1 1 Now it came to pass after the death of Saul, when David had returned from the slaughter of the Amalekites, and David had stayed two days in Ziklag, サウルが死んだ後、ダビデはアマレクびとを撃って帰り、ふつかの間チクラグにとどまっていたが、
1 2 on the third day, behold, it happened that a man came from Saul's camp with his clothes torn and dust on his head. So it was, when he came to David, that he fell to the ground and prostrated himself. 三日目となって、ひとりの人が、その着物を裂き、頭に土をかぶって、サウルの陣営からきた。そしてダビデのもとにきて、地に伏して拝した。

1 4 Then David said to him, "How did the matter go? Please tell me." And he answered, "The people have fled from the battle, many of the people are fallen and dead, and Saul and Jonathan his son are dead also." ダビデは彼に言った、「様子はどうであったか話しなさい」。彼は答えた、「民は戦いから逃げ、民の多くは倒れて死に、サウルとその子ヨナタンもまた死にました」。
1 5 So David said to the young man who told him, "How do you know that Saul and Jonathan his son are dead?" ダビデは自分と話している若者に言った、「あなたはサウルとその子ヨナタンが死んだのを、どうして知ったのか」。
1 6 Then the young man who told him said, "As I happened by chance to be on Mount Gilboa, there was Saul, leaning on his spear; and indeed the chariots and horsemen followed hard after him. 彼に話している若者は言った、「わたしは、はからずも、ギルボア山にいましたが、サウルはそのやりによりかかっており、戦車と騎兵とが彼に攻め寄ろうとしていました。

1 10 So I stood over him and killed him, because I was sure that he could not live after he had fallen. 1 12 And they mourned and wept and fasted until evening for Saul and for Jonathan his son, for the people of the Lord and for the house of Israel, because they had fallen by the sword. 彼らはサウルのため、またその子ヨナタンのため、また主の民のため、またイスラエルの家のために悲しみ泣いて、夕暮まで食を断った。それは彼らがつるぎに倒れたからである。
1 13 Then David said to the young man who told him, "Where are you from?" And he answered, "I am the son of an alien, an Amalekite." ダビデは自分と話していた若者に言った、「あなたはどこの人ですか」。彼は言った、「アマレクびとで、寄留の他国人の子です」。

1 15 Then David called one of the young men and said, "Go near, and execute him!" And he struck him so that he died. ダビデはひとりの若者を呼び、「近寄って彼を撃て」と言った。そこで彼を撃ったので死んだ。
1 16 So David said to him, "Your blood is on your own head, for your own mouth has testified against you, saying, 'I have killed the Lord's anointed.' " ダビデは彼に言った、「あなたの流した血の責めはあなたに帰する。あなたが自分の口から、『わたしは主の油を注がれた者を殺した』と言って、自身にむかって証拠を立てたからである」。
1 17 Then David lamented with this lamentation over Saul and over Jonathan his son, ダビデはこの悲しみの歌をもって、サウルとその子ヨナタンのために哀悼した。――
1 18 and he told them to teach the children of Judah the Song of the Bow; indeed it is written in the Book of Jasher: これは、ユダの人々に教えるための弓の歌で、ヤシャルの書にしるされている。――彼は言った、
1 19 "The beauty of Israel is slain on your high places! How the mighty have fallen! 「イスラエルよ、あなたの栄光は、／あなたの高き所で殺された。ああ、勇士たちは、ついに倒れた。
1 20 Tell it not in Gath, Proclaim it not in the streets of Ashkelon-- Lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, Lest the daughters of the uncircumcised triumph. ガテにこの事を告げてはいけない。アシケロンのちまたに伝えてはならない。おそらくはペリシテびとの娘たちが喜び、／割礼なき者の娘たちが勝ちほこるであろう。
1 21 "O mountains of Gilboa, Let there be no dew nor rain upon you, Nor fields of offerings. For the shield of the mighty is cast away there! The shield of Saul, not anointed with oil. ギルボアの山よ、／露はおまえの上におりるな。死の野よ、／雨もおまえの上に降るな。その所に勇士たちの盾は捨てられ、／サウルの盾は油を塗らずに捨てられた。
1 22 From the blood of the slain, From the fat of the mighty, The bow of Jonathan did not turn back, And the sword of Saul did not return empty. 殺した者の血を飲まずには、／ヨナタンの弓は退かず、／勇士の脂肪を食べないでは、／サウルのつるぎは、むなしくは帰らなかった。
1 23 "Saul and Jonathan were beloved and pleasant in their lives, And in their death they were not divided; They were swifter than eagles, They were stronger than lions. サウルとヨナタンとは、愛され、かつ喜ばれた。彼らは生きるにも、死ぬにも離れず、／わしよりも早く、／ししよりも強かった。
1 24 "O daughters of Israel, weep over Saul, Who clothed you in scarlet, with luxury; Who put ornaments of gold on your apparel. イスラエルの娘たちよ、サウルのために泣け。彼は緋色の着物をもって、／はなやかにあなたがたを装い、／あなたがたの着物に金の飾りをつけた。
1 25 "How the mighty have fallen in the midst of the battle! Jonathan was slain in your high places. ああ、勇士たちは戦いのさなかに倒れた。ヨナタンは、あなたの高き所で殺された。
1 26 I am distressed for you, my brother Jonathan; You have been very pleasant to me; Your love to me was wonderful, Surpassing the love of women. わが兄弟ヨナタンよ、あなたのためわたしは悲しむ。あなたはわたしにとって、いとも楽しい者であった。あなたがわたしを愛するのは世の常のようでなく、／女の愛にもまさっていた。
1 27 "How the mighty have fallen, And the weapons of war perished!" ああ、勇士たちは倒れた。戦いの器はうせた」。

2 1 It happened after this that David inquired of the Lord, saying, "Shall I go up to any of the cities of Judah?" And the Lord said to him, "Go up." David said, "Where shall I go up?" And He said, "To Hebron." この後、ダビデは主に問うて言った、「わたしはユダの一つの町に上るべきでしょうか」。主は彼に言われた、「上りなさい」。ダビデは言った、「どこへ上るべきでしょうか」。主は言われた、「ヘブロンへ」。

2 4 Then the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, "The men of Jabesh Gilead were the ones who buried Saul." 時にユダの人々がきて、その所でダビデに油を注ぎ、ユダの家の王とした。人々がダビデに告げて、「サウルを葬ったのはヤベシ・ギレアデの人々である」と言ったので、
2 5 So David sent messengers to the men of Jabesh Gilead, and said to them, "You are blessed of the Lord, for you have shown this kindness to your lord, to Saul, and have buried him. ダビデは使者をヤベシ・ギレアデの人々につかわして彼らに言った、「あなたがたは、主君サウルにこの忠誠をあらわして彼を葬った。どうぞ主があなたがたを祝福されるように。
2 6 And now may the Lord show kindness and truth to you. I also will repay you this kindness, because you have done this thing. どうぞ主がいまあなたがたに、いつくしみと真実を示されるように。あなたがたが、この事をしたので、わたしもまたあなたがたに好意を示すであろう。
2 7 Now therefore, let your hands be strengthened, and be valiant; for your master Saul is dead, and also the house of Judah has anointed me king over them." 今あなたがたは手を強くし、雄々しくあれ。あなたがたの主君サウルは死に、ユダの家がわたしに油を注いで、彼らの王としたからである」。
2 8 But Abner the son of Ner, commander of Saul's army, took Ishbosheth the son of Saul and brought him over to Mahanaim; さてサウルの軍の長、ネルの子アブネルは、さきにサウルの子イシボセテを取り、マハナイムに連れて渡り、
2 9 and he made him king over Gilead, over the Ashurites, over Jezreel, over Ephraim, over Benjamin, and over all Israel. 彼をギレアデ、アシュルびと、エズレル、エフライム、ベニヤミンおよび全イスラエルの王とした。
2 10 Ishbosheth, Saul's son, was forty years old when he began to reign over Israel, and he reigned two years. Only the house of Judah followed David. サウルの子イシボセテはイスラエルの王となった時、四十歳であって、二年の間、世を治めたが、ユダの家はダビデに従った。
2 11 And the time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months. ダビデがヘブロンにいてユダの家の王であった日数は七年と六か月であった。
2 12 Now Abner the son of Ner, and the servants of Ishbosheth the son of Saul, went out from Mahanaim to Gibeon. ネルの子アブネル、およびサウルの子イシボセテの家来たちはマハナイムを出てギベオンへ行った。
2 13 And Joab the son of Zeruiah, and the servants of David, went out and met them by the pool of Gibeon. So they sat down, one on one side of the pool and the other on the other side of the pool. ゼルヤの子ヨアブとダビデの家来たちも出ていって、ギベオンの池のそばで彼らと出会い、一方は池のこちら側に、一方は池のあちら側にすわった。

2 15 So they arose and went over by number, twelve from Benjamin, followers of Ishbosheth the son of Saul, and twelve from the servants of David. こうしてサウルの子イシボセテとベニヤミンびととのために十二人、およびダビデの家来たち十二人を数えて出した。彼らは立って進み、
2 16 And each one grasped his opponent by the head and thrust his sword in his opponent's side; so they fell down together. Therefore that place was called the Field of Sharp Swords, which is in Gibeon. おのおの相手の頭を捕え、つるぎを相手のわき腹に刺し、こうして彼らは共に倒れた。それゆえ、その所はヘルカテ・ハヅリムと呼ばれた。それはギベオンにある。
2 17 So there was a very fierce battle that day, and Abner and the men of Israel were beaten before the servants of David. その日、戦いはひじょうに激しく、アブネルとイスラエルの人々はダビデの家来たちの前に敗れた。
2 18 Now the three sons of Zeruiah were there: Joab and Abishai and Asahel. And Asahel was as fleet of foot as a wild gazelle. その所にゼルヤの三人の子、ヨアブ、アビシャイ、およびアサヘルがいたが、アサヘルは足の早いこと、野のかもしかのようであった。
2 19 So Asahel pursued Abner, and in going he did not turn to the right hand or to the left from following Abner. アサヘルはアブネルのあとを追っていったが、行くのに右にも左にも曲ることなく、アブネルのあとに走った。
2 20 Then Abner looked behind him and said, "Are you Asahel?" He answered, "I am." アブネルは後をふりむいて言った、「あなたはアサヘルであったか」。アサヘルは答えた、「わたしです」。
2 21 And Abner said to him, "Turn aside to your right hand or to your left, and lay hold on one of the young men and take his armor for yourself." But Asahel would not turn aside from following him. アブネルは彼に言った、「右か左に曲って、若者のひとりを捕え、そのよろいを奪いなさい」。しかしアサヘルはアブネルを追うことをやめず、ほかに向かおうともしなかった。
2 22 So Abner said again to Asahel, "Turn aside from following me. Why should I strike you to the ground? How then could I face your brother Joab?" アブネルはふたたびアサヘルに言った、「わたしを追うことをやめて、ほかに向かいなさい。あなたを地に撃ち倒すことなど、どうしてわたしにできようか。それをすれば、わたしは、どうしてあなたの兄ヨアブに顔を合わせることができようか」。
2 23 However, he refused to turn aside. Therefore Abner struck him in the stomach with the blunt end of the spear, so that the spear came out of his back; and he fell down there and died on the spot. So it was that as many as came to the place where Asahel fell down and died, stood still. それでもなお彼は、ほかに向かうことを拒んだので、アブネルは、やりの石突きで彼の腹を突いたので、やりはその背中に出た。彼はそこに倒れて、その場で死んだ。そしてアサヘルが倒れて死んでいる場所に来る者は皆立ちとどまった。
2 24 Joab and Abishai also pursued Abner. And the sun was going down when they came to the hill of Ammah, which is before Giah by the road to the Wilderness of Gibeon. しかしヨアブとアビシャイとは、なおアブネルのあとを追ったが、彼らがギベオンの荒野の道のほとり、ギアの前にあるアンマの山にきた時、日は暮れた。
2 25 Now the children of Benjamin gathered together behind Abner and became a unit, and took their stand on top of a hill. ベニヤミンの人々はアブネルのあとについてきて、集まり、一隊となって、一つの山の頂に立った。
2 26 Then Abner called to Joab and said, "Shall the sword devour forever? Do you not know that it will be bitter in the latter end? How long will it be then until you tell the people to return from pursuing their brethren?" その時アブネルはヨアブに呼ばわって言った、「いつまでもつるぎをもって滅ぼそうとするのか。あなたはその結果の悲惨なのを知らないのか。いつまで民にその兄弟を追うことをやめよと命じないのか」。
2 27 And Joab said, "As God lives, unless you had spoken, surely then by morning all the people would have given up pursuing their brethren." ヨアブは言った、「神は生きておられる。もしあなたが言いださなかったならば、民はおのおのその兄弟を追わずに、朝のうちに去っていたであろう」。
2 28 So Joab blew a trumpet; and all the people stood still and did not pursue Israel anymore, nor did they fight anymore. こうしてヨアブは角笛を吹いたので、民はみな立ちとどまって、もはやイスラエルのあとを追わず、また重ねて戦わなかった。
2 29 Then Abner and his men went on all that night through the plain, crossed over the Jordan, and went through all Bithron; and they came to Mahanaim. アブネルとその従者たちは、夜もすがら、アラバを通って行き、ヨルダンを渡り、昼まで行進を続けてマハナイムに着いた。
2 30 So Joab returned from pursuing Abner. And when he had gathered all the people together, there were missing of David's servants nineteen men and Asahel. ヨアブはアブネルを追うことをやめて帰り、民をみな集めたが、ダビデの家来たち十九人とアサヘルとが見当らなかった。
2 31 But the servants of David had struck down, of Benjamin and Abner's men, three hundred and sixty men who died. しかし、ダビデの家来たちは、アブネルの従者であるベニヤミンの人々三百六十人を撃ち殺した。
2 32 Then they took up Asahel and buried him in his father's tomb, which was in Bethlehem. And Joab and his men went all night, and they came to Hebron at daybreak. 人々はアサヘルを取り上げてベツレヘムにあるその父の墓に葬った。ヨアブとその従者たちは、夜もすがら行って、夜明けにヘブロンに着いた。

