1	1 After the death of Moses the servant of the Lord, it came to pass that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses' assistant, saying:	主のしもべモーセが死んだ後、主はモーセの従者、ヌンの子ヨシュアに言われた、
1	2 "Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I am giving to them--the children of Israel.	「わたしのしもべモーセは死んだ。それゆえ、今あなたと、このすべての民とは、共に立って、このヨルダンを渡り、わたしがイスラエルの人々に与える地に行きなさい。
1	3 Every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you, as I said to Moses.	あなたがたが、足の裏で踏む所はみな、わたしがモーセに約束したように、あなたがたに与えるであろう。
1	4 From the wilderness and this Lebanon as far as the great river, the River Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and to the Great Sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your territory.	あなたがたの領域は、荒野からレバノンに及び、また大川ユフラテからヘテびとの全地にわたり、日の入る方の大海に達するであろう。
1	5 No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you.	あなたが生きながらえる日の間、あなたに当ることのできる者は、ひとりもないであろう。わたしは、モーセと共にいたように、あなたと共におるであろう。わたしはあなたを見放すことも、見捨てることもしない。
1	6 Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.	強く、また雄々しくあれ。あなたはこの民に、わたしが彼らに与えると、その先祖たちに誓った地を獲させなければならない。
1	7 Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.	ただ強く、また雄々しくあって、わたしのしもべモーセがあなたに命じた律法をことごとく守って行い、これを離れて右にも左にも曲ってはならない。それはすべてあなたが行くところで、勝利を得るためである。
1	8 This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.	この律法の書をあなたの口から離すことなく、昼も夜もそれを思い、そのうちにしるされていることを、ことごとく守って行わなければならない。そうするならば、あなたの道は栄え、あなたは勝利を得るであろう。
1	9 Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."	わたしはあなたに命じたではないか。強く、また雄々しくあれ。あなたがどこへ行くにも、あなたの神、主が共におられるゆえ、恐れてはならない、おののいてはならない」。
1	10 Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying,	そこでヨシュアは民のつかさたちに命じて言った、
1	11 "Pass through the camp and command the people, saying, 'Prepare provisions for yourselves, for within three days you will cross over this Jordan, to go in to possess the land which the Lord your God is giving you to possess.' "	「宿営のなかを巡って民に命じて言いなさい、『糧食の備えをしなさい。三日のうちに、あなたがたはこのヨルダンを渡って、あなたがたの神、主があなたがたに与えて獲させようとされる地を獲るために、進み行かなければならないからである』」。
1	12 And to the Reubenites, the Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh Joshua spoke, saying,	ヨシュアはまたルベンびと、ガドびと、およびマナセの半部族に言った、

1	14 Your wives, your little ones, and your livestock shall remain in the land which Moses gave you on this side of the Jordan. 2	1 Now Joshua the son of Nun sent out two men from Acacia Grove to spy secretly, saying, "Go, view the land, especially Jericho." 2	10 For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were on the other side of the Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed.	あなたがたがエジプトから出てこられた時、主があなたがたの前で紅海の水を干されたこと、およびあなたがたが、ヨルダンの向こう側にいたアモリびとのふたりの王シホンとオグにされたこと、すなわちふたりを、全滅されたことを、わたしたちは聞いたからです。
2	11 And as soon as we heard these things, our hearts melted; neither did there remain any more courage in anyone because of you, for the Lord your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath.	わたしたちはそれを聞くと、心は消え、あなたがたのゆえに人々は全く勇気を失ってしまいました。あなたがたの神、主は上の天にも、下の地にも、神でいらせられるからです。
2	12 Now therefore, I beg you, swear to me by the Lord, since I have shown you kindness, that you also will show kindness to my father's house, and give me a true token,	それで、どうか、わたしがあなたがたを親切に扱ったように、あなたがたも、わたしの父の家を親切に扱われることをいま主をさして誓い、確かなしるしをください。

2	14 So the men answered her, "Our lives for yours, if none of you tell this business of ours. 2	15 Then she let them down by a rope through the window, for her house was on the city wall; she dwelt on the wall.	そこでラハブは綱をもって彼らを窓からつりおろした。その家が町の城壁の上に建っていて、彼女はその城壁の上に住んでいたからである。
2	16 And she said to them, "Get to the mountain, lest the pursuers meet you. Hide there three days, until the pursuers have returned. Afterward you may go your way."	ラハブは彼らに言った、「追手に会わないように、あなたがたは山へ行って、三日の間そこに身を隠し、追手の帰って行くのを待って、それから去って行きなさい」。

2	19 So it shall be that whoever goes outside the doors of your house into the street, his blood shall be on his own head, and we will be guiltless. And whoever is with you in the house, his blood shall be on our head if a hand is laid on him.	ひとりでも家の戸口から外へ出て、血を流されることがあれば、その責めはその人自身のこうべに帰すでしょう。われわれに罪はありません。しかしあなたの家の中にいる人に手をかけて血を流すことがあれば、その責めはわれわれのこうべに帰すでしょう。

3	1 Then Joshua rose early in the morning; and they set out from Acacia Grove and came to the Jordan, he and all the children of Israel, and lodged there before they crossed over.	ヨシュアは朝早く起き、イスラエルの人々すべてとともにシッテムを出立して、ヨルダンに行き、それを渡らずに、そこに宿った。
3	2 So it was, after three days, that the officers went through the camp;	三日の後、つかさたちは宿営の中を行き巡り、
3	3 and they commanded the people, saying, "When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the priests, the Levites, bearing it, then you shall set out from your place and go after it.	民に命じて言った、「レビびとである祭司たちが、あなたがたの神、主の契約の箱をかきあげるのを見るならば、あなたがたはその所を出立して、そのあとに従わなければならない。
3	4 Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure. Do not come near it, that you may know the way by which you must go, for you have not passed this way before."	そうすれば、あなたがたは行くべき道を知ることができるであろう。あなたがたは前にこの道をとおったことがないからである。しかし、あなたがたと箱との間には、おおよそ二千キュビトの距離をおかなければならない。それに近づいてはならない」。
3	5 And Joshua said to the people, "Sanctify yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you."	ヨシュアはまた民に言った、「あなたがたは身を清めなさい。あす、主があなたがたのうちに不思議を行われるからである」。
3	6 Then Joshua spoke to the priests, saying, "Take up the ark of the covenant and cross over before the people." So they took up the ark of the covenant and went before the people.	ヨシュアは祭司たちに言った、「契約の箱をかき、民に先立って渡りなさい」。そこで彼らは契約の箱をかき、民に先立って進んだ。

3	12 Now therefore, take for yourselves twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one man from every tribe.	それゆえ、今、イスラエルの部族のうちから、部族ごとにひとりずつ、合わせて十二人を選びなさい。
3	13And it shall come to pass, as soon as the soles of the feet of the priests who bear the ark of the Lord, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, that the waters of the Jordan shall be cut off, the waters that come down from upstream, and they shall stand as a heap."	全地の主なる神の箱をかく祭司たちの足の裏が、ヨルダンの水の中に踏みとどまる時、ヨルダンの水は流れをせきとめられ、上から流れくだる水はとどまって、うず高くなるであろう」。
3	14 So it was, when the people set out from their camp to cross over the Jordan, with the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people,	こうして民はヨルダンを渡ろうとして天幕をいで立ち、祭司たちは契約の箱をかき、民に先立って行ったが、

3	16 that the waters which came down from upstream stood still, and rose in a heap very far away at Adam, the city that is beside Zaretan. So the waters that went down into the Sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, failed, and were cut off; and the people crossed over opposite Jericho.	上から流れくだる水はとどまって、はるか遠くのザレタンのかたわらにある町アダムのあたりで、うず高く立ち、アラバの海すなわち塩の海の方に流れくだる水は全くせきとめられたので、民はエリコに向かって渡った。
3	17 Then the priests who bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord stood firm on dry ground in the midst of the Jordan; and all Israel crossed over on dry ground, until all the people had crossed completely over the Jordan.	すべてのイスラエルが、かわいた地を渡って行く間、主の契約の箱をかく祭司たちは、ヨルダンの中のかわいた地に立っていた。そしてついに民はみなヨルダンを渡り終った。

