1 1 Moab rebelled against Israel after the death of Ahab. アハブが死んだ後、モアブはイスラエルにそむいた。
1 2 Now Ahaziah fell through the lattice of his upper room in Samaria, and was injured; so he sent messengers and said to them, "Go, inquire of Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron, whether I shall recover from this injury." さてアハジヤはサマリヤにある高殿のらんかんから落ちて病気になったので、死者をつかわし、「行ってエクロンの神バアル・ゼブブに、この病気がなおるかどうかを尋ねよ」と命じた。
1 3 But the angel of the Lord said to Elijah the Tishbite, "Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say to them, 'Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are going to inquire of Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron?' 時に、主の使はテシベびとエリヤに言った、「立って、上って行き、サマリヤの王の使者に会って言いなさい、『あなたがたがエクロンの神バアル・ゼブブに尋ねようとして行くのは、イスラエルに神がないためか』。
1 4 Now therefore, thus says the Lord: 'You shall not come down from the bed to which you have gone up, but you shall surely die.' " So Elijah departed. それゆえ主はこう仰せられる、『あなたは、登った寝台から降りることなく、必ず死ぬであろう』」。そこでエリヤは上って行った。
1 5 And when the messengers returned to him, he said to them, "Why have you come back?" 使者たちがアハジヤのもとに帰ってきたので、アハジヤは彼らに言った、「なぜ帰ってきたのか」。
1 6 So they said to him, "A man came up to meet us, and said to us, 'Go, return to the king who sent you, and say to him, "Thus says the Lord: 'Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are sending to inquire of Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron? Therefore you shall not come down from the bed to which you have gone up, but you shall surely die.' 1 7 Then he said to them, "What kind of man was it who came up to meet you and told you these words?" アハジヤは彼らに言った、「上ってきて、あなたがたに会って、これらの事を告げた人はどんな人であったか」。
1 8 So they answered him, "A hairy man wearing a leather belt around his waist." And he said, "It is Elijah the Tishbite." 彼らは答えた、「その人は毛ごろもを着て、腰に皮の帯を締めていました」。彼は言った、「その人はテシべびとエリヤだ」。
1 9 Then the king sent to him a captain of fifty with his fifty men. So he went up to him; and there he was, sitting on the top of a hill. And he spoke to him: "Man of God, the king has said, 'Come down!' " そこで王は五十人の長を、部下の五十人と共にエリヤの所へつかわした。彼がエリヤの所へ上っていくと、エリヤは山の頂にすわっていたので、エリヤに言った、「神の人よ、王があなたに、下って来るようにと言われます」。
1 10 So Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, "If I am a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men." And fire came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty. しかしエリヤは五十人の長に答えた、「わたしがもし神の人であるならば、火が天から下って、あなたと部下の五十人とを焼き尽すでしょう」。そのように火が天から下って、彼と部下の五十人とを焼き尽した。
1 11 Then he sent to him another captain of fifty with his fifty men. And he answered and said to him: "Man of God, thus has the king said, 'Come down quickly!' " 王はまた他の五十人の長を、部下の五十人と共にエリヤにつかわした。彼は上っていってエリヤに言った、「神の人よ、王がこう命じられます、『すみやかに下ってきなさい』」。
1 12 So Elijah answered and said to them, "If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and consume you and your fifty men." And the fire of God came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty. しかしエリヤは彼らに答えた、「わたしがもし神の人であるならば、火が天から下って、あなたと部下の五十人とを焼き尽すでしょう」。そのように神の火が天から下って、彼と部下の五十人とを焼き尽した。
1 13 Again, he sent a third captain of fifty with his fifty men. And the third captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before Elijah, and pleaded with him, and said to him: "Man of God, please let my life and the life of these fifty servants of yours be precious in your sight. 王はまた第三の五十人の長を部下の五十人と共につかわした。第三の五十人の長は上っていって、エリヤの前にひざまずき、彼に願って言った、「神の人よ、どうぞ、わたしの命と、あなたのしもべであるこの五十人の命をあなたの目に尊いものとみなしてください。