3 6 Now it was so, while there was war between the house of Saul and the house of David, that Abner was strengthening his hold on the house of Saul. サウルの家とダビデの家とが戦いを続けている間に、アブネルはサウルの家で、強くなってきた。
3 7 And Saul had a concubine, whose name was Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah. So Ishbosheth said to Abner, "Why have you gone in to my father's concubine?" さてサウルには、ひとりのそばめがあった。その名をリヅパといい、アヤの娘であったが、イシボセテはアブネルに言った、「あなたはなぜわたしの父のそばめのところにはいったのですか」。
3 8 Then Abner became very angry at the words of Ishbosheth, and said, "Am I a dog's head that belongs to Judah? Today I show loyalty to the house of Saul your father, to his brothers, and to his friends, and have not delivered you into the hand of David; and you charge me today with a fault concerning this woman? アブネルはイシボセテの言葉を聞き、非常に怒って言った、「わたしはユダの犬のかしらですか。わたしはきょう、あなたの父サウルの家と、その兄弟と、その友人とに忠誠をあらわして、あなたをダビデの手に渡すことをしなかったのに、あなたはきょう、女の事のあやまちを挙げてわたしを責められる。
3 9 May God do so to Abner, and more also, if I do not do for David as the Lord has sworn to him-- 主がダビデに誓われたことを、わたしが彼のためになし遂げないならば、神がアブネルをいくえにも罰しられるように。
3 10 to transfer the kingdom from the house of Saul, and set up the throne of David over Israel and over Judah, from Dan to Beersheba." すなわち王国をサウルの家から移し、ダビデの位をダンからベエルシバに至るまで、イスラエルとユダの上に立たせられるであろう」。
3 11 And he could not answer Abner another word, because he feared him. イシボセテはアブネルを恐れたので、ひと言も彼に答えることができなかった。
3 12 Then Abner sent messengers on his behalf to David, saying, "Whose is the land?" saying also, "Make your covenant with me, and indeed my hand shall be with you to bring all Israel to you." アブネルはヘブロンにいるダビデのもとに使者をつかわして言った、「国はだれのものですか。わたしと契約を結びなさい。わたしはあなたに力添えして、イスラエルをことごとくあなたのものにしましょう」。
3 13 And David said, "Good, I will make a covenant with you. But one thing I require of you: you shall not see my face unless you first bring Michal, Saul's daughter, when you come to see my face." ダビデは言った、「よろしい。わたしは、あなたと契約を結びましょう。ただし一つの事をあなたに求めます。あなたがきてわたしの顔を見るとき、まずサウルの娘ミカルを連れて来るのでなければ、わたしの顔を見ることはできません」。
3 14 So David sent messengers to Ishbosheth, Saul's son, saying, "Give me my wife Michal, whom I betrothed to myself for a hundred foreskins of the Philistines." それからダビデは使者をサウルの子イシボセテにつかわして言った、「ペリシテびとの陽の皮一百をもってめとったわたしの妻ミカルを引き渡しなさい」。
3 15 And Ishbosheth sent and took her from her husband, from Paltiel the son of Laish. そこでイシボセテは人をやって彼女をその夫、ライシの子パルテエルから取ったので、
3 16 Then her husband went along with her to Bahurim, weeping behind her. So Abner said to him, "Go, return!" And he returned. その夫は彼女と共に行き、泣きながら彼女のあとについて、バホリムまで行ったが、アブネルが彼に「帰って行け」と言ったので彼は帰った。
3 17 Now Abner had communicated with the elders of Israel, saying, "In time past you were seeking for David to be king over you. アブネルはイスラエルの長老たちと協議して言った、「あなたがたは以前からダビデをあなたがたの王とすることを求めていましたが、
3 18 Now then, do it! For the Lord has spoken of David, saying, 'By the hand of My servant David, I will save My people Israel from the hand of the Philistines and the hand of all their enemies.' " 今それをしなさい。主がダビデについて、『わたしのしもべダビデの手によって、わたしの民イスラエルをペリシテびとの手、およびもろもろの敵の手から救い出すであろう』と言われたからです」。
3 19 And Abner also spoke in the hearing of Benjamin. Then Abner also went to speak in the hearing of David in Hebron all that seemed good to Israel and the whole house of Benjamin. アブネルはまたベニヤミンにも語った。そしてアブネルは、イスラエルとベニヤミンの全家が良いと思うことをみな、ヘブロンでダビデに告げようとして出発した。
3 20 So Abner and twenty men with him came to David at Hebron. And David made a feast for Abner and the men who were with him. アブネルが二十人を従えてヘブロンにいるダビデのもとに行った時、ダビデはアブネルと彼に従っている従者たちのために酒宴を設けた。
3 21Then Abner said to David, "I will arise and go, and gather all Israel to my lord the king, that they may make a covenant with you, and that you may reign over all that your heart desires." So David sent Abner away, and he went in peace. アブネルはダビデに言った、「わたしは立って行き、イスラエルをことごとく、わが主、王のもとに集めて、あなたと契約を結ばせ、あなたの望むものをことごとく治められるようにいたしましょう」。こうしてダビデはアブネルを送り帰らせたので彼は安全に去って行った。
3 22 At that moment the servants of David and Joab came from a raid and brought much spoil with them. But Abner was not with David in Hebron, for he had sent him away, and he had gone in peace. ちょうどその時、ダビデの家来たちはヨアブと共に多くのぶんどり物を携えて略奪から帰ってきた。しかしアブネルはヘブロンのダビデのもとにはいなかった。ダビデが彼を帰らせて彼が安全に去ったからである。
3 23When Joab and all the troops that were with him had come, they told Joab, saying, "Abner the son of Ner came to the king, and he sent him away, and he has gone in peace." ヨアブおよび彼と共にいた軍勢がみな帰ってきたとき、人々はヨアブに言った、「ネルの子アブネルが王のもとにきたが、王が彼を帰らせたので彼は安全に去った」。
3 24Then Joab came to the king and said, "What have you done? Look, Abner came to you; why is it that you sent him away, and he has already gone? そこでヨアブは王のもとに行って言った、「あなたは何をなさったのですか。アブネルがあなたの所にきたのに、あなたはどうして、彼を返し去らせられたのですか。
3 25 Surely you realize that Abner the son of Ner came to deceive you, to know your going out and your coming in, and to know all that you are doing." ネルの子アブネルがあなたを欺くためにきたこと、そしてあなたの出入りを知り、またあなたのなさっていることを、ことごとく知るためにきたことをあなたはごぞんじです」。
3 26 And when Joab had gone from David's presence, he sent messengers after Abner, who brought him back from the well of Sirah. But David did not know it. ヨアブはダビデの所から出てきて、使者をつかわし、アブネルを追わせたので、彼らはシラの井戸から彼を連れて帰った。しかしダビデはその事を知らなかった。
3 27 Now when Abner had returned to Hebron, Joab took him aside in the gate to speak with him privately, and there stabbed him in the stomach, so that he died for the blood of Asahel his brother. アブネルがヘブロンに帰ってきたとき、ヨアブはひそかに語ろうといって彼を門のうちに連れて行き、その所で彼の腹を刺して死なせ、自分の兄弟アサヘルの血を報いた。

3 35 And when all the people came to persuade David to eat food while it was still day, David took an oath, saying, "God do so to me, and more also, if I taste bread or anything else till the sun goes down!" 民はみなきて、日のあるうちに、ダビデにパンを食べさせようとしたが、ダビデは誓って言った、「もしわたしが日の入る前に、パンでも、ほかのものでも味わうならば、神がわたしをいくえにも罰しられるように」。
3 36 Now all the people took note of it, and it pleased them, since whatever the king did pleased all the people. 民はみなそれを見て満足した。すべて王のすることは民を満足させた。
3 37 For all the people and all Israel understood that day that it had not been the king's intent to kill Abner the son of Ner. その日すべての民およびイスラエルは皆、ネルの子アブネルを殺したのは、王の意思によるものでないことを知った。
3 38 Then the king said to his servants, "Do you not know that a prince and a great man has fallen this day in Israel? 王はその家来たちに言った、「この日イスラエルで、ひとりの偉大なる将軍が倒れたのをあなたがたは知らないのか。
3 39 And I am weak today, though anointed king; and these men, the sons of Zeruiah, are too harsh for me. The Lord shall repay the evildoer according to his wickedness." わたしは油を注がれた王であるけれども、今日なお弱い。ゼルヤの子であるこれらの人々はわたしの手におえない。どうぞ主が悪を行う者に、その悪にしたがって報いられるように」。

4 2 Now Saul's son had two men who were captains of troops. The name of one was Baanah and the name of the other Rechab, the sons of Rimmon the Beerothite, of the children of Benjamin. 4 4 Jonathan, Saul's son, had a son who was lame in his feet. He was five years old when the news about Saul and Jonathan came from Jezreel; and his nurse took him up and fled. And it happened, as she made haste to flee, that he fell and became lame. 4 12 So David commanded his young men, and they executed them, cut off their hands and feet, and hanged them by the pool in Hebron. 5 3 Therefore all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and King David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord. And they anointed David king over Israel. このようにイスラエルの長老たちが皆、ヘブロンにいる王のもとにきたので、ダビデ王はヘブロンで主の前に彼らと契約を結んだ。そして彼らはダビデに油を注いでイスラエルの王とした。
5 4 David was thirty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned forty years. ダビデは王となったとき三十歳で、四十年の間、世を治めた。
5 5 In Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three years over all Israel and Judah. すなわちヘブロンで七年六か月ユダを治め、またエルサレムで三十三年、全イスラエルとユダを治めた。
5 6 And the king and his men went to Jerusalem against the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, who spoke to David, saying, "You shall not come in here; but the blind and the lame will repel you," thinking, "David cannot come in here." 王とその従者たちとはエルサレムへ行って、その地の住民エブスびとを攻めた。エブスびとはダビデに言った、「あなたはけっして、ここに攻め入ることはできない。かえって、めしいや足なえでも、あなたを追い払うであろう」。彼らが「ダビデはここに攻め入ることはできない」と思ったからである。
5 7 Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion (that is, the City of David). ところがダビデはシオンの要害を取った。これがダビデの町である。
5 8 Now David said on that day, "Whoever climbs up by way of the water shaft and defeats the Jebusites (the lame and the blind, who are hated by David's soul), he shall be chief and captain." Therefore they say, "The blind and the lame shall not come into the house." その日ダビデは、「だれでもエブスびとを撃とうとする人は、水をくみ上げる縦穴を上って行って、ダビデが心に憎んでいる足なえやめしいを撃て」と言った。それゆえに人々は、「めしいや足なえは、宮にはいってはならない」と言いならわしている。
5 9 Then David dwelt in the stronghold, and called it the City of David. And David built all around from the Millo and inward. ダビデはその要害に住んで、これをダビデの町と名づけた。またダビデはミロから内の周囲に城壁を築いた。
5 10 So David went on and became great, and the Lord God of hosts was with him. こうしてダビデはますます大いなる者となり、かつ万軍の神、主が彼と共におられた。
5 11 Then Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, and carpenters and masons. And they built David a house. ツロの王ヒラムはダビデに使者をつかわして、香柏および大工と石工を送った。彼らはダビデのために家を建てた。
5 12 So David knew that the Lord had established him as king over Israel, and that He had exalted His kingdom for the sake of His people Israel. そしてダビデは主が自分を堅く立ててイスラエルの王とされたこと、主がその民イスラエルのためにその王国を興されたことを悟った。
5 13 And David took more concubines and wives from Jerusalem, after he had come from Hebron. Also more sons and daughters were born to David. ダビデはヘブロンからきて後、さらにエルサレムで妻とそばめを入れたので、むすこと娘がまたダビデに生れた。

5 19 So David inquired of the Lord, saying, "Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?" 5 20 So David went to Baal Perazim, and David defeated them there; and he said, "The Lord has broken through my enemies before me, like a breakthrough of water." 6 2 And David arose and went with all the people who were with him from Baale Judah to bring up from there the ark of God, whose name is called by the Name, the Lord of Hosts, who dwells between the cherubim. そしてダビデは立って、自分と共にいるすべての民と共にバアレ・ユダへ行って、神の箱をそこからかき上ろうとした。この箱はケルビムの上に座しておられる万軍の主の名をもって呼ばれている。
6 3 So they set the ark of God on a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill; and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drove the new cart. 彼らは神の箱を新しい車に載せて、山の上にあるアビナダブの家から運び出した。
6 4 And they brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill, accompanying the ark of God; and Ahio went before the ark. アビナダブの子たち、ウザとアヒオとが神の箱を載せた新しい車を指揮し、ウザは神の箱のかたわらに沿い、アヒオは箱の前に進んだ。
6 5 Then David and all the house of Israel played music before the Lord on all kinds of instruments of fir wood, on harps, on stringed instruments, on tambourines, on sistrums, and on cymbals. ダビデとイスラエルの全家は琴と立琴と手鼓と鈴とシンバルとをもって歌をうたい、力をきわめて、主の前に踊った。
6 6 And when they came to Nachon's threshing floor, Uzzah put out his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen stumbled. 彼らがナコンの打ち場にきた時、ウザは神の箱に手を伸べて、それを押えた。牛がつまずいたからである。
6 7 Then the anger of the Lord was aroused against Uzzah, and God struck him there for his error; and he died there by the ark of God. すると主はウザに向かって怒りを発し、彼が手を箱に伸べたので、彼をその場で撃たれた。彼は神の箱のかたわらで死んだ。
6 8 And David became angry because of the Lord's outbreak against Uzzah; and he called the name of the place Perez Uzzah to this day. 主がウザを撃たれたので、ダビデは怒った。その所は今日までペレヅ・ウザと呼ばれている。
6 9 David was afraid of the Lord that day; and he said, "How can the ark of the Lord come to me?" その日ダビデは主を恐れて言った、「どうして主の箱がわたしの所に来ることができようか」。
6 10 So David would not move the ark of the Lord with him into the City of David; but David took it aside into the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite. ダビデは主の箱をダビデの町に入れることを好まず、これを移してガテびとオベデエドムの家に運ばせた。
6 11 The ark of the Lord remained in the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite three months. And the Lord blessed Obed-Edom and all his household. 神の箱はガテびとオベデエドムの家に三か月とどまった。主はオベデエドムとその全家を祝福された。
6 12 Now it was told King David, saying, "The Lord has blessed the house of Obed-Edom and all that belongs to him, because of the ark of God." So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with gladness. しかしダビデ王は、「主が神の箱のゆえに、オベデエドムの家とそのすべての所有を祝福されている」と聞き、ダビデは行って、喜びをもって、神の箱をオベデエドムの家からダビデの町にかき上った。
6 13 And so it was, when those bearing the ark of the Lord had gone six paces, that he sacrificed oxen and fatted sheep. 主の箱をかく者が六歩進んだ時、ダビデは牛と肥えた物を犠牲としてささげた。
6 14 Then David danced before the Lord with all his might; and David was wearing a linen ephod. そしてダビデは力をきわめて、主の箱の前で踊った。その時ダビデは亜麻布のエポデをつけていた。
6 15 So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting and with the sound of the trumpet. こうしてダビデとイスラエルの全家とは、喜びの叫びと角笛の音をもって、神の箱をかき上った。
6 16 Now as the ark of the Lord came into the City of David, Michal, Saul's daughter, looked through a window and saw King David leaping and whirling before the Lord; and she despised him in her heart. 主の箱がダビデの町にはいった時、サウルの娘ミカルは窓からながめ、ダビデ王が主の前に舞い踊るのを見て、心のうちにダビデをさげすんだ。
6 17 So they brought the ark of the Lord, and set it in its place in the midst of the tabernacle that David had erected for it. Then David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord. 人々は主の箱をかき入れて、ダビデがそのために張った天幕の中のその場所に置いた。そしてダビデは燔祭と酬恩祭を主の前にささげた。
6 18 And when David had finished offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord of hosts. ダビデは燔祭と酬恩祭をささげ終った時、万軍の主の名によって民を祝福した。
6 19 Then he distributed among all the people, among the whole multitude of Israel, both the women and the men, to everyone a loaf of bread, a piece of meat, and a cake of raisins. 6 20 Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, "How glorious was the king of Israel today, uncovering himself today in the eyes of the maids of his servants, as one of the base fellows shamelessly uncovers himself!" ダビデが家族を祝福しようとして帰ってきた時、サウルの娘ミカルはダビデを出迎えて言った、「きょうイスラエルの王はなんと威厳のあったことでしょう。いたずら者が、恥も知らず、その身を現すように、きょう家来たちのはしためらの前に自分の身を現されました」。
6 21 So David said to Michal, "It was before the Lord, who chose me instead of your father and all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the Lord, over Israel. Therefore I will play music before the Lord. ダビデはミカルに言った、「あなたの父よりも、またその全家よりも、むしろわたしを選んで、主の民イスラエルの君とせられた主の前に踊ったのだ。わたしはまた主の前に踊るであろう。
6 22 And I will be even more undignified than this, and will be humble in my own sight. But as for the maidservants of whom you have spoken, by them I will be held in honor." わたしはこれよりももっと軽んじられるようにしよう。そしてあなたの目には卑しめられるであろう。しかしわたしは、あなたがさきに言った、はしためたちに誉を得るであろう」。
6 23 Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no children to the day of her death. こうしてサウルの娘ミカルは死ぬ日まで子供がなかった。

7 7 Wherever I have moved about with all the children of Israel, have I ever spoken a word to anyone from the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to shepherd My people Israel, saying, 'Why have you not built Me a house of cedar?' 7 8 Now therefore, thus shall you say to My servant David, 'Thus says the Lord of hosts: "I took you from the sheepfold, from following the sheep, to be ruler over My people, over Israel. それゆえ、今あなたは、わたしのしもべダビデにこう言いなさい、『万軍の主はこう仰せられる。わたしはあなたを牧場から、羊に従っている所から取って、わたしの民イスラエルの君とし、
7 9 And I have been with you wherever you have gone, and have cut off all your enemies from before you, and have made you a great name, like the name of the great men who are on the earth. あなたがどこへ行くにも、あなたと共におり、あなたのすべての敵をあなたの前から断ち去った。わたしはまた地上の大いなる者の名のような大いなる名をあなたに得させよう。
7 10 Moreover I will appoint a place for My people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own and move no more; nor shall the sons of wickedness oppress them anymore, as previously, そしてわたしの民イスラエルのために一つの所を定めて、彼らを植えつけ、彼らを自分の所に住ませ、重ねて動くことのないようにするであろう。
7 11 since the time that I commanded judges to be over My people Israel, and have caused you to rest from all your enemies. Also the Lord tells you that He will make you a house. また前のように、わたしがわたしの民イスラエルの上にさばきづかさを立てた日からこのかたのように、悪人が重ねてこれを悩ますことはない。わたしはあなたのもろもろの敵を打ち退けて、あなたに安息を与えるであろう。主はまた「あなたのために家を造る」と仰せられる。
7 12 "When your days are fulfilled and you rest with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. あなたが日が満ちて、先祖たちと共に眠る時、わたしはあなたの身から出る子を、あなたのあとに立てて、その王国を堅くするであろう。

7 20 Now what more can David say to You? For You, Lord God, know Your servant. ダビデはこの上なにをあなたに申しあげることができましょう。主なる神よ、あなたはしもべを知っておられるのです。
7 21 For Your word's sake, and according to Your own heart, You have done all these great things, to make Your servant know them. あなたの約束のゆえに、またあなたの心に従って、あなたはこのもろもろの大いなる事を行い、しもべにそれを知らせられました。
7 22 Therefore You are great, O Lord God. For there is none like You, nor is there any God besides You, according to all that we have heard with our ears. 主なる神よ、あなたは偉大です。それは、われわれがすべて耳に聞いたところによれば、あなたのような者はなく、またあなたのほかに神はないからです。
7 23 And who is like Your people, like Israel, the one nation on the earth whom God went to redeem for Himself as a people, to make for Himself a name--and to do for Yourself great and awesome deeds for Your land--before Your people whom You redeemed for Yourself from Egypt, the nations, and their gods? 地のどの国民が、あなたの民イスラエルのようでありましょうか。これは神が行って、自分のためにあがなって民とし、自らの名をあげられたもの、また彼らのために大いなる恐るべきことをなし、その民の前から国びととその神々とを追い出されたものです。

