒を飲んでいたとき、
1 14 and a messenger came to Job and said, "The oxen were plowing and the donkeys feeding beside them, 使者がヨブのもとに来て言った、「牛が耕し、ろばがそのかたわらで草を食っていると、
1 15 when the Sabeans raided them and took them away--indeed they have killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you!" シバびとが襲ってきて、これを奪い、つるぎをもってしもべたちを打ち殺しました。わたしはただひとりのがれて、あなたに告げるために来ました」。
1 16 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, "The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants, and consumed them; and I alone have escaped to tell you!" 彼がなお語っているうちに、またひとりが来て言った、「神の火が天から下って、羊およびしもべたちを焼き滅ぼしました。わたしはただひとりのがれて、あなたに告げるために来ました」。
1 17 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, "The Chaldeans formed three bands, raided the camels and took them away, yes, and killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you!" 彼がなお語っているうちに、またひとりが来て言った、「カルデヤびとが三組に分れて来て、らくだを襲ってこれを奪い、つるぎをもってしもべたちを打ち殺しました。わたしはただひとりのがれて、あなたに告げるために来ました」。
1 18 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, "Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house, 彼がなお語っているうちに、またひとりが来て言った、「あなたのむすこ、娘たちが第一の兄の家で食事をし、酒を飲んでいると、
1 19 and suddenly a great wind came from across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young people, and they are dead; and I alone have escaped to tell you!" 荒野の方から大風が吹いてきて、家の四すみを撃ったので、あの若い人たちの上につぶれ落ちて、皆死にました。わたしはただひとりのがれて、あなたに告げるために来ました」。
1 20 Then Job arose, tore his robe, and shaved his head; and he fell to the ground and worshiped. このときヨブは起き上がり、上着を裂き、頭をそり、地に伏して拝し、
1 21 And he said: "Naked I came from my mother's womb, And naked shall I return there. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; Blessed be the name of the Lord." そして言った、／「わたしは裸で母の胎を出た。また裸でかしこに帰ろう。主が与え、主が取られたのだ。主のみ名はほむべきかな」。
1 22 In all this Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong. すべてこの事においてヨブは罪を犯さず、また神に向かって愚かなことを言わなかった。
ヨブ記 Job 2 2
2 1 Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the Lord. ある日、また神の子たちが来て、主の前に立った。サタンもまたその中に来て、主の前に立った。
2 2 And the Lord said to Satan, "From where do you come?" So Satan answered the Lord and said, "From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it." 主はサタンに言われた、「あなたはどこから来たか」。サタンは主に答えて言った、「地を行きめぐり、あちらこちら歩いてきました」。
2 3 Then the Lord said to Satan, "Have you considered My servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil? And still he holds fast to his integrity, although you incited Me against him, to destroy him without cause." 主はサタンに言われた、「あなたは、わたしのしもべヨブのように全く、かつ正しく、神を恐れ、悪に遠ざかる者の世にないことを気づいたか。あなたは、わたしを勧めて、ゆえなく彼を滅ぼそうとしたが、彼はなお堅く保って、おのれを全うした」。
2 4So Satan answered the Lord and said, "Skin for skin! Yes, all that a man has he will give for his life. サタンは主に答えて言った、「皮には皮をもってします。人は自分の命のために、その持っているすべての物をも与えます。
2 5 But stretch out Your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will surely curse You to Your face!" しかしいま、あなたの手を伸べて、彼の骨と肉とを撃ってごらんなさい。彼は必ずあなたの顔に向かって、あなたをのろうでしょう」。
2 6 And the Lord said to Satan, "Behold, he is in your hand, but spare his life." 主はサタンに言われた、「見よ、彼はあなたの手にある。ただ彼の命を助けよ」。
2 7 So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord, and struck Job with painful boils from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head. サタンは主の前から出て行って、ヨブを撃ち、その足の裏から頭の頂まで、いやな腫物をもって彼を悩ました。
2 8 And he took for himself a potsherd with which to scrape himself while he sat in the midst of the ashes. ヨブは陶器の破片を取り、それで自分の身をかき、灰の中にすわった。
2 9Then his wife said to him, "Do you still hold fast to your integrity? Curse God and die!" 時にその妻は彼に言った、「あなたはなおも堅く保って、自分を全うするのですか。神をのろって死になさい」。
2 10But he said to her, "You speak as one of the foolish women speaks. Shall we indeed accept good from God, and shall we not accept adversity?" In all this Job did not sin with his lips. しかしヨブは彼女に言った、「あなたの語ることは愚かな女の語るのと同じだ。われわれは神から幸をうけるのだから、災をも、うけるべきではないか」。すべてこの事においてヨブはそのくちびるをもって罪を犯さなかった。
2 11 Now when Job's three friends heard of all this adversity that had come upon him, each one came from his own place--Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite. For they had made an appointment together to come and mourn with him, and to comfort him. 時に、ヨブの三人の友がこのすべての災のヨブに臨んだのを聞いて、めいめい自分の所から尋ねて来た。すなわちテマンびとエリパズ、シュヒびとビルダデ、ナアマびとゾパルである。彼らはヨブをいたわり、慰めようとして、たがいに約束してきたのである。
2 12 And when they raised their eyes from afar, and did not recognize him, they lifted their voices and wept; and each one tore his robe and sprinkled dust on his head toward heaven. 彼らは目をあげて遠方から見たが、彼のヨブであることを認めがたいほどであったので、声をあげて泣き、めいめい自分の上着を裂き、天に向かって、ちりをうちあげ、自分たちの頭の上にまき散らした。
2 13 So they sat down with him on the ground seven days and seven nights, and no one spoke a word to him, for they saw that his grief was very great. こうして七日七夜、彼と共に地に座していて、ひと言も彼に話しかける者がなかった。彼の苦しみの非常に大きいのを見たからである。
ヨブ記 Job 3 3
3 1 After this Job opened his mouth and cursed the day of his birth. この後、ヨブは口を開いて、自分の生れた日をのろった。
3 2 And Job spoke, and said: すなわちヨブは言った、
3 3 "May the day perish on which I was born, And the night in which it was said, 'A male child is conceived.' 「わたしの生れた日は滅びうせよ。『男の子が、胎にやどった』と言った夜も／そのようになれ。
3 4 May that day be darkness; May God above not seek it, Nor the light shine upon it. その日は暗くなるように。神が上からこれを顧みられないように。光がこれを照さないように。
3 5 May darkness and the shadow of death claim it; May a cloud settle on it; May the blackness of the day terrify it. やみと暗黒がこれを取りもどすように。雲が、その上にとどまるように。日を暗くする者が、これを脅かすように。
3 6 As for that night, may darkness seize it; May it not rejoice among the days of the year, May it not come into the number of the months. その夜は、暗やみが、これを捕えるように。年の日のうちに加わらないように。月の数にもはいらないように。
3 7 Oh, may that night be barren! May no joyful shout come into it! また、その夜は、はらむことのないように。喜びの声がそのうちに聞かれないように。
3 8 May those curse it who curse the day, Those who are ready to arouse Leviathan. 日をのろう者が、これをのろうように。レビヤタンを奮い起すに巧みな者が、／これをのろうように。
3 9 May the stars of its morning be dark; May it look for light, but have none, And not see the dawning of the day; その明けの星は暗くなるように。光を望んでも、得られないように。また、あけぼののまぶたを見ることのないように。
3 10 Because it did not shut up the doors of my mother's womb, Nor hide sorrow from my eyes. これは、わたしの母の胎の戸を閉じず、／また悩みをわたしの目に隠さなかったからである。
3 11 "Why did I not die at birth? Why did I not perish when I came from the womb? なにゆえ、わたしは胎から出て、死ななかったのか。腹から出たとき息が絶えなかったのか。
3 12 Why did the knees receive me? Or why the breasts, that I should nurse? なにゆえ、ひざが、わたしを受けたのか。なにゆえ、乳ぶさがあって、／わたしはそれを吸ったのか。
3 13For now I would have lain still and been quiet, I would have been asleep; Then I would have been at rest そうしなかったならば、／わたしは伏して休み、眠ったであろう。そうすればわたしは安んじており、
3 14 With kings and counselors of the earth, Who built ruins for themselves, 自分のために荒れ跡を築き直した／地の王たち、参議たち、
3 15 Or with princes who had gold, Who filled their houses with silver; あるいは、こがねを持ち、／しろがねを家に満たした／君たちと一緒にいたであろう。
3 16 Or why was I not hidden like a stillborn child, Like infants who never saw light? なにゆえ、わたしは人知れずおりる胎児のごとく、／光を見ないみどりごのようでなかったのか。
3 17 There the wicked cease from troubling, And there the weary are at rest. かしこでは悪人も、あばれることをやめ、／うみ疲れた者も、休みを得、
3 18 There the prisoners rest together; They do not hear the voice of the oppressor. 捕われ人も共に安らかにおり、／追い使う者の声を聞かない。
3 19 The small and great are there, And the servant is free from his master. 小さい者も大きい者もそこにおり、／奴隷も、その主人から解き放される。
3 20 "Why is light given to him who is in misery, And life to the bitter of soul, なにゆえ、悩む者に光を賜い、／心の苦しむ者に命を賜わったのか。
3 21 Who long for death, but it does not come, And search for it more than hidden treasures; このような人は死を望んでも来ない、／これを求めることは隠れた宝を／掘るよりも、はなはだしい。
3 22 Who rejoice exceedingly, And are glad when they can find the grave? 彼らは墓を見いだすとき、非常に喜び楽しむのだ。
3 23 Why is light given to a man whose way is hidden, And whom God has hedged in? なにゆえ、その道の隠された人に、／神が、まがきをめぐらされた人に、光を賜わるのか。
3 24 For my sighing comes before I eat, And my groanings pour out like water. わたしの嘆きはわが食物に代って来り、／わたしのうめきは水のように流れ出る。
3 25 For the thing I greatly feared has come upon me, And what I dreaded has happened to me. わたしの恐れるものが、わたしに臨み、／わたしの恐れおののくものが、わが身に及ぶ。
3 26 I am not at ease, nor am I quiet; I have no rest, for trouble comes." わたしは安らかでなく、またおだやかでない。わたしは休みを得ない、ただ悩みのみが来る」。
ヨブ記 Job 4 4
4 1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said: その時、テマンびとエリパズが答えて言った、
4 2 "If one attempts a word with you, will you become weary? But who can withhold himself from speaking? 「もし人があなたにむかって意見を述べるならば、／あなたは腹を立てるでしょうか。しかしだれが黙っておれましょう。
4 3 Surely you have instructed many, And you have strengthened weak hands. 見よ、あなたは多くの人を教えさとし、／衰えた手を強くした。
4 4 Your words have upheld him who was stumbling, And you have strengthened the feeble knees; あなたの言葉はつまずく者をたすけ起し、／かよわいひざを強くした。
4 5 But now it comes upon you, and you are weary; It touches you, and you are troubled. ところが今、この事があなたに臨むと、／あなたは耐え得ない。この事があなたに触れると、あなたはおじ惑う。
4 6 Is not your reverence your confidence? And the integrity of your ways your hope? あなたが神を恐れていることは、／あなたのよりどころではないか。あなたの道の全きことは、あなたの望みではないか。
4 7 "Remember now, who ever perished being innocent? Or where were the upright ever cut off? 考えてみよ、だれが罪のないのに、／滅ぼされた者があるか。どこに正しい者で、断ち滅ぼされた者があるか。
4 8 Even as I have seen, Those who plow iniquity And sow trouble reap the same. わたしの見た所によれば、不義を耕し、／害悪をまく者は、それを刈り取っている。
4 9 By the blast of God they perish, And by the breath of His anger they are consumed. 彼らは神のいぶきによって滅び、／その怒りの息によって消えうせる。
4 10 The roaring of the lion, The voice of the fierce lion, And the teeth of the young lions are broken. ししのほえる声、たけきししの声はともにやみ、／若きししのきばは折られ、
4 11 The old lion perishes for lack of prey, And the cubs of the lioness are scattered. 雄じしは獲物を得ずに滅び、／雌じしの子は散らされる。
4 12 "Now a word was secretly brought to me, And my ear received a whisper of it. さて、わたしに、言葉がひそかに臨んだ、／わたしの耳はそのささやきを聞いた。
4 13 In disquieting thoughts from the visions of the night, When deep sleep falls on men, すなわち人の熟睡するころ、／夜の幻によって思い乱れている時、
4 14 Fear came upon me, and trembling, Which made all my bones shake. 恐れがわたしに臨んだので、おののき、／わたしの骨はことごとく震えた。
4 15 Then a spirit passed before my face; The hair on my body stood up. 時に、霊があって、わたしの顔の前を過ぎたので、／わたしの身の毛はよだった。
4 16 It stood still, But I could not discern its appearance. A form was before my eyes; There was silence; Then I heard a voice saying: そのものは立ちどまったが、／わたしはその姿を見わけることができなかった。一つのかたちが、わたしの目の前にあった。わたしは静かな声を聞いた、
4 17 'Can a mortal be more righteous than God? Can a man be more pure than his Maker? 『人は神の前に正しくありえようか。人はその造り主の前に清くありえようか。
4 18 If He puts no trust in His servants, If He charges His angels with error, 見よ、彼はそのしもべをさえ頼みとせず、／その天使をも誤れる者とみなされる。
4 19 How much more those who dwell in houses of clay, Whose foundation is in the dust, Who are crushed before a moth? まして、泥の家に住む者、／ちりをその基とする者、／しみのようにつぶされる者。
4 20 They are broken in pieces from morning till evening; They perish forever, with no one regarding. 彼らは朝から夕までの間に打ち砕かれ、／顧みる者もなく、永遠に滅びる。
4 21 Does not their own excellence go away? They die, even without wisdom.' もしその天幕の綱が／彼らのうちに取り去られるなら、／ついに悟ることもなく、死にうせるではないか』。
ヨブ記 Job 5 5
5 1 "Call out now; Is there anyone who will answer you? And to which of the holy ones will you turn? 試みに呼んでみよ、／だれかあなたに答える者があるか。どの聖者にあなたは頼もうとするのか。
5 2 For wrath kills a foolish man, And envy slays a simple one. 確かに、憤りは愚かな者を殺し、／ねたみはあさはかな者を死なせる。
5 3 I have seen the foolish taking root, But suddenly I cursed his dwelling place. わたしは愚かな者の根を張るのを見た、／しかしわたしは、にわかにそのすみかをのろった。
5 4 His sons are far from safety, They are crushed in the gate, And there is no deliverer. その子らは安きを得ず、／町の門でしえたげられても、これを救う者がない。
5 5 Because the hungry eat up his harvest, Taking it even from the thorns, And a snare snatches their substance. その収穫は飢えた人が食べ、／いばらの中からさえ、これを奪う。また、かわいた者はその財産をあえぎ求める。
5 6For affliction does not come from the dust, Nor does trouble spring from the ground; 苦しみは、ちりから起るものでなく、／悩みは土から生じるものでない。
5 7 Yet man is born to trouble, As the sparks fly upward. 人が生れて悩みを受けるのは、／火の子が上に飛ぶにひとしい。
5 8 "But as for me, I would seek God, And to God I would commit my cause-- しかし、わたしであるならば、神に求め、／神に、わたしの事をまかせる。
5 9 Who does great things, and unsearchable, Marvelous things without number. 彼は大いなる事をされるかたで、測り知れない、／その不思議なみわざは数えがたい。
5 10 He gives rain on the earth, And sends waters on the fields. 彼は地に雨を降らせ、野に水を送られる。
5 11 He sets on high those who are lowly, And those who mourn are lifted to safety. 彼は低い者を高くあげ、／悲しむ者を引き上げて、安全にされる。
5 12 He frustrates the devices of the crafty, So that their hands cannot carry out their plans. 彼は悪賢い者の計りごとを敗られる。それで何事もその手になし遂げることはできない。
5 13 He catches the wise in their own craftiness, And the counsel of the cunning comes quickly upon them. 彼は賢い者を、彼ら自身の悪巧みによって捕え、／曲った者の計りごとをくつがえされる。
5 14 They meet with darkness in the daytime, And grope at noontime as in the night. 彼らは昼も、やみに会い、／真昼にも、夜のように手探りする。
5 15 But He saves the needy from the sword, From the mouth of the mighty, And from their hand. 彼は貧しい者を彼らの口のつるぎから救い、／また強い者の手から救われる。
5 16 So the poor have hope, And injustice shuts her mouth. それゆえ乏しい者に望みがあり、／不義はその口を閉じる。
5 17"Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects; Therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty. 見よ、神に戒められる人はさいわいだ。それゆえ全能者の懲らしめを軽んじてはならない。
5 18 For He bruises, but He binds up; He wounds, but His hands make whole. 彼は傷つけ、また包み、／撃ち、またその手をもっていやされる。
5 19 He shall deliver you in six troubles, Yes, in seven no evil shall touch you. 彼はあなたを六つの悩みから救い、／七つのうちでも、災はあなたに触れることがない。
5 20 In famine He shall redeem you from death, And in war from the power of the sword. ききんの時には、あなたをあがなって、／死を免れさせ、／いくさの時には、つるぎの力を免れさせられる。
5 21 You shall be hidden from the scourge of the tongue, And you shall not be afraid of destruction when it comes. あなたは舌をもってむち打たれる時にも、／おおい隠され、／滅びが来る時でも、恐れることはない。
5 22 You shall laugh at destruction and famine, And you shall not be afraid of the beasts of the earth. あなたは滅びと、ききんとを笑い、／地の獣をも恐れることはない。
5 23 For you shall have a covenant with the stones of the field, And the beasts of the field shall be at peace with you. あなたは野の石と契約を結び、／野の獣はあなたと和らぐからである。
5 24 You shall know that your tent is in peace; You shall visit your dwelling and find nothing amiss. あなたは自分の天幕の安全なことを知り、／自分の家畜のおりを見回っても、欠けた物がなく、
5 25 You shall also know that your descendants shall be many, And your offspring like the grass of the earth. また、あなたの子孫の多くなり、／そのすえが地の草のようになるのを知るであろう。
5 26 You shall come to the grave at a full age, As a sheaf of grain ripens in its season. あなたは高齢に達して墓に入る、／あたかも麦束をその季節になって／打ち場に運びあげるようになるであろう。
5 27 Behold, this we have searched out; It is true. Hear it, and know for yourself." 見よ、われわれの尋ねきわめた所はこのとおりだ。あなたはこれを聞いて、みずから知るがよい」。
ヨブ記 Job 6 6
6 1 Then Job answered and said: ヨブは答えて言った、
6 2 "Oh, that my grief were fully weighed, And my calamity laid with it on the scales! 「どうかわたしの憤りが正しく量られ、／同時にわたしの災も、はかりにかけられるように。
6 3 For then it would be heavier than the sand of the sea-- Therefore my words have been rash. そうすれば、これは海の砂よりも重いに相違ない。それゆえ、わたしの言葉が軽率であったのだ。
6 4 For the arrows of the Almighty are within me; My spirit drinks in their poison; The terrors of God are arrayed against me. 全能者の矢が、わたしのうちにあり、／わたしの霊はその毒を飲み、／神の恐るべき軍勢が、わたしを襲い攻めている。
6 5 Does the wild donkey bray when it has grass, Or does the ox low over its fodder? 野ろばは、青草のあるのに鳴くであろうか。牛は飼葉の上でうなるであろうか。
6 6 Can flavorless food be eaten without salt? Or is there any taste in the white of an egg? 味のない物は塩がなくて食べられようか。すべりひゆのしるは味があろうか。
6 7 My soul refuses to touch them; They are as loathsome food to me. わたしの食欲はこれに触れることを拒む。これは、わたしのきらう食物のようだ。
6 8 "Oh, that I might have my request, That God would grant me the thing that I long for! どうかわたしの求めるものが獲られるように。どうか神がわたしの望むものをくださるように。
6 9 That it would please God to crush me, That He would loose His hand and cut me off! どうか神がわたしを打ち滅ぼすことをよしとし、／み手を伸べてわたしを断たれるように。
6 10 Then I would still have comfort; Though in anguish, I would exult, He will not spare; For I have not concealed the words of the Holy One. そうすれば、わたしはなお慰めを得、／激しい苦しみの中にあっても喜ぶであろう。わたしは聖なる者の言葉を／否んだことがないからだ。
6 11 "What strength do I have, that I should hope? And what is my end, that I should prolong my life? わたしにどんな力があって、／なお待たねばならないのか。わたしにどんな終りがあるので、／なお耐え忍ばねばならないのか。
6 12 Is my strength the strength of stones? Or is my flesh bronze? わたしの力は石の力のようであるのか。わたしの肉は青銅のようであるのか。
6 13 Is my help not within me? And is success driven from me? まことに、わたしのうちに助けはなく、／救われる望みは、わたしから追いやられた。
6 14 "To him who is afflicted, kindness should be shown by his friend, Even though he forsakes the fear of the Almighty. その友に対するいつくしみをさし控える者は、／全能者を恐れることをすてる。
6 15 My brothers have dealt deceitfully like a brook, Like the streams of the brooks that pass away, わが兄弟たちは谷川のように、／過ぎ去る出水のように欺く。
6 16 Which are dark because of the ice, And into which the snow vanishes. これは氷のために黒くなり、／そのうちに雪が隠れる。
6 17 When it is warm, they cease to flow; When it is hot, they vanish from their place. これは暖かになると消え去り、／暑くなるとその所からなくなる。
6 18The paths of their way turn aside, They go nowhere and perish. 隊商はその道を転じ、／むなしい所へ行って滅びる。
6 19 The caravans of Tema look, The travelers of Sheba hope for them. テマの隊商はこれを望み、／シバの旅びとはこれを慕う。
6 20 They are disappointed because they were confident; They come there and are confused. 彼らはこれにたよったために失望し、／そこに来てみて、あわてる。
6 21 For now you are nothing, You see terror and are afraid. あなたがたは今わたしにはこのような者となった。あなたがたはわたしの災難を見て恐れた。

