箴言 Proverbs 1 1
1 1 The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel: ダビデの子、イスラエルの王ソロモンの箴言。
1 2 To know wisdom and instruction, To perceive the words of understanding, これは人に知恵と教訓とを知らせ、悟りの言葉をさとらせ、

1 5 A wise man will hear and increase learning, And a man of understanding will attain wise counsel, 賢い者はこれを聞いて学に進み、さとい者は指導を得る。

箴言 Proverbs 2 2
2 1 My son, if you receive my words, And treasure my commands within you, わが子よ、もしあなたが／わたしの言葉を受け、わたしの戒めを、あなたの心におさめ、
2 2 So that you incline your ear to wisdom, And apply your heart to understanding; あなたの耳を知恵に傾け、あなたの心を悟りに向け、

箴言 Proverbs 3 3
3 1 My son, do not forget my law, But let your heart keep my commands; わが子よ、わたしの教を忘れず、わたしの戒めを心にとめよ。
3 2 For length of days and long life And peace they will add to you. そうすれば、これはあなたの日を長くし、命の年を延べ、あなたに平安を増し加える。

3 11 My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, Nor detest His correction; わが子よ、主の懲らしめを軽んじてはならない、その戒めをきらってはならない。
3 12 For whom the Lord loves He corrects, Just as a father the son in whom he delights. 主は、愛する者を、戒められるからである、あたかも父がその愛する子を戒めるように。
3 13 Happy is the man who finds wisdom, And the man who gains understanding; 知恵を求めて得る人、悟りを得る人はさいわいである。
3 14 For her proceeds are better than the profits of silver, And her gain than fine gold. 知恵によって得るものは、銀によって得るものにまさり、その利益は精金よりも良いからである。
3 15 She is more precious than rubies, And all the things you may desire cannot compare with her. 知恵は宝石よりも尊く、あなたの望む何物も、これと比べるに足りない。

6 15 Therefore his calamity shall come suddenly; Suddenly he shall be broken without remedy. それゆえ、災は、にわかに彼に臨み、たちまちにして打ち敗られ、助かることはない。
6 16 These six things the Lord hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: 主の憎まれるものが六つある、否、その心に、忌みきらわれるものが七つある。
6 17 A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, すなわち、高ぶる目、偽りを言う舌、罪なき人の血を流す手、
6 18 A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, 悪しき計りごとをめぐらす心、すみやかに悪に走る足、
6 19 A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren. 偽りをのべる証人、また兄弟のうちに争いをおこす人がこれである。
6 20 My son, keep your father's command, And do not forsake the law of your mother. わが子よ、あなたの父の戒めを守り、あなたの母の教を捨てるな。
6 21 Bind them continually upon your heart; Tie them around your neck. つねに、これをあなたの心に結び、あなたの首のまわりにつけよ。
6 22 When you roam, they will lead you; When you sleep, they will keep you; And when you awake, they will speak with you. これは、あなたが歩くとき、あなたを導き、あなたが寝るとき、あなたを守り、あなたが目ざめるとき、あなたと語る。
6 23 For the commandment is a lamp, And the law a light; Reproofs of instruction are the way of life, 戒めはともしびである、教は光である、教訓の懲らしめは命の道である。
6 24 To keep you from the evil woman, From the flattering tongue of a seductress. これは、あなたを守って、悪い女に近づかせず、みだらな女の、巧みな舌に惑わされぬようにする。

6 26 For by means of a harlot A man is reduced to a crust of bread; And an adulteress will prey upon his precious life. 遊女は一塊のパンのために雇われる、しかし、みだらな女は人の尊い命を求める。

6 30People do not despise a thief If he steals to satisfy himself when he is starving. 盗びとが飢えたとき、その飢えを満たすために盗むならば、人は彼を軽んじないであろうか。
6 31 Yet when he is found, he must restore sevenfold; He may have to give up all the substance of his house. もし捕えられたなら、その七倍を償い、その家の貨財を、ことごとく出さなければならない。
6 32 Whoever commits adultery with a woman lacks understanding; He who does so destroys his own soul. 女と姦淫を行う者は思慮がない。これを行う者はおのれを滅ぼし、
6 33 Wounds and dishonor he will get, And his reproach will not be wiped away. 傷と、はずかしめとを受けて、その恥をすすぐことができない。
6 34 For jealousy is a husband's fury; Therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance. ねたみは、その夫を激しく怒らせるゆえ、恨みを報いるとき、容赦することはない。
6 35 He will accept no recompense, Nor will he be appeased though you give many gifts. どのようなあがない物をも顧みず、多くの贈り物をしても、和らがない。
箴言 Proverbs 7 7
7 1 My son, keep my words, And treasure my commands within you. わが子よ、わたしの言葉を守り、わたしの戒めをあなたの心にたくわえよ。
7 2 Keep my commands and live, And my law as the apple of your eye. わたしの戒めを守って命を得よ、わたしの教を守ること、ひとみを守るようにせよ。
7 3 Bind them on your fingers; Write them on the tablet of your heart. これをあなたの指にむすび、これをあなたの心の碑にしるせ。
7 4 Say to wisdom, "You are my sister," And call understanding your nearest kin, 知恵に向かって、「あなたはわが姉妹だ」と言い、悟りに向かっては、あなたの友と呼べ。
7 5 That they may keep you from the immoral woman, From the seductress who flatters with her words. そうすれば、これはあなたを守って遊女に迷わせず、言葉巧みな、みだらな女に近づかせない。

8 4 "To you, O men, I call, And my voice is to the sons of men. 「人々よ、わたしはあなたがたに呼ばわり、声をあげて人の子らを呼ぶ。
8 5 O you simple ones, understand prudence, And you fools, be of an understanding heart. 思慮のない者よ、悟りを得よ、愚かな者よ、知恵を得よ。
8 6 Listen, for I will speak of excellent things, And from the opening of my lips will come right things; 聞け、わたしは高貴な事を語り、わがくちびるは正しい事を語り出す。
8 7 For my mouth will speak truth; Wickedness is an abomination to my lips. わが口は真実を述べ、わがくちびるは悪しき事を憎む。
8 8 All the words of my mouth are with righteousness; Nothing crooked or perverse is in them. わが口の言葉はみな正しい、そのうちに偽りと、よこしまはない。
8 9 They are all plain to him who understands, And right to those who find knowledge. これはみな、さとき者の明らかにするところ、知識を得る者の正しとするところである。
8 10 Receive my instruction, and not silver, And knowledge rather than choice gold; あなたがたは銀を受けるよりも、わたしの教を受けよ、精金よりも、むしろ知識を得よ。
8 11For wisdom is better than rubies, And all the things one may desire cannot be compared with her. 知恵は宝石にまさり、あなたがたの望むすべての物は、これと比べるにたりない。
8 12 "I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, And find out knowledge and discretion. 知恵であるわたしは悟りをすみかとし、知識と慎みとをもつ。
8 13 The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way And the perverse mouth I hate. 主を恐れるとは悪を憎むことである。わたしは高ぶりと、おごりと、悪しき道と、偽りの言葉とを憎む。
8 14 Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom; I am understanding, I have strength. 計りごとと、確かな知恵とは、わたしにある、わたしには悟りがあり、わたしには力がある。
8 15 By me kings reign, And rulers decree justice. わたしによって、王たる者は世を治め、君たる者は正しい定めを立てる。
8 16By me princes rule, and nobles, All the judges of the earth. わたしによって、主たる者は支配し、つかさたる者は地を治める。

8 20 I traverse the way of righteousness, In the midst of the paths of justice, わたしは正義の道、公正な道筋の中を歩み、
8 21 That I may cause those who love me to inherit wealth, That I may fill their treasuries. わたしを愛する者に宝を得させ、またその倉を満ちさせる。
8 22 "The Lord possessed me at the beginning of His way, Before His works of old. 主が昔そのわざをなし始められるとき、そのわざの初めとして、わたしを造られた。
8 23 I have been established from everlasting, From the beginning, before there was ever an earth. いにしえ、地のなかった時、初めに、わたしは立てられた。
8 24 When there were no depths I was brought forth, When there were no fountains abounding with water. まだ海もなく、また大いなる水の泉もなかった時、わたしはすでに生れ、
8 25 Before the mountains were settled, Before the hills, I was brought forth; 山もまだ定められず、丘もまだなかった時、わたしはすでに生れた。
8 26 While as yet He had not made the earth or the fields, Or the primeval dust of the world. すなわち神がまだ地をも野をも、地のちりのもとをも造られなかった時である。
8 27 When He prepared the heavens, I was there, When He drew a circle on the face of the deep, 彼が天を造り、海のおもてに、大空を張られたとき、わたしはそこにあった。
8 28 When He established the clouds above, When He strengthened the fountains of the deep, 彼が上に空を堅く立たせ、淵の泉をつよく定め、
8 29When He assigned to the sea its limit, So that the waters would not transgress His command, When He marked out the foundations of the earth, 海にその限界をたて、水にその岸を越えないようにし、また地の基を定められたとき、
8 30 Then I was beside Him as a master craftsman; And I was daily His delight, Rejoicing always before Him, わたしは、そのかたわらにあって、名匠となり、日々に喜び、常にその前に楽しみ、
8 31 Rejoicing in His inhabited world, And my delight was with the sons of men. その地で楽しみ、また世の人を喜んだ。
8 32 "Now therefore, listen to me, my children, For blessed are those who keep my ways. それゆえ、子供らよ、今わたしの言うことを聞け、わたしの道を守る者はさいわいである。
8 33 Hear instruction and be wise, And do not disdain it. 教訓を聞いて、知恵を得よ、これを捨ててはならない。
8 34Blessed is the man who listens to me, Watching daily at my gates, Waiting at the posts of my doors. わたしの言うことを聞き、日々わたしの門のかたわらでうかがい、わたしの戸口の柱のわきで待つ人はさいわいである。
8 35 For whoever finds me finds life, And obtains favor from the Lord; それは、わたしを得る者は命を得、主から恵みを得るからである。
8 36 But he who sins against me wrongs his own soul; All those who hate me love death." わたしを失う者は自分の命をそこなう、すべてわたしを憎む者は死を愛する者である」。
箴言 Proverbs 9 9
9 1 Wisdom has built her house, She has hewn out her seven pillars; 知恵は自分の家を建て、その七つの柱を立て、
9 2 She has slaughtered her meat, She has mixed her wine, She has also furnished her table. 獣をほふり、酒を混ぜ合わせて、ふるまいを備え、
9 3 She has sent out her maidens, She cries out from the highest places of the city, はしためをつかわして、町の高い所で呼ばわり言わせた、
9 4 "Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!" As for him who lacks understanding, she says to him, 「思慮のない者よ、ここに来れ」と。また、知恵のない者に言う、
9 5"Come, eat of my bread And drink of the wine I have mixed. 「来て、わたしのパンを食べ、わたしの混ぜ合わせた酒をのみ、
9 6Forsake foolishness and live, And go in the way of understanding. 思慮のないわざを捨てて命を得、悟りの道を歩め」と。
9 7"He who corrects a scoffer gets shame for himself, And he who rebukes a wicked man only harms himself. あざける者を戒める者は、自ら恥を得、悪しき者を責める者は自ら傷を受ける。
9 8 Do not correct a scoffer, lest he hate you; Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you. あざける者を責めるな、おそらく彼はあなたを憎むであろう。知恵ある者を責めよ、彼はあなたを愛する。
9 9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be still wiser; Teach a just man, and he will increase in learning. 知恵ある者に教訓を授けよ、彼はますます知恵を得る。正しい者を教えよ、彼は学に進む。

9 13 A foolish woman is clamorous; She is simple, and knows nothing. 愚かな女は、騒がしく、みだらで、恥を知らない。

