ペテロの手紙第二	2 Peter 1	1
1	1 Simon Peter, a bondservant and apostle of Jesus Christ, To those who have obtained like precious faith with us by the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ:	イエス・キリストの僕また使徒であるシメオン・ペテロから、わたしたちの神と救主イエス・キリストとの義によって、わたしたちと同じ尊い信仰を授かった人々へ。
1	2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord,	神とわたしたちの主イエスとを知ることによって、恵みと平安とが、あなたがたに豊かに加わるように。
1	3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,	いのちと信心とにかかわるすべてのことは、主イエスの神聖な力によって、わたしたちに与えられている。それは、ご自身の栄光と徳とによって、わたしたちを召されたかたを知る知識によるのである。
1	4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.	また、それらのものによって、尊く、大いなる約束が、わたしたちに与えられている。それは、あなたがたが、世にある欲のために滅びることを免れ、神の性質にあずかる者となるためである。
1	5 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge,	それだから、あなたがたは、力の限りをつくして、あなたがたの信仰に徳を加え、徳に知識を、
1	6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness,	知識に節制を、節制に忍耐を、忍耐に信心を、
1	7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.	信心に兄弟愛を、兄弟愛に愛を加えなさい。
1	8 For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.	これらのものがあなたがたに備わって、いよいよ豊かになるならば、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストを知る知識について、あなたがたは、怠る者、実を結ばない者となることはないであろう。
1	9 For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.	これらのものを備えていない者は、盲人であり、近視の者であり、自分の以前の罪がきよめられたことを忘れている者である。
1	10 Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your call and election sure, for if you do these things you will never stumble;	兄弟たちよ。それだから、ますます励んで、あなたがたの受けた召しと選びとを、確かなものにしなさい。そうすれば、決してあやまちに陥ることはない。
1	11 for so an entrance will be supplied to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.	こうして、わたしたちの主また救主イエス・キリストの永遠の国に入る恵みが、あなたがたに豊かに与えられるからである。
1	12 For this reason I will not be negligent to remind you always of these things, though you know and are established in the present truth.	それだから、あなたがたは既にこれらのことを知っており、また、いま持っている真理に堅く立ってはいるが、わたしは、これらのことをいつも、あなたがたに思い起させたいのである。
1	13 Yes, I think it is right, as long as I am in this tent, to stir you up by reminding you,	わたしがこの幕屋にいる間、あなたがたに思い起させて、奮い立たせることが適当と思う。
1	14knowing that shortly I must put off my tent, just as our Lord Jesus Christ showed me.	それは、わたしたちの主イエス・キリストもわたしに示して下さったように、わたしのこの幕屋を脱ぎ去る時が間近であることを知っているからである。
1	15 Moreover I will be careful to ensure that you always have a reminder of these things after my decease.	わたしが世を去った後にも、これらのことを、あなたがたにいつも思い出させるように努めよう。
1	16 For we did not follow cunningly devised fables when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty.	わたしたちの主イエス・キリストの力と来臨とを、あなたがたに知らせた時、わたしたちは、巧みな作り話を用いることはしなかった。わたしたちが、そのご威光の目撃者なのだからである。
1	17 For He received from God the Father honor and glory when such a voice came to Him from the Excellent Glory: "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased."	イエスは父なる神からほまれと栄光とをお受けになったが、その時、おごそかな栄光の中から次のようなみ声がかかったのである、「これはわたしの愛する子、わたしの心にかなう者である」。
1	18 And we heard this voice which came from heaven when we were with Him on the holy mountain.	わたしたちもイエスと共に聖なる山にいて、天から出たこの声を聞いたのである。
1	19 And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts;	こうして、預言の言葉は、わたしたちにいっそう確実なものになった。あなたがたも、夜が明け、明星がのぼって、あなたがたの心の中を照すまで、この預言の言葉を暗やみに輝くともしびとして、それに目をとめているがよい。
1	20 knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation,	聖書の預言はすべて、自分勝手に解釈すべきでないことを、まず第一に知るべきである。
1	21 for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.	なぜなら、預言は決して人間の意志から出たものではなく、人々が聖霊に感じ、神によって語ったものだからである。

2	1 But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.	しかし、民の間に、にせ預言者が起ったことがあるが、それと同じく、あなたがたの間にも、にせ教師が現れるであろう。彼らは、滅びに至らせる異端をひそかに持ち込み、自分たちをあがなって下さった主を否定して、すみやかな滅亡を自分の身に招いている。