1 14 Look, fire has come down from heaven and burned up the first two captains of fifties with their fifties. But let my life now be precious in your sight." ごらんなさい、火が天からくだって、さきの五十人の長ふたりと、その部下の五十人ずつとを焼き尽しました。しかし今わたしの命をあなたの目に尊いものとみなしてください」。
1 15 And the angel of the Lord said to Elijah, "Go down with him; do not be afraid of him." So he arose and went down with him to the king. その時、主の使はエリヤに言った、「彼と共に下りなさい。彼を恐れてはならない」。そこでエリヤは立って、彼と共に下り、王のもとへ行って、
1 16 Then he said to him, "Thus says the Lord: 'Because you have sent messengers to inquire of Baal-Zebub, the god of Ekron, is it because there is no God in Israel to inquire of His word? Therefore you shall not come down from the bed to which you have gone up, but you shall surely die.' " 王に言った、「主はこう仰せられます、『あなたはエクロンの神バアル・ゼブブに尋ねようと使者をつかわしたが、それはイスラエルに、その言葉を求むべき神がないためであるか。それゆえあなたは、登った寝台から降りることなく、必ず死ぬであろう』」。
1 17 So Ahaziah died according to the word of the Lord which Elijah had spoken. Because he had no son, Jehoram became king in his place, in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah. 彼はエリヤが言った主の言葉のとおりに死んだが、彼に子がなかったので、その兄弟ヨラムが彼に代って王となった。これはユダの王ヨシャパテの子ヨラムの第二年である。

2 1 And it came to pass, when the Lord was about to take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal. 主がつむじ風をもってエリヤを天に上らせようとされた時、エリヤはエリシャと共にギルガルを出て行った。
2 2 Then Elijah said to Elisha, "Stay here, please, for the Lord has sent me on to Bethel." But Elisha said, "As the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you!" So they went down to Bethel. エリヤはエリシャに言った、「どうぞ、ここにとどまってください。主はわたしをベテルにつかわされるのですから」。しかしエリシャは言った、「主は生きておられます。またあなたも生きておられます。わたしはあなたを離れません」。そして彼らはベテルへ下った。
2 3 Now the sons of the prophets who were at Bethel came out to Elisha, and said to him, "Do you know that the Lord will take away your master from over you today?" And he said, "Yes, I know; keep silent!" ベテルにいる預言者のともがらが、エリシャのもとに出てきて彼に言った、「主がきょう、あなたの師事する主人をあなたから取られるのを知っていますか」。彼は言った、「はい、知っています。あなたがたは黙っていてください」。
2 4 Then Elijah said to him, "Elisha, stay here, please, for the Lord has sent me on to Jericho." But he said, "As the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you!" 2 5 Now the sons of the prophets who were at Jericho came to Elisha and said to him, "Do you know that the Lord will take away your master from over you today?" So he answered, "Yes, I know; keep silent!" エリコにいた預言者のともがらが、エリシャのもとにきて彼に言った、「主がきょう、あなたの師事する主人をあなたから取られるのを知っていますか」。彼は言った、「はい、知っています。あなたがたは黙っていてください」。
2 6 Then Elijah said to him, "Stay here, please, for the Lord has sent me on to the Jordan." But he said, "As the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you!" 2 8 Now Elijah took his mantle, rolled it up, and struck the water; and it was divided this way and that, so that the two of them crossed over on dry ground. エリヤは外套を取り、それを巻いて水を打つと、水が左右に分れたので、二人はかわいた土の上を渡ることができた。
2 9And so it was, when they had crossed over, that Elijah said to Elisha, "Ask! What may I do for you, before I am taken away from you?" 2 11 Then it happened, as they continued on and talked, that suddenly a chariot of fire appeared with horses of fire, and separated the two of them; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. 彼らが進みながら語っていた時、火の車と火の馬があらわれて、ふたりを隔てた。そしてエリヤはつむじ風に乗って天にのぼった。