箴言 Proverbs 10 10
10 1 The Proverbs of Solomon: A wise son makes a glad father, But a foolish son is the grief of his mother. ソロモンの箴言。知恵ある子は父を喜ばせ、愚かな子は母の悲しみとなる。
10 2 Treasures of wickedness profit nothing, But righteousness delivers from death. 不義の宝は益なく、正義は人を救い出して、死を免れさせる。
10 3 The Lord will not allow the righteous soul to famish, But He casts away the desire of the wicked. 主は正しい人を飢えさせず、悪しき者の欲望をくじかれる。
10 4 He who has a slack hand becomes poor, But the hand of the diligent makes rich. 手を動かすことを怠る者は貧しくなり、勤め働く者の手は富を得る。
10 5 He who gathers in summer is a wise son; He who sleeps in harvest is a son who causes shame. 夏のうちに集める者は賢い子であり、刈入れの時に眠る者は恥をきたらせる子である。
10 6 Blessings are on the head of the righteous, But violence covers the mouth of the wicked. 正しい者のこうべには祝福があり、悪しき者の口は暴虐を隠す。
10 7 The memory of the righteous is blessed, But the name of the wicked will rot. 正しい者の名はほめられ、悪しき者の名は朽ちる。
10 8 The wise in heart will receive commands, But a prating fool will fall. 心のさとき者は戒めを受ける、むだ口をたたく愚かな者は滅ぼされる。
10 9 He who walks with integrity walks securely, But he who perverts his ways will become known. まっすぐに歩む者の歩みは安全である、しかし、その道を曲げる者は災にあう。
10 10 He who winks with the eye causes trouble, But a prating fool will fall. 目で、めくばせする者は憂いをおこし、あからさまに、戒める者は平和をきたらせる。
10 11 The mouth of the righteous is a well of life, But violence covers the mouth of the wicked. 正しい者の口は命の泉である、悪しき者の口は暴虐を隠す。
10 12 Hatred stirs up strife, But love covers all sins. 憎しみは、争いを起し、愛はすべてのとがをおおう。
10 13 Wisdom is found on the lips of him who has understanding, But a rod is for the back of him who is devoid of understanding. さとき者のくちびるには知恵があり、知恵のない者の背にはむちがある。
10 14 Wise people store up knowledge, But the mouth of the foolish is near destruction. 知恵ある者は知識をたくわえる、愚かな者のむだ口は、今にも滅びをきたらせる。
10 15 The rich man's wealth is his strong city; The destruction of the poor is their poverty. 富める者の宝は、その堅き城であり、貧しい者の乏しきは、その滅びである。
10 16 The labor of the righteous leads to life, The wages of the wicked to sin. 正しい者の受ける賃銀は命に導き、悪しき者の利得は罪に至る。
10 17 He who keeps instruction is in the way of life, But he who refuses correction goes astray. 教訓を守る者は命の道にあり、懲らしめを捨てる者は道をふみ迷う。
10 18 Whoever hides hatred has lying lips, And whoever spreads slander is a fool. 憎しみを隠す者には偽りのくちびるがあり、そしりを口に出す者は愚かな者である。
10 19 In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, But he who restrains his lips is wise. 言葉が多ければ、とがを免れない、自分のくちびるを制する者は知恵がある。
10 20The tongue of the righteous is choice silver; The heart of the wicked is worth little. 正しい者の舌は精銀である、悪しき者の心は価値が少ない。
10 21 The lips of the righteous feed many, But fools die for lack of wisdom. 正しい者のくちびるは多くの人を養い、愚かな者は知恵がなくて死ぬ。
10 22 The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow with it. 主の祝福は人を富ませる、主はこれになんの悲しみをも加えない。
10 23 To do evil is like sport to a fool, But a man of understanding has wisdom. 愚かな者は、戯れ事のように悪を行う、さとき人には賢い行いが楽しみである。
10 24 The fear of the wicked will come upon him, And the desire of the righteous will be granted. 悪しき者の恐れることは自分に来り、正しい者の願うことは与えられる。
10 25 When the whirlwind passes by, the wicked is no more, But the righteous has an everlasting foundation. あらしが通りすぎる時、悪しき者は、もはや、いなくなり、正しい者は永久に堅く立てられる。
10 26 As vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, So is the lazy man to those who send him. なまけ者は、これをつかわす者にとっては、酢が歯をいため、煙が目を悩ますようなものだ。
10 27 The fear of the Lord prolongs days, But the years of the wicked will be shortened. 主を恐れることは人の命の日を多くする、悪しき者の年は縮められる。
10 28 The hope of the righteous will be gladness, But the expectation of the wicked will perish. 正しい者の望みは喜びに終り、悪しき者の望みは絶える。
10 29 The way of the Lord is strength for the upright, But destruction will come to the workers of iniquity. 主は、まっすぐに歩む者には城であり、悪を行う者には滅びである。
10 30 The righteous will never be removed, But the wicked will not inhabit the earth. 正しい者はいつまでも動かされることはない、悪しき者は、地に住むことができない。
10 31 The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom, But the perverse tongue will be cut out. 正しい者の口は知恵をいだし、偽りの舌は抜かれる。
10 32 The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable, But the mouth of the wicked what is perverse. 正しい者のくちびるは喜ばるべきことをわきまえ、悪しき者の口は偽りを語る。
箴言 Proverbs 11 11
11 1 Dishonest scales are an abomination to the Lord, But a just weight is His delight. 偽りのはかりは主に憎まれ、正しいふんどうは彼に喜ばれる。
11 2 When pride comes, then comes shame; But with the humble is wisdom. 高ぶりが来れば、恥もまた来る、へりくだる者には知恵がある。
11 3 The integrity of the upright will guide them, But the perversity of the unfaithful will destroy them. 正しい者の誠実はその人を導き、不信実な者のよこしまはその人を滅ぼす。
11 4 Riches do not profit in the day of wrath, But righteousness delivers from death. 宝は怒りの日に益なく、正義は人を救い出して、死を免れさせる。
11 5 The righteousness of the blameless will direct his way aright, But the wicked will fall by his own wickedness. 誠実な者は、その正義によって、その道をまっすぐにせられ、悪しき者は、その悪によって倒れる。
11 6 The righteousness of the upright will deliver them, But the unfaithful will be caught by their lust. 正しい者はその正義によって救われ、不信実な者は自分の欲によって捕えられる。
11 7 When a wicked man dies, his expectation will perish, And the hope of the unjust perishes. 悪しき者は死ぬとき、その望みは絶え、不信心な者の望みもまた絶える。