4	1 And it came to pass, when all the people had completely crossed over the Jordan, that the Lord spoke to Joshua, saying:	民が皆、ヨルダンを渡り終った時、主はヨシュアに言われた、
4	2 "Take for yourselves twelve men from the people, one man from every tribe,	「民のうちから、部族ごとにひとりずつ、合わせて十二人を選び、
4	3 and command them, saying, 'Take for yourselves twelve stones from here, out of the midst of the Jordan, from the place where the priests' feet stood firm. You shall carry them over with you and leave them in the lodging place where you lodge tonight.' "	彼らに命じて言いなさい、『ヨルダンの中で祭司たちが足を踏みとどめたその所から、石十二を取り、それを携えて渡り、今夜あなたがたが宿る場所にすえなさい』」。

4	7 Then you shall answer them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord; when it crossed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. 4	8 And the children of Israel did so, just as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones from the midst of the Jordan, as the Lord had spoken to Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel, and carried them over with them to the place where they lodged, and laid them down there.	イスラエルの人々はヨシュアが命じたようにし、主がヨシュアに言われたように、イスラエルの人々の部族の数にしたがって、ヨルダンの中から十二の石を取り、それを携えて渡り、彼らの宿る場所へ行って、そこにすえた。

4	11Then it came to pass, when all the people had completely crossed over, that the ark of the Lord and the priests crossed over in the presence of the people.	民がみな渡り終った時、主の箱と祭司たちとは、民の見る前で渡った。
4	12And the men of Reuben, the men of Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh crossed over armed before the children of Israel, as Moses had spoken to them.	ルベンの子孫とガドの子孫、およびマナセの部族の半ばは、モーセが彼らに命じていたように武装して、イスラエルの人々に先立って渡り、
4	13 About forty thousand prepared for war crossed over before the Lord for battle, to the plains of Jericho.	戦いのために武装したおおよそ四万の者が戦うため、主の前に渡って、エリコの平野に着いた。

4	17Joshua therefore commanded the priests, saying, "Come up from the Jordan."	ヨシュアは祭司たちに命じて言った、「ヨルダンから上がってきなさい」。
4	18 And it came to pass, when the priests who bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord had come from the midst of the Jordan, and the soles of the priests' feet touched the dry land, that the waters of the Jordan returned to their place and overflowed all its banks as before.	主の契約の箱をかく祭司たちはヨルダンの中から上がってきたが、祭司たちの足の裏がかわいた地にあがると同時に、ヨルダンの水はもとの所に流れかえって、以前のように、その岸にことごとくあふれた。
4	19 Now the people came up from the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and they camped in Gilgal on the east border of Jericho.	民は正月の十日に、ヨルダンから上がってきて、エリコの東の境にあるギルガルに宿営した。
4	20 And those twelve stones which they took out of the Jordan, Joshua set up in Gilgal.	そしてヨシュアは、人々がヨルダンから取ってきた十二の石をギルガルに立て、
4	21 Then he spoke to the children of Israel, saying: "When your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, 'What are these stones?'	イスラエルの人々に言った、「後の日にあなたがたの子どもたちが、その父に『これらの石は、どうしたわけですか』とたずねたならば、

4	23 for the Lord your God dried up the waters of the Jordan before you until you had crossed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red Sea, which He dried up before us until we had crossed over,	すなわちあなたがたの神、主はヨルダンの水を、あなたがたのために干しからして、あなたがたを渡らせてくださった。それはあたかも、あなたがたの神、主が、われわれのために紅海を干しからして、われわれを渡らせてくださったのと同じである。
4	24 that all the peoples of the earth may know the hand of the Lord, that it is mighty, that you may fear the Lord your God forever."	このようにされたのは、地のすべての民に、主の手に力のあることを知らせ、あなたがたの神、主をつねに恐れさせるためである」。

5	1 So it was, when all the kings of the Amorites who were on the west side of the Jordan, and all the kings of the Canaanites who were by the sea, heard that the Lord had dried up the waters of the Jordan from before the children of Israel until we had crossed over, that their heart melted; and there was no spirit in them any longer because of the children of Israel.	ヨルダンの向こう側、すなわち西の方におるアモリびとの王たちと、海べにおるカナンびとの王たちとは皆、主がイスラエルの人々の前で、ヨルダンの水を干しからして、彼らを渡らせられたと聞いて、イスラエルの人々のゆえに、心は消え、彼らのうちに、もはや元気もなくなった。
5	2 At that time the Lord said to Joshua, "Make flint knives for yourself, and circumcise the sons of Israel again the second time."	その時、主はヨシュアに言われた、「火打石の小刀を造り、重ねてまたイスラエルの人々に割礼を行いなさい」。
5	3 So Joshua made flint knives for himself, and circumcised the sons of Israel at the hill of the foreskins.	そこでヨシュアは火打石の小刀を造り、陽皮の丘で、イスラエルの人々に割礼を行った。
5	4 And this is the reason why Joshua circumcised them: All the people who came out of Egypt who were males, all the men of war, had died in the wilderness on the way, after they had come out of Egypt.	ヨシュアが人々に割礼を行った理由はこうである。エジプトから出てきた民のうちの、すべての男子、すなわち、いくさびとたちは皆、エジプトを出た後、途中、荒野で死んだが、
5	5 For all the people who came out had been circumcised, but all the people born in the wilderness, on the way as they came out of Egypt, had not been circumcised.	その出てきた民は皆、割礼を受けた者であった。しかし、エジプトを出た後に、途中、荒野で生まれた民は、みな割礼を受けていなかった。
5	6 For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the people who were men of war, who came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they did not obey the voice of the Lord--to whom the Lord swore that He would not show them the land which the Lord had sworn to their fathers that He would give us, "a land flowing with milk and honey."	イスラエルの人々は四十年の間、荒野を歩いていて、そのエジプトから出てきた民、すなわち、いくさびとたちは、みな死に絶えた。これは彼らが主の声に聞き従わなかったので、主は彼らの先祖たちに誓って、われわれに与えると仰せられた地、乳と蜜の流れる地を、彼らに見させないと誓われたからである。
5	7 Then Joshua circumcised their sons whom He raised up in their place; for they were uncircumcised, because they had not been circumcised on the way.	ヨシュアが割礼を行ったのは、この人々についで起されたその子どもたちであった。彼らは途中で割礼を受けていなかったので、無割礼の者であったからである。
5	8 So it was, when they had finished circumcising all the people, that they stayed in their places in the camp till they were healed.	すべての民に割礼を行うことが終ったので、民は宿営のうちの自分の所にとどまって傷の直るのを待った。
5	9 Then the Lord said to Joshua, "This day I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you." Therefore the name of the place is called Gilgal to this day.	その時、主はヨシュアに言われた、「きょう、わたしはエジプトのはずかしめを、あなたがたからころがし去った」。それでその所の名は、今日までギルガルと呼ばれている。
5	10 Now the children of Israel camped in Gilgal, and kept the Passover on the fourteenth day of the month at twilight on the plains of Jericho.	イスラエルの人々はギルガルに宿営していたが、その月の十四日の夕暮、エリコの平野で過越の祭を行った。
5	11 And they ate of the produce of the land on the day after the Passover, unleavened bread and parched grain, on the very same day.	そして過越の祭の翌日、その地の穀物、すなわち種入れぬパンおよびいり麦を、その日に食べたが、
5	12 Then the manna ceased on the day after they had eaten the produce of the land; and the children of Israel no longer had manna, but they ate the food of the land of Canaan that year.	その地の穀物を食べた翌日から、マナの降ることはやみ、イスラエルの人々は、もはやマナを獲なかった。その年はカナンの地の産物を食べた。
5	13 And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, a Man stood opposite him with His sword drawn in His hand. And Joshua went to Him and said to Him, "Are You for us or for our adversaries?"	ヨシュアがエリコの近くにいたとき、目を上げて見ると、ひとりの人が抜き身のつるぎを手に持ち、こちらに向かって立っていたので、ヨシュアはその人のところへ行って言った、「あなたはわれわれを助けるのですか。それともわれわれの敵を助けるのですか」。
5	14 So He said, "No, but as Commander of the army of the Lord I have now come." And Joshua fell on his face to the earth and worshiped, and said to Him, "What does my Lord say to His servant?"	彼は言った、「いや、わたしは主の軍勢の将として今きたのだ」。ヨシュアは地にひれ伏し拝して言った、「わが主は何をしもべに告げようとされるのですか」。
5	15 Then the Commander of the Lord's army said to Joshua, "Take your sandal off your foot, for the place where you stand is holy." And Joshua did so.	すると主の軍勢の将はヨシュアに言った、「あなたの足のくつを脱ぎなさい。あなたが立っている所は聖なる所である」。ヨシュアはそのようにした。