6 24 "Teach me, and I will hold my tongue; Cause me to understand wherein I have erred. わたしに教えよ、そうすればわたしは黙るであろう。わたしの誤っている所をわたしに悟らせよ。
6 25 How forceful are right words! But what does your arguing prove? 正しい言葉はいかに力のあるものか。しかしあなたがたの戒めは何を戒めるのか。
6 26 Do you intend to rebuke my words, And the speeches of a desperate one, which are as wind? あなたがたは言葉を戒めうると思うのか。望みの絶えた者の語ることは風のようなものだ。
6 27 Yes, you overwhelm the fatherless, And you undermine your friend. あなたがたは、みなしごのためにくじをひき、／あなたがたの友をさえ売り買いするであろう。
6 28Now therefore, be pleased to look at me; For I would never lie to your face. 今、どうぞわたしを見られよ、／わたしはあなたがたの顔に向かって偽らない。
6 29 Yield now, let there be no injustice! Yes, concede, my righteousness still stands! どうぞ、思いなおせ、まちがってはならない。さらに思いなおせ、／わたしの義は、なおわたしのうちにある。
6 30 Is there injustice on my tongue? Cannot my taste discern the unsavory? わたしの舌に不義があるか。わたしの口は災を／わきまえることができぬであろうか。

7 1 "Is there not a time of hard service for man on earth? Are not his days also like the days of a hired man? 地上の人には、／激しい労務があるではないか。またその日は雇人の日のようではないか。
7 2 Like a servant who earnestly desires the shade, And like a hired man who eagerly looks for his wages, 奴隷が夕暮を慕うように、／雇人がその賃銀を望むように、
7 3 So I have been allotted months of futility, And wearisome nights have been appointed to me. わたしは、むなしい月を持たせられ、／悩みの夜を与えられる。
7 4 When I lie down, I say, 'When shall I arise, And the night be ended?' For I have had my fill of tossing till dawn. わたしは寝るときに言う、『いつ起きるだろうか』と。しかし夜は長く、暁までころびまわる。
7 5 My flesh is caked with worms and dust, My skin is cracked and breaks out afresh. わたしの肉はうじと土くれとをまとい、／わたしの皮は固まっては、またくずれる。
7 6 "My days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle, And are spent without hope. わたしの日は機のひよりも速く、／望みをもたずに消え去る。
7 7 Oh, remember that my life is a breath! My eye will never again see good. 記憶せよ、わたしの命は息にすぎないことを。わたしの目は再び幸を見ることがない。
7 8 The eye of him who sees me will see me no more; While your eyes are upon me, I shall no longer be. わたしを見る者の目は、／かさねてわたしを見ることがなく、／あなたがわたしに目を向けられても、／わたしはいない。
7 9 As the cloud disappears and vanishes away, So he who goes down to the grave does not come up. 雲が消えて、なくなるように、／陰府に下る者は上がって来ることがない。
7 10 He shall never return to his house, Nor shall his place know him anymore. 彼は再びその家に帰らず、／彼の所も、もはや彼を認めない。
7 11 "Therefore I will not restrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul. それゆえ、わたしはわが口をおさえず、／わたしの霊のもだえによって語り、／わたしの魂の苦しさによって嘆く。
7 12 Am I a sea, or a sea serpent, That You set a guard over me? わたしは海であるのか、龍であるのか、／あなたはわたしの上に見張りを置かれる。
7 13 When I say, 'My bed will comfort me, My couch will ease my complaint,' 『わたしの床はわたしを慰め、／わたしの寝床はわが嘆きを軽くする』と／わたしが言うとき、
7 14 Then You scare me with dreams And terrify me with visions, あなたは夢をもってわたしを驚かし、／幻をもってわたしを恐れさせられる。
7 15 So that my soul chooses strangling And death rather than my body. それゆえ、わたしは息の止まることを願い、／わが骨よりもむしろ死を選ぶ。
7 16 I loathe my life; I would not live forever. Let me alone, For my days are but a breath. わたしは命をいとう。わたしは長く生きることを望まない。わたしに構わないでください。わたしの日は息にすぎないのだから。
7 17 "What is man, that You should exalt him, That You should set Your heart on him, 人は何者なので、あなたはこれを大きなものとし、／これにみ心をとめ、
7 18 That You should visit him every morning, And test him every moment? 朝ごとに、これを尋ね、／絶え間なく、これを試みられるのか。
7 19 How long? Will You not look away from me, And let me alone till I swallow my saliva? いつまで、あなたはわたしに目を離さず、／つばをのむまも、わたしを捨てておかれないのか。
7 20 Have I sinned? What have I done to You, O watcher of men? Why have You set me as Your target, So that I am a burden to myself? 人を監視される者よ、わたしが罪を犯したとて、／あなたに何をなしえようか。なにゆえ、わたしをあなたの的とし、／わたしをあなたの重荷とされるのか。
7 21 Why then do You not pardon my transgression, And take away my iniquity? For now I will lie down in the dust, And You will seek me diligently, But I will no longer be." なにゆえ、わたしのとがをゆるさず、／わたしの不義を除かれないのか。わたしはいま土の中に横たわる。あなたがわたしを尋ねられても、／わたしはいないでしょう」。
ヨブ記 Job 8 8
8 1 Then Bildad the Shuhite answered and said: 時にシュヒびとビルダデが答えて言った、
8 2 "How long will you speak these things, And the words of your mouth be like a strong wind? 「いつまであなたは、そのような事を言うのか。あなたの口の言葉は荒い風ではないか。
8 3 Does God subvert judgment? Or does the Almighty pervert justice? 神は公義を曲げられるであろうか。全能者は正義を曲げられるであろうか。
8 4 If your sons have sinned against Him, He has cast them away for their transgression. あなたの子たちが彼に罪を犯したので、／彼らをそのとがの手に渡されたのだ。
8 5 If you would earnestly seek God And make your supplication to the Almighty, あなたがもし神に求め、全能者に祈るならば、
8 6 If you were pure and upright, Surely now He would awake for you, And prosper your rightful dwelling place. あなたがもし清く、正しくあるならば、／彼は必ずあなたのために立って、／あなたの正しいすみかを栄えさせられる。
8 7 Though your beginning was small, Yet your latter end would increase abundantly. あなたの初めは小さくあっても、／あなたの終りは非常に大きくなるであろう。
8 8 "For inquire, please, of the former age, And consider the things discovered by their fathers; 先の代の人に問うてみよ、／先祖たちの尋ねきわめた事を学べ。
8 9 For we were born yesterday, and know nothing, Because our days on earth are a shadow. われわれはただ、きのうからあった者で、／何も知らない、／われわれの世にある日は、影のようなものである。
8 10 Will they not teach you and tell you, And utter words from their heart? 彼らはあなたに教え、あなたに語り、／その悟りから言葉を出さないであろうか。
8 11 "Can the papyrus grow up without a marsh? Can the reeds flourish without water? 紙草は泥のない所に生長することができようか。葦は水のない所におい茂ることができようか。
8 12 While it is yet green and not cut down, It withers before any other plant. これはなお青くて、まだ刈られないのに、／すべての草に先だって枯れる。
8 13 So are the paths of all who forget God; And the hope of the hypocrite shall perish, すべて神を忘れる者の道はこのとおりだ。神を信じない者の望みは滅びる。
8 14 Whose confidence shall be cut off, And whose trust is a spider's web. その頼むところは断たれ、／その寄るところは、くもの巣のようだ。
8 15 He leans on his house, but it does not stand. He holds it fast, but it does not endure. その家によりかかろうとすれば、家は立たず、／それにすがろうとしても、それは耐えない。
8 16 He grows green in the sun, And his branches spread out in his garden. 彼は日の前に青々と茂り、／その若枝を園にはびこらせ、
8 17His roots wrap around the rock heap, And look for a place in the stones. その根を石塚にからませ、／岩の間に生きていても、
8 18 If he is destroyed from his place, Then it will deny him, saying, 'I have not seen you.' もしその所から取り除かれれば、／その所は彼を拒んで言うであろう、／『わたしはあなたを見たことがない』と。
8 19 "Behold, this is the joy of His way, And out of the earth others will grow. 見よ、これこそ彼の道の喜びである、／そしてほかの者が地から生じるであろう。
8 20 Behold, God will not cast away the blameless, Nor will He uphold the evildoers. 見よ、神は全き人を捨てられない。また悪を行う者の手を支持されない。
8 21 He will yet fill your mouth with laughing, And your lips with rejoicing. 彼は笑いをもってあなたの口を満たし、／喜びの声をもってあなたのくちびるを満たされる。
8 22 Those who hate you will be clothed with shame, And the dwelling place of the wicked will come to nothing." あなたを憎む者は恥を着せられ、／悪しき者の天幕はなくなる」。
ヨブ記 Job 9 9
9 1 Then Job answered and said: ヨブは答えて言った、
9 2 "Truly I know it is so, But how can a man be righteous before God? 「まことにわたしは、その事の／そのとおりであることを知っている。しかし人はどうして神の前に正しくありえようか。
9 3 If one wished to contend with Him, He could not answer Him one time out of a thousand. よし彼と争おうとしても、／千に一つも答えることができない。
9 4 God is wise in heart and mighty in strength. Who has hardened himself against Him and prospered? 彼は心賢く、力強くあられる。だれが彼にむかい、おのれをかたくなにして、／栄えた者があるか。
9 5 He removes the mountains, and they do not know When He overturns them in His anger; 彼は、山を移されるが、山は知らない。彼は怒りをもって、これらをくつがえされる。
9 6 He shakes the earth out of its place, And its pillars tremble; 彼が、地を震い動かしてその所を離れさせられると、／その柱はゆらぐ。
9 7 He commands the sun, and it does not rise; He seals off the stars; 彼が日に命じられると、日は出ない。彼はまた星を閉じこめられる。
9 8 He alone spreads out the heavens, And treads on the waves of the sea; 彼はただひとり天を張り、／海の波を踏まれた。
9 9 He made the Bear, Orion, and the Pleiades, And the chambers of the south; 彼は北斗、オリオン、／プレアデスおよび南の密室を造られた。
9 10 He does great things past finding out, Yes, wonders without number. 彼が大いなる事をされることは測りがたく、／不思議な事をされることは数知れない。
9 11 If He goes by me, I do not see Him; If He moves past, I do not perceive Him; 見よ、彼がわたしのかたわらを通られても、／わたしは彼を見ない。彼は進み行かれるが、わたしは彼を認めない。
9 12 If He takes away, who can hinder Him? Who can say to Him, 'What are You doing?' 見よ、彼が奪い去られるのに、／だれが彼をはばむことができるか。だれが彼にむかって『あなたは何をするのか』と／言うことができるか。
9 13 God will not withdraw His anger, The allies of the proud lie prostrate beneath Him. 神はその怒りをやめられない。ラハブを助ける者どもは彼のもとにかがんだ。
9 14 "How then can I answer Him, And choose my words to reason with Him? どうしてわたしは彼に答え、／言葉を選んで、彼と議論することができよう。
9 15 For though I were righteous, I could not answer Him; I would beg mercy of my Judge. たといわたしは正しくても答えることができない。わたしを責められる者に／あわれみを請わなければならない。
9 16 If I called and He answered me, I would not believe that He was listening to my voice. たといわたしが呼ばわり、／彼がわたしに答えられても、／わたしの声に耳を傾けられたとは信じない。
9 17 For He crushes me with a tempest, And multiplies my wounds without cause. 彼は大風をもってわたしを撃ち砕き、／ゆえなく、わたしに多くの傷を負わせ、
9 18 He will not allow me to catch my breath, But fills me with bitterness. わたしに息をつかせず、／苦い物をもってわたしを満たされる。
9 19 If it is a matter of strength, indeed He is strong; And if of justice, who will appoint my day in court? 力の争いであるならば、彼を見よ、／さばきの事であるならば、／だれが彼を呼び出すことができよう。
9 20 Though I were righteous, my own mouth would condemn me; Though I were blameless, it would prove me perverse. たといわたしは正しくても、／わたしの口はわたしを罪ある者とする。たといわたしは罪がなくても、／彼はわたしを曲った者とする。
9 21 "I am blameless, yet I do not know myself; I despise my life. わたしは罪がない、しかしわたしは自分を知らない。わたしは自分の命をいとう。
9 22 It is all one thing; Therefore I say, 'He destroys the blameless and the wicked.' 皆同一である。それゆえ、わたしは言う、／『彼は罪のない者と、悪しき者とを／共に滅ぼされるのだ』と。
9 23 If the scourge slays suddenly, He laughs at the plight of the innocent. 災がにわかに人を殺すような事があると、／彼は罪のない者の苦難をあざ笑われる。
9 24 The earth is given into the hand of the wicked. He covers the faces of its judges. If it is not He, who else could it be? 世は悪人の手に渡されてある。彼はその裁判人の顔をおおわれる。もし彼でなければ、これはだれのしわざか。