11 10When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices; And when the wicked perish, there is jubilation. 正しい者が、しあわせになれば、その町は喜び、悪しき者が滅びると、喜びの声がおこる。
11 11 By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted, But it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked. 町は正しい者の祝福によって、高くあげられ、悪しき者の口によって、滅ぼされる。
11 12 He who is devoid of wisdom despises his neighbor, But a man of understanding holds his peace. 隣り人を侮る者は知恵がない、さとき人は口をつぐむ。
11 13 A talebearer reveals secrets, But he who is of a faithful spirit conceals a matter. 人のよしあしを言いあるく者は秘密をもらす、心の忠信なる者は事を隠す。
11 14 Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors there is safety. 指導者がなければ民は倒れ、助言者が多ければ安全である。
11 15 He who is surety for a stranger will suffer, But one who hates being surety is secure. 他人のために保証をする者は苦しみをうけ、保証をきらう者は安全である。
11 16 A gracious woman retains honor, But ruthless men retain riches. しとやかな女は、誉を得、強暴な男は富を得る。
11 17 The merciful man does good for his own soul, But he who is cruel troubles his own flesh. いつくしみある者はおのれ自身に益を得、残忍な者はおのれの身をそこなう。
11 18 The wicked man does deceptive work, But he who sows righteousness will have a sure reward. 悪しき者の得る報いはむなしく、正義を播く者は確かな報いを得る。
11 19 As righteousness leads to life, So he who pursues evil pursues it to his own death. 正義を堅く保つ者は命に至り、悪を追い求める者は死を招く。
11 20 Those who are of a perverse heart are an abomination to the Lord, But the blameless in their ways are His delight. 心のねじけた者は主に憎まれ、まっすぐに道を歩む者は彼に喜ばれる。
11 21 Though they join forces, the wicked will not go unpunished; But the posterity of the righteous will be delivered. 確かに、悪人は罰を免れない、しかし正しい人は救を得る。
11 22 As a ring of gold in a swine's snout, So is a lovely woman who lacks discretion. 美しい女の慎みがないのは、金の輪の、ぶたの鼻にあるようだ。
11 23 The desire of the righteous is only good, But the expectation of the wicked is wrath. 正しい者の願いは、すべて良い結果を得、悪しき者の望みは怒りに至る。
11 24 There is one who scatters, yet increases more; And there is one who withholds more than is right, But it leads to poverty. 施し散らして、なお富を増す人があり、与えるべきものを惜しんで、かえって貧しくなる者がある。
11 25 The generous soul will be made rich, And he who waters will also be watered himself. 物惜しみしない者は富み、人を潤す者は自分も潤される。
11 26 The people will curse him who withholds grain, But blessing will be on the head of him who sells it. 穀物を、しまい込んで売らない者は民にのろわれる、それを売る者のこうべには祝福がある。
11 27 He who earnestly seeks good finds favor, But trouble will come to him who seeks evil. 善を求める者は恵みを得る、悪を求める者には悪が来る。
11 28 He who trusts in his riches will fall, But the righteous will flourish like foliage. 自分の富を頼む者は衰える、正しい者は木の青葉のように栄える。
11 29 He who troubles his own house will inherit the wind, And the fool will be servant to the wise of heart. 自分の家族を苦しめる者は風を所有とする、愚かな者は心のさとき者のしもべとなる。
11 30 The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life, And he who wins souls is wise. 正しい者の結ぶ実は命の木である、不法な者は人の命をとる。
11 31 If the righteous will be recompensed on the earth, How much more the ungodly and the sinner. もし正しい者がこの世で罰せられるならば、悪しき者と罪びととは、なおさらである。
箴言 Proverbs 12 12
12 1 Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge, But he who hates correction is stupid. 戒めを愛する人は知識を愛する、懲らしめを憎む者は愚かである。
12 2 A good man obtains favor from the Lord, But a man of wicked intentions He will condemn. 善人は主の恵みをうけ、悪い計りごとを設ける人は主に罰せられる。
12 3 A man is not established by wickedness, But the root of the righteous cannot be moved. 人は悪をもって堅く立つことはできない、正しい人の根は動くことはない。
12 4 An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, But she who causes shame is like rottenness in his bones. 賢い妻はその夫の冠である、恥をこうむらせる妻は／夫の骨に生じた腐れのようなものである。
12 5 The thoughts of the righteous are right, But the counsels of the wicked are deceitful. 正しい人の考えは公正である、悪しき者の計ることは偽りである。
12 6 The words of the wicked are, "Lie in wait for blood," But the mouth of the upright will deliver them. 悪しき者の言葉は、人の血を流そうとうかがう、正しい人の口は人を救う。
12 7 The wicked are overthrown and are no more, But the house of the righteous will stand. 悪しき者は倒されて、うせ去る、正しい人の家は堅く立つ。
12 8 A man will be commended according to his wisdom, But he who is of a perverse heart will be despised. 人はその悟りにしたがって、ほめられ、心のねじけた者は、卑しめられる。
12 9 Better is the one who is slighted but has a servant, Than he who honors himself but lacks bread. 身分の低い人でも自分で働く者は、みずから高ぶって食に乏しい者にまさる。
12 10 A righteous man regards the life of his animal, But the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel. 正しい人はその家畜の命を顧みる、悪しき者は残忍をもって、あわれみとする。
12 11 He who tills his land will be satisfied with bread, But he who follows frivolity is devoid of understanding. 自分の田地を耕す者は食糧に飽きる、無益な事に従う者は知恵がない。
12 12 The wicked covet the catch of evil men, But the root of the righteous yields fruit. 悪しき者の堅固なやぐらは崩壊する、正しい人の根は堅く立つ。
12 13 The wicked is ensnared by the transgression of his lips, But the righteous will come through trouble. 悪人はくちびるのとがによって、わなに陥る、しかし正しい人は悩みをのがれる。
12 14 A man will be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth, And the recompense of a man's hands will be rendered to him. 人はその口の実によって、幸福に満ち足り、人の手のわざは、その人の身に帰る。
12 15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, But he who heeds counsel is wise. 愚かな人の道は、自分の目に正しく見える、しかし知恵ある者は勧めをいれる。
12 16 A fool's wrath is known at once, But a prudent man covers shame. 愚かな人は、すぐに怒りをあらわす、しかし賢い人は、はずかしめをも気にとめない。
12 17 He who speaks truth declares righteousness, But a false witness, deceit. 真実を語る人は正しい証言をなし、偽りの証人は偽りを言う。
12 18 There is one who speaks like the piercings of a sword, But the tongue of the wise promotes health. つるぎをもって刺すように、みだりに言葉を出す者がある、しかし知恵ある人の舌は人をいやす。
12 19 The truthful lip shall be established forever, But a lying tongue is but for a moment. 真実を言うくちびるは、いつまでも保つ、偽りを言う舌は、ただ、まばたきの間だけである。
12 20 Deceit is in the heart of those who devise evil, But counselors of peace have joy. 悪をたくらむ者の心には欺きがあり、善をはかる人には喜びがある。
12 21 No grave trouble will overtake the righteous, But the wicked shall be filled with evil. 正しい人にはなんの害悪も生じない、しかし悪しき者は災をもって満たされる。
12 22 Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, But those who deal truthfully are His delight. 偽りを言うくちびるは主に憎まれ、真実を行う者は彼に喜ばれる。
12 23 A prudent man conceals knowledge, But the heart of fools proclaims foolishness. さとき人は知識をかくす、しかし愚かな者は自分の愚かなことをあらわす。
12 24 The hand of the diligent will rule, But the lazy man will be put to forced labor. 勤め働く者の手はついに人を治める、怠る者は人に仕えるようになる。
12 25 Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, But a good word makes it glad. 心に憂いがあればその人をかがませる、しかし親切な言葉はその人を喜ばせる。
12 26The righteous should choose his friends carefully, For the way of the wicked leads them astray. 正しい人は悪を離れ去る、しかし悪しき者は自ら道に迷う。
12 27 The lazy man does not roast what he took in hunting, But diligence is man's precious possession. 怠る者は自分の獲物を捕えない、しかし勤め働く人は尊い宝を獲る。
12 28 In the way of righteousness is life, And in its pathway there is no death. 正義の道には命がある、しかし誤りの道は死に至る。
箴言 Proverbs 13 13
13 1 A wise son heeds his father's instruction, But a scoffer does not listen to rebuke. 知恵ある子は父の教訓をきく、あざける者は、懲らしめをきかない。
13 2 A man shall eat well by the fruit of his mouth, But the soul of the unfaithful feeds on violence. 善良な人はその口の実によって、幸福を得る、不信実な者の願いは、暴虐である。
13 3 He who guards his mouth preserves his life, But he who opens wide his lips shall have destruction. 口を守る者はその命を守る、くちびるを大きく開く者には滅びが来る。
13 4 The soul of a lazy man desires, and has nothing; But the soul of the diligent shall be made rich. なまけ者の心は、願い求めても、何も得ない、しかし勤め働く者の心は豊かに満たされる。
13 5 A righteous man hates lying, But a wicked man is loathsome and comes to shame. 正しい人は偽りを憎む、しかし悪しき人は恥ずべく、忌まわしくふるまう。
13 6Righteousness guards him whose way is blameless, But wickedness overthrows the sinner. 正義は道をまっすぐ歩む者を守り、罪は悪しき者を倒す。
13 7 There is one who makes himself rich, yet has nothing; And one who makes himself poor, yet has great riches. 富んでいると偽って、何も持たない者がいる、貧しいと偽って、多くの富を持つ者がいる。
13 8The ransom of a man's life is his riches, But the poor does not hear rebuke. 人の富はその命をあがなう、しかし貧しい者にはあがなうべき富がない。
13 9 The light of the righteous rejoices, But the lamp of the wicked will be put out. 正しい者の光は輝き、悪しき者のともしびは消される。
13 10 By pride comes nothing but strife, But with the well-advised is wisdom. 高ぶりはただ争いを生じる、勧告をきく者は知恵がある。
13 11 Wealth gained by dishonesty will be diminished, But he who gathers by labor will increase. 急いで得た富は減る、少しずつたくわえる者はそれを増すことができる。
13 12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick, But when the desire comes, it is a tree of life. 望みを得ることが長びくときは、心を悩ます、願いがかなうときは、命の木を得たようだ。
13 13 He who despises the word will be destroyed, But he who fears the commandment will be rewarded. み言葉を軽んじる者は滅ぼされ、戒めを重んじる者は報いを得る。
13 14 The law of the wise is a fountain of life, To turn one away from the snares of death. 知恵ある人の教は命の泉である、これによって死のわなをのがれることができる。
13 15 Good understanding gains favor, But the way of the unfaithful is hard. 善良な賢い者は恵みを得る、しかし、不信実な者の道は滅びである。
13 16Every prudent man acts with knowledge, But a fool lays open his folly. おおよそ、さとき者は知識によって事をおこない、愚かな者は自分の愚を見せびらかす。
13 17 A wicked messenger falls into trouble, But a faithful ambassador brings health. 悪しき使者は人を災におとしいれる、しかし忠実な使者は人を救う。
13 18 Poverty and shame will come to him who disdains correction, But he who regards a rebuke will be honored. 貧乏と、はずかしめとは教訓を捨てる者に来る、しかし戒めを守る者は尊ばれる。
13 19 A desire accomplished is sweet to the soul, But it is an abomination to fools to depart from evil. 願いがかなえば、心は楽しい、愚かな者は悪を捨てることをきらう。
13 20 He who walks with wise men will be wise, But the companion of fools will be destroyed. 知恵ある者とともに歩む者は知恵を得る。愚かな者の友となる者は害をうける。
13 21 Evil pursues sinners, But to the righteous, good shall be repaid. 災は罪びとを追い、正しい者は良い報いを受ける。
13 22 A good man leaves an inheritance to his children's children, But the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous. 善良な人はその嗣業を子孫にのこす、しかし罪びとの富は／正しい人のためにたくわえられる。
13 23 Much food is in the fallow ground of the poor, And for lack of justice there is waste. 貧しい人の新田は多くの食糧を産する、しかし不正によれば押し流される。
13 24 He who spares his rod hates his son, But he who loves him disciplines him promptly. むちを加えない者はその子を憎むのである、子を愛する者は、つとめてこれを懲らしめる。
13 25The righteous eats to the satisfying of his soul, But the stomach of the wicked shall be in want. 正しい者は食べてその食欲を満たす、しかし悪しき者の腹は満たされない。
箴言 Proverbs 14 14
14 1 The wise woman builds her house, But the foolish pulls it down with her hands. 知恵はその家を建て、愚かさは自分の手でそれをこわす。
14 2 He who walks in his uprightness fears the Lord, But he who is perverse in his ways despises Him. まっすぐに歩む者は主を恐れる、曲って歩む者は主を侮る。
14 3 In the mouth of a fool is a rod of pride, But the lips of the wise will preserve them. 愚かな者の言葉は自分の背にむちを当てる、知恵ある者のくちびるはその身を守る。
14 4 Where no oxen are, the trough is clean; But much increase comes by the strength of an ox. 牛がなければ穀物はない、牛の力によって農作物は多くなる。
14 5 A faithful witness does not lie, But a false witness will utter lies. 真実な証人はうそをいわない、偽りの証人はうそをつく。
14 6 A scoffer seeks wisdom and does not find it, But knowledge is easy to him who understands. あざける者は知恵を求めても得られない、さとき者は知識を得ることがたやすい。
14 7 Go from the presence of a foolish man, When you do not perceive in him the lips of knowledge. 愚かな者の前を離れ去れ、そこには知識の言葉がないからである。
14 8 The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way, But the folly of fools is deceit. さとき者の知恵は自分の道をわきまえることにあり、愚かな者の愚かは、欺くことにある。
14 9 Fools mock at sin, But among the upright there is favor. 神は悪しき者をあざけられる、正しい者は、その恵みを受ける。
14 10 The heart knows its own bitterness, And a stranger does not share its joy. 心の苦しみは心みずからが知る、その喜びには他人はあずからない。
14 11 The house of the wicked will be overthrown, But the tent of the upright will flourish. 悪しき者の家は滅ぼされ、正しい者の幕屋は栄える。
14 12 There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death. 人が見て自ら正しいとする道でも、その終りはついに死に至る道となるものがある。
14 13 Even in laughter the heart may sorrow, And the end of mirth may be grief. 笑う時にも心に悲しみがあり、喜びのはてに憂いがある。
14 14 The backslider in heart will be filled with his own ways, But a good man will be satisfied from above. 心のもとれる者はそのしわざの実を刈り取り、善良な人もまたその行いの実を刈り取る。
14 15 The simple believes every word, But the prudent considers well his steps. 思慮のない者はすべてのことを信じる、さとき者は自分の歩みを慎む。
14 16 A wise man fears and departs from evil, But a fool rages and is self-confident. 知恵ある者は用心ぶかく、悪を離れる、愚かな者は高ぶって用心しない。
14 17 A quick-tempered man acts foolishly, And a man of wicked intentions is hated. 怒りやすい者は愚かなことを行い、賢い者は忍耐強い。
14 18 The simple inherit folly, But the prudent are crowned with knowledge. 思慮のない者は愚かなことを自分のものとする、さとき者は知識をもって冠とする。
14 19 The evil will bow before the good, And the wicked at the gates of the righteous. 悪人は善人の前にひれ伏し、悪しき者は正しい者の門にひれ伏す。
14 20 The poor man is hated even by his own neighbor, But the rich has many friends. 貧しい者はその隣にさえも憎まれる、しかし富める者は多くの友をもつ。
14 21 He who despises his neighbor sins; But he who has mercy on the poor, happy is he. 隣り人を卑しめる者は罪びとである、貧しい人をあわれむ者はさいわいである。
14 22 Do they not go astray who devise evil? But mercy and truth belong to those who devise good. 悪を計る者はおのれを誤るではないか、善を計る者にはいつくしみと、まこととがある。
14 23 In all labor there is profit, But idle chatter leads only to poverty. すべての勤労には利益がある、しかし口先だけの言葉は貧乏をきたらせるだけだ。
14 24 The crown of the wise is their riches, But the foolishness of fools is folly. 知恵ある者の冠はその知恵である、愚かな者の花の冠はただ愚かさである。
14 25 A true witness delivers souls, But a deceitful witness speaks lies. まことの証人は人の命を救う、偽りを吐く者は裏切者である。
14 26 In the fear of the Lord there is strong confidence, And His children will have a place of refuge. 主を恐れることによって人は安心を得、その子らはのがれ場を得る。
14 27 The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, To turn one away from the snares of death. 主を恐れることは命の泉である、人を死のわなからのがれさせる。
14 28 In a multitude of people is a king's honor, But in the lack of people is the downfall of a prince. 王の栄えは民の多いことにあり、君の滅びは民を失うことにある。
14 29He who is slow to wrath has great understanding, But he who is impulsive exalts folly. 怒りをおそくする者は大いなる悟りがあり、気の短い者は愚かさをあらわす。
14 30 A sound heart is life to the body, But envy is rottenness to the bones. 穏やかな心は身の命である、しかし興奮は骨を腐らせる。
14 31 He who oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker, But he who honors Him has mercy on the needy. 貧しい者をしえたげる者はその造り主を侮る、乏しい者をあわれむ者は、主をうやまう。
14 32 The wicked is banished in his wickedness, But the righteous has a refuge in his death. 悪しき者はその悪しき行いによって滅ぼされ、正しい者はその正しきによって、のがれ場を得る。
14 33 Wisdom rests in the heart of him who has understanding, But what is in the heart of fools is made known. 知恵はさとき者の心にとどまり、愚かな者の心に知られない。
14 34Righteousness exalts a nation, But sin is a reproach to any people. 正義は国を高くし、罪は民をはずかしめる。
14 35 The king's favor is toward a wise servant, But his wrath is against him who causes shame. 賢いしもべは王の恵みをうけ、恥をきたらす者はその怒りにあう。