6	1 Now Jericho was securely shut up because of the children of Israel; none went out, and none came in.	さてエリコは、イスラエルの人々のゆえに、かたく閉ざして、出入りするものがなかった。
6	2 And the Lord said to Joshua: "See! I have given Jericho into your hand, its king, and the mighty men of valor.	主はヨシュアに言われた、「見よ、わたしはエリコと、その王および大勇士を、あなたの手にわたしている。
6	3 You shall march around the city, all you men of war; you shall go all around the city once. This you shall do six days.	あなたがた、いくさびとはみな、町を巡って、町の周囲を一度回らなければならない。六日の間そのようにしなければならない。
6	4 And seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark. But the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets.	七人の祭司たちは、おのおの雄羊の角のラッパを携えて、箱に先立たなければならない。そして七日目には七度町を巡り、祭司たちはラッパを吹き鳴らさなければならない。
6	5 It shall come to pass, when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, that all the people shall shout with a great shout; then the wall of the city will fall down flat. And the people shall go up every man straight before him."	そして祭司たちが雄羊の角を長く吹き鳴らし、そのラッパの音が、あなたがたに聞える時、民はみな大声に呼ばわり、叫ばなければならない。そうすれば、町の周囲の石がきは、くずれ落ち、民はみなただちに進んで、攻め上ることができる」。
6	6 Then Joshua the son of Nun called the priests and said to them, "Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of the Lord."	ヌンの子ヨシュアは祭司たちを召して言った、「あなたがたは契約の箱をかき、七人の祭司たちは雄羊の角のラッパ七本を携えて、主の箱に先立たなければならない」。
6	7 And he said to the people, "Proceed, and march around the city, and let him who is armed advance before the ark of the Lord."	そして民に言った、「あなたがたは進んで行って町を巡りなさい。武装した者は主の箱に先立って進まなければならない」。
6	8 So it was, when Joshua had spoken to the people, that the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams' horns before the Lord advanced and blew the trumpets, and the ark of the covenant of the Lord followed them.	ヨシュアが民に命じたように、七人の祭司たちは、雄羊の角のラッパ七本を携えて、主に先立って進み、ラッパを吹き鳴らした。主の契約の箱はそのあとに従った。
6	9 The armed men went before the priests who blew the trumpets, and the rear guard came after the ark, while the priests continued blowing the trumpets.	武装した者はラッパを吹き鳴らす祭司たちに先立って行き、しんがりは箱に従った。ラッパは絶え間なく鳴り響いた。
6	10 Now Joshua had commanded the people, saying, "You shall not shout or make any noise with your voice, nor shall a word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I say to you, 'Shout!' Then you shall shout."	しかし、ヨシュアは民に命じて言った、「あなたがたは呼ばわってはならない。あなたがたの声を聞えさせてはならない。また口から言葉を出してはならない。ただ、わたしが呼ばわれと命じる日に、あなたがたは呼ばわらなければならない」。
6	11 So he had the ark of the Lord circle the city, going around it once. Then they came into the camp and lodged in the camp.	こうして主の箱を持って、町を巡らせ、その周囲を一度回らせた。人々は宿営に帰り、夜を宿営で過ごした。
6	12 And Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of the Lord.	翌朝ヨシュアは早く起き、祭司たちは主の箱をかき、
6	13 Then seven priests bearing seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of the Lord went on continually and blew with the trumpets. And the armed men went before them. But the rear guard came after the ark of the Lord, while the priests continued blowing the trumpets.	七人の祭司たちは、雄羊の角のラッパ七本を携えて、主の箱に先立ち、絶えず、ラッパを吹き鳴らして進み、武装した者はこれに先立って行き、しんがりは主の箱に従った。ラッパは絶え間なく鳴り響いた。
6	14 And the second day they marched around the city once and returned to the camp. So they did six days.	その次の日にも、町の周囲を一度巡って宿営に帰った。六日の間そのようにした。
6	15 But it came to pass on the seventh day that they rose early, about the dawning of the day, and marched around the city seven times in the same manner. On that day only they marched around the city seven times.	七日目には、夜明けに、早く起き、同じようにして、町を七度めぐった。町を七度めぐったのはこの日だけであった。
6	16 And the seventh time it happened, when the priests blew the trumpets, that Joshua said to the people: "Shout, for the Lord has given you the city!	七度目に、祭司たちがラッパを吹いた時、ヨシュアは民に言った、「呼ばわりなさい。主はこの町をあなたがたに賜わった。
6	17 Now the city shall be doomed by the Lord to destruction, it and all who are in it. Only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all who are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent.	この町と、その中のすべてのものは、主への奉納物として滅ぼされなければならない。ただし遊女ラハブと、その家に共におる者はみな生かしておかなければならない。われわれが送った使者たちをかくまったからである。
6	18 And you, by all means abstain from the accursed things, lest you become accursed when you take of the accursed things, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it.	また、あなたがたは、奉納物に手を触れてはならない。奉納に当り、その奉納物をみずから取って、イスラエルの宿営を、滅ぼさるべきものとし、それを悩ますことのないためである。
6	19 But all the silver and gold, and vessels of bronze and iron, are consecrated to the Lord; they shall come into the treasury of the Lord."	ただし、銀と金、青銅と鉄の器は、みな主に聖なる物であるから、主の倉に携え入れなければならない」。
6	20 So the people shouted when the priests blew the trumpets. And it happened when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat. Then the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.	そこで民は呼ばわり、祭司たちはラッパを吹き鳴らした。民はラッパの音を聞くと同時に、みな大声をあげて呼ばわったので、石がきはくずれ落ちた。そこで民はみな、すぐに上って町にはいり、町を攻め取った。
6	21 And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, young and old, ox and sheep and donkey, with the edge of the sword.	そして町にあるものは、男も、女も、若い者も、老いた者も、また牛、羊、ろばをも、ことごとくつるぎにかけて滅ぼした。
6	22 But Joshua had said to the two men who had spied out the country, "Go into the harlot's house, and from there bring out the woman and all that she has, as you swore to her."	その時ヨシュアは、この地を探ったふたりの人に言った、「あの遊女の家にはいって、その女と彼女に属するすべてのものを連れ出し、彼女に誓ったようにしなさい」。
6	23 And the young men who had been spies went in and brought out Rahab, her father, her mother, her brothers, and all that she had. So they brought out all her relatives and left them outside the camp of Israel.	斥候となったその若い人たちははいって、ラハブとその父母、兄弟、そのほか彼女に属するすべてのものを連れ出し、その親族をみな連れ出して、イスラエルの宿営の外に置いた。
6	24 But they burned the city and all that was in it with fire. Only the silver and gold, and the vessels of bronze and iron, they put into the treasury of the house of the Lord.	そして火で町とその中のすべてのものを焼いた。ただ、銀と金、青銅と鉄の器は、主の家の倉に納めた。
6	25 And Joshua spared Rahab the harlot, her father's household, and all that she had. So she dwells in Israel to this day, because she hid the messengers whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.	しかし、遊女ラハブとその父の家の一族と彼女に属するすべてのものとは、ヨシュアが生かしておいたので、ラハブは今日までイスラエルのうちに住んでいる。これはヨシュアがエリコを探らせるためにつかわした使者たちをかくまったためである。
6	26 Then Joshua charged them at that time, saying, "Cursed be the man before the Lord who rises up and builds this city Jericho; he shall lay its foundation with his firstborn, and with his youngest he shall set up its gates."	ヨシュアは、その時、人々に誓いを立てて言った、「おおよそ立って、このエリコの町を再建する人は、主の前にのろわれるであろう。その礎をすえる人は長子を失い、／その門を建てる人は末の子を失うであろう」。
6	27 So the Lord was with Joshua, and his fame spread throughout all the country.	主はヨシュアと共におられ、ヨシュアの名声は、あまねくその地に広がった。