8 6Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus; and the Syrians became David's servants, and brought tribute. The Lord preserved David wherever he went. そしてダビデはダマスコのスリヤに守備隊を置いた。スリヤびとは、ダビデのしもべとなって、みつぎを納めた。主はダビデにすべてその行く所で勝利を与えられた。

8 14 He also put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom he put garrisons, and all the Edomites became David's servants. And the Lord preserved David wherever he went. そしてエドムに守備隊を置いた。すなわちエドムの全地に守備隊を置き、エドムびとは皆ダビデのしもべとなった。主はダビデにすべてその行く所で勝利を与えられた。

8 16 Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the army; Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder; ゼルヤの子ヨアブは軍の長、アヒルデの子ヨシャパテは史官、

9 10 You therefore, and your sons and your servants, shall work the land for him, and you shall bring in the harvest, that your master's son may have food to eat. 10 12 Be of good courage, and let us be strong for our people and for the cities of our God. And may the Lord do what is good in His sight." 勇ましくしてください。われわれの民のため、われわれの神の町々のため、勇ましくしましょう。どうぞ主が良いと思われることをされるように」。
10 13 So Joab and the people who were with him drew near for the battle against the Syrians, and they fled before him. ヨアブが自分と一緒にいる民と共に、スリヤびとに向かって戦おうとして近づいたとき、スリヤびとは彼の前から逃げた。
10 14 When the people of Ammon saw that the Syrians were fleeing, they also fled before Abishai, and entered the city. So Joab returned from the people of Ammon and went to Jerusalem. アンモンの人々はスリヤびとが逃げるのを見て、彼らもまたアビシャイの前から逃げて町にはいった。そこでヨアブはアンモンの人々を撃つことをやめてエルサレムに帰った。

10 19 And when all the kings who were servants to Hadadezer saw that they were defeated by Israel, they made peace with Israel and served them. 11 1 It happened in the spring of the year, at the time when kings go out to battle, that David sent Joab and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the people of Ammon and besieged Rabbah. 11 11And Uriah said to David, "The ark and Israel and Judah are dwelling in tents, and my lord Joab and the servants of my lord are encamped in the open fields. Shall I then go to my house to eat and drink, and to lie with my wife? 11 20 if it happens that the king's wrath rises, and he says to you: 'Why did you approach so near to the city when you fought? Did you not know that they would shoot from the wall? もし王が怒りを起して、『あなたがたはなぜ戦おうとしてそんなに町に近づいたのか。彼らが城壁の上から射るのを知らなかったのか。
11 21 Who struck Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? Was it not a woman who cast a piece of a millstone on him from the wall, so that he died in Thebez? Why did you go near the wall?'--then you shall say, 'Your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.' 11 22 So the messenger went, and came and told David all that Joab had sent by him. こうして使者は行き、ダビデのもとにきて、ヨアブが言いつかわしたことをことごとく告げた。
11 23 And the messenger said to David, "Surely the men prevailed against us and came out to us in the field; then we drove them back as far as the entrance of the gate. 使者はダビデに言った、「敵はわれわれよりも有利な位置を占め、出てきてわれわれを野で攻めましたが、われわれは町の入口まで彼らを追い返しました。
11 24 The archers shot from the wall at your servants; and some of the king's servants are dead, and your servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also." その時、射手どもは城壁からあなたの家来たちを射ましたので、王の家来のある者は死に、また、あなたの家来ヘテびとウリヤも死にました」。
11 25 Then David said to the messenger, "Thus you shall say to Joab: 'Do not let this thing displease you, for the sword devours one as well as another. Strengthen your attack against the city, and overthrow it.' So encourage him." ダビデは使者に言った、「あなたはヨアブにこう言いなさい、『この事で心配することはない。つるぎはこれをも彼をも同じく滅ぼすからである。強く町を攻めて戦い、それを攻め落しなさい』と。そしてヨアブを励ましなさい」。
11 26 When the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she mourned for her husband. ウリヤの妻は夫ウリヤが死んだことを聞いて、夫のために悲しんだ。
11 27 And when her mourning was over, David sent and brought her to his house, and she became his wife and bore him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the Lord. その喪が過ぎた時、ダビデは人をつかわして彼女を自分の家に召し入れた。彼女は彼の妻となって男の子を産んだ。しかしダビデがしたこの事は主を怒らせた。

12 2 The rich man had exceedingly many flocks and herds. 富んでいる人は非常に多くの羊と牛を持っていたが、
12 3 But the poor man had nothing, except one little ewe lamb which he had bought and nourished; and it grew up together with him and with his children. 12 5 So David's anger was greatly aroused against the man, and he said to Nathan, "As the Lord lives, the man who has done this shall surely die! ダビデはその人の事をひじょうに怒ってナタンに言った、「主は生きておられる。この事をしたその人は死ぬべきである。
12 6 And he shall restore fourfold for the lamb, because he did this thing and because he had no pity." かつその人はこの事をしたため、またあわれまなかったため、その小羊を四倍にして償わなければならない」。
12 7 Then Nathan said to David, "You are the man! Thus says the Lord God of Israel: 'I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul. ナタンはダビデに言った、「あなたがその人です。イスラエルの神、主はこう仰せられる、『わたしはあなたに油を注いでイスラエルの王とし、あなたをサウルの手から救いだし、
12 8 I gave you your master's house and your master's wives into your keeping, and gave you the house of Israel and Judah. And if that had been too little, I also would have given you much more! あなたに主人の家を与え、主人の妻たちをあなたのふところに与え、またイスラエルとユダの家をあなたに与えた。もし少なかったならば、わたしはもっと多くのものをあなたに増し加えたであろう。
12 9 Why have you despised the commandment of the Lord, to do evil in His sight? You have killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword; you have taken his wife to be your wife, and have killed him with the sword of the people of Ammon. どうしてあなたは主の言葉を軽んじ、その目の前に悪事をおこなったのですか。あなたはつるぎをもってヘテびとウリヤを殺し、その妻をとって自分の妻とした。すなわちアンモンの人々のつるぎをもって彼を殺した。
12 10 Now therefore, the sword shall never depart from your house, because you have despised Me, and have taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be your wife.' あなたがわたしを軽んじてヘテびとウリヤの妻をとり、自分の妻としたので、つるぎはいつまでもあなたの家を離れないであろう』。
12 11 Thus says the Lord: 'Behold, I will raise up adversity against you from your own house; and I will take your wives before your eyes and give them to your neighbor, and he shall lie with your wives in the sight of this sun. 主はこう仰せられる、『見よ、わたしはあなたの家からあなたの上に災を起すであろう。わたしはあなたの目の前であなたの妻たちを取って、隣びとに与えるであろう。その人はこの太陽の前で妻たちと一緒に寝るであろう。

12 13 So David said to Nathan, "I have sinned against the Lord." And Nathan said to David, "The Lord also has put away your sin; you shall not die. ダビデはナタンに言った、「わたしは主に罪をおかしました」。ナタンはダビデに言った、「主もまたあなたの罪を除かれました。あなたは死ぬことはないでしょう。
12 14 However, because by this deed you have given great occasion to the enemies of the Lord to blaspheme, the child also who is born to you shall surely die." しかしあなたはこの行いによって大いに主を侮ったので、あなたに生れる子供はかならず死ぬでしょう」。
12 15Then Nathan departed to his house.And the Lord struck the child that Uriah's wife bore to David, and it became ill. こうしてナタンは家に帰った。さて主は、ウリヤの妻がダビデに産んだ子を撃たれたので、病気になった。
12 16 David therefore pleaded with God for the child, and David fasted and went in and lay all night on the ground. ダビデはその子のために神に嘆願した。すなわちダビデは断食して、へやにはいり終夜地に伏した。
12 17 So the elders of his house arose and went to him, to raise him up from the ground. But he would not, nor did he eat food with them. ダビデの家の長老たちは、彼のかたわらに立って彼を地から起そうとしたが、彼は起きようとはせず、また彼らと一緒に食事をしなかった。
12 18 Then on the seventh day it came to pass that the child died. And the servants of David were afraid to tell him that the child was dead. For they said, "Indeed, while the child was alive, we spoke to him, and he would not heed our voice. How can we tell him that the child is dead? 12 19 When David saw that his servants were whispering, David perceived that the child was dead. Therefore David said to his servants, "Is the child dead?" And they said, "He is dead." しかしダビデは、家来たちが互にささやき合うのを見て、その子の死んだのを悟り、家来たちに言った、「子は死んだのか」。彼らは言った、「死なれました」。
12 20 So David arose from the ground, washed and anointed himself, and changed his clothes; and he went into the house of the Lord and worshiped. Then he went to his own house; and when he requested, they set food before him, and he ate. そこで、ダビデは地から起き上がり、身を洗い、油をぬり、その着物を替えて、主の家にはいって拝した。そののち自分の家に行き、求めて自分のために食物を備えさせて食べた。
12 21 Then his servants said to him, "What is this that you have done? You fasted and wept for the child while he was alive, but when the child died, you arose and ate food." 家来たちは彼に言った、「あなたのなさったこの事はなんでしょうか。あなたは子の生きている間はその子のために断食して泣かれました。しかし子が死ぬと、あなたは起きて食事をなさいました」。
12 22 And he said, "While the child was alive, I fasted and wept; for I said, 'Who can tell whether the Lord will be gracious to me, that the child may live?' ダビデは言った、「子の生きている間に、わたしが断食して泣いたのは、『主がわたしをあわれんで、この子を生かしてくださるかも知れない』と思ったからです。
12 23But now he is dead; why should I fast? Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me." しかし今は死んだので、わたしはどうして断食しなければならないでしょうか。わたしは再び彼をかえらせることができますか。わたしは彼の所に行くでしょうが、彼はわたしの所に帰ってこないでしょう」。
12 24 Then David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in to her and lay with her. So she bore a son, and he called his name Solomon. Now the Lord loved him, ダビデは妻バテシバを慰め、彼女の所にはいって、彼女と共に寝たので、彼女は男の子を産んだ。ダビデはその名をソロモンと名づけた。主はこれを愛された。
12 25 and He sent word by the hand of Nathan the prophet: So he called his name Jedidiah, because of the Lord. そして預言者ナタンをつかわし、命じてその名をエデデアと呼ばせられた。
12 26 Now Joab fought against Rabbah of the people of Ammon, and took the royal city. さてヨアブはアンモンの人々のラバを攻めて王の町を取った。
12 27 And Joab sent messengers to David, and said, "I have fought against Rabbah, and I have taken the city's water supply. ヨアブは使者をダビデにつかわして言った、「わたしはラバを攻めて水の町を取りました。
12 28 Now therefore, gather the rest of the people together and encamp against the city and take it, lest I take the city and it be called after my name." あなたは今、残りの民を集め、この町に向かって陣をしき、これを取りなさい。わたしがこの町を取って、人がわたしの名をもって、これを呼ぶようにならないためです」。
12 29 So David gathered all the people together and went to Rabbah, fought against it, and took it. そこでダビデは民をことごとく集めてラバへ行き、攻めてこれを取った。
12 30 Then he took their king's crown from his head. Its weight was a talent of gold, with precious stones. And it was set on David's head. Also he brought out the spoil of the city in great abundance. そしてダビデは彼らの王の冠をその頭から取りはなした。それは金で重さは一タラントであった。宝石がはめてあり、それをダビデの頭に置いた。ダビデはその町からぶんどり物を非常に多く持ち出した。
12 31 And he brought out the people who were in it, and put them to work with saws and iron picks and iron axes, and made them cross over to the brick works. So he did to all the cities of the people of Ammon. Then David and all the people returned to Jerusalem. またダビデはそのうちの民を引き出して、彼らをのこぎりや、鉄のつるはし、鉄のおのを使う仕事につかせ、また、れんが造りの労役につかせた。彼はアンモンの人々のすべての町にこのようにした。そしてダビデと民とは皆エルサレムに帰った。

13 1 After this Absalom the son of David had a lovely sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her. さてダビデの子アブサロムには名をタマルという美しい妹があったが、その後ダビデの子アムノンはこれを恋した。
13 2 Amnon was so distressed over his sister Tamar that he became sick; for she was a virgin. And it was improper for Amnon to do anything to her. アムノンは妹タマルのために悩んでついにわずらった。それはタマルが処女であって、アムノンは彼女に何事もすることができないと思ったからである。
13 3 But Amnon had a friend whose name was Jonadab the son of Shimeah, David's brother. Now Jonadab was a very crafty man. ところがアムノンにはひとりの友だちがあった。名をヨナダブといい、ダビデの兄弟シメアの子である。ヨナダブはひじょうに賢い人であった。
13 4 And he said to him, "Why are you, the king's son, becoming thinner day after day? Will you not tell me?" Amnon said to him, "I love Tamar, my brother Absalom's sister." 彼はアムノンに言った、「王子よ、あなたは、どうして朝ごとに、そんなにやせ衰えるのですか。わたしに話さないのですか」。アムノンは彼に言った、「わたしは兄弟アブサロムの妹タマルを恋しているのです」。
13 5 So Jonadab said to him, "Lie down on your bed and pretend to be ill. And when your father comes to see you, say to him, 'Please let my sister Tamar come and give me food, and prepare the food in my sight, that I may see it and eat it from her hand.' 13 6 Then Amnon lay down and pretended to be ill; and when the king came to see him, Amnon said to the king, "Please let Tamar my sister come and make a couple of cakes for me in my sight, that I may eat from her hand." そこでアムノンは横になって病と偽ったが、王がきて彼を見た時、アムノンは王に言った、「どうぞわたしの妹タマルをこさせ、わたしの目の前で二つの菓子を作らせて、彼女の手からわたしが食べることのできるようにしてください」。
13 7 And David sent home to Tamar, saying, "Now go to your brother Amnon's house, and prepare food for him." ダビデはタマルの家に人をつかわして言わせた、「あなたの兄アムノンの家へ行って、彼のために食物をととのえなさい」。
13 8 So Tamar went to her brother Amnon's house; and he was lying down. Then she took flour and kneaded it, made cakes in his sight, and baked the cakes. そこでタマルはその兄アムノンの家へ行ったところ、アムノンは寝ていた。タマルは粉を取って、これをこね、彼の目の前で、菓子を作り、その菓子を焼き、
13 9 And she took the pan and placed them out before him, but he refused to eat. Then Amnon said, "Have everyone go out from me." And they all went out from him. なべを取って彼の前にそれをあけた。しかし彼は食べることを拒んだ。そしてアムノンは、「みな、わたしを離れて出てください」と言ったので、皆、彼を離れて出た。
13 10 Then Amnon said to Tamar, "Bring the food into the bedroom, that I may eat from your hand." And Tamar took the cakes which she had made, and brought them to Amnon her brother in the bedroom. アムノンはタマルに言った、「食物を寝室に持ってきてください。わたしはあなたの手から食べます」。そこでタマルは自分の作った菓子をとって、寝室にはいり兄アムノンの所へ持っていった。
13 11 Now when she had brought them to him to eat, he took hold of her and said to her, "Come, lie with me, my sister." タマルが彼に食べさせようとして近くに持って行った時、彼はタマルを捕えて彼女に言った、「妹よ、来て、わたしと寝なさい」。
13 12 And she answered him, "No, my brother, do not force me, for no such thing should be done in Israel. Do not do this disgraceful thing! タマルは言った、「いいえ、兄上よ、わたしをはずかしめてはなりません。このようなことはイスラエルでは行われません。この愚かなことをしてはなりません。
13 13 And I, where could I take my shame? And as for you, you would be like one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, please speak to the king; for he will not withhold me from you." わたしの恥をわたしはどこへ持って行くことができましょう。あなたはイスラエルの愚か者のひとりとなるでしょう。それゆえ、どうぞ王に話してください。王がわたしをあなたに与えないことはないでしょう」。
13 14However, he would not heed her voice; and being stronger than she, he forced her and lay with her. しかしアムノンは彼女の言うことを聞こうともせず、タマルよりも強かったので、タマルをはずかしめてこれと共に寝た。
13 15 Then Amnon hated her exceedingly, so that the hatred with which he hated her was greater than the love with which he had loved her. And Amnon said to her, "Arise, be gone!" それからアムノンは、ひじょうに深くタマルを憎むようになった。彼女を憎む憎しみは、彼女を恋した恋よりも大きかった。アムノンは彼女に言った、「立って、行きなさい」。