9 25 "Now my days are swifter than a runner; They flee away, they see no good. わたしの日は飛脚よりも速く、／飛び去って幸を見ない。
9 26 They pass by like swift ships, Like an eagle swooping on its prey. これは走ること葦舟のごとく、／えじきに襲いかかる、わしのようだ。
9 27 If I say, 'I will forget my complaint, I will put off my sad face and wear a smile,' たといわたしは『わが嘆きを忘れ、／憂い顔をかえて元気よくなろう』と言っても、
9 28 I am afraid of all my sufferings; I know that You will not hold me innocent. わたしはわがもろもろの苦しみを恐れる。あなたがわたしを罪なき者とされないことを／わたしは知っているからだ。
9 29 If I am condemned, Why then do I labor in vain? わたしは罪ある者とされている。どうして、いたずらに労する必要があるか。
9 30 If I wash myself with snow water, And cleanse my hands with soap, たといわたしは雪で身を洗い、／灰汁で手を清めても、
9 31 Yet You will plunge me into the pit, And my own clothes will abhor me. あなたはわたしを、みぞの中に投げ込まれるので、／わたしの着物も、わたしをいとうようになる。
9 32 "For He is not a man, as I am, That I may answer Him, And that we should go to court together. 神はわたしのように人ではないゆえ、／わたしは彼に答えることができない。われわれは共にさばきに臨むことができない。
9 33 Nor is there any mediator between us, Who may lay his hand on us both. われわれの間には、／われわれふたりの上に手を置くべき仲裁者がない。
9 34 Let Him take His rod away from me, And do not let dread of Him terrify me. どうか彼がそのつえをわたしから取り離し、／その怒りをもって、／わたしを恐れさせられないように。
9 35 Then I would speak and not fear Him, But it is not so with me. そうすれば、わたしは語って、／彼を恐れることはない。わたしはみずからそのような者ではないからだ。
ヨブ記 Job 10 10
10 1 "My soul loathes my life; I will give free course to my complaint, I will speak in the bitterness of my soul. わたしは自分の命をいとう。わたしは自分の嘆きを包まず言いあらわし、／わが魂の苦しみによって語ろう。
10 2 I will say to God, 'Do not condemn me; Show me why You contend with me. わたしは神に申そう、／わたしを罪ある者とされないように。なぜわたしと争われるかを知らせてほしい。
10 3 Does it seem good to You that You should oppress, That You should despise the work of Your hands, And smile on the counsel of the wicked? あなたはしえたげをなし、み手のわざを捨て、／悪人の計画を照すことを良しとされるのか。
10 4 Do You have eyes of flesh? Or do You see as man sees? あなたの持っておられるのは肉の目か、／あなたは人が見るように見られるのか。
10 5 Are Your days like the days of a mortal man? Are Your years like the days of a mighty man, あなたの日は人の日のごとく、／あなたの年は人の年のようであるのか。
10 6 That You should seek for my iniquity And search out my sin, あなたはなにゆえわたしのとがを尋ね、／わたしの罪を調べられるのか。
10 7 Although You know that I am not wicked, And there is no one who can deliver from Your hand? あなたはわたしの罪のないことを知っておられる。またあなたの手から救い出しうる者はない。
10 8 'Your hands have made me and fashioned me, An intricate unity; Yet You would destroy me. あなたの手はわたしをかたどり、わたしを作った。ところが今あなたはかえって、わたしを滅ぼされる。
10 9 Remember, I pray, that You have made me like clay. And will You turn me into dust again? どうぞ覚えてください、／あなたは土くれをもってわたしを作られた事を。ところが、わたしをちりに返そうとされるのか。
10 10 Did you not pour me out like milk, And curdle me like cheese, あなたはわたしを乳のように注ぎ、／乾酪のように凝り固まらせたではないか。
10 11 Clothe me with skin and flesh, And knit me together with bones and sinews? あなたは肉と皮とをわたしに着せ、／骨と筋とをもってわたしを編み、
10 12 You have granted me life and favor, And Your care has preserved my spirit. 命といつくしみとをわたしに授け、／わたしを顧みてわが霊を守られた。
10 13 'And these things You have hidden in Your heart; I know that this was with You: しかしあなたはこれらの事をみ心に秘めおかれた。この事があなたの心のうちにあった事を／わたしは知っている。
10 14 If I sin, then You mark me, And will not acquit me of my iniquity. わたしがもし罪を犯せば、／あなたはわたしに目をつけて、／わたしを罪から解き放されない。
10 15 If I am wicked, woe to me; Even if I am righteous, I cannot lift up my head. I am full of disgrace; See my misery! わたしがもし悪ければわたしはわざわいだ。たといわたしが正しくても、／わたしは頭を上げることができない。わたしは恥に満ち、悩みを見ているからだ。
10 16 If my head is exalted, You hunt me like a fierce lion, And again You show Yourself awesome against me. もし頭をあげれば、／あなたは、ししのようにわたしを追い、／わたしにむかって再びくすしき力をあらわされる。
10 17 You renew Your witnesses against me, And increase Your indignation toward me; Changes and war are ever with me. あなたは証人を入れ替えてわたしを攻め、／わたしにむかってあなたの怒りを増し、／新たに軍勢を出してわたしを攻められる。
10 18 'Why then have You brought me out of the womb? Oh, that I had perished and no eye had seen me! なにゆえあなたはわたしを胎から出されたか、／わたしは息絶えて目に見られることなく、
10 19 I would have been as though I had not been. I would have been carried from the womb to the grave. 胎から墓に運ばれて、／初めからなかった者のようであったなら、／よかったのに。
10 20 Are not my days few? Cease! Leave me alone, that I may take a little comfort, わたしの命の日はいくばくもないではないか。どうぞ、しばしわたしを離れて、／少しく慰めを得させられるように。
10 21 Before I go to the place from which I shall not return, To the land of darkness and the shadow of death, わたしが行って、帰ることのないその前に、／これを得させられるように。わたしは暗き地、暗黒の地へ行く。
10 22 A land as dark as darkness itself, As the shadow of death, without any order, Where even the light is like darkness.' " これは暗き地で、やみにひとしく、／暗黒で秩序なく、光もやみのようだ」。
ヨブ記 Job 11 11
11 1 Then Zophar the Naamathite answered and said: そこでナアマびとゾパルは答えて言った、
11 2 "Should not the multitude of words be answered? And should a man full of talk be vindicated? 「言葉が多ければ、答なしにすまされるだろうか。口の達者な人は義とされるだろうか。
11 3 Should your empty talk make men hold their peace? And when you mock, should no one rebuke you? あなたのむなしい言葉は人を沈黙させるだろうか。あなたがあざけるとき、／人はあなたを恥じさせないだろうか。
11 4 For you have said, 'My doctrine is pure, And I am clean in your eyes.' あなたは言う、『わたしの教は正しい、／わたしは神の目に潔い』と。
11 5 But oh, that God would speak, And open His lips against you, どうぞ神が言葉を出し、／あなたにむかってくちびるを開き、
11 6 That He would show you the secrets of wisdom! For they would double your prudence. Know therefore that God exacts from you Less than your iniquity deserves. 知恵の秘密をあなたに示されるように。神はさまざまの知識をもたれるからである。それであなたは知るがよい、神はあなたの罪よりも／軽くあなたを罰せられることを。
11 7 "Can you search out the deep things of God? Can you find out the limits of the Almighty? あなたは神の深い事を窮めることができるか。全能者の限界を窮めることができるか。
11 8 They are higher than heaven--what can you do? Deeper than Sheol--what can you know? それは天よりも高い、あなたは何をなしうるか。それは陰府よりも深い、あなたは何を知りうるか。
11 9 Their measure is longer than the earth And broader than the sea. その量は地よりも長く、海よりも広い。
11 10 "If He passes by, imprisons, and gathers to judgment, Then who can hinder Him? 彼がもし行きめぐって人を捕え、／さばきに召し集められるとき、／だれが彼をはばむことができよう。
11 11 For He knows deceitful men; He sees wickedness also. Will He not then consider it? 彼は卑しい人間を知っておられるからだ。彼は不義を見る時、／これに心をとめられぬであろうか。
11 12 For an empty-headed man will be wise, When a wild donkey's colt is born a man. しかし野ろばの子が人として生れるとき、／愚かな者も悟りを得るであろう。
11 13 "If you would prepare your heart, And stretch out your hands toward Him; もしあなたが心を正しくするならば、／神に向かって手を伸べるであろう。
11 14 If iniquity were in your hand, and you put it far away, And would not let wickedness dwell in your tents; もしあなたの手に不義があるなら、それを遠く去れ、／あなたの天幕に悪を住まわせてはならない。
11 15 Then surely you could lift up your face without spot; Yes, you could be steadfast, and not fear; そうすれば、あなたは恥じることなく／顔をあげることができ、／堅く立って、恐れることはない。
11 16 Because you would forget your misery, And remember it as waters that have passed away, あなたは苦しみを忘れ、／あなたのこれを覚えることは、／流れ去った水のようになる。
11 17 And your life would be brighter than noonday. Though you were dark, you would be like the morning. そしてあなたの命は真昼よりも光り輝き、／たとい暗くても朝のようになる。

12 3 But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you. Indeed, who does not know such things as these? しかしわたしも、あなたがたと同様に悟りをもつ。わたしはあなたがたに劣らない。だれがこのような事を知らないだろうか。
12 4 "I am one mocked by his friends, Who called on God, and He answered him, The just and blameless who is ridiculed. わたしは神に呼ばわって、聞かれた者であるのに、／その友の物笑いとなっている。正しく全き人は物笑いとなる。
12 5 A lamp is despised in the thought of one who is at ease; It is made ready for those whose feet slip. 安らかな者の思いには、／不幸な者に対する侮りがあって、／足のすべる者を待っている。
12 6 The tents of robbers prosper, And those who provoke God are secure-- In what God provides by His hand. かすめ奪う者の天幕は栄え、／神を怒らす者は安らかである。自分の手に神を携えている者も同様だ。
12 7 "But now ask the beasts, and they will teach you; And the birds of the air, and they will tell you; しかし獣に問うてみよ、／それはあなたに教える。空の鳥に問うてみよ、／それはあなたに告げる。
12 8 Or speak to the earth, and it will teach you; And the fish of the sea will explain to you. あるいは地の草や木に問うてみよ、／彼らはあなたに教える。海の魚もまたあなたに示す。

13 2 What you know, I also know; I am not inferior to you. あなたがたの知っている事は、わたしも知っている。わたしはあなたがたに劣らない。
13 3 But I would speak to the Almighty, And I desire to reason with God. しかしわたしは全能者に物を言おう、／わたしは神と論ずることを望む。
13 4 But you forgers of lies, You are all worthless physicians. あなたがたは偽りをもってうわべを繕う者、／皆、無用の医師だ。
13 5Oh, that you would be silent, And it would be your wisdom! どうか、あなたがたは全く沈黙するように。これがあなたがたの知恵であろう。
13 6 Now hear my reasoning, And heed the pleadings of my lips. 今、わたしの論ずることを聞くがよい。わたしの口で言い争うことに耳を傾けるがよい。
13 7 Will you speak wickedly for God, And talk deceitfully for Him? あなたがたは神のために不義を言おうとするのか。また彼のために偽りを述べるのか。
13 8 Will you show partiality for Him? Will you contend for God? あなたがたは彼にひいきしようとするのか。神のために争おうとするのか。
13 9 Will it be well when He searches you out? Or can you mock Him as one mocks a man? 神があなたがたを調べられるとき、／あなたがたは無事だろうか。あなたがたは人を欺くように／彼を欺くことができるか。

13 16 He also shall be my salvation, For a hypocrite could not come before Him. これこそわたしの救となる。神を信じない者は、／神の前に出ることができないからだ。
13 17 Listen carefully to my speech, And to my declaration with your ears. あなたがたはよくわたしの言葉を聞き、／わたしの述べる所を耳に入れよ。
13 18See now, I have prepared my case, I know that I shall be vindicated. 見よ、わたしはすでにわたしの立ち場を言い並べた。わたしは義とされることをみずから知っている。
13 19 Who is he who will contend with me? If now I hold my tongue, I perish. だれかわたしと言い争う事のできる者があろうか。もしあるならば、わたしは黙して死ぬであろう。
13 20 "Only two things do not do to me, Then I will not hide myself from You: ただわたしに二つの事を許してください。そうすれば、わたしはあなたの顔をさけて／隠れることはないでしょう。
13 21 Withdraw Your hand far from me, And let not the dread of You make me afraid. あなたの手をわたしから離してください。あなたの恐るべき事をもって／わたしを恐れさせないでください。
13 22 Then call, and I will answer; Or let me speak, then You respond to me. そしてお呼びください、わたしは答えます。わたしに物を言わせて、／あなたご自身、わたしにお答えください。
13 23 How many are my iniquities and sins? Make me know my transgression and my sin. わたしのよこしまと、わたしの罪がどれほどあるか。わたしのとがと罪とをわたしに知らせてください。