2 12 And Elisha saw it, and he cried out, "My father, my father, the chariot of Israel and its horsemen!" So he saw him no more. And he took hold of his own clothes and tore them into two pieces. エリシャはこれを見て「わが父よ、わが父よ、イスラエルの戦車よ、その騎兵よ」と叫んだが、再び彼を見なかった。そこでエリシャは自分の着物をつかんで、それを二つに裂き、
2 13 He also took up the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and went back and stood by the bank of the Jordan. またエリヤの身から落ちた外套を取り上げ、帰ってきてヨルダンの岸に立った。
2 14 Then he took the mantle of Elijah that had fallen from him, and struck the water, and said, "Where is the Lord God of Elijah?" And when he also had struck the water, it was divided this way and that; and Elisha crossed over. そしてエリヤの身から落ちたその外套を取って水を打ち、「エリヤの神、主はどこにおられますか」と言い、彼が水を打つと、水は左右に分れたので、エリシャは渡った。
2 15 Now when the sons of the prophets who were from Jericho saw him, they said, "The spirit of Elijah rests on Elisha." And they came to meet him, and bowed to the ground before him. エリコにいる預言者のともがらは彼の近づいて来るのを見て、「エリヤの霊がエリシャの上にとどまっている」と言った。そして彼らは来て彼を迎え、その前に地に伏して、
2 16 Then they said to him, "Look now, there are fifty strong men with your servants. Please let them go and search for your master, lest perhaps the Spirit of the Lord has taken him up and cast him upon some mountain or into some valley." And he said, "You shall not send anyone." 彼に言った、「しもべらの所に力の強い者が五十人います。どうぞ彼らをつかわして、あなたの主人を尋ねさせてください。主の霊が彼を引きあげて、彼を山か谷に投げたのかも知れません」。エリシャは「つかわしてはならない」と言ったが、
2 17 But when they urged him till he was ashamed, he said, "Send them!" Therefore they sent fifty men, and they searched for three days but did not find him. 彼の恥じるまで、しいたので、彼は「つかわしなさい」と言った。それで彼らは五十人の者をつかわし、三日の間尋ねたが、彼を見いださなかった。
2 18 And when they came back to him, for he had stayed in Jericho, he said to them, "Did I not say to you, 'Do not go'?" エリシャのなおエリコにとどまっている時、彼らが帰ってきたので、エリシャは彼らに言った、「わたしは、あなたがたに、行ってはならないと告げたではないか」。
2 19 Then the men of the city said to Elisha, "Please notice, the situation of this city is pleasant, as my lord sees; but the water is bad, and the ground barren." 町の人々はエリシャに言った、「見られるとおり、この町の場所は良いが水が悪いので、この地は流産を起すのです」。
2 20 And he said, "Bring me a new bowl, and put salt in it." So they brought it to him. エリシャは言った、「新しい皿に塩を盛って、わたしに持ってきなさい」。彼らは持ってきた。
2 21 Then he went out to the source of the water, and cast in the salt there, and said, "Thus says the Lord: 'I have healed this water; from it there shall be no more death or barrenness.' " エリシャは水の源へ出て行って、塩をそこに投げ入れて言った、「主はこう仰せられる、『わたしはこの水を良い水にした。もはやここには死も流産も起らないであろう』」。
2 22 So the water remains healed to this day, according to the word of Elisha which he spoke. こうしてその水はエリシャの言ったとおりに良い水になって今日に至っている。
2 23 Then he went up from there to Bethel; and as he was going up the road, some youths came from the city and mocked him, and said to him, "Go up, you baldhead! Go up, you baldhead!" 彼はそこからベテルへ上ったが、上って行く途中、小さい子供らが町から出てきて彼をあざけり、彼にむかって「はげ頭よ、のぼれ。はげ頭よ、のぼれ」と言ったので、
2 24 So he turned around and looked at them, and pronounced a curse on them in the name of the Lord. And two female bears came out of the woods and mauled forty-two of the youths. 彼はふり返って彼らを見、主の名をもって彼らをのろった。すると林の中から二頭の雌ぐまが出てきて、その子供らのうち四十二人を裂いた。