7	1 But the children of Israel committed a trespass regarding the accursed things, for Achan the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the accursed things; so the anger of the Lord burned against the children of Israel.	しかし、イスラエルの人々は奉納物について罪を犯した。すなわちユダの部族のうちの、ゼラの子ザブデの子であるカルミの子アカンが奉納物を取ったのである。それで主はイスラエルの人々にむかって怒りを発せられた。
7	2 Now Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Beth Aven, on the east side of Bethel, and spoke to them, saying, "Go up and spy out the country." So the men went up and spied out Ai.	ヨシュアはエリコから人々をつかわし、ベテルの東、ベテアベンの近くにあるアイに行かせようとして、その人々に言った、「上って行って、かの地を探ってきなさい」。人々は上って行って、アイを探ったが、
7	3 And they returned to Joshua and said to him, "Do not let all the people go up, but let about two or three thousand men go up and attack Ai. Do not weary all the people there, for the people of Ai are few."	ヨシュアのもとに帰ってきて言った、「民をことごとく行かせるには及びません。ただ二、三千人を上らせて、アイを撃たせなさい。彼らは少ないのですから、民をことごとくあそこへやってほねおりをさせるには及びません」。
7	4 So about three thousand men went up there from the people, but they fled before the men of Ai.	そこで民のうち、おおよそ三千人がそこに上ったが、ついにアイの人々の前から逃げ出した。
7	5 And the men of Ai struck down about thirty-six men, for they chased them from before the gate as far as Shebarim, and struck them down on the descent; therefore the hearts of the people melted and became like water.	アイの人々は彼らのうち、おおよそ三十六人を殺し、更に彼らを門の前からシバリムまで追って、下り坂で彼らを殺したので、民の心は消えて水のようになった。
7	6 Then Joshua tore his clothes, and fell to the earth on his face before the ark of the Lord until evening, he and the elders of Israel; and they put dust on their heads.	そのためヨシュアは衣服を裂き、イスラエルの長老たちと共に、主の箱の前で、夕方まで地にひれ伏し、ちりをかぶった。
7	7 And Joshua said, "Alas, Lord God, why have You brought this people over the Jordan at all--to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? Oh, that we had been content, and dwelt on the other side of the Jordan!	ヨシュアは言った、「ああ、主なる神よ、あなたはなにゆえ、この民にヨルダンを渡らせ、われわれをアモリびとの手に渡して滅ぼさせられるのですか。われわれはヨルダンの向こうに、安んじてとどまればよかったのです。
7	8 O Lord, what shall I say when Israel turns its back before its enemies?	ああ、主よ。イスラエルがすでに敵に背をむけた今となって、わたしはまた何を言い得ましょう。
7	9 For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear it, and surround us, and cut off our name from the earth. Then what will You do for Your great name?"	カナンびと、およびこの地に住むすべてのものは、これを聞いて、われわれを攻めかこみ、われわれの名を地から断ち去ってしまうでしょう。それであなたは、あなたの大いなる名のために、何をしようとされるのですか」。
7	10 So the Lord said to Joshua: "Get up! Why do you lie thus on your face?	主はヨシュアに言われた、「立ちなさい。あなたはどうして、そのようにひれ伏しているのか。
7	11 Israel has sinned, and they have also transgressed My covenant which I commanded them. For they have even taken some of the accursed things, and have both stolen and deceived; and they have also put it among their own stuff.	イスラエルは罪を犯し、わたしが彼らに命じておいた契約を破った。彼らは奉納物を取り、盗み、かつ偽って、それを自分の所有物のうちに入れた。
7	12 Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies, because they have become doomed to destruction. Neither will I be with you anymore, unless you destroy the accursed from among you.	それでイスラエルの人々は敵に当ることができず、敵に背をむけた。彼らも滅ぼされるべきものとなったからである。あなたがたが、その滅ぼされるべきものを、あなたがたのうちから滅ぼし去るのでなければ、わたしはもはやあなたがたとは共にいないであろう。
7	13 Get up, sanctify the people, and say, 'Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow, because thus says the Lord God of Israel: "There is an accursed thing in your midst, O Israel; you cannot stand before your enemies until you take away the accursed thing from among you."	立って、民を清めて言いなさい、『あなたがたは身を清めて、あすのために備えなさい。イスラエルの神、主はこう仰せられる、「イスラエルよ、あなたがたのうちに、滅ぼされるべきものがある。その滅ぼされるべきものを、あなたがたのうちから除き去るまでは、敵に当ることはできないであろう」。
7	14 In the morning therefore you shall be brought according to your tribes. And it shall be that the tribe which the Lord takes shall come according to families; and the family which the Lord takes shall come by households; and the household which the Lord takes shall come man by man.	それゆえ、あすの朝、あなたがたは部族ごとに進み出なければならない。そして主がくじを当てられる部族は、氏族ごとに進みいで、主がくじを当てられる氏族は、家族ごとに進みいで、主がくじを当てられる家族は、男ひとりびとり進み出なければならない。
7	15 Then it shall be that he who is taken with the accursed thing shall be burned with fire, he and all that he has, because he has transgressed the covenant of the Lord, and because he has done a disgraceful thing in Israel.' "	そしてその滅ぼされるべきものを持っていて、くじを当てられた者は、その持ち物全部と共に、火で焼かれなければならない。主の契約を破りイスラエルのうちに愚かなことを行ったからである』」。
7	16 So Joshua rose early in the morning and brought Israel by their tribes, and the tribe of Judah was taken.	こうしてヨシュアは朝早く起き、イスラエルを部族ごとに進み出させたところ、ユダの部族がくじに当り、
7	17 He brought the clan of Judah, and he took the family of the Zarhites; and he brought the family of the Zarhites man by man, and Zabdi was taken.	ユダのもろもろの氏族を進み出させたところ、ゼラびとの氏族が、くじに当った。ゼラびとの氏族を家族ごとに進み出させたところ、ザブデの家族が、くじに当った。
7	18 Then he brought his household man by man, and Achan the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was taken.	ザブデの家族を男ひとりびとり進み出させたところ、アカンがくじに当った。アカンはユダの部族のうちの、ゼラの子、ザブデの子なるカルミの子である。
7	19 Now Joshua said to Achan, "My son, I beg you, give glory to the Lord God of Israel, and make confession to Him, and tell me now what you have done; do not hide it from me."	その時ヨシュアはアカンに言った、「わが子よ、イスラエルの神、主に栄光を帰し、また主をさんびし、あなたのしたことを今わたしに告げなさい。わたしに隠してはならない」。
7	20 And Achan answered Joshua and said, "Indeed I have sinned against the Lord God of Israel, and this is what I have done:	アカンはヨシュアに答えた、「ほんとうにわたしはイスラエルの神、主に対して罪を犯しました。わたしがしたのはこうです。
7	21 "When I saw among the spoils a beautiful Babylonian garment, two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold weighing fifty shekels, I coveted them and took them. And there they are, hidden in the earth in the midst of my tent, with the silver under it."	わたしはぶんどり物のうちに、シナルの美しい外套一枚と銀二百シケルと、目方五十シケルの金の延べ棒一本のあるのを見て、ほしくなり、それを取りました。わたしの天幕の中に、地に隠してあります。銀はその下にあります」。
7	22 So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent; and there it was, hidden in his tent, with the silver under it.	そこでヨシュアは使者たちをつかわした。使者たちが天幕に走っていって見ると、それは彼の天幕に隠してあって、銀もその下にあった。
7	23 And they took them from the midst of the tent, brought them to Joshua and to all the children of Israel, and laid them out before the Lord.	彼らはそれを天幕の中から取り出して、ヨシュアとイスラエルのすべての人々の所に携えてきたので、それを主の前に置いた。
7	24 Then Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, the silver, the garment, the wedge of gold, his sons, his daughters, his oxen, his donkeys, his sheep, his tent, and all that he had, and they brought them to the Valley of Achor.	ヨシュアはすべてのイスラエルびとと共に、ゼラの子アカンを捕え、かの銀と外套と金の延べ棒、および彼のむすこ、娘、牛、ろば、羊、天幕など、彼の持ち物をことごとく取って、アコルの谷へ引いていった。
7	25 And Joshua said, "Why have you troubled us? The Lord will trouble you this day." So all Israel stoned him with stones; and they burned them with fire after they had stoned them with stones.	そしてヨシュアは言った、「なぜあなたはわれわれを悩ましたのか。主は、きょう、あなたを悩まされるであろう」。やがてすべてのイスラエルびとは石で彼を撃ち殺し、また彼の家族をも石で撃ち殺し、火をもって焼いた。
7	26 Then they raised over him a great heap of stones, still there to this day. So the Lord turned from the fierceness of His anger. Therefore the name of that place has been called the Valley of Achor to this day.	そしてアカンの上に石塚を大きく積み上げたが、それは今日まで残っている。そして主は激しい怒りをやめられたが、このことによって、その所の名は今日までアコルの谷と呼ばれている。