14 13 "Oh, that You would hide me in the grave, That You would conceal me until Your wrath is past, That You would appoint me a set time, and remember me! どうぞ、わたしを陰府にかくし、／あなたの怒りのやむまで、潜ませ、／わたしのために時を定めて、／わたしを覚えてください。
14 14If a man dies, shall he live again? All the days of my hard service I will wait, Till my change comes. 人がもし死ねば、また生きるでしょうか。わたしはわが服役の諸日の間、／わが解放の来るまで待つでしょう。
14 15 You shall call, and I will answer You; You shall desire the work of Your hands. あなたがお呼びになるとき、／わたしは答えるでしょう。あなたはみ手のわざを顧みられるでしょう。
14 16 For now You number my steps, But do not watch over my sin. その時あなたはわたしの歩みを数え、／わたしの罪を見のがされるでしょう。
14 17 My transgression is sealed up in a bag, And You cover my iniquity. わたしのとがは袋の中に封じられ、／あなたはわたしの罪を塗りかくされるでしょう。
14 18 "But as a mountain falls and crumbles away, And as a rock is moved from its place; しかし山は倒れてくずれ、／岩もその所から移される。

15 4 Yes, you cast off fear, And restrain prayer before God. ところがあなたは神を恐れることを捨て、／神の前に祈る事をやめている。
15 5 For your iniquity teaches your mouth, And you choose the tongue of the crafty. あなたの罪はあなたの口を教え、／あなたは悪賢い人の舌を選び用いる。

15 7 "Are you the first man who was born? Or were you made before the hills? あなたは最初に生れた人であるのか。山よりも先に生れたのか。

15 9 What do you know that we do not know? What do you understand that is not in us? あなたが知るものは／われわれも知るではないか。あなたが悟るものは／われわれも悟るではないか。

15 11 Are the consolations of God too small for you, And the word spoken gently with you? 神の慰めおよびあなたに対するやさしい言葉も、／あなたにとって、あまりに小さいというのか。
15 12 Why does your heart carry you away, And what do your eyes wink at, どうしてあなたの心は狂うのか。どうしてあなたの目はしばたたくのか。
15 13 That you turn your spirit against God, And let such words go out of your mouth? あなたが神にむかって気をいらだて、／このような言葉をあなたの口から出すのはなぜか。
15 14 "What is man, that he could be pure? And he who is born of a woman, that he could be righteous? 人はいかなる者か、どうしてこれは清くありえよう。女から生れた者は、どうして正しくありえよう。
15 15 If God puts no trust in His saints, And the heavens are not pure in His sight, 見よ、神はその聖なる者にすら信を置かれない、／もろもろの天も彼の目には清くない。
15 16 How much less man, who is abominable and filthy, Who drinks iniquity like water! まして憎むべき汚れた者、／また不義を水のように飲む人においては。
15 17 "I will tell you, hear me; What I have seen I will declare, わたしはあなたに語ろう、聞くがよい。わたしは自分の見た事を述べよう。
15 18 What wise men have told, Not hiding anything received from their fathers, これは知者たちがその先祖からうけて、／隠す所なく語り伝えたものである。
15 19 To whom alone the land was given, And no alien passed among them: 彼らにのみこの地は授けられて、／他国人はその中に行き来したことがなかった。
15 20 The wicked man writhes with pain all his days, And the number of years is hidden from the oppressor. 悪しき人は一生の間、もだえ苦しむ。残酷な人には年の数が定められている。

16 7 But now He has worn me out; You have made desolate all my company. まことに神は今わたしを疲れさせた。彼はわたしのやからをことごとく荒した。

ヨブ記 Job 17 17
17 1 "My spirit is broken, My days are extinguished, The grave is ready for me. わが霊は破れ、わが日は尽き、／墓はわたしを待っている。
17 2 Are not mockers with me? And does not my eye dwell on their provocation? まことにあざける者どもはわたしのまわりにあり、／わが目は常に彼らの侮りを見る。
17 3 "Now put down a pledge for me with Yourself. Who is he who will shake hands with me? どうか、あなた自ら保証となられるように。ほかにだれがわたしのために／保証となってくれる者があろうか。
17 4 For You have hidden their heart from understanding; Therefore You will not exalt them. あなたは彼らの心を閉じて、／悟ることのないようにされた。それゆえ、彼らに勝利を得させられるはずはない。
17 5 He who speaks flattery to his friends, Even the eyes of his children will fail. 分け前を得るために友を訴えるものは、／その子らの目がつぶれるであろう。

17 16 Will they go down to the gates of Sheol? Shall we have rest together in the dust?" これは下って陰府の関門にいたり、／われわれは共にちりに下るであろうか」。

18 1 Then Bildad the Shuhite answered and said: そこでシュヒびとビルダデは答えて言った、
18 2 "How long till you put an end to words? Gain understanding, and afterward we will speak. 「あなたはいつまで言葉にわなを設けるのか。あなたはまず悟るがよい、／それからわれわれは論じよう。
18 3 Why are we counted as beasts, And regarded as stupid in your sight? なぜ、われわれは獣のように思われるのか。なぜ、あなたの目に愚かな者と見えるのか。
18 4 You who tear yourself in anger, Shall the earth be forsaken for you? Or shall the rock be removed from its place? 怒っておのが身を裂く者よ、／あなたのために地は捨てられるだろうか。岩はその所から移されるだろうか。
18 5 "The light of the wicked indeed goes out, And the flame of his fire does not shine. 悪しき者の光は消え、／その火の炎は光を放たず、
18 6 The light is dark in his tent, And his lamp beside him is put out. その天幕のうちの光は暗く、／彼の上のともしびは消える。
18 7 The steps of his strength are shortened, And his own counsel casts him down. その力ある歩みはせばめられ、／その計りごとは彼を倒す。
18 8 For he is cast into a net by his own feet, And he walks into a snare. 彼は自分の足で網にかかり、／また落し穴の上を歩む。
18 9 The net takes him by the heel, And a snare lays hold of him. わなは彼のかかとを捕え、／網わなは彼を捕える。
18 10 A noose is hidden for him on the ground, And a trap for him in the road. 輪なわは彼を捕えるために地に隠され、／張り網は彼を捕えるために道に設けられる。
18 11 Terrors frighten him on every side, And drive him to his feet. 恐ろしい事が四方にあって彼を恐れさせ、／その歩みにしたがって彼を追う。
18 12 His strength is starved, And destruction is ready at his side. その力は飢え、／災は彼をつまずかすために備わっている。
18 13 It devours patches of his skin; The firstborn of death devours his limbs. その皮膚は病によって食いつくされ、／死のういごは彼の手足を食いつくす。
18 14 He is uprooted from the shelter of his tent, And they parade him before the king of terrors. 彼はその頼む所の天幕から引き離されて、／恐れの王のもとに追いやられる。
18 15 They dwell in his tent who are none of his; Brimstone is scattered on his dwelling. 彼に属さない者が彼の天幕に住み、／硫黄が彼のすまいの上にまき散らされる。
18 16 His roots are dried out below, And his branch withers above. 下ではその根が枯れ、／上ではその枝が切られる。

ヨブ記 Job 19 19
19 1 Then Job answered and said: そこでヨブは答えて言った、
19 2 "How long will you torment my soul, And break me in pieces with words? 「あなたがたはいつまでわたしを悩まし、／言葉をもってわたしを打ち砕くのか。
19 3 These ten times you have reproached me; You are not ashamed that you have wronged me. あなたがたはすでに十度もわたしをはずかしめ、／わたしを悪くあしらってもなお恥じないのか。
19 4 And if indeed I have erred, My error remains with me. たといわたしが、まことにあやまったとしても、／そのあやまちは、わたし自身にとどまる。
19 5 If indeed you exalt yourselves against me, And plead my disgrace against me, もしあなたがたが、／まことにわたしに向かって高ぶり、／わたしの恥を論じるならば、
19 6 Know then that God has wronged me, And has surrounded me with His net. 『神がわたしをしえたげ、／その網でわたしを囲まれたのだ』と知るべきだ。
19 7 "If I cry out concerning wrong, I am not heard. If I cry aloud, there is no justice. 見よ、わたしが『暴虐』と叫んでも答えられず、／助けを呼び求めても、さばきはない。
19 8 He has fenced up my way, so that I cannot pass; And He has set darkness in my paths. 彼はわたしの道にかきをめぐらして、／越えることのできないようにし、／わたしの行く道に暗やみを置かれた。
19 9 He has stripped me of my glory, And taken the crown from my head. 彼はわたしの栄えをわたしからはぎ取り、／わたしのこうべから冠を奪い、
19 10 He breaks me down on every side, And I am gone; My hope He has uprooted like a tree. 四方からわたしを取りこわして、うせさせ、／わたしの望みを木のように抜き去り、
19 11 He has also kindled His wrath against me, And He counts me as one of His enemies. わたしに向かって怒りを燃やし、／わたしを敵のひとりのように思われた。
19 12 His troops come together And build up their road against me; They encamp all around my tent. その軍勢がいっせいに来て、／塁を築いて攻め寄せ、／わたしの天幕のまわりに陣を張った。
19 13 "He has removed my brothers far from me, And my acquaintances are completely estranged from me. 彼はわたしの兄弟たちを／わたしから遠く離れさせられた。わたしを知る人々は全くわたしに疎遠になった。
19 14 My relatives have failed, And my close friends have forgotten me. わたしの親類および親しい友はわたしを見捨て、
19 15 Those who dwell in my house, and my maidservants, Count me as a stranger; I am an alien in their sight. わたしの家に宿る者はわたしを忘れ、／わたしのはしためらはわたしを他人のように思い、／わたしは彼らの目に他国人となった。
19 16 I call my servant, but he gives no answer; I beg him with my mouth. わたしがしもべを呼んでも、彼は答えず、／わたしは口をもって彼に請わなければならない。
19 17 My breath is offensive to my wife, And I am repulsive to the children of my own body. わたしの息はわが妻にいとわれ、／わたしは同じ腹の子たちにきらわれる。
19 18 Even young children despise me; I arise, and they speak against me. わらべたちさえもわたしを侮り、／わたしが起き上がれば、わたしをあざける。
19 19 All my close friends abhor me, And those whom I love have turned against me. 親しい人々は皆わたしをいみきらい、／わたしの愛した人々はわたしにそむいた。
19 20 My bone clings to my skin and to my flesh, And I have escaped by the skin of my teeth. わたしの骨は皮と肉につき、／わたしはわずかに歯の皮をもってのがれた。
19 21 "Have pity on me, have pity on me, O you my friends, For the hand of God has struck me! わが友よ、わたしをあわれめ、わたしをあわれめ、／神のみ手がわたしを打ったからである。
19 22 Why do you persecute me as God does, And are not satisfied with my flesh? あなたがたは、なにゆえ神のようにわたしを責め、／わたしの肉をもって満足しないのか。
19 23 "Oh, that my words were written! Oh, that they were inscribed in a book! どうか、わたしの言葉が、書きとめられるように。どうか、わたしの言葉が、書物にしるされるように。
19 24 That they were engraved on a rock With an iron pen and lead, forever! 鉄の筆と鉛とをもって、／ながく岩に刻みつけられるように。
19 25 For I know that my Redeemer lives, And He shall stand at last on the earth; わたしは知る、／わたしをあがなう者は生きておられる、／後の日に彼は必ず地の上に立たれる。
19 26 And after my skin is destroyed, this I know, That in my flesh I shall see God, わたしの皮がこのように滅ぼされたのち、／わたしは肉を離れて神を見るであろう。
19 27 Whom I shall see for myself, And my eyes shall behold, and not another. How my heart yearns within me! しかもわたしの味方として見るであろう。わたしの見る者はこれ以外のものではない。わたしの心はこれを望んでこがれる。
19 28 If you should say, 'How shall we persecute him?'-- Since the root of the matter is found in me, あなたがたがもし『われわれはどうして／彼を責めようか』と言い、／また『事の根源は彼のうちに見いだされる』／と言うならば、
19 29 Be afraid of the sword for yourselves; For wrath brings the punishment of the sword, That you may know there is a judgment." つるぎを恐れよ、／怒りはつるぎの罰をきたらすからだ。これによって、あなたがたは、／さばきのあることを知るであろう」。
ヨブ記 Job 20 20
20 1 Then Zophar the Naamathite answered and said: そこでナアマびとゾパルは答えて言った、
20 2 "Therefore my anxious thoughts make me answer, Because of the turmoil within me. 「これによって、わたしは答えようとの思いを起し、／これがために心中しきりに騒ぎ立つ。
20 3 I have heard the rebuke that reproaches me, And the spirit of my understanding causes me to answer. わたしはわたしをはずかしめる非難を聞く、／しかし、わたしの悟りの霊がわたしに答えさせる。
20 4 "Do you not know this of old, Since man was placed on earth, あなたはこの事を知らないのか、／昔から地の上に人の置かれてよりこのかた、
20 5 That the triumphing of the wicked is short, And the joy of the hypocrite is but for a moment? 悪しき人の勝ち誇はしばらくであって、／神を信じない者の楽しみは／ただつかのまであることを。
20 6 Though his haughtiness mounts up to the heavens, And his head reaches to the clouds, たといその高さが天に達し、／その頭が雲におよんでも、
20 7 Yet he will perish forever like his own refuse; Those who have seen him will say, 'Where is he?' 彼はおのれの糞のように、とこしえに滅び、／彼を見た者は言うであろう、『彼はどこにおるか』と。
20 8 He will fly away like a dream, and not be found; Yes, he will be chased away like a vision of the night. 彼は夢のように飛び去って、再び見ることはない。彼は夜の幻のように追い払われるであろう。
20 9 The eye that saw him will see him no more, Nor will his place behold him anymore. 彼を見た目はかさねて彼を見ることがなく、／彼のいた所も再び彼を見ることがなかろう。
20 10 His children will seek the favor of the poor, And his hands will restore his wealth. その子らは貧しい者に恵みを求め、／その手は彼の貨財を償うであろう。

20 15 He swallows down riches And vomits them up again; God casts them out of his belly. 彼は貨財をのんでも、またそれを吐き出す、／神がそれを彼の腹から押し出されるからだ。
20 16 He will suck the poison of cobras; The viper's tongue will slay him. 彼は毒蛇の毒を吸い、／まむしの舌は彼を殺すであろう。
20 17 He will not see the streams, The rivers flowing with honey and cream. 彼は蜜と凝乳の流れる川々を見ることができない。
20 18 He will restore that for which he labored, And will not swallow it down; From the proceeds of business He will get no enjoyment. 彼はほねおって獲たものを返して、／それを食うことができない。その商いによって得た利益をもって／楽しむことができない。