15 1 A soft answer turns away wrath, But a harsh word stirs up anger. 柔らかい答は憤りをとどめ、激しい言葉は怒りをひきおこす。
15 2 The tongue of the wise uses knowledge rightly, But the mouth of fools pours forth foolishness. 知恵ある者の舌は知識をわかち与え、愚かな者の口は愚かを吐き出す。
15 3 The eyes of the Lord are in every place, Keeping watch on the evil and the good. 主の目はどこにでもあって、悪人と善人とを見張っている。
15 4 A wholesome tongue is a tree of life, But perverseness in it breaks the spirit. 優しい舌は命の木である、乱暴な言葉は魂を傷つける。
15 5 A fool despises his father's instruction, But he who receives correction is prudent. 愚かな者は父の教訓を軽んじる、戒めを守る者は賢い者である。
15 6 In the house of the righteous there is much treasure, But in the revenue of the wicked is trouble. 正しい者の家には多くの宝がある、悪しき者の所得には煩いがある。
15 7 The lips of the wise disperse knowledge, But the heart of the fool does not do so. 知恵ある者のくちびるは知識をひろめる、愚かな者の心はそうでない。
15 8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, But the prayer of the upright is His delight. 悪しき者の供え物は主に憎まれ、正しい者の祈は彼に喜ばれる。
15 9 The way of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, But He loves him who follows righteousness. 悪しき者の道は主に憎まれ、正義を求める者は彼に愛せられる。
15 10 Harsh discipline is for him who forsakes the way, And he who hates correction will die. 道を捨てる者には、きびしい懲らしめがあり、戒めを憎む者は死に至る。
15 11 Hell and Destruction are before the Lord; So how much more the hearts of the sons of men. 陰府と滅びとは主の目の前にあり、人の心はなおさらである。
15 12 A scoffer does not love one who corrects him, Nor will he go to the wise. あざける者は戒められることを好まない、また知恵ある者に近づかない。
15 13 A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance, But by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken. 心に楽しみがあれば顔色も喜ばしい、心に憂いがあれば気はふさぐ。
15 14 The heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge, But the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness. さとき者の心は知識をたずね、愚かな者の口は愚かさを食物とする。
15 15 All the days of the afflicted are evil, But he who is of a merry heart has a continual feast. 悩んでいる者の日々はことごとくつらく、心の楽しい人は常に宴会をもつ。
15 16 Better is a little with the fear of the Lord, Than great treasure with trouble. 少しの物を所有して主を恐れるのは、多くの宝をもって苦労するのにまさる。
15 17 Better is a dinner of herbs where love is, Than a fatted calf with hatred. 野菜を食べて互に愛するのは、肥えた牛を食べて互に憎むのにまさる。
15 18 A wrathful man stirs up strife, But he who is slow to anger allays contention. 憤りやすい者は争いをおこし、怒りをおそくする者は争いをとどめる。
15 19 The way of the lazy man is like a hedge of thorns, But the way of the upright is a highway. なまけ者の道には、いばらがはえしげり、正しい者の道は平らかである。
15 20 A wise son makes a father glad, But a foolish man despises his mother. 知恵ある子は父を喜ばせる、愚かな人はその母を軽んじる。
15 21 Folly is joy to him who is destitute of discernment, But a man of understanding walks uprightly. 無知な者は愚かなことを喜び、さとき者はまっすぐに歩む。
15 22 Without counsel, plans go awry, But in the multitude of counselors they are established. 相はかることがなければ、計画は破れる、はかる者が多ければ、それは必ず成る。
15 23 A man has joy by the answer of his mouth, And a word spoken in due season, how good it is! 人は口から出る好ましい答によって喜びを得る、時にかなった言葉は、いかにも良いものだ。
15 24 The way of life winds upward for the wise, That he may turn away from hell below. 知恵ある人の道は上って命に至る、こうしてその人は下にある陰府を離れる。
15 25 The Lord will destroy the house of the proud, But He will establish the boundary of the widow. 主は高ぶる者の家を滅ぼし、やもめの地境を定められる。
15 26 The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the Lord, But the words of the pure are pleasant. 悪人の計りごとは主に憎まれ、潔白な人の言葉は彼に喜ばれる。
15 27 He who is greedy for gain troubles his own house, But he who hates bribes will live. 不正な利をむさぼる者はその家を煩わせる、まいないを憎む者は生きながらえる。
15 28 The heart of the righteous studies how to answer, But the mouth of the wicked pours forth evil. 正しい者の心は答えるべきことを考える、悪しき者の口は悪を吐き出す。
15 29 The Lord is far from the wicked, But He hears the prayer of the righteous. 主は悪しき者に遠ざかり、正しい者の祈を聞かれる。
15 30 The light of the eyes rejoices the heart, And a good report makes the bones healthy. 目の光は心を喜ばせ、よい知らせは骨を潤す。
15 31 The ear that hears the rebukes of life Will abide among the wise. ためになる戒めを聞く耳をもつ者は、知恵ある者の中にとどまる。
15 32 He who disdains instruction despises his own soul, But he who heeds rebuke gets understanding. 教訓を捨てる者はおのれの命を軽んじ、戒めを重んじる者は悟りを得る。
15 33 The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom, And before honor is humility. 主を恐れることは知恵の教訓である、謙遜は、栄誉に先だつ。
箴言 Proverbs 16 16
16 1 The preparations of the heart belong to man, But the answer of the tongue is from the Lord. 心にはかることは人に属し、舌の答は主から出る。
16 2 All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, But the Lord weighs the spirits. 人の道は自分の目にことごとく潔しと見える、しかし主は人の魂をはかられる。
16 3 Commit your works to the Lord, And your thoughts will be established. あなたのなすべき事を主にゆだねよ、そうすれば、あなたの計るところは必ず成る。
16 4 The Lord has made all for Himself, Yes, even the wicked for the day of doom. 主はすべての物をおのおのその用のために造り、悪しき人をも災の日のために造られた。
16 5 Everyone proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord; Though they join forces, none will go unpunished. すべて心に高ぶる者は主に憎まれる、確かに、彼は罰を免れない。
16 6 In mercy and truth Atonement is provided for iniquity; And by the fear of the Lord one departs from evil. いつくしみとまことによって、とがはあがなわれる、主を恐れることによって、人は悪を免れる。
16 7 When a man's ways please the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him. 人の道が主を喜ばせる時、主はその人の敵をもその人と和らがせられる。
16 8 Better is a little with righteousness, Than vast revenues without justice. 正義によって得たわずかなものは、不義によって得た多くの宝にまさる。
16 9 A man's heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps. 人は心に自分の道を考え計る、しかし、その歩みを導く者は主である。
16 10 Divination is on the lips of the king; His mouth must not transgress in judgment. 王のくちびるには神の決定がある、さばきをするとき、その口に誤りがない。
16 11 Honest weights and scales are the Lord's; All the weights in the bag are His work. 正しいはかりと天びんとは主のものである、袋にあるふんどうもすべて彼の造られたものである。
16 12 It is an abomination for kings to commit wickedness, For a throne is established by righteousness. 悪を行うことは王の憎むところである、その位が正義によって堅く立っているからである。
16 13 Righteous lips are the delight of kings, And they love him who speaks what is right. 正しいくちびるは王に喜ばれる、彼は正しい事を言う者を愛する。
16 14 As messengers of death is the king's wrath, But a wise man will appease it. 王の怒りは死の使者である、知恵ある人はこれをなだめる。
16 15 In the light of the king's face is life, And his favor is like a cloud of the latter rain. 王の顔の光には命がある、彼の恵みは春雨をもたらす雲のようだ。
16 16How much better to get wisdom than gold! And to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver. 知恵を得るのは金を得るのにまさる、悟りを得るのは銀を得るよりも望ましい。
16 17 The highway of the upright is to depart from evil; He who keeps his way preserves his soul. 悪を離れることは正しい人の道である、自分の道を守る者はその魂を守る。
16 18 Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall. 高ぶりは滅びにさきだち、誇る心は倒れにさきだつ。
16 19 Better to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, Than to divide the spoil with the proud. へりくだって貧しい人々と共におるのは、高ぶる者と共にいて、獲物を分けるにまさる。
16 20 He who heeds the word wisely will find good, And whoever trusts in the Lord, happy is he. 慎んで、み言葉をおこなう者は栄える、主に寄り頼む者はさいわいである。
16 21 The wise in heart will be called prudent, And sweetness of the lips increases learning. 心に知恵ある者はさとき者ととなえられる、くちびるが甘ければ、その教に人を説きつける力を増す。
16 22Understanding is a wellspring of life to him who has it. But the correction of fools is folly. 知恵はこれを持つ者に命の泉となる、しかし、愚かさは愚かな者の受ける懲らしめである。
16 23 The heart of the wise teaches his mouth, And adds learning to his lips. 知恵ある者の心はその言うところを賢くし、またそのくちびるに人を説きつける力を増す。
16 24 Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, Sweetness to the soul and health to the bones. ここちよい言葉は蜂蜜のように、魂に甘く、からだを健やかにする。
16 25 There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death. 人が見て自分で正しいとする道があり、その終りはついに死にいたる道となるものがある。
16 26 The person who labors, labors for himself, For his hungry mouth drives him on. ほねおる者は飲食のためにほねおる、その口が自分に迫るからである。
16 27An ungodly man digs up evil, And it is on his lips like a burning fire. よこしまな人は悪を企てる、そのくちびるには激しい火のようなものがある。
16 28A perverse man sows strife, And a whisperer separates the best of friends. 偽る者は争いを起し、つげ口する者は親しい友を離れさせる。
16 29 A violent man entices his neighbor, And leads him in a way that is not good. しえたげる者はその隣り人をいざない、これを良くない道に導く。
16 30 He winks his eye to devise perverse things; He purses his lips and brings about evil. めくばせする者は悪を計り、くちびるを縮める者は悪事をなし遂げる。
16 31 The silver-haired head is a crown of glory, If it is found in the way of righteousness. しらがは栄えの冠である、正しく生きることによってそれが得られる。
16 32 He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, And he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city. 怒りをおそくする者は勇士にまさり、自分の心を治める者は城を攻め取る者にまさる。
16 33 The lot is cast into the lap, But its every decision is from the Lord. 人はくじをひく、しかし事を定めるのは全く主のことである。
箴言 Proverbs 17 17
17 1 Better is a dry morsel with quietness, Than a house full of feasting with strife. 平穏であって、ひとかたまりのかわいたパンのあるのは、争いがあって、食物の豊かな家にまさる。
17 2 A wise servant will rule over a son who causes shame, And will share an inheritance among the brothers. 賢いしもべは身持の悪いむすこを治め、かつ、その兄弟たちの中にあって、資産の分け前を獲る。
17 3 The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold, But the Lord tests the hearts. 銀を試みるものはるつぼ、金を試みるものは炉、人の心を試みるものは主である。
17 4An evildoer gives heed to false lips; A liar listens eagerly to a spiteful tongue. 悪を行う者は偽りのくちびるに聞き、偽りをいう者は悪しき舌に耳を傾ける。
17 5 He who mocks the poor reproaches his Maker; He who is glad at calamity will not go unpunished. 貧しい者をあざける者はその造り主を侮る、人の災を喜ぶ者は罰を免れない。
17 6 Children's children are the crown of old men, And the glory of children is their father. 孫は老人の冠である、父は子の栄えである。
17 7 Excellent speech is not becoming to a fool, Much less lying lips to a prince. すぐれた言葉は愚かな者には似合わない、まして偽りを言うくちびるは／君たる者には似合わない。
17 8 A present is a precious stone in the eyes of its possessor; Wherever he turns, he prospers. まいないはこれを贈る人の目には幸運の玉のようだ、その向かう所、どこでも彼は栄える。
17 9 He who covers a transgression seeks love, But he who repeats a matter separates friends. 愛を追い求める人は人のあやまちをゆるす、人のことを言いふらす者は友を離れさせる。
17 10 Rebuke is more effective for a wise man Than a hundred blows on a fool. 一度の戒めがさとき人に徹するのは、百度の懲らしめが愚かな人に徹するよりも深い。
17 11 An evil man seeks only rebellion; Therefore a cruel messenger will be sent against him. 悪しき者はただ、そむく事のみを求める、それゆえ、彼に向かっては残忍な使者がつかわされる。
17 12 Let a man meet a bear robbed of her cubs, Rather than a fool in his folly. 愚かな者が愚かな事をするのに会うよりは、子をとられた雌ぐまに会うほうがよい。
17 13 Whoever rewards evil for good, Evil will not depart from his house. 悪をもて善に報いる者は、悪がその家を離れることがない。
17 14 The beginning of strife is like releasing water; Therefore stop contention before a quarrel starts. 争いの初めは水がもれるのに似ている、それゆえ、けんかの起らないうちにそれをやめよ。
17 15 He who justifies the wicked, and he who condemns the just, Both of them alike are an abomination to the Lord. 悪しき者を正しいとする者、正しい者を悪いとする者、この二つの者はともに主に憎まれる。
17 16 Why is there in the hand of a fool the purchase price of wisdom, Since he has no heart for it? 愚かな者はすでに心がないのに、どうして知恵を買おうとして／手にその代金を持っているのか。
17 17 A friend loves at all times, And a brother is born for adversity. 友はいずれの時にも愛する、兄弟はなやみの時のために生れる。
17 18 A man devoid of understanding shakes hands in a pledge, And becomes surety for his friend. 知恵のない人は手をうって、その隣り人の前で保証をする。
17 19 He who loves transgression loves strife, And he who exalts his gate seeks destruction. 争いを好む者は罪を好む、その門を高くする者は滅びを求める。
17 20 He who has a deceitful heart finds no good, And he who has a perverse tongue falls into evil. 曲った心の者はさいわいを得ない、みだりに舌をもって語る者は災に陥る。
17 21He who begets a scoffer does so to his sorrow, And the father of a fool has no joy. 愚かな子を生む者は嘆きを得る、愚か者の父は喜びを得ない。
17 22 A merry heart does good, like medicine, But a broken spirit dries the bones. 心の楽しみは良い薬である、たましいの憂いは骨を枯らす。
17 23 A wicked man accepts a bribe behind the back To pervert the ways of justice. 悪しき者は人のふところからまいないを受けて、さばきの道をまげる。
17 24 Wisdom is in the sight of him who has understanding, But the eyes of a fool are on the ends of the earth. さとき者はその顔を知恵にむける、しかし、愚かな者は目を地の果にそそぐ。
17 25 A foolish son is a grief to his father, And bitterness to her who bore him. 愚かな子はその父の憂いである、またこれを産んだ母の痛みである。
17 26 Also, to punish the righteous is not good, Nor to strike princes for their uprightness. 正しい人を罰するのはよくない、尊い人を打つのは悪い。
17 27 He who has knowledge spares his words, And a man of understanding is of a calm spirit. 言葉を少なくする者は知識のある者、心の冷静な人はさとき人である。
17 28 Even a fool is counted wise when he holds his peace; When he shuts his lips, he is considered perceptive. 愚かな者も黙っているときは、知恵ある者と思われ、そのくちびるを閉じている時は、さとき者と思われる。
箴言 Proverbs 18 18
18 1 A man who isolates himself seeks his own desire; He rages against all wise judgment. 人と交わりをしない者は口実を捜し、すべてのよい考えに激しく反対する。
18 2 A fool has no delight in understanding, But in expressing his own heart. 愚かな者は悟ることを喜ばず、ただ自分の意見を言い表わすことを喜ぶ。
18 3 When the wicked comes, contempt comes also; And with dishonor comes reproach. 悪しき者が来ると、卑しめもまた来る、不名誉が来ると、はずかしめも共にくる。
18 4 The words of a man's mouth are deep waters; The wellspring of wisdom is a flowing brook. 人の口の言葉は深い水のようだ、知恵の泉は、わいて流れる川である。
18 5 It is not good to show partiality to the wicked, Or to overthrow the righteous in judgment. 悪しき者をえこひいきすることは良くない、正しい者をさばいて、悪しき者とすることも良くない。
18 6 A fool's lips enter into contention, And his mouth calls for blows. 愚かな者のくちびるは争いを起し、その口はむち打たれることを招く。
18 7 A fool's mouth is his destruction, And his lips are the snare of his soul. 愚かな者の口は自分の滅びとなり、そのくちびるは自分を捕えるわなとなる。