8	1 Now the Lord said to Joshua: "Do not be afraid, nor be dismayed; take all the people of war with you, and arise, go up to Ai. See, I have given into your hand the king of Ai, his people, his city, and his land.	主はヨシュアに言われた、「恐れてはならない、おののいてはならない。いくさびとを皆、率い、立って、アイに攻め上りなさい。わたしはアイの王とその民、その町、その地をあなたの手に授ける。
8	2 And you shall do to Ai and its king as you did to Jericho and its king. Only its spoil and its cattle you shall take as booty for yourselves. Lay an ambush for the city behind it."	あなたは、さきにエリコとその王にしたとおり、アイとその王とにしなければならない。ただし、ぶんどり物と家畜とは戦利品としてあなたがたのものとすることができるであろう。あなたはまず、町のうしろに伏兵を置きなさい」。
8	3 So Joshua arose, and all the people of war, to go up against Ai; and Joshua chose thirty thousand mighty men of valor and sent them away by night.	ヨシュアは立って、すべてのいくさびとと共に、アイに攻め上ろうとして、まず大勇士三万人を選び、それを夜のうちにつかわした。
8	4 And he commanded them, saying: "Behold, you shall lie in ambush against the city, behind the city. Do not go very far from the city, but all of you be ready.	ヨシュアは彼らに命じて言った、「あなたがたは町に向かって、町のうしろに伏せていなければならない。町を遠く離れないで、みな備えをしていなければならない。

8	7 Then you shall rise from the ambush and seize the city, for the Lord your God will deliver it into your hand.	その時、あなたがたは伏せている所から立ち上がって、町を取らなければならない。あなたがたの神、主がそれをあなたがたの手に与えられるからである。
8	8 And it will be, when you have taken the city, that you shall set the city on fire. According to the commandment of the Lord you shall do. See, I have commanded you."	あなたがたが、町を取ったならば、町に火を放ち、主が命じられたようにしなければならない。わたしはこう、あなたがたに命じるのである」。
8	9Joshua therefore sent them out; and they went to lie in ambush, and stayed between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of Ai; but Joshua lodged that night among the people.	そうしてヨシュアが彼らをつかわしたので、彼らはアイの西方、ベテルとアイの間の待ち伏せする場所に行って身を伏せた。ヨシュアはその夜、民の中に宿った。
8	10 Then Joshua rose up early in the morning and mustered the people, and went up, he and the elders of Israel, before the people to Ai.	ヨシュアは明くる朝、早く起きて、民を集め、イスラエルの長老たちと共に、民に先立って、アイに上っていった。
8	11 And all the people of war who were with him went up and drew near; and they came before the city and camped on the north side of Ai. Now a valley lay between them and Ai.	彼と共にいたいくさびとたちもみな上っていって、町の前に近づき、アイの北に陣を取った。彼らとアイの間には、一つの谷があった。
8	12 So he took about five thousand men and set them in ambush between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of the city.	ヨシュアはおおよそ五千人をとって、町の西方、ベテルとアイの間に、伏せておいた。
8	13 And when they had set the people, all the army that was on the north of the city, and its rear guard on the west of the city, Joshua went that night into the midst of the valley.	こうして民の主力を町の北におき、しんがりを町の西においた。ヨシュアはその夜、谷の中で宿った。
8	14 Now it happened, when the king of Ai saw it, that the men of the city hurried and rose early and went out against Israel to battle, he and all his people, at an appointed place before the plain. But he did not know that there was an ambush against him behind the city.	アイの王はこれを見て、すべての民と共に、急いで、早く起き、アラバに行く下り坂に進み出て、イスラエルと戦った。しかし、王は町のうしろに、すきをうかがう伏兵のおることを知らなかった。

8	16 So all the people who were in Ai were called together to pursue them. And they pursued Joshua and were drawn away from the city.	その町の民はみな呼ばわり集まって彼らのあとを追い、ヨシュアのあとを追って町からおびき出され、
8	17 There was not a man left in Ai or Bethel who did not go out after Israel. So they left the city open and pursued Israel.	アイにもベテルにも残っているものはひとりもなく、みな出てイスラエルのあとを追い、町を開け放して、イスラエルのあとを追った。
8	18 Then the Lord said to Joshua, "Stretch out the spear that is in your hand toward Ai, for I will give it into your hand." And Joshua stretched out the spear that was in his hand toward the city.	その時、主はヨシュアに言われた、「あなたの手にあるなげやりを、アイの方にさし伸べなさい。わたしはその町をあなたの手に与えるであろう」。そこでヨシュアが手にしていたなげやりを、アイの方にさし伸べると、
8	19 So those in ambush arose quickly out of their place; they ran as soon as he had stretched out his hand, and they entered the city and took it, and hurried to set the city on fire.	伏兵はたちまちその場所から立ち上がり、ヨシュアが手をのべると同時に、走って町に入り、それを取って、ただちに町に火をかけた。
8	20 And when the men of Ai looked behind them, they saw, and behold, the smoke of the city ascended to heaven. So they had no power to flee this way or that way, and the people who had fled to the wilderness turned back on the pursuers.	それでアイの人々が、うしろをふり返って見ると、町の焼ける煙が天に立ちのぼっていたので、こちらへもあちらへも逃げるすべがなかった。荒野へ逃げていった民も身をかえして、追ってきた者に迫った。
8	21 Now when Joshua and all Israel saw that the ambush had taken the city and that the smoke of the city ascended, they turned back and struck down the men of Ai.	ヨシュアとすべてのイスラエルびとは、伏兵が町を取り、町の焼ける煙が立ち上るのを見て、身をかえしてアイの人々を撃った。
8	22 Then the others came out of the city against them; so they were caught in the midst of Israel, some on this side and some on that side. And they struck them down, so that they let none of them remain or escape.	また町を取ったものは町を出て彼らに向かったので、彼らは、こちらとあちらとからイスラエルの中にはさまれた。こうしてイスラエルびとが彼らを撃ったので、生き残ったもの、逃げおおせたものは、ひとりもなかった。
8	23 But the king of Ai they took alive, and brought him to Joshua.	そしてアイの王を生けどりにして、ヨシュアのもとへ連れてきた。
8	24 And it came to pass when Israel had made an end of slaying all the inhabitants of Ai in the field, in the wilderness where they pursued them, and when they all had fallen by the edge of the sword until they were consumed, that all the Israelites returned to Ai and struck it with the edge of the sword.	イスラエルびとは、荒野に追撃してきたアイの住民をことごとく野で殺し、つるぎをもってひとりも残さず撃ち倒してのち、皆アイに帰り、つるぎをもってその町を撃ち滅ぼした。
8	25 So it was that all who fell that day, both men and women, were twelve thousand--all the people of Ai.	その日アイの人々はことごとく倒れた。その数は男女あわせて一万二千人であった。
8	26 For Joshua did not draw back his hand, with which he stretched out the spear, until he had utterly destroyed all the inhabitants of Ai.	ヨシュアはアイの住民をことごとく滅ぼしつくすまでは、なげやりをさし伸べた手を引っこめなかった。
8	27 Only the livestock and the spoil of that city Israel took as booty for themselves, according to the word of the Lord which He had commanded Joshua.	ただし、その町の家畜および、ぶんどり品はイスラエルびとが自分たちの戦利品として取った。主がヨシュアに命じられた言葉にしたがったのである。
8	28 So Joshua burned Ai and made it a heap forever, a desolation to this day.	こうしてヨシュアはアイを焼いて、永久に荒塚としたが、それは今日まで荒れ地となっている。
8	29 And the king of Ai he hanged on a tree until evening. 8	31 as Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the Book of the Law of Moses: "an altar of whole stones over which no man has wielded an iron tool." 8	32 And there, in the presence of the children of Israel, he wrote on the stones a copy of the law of Moses, which he had written.	その所で、ヨシュアはまたモーセの書きしるした律法を、イスラエルの人々の前で、石に書き写した。
8	33 Then all Israel, with their elders and officers and judges, stood on either side of the ark before the priests, the Levites, who bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord, the stranger as well as he who was born among them. Half of them were in front of Mount Gerizim and half of them in front of Mount Ebal, as Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded before, that they should bless the people of Israel.	こうしてすべてのイスラエルびとは、本国人も、寄留の他国人も、長老、つかさびと、さばきびとと共に、主の契約の箱をかくレビびとである祭司たちの前で、箱のこなたとかなたに分れて、半ばはゲリジム山の前に、半ばはエバル山の前に立った。これは主のしもべモーセがさきに命じたように、イスラエルの民を祝福するためであった。
8	34 And afterward he read all the words of the law, the blessings and the cursings, according to all that is written in the Book of the Law.	そして後、ヨシュアはすべての律法の書にしるされている所にしたがって、祝福と、のろいとに関する律法の言葉をことごとく読んだ。
8	35 There was not a word of all that Moses had commanded which Joshua did not read before all the assembly of Israel, with the women, the little ones, and the strangers who were living among them.	モーセが命じたすべての言葉のうち、ヨシュアがイスラエルの全会衆および女と子どもたち、ならびにイスラエルのうちに住む寄留の他国人の前で、読まなかったものは一つもなかった。