2 25 Then he went from there to Mount Carmel, and from there he returned to Samaria. 彼はそこからカルメル山へ行き、そこからサマリヤに帰った。

3 1 Now Jehoram the son of Ahab became king over Israel at Samaria in the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, and reigned twelve years. ユダの王ヨシャパテの第十八年にアハブの子ヨラムはサマリヤでイスラエルの王となり、十二年世を治めた。
3 2 And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, but not like his father and mother; for he put away the sacred pillar of Baal that his father had made. 彼は主の目の前に悪をおこなったが、その父母のようではなかった。彼がその父の造ったバアルの石柱を除いたからである。
3 3 Nevertheless he persisted in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who had made Israel sin; he did not depart from them. しかし彼はイスラエルに罪を犯させたネバテの子ヤラベアムの罪につき従って、それを離れなかった。
3 4 Now Mesha king of Moab was a sheepbreeder, and he regularly paid the king of Israel one hundred thousand lambs and the wool of one hundred thousand rams. モアブの王メシャは羊の飼育者で、十万の小羊と、十万の雄羊の毛とを年々イスラエルの王に納めていたが、
3 5 But it happened, when Ahab died, that the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel. アハブが死んだ後、モアブの王はイスラエルの王にそむいた。
3 6 So King Jehoram went out of Samaria at that time and mustered all Israel. そこでヨラム王はその時サマリヤを出て、イスラエルびとをことごとく集め、
3 7 Then he went and sent to Jehoshaphat king of Judah, saying, "The king of Moab has rebelled against me. Will you go with me to fight against Moab?" And he said, "I will go up; I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses." また、人をユダの王ヨシャパテにつかわし、「モアブの王はわたしにそむきました。あなたはモアブと戦うために、わたしと一緒に行かれませんか」と言わせた。彼は言った、「行きましょう。わたしはあなたと一つです。わたしの民はあなたの民と一つです。わたしの馬はあなたの馬と一つです」。
3 8 Then he said, "Which way shall we go up?" And he answered, "By way of the Wilderness of Edom." 彼はまた言った、「われわれはどの道を上るのですか」。ヨラムは答えた、「エドムの荒野の道を上りましょう」。
3 9 So the king of Israel went with the king of Judah and the king of Edom, and they marched on that roundabout route seven days; and there was no water for the army, nor for the animals that followed them. こうしてイスラエルの王はユダの王およびエドムの王と共に出て行った。しかし彼らは回り道をして、七日の間進んだが、軍勢とそれに従う家畜の飲む水がなかったので、
3 10 And the king of Israel said, "Alas! For the Lord has called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab." イスラエルの王は言った、「ああ、主は、この三人の王をモアブの手に渡そうとして召し集められたのだ」。
3 11 But Jehoshaphat said, "Is there no prophet of the Lord here, that we may inquire of the Lord by him?" So one of the servants of the king of Israel answered and said, "Elisha the son of Shaphat is here, who poured water on the hands of Elijah." ヨシャパテは言った、「われわれが主に問うことのできる主の預言者はここにいませんか」。イスラエルの王のひとりの家来が答えた、「エリヤの手に水を注いだシャパテの子エリシャがここにいます」。
3 12And Jehoshaphat said, "The word of the Lord is with him." So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him. ヨシャパテは言った、「主の言葉が彼にあります」。そこでイスラエルの王とヨシャパテとエドムの王とは彼のもとへ下っていった。
3 13 Then Elisha said to the king of Israel, "What have I to do with you? Go to the prophets of your father and the prophets of your mother." But the king of Israel said to him, "No, for the Lord has called these three kings together to deliver them into the hand of Moab." エリシャはイスラエルの王に言った、「わたしはあなたとなんのかかわりがありますか。あなたの父上の預言者たちと母上の預言者たちの所へ行きなさい」。イスラエルの王は彼に言った、「いいえ、主がこの三人の王をモアブの手に渡そうとして召し集められたのです」。