13 18 Now she had on a robe of many colors, for the king's virgin daughters wore such apparel. And his servant put her out and bolted the door behind her. この時、タマルは長そでの着物を着ていた。昔、王の姫たちの処女である者はこのような着物を着たからである。アムノンのしもべは彼女を外に出して、そのあとに戸を閉ざした。
13 19 Then Tamar put ashes on her head, and tore her robe of many colors that was on her, and laid her hand on her head and went away crying bitterly. タマルは灰を頭にかぶり、着ていた長そでの着物を裂き、手を頭にのせて、叫びながら去って行った。
13 20 And Absalom her brother said to her, "Has Amnon your brother been with you? But now hold your peace, my sister. He is your brother; do not take this thing to heart." So Tamar remained desolate in her brother Absalom's house. 兄アブサロムは彼女に言った、「兄アムノンがあなたと一緒にいたのか。しかし妹よ、今は黙っていなさい。彼はあなたの兄です。この事を心にとめなくてよろしい」。こうしてタマルは兄アブサロムの家に寂しく住んでいた。
13 21 But when King David heard of all these things, he was very angry. ダビデ王はこれらの事をことごとく聞いて、ひじょうに怒った。
13 22 And Absalom spoke to his brother Amnon neither good nor bad. For Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar. アブサロムはアムノンに良いことも悪いことも語ることをしなかった。それはアムノンがアブサロムの妹タマルをはずかしめたので、アブサロムが彼を憎んでいたからである。
13 23 And it came to pass, after two full years, that Absalom had sheepshearers in Baal Hazor, which is near Ephraim; so Absalom invited all the king's sons. 満二年の後、アブサロムはエフライムの近くにあるバアル・ハゾルで羊の毛を切らせていた時、王の子たちをことごとく招いた。
13 24 Then Absalom came to the king and said, "Kindly note, your servant has sheepshearers; please, let the king and his servants go with your servant." そしてアブサロムは王のもとにきて言った、「見よ、しもべは羊の毛を切らせております。どうぞ王も王の家来たちも、しもべと共にきてください」。
13 25 But the king said to Absalom, "No, my son, let us not all go now, lest we be a burden to you." Then he urged him, but he would not go; and he blessed him. 王はアブサロムに言った、「いいえ、わが子よ、われわれが皆行ってはならない。あなたの重荷になるといけないから」。アブサロムはダビデにしいて願った。しかしダビデは行くことを承知せず彼に祝福を与えた。
13 26 Then Absalom said, "If not, please let my brother Amnon go with us." And the king said to him, "Why should he go with you?" そこでアブサロムは言った、「それでは、どうぞわたしの兄アムノンをわれわれと共に行かせてください」。王は彼に言った、「どうして彼があなたと共に行かなければならないのか」。
13 27 But Absalom urged him; so he let Amnon and all the king's sons go with him. しかしアブサロムは彼にしいて願ったので、ついにアムノンと王の子たちを皆、アブサロムと共に行かせた。
13 28 Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, "Watch now, when Amnon's heart is merry with wine, and when I say to you, 'Strike Amnon!' then kill him. Do not be afraid. Have I not commanded you? Be courageous and valiant." そこでアブサロムは若者たちに命じて言った、「アムノンが酒を飲んで、心楽しくなった時を見すまし、わたしがあなたがたに、『アムノンを撃て』と言う時、彼を殺しなさい。恐れることはない。わたしが命じるのではないか。雄々しくしなさい。勇ましくしなさい」。
13 29 So the servants of Absalom did to Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king's sons arose, and each one got on his mule and fled. アブサロムの若者たちはアブサロムの命じたようにアムノンにおこなったので、王の子たちは皆立って、おのおのその騾馬に乗って逃げた。
13 30 And it came to pass, while they were on the way, that news came to David, saying, "Absalom has killed all the king's sons, and not one of them is left!" 彼らがまだ着かないうちに、「アブサロムは王の子たちをことごとく殺して、ひとりも残っている者がない」という知らせがダビデに達したので、
13 31 So the king arose and tore his garments and lay on the ground, and all his servants stood by with their clothes torn. 王は立ち、その着物を裂いて、地に伏した。そのかたわらに立っていた家来たちも皆その着物を裂いた。
13 32 Then Jonadab the son of Shimeah, David's brother, answered and said, "Let not my lord suppose they have killed all the young men, the king's sons, for only Amnon is dead. For by the command of Absalom this has been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar. しかしダビデの兄弟シメアの子ヨナダブは言った、「わが主よ、王の子たちである若者たちがみな殺されたと、お考えになってはなりません。アムノンだけが死んだのです。これは彼がアブサロムの妹タマルをはずかしめた日から、アブサロムの命によって定められていたことなのです。
13 33 Now therefore, let not my lord the king take the thing to his heart, to think that all the king's sons are dead. For only Amnon is dead." それゆえ、わが主、王よ、王の子たちが皆死んだと思って、この事を心にとめられてはなりません。アムノンだけが死んだのです」。
13 34 Then Absalom fled. And the young man who was keeping watch lifted his eyes and looked, and there, many people were coming from the road on the hillside behind him. アブサロムはのがれた。時に見張りをしていた若者が目をあげて見ると、山のかたわらのホロナイムの道から多くの民の来るのが見えた。
13 35 And Jonadab said to the king, "Look, the king's sons are coming; as your servant said, so it is." ヨナダブは王に言った、「見よ、王の子たちがきました。しもべの言ったとおりです」。
13 36 So it was, as soon as he had finished speaking, that the king's sons indeed came, and they lifted up their voice and wept. Also the king and all his servants wept very bitterly. 彼が語ることを終った時、王の子たちはきて声をあげて泣いた。王もその家来たちも皆、非常にはげしく泣いた。
13 37 But Absalom fled and went to Talmai the son of Ammihud, king of Geshur. And David mourned for his son every day. しかしアブサロムはのがれて、ゲシュルの王アミホデの子タルマイのもとに行った。ダビデは日々その子のために悲しんだ。
13 38 So Absalom fled and went to Geshur, and was there three years. アブサロムはのがれてゲシュルに行き、三年の間そこにいた。
13 39 And King David longed to go to Absalom. For he had been comforted concerning Amnon, because he was dead. 王は心に、アブサロムに会うことを、せつに望んだ。アムノンは死んでしまい、ダビデが彼のことはあきらめていたからである。

14 2 And Joab sent to Tekoa and brought from there a wise woman, and said to her, "Please pretend to be a mourner, and put on mourning apparel; do not anoint yourself with oil, but act like a woman who has been mourning a long time for the dead. そこでヨアブはテコアに人をつかわして、そこからひとりの賢い女を連れてこさせ、その女に言った、「あなたは悲しみのうちにある人をよそおって、喪服を着、油を身に塗らず、死んだ人のために長いあいだ悲しんでいる女のように、よそおって、

14 4 And when the woman of Tekoa spoke to the king, she fell on her face to the ground and prostrated herself, and said, "Help, O king!" テコアの女は王のもとに行き、地に伏して拝し、「王よ、お助けください」と言った。
14 5 Then the king said to her, "What troubles you?" And she answered, "Indeed I am a widow, my husband is dead. 王は女に言った、「どうしたのか」。女は言った、「まことにわたしは寡婦でありまして、夫は死にました。
14 6 Now your maidservant had two sons; and the two fought with each other in the field, and there was no one to part them, but the one struck the other and killed him. つかえめにはふたりの子どもがあり、ふたりは野で争いましたが、だれも彼らを引き分ける者がなかったので、ひとりはついに他の者を撃って殺しました。
14 7 And now the whole family has risen up against your maidservant, and they said, 'Deliver him who struck his brother, that we may execute him for the life of his brother whom he killed; and we will destroy the heir also.' So they would extinguish my ember that is left, and leave to my husband neither name nor remnant on the earth." すると全家族がつかえめに逆らい立って、『兄弟を撃ち殺した者を引き渡すがよい。われわれは彼が殺したその兄弟の命のために彼を殺そう』と言い、彼らは世継をも殺そうとしました。こうして彼らは残っているわたしの炭火を消して、わたしの夫の名をも、跡継をも、地のおもてにとどめないようにしようとしています」。
14 8 Then the king said to the woman, "Go to your house, and I will give orders concerning you." 王は女に言った、「家に帰りなさい。わたしはあなたのことについて命令を下します」。
14 9 And the woman of Tekoa said to the king, "My lord, O king, let the iniquity be on me and on my father's house, and the king and his throne be guiltless." テコアの女は王に言った、「わが主、王よ、わたしとわたしの父の家にその罪を帰してください。どうぞ王と王の位には罪がありませんように」。
14 10 So the king said, "Whoever says anything to you, bring him to me, and he shall not touch you anymore." 王は言った、「もしあなたに何か言う者があれば、わたしの所に連れてきなさい。そうすれば、その人は重ねてあなたに触れることはないでしょう」。
14 11 Then she said, "Please let the king remember the Lord your God, and do not permit the avenger of blood to destroy anymore, lest they destroy my son." And he said, "As the Lord lives, not one hair of your son shall fall to the ground." 女は言った、「どうぞ王が、あなたの神、主をおぼえて、血の報復をする者に重ねて滅ぼすことをさせず、わたしの子の殺されることのないようにしてください」。王は言った、「主は生きておられる。あなたの子の髪の毛一筋も地に落ちることはないでしょう」。
14 12 Therefore the woman said, "Please, let your maidservant speak another word to my lord the king." And he said, "Say on." 女は言った、「どうぞ、つかえめにひと言、わが主、王に言わせてください」。ダビデは言った、「言いなさい」。
14 13 So the woman said: "Why then have you schemed such a thing against the people of God? For the king speaks this thing as one who is guilty, in that the king does not bring his banished one home again. 女は言った、「あなたは、それならばどうして、神の民に向かってこのような事を図られたのですか。王は今この事を言われたことによって自分を罪ある者とされています。それは王が追放された者を帰らせられないからです。
14 14 For we will surely die and become like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again. Yet God does not take away a life; but He devises means, so that His banished ones are not expelled from Him. わたしたちはみな死ななければなりません。地にこぼれた水の再び集めることのできないのと同じです。しかし神は、追放された者が捨てられないように、てだてを設ける人の命を取ることはなさいません。
14 15 Now therefore, I have come to speak of this thing to my lord the king because the people have made me afraid. And your maidservant said, 'I will now speak to the king; it may be that the king will perform the request of his maidservant. わたしがこの事を王、わが主に言おうとして来たのは、わたしが民を恐れたからです。つかえめは、こう思ったのです、『王に申し上げよう。王は、はしための願いのようにしてくださるかもしれない。
14 16For the king will hear and deliver his maidservant from the hand of the man who would destroy me and my son together from the inheritance of God.' 王は聞いてくださる。わたしとわたしの子を共に滅ぼして神の嗣業から離れさせようとする人の手から、はしためを救い出してくださるのだから』。
14 17 Your maidservant said, 'The word of my lord the king will now be comforting; for as the angel of God, so is my lord the king in discerning good and evil. And may the Lord your God be with you.' " つかえめはまた、こう思ったのです、『王、わが主の言葉はわたしを安心させるであろう』と。それは王、わが主は神の使のように善と悪を聞きわけられるからです。どうぞあなたの神、主があなたと共におられますように」。
14 18 Then the king answered and said to the woman, "Please do not hide from me anything that I ask you." And the woman said, "Please, let my lord the king speak." 王は女に答えて言った、「わたしが問うことに隠さず答えてください」。女は言った、「王、わが主よ、どうぞ言ってください」。
14 19 So the king said, "Is the hand of Joab with you in all this?" And the woman answered and said, "As you live, my lord the king, no one can turn to the right hand or to the left from anything that my lord the king has spoken. For your servant Joab commanded me, and he put all these words in the mouth of your maidservant. 王は言った、「このすべての事において、ヨアブの手があなたと共にありますか」。女は答えた、「あなたはたしかに生きておられます。王、わが主よ、すべて王、わが主の言われた事から人は右にも左にも曲ることはできません。わたしに命じたのは、あなたのしもべヨアブです。彼がつかえめの口に、これらの言葉をことごとく授けたのです。
14 20 To bring about this change of affairs your servant Joab has done this thing; but my lord is wise, according to the wisdom of the angel of God, to know everything that is in the earth." 事のなりゆきを変えるため、あなたのしもべヨアブがこの事をしたのです。わが君には神の使の知恵のような知恵があって、地の上のすべてのことを知っておられます」。
14 21 And the king said to Joab, "All right, I have granted this thing. Go therefore, bring back the young man Absalom." そこで王はヨアブに言った、「この事を許す。行って、若者アブサロムを連れ帰るがよい」。
14 22 Then Joab fell to the ground on his face and bowed himself, and thanked the king. And Joab said, "Today your servant knows that I have found favor in your sight, my lord, O king, in that the king has fulfilled the request of his servant." ヨアブは地にひれ伏して拝し、王を祝福した。そしてヨアブは言った、「わが主、王よ、王がしもべの願いを許されたので、きょうしもべは、あなたの前に恵みを得たことを知りました」。
14 23 So Joab arose and went to Geshur, and brought Absalom to Jerusalem. そこでヨアブは立ってゲシュルに行き、アブサロムをエルサレムに連れてきた。
14 24 And the king said, "Let him return to his own house, but do not let him see my face." So Absalom returned to his own house, but did not see the king's face. 王は言った、「彼を自分の家に引きこもらせるがよい。わたしの顔を見てはならない」。こうしてアブサロムは自分の家に引きこもり、王の顔を見なかった。
14 25 Now in all Israel there was no one who was praised as much as Absalom for his good looks. From the sole of his foot to the crown of his head there was no blemish in him. さて全イスラエルのうちにアブサロムのように、美しさのためほめられた人はなかった。その足の裏から頭の頂まで彼には傷がなかった。
14 26 And when he cut the hair of his head--at the end of every year he cut it because it was heavy on him--when he cut it, he weighed the hair of his head at two hundred shekels according to the king's standard. アブサロムがその頭を刈る時、その髪の毛をはかったが、王のはかりで二百シケルあった。毎年の終りにそれを刈るのを常とした。それが重くなると、彼はそれを刈ったのである。
14 27 To Absalom were born three sons, and one daughter whose name was Tamar. She was a woman of beautiful appearance. アブサロムに三人のむすこと、タマルという名のひとりの娘が生れた。タマルは美しい女であった。
14 28 And Absalom dwelt two full years in Jerusalem, but did not see the king's face. こうしてアブサロムは満二年の間エルサレムに住んだが、王の顔を見なかった。
14 29Therefore Absalom sent for Joab, to send him to the king, but he would not come to him. And when he sent again the second time, he would not come. そこでアブサロムはヨアブを王のもとにつかわそうとして、ヨアブの所に人をつかわしたが、ヨアブは彼の所にこようとはしなかった。彼は再び人をつかわしたがヨアブはこようとはしなかった。
14 30 So he said to his servants, "See, Joab's field is near mine, and he has barley there; go and set it on fire." And Absalom's servants set the field on fire. そこでアブサロムはその家来に言った、「ヨアブの畑はわたしの畑の隣にあって、そこに大麦がある。行ってそれに火を放ちなさい」。アブサロムの家来たちはその畑に火を放った。
14 31 Then Joab arose and came to Absalom's house, and said to him, "Why have your servants set my field on fire?" ヨアブは立ってアブサロムの家にきて彼に言った、「どうしてあなたの家来たちはわたしの畑に火を放ったのですか」。
14 32 And Absalom answered Joab, "Look, I sent to you, saying, 'Come here, so that I may send you to the king, to say, "Why have I come from Geshur? It would be better for me to be there still." ' Now therefore, let me see the king's face; but if there is iniquity in me, let him execute me." アブサロムはヨアブに言った、「わたしはあなたに人をつかわして、ここへ来るようにと言ったのです。あなたを王のもとにつかわし、『なんのためにわたしはゲシュルからきたのですか。なおあそこにいたならば良かったでしょうに』と言わせようとしたのです。それゆえ今わたしに王の顔を見させてください。もしわたしに罪があるなら王にわたしを殺させてください」。
14 33 So Joab went to the king and told him. And when he had called for Absalom, he came to the king and bowed himself on his face to the ground before the king. Then the king kissed Absalom. そこでヨアブは王のもとへ行って告げたので、王はアブサロムを召しよせた。彼は王のもとにきて、王の前に地にひれ伏して拝した。王はアブサロムに口づけした。