20 20 "Because he knows no quietness in his heart, He will not save anything he desires. 彼の欲張りは足ることを知らぬゆえ、／その楽しむ何物をも救うことができないであろう。
20 21 Nothing is left for him to eat; Therefore his well-being will not last. 彼が残して食べなかった物とては一つもない。それゆえ、その繁栄はながく続かないであろう。
20 22 In his self-sufficiency he will be in distress; Every hand of misery will come against him. その力の満ちている時、彼は窮境に陥り、／悩みの手がことごとく彼の上に臨むであろう。
20 23 When he is about to fill his stomach, God will cast on him the fury of His wrath, And will rain it on him while he is eating. 彼がその腹を満たそうとすれば、／神はその激しい怒りを送って、／それを彼の上に降り注ぎ、彼の食物とされる。
20 24 He will flee from the iron weapon; A bronze bow will pierce him through. 彼は鉄の武器を免れても、／青銅の矢は彼を射通すであろう。
20 25 It is drawn, and comes out of the body; Yes, the glittering point comes out of his gall. Terrors come upon him; 彼がこれをその身から引き抜けば、／きらめく矢じりがその肝から出てきて、／恐れが彼の上に臨む。
20 26 Total darkness is reserved for his treasures. An unfanned fire will consume him; It shall go ill with him who is left in his tent. もろもろの暗黒が彼の宝物のためにたくわえられ、／人が吹き起したものでない火が彼を焼きつくし、／その天幕に残っている者を滅ぼすであろう。
20 27 The heavens will reveal his iniquity, And the earth will rise up against him. 天は彼の罪をあらわし、／地は起って彼を攻めるであろう。
20 28 The increase of his house will depart, And his goods will flow away in the day of His wrath. その家の財産は奪い去られ、／神の怒りの日に消えうせるであろう。
20 29 This is the portion from God for a wicked man, The heritage appointed to him by God." これが悪しき人の神から受ける分、／神によって定められた嗣業である」。
ヨブ記 Job 21 21
21 1 Then Job answered and said: そこでヨブは答えて言った、
21 2 "Listen carefully to my speech, And let this be your consolation. 「あなたがたはとくと、わたしの言葉を聞き、／これをもって、あなたがたの慰めとするがよい。
21 3 Bear with me that I may speak, And after I have spoken, keep mocking. まずわたしをゆるして語らせなさい。わたしが語ったのち、あざけるのもよかろう。
21 4 "As for me, is my complaint against man? And if it were, why should I not be impatient? わたしのつぶやきは人に対してであろうか。わたしはどうして、いらだたないでいられようか。
21 5 Look at me and be astonished; Put your hand over your mouth. あなたがたはわたしを見て、驚き、／手を口にあてるがよい。
21 6 Even when I remember I am terrified, And trembling takes hold of my flesh. わたしはこれを思うと恐ろしくなって、／からだがしきりに震えわななく。
21 7 Why do the wicked live and become old, Yes, become mighty in power? なにゆえ悪しき人が生きながらえ、／老齢に達し、かつ力強くなるのか。
21 8 Their descendants are established with them in their sight, And their offspring before their eyes. その子らは彼らの前に堅く立ち、／その子孫もその目の前に堅く立つ。
21 9 Their houses are safe from fear, Neither is the rod of God upon them. その家は安らかで、恐れがなく、／神のつえは彼らの上に臨むことがない。
21 10 Their bull breeds without failure; Their cow calves without miscarriage. その雄牛は種を与えて、誤ることなく、／その雌牛は子を産んで、そこなうことがない。
21 11 They send forth their little ones like a flock, And their children dance. 彼らはその小さい者どもを群れのように連れ出し、／その子らは舞い踊る。
21 12 They sing to the tambourine and harp, And rejoice to the sound of the flute. 彼らは手鼓と琴に合わせて歌い、／笛の音によって楽しみ、

21 16 Indeed their prosperity is not in their hand; The counsel of the wicked is far from me. 見よ、彼らの繁栄は彼らの手にあるではないか。悪人の計りごとは、わたしの遠く及ぶ所でない。
21 17 "How often is the lamp of the wicked put out? How often does their destruction come upon them, The sorrows God distributes in His anger? 悪人のともしびの消されること、／幾たびあるか。その災の彼らの上に臨むこと、／神がその怒りをもって苦しみを与えられること、／幾たびあるか。
21 18 They are like straw before the wind, And like chaff that a storm carries away. 彼らが風の前のわらのようになること、／あらしに吹き去られるもみがらのようになること、／幾たびあるか。
21 19 They say, 'God lays up one's iniquity for his children'; Let Him recompense him, that he may know it. あなたがたは言う、／『神は彼らの罪を積みたくわえて、／その子らに報いられるのだ』と。どうかそれを彼ら自身に報いて、／彼らにその罪を知らせられるように。
21 20 Let his eyes see his destruction, And let him drink of the wrath of the Almighty. すなわち彼ら自身の目にその滅びを見させ、／全能者の怒りを彼らに飲ませられるように。
21 21 For what does he care about his household after him, When the number of his months is cut in half? その月の数のつきるとき、／彼らはその後の家になんのかかわる所があろうか。
21 22"Can anyone teach God knowledge, Since He judges those on high? 神は天にある者たちをさえ、さばかれるのに、／だれが神に知識を教えることができようか。
21 23 One dies in his full strength, Being wholly at ease and secure; ある者は繁栄をきわめ、／全く安らかに、かつおだやかに死に、
21 24 His pails are full of milk, And the marrow of his bones is moist. そのからだには脂肪が満ち、／その骨の髄は潤っている。
21 25 Another man dies in the bitterness of his soul, Never having eaten with pleasure. ある者は心を苦しめて死に、／なんの幸をも味わうことがない。
21 26 They lie down alike in the dust, And worms cover them. 彼らはひとしくちりに伏し、／うじにおおわれる。
21 27 "Look, I know your thoughts, And the schemes with which you would wrong me. 見よ、わたしはあなたがたの思いを知り、／わたしを害しようとするたくらみを知る。
21 28For you say, 'Where is the house of the prince? And where is the tent, The dwelling place of the wicked?' あなたがたは言う、『王侯の家はどこにあるか、／悪人の住む天幕はどこにあるか』と。
21 29 Have you not asked those who travel the road? And do you not know their signs? あなたがたは道行く人々に問わなかったか、／彼らの証言を受け入れないのか。
21 30 For the wicked are reserved for the day of doom; They shall be brought out on the day of wrath. すなわち、災の日に悪人は免れ、／激しい怒りの日に彼は救い出される。
21 31 Who condemns his way to his face? And who repays him for what he has done? だれが彼に向かって、／その道を告げ知らせる者があるか、／だれが彼のした事を彼に報いる者があるか。
21 32 Yet he shall be brought to the grave, And a vigil kept over the tomb. 彼はかかれて墓に行き、／塚の上で見張りされ、
21 33 The clods of the valley shall be sweet to him; Everyone shall follow him, As countless have gone before him. 谷の土くれも彼には快く、／すべての人はそのあとに従う。彼の前に行った者も数えきれない。
21 34 How then can you comfort me with empty words, Since falsehood remains in your answers?" それで、あなたがたはどうしてむなしい事をもって、／わたしを慰めようとするのか。あなたがたの答は偽り以外の何ものでもない」。
ヨブ記 Job 22 22
22 1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said: そこでテマンびとエリパズは答えて言った、
22 2 "Can a man be profitable to God, Though he who is wise may be profitable to himself? 「人は神を益することができるであろうか。賢い人も、ただ自身を益するのみである。
22 3 Is it any pleasure to the Almighty that you are righteous? Or is it gain to Him that you make your ways blameless? あなたが正しくても、全能者になんの喜びがあろう。あなたが自分の道を全うしても、／彼になんの利益があろう。
22 4 "Is it because of your fear of Him that He corrects you, And enters into judgment with you? 神はあなたが神を恐れることのゆえに、／あなたを責め、あなたをさばかれるであろうか。
22 5 Is not your wickedness great, And your iniquity without end? あなたの悪は大きいではないか。あなたの罪は、はてしがない。
22 6 For you have taken pledges from your brother for no reason, And stripped the naked of their clothing. あなたはゆえなく兄弟のものを質にとり、／裸な者の着物をはぎ取り、
22 7 You have not given the weary water to drink, And you have withheld bread from the hungry. 疲れた者に水を飲ませず、／飢えた者に食物を与えなかった。
22 8 But the mighty man possessed the land, And the honorable man dwelt in it. 力ある人は土地を得、／名ある人はそのうちに住んだ。

22 19 "The righteous see it and are glad, And the innocent laugh at them: 正しい者はこれを見て喜び、／罪なき者は彼らをあざ笑って言う、
22 20'Surely our adversaries are cut down, And the fire consumes their remnant.' 『まことにわれわれのあだは滅ぼされ、／その残した物は火で焼き滅ぼされた』と。
22 21 "Now acquaint yourself with Him, and be at peace; Thereby good will come to you. あなたは神と和らいで、平安を得るがよい。そうすれば幸福があなたに来るでしょう。
22 22 Receive, please, instruction from His mouth, And lay up His words in your heart. どうか、彼の口から教を受け、／その言葉をあなたの心におさめるように。
22 23 If you return to the Almighty, you will be built up; You will remove iniquity far from your tents. あなたがもし全能者に立ち返って、おのれを低くし、／あなたの天幕から不義を除き去り、
22 24 Then you will lay your gold in the dust, And the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brooks. こがねをちりの中に置き、／オフルのこがねを谷川の石の中に置き、
22 25Yes, the Almighty will be your gold And your precious silver; 全能者があなたのこがねとなり、／あなたの貴重なしろがねとなるならば、
22 26 For then you will have your delight in the Almighty, And lift up your face to God. その時、あなたは全能者を喜び、／神に向かって顔をあげることができる。
22 27 You will make your prayer to Him, He will hear you, And you will pay your vows. あなたが彼に祈るならば、彼はあなたに聞かれる。そしてあなたは自分の誓いを果す。