2	2 And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed.	また、大ぜいの人が彼らの放縦を見習い、そのために、真理の道がそしりを受けるに至るのである。
2	3 By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber.	彼らは、貪欲のために、甘言をもってあなたがたをあざむき、利をむさぼるであろう。彼らに対するさばきは昔から猶予なく行われ、彼らの滅亡も滞ることはない。
2	4 For if God did not spare the angels who sinned, but cast them down to hell and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved for judgment;	神は、罪を犯した御使たちを許しておかないで、彼らを下界におとしいれ、さばきの時まで暗やみの穴に閉じ込めておかれた。
2	5 and did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly;	また、古い世界をそのままにしておかないで、その不信仰な世界に洪水をきたらせ、ただ、義の宣伝者ノアたち八人の者だけを保護された。
2	6and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes, condemned them to destruction, making them an example to those who afterward would live ungodly;	また、ソドムとゴモラの町々を灰に帰せしめて破滅に処し、不信仰に走ろうとする人々の見せしめとし、
2	7 and delivered righteous Lot, who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked	ただ、非道の者どもの放縦な行いによってなやまされていた義人ロトだけを救い出された。
2	8 (for that righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented his righteous soul from day to day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds)--	（この義人は、彼らの間に住み、彼らの不法の行いを日々見聞きして、その正しい心を痛めていたのである。）
2	9 then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under punishment for the day of judgment,	こういうわけで、主は、信心深い者を試錬の中から救い出し、また、不義な者ども、
2	10and especially those who walk according to the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise authority. They are presumptuous, self-willed. They are not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries,	特に、汚れた情欲におぼれ肉にしたがって歩み、また、権威ある者を軽んじる人々を罰して、さばきの日まで閉じ込めておくべきことを、よくご存じなのである。こういう人々は、大胆不敵なわがまま者であって、栄光ある者たちをそしってはばかるところがない。
2	11 whereas angels, who are greater in power and might, do not bring a reviling accusation against them before the Lord.	しかし、御使たちは、勢いにおいても力においても、彼らにまさっているにかかわらず、彼らを主のみまえに訴えそしることはしない。
2	12 But these, like natural brute beasts made to be caught and destroyed, speak evil of the things they do not understand, and will utterly perish in their own corruption,	これらの者は、捕えられ、ほふられるために生れてきた、分別のない動物のようなもので、自分が知りもしないことをそしり、その不義の報いとして罰を受け、必ず滅ぼされてしまうのである。
2	13 and will receive the wages of unrighteousness, as those who count it pleasure to carouse in the daytime. They are spots and blemishes, carousing in their own deceptions while they feast with you,	彼らは、真昼でさえ酒食を楽しみ、あなたがたと宴会に同席して、だましごとにふけっている。彼らは、しみであり、きずである。
2	14 having eyes full of adultery and that cannot cease from sin, enticing unstable souls. They have a heart trained in covetous practices, and are accursed children.	その目は淫行を追い、罪を犯して飽くことを知らない。彼らは心の定まらない者を誘惑し、その心は貪欲に慣れ、のろいの子となっている。
2	15 They have forsaken the right way and gone astray, following the way of Balaam the son of Beor, who loved the wages of unrighteousness;	彼らは正しい道からはずれて迷いに陥り、ベオルの子バラムの道に従った。バラムは不義の実を愛し、
2	16 but he was rebuked for his iniquity: a dumb donkey speaking with a man's voice restrained the madness of the prophet.	そのために、自分のあやまちに対するとがめを受けた。ものを言わないろばが、人間の声でものを言い、この預言者の狂気じみたふるまいをはばんだのである。
2	17 These are wells without water, clouds carried by a tempest, for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.	この人々は、いわば、水のない井戸、突風に吹きはらわれる霧であって、彼らには暗やみが用意されている。
2	18 For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through lewdness, the ones who have actually escaped from those who live in error.	彼らはむなしい誇を語り、迷いの中に生きている人々の間から、かろうじてのがれてきた者たちを、肉欲と色情とによって誘惑し、