9	1 And it came to pass when all the kings who were on this side of the Jordan, in the hills and in the lowland and in all the coasts of the Great Sea toward Lebanon--the Hittite, the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite--heard about it,	さて、ヨルダンの西側の、山地、平地、およびレバノンまでの大海の沿岸に住むもろもろの王たち、すなわちヘテびと、アモリびと、カナンびと、ペリジびと、ヒビびと、エブスびとの王たちは、これを聞いて、

9	10 and all that He did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan--to Sihon king of Heshbon, and Og king of Bashan, who was at Ashtaroth.	また主がヨルダンの向こう側にいたアモリびとのふたりの王、すなわちヘシボンの王シホン、およびアシタロテにおったバシャンの王オグに行われたすべてのことを聞いたからです。
9	11 Therefore our elders and all the inhabitants of our country spoke to us, saying, 'Take provisions with you for the journey, and go to meet them, and say to them, "We are your servants; now therefore, make a covenant with us." '	それで、われわれの長老たち、および国の住民はみなわれわれに言いました、『おまえたちは旅路の食料を手に携えていって、彼らに会って言いなさい、「われわれはあなたがたのしもべです。それで今われわれと契約を結んでください」』。
9	12 This bread of ours we took hot for our provision from our houses on the day we departed to come to you. But now look, it is dry and moldy.	ここにあるこのパンは、あなたがたの所に来るため、われわれが出立する日に、おのおの家から、まだあたたかなのを旅の食料として準備したのですが、今はもうかわいて砕けています。
9	13 And these wineskins which we filled were new, and see, they are torn; and these our garments and our sandals have become old because of the very long journey."	またぶどう酒を満たしたこれらの皮袋も、新しかったのですが、破れました。われわれのこの着物も、くつも、旅路がひじょうに長かったので、古びてしまいました」。
9	14 Then the men of Israel took some of their provisions; but they did not ask counsel of the Lord.	そこでイスラエルの人々は彼らの食料品を共に食べ、主のさしずを求めようとはしなかった。
9	15 So Joshua made peace with them, and made a covenant with them to let them live; and the rulers of the congregation swore to them.	そしてヨシュアは彼らと和を講じ、契約を結んで、彼らを生かしておいた。会衆の長たちは彼らに誓いを立てた。
9	16 And it happened at the end of three days, after they had made a covenant with them, that they heard that they were their neighbors who dwelt near them.	契約を結んで三日の後に、彼らはその人々が近くの人々で、自分たちのうちに住んでいるということを聞いた。
9	17 Then the children of Israel journeyed and came to their cities on the third day. Now their cities were Gibeon, Chephirah, Beeroth, and Kirjath Jearim.	イスラエルの人々は進んで、三日目にその町々に着いた。その町々とは、ギベオン、ケピラ、ベエロテおよびキリアテ・ヤリムであった。
9	18 But the children of Israel did not attack them, because the rulers of the congregation had sworn to them by the Lord God of Israel. And all the congregation complained against the rulers.	ところで会衆の長たちが、すでにイスラエルの神、主をさして彼らに誓いを立てていたので、イスラエルの人々は彼らを殺さなかった。そこで会衆はみな、長たちにむかってつぶやいた。
9	19 Then all the rulers said to all the congregation, "We have sworn to them by the Lord God of Israel; now therefore, we may not touch them.	しかし、長たちは皆、全会衆に言った、「われわれはイスラエルの神、主をさして彼らに誓った。それゆえ今、彼らに触れてはならない。
9	20 This we will do to them: We will let them live, lest wrath be upon us because of the oath which we swore to them."	われわれは、こうして彼らを生かしておこう。そうすれば、われわれが彼らに立てた誓いのゆえに、怒りがわれわれに臨むことはないであろう」。
9	21 And the rulers said to them, "Let them live, but let them be woodcutters and water carriers for all the congregation, as the rulers had promised them."	長たちはまた人々に「彼らを生かしておこう」と言ったので、彼らはついに、全会衆のために、たきぎを切り、水をくむものとなった。長たちが彼らに言ったとおりである。
9	22 Then Joshua called for them, and he spoke to them, saying, "Why have you deceived us, saying, 'We are very far from you,' when you dwell near us?	ヨシュアは彼らを呼び寄せて言った、「あなたがたは、われわれのうちに住みながら、なぜ『われわれはあなたがたからは遠く離れている』と言って、われわれをだましたのか。
9	23 Now therefore, you are cursed, and none of you shall be freed from being slaves--woodcutters and water carriers for the house of my God."	それであなたがたは今のろわれ、奴隷となってわたしの神の家のために、たきぎを切り、水をくむものが、絶えずあなたがたのうちから出るであろう」。
9	24 So they answered Joshua and said, "Because your servants were clearly told that the Lord your God commanded His servant Moses to give you all the land, and to destroy all the inhabitants of the land from before you; therefore we were very much afraid for our lives because of you, and have done this thing.	彼らはヨシュアに答えて言った、「あなたの神、主がそのしもべモーセに、この地をことごとくあなたがたに与え、この地に住む民をことごとくあなたがたの前から滅ぼし去るようにと、お命じになったことを、しもべどもは明らかに伝え聞きましたので、あなたがたのゆえに、命が危いと、われわれは非常に恐れて、このことをしたのです。

9	26 So he did to them, and delivered them out of the hand of the children of Israel, so that they did not kill them.	そこでヨシュアは、彼らにそのようにし、彼らをイスラエルの人々の手から救って殺させなかった。
9	27 And that day Joshua made them woodcutters and water carriers for the congregation and for the altar of the Lord, in the place which He would choose, even to this day.	しかし、ヨシュアは、その日、彼らを、会衆のため、また主の祭壇のため、主が選ばれる場所で、たきぎを切り、水をくむ者とした。これは今日までつづいている。

10	1 Now it came to pass when Adoni-Zedek king of Jerusalem heard how Joshua had taken Ai and had utterly destroyed it--as he had done to Jericho and its king, so he had done to Ai and its king--and how the inhabitants of Gibeon had made peace with Israel and were among them,	エルサレムの王アドニゼデクは、ヨシュアがアイを攻め取って、それを全く滅ぼし、さきにエリコとその王とにしたように、アイとその王にもしたこと、またギベオンの住民が、イスラエルと和を講じて、そのうちにおることを聞き、