23 4 I would present my case before Him, And fill my mouth with arguments わたしは彼の前にわたしの訴えをならべ、／口をきわめて論議するであろう。
23 5 I would know the words which He would answer me, And understand what He would say to me. わたしは、わたしに答えられるみ言葉を知り、／わたしに言われる所を悟ろう。
23 6 Would He contend with me in His great power? No! But He would take note of me. 彼は大いなる力をもって、／わたしと争われるであろうか、／いな、かえってわたしを顧みられるであろう。
23 7 There the upright could reason with Him, And I would be delivered forever from my Judge. かしこでは正しい人は彼と言い争うことができる。そうすれば、わたしはわたしをさばく者から／永久に救われるであろう。
23 8 "Look, I go forward, but He is not there, And backward, but I cannot perceive Him; 見よ、わたしが進んでも、彼を見ない。退いても、彼を認めることができない。
23 9 When He works on the left hand, I cannot behold Him; When He turns to the right hand, I cannot see Him. 左の方に尋ねても、会うことができない。右の方に向かっても、見ることができない。
23 10 But He knows the way that I take; When He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold. しかし彼はわたしの歩む道を知っておられる。彼がわたしを試みられるとき、／わたしは金のように出て来るであろう。
23 11 My foot has held fast to His steps; I have kept His way and not turned aside. わたしの足は彼の歩みに堅く従った。わたしは彼の道を守って離れなかった。
23 12 I have not departed from the commandment of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth More than my necessary food. わたしは彼のくちびるの命令にそむかず、／その口の言葉をわたしの胸にたくわえた。
23 13 "But He is unique, and who can make Him change? And whatever His soul desires, that He does. しかし彼は変ることはない。だれが彼をひるがえすことができようか。彼はその心の欲するところを行われるのだ。
23 14 For He performs what is appointed for me, And many such things are with Him 彼はわたしのために定めた事をなし遂げられる。そしてこのような事が多く彼の心にある。
23 15Therefore I am terrified at His presence; When I consider this, I am afraid of Him. それゆえ、わたしは彼の前におののく。わたしは考えるとき、彼を恐れる。
23 16 For God made my heart weak, And the Almighty terrifies me; 神はわたしの心を弱くされた。全能者はわたしを恐れさせられた。
23 17Because I was not cut off from the presence of darkness, And He did not hide deep darkness from my face. わたしは、やみによって閉じこめられ、／暗黒がわたしの顔をおおっている。
ヨブ記 Job 24 24
24 1 "Since times are not hidden from the Almighty, Why do those who know Him see not His days? なにゆえ、全能者はさばきの時を／定めておかれないのか。なにゆえ、彼を知る者がその日を見ないのか。
24 2 "Some remove landmarks; They seize flocks violently and feed on them; 世には地境を移す者、／群れを奪ってそれを飼う者、
24 3 They drive away the donkey of the fatherless; They take the widow's ox as a pledge. みなしごのろばを追いやる者、／やもめの牛を質に取る者、
24 4 They push the needy off the road; All the poor of the land are forced to hide. 貧しい者を道から押しのける者がある。世の弱い者は皆彼らをさけて身をかくす。
24 5 Indeed, like wild donkeys in the desert, They go out to their work, searching for food. The wilderness yields food for them and for their children. 見よ、彼らは荒野におる野ろばのように出て働き、／野で獲物を求めて、その子らの食物とする。
24 6 They gather their fodder in the field And glean in the vineyard of the wicked. 彼らは畑でそのまぐさを刈り、／また悪人のぶどう畑で拾い集める。
24 7 They spend the night naked, without clothing, And have no covering in the cold. 彼らは着る物がなく、裸で夜を過ごし、／寒さに身をおおうべき物もない。
24 8 They are wet with the showers of the mountains, And huddle around the rock for want of shelter. 彼らは山の雨にぬれ、しのぎ場もなく岩にすがる。
24 9 "Some snatch the fatherless from the breast, And take a pledge from the poor. （みなしごをその母のふところから奪い、／貧しい者の幼な子を質にとる者がある。）
24 10They cause the poor to go naked, without clothing; And they take away the sheaves from the hungry. 彼らは着る物がなく、裸で歩き、／飢えつつ麦束を運び、
24 11 They press out oil within their walls, And tread winepresses, yet suffer thirst. 悪人のオリブ並み木の中で油をしぼり、／酒ぶねを踏んでも、かわきを覚える。
24 12 The dying groan in the city, And the souls of the wounded cry out; Yet God does not charge them with wrong. 町の中から死のうめきが起り、／傷ついた者の魂が助けを呼び求める。しかし神は彼らの祈を顧みられない。
24 13 "There are those who rebel against the light; They do not know its ways Nor abide in its paths. 光にそむく者たちがある。彼らは光の道を知らず、光の道にとどまらない。
24 14 The murderer rises with the light; He kills the poor and needy; And in the night he is like a thief. 人を殺す者は暗いうちに起き出て／弱い者と貧しい者を殺し、／夜は盗びととなる。
24 15 The eye of the adulterer waits for the twilight, Saying, 'No eye will see me'; And he disguises his face. 姦淫する者の目はたそがれを待って、／『だれもわたしを見ていないだろう』と言い、／顔におおう物を当てる。
24 16 In the dark they break into houses Which they marked for themselves in the daytime; They do not know the light. 彼らは暗やみで家をうがち、／昼は閉じこもって光を知らない。
24 17 For the morning is the same to them as the shadow of death; If someone recognizes them, They are in the terrors of the shadow of death. 彼らには暗黒は朝である。彼らは暗黒の恐れを友とするからだ。
24 18 "They should be swift on the face of the waters, Their portion should be cursed in the earth, So that no one would turn into the way of their vineyards. あなたがたは言う、／『彼らは水のおもてにすみやかに流れ去り、／その受ける分は地でのろわれ、／酒ぶねを踏む者はだれも／彼らのぶどう畑の道に行かない。
24 19 As drought and heat consume the snow waters, So the grave consumes those who have sinned. ひでりと熱さは雪水を奪い去る、／陰府が罪を犯した者に対するも、これと同様だ。
24 20 The womb should forget him, The worm should feed sweetly on him; He should be remembered no more, And wickedness should be broken like a tree. 町の広場は彼らを忘れ、／彼らの名は覚えられることなく、／不義は木の折られるように折られる』と。
24 21 For he preys on the barren who do not bear, And does no good for the widow. 彼らは子を産まぬうまずめをくらい、／やもめをあわれむことをしない。
24 22 "But God draws the mighty away with His power; He rises up, but no man is sure of life. しかし神はその力をもって、／強い人々を生きながらえさせられる。彼らは生きる望みのない時にも起きあがる。
24 23 He gives them security, and they rely on it; Yet His eyes are on their ways. 神が彼らに安全を与えられるので、／彼らは安らかである。神の目は彼らの道の上にある。
24 24 They are exalted for a little while, Then they are gone. They are brought low; They are taken out of the way like all others; They dry out like the heads of grain. 彼らはしばし高められて、いなくなり、／ぜにあおいのように枯れて消えうせ、／麦の穂先のように切り取られる。
24 25"Now if it is not so, who will prove me a liar, And make my speech worth nothing?" もし、そうでないなら、／だれがわたしにその偽りを証明し、／わが言葉のむなしいことを示しうるだろうか」。
ヨブ記 Job 25 25
25 1 Then Bildad the Shuhite answered and said: そこでシュヒびとビルダデは答えて言った、
25 2 "Dominion and fear belong to Him; He makes peace in His high places. 「大権と恐れとは神と共にある。彼は高き所で平和を施される。
25 3 Is there any number to His armies? Upon whom does His light not rise? その軍勢は数えることができるか。何物かその光に浴さないものがあるか。
25 4 How then can man be righteous before God? Or how can he be pure who is born of a woman? それで人はどうして神の前に正しくありえようか。女から生れた者がどうして清くありえようか。
25 5 If even the moon does not shine, And the stars are not pure in His sight, 見よ、月さえも輝かず、／星も彼の目には清くない。
25 6 How much less man, who is a maggot, And a son of man, who is a worm?" うじのような人、／虫のような人の子はなおさらである」。
ヨブ記 Job 26 26
26 1 But Job answered and said: そこでヨブは答えて言った、
26 2 "How have you helped him who is without power? How have you saved the arm that has no strength? 「あなたは力のない者をどれほど助けたかしれない。気力のない腕をどれほど救ったかしれない。
26 3 How have you counseled one who has no wisdom? And how have you declared sound advice to many? 知恵のない者をどれほど教えたかしれない。悟りをどれほど多く示したかしれない。
26 4 To whom have you uttered words? And whose spirit came from you? あなたはだれの助けによって言葉をだしたのか。あなたから出たのはだれの霊なのか。
26 5 "The dead tremble, Those under the waters and those inhabiting them. 亡霊は水およびその中に住むものの下に震う。
26 6 Sheol is naked before Him, And Destruction has no covering. 神の前では陰府も裸である。滅びの穴もおおい隠すものはない。
26 7 He stretches out the north over empty space; He hangs the earth on nothing. 彼は北の天を空間に張り、／地を何もない所に掛けられる。
26 8He binds up the water in His thick clouds, Yet the clouds are not broken under it. 彼は水を濃い雲の中に包まれるが、／その下の雲は裂けない。
26 9 He covers the face of His throne, And spreads His cloud over it. 彼は月のおもてをおおい隠して、／雲をその上にのべ、
26 10 He drew a circular horizon on the face of the waters, At the boundary of light and darkness. 水のおもてに円を描いて、／光とやみとの境とされた。
26 11 The pillars of heaven tremble, And are astonished at His rebuke. 彼が戒めると、天の柱は震い、かつ驚く。
26 12 He stirs up the sea with His power, And by His understanding He breaks up the storm. 彼はその力をもって海を静め、／その知恵をもってラハブを打ち砕き、
26 13 By His Spirit He adorned the heavens; His hand pierced the fleeing serpent. その息をもって天を晴れわたらせ、／その手をもって逃げるへびを突き通される。
26 14 Indeed these are the mere edges of His ways, And how small a whisper we hear of Him! But the thunder of His power who can understand?" 見よ、これらはただ彼の道の端にすぎない。われわれが彼について聞く所は／いかにかすかなささやきであろう。しかし、その力のとどろきに至っては、／だれが悟ることができるか」。
ヨブ記 Job 27 27
27 1 Moreover Job continued his discourse, and said: ヨブはまた言葉をついで言った、
27 2 "As God lives, who has taken away my justice, And the Almighty, who has made my soul bitter, 「神は生きておられる。彼はわたしの義を奪い去られた。全能者はわたしの魂を悩まされた。
27 3 As long as my breath is in me, And the breath of God in my nostrils, わたしの息がわたしのうちにあり、／神の息がわたしの鼻にある間、
27 4 My lips will not speak wickedness, Nor my tongue utter deceit. わたしのくちびるは不義を言わない、／わたしの舌は偽りを語らない。
27 5 Far be it from me That I should say you are right; Till I die I will not put away my integrity from me. わたしは断じて、あなたがたを正しいとは認めない。わたしは死ぬまで、潔白を主張してやめない。
27 6 My righteousness I hold fast, and will not let it go; My heart shall not reproach me as long as I live. わたしは堅くわが義を保って捨てない。わたしは今まで一日も心に責められた事がない。
27 7 "May my enemy be like the wicked, And he who rises up against me like the unrighteous. どうか、わたしの敵は悪人のようになり、／わたしに逆らう者は／不義なる者のようになるように。
27 8 For what is the hope of the hypocrite, Though he may gain much, If God takes away his life? 神が彼を断ち、その魂を抜きとられるとき、／神を信じない者になんの望みがあろう。
27 9 Will God hear his cry When trouble comes upon him? 災が彼に臨むとき、／神はその叫びを聞かれるであろうか。
27 10 Will he delight himself in the Almighty? Will he always call on God? 彼は全能者を喜ぶであろうか、／常に神を呼ぶであろうか。
27 11 "I will teach you about the hand of God; What is with the Almighty I will not conceal. わたしは神のみ手についてあなたがたに教え、／全能者と共にあるものを隠すことをしない。
27 12 Surely all of you have seen it; Why then do you behave with complete nonsense? 見よ、あなたがたは皆みずからこれを見た、／それなのに、どうしてむなしい者となったのか。
27 13 "This is the portion of a wicked man with God, And the heritage of oppressors, received from the Almighty: これは悪人の神から受ける分、／圧制者の全能者から受ける嗣業である。
27 14 If his children are multiplied, it is for the sword; And his offspring shall not be satisfied with bread. その子らがふえればつるぎに渡され、／その子孫は食物に飽きることがない。
27 15 Those who survive him shall be buried in death, And their widows shall not weep, その生き残った者は疫病で死んで埋められ、／そのやもめらは泣き悲しむことをしない。
27 16 Though he heaps up silver like dust, And piles up clothing like clay-- たとい彼は銀をちりのように積み、／衣服を土のように備えても、
27 17 He may pile it up, but the just will wear it, And the innocent will divide the silver. その備えるものは正しい人がこれを着、／その銀は罪なき者が分かち取るであろう。
27 18 He builds his house like a moth, Like a booth which a watchman makes. 彼の建てる家は、くもの巣のようであり、／番人の造る小屋のようである。
27 19 The rich man will lie down, But not be gathered up; He opens his eyes, And he is no more. 彼は富める身で寝ても、再び富むことがなく、／目を開けばその富はない。
27 20 Terrors overtake him like a flood; A tempest steals him away in the night. 恐ろしい事が大水のように彼を襲い、／夜はつむじ風が彼を奪い去る。
27 21 The east wind carries him away, and he is gone; It sweeps him out of his place. 東風が彼を揚げると、彼は去り、／彼をその所から吹き払う。
27 22 It hurls against him and does not spare; He flees desperately from its power. それは彼を投げつけて、あわれむことなく、／彼はその力からのがれようと、もがく。
27 23 Men shall clap their hands at him, And shall hiss him out of his place. それは彼に向かって手を鳴らし、／あざけり笑って、その所から出て行かせる。
ヨブ記 Job 28 28
28 1 "Surely there is a mine for silver, And a place where gold is refined. しろがねには掘り出す穴があり、／精錬するこがねには出どころがある。
28 2 Iron is taken from the earth, And copper is smelted from ore. くろがねは土から取り、／あかがねは石から溶かして取る。
28 3Man puts an end to darkness, And searches every recess For ore in the darkness and the shadow of death. 人は暗やみを破り、／いやはてまでも尋ねきわめて、／暗やみおよび暗黒の中から鉱石を取る。
28 4 He breaks open a shaft away from people; In places forgotten by feet They hang far away from men; They swing to and fro. 彼らは人の住む所を離れて縦穴をうがち、／道行く人に忘れられ、／人を離れて身をつりさげ、揺れ動く。
28 5 As for the earth, from it comes bread, But underneath it is turned up as by fire; 地はそこから食物を出す。その下は火でくつがえされるようにくつがえる。
28 6 Its stones are the source of sapphires, And it contains gold dust. その石はサファイヤのある所、／そこにはまた金塊がある。
28 7 That path no bird knows, Nor has the falcon's eye seen it. その道は猛禽も知らず、たかの目もこれを見ず、
28 8 The proud lions have not trodden it, Nor has the fierce lion passed over it. 猛獣もこれを踏まず、ししもこれを通らなかった。
28 9 He puts his hand on the flint; He overturns the mountains at the roots. 人は堅い岩に手をくだして、／山を根元からくつがえす。
28 10 He cuts out channels in the rocks, And his eye sees every precious thing. 彼は岩に坑道を掘り、／その目はもろもろの尊い物を見る。
28 11 He dams up the streams from trickling; What is hidden he brings forth to light. 彼は水路をふさいで、漏れないようにし、／隠れた物を光に取り出す。
28 12 "But where can wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding? しかし知恵はどこに見いだされるか。悟りのある所はどこか。
28 13 Man does not know its value, Nor is it found in the land of the living. 人はそこに至る道を知らない、／また生ける者の地でそれを獲ることができない。
28 14 The deep says, 'It is not in me'; And the sea says, 'It is not with me.' 淵は言う、『それはわたしのうちにない』と。また海は言う、『わたしのもとにない』と。
28 15 It cannot be purchased for gold, Nor can silver be weighed for its price. 精金もこれと換えることはできない。銀も量ってその価とすることはできない。
28 16 It cannot be valued in the gold of Ophir, In precious onyx or sapphire. オフルの金をもってしても、／その価を量ることはできない。尊い縞めのうも、サファイヤも同様である。
28 17 Neither gold nor crystal can equal it, Nor can it be exchanged for jewelry of fine gold. こがねも、玻璃もこれに並ぶことができない。また精金の器物もこれと換えることができない。
28 18 No mention shall be made of coral or quartz, For the price of wisdom is above rubies. さんごも水晶も言うに足りない。知恵を得るのは真珠を得るのにまさる。
28 19 The topaz of Ethiopia cannot equal it, Nor can it be valued in pure gold. エチオピヤのトパズもこれに並ぶことができない。純金をもってしても、その価を量ることはできない。
28 20 "From where then does wisdom come? And where is the place of understanding? それでは知恵はどこから来るか。悟りのある所はどこか。
28 21 It is hidden from the eyes of all living, And concealed from the birds of the air. これはすべての生き物の目に隠され、／空の鳥にも隠されている。
28 22 Destruction and Death say, 'We have heard a report about it with our ears.' 滅びも死も言う、／『われわれはそのうわさを耳に聞いただけだ』。
28 23 God understands its way, And He knows its place. 神はこれに至る道を悟っておられる、／彼はそのある所を知っておられる。
28 24 For He looks to the ends of the earth, And sees under the whole heavens, 彼は地の果までもみそなわし、／天が下を見きわめられるからだ。
28 25 To establish a weight for the wind, And apportion the waters by measure. 彼が風に重さを与え、／水をますで量られたとき、
28 26 When He made a law for the rain, And a path for the thunderbolt, 彼が雨のために規定を設け、／雷のひらめきのために道を設けられたとき、
28 27 Then He saw wisdom and declared it; He prepared it, indeed, He searched it out. 彼は知恵を見て、これをあらわし、／これを確かめ、これをきわめられた。
28 28 And to man He said, 'Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, And to depart from evil is understanding.' " そして人に言われた、／『見よ、主を恐れることは知恵である、／悪を離れることは悟りである』と」。
ヨブ記 Job 29 29
29 1 Job further continued his discourse, and said: ヨブはまた言葉をついで言った、
29 2 Oh, that I were as in months past, As in the days when God watched over me; 「ああ過ぎた年月のようであったらよいのだが、／神がわたしを守ってくださった日のようで／あったらよいのだが。
29 3When His lamp shone upon my head, And when by His light I walked through darkness; あの時には、彼のともしびがわたしの頭の上に輝き、／彼の光によってわたしは暗やみを歩んだ。
29 4 Just as I was in the days of my prime, When the friendly counsel of God was over my tent; わたしの盛んな時のようであったならよいのだが。あの時には、神の親しみが／わたしの天幕の上にあった。
29 5 When the Almighty was yet with me, When my children were around me; あの時には、全能者がなおわたしと共にいまし、／わたしの子供たちもわたしの周囲にいた。
29 6 When my steps were bathed with cream, And the rock poured out rivers of oil for me! あの時、わたしの足跡は乳で洗われ、／岩もわたしのために油の流れを注ぎだした。
29 7 "When I went out to the gate by the city, When I took my seat in the open square, あの時には、わたしは町の門に出て行き、／わたしの座を広場に設けた。
29 8 The young men saw me and hid, And the aged arose and stood; 若い者はわたしを見てしりぞき、／老いた者は身をおこして立ち、
29 9 The princes refrained from talking, And put their hand on their mouth; 君たる者も物言うことをやめて、／その口に手を当て、
29 10 The voice of nobles was hushed, And their tongue stuck to the roof of their mouth. 尊い者も声をおさめて、／その舌を上あごにつけた。
29 11 When the ear heard, then it blessed me, And when the eye saw, then it approved me; 耳に聞いた者はわたしを祝福された者となし、／目に見た者はこれをあかしした。
29 12 Because I delivered the poor who cried out, The fatherless and the one who had no helper. これは助けを求める貧しい者を救い、／また、みなしごおよび助ける人のない者を／救ったからである。
29 13 The blessing of a perishing man came upon me, And I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy. 今にも滅びようとした者の祝福がわたしに来た。わたしはまたやもめの心をして喜び歌わせた。
29 14 I put on righteousness, and it clothed me; My justice was like a robe and a turban. わたしは正義を着、正義はわたしをおおった。わたしの公義は上着のごとく、／また冠のようであった。
29 15 I was eyes to the blind, And I was feet to the lame. わたしは目しいの目となり、／足なえの足となり、
29 16 I was a father to the poor, And I searched out the case that I did not know. 貧しい者の父となり、／知らない人の訴えの理由を調べてやった。
29 17 I broke the fangs of the wicked, And plucked the victim from his teeth. わたしはまた悪しき者のきばを折り、／その歯の間から獲物を引き出した。
29 18 "Then I said, 'I shall die in my nest, And multiply my days as the sand. その時、わたしは言った、／『わたしは自分の巣の中で死に、／わたしの日は砂のように多くなるであろう。
29 19 My root is spread out to the waters, And the dew lies all night on my branch. わたしの根は水のほとりにはびこり、／露は夜もすがらわたしの枝におくであろう。
29 20 My glory is fresh within me, And my bow is renewed in my hand.' わたしの栄えはわたしと共に新しく、／わたしの弓はわたしの手にいつも強い』と。
29 21 "Men listened to me and waited, And kept silence for my counsel. 人々はわたしに聞いて待ち、／黙して、わたしの教に従った。
29 22 After my words they did not speak again, And my speech settled on them as dew. わたしが言った後は彼らは再び言わなかった。わたしの言葉は彼らの上に／雨のように降りそそいだ。
29 23 They waited for me as for the rain, And they opened their mouth wide as for the spring rain. 彼らは雨を待つように、わたしを待ち望み、／春の雨を仰ぐように口を開いて仰いだ。
29 24 If I mocked at them, they did not believe it, And the light of my countenance they did not cast down. 彼らが希望を失った時にも、／わたしは彼らにむかってほほえんだ。彼らはわたしの顔の光を除くことができなかった。
29 25 I chose the way for them, and sat as chief; So I dwelt as a king in the army, As one who comforts mourners. わたしは彼らのために道を選び、／そのかしらとして座し、／軍中の王のようにしており、／嘆く者を慰める人のようであった。
ヨブ記 Job 30 30
30 1 "But now they mock at me, men younger than I, Whose fathers I disdained to put with the dogs of my flock. しかし今はわたしよりも年若い者が、／かえってわたしをあざ笑う。彼らの父はわたしが卑しめて、／群れの犬と一緒にさえしなかった者だ。
30 2 Indeed, what profit is the strength of their hands to me? Their vigor has perished. 彼らの手の力からわたしは何を得るであろうか、／彼らはその気力がすでに衰えた人々だ。
30 3 They are gaunt from want and famine, Fleeing late to the wilderness, desolate and waste, 彼らは乏しさと激しい飢えとによって、／かわいた荒れ地をかむ。
30 4 Who pluck mallow by the bushes, And broom tree roots for their food. 彼らは、ぜにあおいおよび灌木の葉を摘み、／れだまの根をもって身を暖める。
30 5 They were driven out from among men, They shouted at them as at a thief. 彼らは人々の中から追いだされ、／盗びとを追うように、人々は彼らを追い呼ばわる。
30 6 They had to live in the clefts of the valleys, In caves of the earth and the rocks. 彼らは急流の谷間に住み、／土の穴または岩の穴におり、
30 7 Among the bushes they brayed, Under the nettles they nestled. 灌木の中にいななき、いらくさの下に押し合う。
30 8 They were sons of fools, Yes, sons of vile men; They were scourged from the land. 彼らは愚かな者の子、また卑しい者の子であって、／国から追いだされた者だ。
30 9 "And now I am their taunting song; Yes, I am their byword. それなのに、わたしは今彼らの歌となり、／彼らの笑い草となった。
30 10 They abhor me, they keep far from me; They do not hesitate to spit in my face. 彼らはわたしをいとい、遠くわたしをはなれ、／わたしの顔につばきすることも、ためらわない。
30 11 Because He has loosed my bowstring and afflicted me, They have cast off restraint before me. 神がわたしの綱を解いて、／わたしを卑しめられたので、／彼らもわたしの前に慎みを捨てた。
30 12 At my right hand the rabble arises; They push away my feet, And they raise against me their ways of destruction. このともがらはわたしの右に立ち上がり、／わたしを追いのけ、／わたしにむかって滅びの道を築く。
30 13 They break up my path, They promote my calamity; They have no helper. 彼らはわたしの道をこわし、わたしの災を促す。これをさし止める者はない。