15 1 After this it happened that Absalom provided himself with chariots and horses, and fifty men to run before him. この後、アブサロムは自分のために戦車と馬、および自分の前に駆ける者五十人を備えた。
15 2 Now Absalom would rise early and stand beside the way to the gate. So it was, whenever anyone who had a lawsuit came to the king for a decision, that Absalom would call to him and say, "What city are you from?" And he would say, "Your servant is from such and such a tribe of Israel." アブサロムは早く起きて門の道のかたわらに立つのを常とした。人が訴えがあって王に裁判を求めに来ると、アブサロムはその人を呼んで言った、「あなたはどの町の者ですか」。その人が「しもべはイスラエルのこれこれの部族のものです」と言うと、
15 3 Then Absalom would say to him, "Look, your case is good and right; but there is no deputy of the king to hear you." アブサロムはその人に言った、「見よ、あなたの要求は良く、また正しい。しかしあなたのことを聞くべき人は王がまだ立てていない」。
15 4 Moreover Absalom would say, "Oh, that I were made judge in the land, and everyone who has any suit or cause would come to me; then I would give him justice." アブサロムはまた言った、「ああ、わたしがこの地のさばきびとであったならばよいのに。そうすれば訴え、または申立てのあるものは、皆わたしの所にきて、わたしはこれに公平なさばきを行うことができるのだが」。
15 5 And so it was, whenever anyone came near to bow down to him, that he would put out his hand and take him and kiss him. そして人が彼に敬礼しようとして近づくと、彼は手を伸べ、その人を抱きかかえて口づけした。
15 6 In this manner Absalom acted toward all Israel who came to the king for judgment. So Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel. アブサロムは王にさばきを求めて来るすべてのイスラエルびとにこのようにした。こうしてアブサロムはイスラエルの人々の心を自分のものとした。
15 7 Now it came to pass after forty years that Absalom said to the king, "Please, let me go to Hebron and pay the vow which I made to the Lord. そして四年の終りに、アブサロムは王に言った、「どうぞわたしを行かせ、ヘブロンで、かつて主に立てた誓いを果させてください。
15 8 For your servant took a vow while I dwelt at Geshur in Syria, saying, 'If the Lord indeed brings me back to Jerusalem, then I will serve the Lord.' " それは、しもべがスリヤのゲシュルにいた時、誓いを立てて、『もし主がほんとうにわたしをエルサレムに連れ帰ってくださるならば、わたしは主に礼拝をささげます』と言ったからです」。
15 9 And the king said to him, "Go in peace." So he arose and went to Hebron. 王が彼に、「安らかに行きなさい」と言ったので、彼は立ってヘブロンへ行った。
15 10 Then Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, "As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpet, then you shall say, 'Absalom reigns in Hebron!' " そしてアブサロムは密使をイスラエルのすべての部族のうちにつかわして言った、「ラッパの響きを聞くならば、『アブサロムがヘブロンで王となった』と言いなさい」。
15 11 And with Absalom went two hundred men invited from Jerusalem, and they went along innocently and did not know anything. 二百人の招かれた者がエルサレムからアブサロムと共に行った。彼らは何心なく行き、何事をも知らなかった。
15 12 Then Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David's counselor, from his city--from Giloh--while he offered sacrifices. And the conspiracy grew strong, for the people with Absalom continually increased in number. アブサロムは犠牲をささげている間に人をつかわして、ダビデの議官ギロびとアヒトペルを、その町ギロから呼び寄せた。徒党は強く、民はしだいにアブサロムに加わった。

15 14So David said to all his servants who were with him at Jerusalem, "Arise, and let us flee; or we shall not escape from Absalom. 15 15 And the king's servants said to the king, "We are your servants, ready to do whatever my lord the king commands." 王のしもべたちは王に言った、「しもべたちは、わが主君、王の選ばれる所をすべて行います」。
15 16 Then the king went out with all his household after him. But the king left ten women, concubines, to keep the house. こうして王は出て行き、その全家は彼に従った。王は十人のめかけを残して家を守らせた。
15 17 And the king went out with all the people after him, and stopped at the outskirts. 王は出て行き、民はみな彼に従った。彼らは町はずれの家にとどまった。
15 18 Then all his servants passed before him; and all the Cherethites, all the Pelethites, and all the Gittites, six hundred men who had followed him from Gath, passed before the king. 彼のしもべたちは皆、彼のかたわらを進み、すべてのケレテびとと、すべてのペレテびと、および彼に従ってガテからきた六百人のガテびとは皆、王の前に進んだ。
15 19 Then the king said to Ittai the Gittite, "Why are you also going with us? Return and remain with the king. For you are a foreigner and also an exile from your own place. 時に王はガテびとイッタイに言った、「どうしてあなたもまた、われわれと共に行くのですか。あなたは帰って王と共にいなさい。あなたは外国人で、また自分の国から追放された者だからです。
15 20 In fact, you came only yesterday. Should I make you wander up and down with us today, since I go I know not where? Return, and take your brethren back. 15 21 And Ittai answered the king and said, "As the Lord lives, and as my lord the king lives, surely in whatever place my lord the king shall be, whether in death or life, even there also your servant will be." しかしイッタイは王に答えた、「主は生きておられる。わが君、王は生きておられる。わが君、王のおられる所に、死ぬも生きるも、しもべもまたそこにおります」。
15 22 So David said to Ittai, "Go, and cross over." Then Ittai the Gittite and all his men and all the little ones who were with him crossed over. ダビデはイッタイに言った、「では進んで行きなさい」。そこでガテびとイッタイは進み、また彼のすべての従者および彼と共にいた子どもたちも皆、進んだ。
15 23 And all the country wept with a loud voice, and all the people crossed over. The king himself also crossed over the Brook Kidron, and all the people crossed over toward the way of the wilderness. 国中みな大声で泣いた。民はみな進んだ。王もまたキデロンの谷を渡って進み、民は皆進んで荒野の方に向かった。
15 24 There was Zadok also, and all the Levites with him, bearing the ark of the covenant of God. And they set down the ark of God, and Abiathar went up until all the people had finished crossing over from the city. そしてアビヤタルも上ってきた。見よ、ザドクおよび彼と共にいるすべてのレビびともまた、神の契約の箱をかいてきた。彼らは神の箱をおろして、民がことごとく町を出てしまうのを待った。
15 25Then the king said to Zadok, "Carry the ark of God back into the city. If I find favor in the eyes of the Lord, He will bring me back and show me both it and His dwelling place. そこで王はザドクに言った、「神の箱を町にかきもどすがよい。もしわたしが主の前に恵みを得るならば、主はわたしを連れ帰って、わたしにその箱とそのすまいとを見させてくださるであろう。
15 26But if He says thus: 'I have no delight in you,' here I am, let Him do to me as seems good to Him." しかしもし主が、『わたしはおまえを喜ばない』とそう言われるのであれば、どうぞ主が良しと思われることをわたしにしてくださるように。わたしはここにおります」。
15 27 The king also said to Zadok the priest, "Are you not a seer? Return to the city in peace, and your two sons with you, Ahimaaz your son, and Jonathan the son of Abiathar. 王はまた祭司ザドクに言った、「見よ、あなたもアビヤタルも、ふたりの子たち、すなわちあなたの子アヒマアズとアビヤタルの子ヨナタンを連れて、安らかに町に帰りなさい。
15 28 See, I will wait in the plains of the wilderness until word comes from you to inform me." わたしはあなたがたから言葉があって知らせをうけるまで、荒野の渡し場にとどまります」。
15 29 Therefore Zadok and Abiathar carried the ark of God back to Jerusalem. And they remained there. そこでザドクとアビヤタルは神の箱をエルサレムにかきもどり、そこにとどまった。
15 30 So David went up by the Ascent of the Mount of Olives, and wept as he went up; and he had his head covered and went barefoot. And all the people who were with him covered their heads and went up, weeping as they went up. ダビデはオリブ山の坂道を登ったが、登る時に泣き、その頭をおおい、はだしで行った。彼と共にいる民もみな頭をおおって登り、泣きながら登った。
15 31 Then someone told David, saying, "Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom." And David said, "O Lord, I pray, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness!" 時に、「アヒトペルがアブサロムと共謀した者のうちにいる」とダビデに告げる人があったのでダビデは言った、「主よ、どうぞアヒトペルの計略を愚かなものにしてください」。
15 32 Now it happened when David had come to the top of the mountain, where he worshiped God--there was Hushai the Archite coming to meet him with his robe torn and dust on his head. ダビデが山の頂にある神を礼拝する場所にきた時、見よ、アルキびとホシャイはその上着を裂き、頭に土をかぶり、来てダビデを迎えた。
15 33 David said to him, "If you go on with me, then you will become a burden to me. ダビデは彼に言った、「もしあなたがわたしと共に進むならば、わたしの重荷となるであろう。
15 34 But if you return to the city, and say to Absalom, 'I will be your servant, O king; as I was your father's servant previously, so I will now also be your servant,' then you may defeat the counsel of Ahithophel for me. しかしもしあなたが町に帰ってアブサロムに向かい、『王よ、わたしはあなたのしもべとなります。わたしがこれまで、あなたの父のしもべであったように、わたしは今あなたのしもべとなります』と言うならば、あなたはわたしのためにアヒトペルの計略を破ることができるであろう。
15 35 And do you not have Zadok and Abiathar the priests with you there? Therefore it will be that whatever you hear from the king's house, you shall tell to Zadok and Abiathar the priests. 祭司たち、ザドクとアビヤタルとは、あなたと共にあそこにいるではないか。それゆえ、あなたは王の家から聞くことをことごとく祭司たち、ザドクとアビヤタルとに告げなさい。

15 37 So Hushai, David's friend, went into the city. And Absalom came into Jerusalem. そこでダビデの友ホシャイは町にはいった。その時アブサロムはすでにエルサレムにはいっていた。

16 1 When David was a little past the top of the mountain, there was Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth, who met him with a couple of saddled donkeys, and on them two hundred loaves of bread, one hundred clusters of raisins, one hundred summer fruits, and a skin of wine. ダビデが山の頂を過ぎて、すこし行った時、メピボセテのしもべヂバは、くらを置いた二頭のろばを引き、その上にパン二百個、干ぶどう百ふさ、夏のくだもの一百、ぶどう酒一袋を載せてきてダビデを迎えた。
16 2 And the king said to Ziba, "What do you mean to do with these?" So Ziba said, "The donkeys are for the king's household to ride on, the bread and summer fruit for the young men to eat, and the wine for those who are faint in the wilderness to drink." 王はヂバに言った、「あなたはどうしてこれらのものを持ってきたのですか」。ヂバは答えた、「ろばは王の家族が乗るため、パンと夏のくだものは若者たちが食べるため、ぶどう酒は荒野で弱った者が飲むためです」。
16 3 Then the king said, "And where is your master's son?" And Ziba said to the king, "Indeed he is staying in Jerusalem, for he said, 'Today the house of Israel will restore the kingdom of my father to me.' " 王は言った、「あなたの主人の子はどこにおるのですか」。ヂバは王に言った、「エルサレムにとどまっています。彼は、『イスラエルの家はきょう、わたしの父の国をわたしに返すであろう』と思ったのです」。
16 4 So the king said to Ziba, "Here, all that belongs to Mephibosheth is yours." And Ziba said, "I humbly bow before you, that I may find favor in your sight, my lord, O king!" 王はヂバに言った、「見よ、メピボセテのものはことごとくあなたのものです」。ヂバは言った、「わたしは敬意を表します。わが主、王よ、あなたの前にいつまでも恵みを得させてください」。
16 5 Now when King David came to Bahurim, there was a man from the family of the house of Saul, whose name was Shimei the son of Gera, coming from there. He came out, cursing continuously as he came. ダビデ王がバホリムにきた時、サウルの家の一族の者がひとりそこから出てきた。その名をシメイといい、ゲラの子である。彼は出てきながら絶えずのろった。
16 6 And he threw stones at David and at all the servants of King David. And all the people and all the mighty men were on his right hand and on his left. そして彼はダビデとダビデ王のもろもろの家来に向かって石を投げた。その時、民と勇士たちはみな王の左右にいた。

16 8 The Lord has brought upon you all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose place you have reigned; and the Lord has delivered the kingdom into the hand of Absalom your son. 16 10 But the king said, "What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah? So let him curse, because the Lord has said to him, 'Curse David.' Who then shall say, 'Why have you done so?' 16 11 And David said to Abishai and all his servants, "See how my son who came from my own body seeks my life. How much more now may this Benjamite? Let him alone, and let him curse; for so the Lord has ordered him. ダビデはまたアビシャイと自分のすべての家来とに言った、「わたしの身から出たわが子がわたしの命を求めている。今、このベニヤミンびととしてはなおさらだ。彼を許してのろわせておきなさい。主が彼に命じられたのだ。
16 12 It may be that the Lord will look on my affliction, and that the Lord will repay me with good for his cursing this day." 主はわたしの悩みを顧みてくださるかもしれない。また主はきょう彼ののろいにかえて、わたしに善を報いてくださるかも知れない」。
16 13 And as David and his men went along the road, Shimei went along the hillside opposite him and cursed as he went, threw stones at him and kicked up dust. こうしてダビデとその従者たちとは道を行ったが、シメイはダビデに並んで向かいの山の中腹を行き、行きながらのろい、また彼に向かって石や、ちりを投げつけた。
16 14 Now the king and all the people who were with him became weary; so they refreshed themselves there. 王および共にいる民はみな疲れてヨルダンに着き、彼はその所で息をついだ。
16 15Meanwhile Absalom and all the people, the men of Israel, came to Jerusalem; and Ahithophel was with him. さてアブサロムとすべての民、イスラエルの人々はエルサレムにきた。アヒトペルもアブサロムと共にいた。
16 16 And so it was, when Hushai the Archite, David's friend, came to Absalom, that Hushai said to Absalom, "Long live the king! Long live the king!" ダビデの友であるアルキびとホシャイがアブサロムのもとにきた時、ホシャイはアブサロムに「王万歳、王万歳」と言った。
16 17 So Absalom said to Hushai, "Is this your loyalty to your friend? Why did you not go with your friend?" アブサロムはホシャイに言った、「これはあなたがその友に示す真実なのか。あなたはどうしてあなたの友と一緒に行かなかったのか」。
16 18 And Hushai said to Absalom, "No, but whom the Lord and this people and all the men of Israel choose, his I will be, and with him I will remain. ホシャイはアブサロムに言った、「いいえ、主とこの民とイスラエルのすべての人々が選んだ者にわたしは属し、かつその人と一緒におります。
16 19 Furthermore, whom should I serve? Should I not serve in the presence of his son? As I have served in your father's presence, so will I be in your presence." かつまたわたしはだれに仕えるべきですか。その子の前に仕えるべきではありませんか。あなたの父の前に仕えたように、わたしはあなたの前に仕えます」。
16 20 Then Absalom said to Ahithophel, "Give counsel as to what we should do." そこでアブサロムはアヒトペルに言った、「あなたがたは、われわれがどうしたらよいのか、計りごとを述べなさい」。
16 21 And Ahithophel said to Absalom, "Go in to your father's concubines, whom he has left to keep the house; and all Israel will hear that you are abhorred by your father. Then the hands of all who are with you will be strong." アヒトペルはアブサロムに言った、「あなたの父が家を守るために残された、めかけたちの所にはいりなさい。そうすればイスラエルは皆あなたが父上に憎まれることを聞くでしょう。そしてあなたと一緒にいる者の手は強くなるでしょう」。
16 22 So they pitched a tent for Absalom on the top of the house, and Absalom went in to his father's concubines in the sight of all Israel. こうして彼らがアブサロムのために屋上に天幕を張ったので、アブサロムは全イスラエルの目の前で父のめかけたちの所にはいった。
16 23 Now the advice of Ahithophel, which he gave in those days, was as if one had inquired at the oracle of God. So was all the advice of Ahithophel both with David and with Absalom. そのころアヒトペルが授ける計りごとは人が神のみ告げを伺うようであった。アヒトペルの計りごとは皆ダビデにもアブサロムにも共にそのように思われた。