3 14 And Elisha said, "As the Lord of hosts lives, before whom I stand, surely were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, I would not look at you, nor see you. エリシャは言った、「わたしの仕える万軍の主は生きておられます。わたしはユダの王ヨシャパテのためにするのでなければ、あなたを顧み、あなたに会うことはしないのだが、
3 15 But now bring me a musician." Then it happened, when the musician played, that the hand of the Lord came upon him. いま楽人をわたしの所に連れてきなさい」。そこで楽人が楽を奏すると、主の手が彼に臨んで、
3 16 And he said, "Thus says the Lord: 'Make this valley full of ditches.' 彼は言った、「主はこう仰せられる、『わたしはこの谷を水たまりで満たそう』。
3 17 For thus says the Lord: 'You shall not see wind, nor shall you see rain; yet that valley shall be filled with water, so that you, your cattle, and your animals may drink.' これは主がこう仰せられるからである、『あなたがたは風も雨も見ないのに、この谷に水が満ちて、あなたがたと、その家畜および獣が飲むであろう』。
3 18 And this is a simple matter in the sight of the Lord; He will also deliver the Moabites into your hand. これは主の目には小さい事である。主はモアブびとをも、あなたがたの手に渡される。
3 19Also you shall attack every fortified city and every choice city, and shall cut down every good tree, and stop up every spring of water, and ruin every good piece of land with stones." そしてあなたがたはすべての堅固な町と、すべての良い町を撃ち、すべての良い木を切り倒し、すべての水の井戸をふさぎ、石をもって地のすべての良い所を荒すであろう」。
3 20 Now it happened in the morning, when the grain offering was offered, that suddenly water came by way of Edom, and the land was filled with water. あくる朝になって、供え物をささげる時に、水がエドムの方から流れてきて、水は国に満ちた。
3 21 And when all the Moabites heard that the kings had come up to fight against them, all who were able to bear arms and older were gathered; and they stood at the border. さてモアブびとは皆、王たちが自分たちを攻めるために上ってきたのを聞いたので、よろいを着ることのできる者を、老いも若きもことごとく召集して、国境に配置したが、
3 22 Then they rose up early in the morning, and the sun was shining on the water; and the Moabites saw the water on the other side as red as blood. 朝はやく起きて、太陽がのぼって水を照したとき、モアブびとは目の前に血のように赤い水を見たので、
3 23 And they said, "This is blood; the kings have surely struck swords and have killed one another; now therefore, Moab, to the spoil!" 彼らは言った、「これは血だ、きっと王たちが互に戦って殺し合ったのだ。だから、モアブよ、ぶんどりに行きなさい」。
3 24So when they came to the camp of Israel, Israel rose up and attacked the Moabites, so that they fled before them; and they entered their land, killing the Moabites. しかしモアブびとがイスラエルの陣営に行くと、イスラエルびとは立ちあがってモアブびとを撃ったので、彼らはイスラエルの前から逃げ去った。イスラエルびとは進んで、モアブびとを撃ち、その国にはいって、
3 25 Then they destroyed the cities, and each man threw a stone on every good piece of land and filled it; and they stopped up all the springs of water and cut down all the good trees. But they left the stones of Kir Haraseth intact. However the slingers surrounded and attacked it. 町々を滅ぼし、おのおの石を一つずつ、地のすべての良い所に投げて、これに満たし、水の井戸をことごとくふさぎ、良い木をことごとく切り倒して、ただキル・ハラセテはその名を残すのみとなったが、石を投げる者がこれを囲んで撃ち滅ぼした。
3 26And when the king of Moab saw that the battle was too fierce for him, he took with him seven hundred men who drew swords, to break through to the king of Edom, but they could not. モアブの王は戦いがあまりに激しく、当りがたいのを見て、つるぎを抜く者七百人を率い、エドムの王の所に突き入ろうとしたが、果さなかったので、
3 27 Then he took his eldest son who would have reigned in his place, and offered him as a burnt offering upon the wall; and there was great indignation against Israel. So they departed from him and returned to their own land. 自分の位を継ぐべきその長子をとって城壁の上で燔祭としてささげた。その時イスラエルに大いなる憤りが臨んだので、彼らは彼をすてて自分の国に帰った。