18 8 The words of a talebearer are like tasty trifles, And they go down into the inmost body. 人のよしあしをいう者の言葉は／おいしい食物のようで、腹の奥にしみこむ。
18 9 He who is slothful in his work Is a brother to him who is a great destroyer. その仕事を怠る者は、滅ぼす者の兄弟である。
18 10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe. 主の名は堅固なやぐらのようだ、正しい者はその中に走りこんで救を得る。
18 11The rich man's wealth is his strong city, And like a high wall in his own esteem. 富める者の富はその堅き城である、それは高き城壁のように彼を守る。
18 12 Before destruction the heart of a man is haughty, And before honor is humility. 人の心の高ぶりは滅びにさきだち、謙遜は栄誉にさきだつ。
18 13 He who answers a matter before he hears it, It is folly and shame to him. 事をよく聞かないで答える者は、愚かであって恥をこうむる。
18 14 The spirit of a man will sustain him in sickness, But who can bear a broken spirit? 人の心は病苦をも忍ぶ、しかし心の痛むときは、だれがそれに耐えようか。
18 15 The heart of the prudent acquires knowledge, And the ear of the wise seeks knowledge. さとき者の心は知識を得、知恵ある者の耳は知識を求める。
18 16 A man's gift makes room for him, And brings him before great men. 人の贈り物は、その人のために道をひらき、また尊い人の前に彼を導く。
18 17 The first one to plead his cause seems right, Until his neighbor comes and examines him. 先に訴え出る者は正しいように見える、しかしその訴えられた人が来て、それを調べて、事は明らかになる。
18 18 Casting lots causes contentions to cease, And keeps the mighty apart. くじは争いをとどめ、かつ強い争い相手の間を決定する。
18 19 A brother offended is harder to win than a strong city, And contentions are like the bars of a castle. 助けあう兄弟は堅固な城のようだ、しかし争いは、やぐらの貫の木のようだ。
18 20 A man's stomach shall be satisfied from the fruit of his mouth, From the produce of his lips he shall be filled. 人は自分の言葉の結ぶ実によって、満ち足り、そのくちびるの産物によって自ら飽きる。
18 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit. 死と生とは舌に支配される、これを愛する者はその実を食べる。
18 22 He who finds a wife finds a good thing, And obtains favor from the Lord. 妻を得る者は、良き物を得る、かつ主から恵みを与えられる。
18 23 The poor man uses entreaties, But the rich answers roughly. 貧しい者は、あわれみを請い、富める者は、はげしい答をする。
18 24 A man who has friends must himself be friendly, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother. 世には友らしい見せかけの友がある、しかし兄弟よりもたのもしい友もある。
箴言 Proverbs 19 19
19 1 Better is the poor who walks in his integrity Than one who is perverse in his lips, and is a fool. 正しく歩む貧しい者は、曲ったことを言う愚かな者にまさる。
19 2 Also it is not good for a soul to be without knowledge, And he sins who hastens with his feet. 人が知識のないのは良くない、足で急ぐ者は道に迷う。
19 3 The foolishness of a man twists his way, And his heart frets against the Lord. 人は自分の愚かさによって道につまずき、かえって心のうちに主をうらむ。
19 4 Wealth makes many friends, But the poor is separated from his friend. 富は多くの新しい友を作る、しかし貧しい人はその友に捨てられる。
19 5 A false witness will not go unpunished, And he who speaks lies will not escape. 偽りの証人は罰を免れない、偽りをいう者はのがれることができない。
19 6 Many entreat the favor of the nobility, And every man is a friend to one who gives gifts. 気前のよい人にこびる者は多い、人はみな贈り物をする人の友となる。
19 7 All the brothers of the poor hate him; How much more do his friends go far from him! He may pursue them with words, yet they abandon him. 貧しい者はその兄弟すらもみなこれを憎む、ましてその友はこれに遠ざからないであろうか。言葉をかけてこれを呼んでも、去って帰らないのである。
19 8 He who gets wisdom loves his own soul; He who keeps understanding will find good. 知恵を得る者は自分の魂を愛し、悟りを保つ者は幸を得る。
19 9 A false witness will not go unpunished, And he who speaks lies shall perish. 偽りの証人は罰を免れない、偽りをいう者は滅びる。
19 10 Luxury is not fitting for a fool, Much less for a servant to rule over princes. 愚かな者が、ぜいたくな暮しをするのは、ふさわしいことではない、しもべたる者が、君たる者を治めるなどは、なおさらである。
19 11 The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger, And his glory is to overlook a transgression. 悟りは人に怒りを忍ばせる、あやまちをゆるすのは人の誉である。
19 12 The king's wrath is like the roaring of a lion, But his favor is like dew on the grass. 王の怒りは、ししのほえるようであり、その恵みは草の上におく露のようである。
19 13 A foolish son is the ruin of his father, And the contentions of a wife are a continual dripping. 愚かな子はその父の災である、妻の争うのは、雨漏りの絶えないのとひとしい。
19 14 Houses and riches are an inheritance from fathers, But a prudent wife is from the Lord. 家と富とは先祖からうけつぐもの、賢い妻は主から賜わるものである。
19 15 Laziness casts one into a deep sleep, And an idle person will suffer hunger. 怠りは人を熟睡させる、なまけ者は飢える。
19 16 He who keeps the commandment keeps his soul, But he who is careless of his ways will die. 戒めを守る者は自分の魂を守る、み言葉を軽んじる者は死ぬ。
19 17 He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, And He will pay back what he has given. 貧しい者をあわれむ者は主に貸すのだ、その施しは主が償われる。
19 18 Chasten your son while there is hope, And do not set your heart on his destruction. 望みのあるうちに、自分の子を懲らせ、これを滅ぼす心を起してはならない。
19 19 A man of great wrath will suffer punishment; For if you rescue him, you will have to do it again. 怒ることの激しい者は罰をうける、たとい彼を救ってやっても、さらにくり返さねばならない。
19 20 Listen to counsel and receive instruction, That you may be wise in your latter days. 勧めを聞き、教訓をうけよ、そうすれば、ついには知恵ある者となる。
19 21 There are many plans in a man's heart, Nevertheless the Lord's counsel--that will stand. 人の心には多くの計画がある、しかしただ主の、み旨だけが堅く立つ。
19 22What is desired in a man is kindness, And a poor man is better than a liar. 人に望ましいのは、いつくしみ深いことである、貧しい人は偽りをいう人にまさる。
19 23 The fear of the Lord leads to life, And he who has it will abide in satisfaction; He will not be visited with evil. 主を恐れることは人を命に至らせ、常に飽き足りて、災にあうことはない。
19 24 A lazy man buries his hand in the bowl, And will not so much as bring it to his mouth again. なまけ者は、手を皿に入れても、それを口に持ってゆくことをしない。
19 25 Strike a scoffer, and the simple will become wary; Rebuke one who has understanding, and he will discern knowledge. あざける者を打て、そうすれば思慮のない者も慎む。さとき者を戒めよ、そうすれば彼は知識を得る。
19 26 He who mistreats his father and chases away his mother Is a son who causes shame and brings reproach. 父に乱暴をはたらき、母を追い出す者は、恥をきたらし、はずかしめをまねく子である。
19 27 Cease listening to instruction, my son, And you will stray from the words of knowledge. わが子よ、知識の言葉をはなれて人を迷わせる／教訓を聞くことをやめよ。
19 28 A disreputable witness scorns justice, And the mouth of the wicked devours iniquity. 悪い証人はさばきをあざけり、悪しき者の口は悪をむさぼり食う。
19 29 Judgments are prepared for scoffers, And beatings for the backs of fools. さばきはあざける者のために備えられ、むちは愚かな者の背のために備えられる。
箴言 Proverbs 20 20
20 1 Wine is a mocker, Strong drink is a brawler, And whoever is led astray by it is not wise. 酒は人をあざける者とし、濃い酒は人をあばれ者とする、これに迷わされる者は無知である。
20 2 The wrath of a king is like the roaring of a lion; Whoever provokes him to anger sins against his own life. 王の怒りは、ししがほえるようだ、彼を怒らせる者は自分の命をそこなう。
20 3 It is honorable for a man to stop striving, Since any fool can start a quarrel. 争いに関係しないことは人の誉である、すべて愚かな者は怒り争う。
20 4 The lazy man will not plow because of winter; He will beg during harvest and have nothing. なまけ者は寒いときに耕さない、それゆえ刈入れのときになって、求めても何もない。
20 5 Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water, But a man of understanding will draw it out. 人の心にある計りごとは深い井戸の水のようだ、しかし、さとき人はこれをくみ出す。
20 6 Most men will proclaim each his own goodness, But who can find a faithful man? 自分は真実だという人が多い、しかし、だれが忠信な人に会うであろうか。
20 7The righteous man walks in his integrity; His children are blessed after him. 欠けた所なく、正しく歩む人――その後の子孫はさいわいである。
20 8 A king who sits on the throne of judgment Scatters all evil with his eyes. さばきの座にすわる王は／その目をもって、すべての悪をふるいわける。
20 9 Who can say, "I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin"? だれが「わたしは自分の心を清めた、わたしの罪は清められた」ということができようか。
20 10 Diverse weights and diverse measures, They are both alike, an abomination to the Lord. 互に違った二種のはかり、二種のますは、ひとしく主に憎まれる。
20 11 Even a child is known by his deeds, Whether what he does is pure and right. 幼な子でさえも、その行いによって自らを示し、そのすることの清いか正しいかを現す。
20 12 The hearing ear and the seeing eye, The Lord has made them both. 聞く耳と、見る目とは、ともに主が造られたものである。
20 13 Do not love sleep, lest you come to poverty; Open your eyes, and you will be satisfied with bread. 眠りを愛してはならない、そうすれば貧しくなる、目を開け、そうすればパンに飽くことができる。
20 14 "It is good for nothing," cries the buyer; But when he has gone his way, then he boasts. 買う者は、「悪い、悪い」という、しかし去って後、彼は自ら誇る。
20 15 There is gold and a multitude of rubies, But the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel. 金もあり、価の高い宝石も多くあるが、尊い器は知識のくちびるである。
20 16Take the garment of one who is surety for a stranger, And hold it as a pledge when it is for a seductress. 人のために保証する者からは、まずその着物を取れ、他人のために保証する者をば抵当に取れ。
20 17 Bread gained by deceit is sweet to a man, But afterward his mouth will be filled with gravel. 欺き取ったパンはおいしい、しかし後にはその口は砂利で満たされる。
20 18 Plans are established by counsel; By wise counsel wage war. 計りごとは共に議することによって成る、戦おうとするならば、まずよく議しなければならない。
20 19 He who goes about as a talebearer reveals secrets; Therefore do not associate with one who flatters with his lips. 歩きまわって人のよしあしをいう者は秘密をもらす、くちびるを開いて歩く者と交わってはならない。
20 20 Whoever curses his father or his mother, His lamp will be put out in deep darkness. 自分の父母をののしる者は、そのともしびは暗やみの中に消える。
20 21 An inheritance gained hastily at the beginning Will not be blessed at the end. 初めに急いで得た資産は、その終りがさいわいでない。
20 22 Do not say, "I will recompense evil"; Wait for the Lord, and He will save you. 「わたしが悪に報いる」と言ってはならない、主を待ち望め、主はあなたを助けられる。
20 23 Diverse weights are an abomination to the Lord, And dishonest scales are not good. 互に違った二種のふんどうは主に憎まれる、偽りのはかりは良くない。
20 24 A man's steps are of the Lord; How then can a man understand his own way? 人の歩みは主によって定められる、人はどうして自らその道を、明らかにすることができようか。
20 25 It is a snare for a man to devote rashly something as holy, And afterward to reconsider his vows. 軽々しく「これは聖なるささげ物だ」と言い、また誓いを立てて後に考えることは、その人のわなとなる。
20 26 A wise king sifts out the wicked, And brings the threshing wheel over them. 知恵ある王は、箕をもってあおぎ分けるように悪人を散らし、車をもって脱穀するように、これを罰する。
20 27 The spirit of a man is the lamp of the Lord, Searching all the inner depths of his heart. 人の魂は主のともしびであり、人の心の奥を探る。
20 28 Mercy and truth preserve the king, And by lovingkindness he upholds his throne. いつくしみと、まこととは王を守る、その位もまた正義によって保たれる。
20 29 The glory of young men is their strength, And the splendor of old men is their gray head. 若い人の栄えはその力、老人の美しさはそのしらがである。
20 30Blows that hurt cleanse away evil, As do stripes the inner depths of the heart. 傷つくまでに打てば悪い所は清くなり、むちで打てば心の底までも清まる。
箴言 Proverbs 21 21
21 1 The king's heart is in the hand of the Lord, Like the rivers of water; He turns it wherever He wishes. 王の心は、主の手のうちにあって、水の流れのようだ、主はみこころのままにこれを導かれる。
21 2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, But the Lord weighs the hearts. 人の道は自分の目には正しく見える、しかし主は人の心をはかられる。
21 3 To do righteousness and justice Is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice. 正義と公平を行うことは、犠牲にもまさって主に喜ばれる。
21 4 A haughty look, a proud heart, And the plowing of the wicked are sin. 高ぶる目とおごる心とは、悪しき人のともしびであって、罪である。
21 5 The plans of the diligent lead surely to plenty, But those of everyone who is hasty, surely to poverty. 勤勉な人の計画は、ついにその人を豊かにする、すべて怠るものは貧しくなる。
21 6 Getting treasures by a lying tongue Is the fleeting fantasy of those who seek death. 偽りの舌をもって宝を得るのは、吹きはらわれる煙、死のわなである。
21 7 The violence of the wicked will destroy them, Because they refuse to do justice. 悪しき者の暴虐はその身を滅ぼす、彼らは公平を行うことを好まないからである。
21 8 The way of a guilty man is perverse; But as for the pure, his work is right. 罪びとの道は曲っている、潔白な人の行いはまっすぐである。
21 9 Better to dwell in a corner of a housetop, Than in a house shared with a contentious woman. 争いを好む女と一緒に家におるよりは／屋根のすみにおるほうがよい。
21 10 The soul of the wicked desires evil; His neighbor finds no favor in his eyes. 悪しき者の魂は悪を行うことを願う、その隣り人にも好意をもって見られない。
21 11 When the scoffer is punished, the simple is made wise; But when the wise is instructed, he receives knowledge. あざけるものが罰をうけるならば、思慮のない者は知恵を得る。知恵ある者が教をうけるならば知識を得る。
21 12 The righteous God wisely considers the house of the wicked, Overthrowing the wicked for their wickedness. 正しい神は、悪しき者の家をみとめて、悪しき者を滅びに投げいれられる。
21 13 Whoever shuts his ears to the cry of the poor Will also cry himself and not be heard. 耳を閉じて貧しい者の呼ぶ声を聞かない者は、自分が呼ぶときに、聞かれない。
21 14 A gift in secret pacifies anger, And a bribe behind the back, strong wrath. ひそかな贈り物は憤りをなだめる、ふところのまいないは激しい怒りを和らげる。
21 15 It is a joy for the just to do justice, But destruction will come to the workers of iniquity. 公義を行うことは、正しい者には喜びであるが、悪を行う者には滅びである。
21 16 A man who wanders from the way of understanding Will rest in the assembly of the dead. 悟りの道を離れる人は、死人の集会の中におる。
21 17 He who loves pleasure will be a poor man; He who loves wine and oil will not be rich. 快楽を好む者は貧しい人となり、酒と油とを好む者は富むことがない。
21 18 The wicked shall be a ransom for the righteous, And the unfaithful for the upright. 悪しき者は正しい者のあがないとなり、不信実な者は正しい人に代る。
21 19 Better to dwell in the wilderness, Than with a contentious and angry woman. 争い怒る女と共におるよりは、荒野に住むほうがましだ。
21 20 There is desirable treasure, And oil in the dwelling of the wise, But a foolish man squanders it. 知恵ある者の家には尊い宝があり、愚かな人はこれを、のみ尽す。
21 21He who follows righteousness and mercy Finds life, righteousness and honor. 正義といつくしみとを追い求める者は、命と誉とを得る。
21 22 A wise man scales the city of the mighty, And brings down the trusted stronghold. 知恵ある者は強い者の城にのぼって、その頼みとするとりでをくずす。
21 23 Whoever guards his mouth and tongue Keeps his soul from troubles. 口と舌とを守る者は／その魂を守って、悩みにあわせない。
21 24 A proud and haughty man--"Scoffer" is his name; He acts with arrogant pride. 高ぶりおごる者を「あざける者」となづける、彼は高慢無礼な行いをするものである。
21 25 The desire of the lazy man kills him, For his hands refuse to labor. なまけ者の欲望は自分の身を殺す、これはその手を働かせないからである。