10	3 Therefore Adoni-Zedek king of Jerusalem sent to Hoham king of Hebron, Piram king of Jarmuth, Japhia king of Lachish, and Debir king of Eglon, saying,	それでエルサレムの王アドニゼデクは、ヘブロンの王ホハム、ヤルムテの王ピラム、ラキシの王ヤピア、およびエグロンの王デビルに人をつかわして言った、
10	4 "Come up to me and help me, that we may attack Gibeon, for it has made peace with Joshua and with the children of Israel."	「わたしの所に上ってきて、わたしを助けてください。われわれはギベオンを撃ちましょう。ギベオンはヨシュアおよびイスラエルの人々と和を講じたからです」。
10	5 Therefore the five kings of the Amorites, the king of Jerusalem, the king of Hebron, the king of Jarmuth, the king of Lachish, and the king of Eglon, gathered together and went up, they and all their armies, and camped before Gibeon and made war against it.	アモリびとの五人の王、すなわちエルサレムの王、ヘブロンの王、ヤルムテの王、ラキシの王、およびエグロンの王は兵を集め、そのすべての軍勢を率いて上ってきて、ギベオンに向かって陣を取り、それを攻めて戦った。

10	7 So Joshua ascended from Gilgal, he and all the people of war with him, and all the mighty men of valor.	そこでヨシュアはすべてのいくさびとと、すべての大勇士を率いて、ギルガルから上って行った。
10	8 And the Lord said to Joshua, "Do not fear them, for I have delivered them into your hand; not a man of them shall stand before you."	その時、主はヨシュアに言われた、「彼らを恐れてはならない。わたしが彼らをあなたの手にわたしたからである。彼らのうちには、あなたに当ることのできるものは、ひとりもないであろう」。
10	9 Joshua therefore came upon them suddenly, having marched all night from Gilgal.	ヨシュアは、ギルガルから、よもすがら進みのぼって、にわかに彼らに攻めよせたところ、
10	10 So the Lord routed them before Israel, killed them with a great slaughter at Gibeon, chased them along the road that goes to Beth Horon, and struck them down as far as Azekah and Makkedah.	主は彼らを、イスラエルの前に、恐れあわてさせられたので、イスラエルはギベオンで彼らをおびただしく撃ち殺し、ベテホロンの上り坂をとおって逃げる彼らを、アゼカとマッケダまで追撃した。
10	11 And it happened, as they fled before Israel and were on the descent of Beth Horon, that the Lord cast down large hailstones from heaven on them as far as Azekah, and they died. There were more who died from the hailstones than the children of Israel killed with the sword.	彼らがイスラエルの前から逃げ走って、ベテホロンの下り坂をおりていた時、主は天から彼らの上に大石を降らし、アゼカにいたるまでもそうされたので、多くの人々が死んだ。イスラエルの人々がつるぎをもって殺したものよりも、雹に打たれて死んだもののほうが多かった。
10	12 Then Joshua spoke to the Lord in the day when the Lord delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel: "Sun, stand still over Gibeon; And Moon, in the Valley of Aijalon."	主がアモリびとをイスラエルの人々にわたされた日に、ヨシュアはイスラエルの人々の前で主にむかって言った、／「日よ、ギベオンの上にとどまれ、／月よ、アヤロンの谷にやすらえ」。
10	13 So the sun stood still, And the moon stopped, Till the people had revenge Upon their enemies. Is this not written in the Book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day.	民がその敵を撃ち破るまで、／日はとどまり、／月は動かなかった。これはヤシャルの書にしるされているではないか。日が天の中空にとどまって、急いで没しなかったこと、おおよそ一日であった。
10	14 And there has been no day like that, before it or after it, that the Lord heeded the voice of a man; for the Lord fought for Israel.	これより先にも、あとにも、主がこのように人の言葉を聞きいれられた日は一日もなかった。主がイスラエルのために戦われたからである。
10	15 Then Joshua returned, and all Israel with him, to the camp at Gilgal.	こうしてヨシュアはイスラエルのすべての人と共にギルガルの陣営に帰った。
10	16 But these five kings had fled and hidden themselves in a cave at Makkedah.	かの五人の王たちは逃げて行って、マッケダのほら穴に隠れたが、
10	17 And it was told Joshua, saying, "The five kings have been found hidden in the cave at Makkedah."	五人の王たちがマッケダのほら穴にかくれているのが見つかったと、ヨシュアに告げる者があったので、
10	18 So Joshua said, "Roll large stones against the mouth of the cave, and set men by it to guard them.	ヨシュアは言った、「ほら穴の口に大石をころがし、そのそばに人を置いて、守らせなさい。
10	19 And do not stay there yourselves, but pursue your enemies, and attack their rear guard. Do not allow them to enter their cities, for the Lord your God has delivered them into your hand."	ただし、あなたがたは、そこにとどまらないで、敵のあとを追い、そのしんがりを撃ち、彼らをその町にはいらせてはならない。あなたがたの神、主が彼らをあなたがたの手に渡されたからである」。

10	21 And all the people returned to the camp, to Joshua at Makkedah, in peace. No one moved his tongue against any of the children of Israel.	民はみな安らかにマッケダの陣営のヨシュアのもとに帰ってきたが、イスラエルの人々にむかって舌を鳴らす者はひとりもなかった。

10	24 So it was, when they brought out those kings to Joshua, that Joshua called for all the men of Israel, and said to the captains of the men of war who went with him, "Come near, put your feet on the necks of these kings." 11	6 But the Lord said to Joshua, "Do not be afraid because of them, for tomorrow about this time I will deliver all of them slain before Israel. 15	8 And the border went up by the Valley of the Son of Hinnom to the southern slope of the Jebusite city (which is Jerusalem). 15	9 Then the border went around from the top of the hill to the fountain of the water of Nephtoah, and extended to the cities of Mount Ephron. And the border went around to Baalah (which is Kirjath Jearim).	その境は、この山の頂からネフトアの水の源に至り、その所からエフロン山の町々に及び、その境は曲ってバアラに達する。これは、すなわちキリアテ・ヤリムである。

15	13 Now to Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a share among the children of Judah, according to the commandment of the Lord to Joshua, namely, Kirjath Arba, which is Hebron (Arba was the father of Anak).	ヨシュアは、主に命じられたように、エフンネの子カレブに、ユダの人々のうちで、キリアテ・アルバ、すなわちヘブロンを与えて、その分とさせた。アルバはアナクの父であった。

17	4 And they came near before Eleazar the priest, before Joshua the son of Nun, and before the rulers, saying, "The Lord commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brothers." 17	7 And the territory of Manasseh was from Asher to Michmethath, that lies east of Shechem; and the border went along south to the inhabitants of En Tappuah.	マナセの獲た地の境は、アセルからシケムの東のミクメタテに及び、その境は南に延びて、エンタップアの住民に達する。
17	8 Manasseh had the land of Tappuah, but Tappuah on the border of Manasseh belonged to the children of Ephraim.	タップアの地はマナセに属していたが、マナセの境にあるタップアの町は、エフライムの子孫に属していた。
17	9 And the border descended to the Brook Kanah, southward to the brook. These cities of Ephraim are among the cities of Manasseh. The border of Manasseh was on the north side of the brook; and it ended at the sea.	またその境はカナの川に下って、川の南に至る。そこの町々はマナセの町々の中にあって、エフライムに属した。マナセの境は、川の北に沿って進み、海に達して尽きる。
17	10 Southward it was Ephraim's, northward it was Manasseh's, and the sea was its border. Manasseh's territory was adjoining Asher on the north and Issachar on the east.	その川の南の地は、エフライムに属し、北はマナセに属する。海がその境となる。マナセは北はアセルに接し、東はイッサカルに接する。
17	11 And in Issachar and in Asher, Manasseh had Beth Shean and its towns, Ibleam and its towns, the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, the inhabitants of En Dor and its towns, the inhabitants of Taanach and its towns, and the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns--three hilly regions.	マナセはまたイッサカルとアセルの中に、ベテシャンとその村々、イブレアムとその村々、ドルの住民とその村々、エンドルの住民とその村々、タアナクの住民とその村々、メギドの住民とその村々を獲た。このうち第三のものは高地である。

17	18 but the mountain country shall be yours. 18	3 Then Joshua said to the children of Israel: "How long will you neglect to go and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers has given you?	ヨシュアはイスラエルの人々に言った、「あなたがたは、先祖の神、主が、あなたがたに与えられた地を取りに行くのを、いつまで怠っているのですか。
18	4 Pick out from among you three men for each tribe, and I will send them; they shall rise and go through the land, survey it according to their inheritance, and come back to me.	部族ごとに三人ずつを出しなさい。わたしはその人々をつかわしましょう。彼らは立っていって、その地を行き巡り、おのおのの嗣業のために、それを図面にして、わたしのところへ持ってこなければならない。
18	5 And they shall divide it into seven parts. Judah shall remain in their territory on the south, and the house of Joseph shall remain in their territory on the north.	彼らはその地を七つの部分に分けなければならない。ユダは南のその領地にとどまり、ヨセフの家は北のその領地にとどまらなければならない。