17 1 Moreover Ahithophel said to Absalom, "Now let me choose twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue David tonight. 時にアヒトペルはアブサロムに言った、「わたしに一万二千の人を選び出させてください。わたしは立って、今夜ダビデのあとを追い、
17 2 I will come upon him while he is weary and weak, and make him afraid. And all the people who are with him will flee, and I will strike only the king. 彼が疲れて手が弱くなっているところを襲って、彼をあわてさせましょう。そして彼と共にいる民がみな逃げるとき、わたしは王ひとりを撃ち取り、
17 3 Then I will bring back all the people to you. When all return except the man whom you seek, all the people will be at peace." すべての民を花嫁がその夫のもとに帰るようにあなたに帰らせましょう。あなたが求めておられるのはただひとりの命だけですから、民はみな穏やかになるでしょう」。
17 4 And the saying pleased Absalom and all the elders of Israel. この言葉はアブサロムとイスラエルのすべての長老の心にかなった。
17 5 Then Absalom said, "Now call Hushai the Archite also, and let us hear what he says too." そこでアブサロムは言った、「アルキびとホシャイをも呼びよせなさい。われわれは彼の言うことを聞きましょう」。
17 6 And when Hushai came to Absalom, Absalom spoke to him, saying, "Ahithophel has spoken in this manner. Shall we do as he says? If not, speak up." ホシャイがアブサロムのもとにきた時、アブサロムは彼に言った、「アヒトペルはこのように言った。われわれは彼の言葉のように行うべきか。いけないのであれば、言いなさい」。
17 7 So Hushai said to Absalom: "The advice that Ahithophel has given is not good at this time. ホシャイはアブサロムに言った、「このたびアヒトペルが授けた計りごとは良くありません」。
17 8For," said Hushai, "you know your father and his men, that they are mighty men, and they are enraged in their minds, like a bear robbed of her cubs in the field; and your father is a man of war, and will not camp with the people. ホシャイはまた言った、「ごぞんじのように、あなたの父とその従者たちとは勇士です。その上彼らは、野で子を奪われた熊のように、ひどく怒っています。また、あなたの父はいくさびとですから、民と共に宿らないでしょう。
17 9 Surely by now he is hidden in some pit, or in some other place. And it will be, when some of them are overthrown at the first, that whoever hears it will say, 'There is a slaughter among the people who follow Absalom.' 彼は今でも穴の中か、どこかほかの所にかくれています。もし民のうちの幾人かが手始めに倒れるならば、それを聞く者はだれでも、『アブサロムに従う民のうちに戦死者があった』と言うでしょう。
17 10And even he who is valiant, whose heart is like the heart of a lion, will melt completely. For all Israel knows that your father is a mighty man, and those who are with him are valiant men. そうすれば、ししの心のような心のある勇ましい人であっても、恐れて消え去ってしまうでしょう。それはイスラエルのすべての人が、あなたの父の勇士であること、また彼と共にいる者が、勇ましい人々であることを知っているからです。
17 11 Therefore I advise that all Israel be fully gathered to you, from Dan to Beersheba, like the sand that is by the sea for multitude, and that you go to battle in person. ところでわたしの計りごとは、イスラエルをダンからベエルシバまで、海べの砂のように多くあなたのもとに集めて、あなたみずから戦いに臨むことです。
17 12 So we will come upon him in some place where he may be found, and we will fall on him as the dew falls on the ground. And of him and all the men who are with him there shall not be left so much as one. こうしてわれわれは彼の見つかる場所で彼を襲い、つゆが地におりるように彼の上に下る。そして彼および彼と共にいるすべての人をひとりも残さないでしょう。
17 13 Moreover, if he has withdrawn into a city, then all Israel shall bring ropes to that city; and we will pull it into the river, until there is not one small stone found there." もし彼がいずれかの町に退くならば、全イスラエルはその町になわをかけ、われわれはそれを谷に引き倒して、そこに一つの小石も見られないようにするでしょう」。
17 14 So Absalom and all the men of Israel said, "The advice of Hushai the Archite is better than the advice of Ahithophel." For the Lord had purposed to defeat the good advice of Ahithophel, to the intent that the Lord might bring disaster on Absalom. アブサロムとイスラエルの人々はみな、「アルキびとホシャイの計りごとは、アヒトペルの計りごとよりもよい」と言った。それは主がアブサロムに災を下そうとして、アヒトペルの良い計りごとを破ることを定められたからである。
17 15Then Hushai said to Zadok and Abiathar the priests, "Thus and so Ahithophel advised Absalom and the elders of Israel, and thus and so I have advised. そこでホシャイは祭司たち、ザドクとアビヤタルとに言った、「アヒトペルはアブサロムとイスラエルの長老たちのためにこういう計りごとをした。またわたしはこういう計りごとをした。
17 16 Now therefore, send quickly and tell David, saying, 'Do not spend this night in the plains of the wilderness, but speedily cross over, lest the king and all the people who are with him be swallowed up.' " それゆえ、あなたがたはすみやかに人をつかわしてダビデに告げ、『今夜、荒野の渡し場に宿らないで、必ず渡って行きなさい。さもないと王および共にいる民はみな、滅ぼされるでしょう』と言いなさい」。
17 17 Now Jonathan and Ahimaaz stayed at En Rogel, for they dared not be seen coming into the city; so a female servant would come and tell them, and they would go and tell King David. 時に、ヨナタンとアヒマアズはエンロゲルで待っていた。ひとりのつかえめが行って彼らに告げ、彼らは行ってダビデ王に告げるのが常であった。それは彼らが町にはいるのを見られないようにするためである。
17 18 Nevertheless a lad saw them, and told Absalom. But both of them went away quickly and came to a man's house in Bahurim, who had a well in his court; and they went down into it. ところがひとりの若者が彼らを見てアブサロムに告げたので、彼らふたりは急いで去り、バホリムの、あるひとりの人の家にきた。その人の庭に井戸があって、彼らはその中に下ったので、
17 19 Then the woman took and spread a covering over the well's mouth, and spread ground grain on it; and the thing was not known. 女はおおいを取ってきて井戸の口の上にひろげ、麦をその上にまき散らした。それゆえその事は何も知れなかった。
17 20 And when Absalom's servants came to the woman at the house, they said, "Where are Ahimaaz and Jonathan?" So the woman said to them, "They have gone over the water brook." And when they had searched and could not find them, they returned to Jerusalem. アブサロムのしもべたちはその女の家にきて言った、「アヒマアズとヨナタンはどこにいますか」。女は彼らに言った、「あの人々は小川を渡って行きました」。彼らは尋ねたが見当らなかったのでエルサレムに帰った。
17 21 Now it came to pass, after they had departed, that they came up out of the well and went and told King David, and said to David, "Arise and cross over the water quickly. For thus has Ahithophel advised against you." 彼らが去った後、人々は井戸から上り、行ってダビデ王に告げた。すなわち彼らはダビデに言った、「立って、すみやかに川を渡りなさい。アヒトペルがあなたがたに対してこういう計りごとをしたからです」。
17 22 So David and all the people who were with him arose and crossed over the Jordan. By morning light not one of them was left who had not gone over the Jordan. そこでダビデは立って、共にいるすべての民と一緒にヨルダンを渡った。夜明けには、ヨルダンを渡らない者はひとりもなかった。
17 23 Now when Ahithophel saw that his advice was not followed, he saddled a donkey, and arose and went home to his house, to his city. Then he put his household in order, and hanged himself, and died; and he was buried in his father's tomb. アヒトペルは、自分の計りごとが行われないのを見て、ろばにくらを置き、立って自分の町に行き、その家に帰った。そして家の人に遺言してみずからくびれて死に、その父の墓に葬られた。
17 24 Then David went to Mahanaim. And Absalom crossed over the Jordan, he and all the men of Israel with him. ダビデはマハナイムにきた。またアブサロムは自分と共にいるイスラエルのすべての人々と一緒にヨルダンを渡った。
17 25 And Absalom made Amasa captain of the army instead of Joab. This Amasa was the son of a man whose name was Jithra, an Israelite, who had gone in to Abigail the daughter of Nahash, sister of Zeruiah, Joab's mother. アブサロムはアマサをヨアブの代りに軍の長とした。アマサはかのナハシの娘でヨアブの母ゼルヤの妹であるアビガルをめとったイシマエルびと、名はイトラという人の子である。
17 26 So Israel and Absalom encamped in the land of Gilead. そしてイスラエルとアブサロムはギレアデの地に陣取った。
17 27 Now it happened, when David had come to Mahanaim, that Shobi the son of Nahash from Rabbah of the people of Ammon, Machir the son of Ammiel from Lo Debar, and Barzillai the Gileadite from Rogelim, ダビデがマハナイムにきた時、アンモンの人々のうちのラバのナハシの子ショビと、ロ・デバルのアンミエルの子マキル、およびロゲリムのギレアデびとバルジライは、
17 28 brought beds and basins, earthen vessels and wheat, barley and flour, parched grain and beans, lentils and parched seeds, 寝床と鉢、土器、小麦、大麦、粉、いり麦、豆、レンズ豆、

18 3 But the people answered, "You shall not go out! For if we flee away, they will not care about us; nor if half of us die, will they care about us. But you are worth ten thousand of us now. For you are now more help to us in the city." しかし民は言った、「あなたは出てはなりません。それはわれわれがどんなに逃げても、彼らはわれわれに心をとめず、われわれの半ばが死んでも、われわれに心をとめないからです。しかしあなたはわれわれの一万に等しいのです。それゆえあなたは町の中からわれわれを助けてくださる方がよろしい」。
18 4 Then the king said to them, "Whatever seems best to you I will do." So the king stood beside the gate, and all the people went out by hundreds and by thousands. 王は彼らに言った、「あなたがたの最も良いと思うことをわたしはしましょう」。こうして王は門のかたわらに立ち、民は皆あるいは百人、あるいは千人となって出て行った。
18 5 Now the king had commanded Joab, Abishai, and Ittai, saying, "Deal gently for my sake with the young man Absalom." And all the people heard when the king gave all the captains orders concerning Absalom. 王はヨアブ、アビシャイおよびイッタイに命じて、「わたしのため、若者アブサロムをおだやかに扱うように」と言った。王がアブサロムの事についてすべての長たちに命じている時、民は皆聞いていた。
18 6 So the people went out into the field of battle against Israel. And the battle was in the woods of Ephraim. こうして民はイスラエルに向かって野に出て行き、エフライムの森で戦ったが、
18 7 The people of Israel were overthrown there before the servants of David, and a great slaughter of twenty thousand took place there that day. イスラエルの民はその所でダビデの家来たちの前に敗れた。その日その所に戦死者が多く、二万に及んだ。
18 8For the battle there was scattered over the face of the whole countryside, and the woods devoured more people that day than the sword devoured. そして戦いはあまねくその地のおもてに広がった。この日、森の滅ぼした者は、つるぎの滅ぼした者よりも多かった。
18 9 Then Absalom met the servants of David. Absalom rode on a mule. The mule went under the thick boughs of a great terebinth tree, and his head caught in the terebinth; so he was left hanging between heaven and earth. And the mule which was under him went on. さてアブサロムはダビデの家来たちに行き会った。その時アブサロムは騾馬に乗っていたが、騾馬は大きいかしの木の、茂った枝の下を通ったので、アブサロムの頭がそのかしの木にかかって、彼は天地の間につりさがった。騾馬は彼を捨てて過ぎて行った。
18 10 Now a certain man saw it and told Joab, and said, "I just saw Absalom hanging in a terebinth tree!" ひとりの人がそれを見てヨアブに告げて言った、「わたしはアブサロムが、かしの木にかかっているのを見ました」。
18 11 So Joab said to the man who told him, "You just saw him! And why did you not strike him there to the ground? I would have given you ten shekels of silver and a belt." ヨアブはそれを告げた人に言った、「あなたはそれを見たというのか。それなら、どうしてあなたは彼をその所で、地に撃ち落さなかったのか。わたしはあなたに銀十シケルと帯一筋を与えたであろうに」。
18 12 But the man said to Joab, "Though I were to receive a thousand shekels of silver in my hand, I would not raise my hand against the king's son. For in our hearing the king commanded you and Abishai and Ittai, saying, 'Beware lest anyone touch the young man Absalom!' その人はヨアブに言った、「たといわたしの手に銀千シケルを受けても、手を出して王の子に敵することはしません。王はわれわれが聞いているところで、あなたとアビシャイとイッタイに、『わたしのため若者アブサロムを保護せよ』と命じられたからです。
18 13Otherwise I would have dealt falsely against my own life. For there is nothing hidden from the king, and you yourself would have set yourself against me." もしわたしがそむいて彼の命をそこなったのであれば、何事も王に隠れることはありませんから、あなたはみずから立ってわたしを責められたでしょう」。
18 14 Then Joab said, "I cannot linger with you." And he took three spears in his hand and thrust them through Absalom's heart, while he was still alive in the midst of the terebinth tree. そこで、ヨアブは「こうしてあなたと共にとどまってはおられない」と言って、手に三筋の投げやりを取り、あのかしの木にかかって、なお生きているアブサロムの心臓にこれを突き通した。
18 15 And ten young men who bore Joab's armor surrounded Absalom, and struck and killed him. ヨアブの武器を執る十人の若者たちは取り巻いて、アブサロムを撃ち殺した。
18 16 So Joab blew the trumpet, and the people returned from pursuing Israel. For Joab held back the people. こうしてヨアブがラッパを吹いたので、民はイスラエルのあとを追うことをやめて帰った。ヨアブが民を引きとめたからである。
18 17 And they took Absalom and cast him into a large pit in the woods, and laid a very large heap of stones over him. Then all Israel fled, everyone to his tent. 人々はアブサロムを取って、森の中の大きな穴に投げいれ、その上にひじょうに大きい石塚を積み上げた。そしてイスラエルはみなおのおのその天幕に逃げ帰った。
18 18 Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and set up a pillar for himself, which is in the King's Valley. For he said, "I have no son to keep my name in remembrance." He called the pillar after his own name. And to this day it is called Absalom's Monument. さてアブサロムは生きている間に、王の谷に自分のために一つの柱を建てた。それは彼が、「わたしは自分の名を伝える子がない」と思ったからである。彼はその柱に自分の名をつけた。その柱は今日までアブサロムの碑ととなえられている。
18 19 Then Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said, "Let me run now and take the news to the king, how the Lord has avenged him of his enemies." さてザドクの子アヒマアズは言った、「わたしは走って行って、主が王を敵の手から救い出されたおとずれを王に伝えましょう」。
18 20 And Joab said to him, "You shall not take the news this day, for you shall take the news another day. But today you shall take no news, because the king's son is dead." ヨアブは彼に言った、「きょうは、おとずれを伝えてはならない。おとずれを伝えるのは、ほかの日にしなさい。きょうは王の子が死んだので、おとずれを伝えてはならない」。
18 21 Then Joab said to the Cushite, "Go, tell the king what you have seen." So the Cushite bowed himself to Joab and ran. ヨアブはクシびとに言った、「行って、あなたの見た事を王に告げなさい」。クシびとはヨアブに礼をして走って行った。
18 22 And Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said again to Joab, "But whatever happens, please let me also run after the Cushite." So Joab said, "Why will you run, my son, since you have no news ready?" ザドクの子アヒマアズは重ねてヨアブに言った、「何事があろうとも、わたしにもクシびとのあとから走って行かせてください」。ヨアブは言った、「子よ、おとずれの報いを得られないのに、どうしてあなたは走って行こうとするのか」。
18 23 "But whatever happens," he said, "let me run." So he said to him, "Run." Then Ahimaaz ran by way of the plain, and outran the Cushite. 彼は言った、「何事があろうとも、わたしは走って行きます」。ヨアブは彼に言った、「走って行きなさい」。そこでアヒマアズは低地の道を走って行き、クシびとを追い越した。
18 24 Now David was sitting between the two gates. And the watchman went up to the roof over the gate, to the wall, lifted his eyes and looked, and there was a man, running alone. 時にダビデは二つの門の間にすわっていた。そして見張りの者が城壁の門の屋根にのぼり、目をあげて見ていると、ただひとりで走ってくる者があった。
18 25 Then the watchman cried out and told the king. And the king said, "If he is alone, there is news in his mouth." And he came rapidly and drew near. 見張りの者が呼ばわって王に告げたので、王は言った、「もしひとりならば、その口におとずれがあるであろう」。その人は急いできて近づいた。
18 26 Then the watchman saw another man running, and the watchman called to the gatekeeper and said, "There is another man, running alone!" And the king said, "He also brings news." 見張りの者は、ほかにまたひとり走ってくるのを見たので、門の方に呼ばわって言った、「見よ、ほかにただひとりで走って来る者があります」。王は言った、「彼もまたおとずれを持ってくるのだ」。
18 27So the watchman said, "I think the running of the first is like the running of Ahimaaz the son of Zadok." And the king said, "He is a good man, and comes with good news." 見張りの者は言った、「まっ先に走って来る人はザドクの子アヒマアズのようです」。王は言った、「彼は良い人だ。良いおとずれを持ってくるであろう」。
18 28 And Ahimaaz called out and said to the king, "All is well!" Then he bowed down with his face to the earth before the king, and said, "Blessed be the Lord your God, who has delivered up the men who raised their hand against my lord the king!" 時にアヒマアズは呼ばわって王に言った、「平安でいらせられますように」。そして王の前に地にひれ伏して言った、「あなたの神、主はほむべきかな。主は王、わが君に敵して手をあげた人々を引き渡されました」。
18 29 The king said, "Is the young man Absalom safe?" Ahimaaz answered, "When Joab sent the king's servant and me your servant, I saw a great tumult, but I did not know what it was about." 王は言った、「若者アブサロムは平安ですか」。アヒマアズは答えた、「ヨアブがしもべをつかわす時、わたしは大きな騒ぎを見ましたが、何事であったか知りません」。
18 30 And the king said, "Turn aside and stand here." So he turned aside and stood still. 王は言った、「わきへ行って、そこに立っていなさい」。彼はわきへ行って立った。
18 31 Just then the Cushite came, and the Cushite said, "There is good news, my lord the king! For the Lord has avenged you this day of all those who rose against you." その時クシびとがきた。そしてそのクシびとは言った、「わが君、王が良いおとずれをお受けくださるよう。主はきょう、すべてあなたに敵して立った者どもの手から、あなたを救い出されたのです」。
18 32 And the king said to the Cushite, "Is the young man Absalom safe?" So the Cushite answered, "May the enemies of my lord the king, and all who rise against you to do harm, be like that young man!" 王はクシびとに言った、「若者アブサロムは平安ですか」。クシびとは答えた、「王、わが君の敵、およびすべてあなたに敵して立ち、害をしようとする者は、あの若者のようになりますように」。
18 33Then the king was deeply moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept. And as he went, he said thus: "O my son Absalom--my son, my son Absalom--if only I had died in your place! O Absalom my son, my son!" 王はひじょうに悲しみ、門の上のへやに上って泣いた。彼は行きながらこのように言った、「わが子アブサロムよ。わが子、わが子アブサロムよ。ああ、わたしが代って死ねばよかったのに。アブサロム、わが子よ、わが子よ」。