30 16 "And now my soul is poured out because of my plight; The days of affliction take hold of me. 今は、わたしの魂はわたしの内にとけて流れ、／悩みの日はわたしを捕えた。
30 17 My bones are pierced in me at night, And my gnawing pains take no rest. 夜はわたしの骨を激しく悩まし、／わたしをかむ苦しみは、やむことがない。
30 18 By great force my garment is disfigured; It binds me about as the collar of my coat. それは暴力をもって、わたしの着物を捕え、／はだ着のえりのように、わたしをしめつける。
30 19 He has cast me into the mire, And I have become like dust and ashes. 神がわたしを泥の中に投げ入れられたので、／わたしはちり灰のようになった。
30 20 "I cry out to You, but You do not answer me; I stand up, and You regard me. わたしがあなたにむかって呼ばわっても、／あなたは答えられない。わたしが立っていても、あなたは顧みられない。
30 21 But You have become cruel to me; With the strength of Your hand You oppose me. あなたは変って、わたしに無情な者となり、／み手の力をもってわたしを攻め悩まされる。
30 22 You lift me up to the wind and cause me to ride on it; You spoil my success. あなたはわたしを揚げて風の上に乗せ、／大風のうなり声の中に、もませられる。
30 23 For I know that You will bring me to death, And to the house appointed for all living. わたしは知っている、あなたはわたしを死に帰らせ、／すべての生き物の集まる家に帰らせられることを。
30 24 "Surely He would not stretch out His hand against a heap of ruins, If they cry out when He destroys it. さりながら荒塚の中にある者は、／手を伸べないであろうか、／災の中にある者は助けを呼び求めないであろうか。
30 25Have I not wept for him who was in trouble? Has not my soul grieved for the poor? わたしは苦しい日を送る者のために／泣かなかったか。わたしの魂は貧しい人のために／悲しまなかったか。
30 26 But when I looked for good, evil came to me; And when I waited for light, then came darkness. しかしわたしが幸を望んだのに災が来た。光を待ち望んだのにやみが来た。
30 27 My heart is in turmoil and cannot rest; Days of affliction confront me. わたしのはらわたは沸きかえって、静まらない。悩みの日がわたしに近づいた。
30 28 I go about mourning, but not in the sun; I stand up in the assembly and cry out for help. わたしは日の光によらずに黒くなって歩き、／公会の中に立って助けを呼び求める。
30 29 I am a brother of jackals, And a companion of ostriches. わたしは山犬の兄弟となり、／だちょうの友となった。
30 30 My skin grows black and falls from me; My bones burn with fever. わたしの皮膚は黒くなって、はげ落ち、／わたしの骨は熱さによって燃え、
30 31 My harp is turned to mourning, And my flute to the voice of those who weep. わたしの琴は悲しみの音となり、／わたしの笛は泣く者の声となった。

31 1 "I have made a covenant with my eyes; Why then should I look upon a young woman? わたしは、わたしの目と／契約を結んだ、／どうして、おとめを慕うことができようか。
31 2 For what is the allotment of God from above, And the inheritance of the Almighty from on high? もしそうすれば上から神の下される分は／どんなであろうか。高き所から全能者の与えられる嗣業は／どんなであろうか。
31 3 Is it not destruction for the wicked, And disaster for the workers of iniquity? 不義なる者には災が下らないであろうか。悪をなす者には災難が臨まないであろうか。
31 4Does He not see my ways, And count all my steps? 彼はわたしの道をみそなわし、／わたしの歩みをことごとく数えられぬであろうか。
31 5 "If I have walked with falsehood, Or if my foot has hastened to deceit, もし、わたしがうそと共に歩み、／わたしの足が偽りにむかって／急いだことがあるなら、
31 6 Let me be weighed on honest scales, That God may know my integrity. （正しいはかりをもってわたしを量れ、／そうすれば神はわたしの潔白を知られるであろう。）
31 7 If my step has turned from the way, Or my heart walked after my eyes, Or if any spot adheres to my hands, もしわたしの歩みが、道をはなれ、／わたしの心がわたしの目にしたがって歩み、／わたしの手に汚れがついていたなら、
31 8 Then let me sow, and another eat; Yes, let my harvest be rooted out. わたしのまいたのを他の人が食べ、／わたしのために成長するものが、／抜き取られてもかまわない。
31 9 "If my heart has been enticed by a woman, Or if I have lurked at my neighbor's door, もし、わたしの心が、女に迷ったことがあるか、／またわたしが隣り人の門で／待ち伏せしたことがあるなら、
31 10 Then let my wife grind for another, And let others bow down over her. わたしの妻が他の人のためにうすをひき、／他の人が彼女の上に寝てもかまわない。
31 11 For that would be wickedness; Yes, it would be iniquity deserving of judgment. これは重い罪であって、／さばきびとに罰せられるべき悪事だからである。
31 12 For that would be a fire that consumes to destruction, And would root out all my increase. これは滅びに至るまでも焼きつくす火であって、／わたしのすべての産業を根こそぎ焼くであろう。
31 13 "If I have despised the cause of my male or female servant When they complained against me, わたしのしもべ、また、はしためが／わたしと言い争ったときに、／わたしがもしその言い分を退けたことがあるなら、
31 14 What then shall I do when God rises up? When He punishes, how shall I answer Him? 神が立ち上がられるとき、わたしはどうしようか、／神が尋ねられるとき、なんとお答えしようか。
31 15 Did not He who made me in the womb make them? Did not the same One fashion us in the womb? わたしを胎内に造られた者は、／彼をも造られたのではないか。われわれを腹の内に形造られた者は、／ただひとりではないか。
31 16 "If I have kept the poor from their desire, Or caused the eyes of the widow to fail, わたしがもし貧しい者の願いを退け、／やもめの目を衰えさせ、
31 17 Or eaten my morsel by myself, So that the fatherless could not eat of it あるいはわたしひとりで食物を食べて、／みなしごに食べさせなかったことがあるなら、
31 18 (But from my youth I reared him as a father, And from my mother's womb I guided the widow); （わたしは彼の幼い時から父のように彼を育て、／またその母の胎を出たときから彼を導いた。）
31 19 If I have seen anyone perish for lack of clothing, Or any poor man without covering; もし着物がないために死のうとする者や、／身をおおう物のない貧しい人をわたしが見た時に、
31 20 If his heart has not blessed me, And if he was not warmed with the fleece of my sheep; その腰がわたしを祝福せず、／また彼がわたしの羊の毛で／暖まらなかったことがあるなら、
31 21 If I have raised my hand against the fatherless, When I saw I had help in the gate; もしわたしを助ける者が門におるのを見て、／みなしごにむかってわたしの手を／振り上げたことがあるなら、
31 22 Then let my arm fall from my shoulder, Let my arm be torn from the socket. わたしの肩骨が、肩から落ち、／わたしの腕が、つけ根から折れてもかまわない。
31 23 For destruction from God is a terror to me, And because of His magnificence I cannot endure. わたしは神から出る災を恐れる、／その威光の前には何事もなすことはできない。
31 24 "If I have made gold my hope, Or said to fine gold, 'You are my confidence'; わたしがもし金をわが望みとし、／精金をわが頼みと言ったことがあるなら、
31 25If I have rejoiced because my wealth was great, And because my hand had gained much; わたしがもしわが富の大いなる事と、／わたしの手に多くの物を獲た事とを／喜んだことがあるなら、
31 26 If I have observed the sun when it shines, Or the moon moving in brightness, わたしがもし日の輝くのを見、／または月の照りわたって動くのを見た時、
31 27 So that my heart has been secretly enticed, And my mouth has kissed my hand; 心ひそかに迷って、手に口づけしたことがあるなら、
31 28 This also would be an iniquity deserving of judgment, For I would have denied God who is above. これもまたさばきびとに罰せらるべき悪事だ。わたしは上なる神を欺いたからである。
31 29 "If I have rejoiced at the destruction of him who hated me, Or lifted myself up when evil found him わたしがもしわたしを憎む者の滅びるのを喜び、／または災が彼に臨んだとき、／勝ち誇ったことがあるなら、
31 30 (Indeed I have not allowed my mouth to sin By asking for a curse on his soul); （わたしはわが口に罪を犯させず、／のろいをもって彼の命を求めたことはなかった。）
31 31 If the men of my tent have not said, 'Who is there that has not been satisfied with his meat?' もし、わたしの天幕の人々で、／『だれか彼の肉に飽きなかった者があるか』と、／言わなかったことがあるなら、
31 32 (But no sojourner had to lodge in the street, For I have opened my doors to the traveler); （他国人はちまたに宿らず、／わたしはわが門を旅びとに開いた。）
31 33 If I have covered my transgressions as Adam, By hiding my iniquity in my bosom, わたしがもし人々の前にわたしのとがをおおい、／わたしの悪事を胸の中に隠したことがあるなら、
31 34 Because I feared the great multitude, And dreaded the contempt of families, So that I kept silence And did not go out of the door-- わたしが大衆を恐れ、宗族の侮りにおじて、／口を閉じ、門を出なかったことがあるなら、
31 35 Oh, that I had one to hear me! Here is my mark. Oh, that the Almighty would answer me, That my Prosecutor had written a book! ああ、わたしに聞いてくれる者があればよいのだが、／（わたしのかきはんがここにある。どうか、全能者がわたしに答えられるように。）／ああ、わたしの敵の書いた／告訴状があればよいのだが。
31 36 Surely I would carry it on my shoulder, And bind it on me like a crown; わたしは必ずこれを肩に負い、／冠のようにこれをわが身に結び、
31 37 I would declare to Him the number of my steps; Like a prince I would approach Him. わが歩みの数を彼に述べ、／君たる者のようにして、彼に近づくであろう。
31 38 "If my land cries out against me, And its furrows weep together; もしわが田畑がわたしに向かって呼ばわり、／そのうねみぞが共に泣き叫んだことがあるなら、
31 39 If I have eaten its fruit without money, Or caused its owners to lose their lives; もしわたしが金を払わないでその産物を食べ、／その持ち主を死なせたことがあるなら、
31 40 Then let thistles grow instead of wheat, And weeds instead of barley." The words of Job are ended. 小麦の代りに、いばらがはえ、／大麦の代りに雑草がはえてもかまわない」。ヨブの言葉は終った。
ヨブ記 Job 32 32
32 1 So these three men ceased answering Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes. このようにヨブが自分の正しいことを主張したので、これら三人の者はヨブに答えるのをやめた。
32 2 Then the wrath of Elihu, the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the family of Ram, was aroused against Job; his wrath was aroused because he justified himself rather than God. その時ラム族のブズびとバラケルの子エリフは怒りを起した。すなわちヨブが神よりも自分の正しいことを主張するので、彼はヨブに向かって怒りを起した。
32 3Also against his three friends his wrath was aroused, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job. またヨブの三人の友がヨブを罪ありとしながら、答える言葉がなかったので、エリフは彼らにむかっても怒りを起した。
32 4 Now because they were years older than he, Elihu had waited to speak to Job. エリフは彼らが皆、自分よりも年長者であったので、ヨブに物言うことをひかえて待っていたが、
32 5 When Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, his wrath was aroused. ここにエリフは三人の口に答える言葉のないのを見て怒りを起した。
32 6 So Elihu, the son of Barachel the Buzite, answered and said: "I am young in years, and you are very old; Therefore I was afraid, And dared not declare my opinion to you. ブズびとバラケルの子エリフは答えて言った、／「わたしは年若く、あなたがたは年老いている。それゆえ、わたしははばかって、／わたしの意見を述べることをあえてしなかった。
32 7 I said, 'Age should speak, And multitude of years should teach wisdom.' わたしは思った、『日を重ねた者が語るべきだ、／年を積んだ者が知恵を教えるべきだ』と。
32 8 But there is a spirit in man, And the breath of the Almighty gives him understanding. しかし人のうちには霊があり、／全能者の息が人に悟りを与える。
32 9 Great men are not always wise, Nor do the aged always understand justice. 老いた者、必ずしも知恵があるのではなく、／年とった者、必ずしも道理をわきまえるのではない。
32 10 "Therefore I say, 'Listen to me, I also will declare my opinion.' ゆえにわたしは言う、『わたしに聞け、／わたしもまたわが意見を述べよう』。
32 11 Indeed I waited for your words, I listened to your reasonings, while you searched out what to say. 見よ、わたしはあなたがたの言葉に期待し、／その知恵ある言葉に耳を傾け、／あなたがたが言うべき言葉を捜し出すのを／待っていた。
32 12 I paid close attention to you; And surely not one of you convinced Job, Or answered his words-- わたしはあなたがたに心をとめたが、／あなたがたのうちにヨブを言いふせる者は／ひとりもなく、／また彼の言葉に答える者はひとりもなかった。
32 13 Lest you say, 'We have found wisdom'; God will vanquish him, not man. おそらくあなたがたは言うだろう、／『われわれは知恵を見いだした、／彼に勝つことのできるのは神だけで、／人にはできない』と。
32 14 Now he has not directed his words against me; So I will not answer him with your words. 彼はその言葉をわたしに向けて言わなかった。わたしはあなたがたの言葉をもって／彼に答えることはしない。
32 15 "They are dismayed and answer no more; Words escape them. 彼らは驚いて、もはや答えることをせず、／彼らには、もはや言うべき言葉がない。
32 16 And I have waited, because they did not speak, Because they stood still and answered no more. 彼らは物言わず、／立ちとどまって、もはや答えるところがないので、／わたしはこれ以上待つ必要があろうか。
32 17 I also will answer my part, I too will declare my opinion. わたしもまたわたしの分を答え、／わたしの意見を述べよう。
32 18 For I am full of words; The spirit within me compels me. わたしには言葉が満ち、／わたしのうちの霊がわたしに迫るからだ。
32 19 Indeed my belly is like wine that has no vent; It is ready to burst like new wineskins. 見よ、わたしの心は口を開かないぶどう酒のように、／新しいぶどう酒の皮袋のように、／今にも張りさけようとしている。
32 20 I will speak, that I may find relief; I must open my lips and answer. わたしは語って、気を晴らし、／くちびるを開いて答えよう。
32 21 Let me not, I pray, show partiality to anyone; Nor let me flatter any man. わたしはだれをもかたより見ることなく、／また何人にもへつらうことをしない。
32 22 For I do not know how to flatter, Else my Maker would soon take me away. わたしはへつらうことを知らないからだ。もしへつらうならば、わたしの造り主は直ちに／わたしを滅ぼされるであろう。
ヨブ記 Job 33 33
33 1 "But please, Job, hear my speech, And listen to all my words. だから、ヨブよ、今わたしの言うことを聞け、／わたしのすべての言葉に耳を傾けよ。
33 2Now, I open my mouth; My tongue speaks in my mouth. 見よ、わたしは口を開き、口の中の舌は物言う。
33 3 My words come from my upright heart; My lips utter pure knowledge. わたしの言葉はわが心の正しきを語り、／わたしのくちびるは真実をもってその知識を語る。
33 4 The Spirit of God has made me, And the breath of the Almighty gives me life. 神の霊はわたしを造り、／全能者の息はわたしを生かす。
33 5 If you can answer me, Set your words in order before me; Take your stand. あなたがもしできるなら、わたしに答えよ、／わたしの前に言葉を整えて、立て。
33 6 Truly I am as your spokesman before God; I also have been formed out of clay. 見よ、神に対しては、わたしもあなたと同様であり、／わたしもまた土から取って造られた者だ。
33 7 Surely no fear of me will terrify you, Nor will my hand be heavy on you. 見よ、わたしの威厳はあなたを恐れさせない、／わたしの勢いはあなたを圧しない。
33 8 "Surely you have spoken in my hearing, And I have heard the sound of your words, saying, 確かに、あなたはわたしの聞くところで言った、／わたしはあなたの言葉の声を聞いた。
33 9 'I am pure, without transgression; I am innocent, and there is no iniquity in me. あなたは言う、『わたしはいさぎよく、とがはない。わたしは清く、不義はない。
33 10 Yet He finds occasions against me, He counts me as His enemy; 見よ、彼はわたしを攻める口実を見つけ、／わたしを自分の敵とみなし、
33 11 He puts my feet in the stocks, He watches all my paths.' わたしの足をかせにはめ、／わたしのすべての行いに目をとめられる』と。
33 12"Look, in this you are not righteous. I will answer you, For God is greater than man. 見よ、わたしはあなたに答える、／あなたはこの事において正しくない。神は人よりも大いなる者だ。
33 13 Why do you contend with Him? For He does not give an accounting of any of His words. あなたが『彼はわたしの言葉に／少しも答えられない』といって、／彼に向かって言い争うのは、どういうわけであるか。
33 14 For God may speak in one way, or in another, Yet man does not perceive it. 神は一つの方法によって語られ、／また二つの方法によって語られるのだが、／人はそれを悟らないのだ。
33 15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, When deep sleep falls upon men, While slumbering on their beds, 人々が熟睡するとき、または床にまどろむとき、／夢あるいは夜の幻のうちで、
33 16 Then He opens the ears of men, And seals their instruction. 彼は人々の耳を開き、／警告をもって彼らを恐れさせ、
33 17 In order to turn man from his deed, And conceal pride from man, こうして人にその悪しきわざを離れさせ、／高ぶりを人から除き、
33 18 He keeps back his soul from the Pit, And his life from perishing by the sword. その魂を守って、墓に至らせず、／その命を守って、つるぎに滅びないようにされる。
33 19 "Man is also chastened with pain on his bed, And with strong pain in many of his bones, 人はまたその床の上で痛みによって懲らされ、／その骨に戦いが絶えることなく、
33 20 So that his life abhors bread, And his soul succulent food. その命は、食物をいとい、／その食欲は、おいしい食物をきらう。
33 21 His flesh wastes away from sight, And his bones stick out which once were not seen. その肉はやせ落ちて見えず、／その骨は見えなかったものまでもあらわになり、
33 22 Yes, his soul draws near the Pit, And his life to the executioners. その魂は墓に近づき、その命は滅ぼす者に近づく。
33 23 "If there is a messenger for him, A mediator, one among a thousand, To show man His uprightness, もしそこに彼のためにひとりの天使があり、／千のうちのひとりであって、仲保となり、／人にその正しい道を示すならば、
33 24 Then He is gracious to him, and says, 'Deliver him from going down to the Pit; I have found a ransom'; 神は彼をあわれんで言われる、／『彼を救って、墓に下ることを免れさせよ、／わたしはすでにあがないしろを得た。
33 25 His flesh shall be young like a child's, He shall return to the days of his youth. 彼の肉を幼な子の肉よりもみずみずしくならせ、／彼を若い時の元気に帰らせよ』と。
33 26 He shall pray to God, and He will delight in him, He shall see His face with joy, For He restores to man His righteousness. その時、彼が神に祈るならば、神は彼を顧み、／喜びをもって、み前にいたらせ、／その救を人に告げ知らせられる。
33 27 Then he looks at men and says, 'I have sinned, and perverted what was right, And it did not profit me.' 彼は人々の前に歌って言う、／『わたしは罪を犯し、正しい事を曲げた。しかしわたしに報復がなかった。
33 28 He will redeem his soul from going down to the Pit, And his life shall see the light. 彼はわたしの魂をあがなって、／墓に下らせられなかった。わたしの命は光を見ることができる』と。
33 29 "Behold, God works all these things, Twice, in fact, three times with a man, 見よ、神はこれらすべての事を／ふたたび、みたび人に行い、
33 30 To bring back his soul from the Pit, That he may be enlightened with the light of life. その魂を墓から引き返し、／彼に命の光を見させられる。
33 31 "Give ear, Job, listen to me; Hold your peace, and I will speak. ヨブよ、耳を傾けてわたしに聞け、／黙せよ、わたしは語ろう。
33 32 If you have anything to say, answer me; Speak, for I desire to justify you. あなたがもし言うべきことがあるなら、／わたしに答えよ、／語れ、わたしはあなたを正しい者にしようと／望むからだ。
33 33 If not, listen to me; Hold your peace, and I will teach you wisdom." もし語ることがないなら、わたしに聞け、／黙せよ、わたしはあなたに知恵を教えよう」。
ヨブ記 Job 34 34
34 1 Elihu further answered and said: エリフはまた答えて言った、
34 2 "Hear my words, you wise men; Give ear to me, you who have knowledge. 「あなたがた知恵ある人々よ、わたしの言葉を聞け、／あなたがた知識ある人々よ、わたしに耳を傾けよ。
34 3 For the ear tests words As the palate tastes food. 口が食物を味わうように、／耳は言葉をわきまえるからだ。
34 4 Let us choose justice for ourselves; Let us know among ourselves what is good. われわれは正しい事を選び、／われわれの間に良い事の／何であるかを明らかにしよう。
34 5 "For Job has said, 'I am righteous, But God has taken away my justice; ヨブは言った、『わたしは正しい、／神はわたしの公義を奪われた。
34 6Should I lie concerning my right? My wound is incurable, though I am without transgression.' わたしは正しいにもかかわらず、偽る者とされた。わたしにはとががないけれども、／わたしの矢傷はいえない』と。
34 7 What man is like Job, Who drinks scorn like water, だれかヨブのような人があろう。彼はあざけりを水のように飲み、
34 8 Who goes in company with the workers of iniquity, And walks with wicked men? 悪をなす者どもと交わり、悪人と共に歩む。
34 9 For he has said, 'It profits a man nothing That he should delight in God.' 彼は言った、『人は神と親しんでも、／なんの益もない』と。
34 10 "Therefore listen to me, you men of understanding: Far be it from God to do wickedness, And from the Almighty to commit iniquity. それであなたがた理解ある人々よ、わたしに聞け、／神は断じて悪を行うことなく、／全能者は断じて不義を行うことはない。
34 11 For He repays man according to his work, And makes man to find a reward according to his way. 神は人のわざにしたがってその身に報い、／おのおのの道にしたがって、／その身に振りかからせられる。
34 12Surely God will never do wickedly, Nor will the Almighty pervert justice. まことに神は悪しき事を行われない。全能者はさばきをまげられない。
34 13 Who gave Him charge over the earth? Or who appointed Him over the whole world? だれかこの地を彼にゆだねた者があるか。だれか全世界を彼に負わせた者があるか。
34 14 If He should set His heart on it, If He should gather to Himself His Spirit and His breath, 神がもしその霊をご自分に取りもどし、／その息をご自分に取りあつめられるならば、
34 15 All flesh would perish together, And man would return to dust. すべての肉は共に滅び、／人はちりに帰るであろう。
34 16 "If you have understanding, hear this; Listen to the sound of my words: もし、あなたに悟りがあるならば、これを聞け、／わたしの言うところに耳を傾けよ。
34 17 Should one who hates justice govern? Will you condemn Him who is most just? 公義を憎む者は世を治めることができようか。正しく力ある者を、あなたは非難するであろうか。
34 18 Is it fitting to say to a king, 'You are worthless,' And to nobles, 'You are wicked'? 王たる者に向かって『よこしまな者』と言い、／つかさたる者に向かって、『悪しき者』と／言うことができるであろうか。
34 19 Yet He is not partial to princes, Nor does He regard the rich more than the poor; For they are all the work of His hands. 神は君たる者をもかたより見られることなく、／富める者を貧しき者にまさって／顧みられることはない。彼らは皆み手のわざだからである。
34 20In a moment they die, in the middle of the night; The people are shaken and pass away; The mighty are taken away without a hand. 彼らはまたたく間に死に、／民は夜の間に振われて、消えうせ、／力ある者も人手によらずに除かれる。
34 21 "For His eyes are on the ways of man, And He sees all his steps. 神の目が人の道の上にあって、／そのすべての歩みを見られるからだ。
34 22 There is no darkness nor shadow of death Where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves. 悪を行う者には身を隠すべき暗やみもなく、／暗黒もない。
34 23 For He need not further consider a man, That he should go before God in judgment. 人がさばきのために神の前に出るとき、／神は人のために時を定めておかれない。
34 24 He breaks in pieces mighty men without inquiry, And sets others in their place. 彼は力ある者をも調べることなく打ち滅ぼし、／他の人々を立てて、これに替えられる。

