1	1 In the second year of King Darius, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, the word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying,	ダリヨス王の二年六月、その月の一日に、主の言葉が預言者ハガイによって、シャルテルの子、ユダの総督ゼルバベル、およびヨザダクの子、大祭司ヨシュアに臨んだ、
1	2 "Thus speaks the Lord of hosts, saying: 'This people says, "The time has not come, the time that the Lord's house should be built." ' "	「万軍の主はこう言われる、この民は、主の家を再び建てる時は、まだこないと言っている」。
1	3 Then the word of the Lord came by Haggai the prophet, saying,	そこで、主の言葉はまた預言者ハガイに臨んだ、

1	5 Now therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts: "Consider your ways!	それで今、万軍の主はこう言われる、あなたがたは自分のなすべきことをよく考えるがよい。
1	6 "You have sown much, and bring in little; You eat, but do not have enough; You drink, but you are not filled with drink; You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; And he who earns wages, Earns wages to put into a bag with holes."	あなたがたは多くまいても、取入れは少なく、食べても、飽きることはない。飲んでも、満たされない。着ても、暖まらない。賃銀を得ても、これを破れた袋に入れているようなものである。
1	7 Thus says the Lord of hosts: "Consider your ways!	万軍の主はこう言われる、あなたがたは、自分のなすべきことを考えるがよい。
1	8 Go up to the mountains and bring wood and build the temple, that I may take pleasure in it and be glorified," says the Lord.	山に登り、木を持ってきて主の家を建てよ。そうすればわたしはこれを喜び、かつ栄光のうちに現れると主は言われる。
1	9 "You looked for much, but indeed it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why?" says the Lord of hosts. 1	11 For I called for a drought on the land and the mountains, on the grain and the new wine and the oil, on whatever the ground brings forth, on men and livestock, and on all the labor of your hands."	また、わたしは地にも、山にも、穀物にも、新しい酒にも、油にも、地に生じるものにも、人間にも、家畜にも、手で作るすべての作物にも、ひでりを呼び寄せた」。
1	12 Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of the Lord their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as the Lord their God had sent him; and the people feared the presence of the Lord.	そこで、シャルテルの子ゼルバベルとヨザダクの子、大祭司ヨシュアおよび残りのすべての民は、その神、主の声と、その神、主のつかわされた預言者ハガイの言葉とに聞きしたがい、そして民は、主の前に恐れかしこんだ。

2	2 "Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and to the remnant of the people, saying:	「シャルテルの子、ユダの総督ゼルバベルと、ヨザダクの子、大祭司ヨシュア、および残りのすべての民に告げて言え、
2	3 'Who is left among you who saw this temple in its former glory? And how do you see it now? In comparison with it, is this not in your eyes as nothing?	『あなたがた残りの者のうち、以前の栄光に輝く主の家を見た者はだれか。あなたがたは今、この状態をどう思うか。これはあなたがたの目には、無にひとしいではないか。
2	4 Yet now be strong, Zerubbabel,' says the Lord; 'and be strong, Joshua, son of Jehozadak, the high priest; and be strong, all you people of the land,' says the Lord, 'and work; for I am with you,' says the Lord of hosts.	主は言われる、ゼルバベルよ、勇気を出せ。ヨザダクの子、大祭司ヨシュアよ、勇気を出せ。主は言われる。この地のすべての民よ、勇気を出せ。働け。わたしはあなたがたと共にいると、万軍の主は言われる。

2	6 "For thus says the Lord of hosts: 'Once more (it is a little while) I will shake heaven and earth, the sea and dry land;	万軍の主はこう言われる、しばらくして、いま一度、わたしは天と、地と、海と、かわいた地とを震う。
2	7 and I will shake all nations, and they shall come to the Desire of All Nations, and I will fill this temple with glory,' says the Lord of hosts.	わたしはまた万国民を震う。万国民の財宝は、はいって来て、わたしは栄光をこの家に満たすと、万軍の主は言われる。
2	8 'The silver is Mine, and the gold is Mine,' says the Lord of hosts.	銀はわたしのもの、金もわたしのものであると、万軍の主は言われる。

2	11 "Thus says the Lord of hosts: 'Now, ask the priests concerning the law, saying,	「万軍の主はこう言われる、律法について祭司たちに尋ねて言え、
2	12 If one carries holy meat in the fold of his garment, and with the edge he touches bread or stew, wine or oil, or any food, will it become holy?" ' " Then the priests answered and said, "No."	『人がその衣服のすそで聖なる肉を運んで行き、そのすそがもし、パンまたはあつもの、または酒、または油、またはどんな食物にでもさわったなら、それらは聖なるものとなるか』と」。祭司たちは「ならない」と答えた。
2	13 And Haggai said, "If one who is unclean because of a dead body touches any of these, will it be unclean?" So the priests answered and said, "It shall be unclean."	ハガイはまた言った、「もし、死体によって汚れた人が、これらの一つにさわったなら、それは汚れるか」。祭司たちは「汚れる」と答えた。
2	14 Then Haggai answered and said, " 'So is this people, and so is this nation before Me,' says the Lord, 'and so is every work of their hands; and what they offer there is unclean.	そこで、ハガイは言った、「主は言われる、この民も、この国も、わたしの前では、そのようである。またその手のわざもそのようである。その所で彼らのささげるものは、汚れたものである。
2	15 'And now, carefully consider from this day forward: from before stone was laid upon stone in the temple of the Lord--	今、あなたがたはこの日から、後の事を思うがよい。主の宮で石の上に石が積まれなかった前、あなたがたは、どんなであったか。
2	16 since those days, when one came to a heap of twenty ephahs, there were but ten; when one came to the wine vat to draw out fifty baths from the press, there were but twenty.	あの時には、二十枡の麦の積まれる所に行ったが、わずかに十枡を得、また五十桶をくもうとして、酒ぶねに行ったが、二十桶を得たのみであった。
2	17 I struck you with blight and mildew and hail in all the labors of your hands; yet you did not turn to Me,' says the Lord.	わたしは立ち枯れと、腐り穂と、ひょうをもってあなたがたと、あなたがたのすべての手のわざを撃った。しかし、あなたがたは、わたしに帰らなかったと主は言われる。
2	18 'Consider now from this day forward, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, from the day that the foundation of the Lord's temple was laid--consider it:	あなたがたはこの日より後、すなわち、九月二十四日よりの事を思うがよい。また主の宮の基をすえた日から後の事を心にとめるがよい。
2	19 Is the seed still in the barn? As yet the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate, and the olive tree have not yielded fruit. But from this day I will bless you.' "	種はなお、納屋にあるか。ぶどうの木、いちじくの木、ざくろの木、オリブの木もまだ実を結ばない。しかし、わたしはこの日から、あなたがたに恵みを与える」。
2	20 And again the word of the Lord came to Haggai on the twenty-fourth day of the month, saying,	この月の二十四日に、主の言葉がふたたびハガイに臨んだ、
2	21"Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying: 'I will shake heaven and earth.	「ユダの総督ゼルバベルに告げて言え、わたしは天と地を震う。
2	22 I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms; I will destroy the strength of the Gentile kingdoms. I will overthrow the chariots And those who ride in them; The horses and their riders shall come down, Every one by the sword of his brother.	わたしは国々の王位を倒し、異邦の国々の力を滅ぼし、また戦車、およびこれに乗る者を倒す。馬およびこれに乗る者は、たがいにその仲間のつるぎによって倒れる。