18	7 But the Levites have no part among you, for the priesthood of the Lord is their inheritance. 18	12 Their border on the north side began at the Jordan, and the border went up to the side of Jericho on the north, and went up through the mountains westward; it ended at the Wilderness of Beth Aven.	すなわち、その北の方の境は、ヨルダンに始まり、エリコの北のわきに上り、また西の方の山地をとおって上り、ベテアベンの荒野に達して尽きる。
18	13 The border went over from there toward Luz, to the side of Luz (which is Bethel) southward; and the border descended to Ataroth Addar, near the hill that lies on the south side of Lower Beth Horon.	そこから、その境はルズに進み、ルズの南のわきに至る。ルズはベテルである。ついでその境は下ベテホロンの南の山にあるアタロテ・アダルに下り、
18	14 Then the border extended around the west side to the south, from the hill that lies before Beth Horon southward; and it ended at Kirjath Baal (which is Kirjath Jearim), a city of the children of Judah. 18	18 Then it passed along toward the north side of Arabah, and went down to Arabah.	ベテアラバのわきを北に進んで、アラバに下り、
18	19 And the border passed along to the north side of Beth Hoglah; then the border ended at the north bay at the Salt Sea, at the south end of the Jordan. This was the southern boundary.	その境は、ベテホグラの北のわきに進み、ヨルダンの南端で、塩の海の北の入海に至って尽きる。これが南の境である。
18	20 The Jordan was its border on the east side. This was the inheritance of the children of Benjamin, according to its boundaries all around, according to their families.	ヨルダンは東の方の境となっていた。これがベニヤミンの子孫の、その家族にしたがって獲た嗣業の四方の境である。
18	21 Now the cities of the tribe of the children of Benjamin, according to their families, were Jericho, Beth Hoglah, Emek Keziz,	ベニヤミンの子孫の部族が、その家族にしたがって獲た町々は、エリコ、ベテホグラ、エメクケジツ、
18	22 Beth Arabah, Zemaraim, Bethel,	ベテアラバ、ゼマライム、ベテル、

19	9 The inheritance of the children of Simeon was included in the share of the children of Judah, for the share of the children of Judah was too much for them. 19	32 The sixth lot came out to the children of Naphtali, for the children of Naphtali according to their families.	第六に、ナフタリの子孫のために、その家族にしたがって、くじを引いた。
19	33 And their border began at Heleph, enclosing the territory from the terebinth tree in Zaanannim, Adami Nekeb, and Jabneel, as far as Lakkum; it ended at the Jordan.	その境はヘレフから、すなわちザアナニイムのかしの木から起り、アダミ・ネケブおよび、ヤブネルを経て、ラクムに至り、ヨルダンに至って尽きる。
19	34 From Heleph the border extended westward to Aznoth Tabor, and went out from there toward Hukkok; it adjoined Zebulun on the south side and Asher on the west side, and ended at Judah by the Jordan toward the sunrise.	そしてその境は西に向かって、アズノテ・タボルに至り、そこからホッコクに出る。南はゼブルンに接し、西はアセルに接し、東はヨルダンのユダに達する。

19	40 The seventh lot came out for the tribe of the children of Dan according to their families.	第七に、ダンの子孫の部族のために、その家族にしたがって、くじを引いた。
19	41 And the territory of their inheritance was Zorah, Eshtaol, Ir Shemesh,	その嗣業の領域には、ゾラ、エシタオル、イルシメシ、

19	47 And the border of the children of Dan went beyond these, because the children of Dan went up to fight against Leshem and took it; and they struck it with the edge of the sword, took possession of it, and dwelt in it. 19	49 When they had made an end of dividing the land as an inheritance according to their borders, the children of Israel gave an inheritance among them to Joshua the son of Nun.	こうして国の各地域を嗣業として分け与えることを終ったとき、イスラエルの人々は、自分たちのうちに、一つの嗣業を、ヌンの子ヨシュアに与えた。
19	50 According to the word of the Lord they gave him the city which he asked for, Timnath Serah in the mountains of Ephraim; and he built the city and dwelt in it.	すなわち、主の命に従って、彼が求めた町を与えたが、それはエフライムの山地にあるテムナテ・セラであって、彼はその町を建てなおして、そこに住んだ。
19	51 These were the inheritances which Eleazar the priest, Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel divided as an inheritance by lot in Shiloh before the Lord, at the door of the tabernacle of meeting. 20	3 that the slayer who kills a person accidentally or unintentionally may flee there; and they shall be your refuge from the avenger of blood.	あやまって、知らずに人を殺した者を、そこへのがれさせなさい。これはあなたがたが、あだを討つ者をさけて、のがれる場所となるでしょう。
20	4 And when he flees to one of those cities, and stands at the entrance of the gate of the city, and declares his case in the hearing of the elders of that city, they shall take him into the city as one of them, and give him a place, that he may dwell among them.	その人は、これらの町の一つにのがれて行って、町の門の入口に立ち、その町の長老たちに、そのわけを述べなければならない。そうすれば、彼らはその人を町に受け入れて、場所を与え、共に住ませるであろう。
20	5 Then if the avenger of blood pursues him, they shall not deliver the slayer into his hand, because he struck his neighbor unintentionally, but did not hate him beforehand.	たとい、あだを討つ者が追ってきても、人を殺したその者を、その手に渡してはならない。彼はあやまって隣人を殺したのであって、もとからそれを憎んでいたのではないからである。
20	6 And he shall dwell in that city until he stands before the congregation for judgment, and until the death of the one who is high priest in those days. 21	4 Now the lot came out for the families of the Kohathites. 21	41 All the cities of the Levites within the possession of the children of Israel were forty-eight cities with their common-lands.	イスラエルの人々の所有のうちに、レビびとが持った町々は、合わせて四十八であって、それに属する放牧地があった。
21	42 Every one of these cities had its common-land surrounding it; thus were all these cities.	これらの町々は、それぞれその周囲に放牧地があった。これらの町々はみなそうであった。
21	43 So the Lord gave to Israel all the land of which He had sworn to give to their fathers, and they took possession of it and dwelt in it.	このように、主が、イスラエルに与えると、その先祖たちに誓われた地を、ことごとく与えられたので、彼らはそれを獲て、そこに住んだ。

22	7 Now to half the tribe of Manasseh Moses had given a possession in Bashan, but to the other half of it Joshua gave a possession among their brethren on this side of the Jordan, westward. 22	17 Is the iniquity of Peor not enough for us, from which we are not cleansed until this day, although there was a plague in the congregation of the Lord,	ペオルで犯した罪で、なお足りないとするのか。それがために主の会衆に災が下ったが、われわれは今日もなお、その罪から清められていない。
22	18 but that you must turn away this day from following the Lord? And it shall be, if you rebel today against the Lord, that tomorrow He will be angry with the whole congregation of Israel.	しかもあなたがたは、今日、ひるがえって主に従うことをやめようとするのか。あなたがたが、きょう、主にそむくならば、あす、主はイスラエルの全会衆にむかって怒られるであろう。
22	19 Nevertheless, if the land of your possession is unclean, then cross over to the land of the possession of the Lord, where the Lord's tabernacle stands, and take possession among us; but do not rebel against the Lord, nor rebel against us, by building yourselves an altar besides the altar of the Lord our God.	もしあなたがたの所有の地が清くないのであれば、主の幕屋の立っている主の所有の地に渡ってきて、われわれのうちに、所有の地を獲なさい。ただ、われわれの神、主の祭壇のほかに、自分のために祭壇を築いて、主にそむき、またわれわれをそむく者とならせないでください。

22	27 but that it may be a witness between you and us and our generations after us, that we may perform the service of the Lord before Him with our burnt offerings, with our sacrifices, and with our peace offerings; that your descendants may not say to our descendants in time to come, "You have no part in the Lord." 23	13 know for certain that the Lord your God will no longer drive out these nations from before you. 24	11 'Then you went over the Jordan and came to Jericho.