34 32 Teach me what I do not see; If I have done iniquity, I will do no more'? わたしの見ないものをわたしに教えられたい。もしわたしが悪い事をしたなら、／重ねてこれをしない』と。
34 33 Should He repay it according to your terms, Just because you disavow it? You must choose, and not I; Therefore speak what you know. あなたが拒むゆえに、／彼はあなたの好むように報いをされるであろうか。あなたみずから選ぶがよい、わたしはしない。あなたの知るところを言いなさい。

36 1 Elihu also proceeded and said: エリフは重ねて言った、
36 2 "Bear with me a little, and I will show you That there are yet words to speak on God's behalf. 「しばらく待て、わたしはあなたに示すことがある。なお神のために言うべき事がある。
36 3 I will fetch my knowledge from afar; I will ascribe righteousness to my Maker. わたしは遠くからわが知識を取り、／わが造り主に正義を帰する。
36 4 For truly my words are not false; One who is perfect in knowledge is with you. まことにわたしの言葉は偽らない。知識の全き者があなたと共にいる。
36 5 "Behold, God is mighty, but despises no one; He is mighty in strength of understanding. 見よ、神は力ある者であるが、／何をも卑しめられない、／その悟りの力は大きい。
36 6 He does not preserve the life of the wicked, But gives justice to the oppressed. 彼は悪しき者を生かしておかれない、／苦しむ者のためにさばきを行われる。
36 7 He does not withdraw His eyes from the righteous; But they are on the throne with kings, For He has seated them forever, And they are exalted. 彼は正しい者から目を離さず、／位にある王たちと共に、とこしえに、／彼らをすわらせて、尊くされる。
36 8 And if they are bound in fetters, Held in the cords of affliction, もし彼らが足かせにつながれ、／悩みのなわに捕えられる時は、

36 24 "Remember to magnify His work, Of which men have sung. 神のみわざをほめたたえる事を忘れてはならない。これは人々の歌いあがめるところである。
36 25 Everyone has seen it; Man looks on it from afar. すべての人はこれを仰ぎ見る。人は遠くからこれを見るにすぎない。
36 26 "Behold, God is great, and we do not know Him; Nor can the number of His years be discovered. 見よ、神は大いなる者にいまして、／われわれは彼を知らない。その年の数も計り知ることができない。
36 27 For He draws up drops of water, Which distill as rain from the mist, 彼は水のしたたりを引きあげ、／その霧をしたたらせて雨とされる。
36 28 Which the clouds drop down And pour abundantly on man. 空はこれを降らせて、人の上に豊かに注ぐ。
36 29 Indeed, can anyone understand the spreading of clouds, The thunder from His canopy? だれか雲の広がるわけと、／その幕屋のとどろくわけとを／悟ることができようか。
36 30 Look, He scatters his light upon it, And covers the depths of the sea. 見よ、彼はその光をおのれのまわりにひろげ、／また海の底をおおわれる。
36 31 For by these He judges the peoples; He gives food in abundance. 彼はこれらをもって民をさばき、／食物を豊かに賜い、
36 32 He covers His hands with lightning, And commands it to strike. いなずまをもってもろ手を包み、／これに命じて敵を打たせられる。
36 33 His thunder declares it, The cattle also, concerning the rising storm. そのとどろきは、／悪にむかって怒りに燃える彼を現す。

37 1 "At this also my heart trembles, And leaps from its place. これがためにわが心もまたわななき、／その所からとび離れる。
37 2 Hear attentively the thunder of His voice, And the rumbling that comes from His mouth. 聞け、神の声のとどろきを、／またその口から出るささやきを。
37 3 He sends it forth under the whole heaven, His lightning to the ends of the earth. 彼はこれを天が下に放ち、／その光を地のすみずみまで至らせられる。
37 4 After it a voice roars; He thunders with His majestic voice, And He does not restrain them when His voice is heard. その後、声とどろき、／彼はそのいかめしい声をもって鳴り渡られる。その声の聞える時、／彼はいなずまを引きとめられない。

37 22 He comes from the north as golden splendor; With God is awesome majesty. 北から黄金のような輝きがでてくる。神には恐るべき威光がある。

38 3Now prepare yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer Me. あなたは腰に帯して、男らしくせよ。わたしはあなたに尋ねる、わたしに答えよ。
38 4 "Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding. わたしが地の基をすえた時、どこにいたか。もしあなたが知っているなら言え。
38 5 Who determined its measurements? Surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it? あなたがもし知っているなら、／だれがその度量を定めたか。だれが測りなわを地の上に張ったか。
38 6 To what were its foundations fastened? Or who laid its cornerstone, その土台は何の上に置かれたか。その隅の石はだれがすえたか。
38 7 When the morning stars sang together, And all the sons of God shouted for joy? かの時には明けの星は相共に歌い、／神の子たちはみな喜び呼ばわった。
38 8 "Or who shut in the sea with doors, When it burst forth and issued from the womb; 海の水が流れいで、胎内からわき出たとき、／だれが戸をもって、これを閉じこめたか。
38 9 When I made the clouds its garment, And thick darkness its swaddling band; あの時、わたしは雲をもって衣とし、／黒雲をもってむつきとし、
38 10 When I fixed My limit for it, And set bars and doors; これがために境を定め、／関および戸を設けて、
38 11 When I said, 'This far you may come, but no farther, And here your proud waves must stop!' 言った、『ここまで来てもよい、越えてはならぬ、／おまえの高波はここにとどまるのだ』と。
38 12"Have you commanded the morning since your days began, And caused the dawn to know its place, あなたは生れた日からこのかた朝に命じ、／夜明けにその所を知らせ、

38 16"Have you entered the springs of the sea? Or have you walked in search of the depths? あなたは海の源に行ったことがあるか。淵の底を歩いたことがあるか。

38 27 To satisfy the desolate waste, And cause to spring forth the growth of tender grass? 荒れすたれた地をあき足らせ、／これに若草をはえさせるか。
38 28 Has the rain a father? Or who has begotten the drops of dew? 雨に父があるか。露の玉はだれが生んだか。
38 29 From whose womb comes the ice? And the frost of heaven, who gives it birth? 氷はだれの胎から出たか。空の霜はだれが生んだか。
38 30 The waters harden like stone, And the surface of the deep is frozen. 水は固まって石のようになり、淵のおもては凍る。
38 31 "Can you bind the cluster of the Pleiades, Or loose the belt of Orion? あなたはプレアデスの鎖を結ぶことができるか。オリオンの綱を解くことができるか。

42 4 Listen, please, and let me speak; You said, 'I will question you, and you shall answer Me.' 『聞け、わたしは語ろう、／わたしはあなたに尋ねる、わたしに答えよ』。
42 5 "I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear, But now my eye sees You. わたしはあなたの事を耳で聞いていましたが、／今はわたしの目であなたを拝見いたします。
42 6 Therefore I abhor myself, And repent in dust and ashes." それでわたしはみずから恨み、／ちり灰の中で悔います」。

42 11 Then all his brothers, all his sisters, and all those who had been his acquaintances before, came to him and ate food with him in his house; and they consoled him and comforted him for all the adversity that the Lord had brought upon him.