19 1 And Joab was told, "Behold, the king is weeping and mourning for Absalom." 時にヨアブに告げる者があって、「見よ、王はアブサロムのために泣き悲しんでいる」と言った。
19 2 So the victory that day was turned into mourning for all the people. For the people heard it said that day, "The king is grieved for his son." こうしてその日の勝利はすべての民の悲しみとなった。それはその日、民が、「王はその子のために悲しんでいる」と人の言うのを聞いたからである。
19 3 And the people stole back into the city that day, as people who are ashamed steal away when they flee in battle. そして民はその日、戦いに逃げて恥じている民がひそかに、はいるように、ひそかに町にはいった。
19 4 But the king covered his face, and the king cried out with a loud voice, "O my son Absalom! O Absalom, my son, my son!" 王は顔をおおった。そして王は大声に叫んで、「わが子アブサロムよ。アブサロム、わが子よ、わが子よ」と言った。
19 5 Then Joab came into the house to the king, and said, "Today you have disgraced all your servants who today have saved your life, the lives of your sons and daughters, the lives of your wives and the lives of your concubines, 時にヨアブは家にはいり、王のもとにきて言った、「あなたは、きょう、あなたの命と、あなたのむすこ娘たちの命、およびあなたの妻たちの命と、めかけたちの命を救ったすべての家来の顔をはずかしめられました。
19 6 in that you love your enemies and hate your friends. 19 7 Now therefore, arise, go out and speak comfort to your servants. For I swear by the Lord, if you do not go out, not one will stay with you this night. And that will be worse for you than all the evil that has befallen you from your youth until now." 今立って出て行って、しもべたちにねんごろに語ってください。わたしは主をさして誓います。もしあなたが出られないならば、今夜あなたと共にとどまる者はひとりもないでしょう。これはあなたが若い時から今までにこうむられたすべての災よりも、あなたにとって悪いでしょう」。
19 8 Then the king arose and sat in the gate. And they told all the people, saying, "There is the king, sitting in the gate." So all the people came before the king. For everyone of Israel had fled to his tent. そこで王は立って門のうちの座についた。人々はすべての民に、「見よ、王は門に座している」と告げたので、民はみな王の前にきた。さてイスラエルはおのおのその天幕に逃げ帰った。
19 9 Now all the people were in a dispute throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, "The king saved us from the hand of our enemies, he delivered us from the hand of the Philistines, and now he has fled from the land because of Absalom. そしてイスラエルのもろもろの部族の中で民はみな争って言った、「王はわれわれを敵の手から救い出し、またわれわれをペリシテびとの手から助け出された。しかし今はアブサロムのために国のそとに逃げておられる。
19 10 But Absalom, whom we anointed over us, has died in battle. Now therefore, why do you say nothing about bringing back the king?" またわれわれが油を注いで、われわれの上に立てたアブサロムは戦いで死んだ。それであるのに、どうしてあなたがたは王を導きかえることについて、何をも言わないのか」。
19 11 So King David sent to Zadok and Abiathar the priests, saying, "Speak to the elders of Judah, saying, 'Why are you the last to bring the king back to his house, since the words of all Israel have come to the king, to his very house? ダビデ王は祭司たちザドクとアビヤタルとに人をつかわして言った、「ユダの長老たちに言いなさい、『全イスラエルの言葉が王に達したのに、どうしてあなたがたは王をその家に導きかえる最後の者となるのですか。
19 12 You are my brethren, you are my bone and my flesh. Why then are you the last to bring back the king?' あなたがたはわたしの兄弟、わたしの骨肉です。それにどうして王を導きかえる最後の者となるのですか』。
19 13 And say to Amasa, 'Are you not my bone and my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if you are not commander of the army before me continually in place of Joab.' " またアマサに言いなさい、『あなたはわたしの骨肉ではありませんか。これから後あなたをヨアブに代えて、わたしの軍の長とします。もしそうしないときは、神が幾重にもわたしを罰してくださるように』」。
19 14 So he swayed the hearts of all the men of Judah, just as the heart of one man, so that they sent this word to the king: "Return, you and all your servants!" こうしてダビデはユダのすべての人の心を、ひとりのように自分に傾けさせたので、彼らは王に、「どうぞあなたも、すべての家来たちも帰ってきてください」と言いおくった。
19 15 Then the king returned and came to the Jordan. And Judah came to Gilgal, to go to meet the king, to escort the king across the Jordan. そこで王は帰ってきてヨルダンまで来ると、ユダの人人は王を迎えるためギルガルにきて、王にヨルダンを渡らせた。
19 16 And Shimei the son of Gera, a Benjamite, who was from Bahurim, hastened and came down with the men of Judah to meet King David. バホリムのベニヤミンびと、ゲラの子シメイは、急いでユダの人々と共に下ってきて、ダビデ王を迎えた。

19 21 But Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered and said, "Shall not Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed the Lord's anointed?" ゼルヤの子アビシャイは答えて言った、「シメイは主が油を注がれた者をのろったので、そのために殺されるべきではありませんか」。
19 22 And David said, "What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah, that you should be adversaries to me today? Shall any man be put to death today in Israel? For do I not know that today I am king over Israel?" ダビデは言った、「あなたがたゼルヤの子たちよ、あなたがたとなにのかかわりがあって、あなたがたはきょうわたしに敵対するのか。きょう、イスラエルのうちで人を殺して良かろうか。わたしが、きょうイスラエルの王となったことを、どうして自分で知らないことがあろうか」。
19 23 Therefore the king said to Shimei, "You shall not die." And the king swore to him. こうして王はシメイに、「あなたを殺さない」と言って、王は彼に誓った。
19 24 Now Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king. And he had not cared for his feet, nor trimmed his mustache, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he returned in peace. サウルの子メピボセテは下ってきて王を迎えた。彼は王が去った日から安らかに帰る日まで、その足を飾らず、そのひげを整えず、またその着物を洗わなかった。

19 27 And he has slandered your servant to my lord the king, but my lord the king is like the angel of God. Therefore do what is good in your eyes. ところが彼はしもべのことをわが主、王の前に、あしざまに言ったのです。しかし、わが主、王は神の使のようでいらせられます。それで、あなたの良いと思われることをしてください。
19 28 For all my father's house were but dead men before my lord the king. Yet you set your servant among those who eat at your own table. Therefore what right have I still to cry out anymore to the king?" わたしの父の全家はわが主、王の前にはみな死んだ人にすぎないのに、あなたはしもべを、あなたの食卓で食事をする人々のうちに置かれました。わたしになんの権利があって、重ねて王に訴えることができましょう」。
19 29 So the king said to him, "Why do you speak anymore of your matters? I have said, 'You and Ziba divide the land.' " 王は彼に言った、「あなたはどうしてなおも自分のことを言うのですか。わたしは決めました。あなたとヂバとはその土地を分けなさい」。
19 30Then Mephibosheth said to the king, "Rather, let him take it all, inasmuch as my lord the king has come back in peace to his own house." メピボセテは王に言った、「わが主、王が安らかに家に帰られたのですから、彼にそれをみな取らせてください」。
19 31 And Barzillai the Gileadite came down from Rogelim and went across the Jordan with the king, to escort him across the Jordan. さてギレアデびとバルジライはロゲリムから下ってきて、ヨルダンで王を見送るため、王と共にヨルダンに進んだ。
19 32 Now Barzillai was a very aged man, eighty years old. And he had provided the king with supplies while he stayed at Mahanaim, for he was a very rich man. バルジライは、ひじょうに年老いた人で八十歳であった。彼はまた、ひじょうに裕福な人であったので、王がマハナイムにとどまっている間、王を養った。

19 34 But Barzillai said to the king, "How long have I to live, that I should go up with the king to Jerusalem? バルジライは王に言った、「わたしは、なお何年いきながらえるので、王と共にエルサレムに上るのですか。
19 35 I am today eighty years old. Can I discern between the good and bad? Can your servant taste what I eat or what I drink? Can I hear any longer the voice of singing men and singing women? Why then should your servant be a further burden to my lord the king? わたしは今日八十歳です。わたしに、良いこと悪いことがわきまえられるでしょうか。しもべは食べるもの、飲むものを味わうことができましょうか。わたしは歌う男や歌う女の声をまだ聞くことができましょうか。それであるのに、しもべはどうしてなおわが主、王の重荷となってよろしいでしょうか。
19 36 Your servant will go a little way across the Jordan with the king. And why should the king repay me with such a reward? しもべは王と共にヨルダンを渡って、ただ少し行きましょう。どうして王はこのような報いをわたしに報いられなければならないのでしょうか。
19 37 Please let your servant turn back again, that I may die in my own city, near the grave of my father and mother. But here is your servant Chimham; let him cross over with my lord the king, and do for him what seems good to you." どうぞしもべを帰らせてください。わたしは自分の町で、父母の墓の近くで死にます。ただし、あなたのしもべキムハムがここにおります。わが主、王と共に彼を渡って行かせてください。またあなたが良いと思われる事を彼にしてください」。
19 38 And the king answered, "Chimham shall cross over with me, and I will do for him what seems good to you. Now whatever you request of me, I will do for you." 王は答えた、「キムハムはわたしと共に渡って行かせます。わたしは、あなたが良いと思われる事を彼にしましょう。またあなたが望まれることはみな、あなたのためにいたします」。
19 39 Then all the people went over the Jordan. And when the king had crossed over, the king kissed Barzillai and blessed him, and he returned to his own place. こうして民はみなヨルダンを渡った。王は渡った時、バルジライに口づけして、祝福したので、彼は自分の家に帰っていった。
19 40 Now the king went on to Gilgal, and Chimham went on with him. And all the people of Judah escorted the king, and also half the people of Israel. 王はギルガルに進んだ。キムハムも彼と共に進んだ。ユダの民はみな王を送り、イスラエルの民の半ばもまたそうした。
19 41 Just then all the men of Israel came to the king, and said to the king, "Why have our brethren, the men of Judah, stolen you away and brought the king, his household, and all David's men with him across the Jordan?" さてイスラエルの人々はみな王の所にきて、王に言った、「われわれの兄弟であるユダの人々は、何ゆえにあなたを盗み去って、王とその家族、およびダビデに伴っているすべての従者にヨルダンを渡らせたのですか」。
19 42 So all the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, "Because the king is a close relative of ours. Why then are you angry over this matter? Have we ever eaten at the king's expense? Or has he given us any gift?" ユダの人々はみなイスラエルの人々に答えた、「王はわれわれの近親だからです。あなたがたはどうしてこの事で怒られるのですか。われわれが少しでも王の物を食べたことがありますか。王が何か賜物をわれわれに与えたことがありますか」。
19 43 And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, "We have ten shares in the king; therefore we also have more right to David than you. Why then do you despise us--were we not the first to advise bringing back our king?" Yet the words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel. イスラエルの人々はユダの人々に答えた、「われわれは王のうちに十の分を持っています。またダビデのうちにもわれわれはあなたがたよりも多くを持っています。それであるのに、どうしてあなたがたはわれわれを軽んじたのですか。われらの王を導き帰ろうと最初に言ったのはわれわれではないのですか」。しかしユダの人々の言葉はイスラエルの人々の言葉よりも激しかった。

20 1 And there happened to be there a rebel, whose name was Sheba the son of Bichri, a Benjamite. And he blew a trumpet, and said: "We have no share in David, Nor do we have inheritance in the son of Jesse; Every man to his tents, O Israel!" さて、その所にひとりのよこしまな人があって、名をシバといった。ビクリの子で、ベニヤミンびとであった。彼はラッパを吹いて言った、「われわれはダビデのうちに分がない。またエッサイの子のうちに嗣業を持たない。イスラエルよ、おのおのその天幕に帰りなさい」。
20 2 So every man of Israel deserted David, and followed Sheba the son of Bichri. But the men of Judah, from the Jordan as far as Jerusalem, remained loyal to their king. そこでイスラエルの人々は皆ダビデに従う事をやめて、ビクリの子シバに従った。しかしユダの人々はその王につき従って、ヨルダンからエルサレムへ行った。
20 3 Now David came to his house at Jerusalem. And the king took the ten women, his concubines whom he had left to keep the house, and put them in seclusion and supported them, but did not go in to them. So they were shut up to the day of their death, living in widowhood. ダビデはエルサレムの自分の家にきた。そして王は家を守るために残しておいた十人のめかけたちを取って、一つの家に入れて守り、また養ったが、彼女たちの所には、はいらなかった。彼女たちは死ぬ日まで閉じこめられ一生、寡婦としてすごした。
20 4 And the king said to Amasa, "Assemble the men of Judah for me within three days, and be present here yourself." 王はアマサに言った、「わたしのため三日のうちにユダの人々を呼び集めて、ここにきなさい」。
20 5So Amasa went to assemble the men of Judah. But he delayed longer than the set time which David had appointed him. アマサはユダを呼び集めるために行ったが、彼は定められた時よりもおくれた。
20 6 And David said to Abishai, "Now Sheba the son of Bichri will do us more harm than Absalom. Take your lord's servants and pursue him, lest he find for himself fortified cities, and escape us." ダビデはアビシャイに言った、「ビクリの子シバは今われわれにアブサロムよりも多くの害をするであろう。あなたの主君の家来たちを率いて、彼のあとを追いなさい。さもないと彼は堅固な町々を獲て、われわれを悩ますであろう」。
20 7 So Joab's men, with the Cherethites, the Pelethites, and all the mighty men, went out after him. And they went out of Jerusalem to pursue Sheba the son of Bichri. こうしてヨアブとケレテびととペレテびと、およびすべての勇士はアビシャイに従って出た。すなわち彼らはエルサレムを出て、ビクリの子シバのあとを追った。
20 8 When they were at the large stone which is in Gibeon, Amasa came before them. Now Joab was dressed in battle armor; on it was a belt with a sword fastened in its sheath at his hips; and as he was going forward, it fell out. 彼らがギベオンにある大石のところにいた時、アマサがきて彼らに会った。時にヨアブは軍服を着て、帯をしめ、その上にさやに納めたつるぎを腰に結んで帯びていたが、彼が進み出た時つるぎは抜け落ちた。

20 10 But Amasa did not notice the sword that was in Joab's hand. And he struck him with it in the stomach, and his entrails poured out on the ground; and he did not strike him again. Thus he died. Then Joab and Abishai his brother pursued Sheba the son of Bichri. アマサはヨアブの手につるぎがあることに気づかなかったので、ヨアブはそれをもってアマサの腹部を刺して、そのはらわたを地に流し出し、重ねて撃つこともなく彼を殺した。こうしてヨアブとその兄弟アビシャイはビクリの子シバのあとを追った。
20 11 Meanwhile one of Joab's men stood near Amasa, and said, "Whoever favors Joab and whoever is for David--follow Joab!" 時にヨアブの若者のひとりがアマサのかたわらに立って言った、「ヨアブに味方する者、ダビデにつく者はヨアブのあとに従いなさい」。
20 12 But Amasa wallowed in his blood in the middle of the highway. And when the man saw that all the people stood still, he moved Amasa from the highway to the field and threw a garment over him, when he saw that everyone who came upon him halted. アマサは血に染んで大路の中にころがっていたので、そのそばに来る者はみな彼を見て立ちどまった。この人は民がみな立ちどまるのを見て、アマサを大路から畑に移し、衣服をその上にかけた。
20 13 When he was removed from the highway, all the people went on after Joab to pursue Sheba the son of Bichri. アマサが大路から移されたので、民は皆ヨアブに従って進み、ビクリの子シバのあとを追った。
20 14 And he went through all the tribes of Israel to Abel and Beth Maachah and all the Berites. So they were gathered together and also went after Sheba. シバはイスラエルのすべての部族のうちを通ってベテマアカのアベルにきた。ビクリびとは皆、集まってきて彼に従った。
20 15 Then they came and besieged him in Abel of Beth Maachah; and they cast up a siege mound against the city, and it stood by the rampart. And all the people who were with Joab battered the wall to throw it down. そこでヨアブと共にいたすべての人々がきて、彼をベテマアカのアベルに囲み、町に向かって土塁を築いた。それはとりでに向かって立てられた。こうして彼らは城壁をくずそうとしてこれを撃った。
20 16Then a wise woman cried out from the city, "Hear, Hear! Please say to Joab, 'Come nearby, that I may speak with you.' " その時、ひとりの賢い女が町から呼ばわった、「あなたがたは聞きなさい。あなたがたは聞きなさい。ヨアブに、『ここにきてください。わたしはあなたに言うことがあります』と言ってください」。