2	19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are slaves of corruption; for by whom a person is overcome, by him also he is brought into bondage.	この人々に自由を与えると約束しながら、彼ら自身は滅亡の奴隷になっている。おおよそ、人は征服者の奴隷となるものである。
2	20 For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning.	彼らが、主また救主なるイエス・キリストを知ることにより、この世の汚れからのがれた後、またそれに巻き込まれて征服されるならば、彼らの後の状態は初めよりも、もっと悪くなる。
2	21 For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them.	義の道を心得ていながら、自分に授けられた聖なる戒めにそむくよりは、むしろ義の道を知らなかった方がよい。
2	22 But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: "A dog returns to his own vomit," and, "a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire."	ことわざに、「犬は自分の吐いた物に帰り、豚は洗われても、また、どろの中にころがって行く」とあるが、彼らの身に起ったことは、そのとおりである。

3	1 Beloved, I now write to you this second epistle (in both of which I stir up your pure minds by way of reminder),	愛する者たちよ。わたしは今この第二の手紙をあなたがたに書きおくり、これらの手紙によって記憶を呼び起し、あなたがたの純真な心を奮い立たせようとした。
3	2 that you may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior,	それは、聖なる預言者たちがあらかじめ語った言葉と、あなたがたの使徒たちが伝えた主なる救主の戒めとを、思い出させるためである。
3	3 knowing this first: that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts,	まず次のことを知るべきである。終りの時にあざける者たちが、あざけりながら出てきて、自分の欲情のままに生活し、
3	4 and saying, "Where is the promise of His coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation."	「主の来臨の約束はどうなったのか。先祖たちが眠りについてから、すべてのものは天地創造の初めからそのままであって、変ってはいない」と言うであろう。
3	5 For this they willfully forget: that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of water and in the water,	すなわち、彼らはこのことを認めようとはしない。古い昔に天が存在し、地は神の言によって、水がもとになり、また、水によって成ったのであるが、
3	6 by which the world that then existed perished, being flooded with water.	その時の世界は、御言により水でおおわれて滅んでしまった。
3	7 But the heavens and the earth which are now preserved by the same word, are reserved for fire until the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.	しかし、今の天と地とは、同じ御言によって保存され、不信仰な人々がさばかれ、滅ぼさるべき日に火で焼かれる時まで、そのまま保たれているのである。
3	8 But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.	愛する者たちよ。この一事を忘れてはならない。主にあっては、一日は千年のようであり、千年は一日のようである。
3	9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.	ある人々がおそいと思っているように、主は約束の実行をおそくしておられるのではない。ただ、ひとりも滅びることがなく、すべての者が悔改めに至ることを望み、あなたがたに対してながく忍耐しておられるのである。
3	10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.	しかし、主の日は盗人のように襲って来る。その日には、天は大音響をたてて消え去り、天体は焼けてくずれ、地とその上に造り出されたものも、みな焼きつくされるであろう。
3	11Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness,	このように、これらはみなくずれ落ちていくものであるから、神の日の到来を熱心に待ち望んでいるあなたがたは、
3	12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?	極力、きよく信心深い行いをしていなければならない。その日には、天は燃えくずれ、天体は焼けうせてしまう。
3	13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.	しかし、わたしたちは、神の約束に従って、義の住む新しい天と新しい地とを待ち望んでいる。
3	14 Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless;	愛する者たちよ。それだから、この日を待っているあなたがたは、しみもなくきずもなく、安らかな心で、神のみまえに出られるように励みなさい。
3	15 and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation--as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you,	また、わたしたちの主の寛容は救のためであると思いなさい。このことは、わたしたちの愛する兄弟パウロが、彼に与えられた知恵によって、あなたがたに書きおくったとおりである。
3	16 as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures.	彼は、どの手紙にもこれらのことを述べている。その手紙の中には、ところどころ、わかりにくい箇所もあって、無学で心の定まらない者たちは、ほかの聖書についてもしているように、無理な解釈をほどこして、自分の滅亡を招いている。
3	17 You therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked;	愛する者たちよ。それだから、あなたがたはかねてから心がけているように、非道の者の惑わしに誘い込まれて、あなたがた自身の確信を失うことのないように心がけなさい。
3	18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.	そして、わたしたちの主また救主イエス・キリストの恵みと知識とにおいて、ますます豊かになりなさい。栄光が、今も、また永遠の日に至るまでも、主にあるように、アァメン。