箴言 Proverbs 22 22
22 1 A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, Loving favor rather than silver and gold. 令名は大いなる富にまさり、恩恵は銀や金よりも良い。
22 2 The rich and the poor have this in common, The Lord is the maker of them all. 富める者と貧しい者とは共に世におる、すべてこれを造られたのは主である。
22 3 A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself, But the simple pass on and are punished. 賢い者は災を見て自ら避け、思慮のない者は進んでいって、罰をうける。
22 4 By humility and the fear of the Lord Are riches and honor and life. 謙遜と主を恐れることとの報いは、富と誉と命とである。
22 5 Thorns and snares are in the way of the perverse; He who guards his soul will be far from them. よこしまな者の道にはいばらとわながあり、たましいを守る者は遠くこれを離れる。
22 6 Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it. 子をその行くべき道に従って教えよ、そうすれば年老いても、それを離れることがない。
22 7 The rich rules over the poor, And the borrower is servant to the lender. 富める者は貧しき者を治め、借りる者は貸す人の奴隷となる。
22 8 He who sows iniquity will reap sorrow, And the rod of his anger will fail. 悪をまく者は災を刈り、その怒りのつえはすたれる。
22 9He who has a generous eye will be blessed, For he gives of his bread to the poor. 人を見て恵む者はめぐまれる、自分のパンを貧しい人に与えるからである。
22 10 Cast out the scoffer, and contention will leave; Yes, strife and reproach will cease. あざける者を追放すれば争いもまた去り、かつ、いさかいも、はずかしめもなくなる。
22 11 He who loves purity of heart And has grace on his lips, The king will be his friend. 心の潔白を愛する者、その言葉の上品な者は、王がその友となる。
22 12 The eyes of the Lord preserve knowledge, But He overthrows the words of the faithless. 主の目は知識ある者を守る、しかし主は不信実な者の言葉を敗られる。
22 13The lazy man says, "There is a lion outside! I shall be slain in the streets!" なまけ者は言う、「ししがそとにいる、わたしは、ちまたで殺される」と。