20 19 I am among the peaceable and faithful in Israel. You seek to destroy a city and a mother in Israel. Why would you swallow up the inheritance of the Lord?" わたしはイスラエルのうちの平和な、忠誠な者です。そうであるのに、あなたはイスラエルのうちで母ともいうべき町を滅ぼそうとしておられます。どうして主の嗣業を、のみ尽そうとされるのですか」。
20 20And Joab answered and said, "Far be it, far be it from me, that I should swallow up or destroy! ヨアブは答えた、「いいえ、決してそうではなく、わたしが、のみ尽したり、滅ぼしたりすることはありません。
20 21 That is not so. But a man from the mountains of Ephraim, Sheba the son of Bichri by name, has raised his hand against the king, against David. Deliver him only, and I will depart from the city." So the woman said to Joab, "Watch, his head will be thrown to you over the wall." 事実はそうではなく、エフライムの山地の人ビクリの子、名をシバという者が手をあげて王ダビデにそむいたのです。あなたがたが彼ひとりを渡すならば、わたしはこの町を去ります」。女はヨアブに言った、「彼の首は城壁の上からあなたの所へ投げられるでしょう」。
20 22 Then the woman in her wisdom went to all the people. And they cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri, and threw it out to Joab. Then he blew a trumpet, and they withdrew from the city, every man to his tent. So Joab returned to the king at Jerusalem. こうしてこの女が知恵をもって、すべての民の所に行ったので、彼らはビクリの子シバの首をはねてヨアブの所へ投げ出した。そこでヨアブはラッパを吹きならしたので、人々は散って町を去り、おのおの家に帰った。ヨアブはエルサレムにいる王のもとに帰った。
20 23 And Joab was over all the army of Israel; Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; ヨアブはイスラエルの全軍の長であった。エホヤダの子ベナヤはケレテびと、およびペレテびとの長、
20 24 Adoram was in charge of revenue; Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder; アドラムは徴募人の長、アヒルデの子ヨシャパテは史官、
20 25 Sheva was scribe; Zadok and Abiathar were the priests; シワは書記官、ザドクとアビヤタルとは祭司。
20 26 and Ira the Jairite was a chief minister under David. またヤイルびとイラはダビデの祭司であった。

21 1 Now there was a famine in the days of David for three years, year after year; and David inquired of the Lord. And the Lord answered, "It is because of Saul and his bloodthirsty house, because he killed the Gibeonites." ダビデの世に、年また年と三年、ききんがあったので、ダビデが主に尋ねたところ、主は言われた、「サウルとその家とに、血を流した罪がある。それはかつて彼がギベオンびとを殺したためである」。
21 2 So the king called the Gibeonites and spoke to them. Now the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites; the children of Israel had sworn protection to them, but Saul had sought to kill them in his zeal for the children of Israel and Judah. そこで王はギベオンびとを召しよせた。ギベオンびとはイスラエルの子孫ではなく、アモリびとの残りであって、イスラエルの人々は彼らと誓いを立てて、その命を助けた。ところがサウルはイスラエルとユダの人々のために熱心であったので、彼らを殺そうとしたのである。
21 3 Therefore David said to the Gibeonites, "What shall I do for you? And with what shall I make atonement, that you may bless the inheritance of the Lord?" それでダビデはギベオンびとに言った、「わたしはあなたがたのために、何をすればよいのですか。どんな償いをすれば、あなたがたは主の嗣業を祝福するのですか」。
21 4 And the Gibeonites said to him, "We will have no silver or gold from Saul or from his house, nor shall you kill any man in Israel for us." So he said, "Whatever you say, I will do for you." ギベオンびとは彼に言った、「これはわれわれと、サウルまたはその家との間の金銀の問題ではありません。またイスラエルのうちのひとりでも、われわれが殺そうというのでもありません」。ダビデは言った、「わたしがあなたがたのために何をすればよいと言うのですか」。

21 6 let seven men of his descendants be delivered to us, and we will hang them before the Lord in Gibeah of Saul, whom the Lord chose." And the king said, "I will give them." その人の子孫七人を引き渡してください。われわれは主の山にあるギベオンで、彼らを主の前に木にかけましょう」。王は言った、「引き渡しましょう」。
21 7 But the king spared Mephibosheth the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, because of the Lord's oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul. しかし王はサウルの子ヨナタンの子であるメピボセテを惜しんだ。彼らの間、すなわちダビデとサウルの子ヨナタンとの間に、主をさして立てた誓いがあったからである。
21 8 So the king took Armoni and Mephibosheth, the two sons of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, whom she bore to Saul; and the five sons of Michal the daughter of Saul, whom she brought up for Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite; 王はアヤの娘リヅパがサウルに産んだふたりの子アルモニとメピボセテ、およびサウルの娘メラブがメホラびとバルジライの子アデリエルに産んだ五人の子を取って、
21 9and he delivered them into the hands of the Gibeonites, and they hanged them on the hill before the Lord. 21 12 Then David went and took the bones of Saul, and the bones of Jonathan his son, from the men of Jabesh Gilead who had stolen them from the street of Beth Shan, where the Philistines had hung them up, after the Philistines had struck down Saul in Gilboa. ダビデは行ってサウルの骨とその子ヨナタンの骨を、ヤベシギレアデの人々の所から取ってきた。これはペリシテびとがサウルをギルボアで殺した日に、木にかけたベテシャンの広場から、彼らが盗んでいたものである。

21 21 So when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea, David's brother, killed him. 彼はイスラエルをののしったので、ダビデの兄弟シメアの子ヨナタンが彼を殺した。

22 22 For I have kept the ways of the Lord, And have not wickedly departed from my God. それは、わたしが主の道を守り、悪を行わず、／わが神から離れたことがないからである。
22 23 For all His judgments were before me; And as for His statutes, I did not depart from them. そのすべてのおきてはわたしの前にあって、／わたしはその、み定めを離れたことがない。
22 24I was also blameless before Him, And I kept myself from my iniquity. わたしは主の前に欠けた所なく、／自らを守って罪を犯さなかった。
22 25 Therefore the Lord has recompensed me according to my righteousness, According to my cleanness in His eyes. それゆえ、主はわたしの義にしたがい、／その目のまえにわたしの清きにしたがって、／わたしに報いられた。
22 26 "With the merciful You will show Yourself merciful; With a blameless man You will show Yourself blameless; 忠実な者には、あなたは忠実な者となり、／欠けた所のない人には、／あなたは欠けた所のない者となり、
22 27 With the pure You will show Yourself pure; And with the devious You will show Yourself shrewd. 清い者には、あなたは清い者となり、／まがった者には、かたいぢな者となられる。

22 31 As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the Lord is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him. この神こそ、その道は非のうちどころなく、／主の約束は真実である。彼はすべて彼に寄り頼む者の盾である。
22 32 "For who is God, except the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God? 主のほかに、だれが神か、／われらの神のほか、だれが岩であるか。
22 33 God is my strength and power, And He makes my way perfect. この神こそわたしの堅固な避け所であり、／わたしの道を安全にされた。
22 34 He makes my feet like the feet of deer, And sets me on my high places. わたしの足をめじかの足のようにして、／わたしを高い所に安全に立たせ、
22 35He teaches my hands to make war, So that my arms can bend a bow of bronze. わたしの手を戦いに慣らされたので、／わたしの腕は青銅の弓を引くことができる。
22 36 "You have also given me the shield of Your salvation; Your gentleness has made me great. あなたはその救の盾をわたしに与え、／あなたの助けは、わたしを大いなる者とされた。

22 48 It is God who avenges me, And subdues the peoples under me; この神はわたしのために、あだを報い、／もろもろの民をわたしの下に置かれた。
22 49 He delivers me from my enemies. You also lift me up above those who rise against me; You have delivered me from the violent man. またわたしを敵から救い出し、／あだの上にわたしをあげ、／暴虐の人々からわたしを救い出された。

23 7 But the man who touches them Must be armed with iron and the shaft of a spear, And they shall be utterly burned with fire in their place." これに触れようとする人は／鉄や、やりの柄をもって武装する、／彼らはことごとく火で焼かれるであろう」。
23 8 These are the names of the mighty men whom David had: Josheb-Basshebeth the Tachmonite, chief among the captains. He was called Adino the Eznite, because he had killed eight hundred men at one time. ダビデの勇士たちの名は次のとおりである。タクモンびとヨセブ・バッセベテはかの三人のうちの長であったが、彼はいちじに八百人に向かって、やりをふるい、それを殺した。

23 11 And after him was Shammah the son of Agee the Hararite. The Philistines had gathered together into a troop where there was a piece of ground full of lentils. Then the people fled from the Philistines. 彼の次はハラルびとアゲの子シャンマであった。ある時、ペリシテびとはレヒに集まった。そこに一面にレンズ豆を作った地所があった。民はペリシテびとの前から逃げたが、
23 12 But he stationed himself in the middle of the field, defended it, and killed the Philistines. And the Lord brought about a great victory. 彼はその地所の中に立って、これを防ぎ、ペリシテびとを殺した。そして主は大いなる救を与えられた。
23 13 Then three of the thirty chief men went down at harvest time and came to David at the cave of Adullam. And the troop of Philistines encamped in the Valley of Rephaim. 三十人の長たちのうちの三人は下って行って刈入れのころに、アドラムのほら穴にいるダビデのもとにきた。時にペリシテびとの一隊はレパイムの谷に陣を取っていた。
23 14 David was then in the stronghold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Bethlehem その時ダビデは要害におり、ペリシテびとの先陣はベツレヘムにあったが、
23 15 And David said with longing, "Oh, that someone would give me a drink of the water from the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!" ダビデは、せつに望んで、「だれかベツレヘムの門のかたわらにある井戸の水をわたしに飲ませてくれるとよいのだが」と言った。
23 16 So the three mighty men broke through the camp of the Philistines, drew water from the well of Bethlehem that was by the gate, and took it and brought it to David. Nevertheless he would not drink it, but poured it out to the Lord. そこでその三人の勇士たちはペリシテびとの陣を突き通って、ベツレヘムの門のかたわらにある井戸の水を汲み取って、ダビデのもとに携えてきた。しかしダビデはそれを飲もうとはせず、主の前にそれを注いで、
23 17 And he said, "Far be it from me, O Lord, that I should do this! Is this not the blood of the men who went in jeopardy of their lives?" Therefore he would not drink it. These things were done by the three mighty men. 言った、「主よ、わたしは断じて飲むことをいたしません。いのちをかけて行った人々の血を、どうしてわたしは飲むことができましょう」。こうして彼はそれを飲もうとはしなかった。三勇士はこれらのことを行った。

23 20 Benaiah was the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man from Kabzeel, who had done many deeds. He had killed two lion-like heroes of Moab. 23 21 And he killed an Egyptian, a spectacular man. 24 4 Nevertheless the king's word prevailed against Joab and against the captains of the army. Therefore Joab and the captains of the army went out from the presence of the king to count the people of Israel. しかし王の言葉がヨアブと軍の長たちとに勝ったので、ヨアブと軍の長たちとは王の前を退き、イスラエルの民を数えるために出て行った。
24 5 And they crossed over the Jordan and camped in Aroer, on the right side of the town which is in the midst of the ravine of Gad, and toward Jazer. 彼らはヨルダンを渡り、アロエルから、すなわち谷の中にある町から始めて、ガドに向かい、ヤゼルに進んだ。
24 6 Then they came to Gilead and to the land of Tahtim Hodshi; they came to Dan Jaan and around to Sidon; それからギレアデに行き、またヘテびとの地にあるカデシに行き、それからダンに至り、ダンからシドンにまわり、
24 7 and they came to the stronghold of Tyre and to all the cities of the Hivites and the Canaanites. Then they went out to South Judah as far as Beersheba. またツロの要害に行き、ヒビびと、およびカナンびとのすべての町に行き、ユダのネゲブに出てベエルシバへ行った。
24 8 So when they had gone through all the land, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days. こうして彼らは国をあまねく行き巡って、九か月と二十日を経てエルサレムにきた。
24 9 Then Joab gave the sum of the number of the people to the king. And there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men who drew the sword, and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men. そしてヨアブは民の総数を王に告げた。すなわちイスラエルには、つるぎを抜く勇士たちが八十万あった。ただしユダの人々は五十万であった。
24 10 And David's heart condemned him after he had numbered the people. So David said to the Lord, "I have sinned greatly in what I have done; but now, I pray, O Lord, take away the iniquity of Your servant, for I have done very foolishly." しかしダビデは民を数えた後、心に責められた。そこでダビデは主に言った、「わたしはこれをおこなって大きな罪を犯しました。しかし主よ、今どうぞしもべの罪を取り去ってください。わたしはひじょうに愚かなことをいたしました」。
24 11 Now when David arose in the morning, the word of the Lord came to the prophet Gad, David's seer, saying, ダビデが朝起きたとき、主の言葉はダビデの先見者である預言者ガデに臨んで言った、
24 12 "Go and tell David, 'Thus says the Lord: "I offer you three things; choose one of them for yourself, that I may do it to you." ' " 「行ってダビデに言いなさい、『主はこう仰せられる、「わたしは三つのことを示す。あなたはその一つを選ぶがよい。わたしはそれをあなたに行うであろう」と』」。
24 13 So Gad came to David and told him; and he said to him, "Shall seven years of famine come to you in your land? Or shall you flee three months before your enemies, while they pursue you? Or shall there be three days' plague in your land? Now consider and see what answer I should take back to Him who sent me." ガデはダビデのもとにきて、彼に言った、「あなたの国に三年のききんをこさせようか。あなたが敵に追われて三か月敵の前に逃げるようにしようか。それとも、あなたの国に三日の疫病をおくろうか。あなたは考えて、わたしがどの答を、わたしをつかわされた方になすべきかを決めなさい」。
24 14 And David said to Gad, "I am in great distress. Please let us fall into the hand of the Lord, for His mercies are great; but do not let me fall into the hand of man." ダビデはガデに言った、「わたしはひじょうに悩んでいますが、主のあわれみは大きいゆえ、われわれを主の手に陥らせてください。わたしを人の手には陥らせないでください」。
24 15 So the Lord sent a plague upon Israel from the morning till the appointed time. From Dan to Beersheba seventy thousand men of the people died. そこで主は朝から定めの時まで疫病をイスラエルに下された。ダンからベエルシバまでに民の死んだ者は七万人あった。
24 16 And when the angel stretched out His hand over Jerusalem to destroy it, the Lord relented from the destruction, and said to the angel who was destroying the people, "It is enough; now restrain your hand." And the angel of the Lord was by the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite. 天の使が手をエルサレムに伸べてこれを滅ぼそうとしたが、主はこの害悪を悔い、民を滅ぼしている天の使に言われた、「もはや、じゅうぶんである。今あなたの手をとどめるがよい」。その時、主の使はエブスびとアラウナの打ち場のかたわらにいた。
24 17 Then David spoke to the Lord when he saw the angel who was striking the people, and said, "Surely I have sinned, and I have done wickedly; but these sheep, what have they done? Let Your hand, I pray, be against me and against my father's house." ダビデは民を撃っている天の使を見た時、主に言った、「わたしは罪を犯しました。わたしは悪を行いました。しかしこれらの羊たちは何をしたのですか。どうぞあなたの手をわたしとわたしの父の家に向けてください」。
24 18 And Gad came that day to David and said to him, "Go up, erect an altar to the Lord on the threshing floor of Araunah the Jebusite." その日ガデはダビデのところにきて彼に言った、「上って行ってエブスびとアラウナの打ち場で主に祭壇を建てなさい」。
24 19 So David, according to the word of Gad, went up as the Lord commanded. ダビデはガデの言葉に従い、主の命じられたように上って行った。
24 20 Now Araunah looked, and saw the king and his servants coming toward him. So Araunah went out and bowed before the king with his face to the ground. アラウナは見おろして、王とそのしもべたちが自分の方に進んでくるのを見たので、アラウナは出てきて王の前に地にひれ伏して拝した。
24 21 Then Araunah said, "Why has my lord the king come to his servant?" And David said, "To buy the threshing floor from you, to build an altar to the Lord, that the plague may be withdrawn from the people." そしてアラウナは言った、「どうして王わが主は、しもべの所にこられましたか」。ダビデは言った、「あなたから打ち場を買い取り、主に祭壇を築いて民に下る災をとどめるためです」。
24 22Now Araunah said to David, "Let my lord the king take and offer up whatever seems good to him. Look, here are oxen for burnt sacrifice, and threshing implements and the yokes of the oxen for wood. アラウナはダビデに言った、「どうぞ王、わが主のよいと思われる物を取ってささげてください。燔祭にする牛もあります。たきぎにする打穀機も牛のくびきもあります。
24 23 All these, O king, Araunah has given to the king." And Araunah said to the king, "May the Lord your God accept you." 王よ、アラウナはこれをことごとく王にささげます」。アラウナはまた王に、「あなたの神、主があなたを受けいれられますように」と言った。
24 24 Then the king said to Araunah, "No, but I will surely buy it from you for a price; nor will I offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God with that which costs me nothing." So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver. しかし王はアラウナに言った、「いいえ、代価を支払ってそれをあなたから買い取ります。わたしは費用をかけずに燔祭をわたしの神、主にささげることはしません」。こうしてダビデは銀五十シケルで打ち場と牛とを買い取った。
24 25 And David built there an altar to the Lord, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the Lord heeded the prayers for the land, and the plague was withdrawn from Israel. ダビデはその所で主に祭壇を築き、燔祭と酬恩祭をささげた。そこで主はその地のために祈を聞かれたので、災がイスラエルに下ることはとどまった。