4 1 A certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, "Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord. And the creditor is coming to take my two sons to be his slaves." 預言者のともがらの、ひとりの妻がエリシャに呼ばわって言った、「あなたのしもべであるわたしの夫が死にました。ごぞんじのように、あなたのしもべは主を恐れる者でありましたが、今、債主がきて、わたしのふたりの子供を取って奴隷にしようとしているのです」。
4 2 So Elisha said to her, "What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?" And she said, "Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil." エリシャは彼女に言った、「あなたのために何をしましょうか。あなたの家にどんな物があるか、言いなさい」。彼女は言った、「一びんの油のほかは、はしための家に何もありません」。
4 3 Then he said, "Go, borrow vessels from everywhere, from all your neighbors--empty vessels; do not gather just a few. 彼は言った、「ほかへ行って、隣の人々から器を借りなさい。あいた器を借りなさい。少しばかりではいけません。
4 4 And when you have come in, you shall shut the door behind you and your sons; then pour it into all those vessels, and set aside the full ones." そして内にはいって、あなたの子供たちと一緒に戸の内に閉じこもり、そのすべての器に油をついで、いっぱいになったとき、一つずつそれを取りのけておきなさい」。
4 5 So she went from him and shut the door behind her and her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured it out. 彼女は彼を離れて去り、子供たちと一緒に戸の内に閉じこもり、子供たちの持って来る器に油をついだ。
4 6 Now it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said to her son, "Bring me another vessel." And he said to her, "There is not another vessel." So the oil ceased. 油が満ちたとき、彼女は子供に「もっと器を持ってきなさい」と言ったが、子供が「器はもうありません」と言ったので、油はとまった。
4 7 Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, "Go, sell the oil and pay your debt; and you and your sons live on the rest." そこで彼女は神の人のところにきて告げたので、彼は言った、「行って、その油を売って負債を払いなさい。あなたと、あなたの子供たちはその残りで暮すことができます」。

4 10 Please, let us make a small upper room on the wall; and let us put a bed for him there, and a table and a chair and a lampstand; so it will be, whenever he comes to us, he can turn in there." わたしたちは屋上に壁のある一つの小さいへやを造り、そこに寝台と机といすと燭台とを彼のために備えましょう。そうすれば彼がわたしたちの所に来るとき、そこに、はいることができます」。
4 11 And it happened one day that he came there, and he turned in to the upper room and lay down there. さて、ある日エリシャはそこにきて、そのへやにはいり、そこに休んだが、
4 12 Then he said to Gehazi his servant, "Call this Shunammite woman." When he had called her, she stood before him. 彼はそのしもべゲハジに「このシュネムの女を呼んできなさい」と言った。彼がその女を呼ぶと、彼女はきてエリシャの前に立ったので、
4 13 And he said to him, "Say now to her, 'Look, you have been concerned for us with all this care. What can I do for you? Do you want me to speak on your behalf to the king or to the commander of the army?' 4 14 So he said, "What then is to be done for her?" And Gehazi answered, "Actually, she has no son, and her husband is old." エリシャは言った、「それでは彼女のために何をしようか」。ゲハジは言った、「彼女には子供がなく、その夫は老いています」。
4 15 So he said, "Call her." When he had called her, she stood in the doorway. するとエリシャが「彼女を呼びなさい」と言ったので、彼女を呼ぶと、来て戸口に立った。
4 16Then he said, "About this time next year you shall embrace a son." And she said, "No, my lord. Man of God, do not lie to your maidservant!" エリシャは言った、「来年の今ごろ、あなたはひとりの子を抱くでしょう」。彼女は言った、「いいえ、わが主よ、神の人よ、はしためを欺かないでください」。
4 17 But the woman conceived, and bore a son when the appointed time had come, of which Elisha had told her. しかし女はついに身ごもって、エリシャが彼女に言ったように、次の年のそのころに子を産んだ。
4 18 And the child grew. Now it happened one day that he went out to his father, to the reapers. その子が成長して、ある日、刈入れびとの所へ出ていって、父のもとへ行ったが、