23 19 Hear, my son, and be wise; And guide your heart in the way わが子よ、よく聞いて、知恵を得よ、かつ、あなたの心を道に向けよ。
23 20 Do not mix with winebibbers, Or with gluttonous eaters of meat; 酒にふけり、肉をたしなむ者と交わってはならない。
23 21 For the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty, And drowsiness will clothe a man with rags 酒にふける者と、肉をたしなむ者とは貧しくなり、眠りをむさぼる者は、ぼろを身にまとうようになる。
23 22 Listen to your father who begot you, And do not despise your mother when she is old. あなたを生んだ父のいうことを聞き、年老いた母を軽んじてはならない。
23 23 Buy the truth, and do not sell it, Also wisdom and instruction and understanding. 真理を買え、これを売ってはならない、知恵と教訓と悟りをも買え。
23 24 The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice, And he who begets a wise child will delight in him. 正しい人の父は大いによろこび、知恵ある子を生む者は子のために楽しむ。

24 22 For their calamity will rise suddenly, And who knows the ruin those two can bring? その災はたちまち起るからである。この二つの者からくる滅びをだれが知り得ようか。
24 23 These things also belong to the wise: It is not good to show partiality in judgment. これらもまた知恵ある者の箴言である。片寄ったさばきをするのは、よくない。
24 24 He who says to the wicked, "You are righteous," Him the people will curse; Nations will abhor him. 悪しき者に向かって、「あなたは正しい」という者を、人々はのろい、諸民は憎む。
24 25 But those who rebuke the wicked will have delight, And a good blessing will come upon them. 悪しき者をせめる者は恵みを得る、また幸福が与えられる。
24 26 He who gives a right answer kisses the lips. 正しい答をする者は、くちびるに、口づけするのである。

箴言 Proverbs 25 25
25 1 These also are proverbs of Solomon which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied: これらもまたソロモンの箴言であり、ユダの王ヒゼキヤに属する人々がこれを書き写した。
25 2 It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, But the glory of kings is to search out a matter. 事を隠すのは神の誉であり、事を窮めるのは王の誉である。
25 3 As the heavens for height and the earth for depth, So the heart of kings is unsearchable. 天の高さと地の深さと、王たる者の心とは測ることができない。
25 4 Take away the dross from silver, And it will go to the silversmith for jewelry. 銀から、かなくそを除け、そうすれば、銀細工人が器を造る材料となる。
25 5 Take away the wicked from before the king, And his throne will be established in righteousness. 王の前から悪しき者を除け、そうすれば、その位は正義によって堅く立つ。
25 6 Do not exalt yourself in the presence of the king, And do not stand in the place of the great; 王の前で自ら高ぶってはならない、偉い人の場に立ってはならない。
25 7 For it is better that he say to you, "Come up here," Than that you should be put lower in the presence of the prince, Whom your eyes have seen. 尊い人の前で下にさげられるよりは、「ここに上がれ」といわれるほうがましだ。
25 8 Do not go hastily to court; For what will you do in the end, When your neighbor has put you to shame? あなたが目に見たことを、軽々しく法廷に出してはならない。あとになり、あなたが隣り人にはずかしめられるとき、あなたはどうしようとするのか。
25 9 Debate your case with your neighbor, And do not disclose the secret to another; 隣り人と争うことがあるならば、ただその人と争え、他人の秘密をもらしてはならない。

25 16 Have you found honey? Eat only as much as you need, Lest you be filled with it and vomit. 蜜を得たならば、ただ足るほどにこれを食べよ、おそらくは食べすごして、それを吐き出すであろう。
25 17 Seldom set foot in your neighbor's house, Lest he become weary of you and hate you. 隣り人の家に足をしげくしてはならない、おそらくは彼は煩わしくなって、あなたを憎むようになろう。