4 19 And he said to his father, "My head, my head!" So he said to a servant, "Carry him to his mother." 父にむかって「頭が、頭が」と言ったので、父はしもべに「彼を母のもとへ背負っていきなさい」と言った。
4 20 When he had taken him and brought him to his mother, he sat on her knees till noon, and then died. 彼を背負って母のもとへ行くと、昼まで母のひざの上にすわっていたが、ついに死んだ。
4 21 And she went up and laid him on the bed of the man of God, shut the door upon him, and went out. 母は上がっていって、これを神の人の寝台の上に置き、戸を閉じて出てきた。
4 22 Then she called to her husband, and said, "Please send me one of the young men and one of the donkeys, that I may run to the man of God and come back." そして夫を呼んで言った、「どうぞ、しもべひとりと、ろば一頭をわたしにかしてください。急いで神の人の所へ行って、また帰ってきます」。
4 23 So he said, "Why are you going to him today? It is neither the New Moon nor the Sabbath." And she said, "It is well." 夫は言った、「どうしてきょう彼の所へ行こうとするのか。きょうは、ついたちでもなく、安息日でもない」。彼女は言った、「よろしいのです」。
4 24 Then she saddled a donkey, and said to her servant, "Drive, and go forward; do not slacken the pace for me unless I tell you." そして彼女はろばにくらを置いて、しもべに言った、「速く駆けさせなさい。わたしが命じる時でなければ、歩調をゆるめてはなりません」。
4 25And so she departed, and went to the man of God at Mount Carmel.So it was, when the man of God saw her afar off, that he said to his servant Gehazi, "Look, the Shunammite woman!. こうして彼女は出発してカルメル山へ行き、神の人の所へ行った。神の人は彼女の近づいてくるのを見て、しもべゲハジに言った、「向こうから、あのシュネムの女が来る。

4 27 Now when she came to the man of God at the hill, she caught him by the feet, but Gehazi came near to push her away. But the man of God said, "Let her alone; for her soul is in deep distress, and the Lord has hidden it from me, and has not told me." ところが彼女は山にきて、神の人の所へくるとエリシャの足にすがりついた。ゲハジが彼女を追いのけようと近よった時、神の人は言った、「かまわずにおきなさい。彼女は心に苦しみがあるのだから。主はそれを隠して、まだわたしにお告げにならないのだ」。
4 28 So she said, "Did I ask a son of my lord? Did I not say, 'Do not deceive me'?" そこで彼女は言った、「わたしがあなたに子を求めましたか。わたしを欺かないでくださいと言ったではありませんか」。
4 29 Then he said to Gehazi, "Get yourself ready, and take my staff in your hand, and be on your way. If you meet anyone, do not greet him; and if anyone greets you, do not answer him; but lay my staff on the face of the child." エリシャはゲハジに言った、「腰をひきからげ、わたしのつえを手に持って行きなさい。だれに会っても、あいさつしてはならない。またあなたにあいさつする者があっても、それに答えてはならない。わたしのつえを子供の顔の上に置きなさい」。
4 30 And the mother of the child said, "As the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, I will not leave you." So he arose and followed her. 子供の母は言った、「主は生きておられます。あなたも生きておられます。わたしはあなたを離れません」。そこでエリシャはついに立ちあがって彼女のあとについて行った。
4 31 Now Gehazi went on ahead of them, and laid the staff on the face of the child; but there was neither voice nor hearing. Therefore he went back to meet him, and told him, saying, "The child has not awakened." ゲハジは彼らの先に行って、つえを子供の顔の上に置いたが、なんの声もなく、生きかえったしるしもなかったので、帰ってきてエリシャに会い、彼に告げて「子供はまだ目をさましません」と言った。
4 32 When Elisha came into the house, there was the child, lying dead on his bed. エリシャが家にはいって見ると、子供は死んで、寝台の上に横たわっていたので、
4 33 He went in therefore, shut the door behind the two of them, and prayed to the Lord. 彼ははいって戸を閉じ、彼らふたりだけ内にいて主に祈った。
4 34 And he went up and lay on the child, and put his mouth on his mouth, his eyes on his eyes, and his hands on his hands; and he stretched himself out on the child, and the flesh of the child became warm. そしてエリシャが上がって子供の上に伏し、自分の口を子供の口の上に、自分の目を子供の目の上に、自分の両手を子供の両手の上にあて、その身を子供の上に伸ばしたとき、子供のからだは暖かになった。