25 24 It is better to dwell in a corner of a housetop, Than in a house shared with a contentious woman. 争いを好む女と一緒に家におるよりは、屋根のすみにおるほうがよい。
25 25 As cold water to a weary soul, So is good news from a far country. 遠い国から来るよい消息は、かわいている人が飲む冷やかな水のようだ。
25 26 A righteous man who falters before the wicked Is like a murky spring and a polluted well. 正しい者が悪い者の前に屈服するのは、井戸が濁ったよう、また泉がよごれたようなものだ。
25 27 It is not good to eat much honey; So to seek one's own glory is not glory. 蜜を多く食べるのはよくない、ほめる言葉は控え目にするがよい。
25 28 Whoever has no rule over his own spirit Is like a city broken down, without walls. 自分の心を制しない人は、城壁のない破れた城のようだ。
箴言 Proverbs 26 26
26 1 As snow in summer and rain in harvest, So honor is not fitting for a fool. 誉が愚かな者にふさわしくないのは、夏に雪が降り、刈入れの時に雨が降るようなものだ。
26 2 Like a flitting sparrow, like a flying swallow, So a curse without cause shall not alight. いわれのないのろいは、飛びまわるすずめや、飛びかけるつばめのようなもので、止まらない。
26 3 A whip for the horse, A bridle for the donkey, And a rod for the fool's back. 馬のためにはむちがあり、ろばのためにはくつわがあり、愚かな者の背のためにはつえがある。
26 4 Do not answer a fool according to his folly, Lest you also be like him. 愚かな者にその愚かさにしたがって答をするな、自分も彼と同じようにならないためだ。
26 5 Answer a fool according to his folly, Lest he be wise in his own eyes. 愚かな者にその愚かさにしたがって答をせよ、彼が自分の目に自らを知恵ある者と見ないためだ。
26 6 He who sends a message by the hand of a fool Cuts off his own feet and drinks violence. 愚かな者に託して事を言い送る者は、自分の足を切り去り、身に害をうける。
26 7 Like the legs of the lame that hang limp Is a proverb in the mouth of fools. あしなえの足は用がない、愚かな者の口には箴言もそれにひとしい。
26 8Like one who binds a stone in a sling Is he who gives honor to a fool. 誉を愚かな者に与えるのは、石を石投げにつなぐようだ。
26 9 Like a thorn that goes into the hand of a drunkard Is a proverb in the mouth of fools. 愚かな者の口に箴言があるのは、酔った者が、とげのあるつえを手で振り上げるようだ。
26 10 The great God who formed everything Gives the fool his hire and the transgressor his wages. 通りがかりの愚か者や、酔った者を雇う者は、すべての人を傷つける射手のようだ。
26 11 As a dog returns to his own vomit, So a fool repeats his folly. 犬が帰って来てその吐いた物を食べるように、愚かな者はその愚かさをくり返す。
26 12 Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him. 自分の目に自らを知恵ある者とする人を、あなたは見るか、彼よりもかえって愚かな人に望みがある。
26 13The lazy man says, "There is a lion in the road! A fierce lion is in the streets!" なまけ者は、「道にししがいる、ちまたにししがいる」という。
26 14 As a door turns on its hinges, So does the lazy man on his bed. 戸がちょうつがいによって回るように、なまけ者はその寝床で寝返りをする。
26 15 The lazy man buries his hand in the bowl; It wearies him to bring it back to his mouth. なまけ者は手を皿に入れても、それを口に持ってゆくことをいとう。
26 16 The lazy man is wiser in his own eyes Than seven men who can answer sensibly. なまけ者は自分の目に、良く答えることのできる七人の者よりも、自らを知恵ありとする。
26 17 He who passes by and meddles in a quarrel not his own Is like one who takes a dog by the ears. 自分に関係のない争いにたずさわる者は、通りすぎる犬の耳をとらえる者のようだ。
26 18 Like a madman who throws firebrands, arrows, and death, 隣り人を欺いて、「わたしはただ戯れにした」という者は、燃え木または矢、または死を、投げつける気が変な人のようだ。
26 19 Is the man who deceives his neighbor, And says, "I was only joking!" 合節
26 20 Where there is no wood, the fire goes out; And where there is no talebearer, strife ceases. たきぎがなければ火は消え、人のよしあしを言う者がなければ争いはやむ。
26 21 As charcoal is to burning coals, and wood to fire, So is a contentious man to kindle strife. おき火に炭をつぎ、火にたきぎをくべるように、争いを好む人は争いの火をおこす。
26 22The words of a talebearer are like tasty trifles, And they go down into the inmost body. 人のよしあしをいう者の言葉は／おいしい食物のようで、腹の奥にしみこむ。
26 23 Fervent lips with a wicked heart Are like earthenware covered with silver dross. くちびるはなめらかであっても、心の悪いのは／上ぐすりをかけた土の器のようだ。
26 24 He who hates, disguises it with his lips, And lays up deceit within himself; 憎む者はくちびるをもって自ら飾るけれども、心のうちには偽りをいだく。
26 25 When he speaks kindly, do not believe him, For there are seven abominations in his heart; 彼が声をやわらげて語っても、信じてはならない。その心に七つの憎むべきものがあるからだ。
26 26 Though his hatred is covered by deceit, His wickedness will be revealed before the assembly. たとい偽りをもってその憎しみをかくしても、彼の悪は会衆の中に現れる。
26 27 Whoever digs a pit will fall into it, And he who rolls a stone will have it roll back on him. 穴を掘る者は自らその中に陥る、石をまろばしあげる者の上に、その石はまろびかえる。
26 28 A lying tongue hates those who are crushed by it, And a flattering mouth works ruin. 偽りの舌は自分が傷つけた者を憎み、へつらう口は滅びをきたらせる。
箴言 Proverbs 27 27
27 1 Do not boast about tomorrow, For you do not know what a day may bring forth. あすのことを誇ってはならない、一日のうちに何がおこるかを／知ることができないからだ。
27 2 Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth; A stranger, and not your own lips. 自分の口をもって自らをほめることなく、他人にほめさせよ。自分のくちびるをもってせず、ほかの人にあなたをほめさせよ。
27 3 A stone is heavy and sand is weighty, But a fool's wrath is heavier than both of them. 石は重く、砂も軽くはない、しかし愚かな者の怒りはこの二つよりも重い。
27 4 Wrath is cruel and anger a torrent, But who is able to stand before jealousy? 憤りはむごく、怒りははげしい、しかしねたみの前には、だれが立ちえよう。
27 5Open rebuke is better Than love carefully concealed. あからさまに戒めるのは、ひそかに愛するのにまさる。
27 6 Faithful are the wounds of a friend, But the kisses of an enemy are deceitful. 愛する者が傷つけるのは、まことからであり、あだの口づけするのは偽りからである。
27 7 A satisfied soul loathes the honeycomb, But to a hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet. 飽いている者は蜂蜜をも踏みつける、しかし飢えた者には苦い物でさえ、みな甘い。
27 8 Like a bird that wanders from its nest Is a man who wanders from his place. その家を離れてさまよう人は、巣を離れてさまよう鳥のようだ。
27 9 Ointment and perfume delight the heart, And the sweetness of a man's friend gives delight by hearty counsel. 油と香とは人の心を喜ばせる、しかし魂は悩みによって裂かれる。
27 10 Do not forsake your own friend or your father's friend, Nor go to your brother's house in the day of your calamity; Better is a neighbor nearby than a brother far away. あなたの友、あなたの父の友を捨てるな、あなたが悩みにあう日には兄弟の家に行くな、近い隣り人は遠くにいる兄弟にまさる。
27 11 My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, That I may answer him who reproaches me. わが子よ、知恵を得て、わたしの心を喜ばせよ、そうすればわたしをそしる者に答えることができる。
27 12 A prudent man foresees evil and hides himself; The simple pass on and are punished. 賢い者は災を見て自ら避け、思慮のない者は進んでいって、罰をうける。
27 13 Take the garment of him who is surety for a stranger, And hold it in pledge when he is surety for a seductress. 人のために保証する者からは、まずその着物をとれ、他人のために保証をする者をば抵当に取れ。
27 14 He who blesses his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, It will be counted a curse to him. 朝はやく起きて大声にその隣り人を祝すれば、かえってのろいと見なされよう。
27 15 A continual dripping on a very rainy day And a contentious woman are alike; 雨の降る日に雨漏りの絶えないのと、争い好きな女とは同じだ。
27 16 Whoever restrains her restrains the wind, And grasps oil with his right hand. この女を制するのは風を制するのとおなじく、右の手に油をつかむのとおなじだ。
27 17 As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend. 鉄は鉄をとぐ、そのように人はその友の顔をとぐ。
27 18Whoever keeps the fig tree will eat its fruit; So he who waits on his master will be honored. いちじくの木を守る者はその実を食べる、主人を尊ぶ者は誉を得る。
27 19 As in water face reflects face, So a man's heart reveals the man. 水にうつせば顔と顔とが応じるように、人の心はその人をうつす。
27 20 Hell and Destruction are never full; So the eyes of man are never satisfied. 陰府と滅びとは飽くことなく、人の目もまた飽くことがない。
27 21 The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold, And a man is valued by what others say of him. るつぼによって銀をためし、炉によって金をためす、人はその称賛によってためされる。
27 22 Though you grind a fool in a mortar with a pestle along with crushed grain, Yet his foolishness will not depart from him. 愚かな者をうすに入れ、きねをもって、麦と共にこれをついても、その愚かさは去ることがない。
27 23 Be diligent to know the state of your flocks, And attend to your herds; あなたの羊の状態をよく知り、あなたの群れに心をとめよ。
27 24For riches are not forever, Nor does a crown endure to all generations. 富はいつまでも続くものではない、どうして位が末代までも保つであろうか。
27 25 When the hay is removed, and the tender grass shows itself, And the herbs of the mountains are gathered in, 草が刈り取られ、新しい芽がのび、山の牧草も集められると、
27 26 The lambs will provide your clothing, And the goats the price of a field; 小羊はあなたの衣料を出し、やぎは畑を買う価となり、
27 27 You shall have enough goats' milk for your food, For the food of your household, And the nourishment of your maidservants. やぎの乳は多くて、あなたと、あなたの家のものの食物となり、おとめらを養うのにじゅうぶんである。
箴言 Proverbs 28 28
28 1 The wicked flee when no one pursues, But the righteous are bold as a lion. 悪しき者は追う人もないのに逃げる、正しい人はししのように勇ましい。
28 2 Because of the transgression of a land, many are its princes; But by a man of understanding and knowledge Right will be prolonged. 国の罪によって、治める者は多くなり、さとく、また知識ある人によって、国はながく保つ。
28 3 A poor man who oppresses the poor Is like a driving rain which leaves no food. 貧しい者をしえたげる貧しい人は、糧食を残さない激しい雨のようだ。
28 4 Those who forsake the law praise the wicked, But such as keep the law contend with them. 律法を捨てる者は悪しき者をほめる、律法を守る者はこれに敵対する。
28 5 Evil men do not understand justice, But those who seek the Lord understand all. 悪人は正しいことを悟らない、主を求める者はこれをことごとく悟る。
28 6Better is the poor who walks in his integrity Than one perverse in his ways, though he be rich. 正しく歩む貧しい者は、曲った道を歩む富める者にまさる。
28 7 Whoever keeps the law is a discerning son, But a companion of gluttons shames his father. 律法を守る者は賢い子である、不品行な者と交わるものは、父をはずかしめる。
28 8 One who increases his possessions by usury and extortion Gathers it for him who will pity the poor. 利息と高利とによってその富をます者は、貧しい者を恵む者のために、それをたくわえる。
28 9 One who turns away his ear from hearing the law, Even his prayer is an abomination. 耳をそむけて律法を聞かない者は、その祈でさえも憎まれる。
28 10 Whoever causes the upright to go astray in an evil way, He himself will fall into his own pit; But the blameless will inherit good. 正しい者を悪い道に惑わす者は、みずから自分の穴に陥る、しかし誠実な人は幸福を継ぐ。
28 11 The rich man is wise in his own eyes, But the poor who has understanding searches him out. 富める人は自分の目に自らを知恵ある者と見る、しかし悟りのある貧しい者は彼を見やぶる。
28 12 When the righteous rejoice, there is great glory; But when the wicked arise, men hide themselves. 正しい者が勝つときは、大いなる栄えがある、悪しき者が起るときは、民は身をかくす。
28 13 He who covers his sins will not prosper, But whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy. その罪を隠す者は栄えることがない、言い表わしてこれを離れる者は、あわれみをうける。
28 14 Happy is the man who is always reverent, But he who hardens his heart will fall into calamity. 常に主を恐れる人はさいわいである、心をかたくなにする者は災に陥る。
28 15 Like a roaring lion and a charging bear Is a wicked ruler over poor people. 貧しい民を治める悪いつかさは、ほえるしし、または飢えたくまのようだ。
28 16 A ruler who lacks understanding is a great oppressor, But he who hates covetousness will prolong his days. 悟りのないつかさは残忍な圧制者である、不正の利を憎む者は長命を得る。
28 17 A man burdened with bloodshed will flee into a pit; Let no one help him. 人を殺してその血を身に負う者は死ぬまで、のがれびとである、だれもこれを助けてはならない。
28 18 Whoever walks blamelessly will be saved, But he who is perverse in his ways will suddenly fall. 正しく歩む者は救を得、曲った道に歩む者は穴に陥る。
28 19 He who tills his land will have plenty of bread, But he who follows frivolity will have poverty enough! 自分の田地を耕す者は食糧に飽き、無益な事に従う者は貧乏に飽きる。
28 20 A faithful man will abound with blessings, But he who hastens to be rich will not go unpunished. 忠実な人は多くの祝福を得る、急いで富を得ようとする者は罰を免れない。
28 21 To show partiality is not good, Because for a piece of bread a man will transgress. 人を片寄り見ることは良くない、人は一切れのパンのために、とがを犯すことがある。
28 22 A man with an evil eye hastens after riches, And does not consider that poverty will come upon him. 欲の深い人は急いで富を得ようとする、かえって欠乏が自分の所に来ることを知らない。
28 23 He who rebukes a man will find more favor afterward Than he who flatters with the tongue. 人を戒める者は舌をもってへつらう者よりも、大いなる感謝をうける。
28 24 Whoever robs his father or his mother, And says, "It is no transgression," The same is companion to a destroyer. 父や母の物を盗んで「これは罪ではない」と言う者は、滅ぼす者の友である。
28 25 He who is of a proud heart stirs up strife, But he who trusts in the Lord will be prospered. むさぼる者は争いを起し、主に信頼する者は豊かになる。
28 26 He who trusts in his own heart is a fool, But whoever walks wisely will be delivered. 自分の心を頼む者は愚かである、知恵をもって歩む者は救を得る。
28 27 He who gives to the poor will not lack, But he who hides his eyes will have many curses. 貧しい者に施す者は物に不足しない、目をおおって見ない人は多くののろいをうける。
28 28 When the wicked arise, men hide themselves; But when they perish, the righteous increase. 悪しき者が起るときは、民は身をかくす、その滅びるときは、正しい人が増す。
箴言 Proverbs 29 29
29 1 He who is often rebuked, and hardens his neck, Will suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy. しばしばしかられても、なおかたくなな者は、たちまち打ち敗られて助かることはない。
29 2 When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. 正しい者が権力を得れば民は喜び、悪しき者が治めるとき、民はうめき苦しむ。
29 3 Whoever loves wisdom makes his father rejoice, But a companion of harlots wastes his wealth. 知恵を愛する人はその父を喜ばせ、遊女に交わる者はその資産を浪費する。
29 4 The king establishes the land by justice, But he who receives bribes overthrows it. 王は公儀をもって国を堅くする、しかし、重税を取り立てる者はこれを滅ぼす。
29 5 A man who flatters his neighbor Spreads a net for his feet. その隣り人にへつらう者は、彼の足の前に網を張る。
29 6 By transgression an evil man is snared, But the righteous sings and rejoices. 悪人は自分の罪のわなに陥る、しかし正しい人は喜び楽しむ。
29 7 The righteous considers the cause of the poor, But the wicked does not understand such knowledge. 正しい人は貧しい者の訴えをかえりみる、悪しき人はそれを知ろうとはしない。
29 8 Scoffers set a city aflame, But wise men turn away wrath. あざける人は町を乱し、知恵ある者は怒りを静める。
29 9 If a wise man contends with a foolish man, Whether the fool rages or laughs, there is no peace. 知恵ある人が愚かな人と争うと、愚かな者はただ怒り、あるいは笑って、休むことがない。
29 10The bloodthirsty hate the blameless, But the upright seek his well-being. 血に飢えている人は罪のない者を憎む、悪しき者は彼の命を求める。
29 11 A fool vents all his feelings, But a wise man holds them back. 愚かな者は怒りをことごとく表わし、知恵ある者は静かにこれをおさえる。
29 12If a ruler pays attention to lies, All his servants become wicked. もし治める者が偽りの言葉に聞くならば、その役人らはみな悪くなる。
29 13The poor man and the oppressor have this in common: The Lord gives light to the eyes of both. 貧しい者と、しえたげる者とは共に世におる、主は彼ら両者の目に光を与えられる。
29 14 The king who judges the poor with truth, His throne will be established forever. もし王が貧しい者を公平にさばくならば、その位はいつまでも堅く立つ。
29 15 The rod and rebuke give wisdom, But a child left to himself brings shame to his mother. むちと戒めとは知恵を与える、わがままにさせた子はその母に恥をもたらす。
29 16When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increases; But the righteous will see their fall. 悪しき者が権力を得ると罪も増す、正しい者は彼らの倒れるのを見る。
29 17 Correct your son, and he will give you rest; Yes, he will give delight to your soul. あなたの子を懲らしめよ、そうすれば彼はあなたを安らかにし、またあなたの心に喜びを与える。
29 18 Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; But happy is he who keeps the law. 預言がなければ民はわがままにふるまう、しかし律法を守る者はさいわいである。
29 19 A servant will not be corrected by mere words; For though he understands, he will not respond. しもべは言葉だけで訓練することはできない、彼は聞いて知っても、心にとめないからである。
29 20 Do you see a man hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him. 言葉の軽率な人を見るか、彼よりもかえって愚かな者のほうに望みがある。
29 21 He who pampers his servant from childhood Will have him as a son in the end. しもべをその幼い時からわがままに育てる人は、ついにはそれを自分のあとつぎにする。
29 22 An angry man stirs up strife, And a furious man abounds in transgression. 怒る人は争いを起し、憤る人は多くの罪を犯す。
29 23 A man's pride will bring him low, But the humble in spirit will retain honor. 人の高ぶりはその人を低くし、心にへりくだる者は誉を得る。
29 24 Whoever is a partner with a thief hates his own life; He swears to tell the truth, but reveals nothing. 盗びとにくみする者は自分の魂を憎む、彼はのろいを聞いても何事をも口外しない。
29 25 The fear of man brings a snare, But whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe. 人を恐れると、わなに陥る、主に信頼する者は安らかである。
29 26 Many seek the ruler's favor, But justice for man comes from the Lord. 治める者の歓心を得ようとする人は多い、しかし人の事を定めるのは主による。
29 27 An unjust man is an abomination to the righteous, And he who is upright in the way is an abomination to the wicked. 正しい人は不正を行う人を憎み、悪しき者は正しく歩む人を憎む。
箴言 Proverbs 30 30
30 1 The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, his utterance. This man declared to Ithiel--to Ithiel and Ucal: マッサの人ヤケの子アグルの言葉。その人はイテエルに向かって言った、すなわちイテエルと、ウカルとに向かって言った、
30 2 Surely I am more stupid than any man, And do not have the understanding of a man. わたしは確かに人よりも愚かであり、わたしには人の悟りがない。
30 3 I neither learned wisdom Nor have knowledge of the Holy One. わたしはまだ知恵をならうことができず、また、聖なる者を悟ることもできない。
30 4 Who has ascended into heaven, or descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has bound the waters in a garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name, and what is His Son's name, If you know? 天にのぼったり、下ったりしたのはだれか、風をこぶしの中に集めたのはだれか、水を着物に包んだのはだれか、地のすべての限界を定めた者はだれか、その名は何か、その子の名は何か、あなたは確かにそれを知っている。
30 5 Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. 神の言葉はみな真実である、神は彼に寄り頼む者の盾である。
30 6 Do not add to His words, Lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar. その言葉に付け加えてはならない、彼があなたを責め、あなたを偽り者とされないためだ。
30 7 Two things I request of You (Deprive me not before I die): わたしは二つのことをあなたに求めます、わたしの死なないうちに、これをかなえてください。
30 8 Remove falsehood and lies far from me; Give me neither poverty nor riches-- Feed me with the food allotted to me; うそ、偽りをわたしから遠ざけ、貧しくもなく、また富みもせず、ただなくてならぬ食物でわたしを養ってください。
30 9 Lest I be full and deny You, And say, "Who is the Lord?" Or lest I be poor and steal, And profane the name of my God. 飽き足りて、あなたを知らないといい、「主とはだれか」と言うことのないため、また貧しくて盗みをし、わたしの神の名を汚すことのないためです。
30 10 Do not malign a servant to his master, Lest he curse you, and you be found guilty. あなたは、しもべのことをその主人に、あしざまにいってはならない、そうでないと彼はあなたをのろい、あなたは罪をきせられる。
30 11 There is a generation that curses its father, And does not bless its mother. 世には父をのろったり、母を祝福しない者がある。
30 12 There is a generation that is pure in its own eyes, Yet is not washed from its filthiness. 世には自分の目にみずからを清い者として、なおその汚れを洗われないものがある。
30 13 There is a generation--oh, how lofty are their eyes! And their eyelids are lifted up. 世にはまた、このような人がある――ああ、その目のいかに高きことよ、またそのまぶたのいかにつりあがっていることよ。
30 14 There is a generation whose teeth are like swords, And whose fangs are like knives, To devour the poor from off the earth, And the needy from among men. 世にはまたつるぎのような歯をもち、刀のようなきばをもって、貧しい者を地の上から、乏しい者を人の中から食い滅ぼすものがある。
30 15 The leech has two daughters-- Give and Give! There are three things that are never satisfied, Four never say, "Enough!": 蛭にふたりの娘があって、「与えよ、与えよ」という。飽くことを知らないものが三つある、いや、四つあって、皆「もう、たくさんです」と言わない。
30 16 The grave, The barren womb, The earth that is not satisfied with water-- And the fire never says, "Enough!" すなわち陰府、不妊の胎、水にかわく地、「もう、たくさんだ」といわない火がそれである。
30 17 The eye that mocks his father, And scorns obedience to his mother, The ravens of the valley will pick it out, And the young eagles will eat it. 自分の父をあざけり、母に従うのを卑しいこととする目は、谷のからすがこれをつつき出し、はげたかがこれを食べる。
30 18 There are three things which are too wonderful for me, Yes, four which I do not understand: わたしにとって不思議にたえないことが三つある、いや、四つあって、わたしには悟ることができない。
30 19 The way of an eagle in the air, The way of a serpent on a rock, The way of a ship in the midst of the sea, And the way of a man with a virgin. すなわち空を飛ぶはげたかの道、岩の上を這うへびの道、海をはしる舟の道、男の女にあう道がそれである。
30 20 This is the way of an adulterous woman: She eats and wipes her mouth, And says, "I have done no wickedness." 遊女の道もまたそうだ、彼女は食べて、その口をぬぐって、「わたしは何もわるいことはしない」と言う。
30 21 For three things the earth is perturbed, Yes, for four it cannot bear up: 地は三つのことによって震う、いや、四つのことによって、耐えることができない。
30 22For a servant when he reigns, A fool when he is filled with food, すなわち奴隷たる者が王となり、愚かな者が食物に飽き、
30 23 A hateful woman when she is married, And a maidservant who succeeds her mistress. 忌みきらわれた女が嫁に行き、はしためが女主人のあとにすわることである。
30 24 There are four things which are little on the earth, But they are exceedingly wise: この地上に、小さいけれども、非常に賢いものが四つある。
30 25 The ants are a people not strong, Yet they prepare their food in the summer; ありは力のない種類だが、その食糧を夏のうちに備える。
30 26 The rock badgers are a feeble folk, Yet they make their homes in the crags; 岩だぬきは強くない種類だが、その家を岩につくる。
30 27 The locusts have no king, Yet they all advance in ranks; いなごは王がないけれども、みな隊を組んでいで立つ。
30 28 The spider skillfully grasps with its hands, And it is in kings' palaces. やもりは手でつかまえられるが、王の宮殿におる。
30 29 There are three things which are majestic in pace, Yes, four which are stately in walk: 歩きぶりの堂々たる者が三つある、いや、四つあって、みな堂々と歩く。
30 30 A lion, which is mighty among beasts And does not turn away from any; すなわち獣のうちでもっとも強く、何ものの前にも退かない、しし、
30 31 A greyhound, A male goat also, And a king whose troops are with him. 尾を立てて歩くおんどり、雄やぎ、その民の前をいばって歩く王がそれである。
30 32 If you have been foolish in exalting yourself, Or if you have devised evil, put your hand on your mouth. あなたがもし愚かであって自ら高ぶり、あるいは悪事を計ったならば、あなたの手を口に当てるがよい。
30 33 For as the churning of milk produces butter, And wringing the nose produces blood, So the forcing of wrath produces strife. 乳をしめれば凝乳が出る、鼻をしめれば血がでる、怒りをしめれば争いが起る。
箴言 Proverbs 31 31
31 1 The words of King Lemuel, the utterance which his mother taught him: マッサの王レムエルの言葉、すなわちその母が彼に教えたものである。
31 2 What, my son? And what, son of my womb? And what, son of my vows? わが子よ、何を言おうか。わが胎の子よ、何を言おうか。わたしが願をかけて得た子よ、何をいおうか。
31 3 Do not give your strength to women, Nor your ways to that which destroys kings. あなたの力を女についやすな、王をも滅ぼすものに、あなたの道を任せるな。
31 4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, It is not for kings to drink wine, Nor for princes intoxicating drink; レムエルよ、酒を飲むのは、王のすることではない、王のすることではない、濃い酒を求めるのは君たる者のすることではない。
31 5 Lest they drink and forget the law, And pervert the justice of all the afflicted. 彼らは酒を飲んで、おきてを忘れ、すべて悩む者のさばきを曲げる。
31 6Give strong drink to him who is perishing, And wine to those who are bitter of heart. 濃い酒を滅びようとしている者に与え、酒を心の苦しむ人に与えよ。
31 7 Let him drink and forget his poverty, And remember his misery no more. 彼らは飲んで自分の貧乏を忘れ、その悩みをもはや思い出さない。
31 8 Open your mouth for the speechless, In the cause of all who are appointed to die. あなたは黙っている人のために、すべてのみなしごの訴えのために、口を開くがよい。
31 9 Open your mouth, judge righteously, And plead the cause of the poor and needy. 口を開いて、正しいさばきを行い、貧しい者と乏しい者の訴えをただせ。
31 10 Who can find a virtuous wife? For her worth is far above rubies. だれが賢い妻を見つけることができるか、彼女は宝石よりもすぐれて尊い。
31 11 The heart of her husband safely trusts her; So he will have no lack of gain. その夫の心は彼女を信頼して、収益に欠けることはない。
31 12 She does him good and not evil All the days of her life. 彼女は生きながらえている間、その夫のために良いことをして、悪いことをしない。
31 13 She seeks wool and flax, And willingly works with her hands. 彼女は羊の毛や亜麻を求めて、手ずから望みのように、それを仕上げる。
31 14 She is like the merchant ships, She brings her food from afar. また商人の舟のように、遠い国から食糧を運んでくる。
31 15 She also rises while it is yet night, And provides food for her household, And a portion for her maidservants. 彼女はまだ夜のあけぬうちに起きて、その家の者の食べ物を備え、その女たちに日用の分を与える。
31 16 She considers a field and buys it; From her profits she plants a vineyard. 彼女は畑をよく考えてそれを買い、その手の働きの実をもって、ぶどう畑をつくり、
31 17 She girds herself with strength, And strengthens her arms. 力をもって腰に帯し、その腕を強くする。
31 18 She perceives that her merchandise is good, And her lamp does not go out by night. 彼女はその商品のもうけのあるのを知っている、そのともしびは終夜消えることがない。
31 19 She stretches out her hands to the distaff, And her hand holds the spindle. 彼女は手を糸取り棒にのべ、その手に、つむを持ち、
31 20 She extends her hand to the poor, Yes, she reaches out her hands to the needy. 手を貧しい者に開き、乏しい人に手をさしのべる。
31 21 She is not afraid of snow for her household, For all her household is clothed with scarlet. 彼女はその家の者のために雪を恐れない、その家の者はみな紅の着物を着ているからである。
31 22 She makes tapestry for herself; Her clothing is fine linen and purple. 彼女は自分のために美しいしとねを作り、亜麻布と紫布とをもってその着物とする。
31 23 Her husband is known in the gates, When he sits among the elders of the land. その夫はその地の長老たちと共に、町の門に座するので、人に知られている。
31 24 She makes linen garments and sells them, And supplies sashes for the merchants. 彼女は亜麻布の着物をつくって、それを売り、帯をつくって商人に渡す。
31 25 Strength and honor are her clothing; She shall rejoice in time to come. 力と気品とは彼女の着物である、そして後の日を笑っている。
31 26 She opens her mouth with wisdom, And on her tongue is the law of kindness. 彼女は口を開いて知恵を語る、その舌にはいつくしみの教がある。
31 27 She watches over the ways of her household, And does not eat the bread of idleness. 彼女は家の事をよくかえりみ、怠りのかてを食べることをしない。
31 28 Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her: その子らは立ち上がって彼女を祝し、その夫もまた彼女をほめたたえて言う、
31 29 "Many daughters have done well, But you excel them all." 「りっぱに事をなし遂げる女は多いけれども、あなたはそのすべてにまさっている」と。
31 30 Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, But a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised. あでやかさは偽りであり、美しさはつかのまである、しかし主を恐れる女はほめたたえられる。
31 31 Give her of the fruit of her hands, And let her own works praise her in the gates. その手の働きの実を彼女に与え、その行いのために彼女を町の門でほめたたえよ。