4 35 He returned and walked back and forth in the house, and again went up and stretched himself out on him; then the child sneezed seven times, and the child opened his eyes. こうしてエリシャは再び起きあがって、家の中をあちらこちらと歩み、また上がって、その身を子供の上に伸ばすと、子供は七たびくしゃみをして目を開いた。
4 36 And he called Gehazi and said, "Call this Shunammite woman." So he called her. And when she came in to him, he said, "Pick up your son." エリシャはただちにゲハジを呼んで、「あのシュネムの女を呼べ」と言ったので、彼女を呼んだ。彼女がはいってくるとエリシャは言った、「あなたの子供をつれて行きなさい」。
4 37 So she went in, fell at his feet, and bowed to the ground; then she picked up her son and went out. 彼女ははいってきて、エリシャの足もとに伏し、地に身をかがめた。そしてその子供を取りあげて出ていった。
4 38And Elisha returned to Gilgal, and there was a famine in the land. Now the sons of the prophets were sitting before him; and he said to his servant, "Put on the large pot, and boil stew for the sons of the prophets." エリシャはギルガルに帰ったが、その地にききんがあった。預言者のともがらが彼の前に座していたので、エリシャはそのしもべに言った、「大きなかまをすえて、預言者のともがらのために野菜の煮物をつくりなさい」。
4 39 So one went out into the field to gather herbs, and found a wild vine, and gathered from it a lapful of wild gourds, and came and sliced them into the pot of stew, though they did not know what they were. 彼らのうちのひとりが畑に出ていって青物をつんだが、つる草のあるのを見て、その野うりを一包つんできて、煮物のかまの中に切り込んだ。彼らはそれが何であるかを知らなかったからである。
4 40 Then they served it to the men to eat. Now it happened, as they were eating the stew, that they cried out and said, "Man of God, there is death in the pot!" And they could not eat it. やがてこれを盛って人々に食べさせようとしたが、彼らがその煮物を食べようとした時、叫んで、「ああ神の人よ、かまの中に、たべると死ぬものがはいっています」と言って、食べることができなかったので、
4 41 So he said, "Then bring some flour." And he put it into the pot, and said, "Serve it to the people, that they may eat." And there was nothing harmful in the pot. エリシャは「それでは粉を持って来なさい」と言って、それをかまに投げ入れ、「盛って人々に食べさせなさい」と言った。かまの中には、なんの毒物もなくなった。
4 42 Then a man came from Baal Shalisha, and brought the man of God bread of the firstfruits, twenty loaves of barley bread, and newly ripened grain in his knapsack. And he said, "Give it to the people, that they may eat." その時、バアル・シャリシャから人がきて、初穂のパンと、大麦のパン二十個と、新穀一袋とを神の人のもとに持ってきたので、エリシャは「人々に与えて食べさせなさい」と言ったが、
4 43 But his servant said, "What? Shall I set this before one hundred men?" He said again, "Give it to the people, that they may eat; for thus says the Lord: 'They shall eat and have some left over.' " その召使は言った、「どうしてこれを百人の前に供えるのですか」。しかし彼は言った、「人々に与えて食べさせなさい。主はこう言われる、『彼らは食べてなお余すであろう』」。
4 44 So he set it before them; and they ate and had some left over, according to the word of the Lord. そこで彼はそれを彼らの前に供えたので、彼らは食べてなお余した。主の言葉のとおりであった。

5 1 Now Naaman, commander of the army of the king of Syria, was a great and honorable man in the eyes of his master, because by him the Lord had given victory to Syria. He was also a mighty man of valor, but a leper. スリヤ王の軍勢の長ナアマンはその主君に重んじられた有力な人であった。主がかつて彼を用いてスリヤに勝利を得させられたからである。彼は大勇士であったが、らい病をわずらっていた。
5 2 And the Syrians had gone out on raids, and had brought back captive a young girl from the land of Israel. She waited on Naaman's wife. さきにスリヤびとが略奪隊を組んで出てきたとき、イスラエルの地からひとりの少女を捕えて行った。彼女はナアマンの妻に仕えたが、
5 3Then she said to her mistress, "If only my master were with the prophet who is in Samaria! For he would heal him of his leprosy." その女主人にむかって、「ああ、御主人がサマリヤにいる預言者と共におられたらよかったでしょうに。彼はそのらい病をいやしたことでしょう」と言ったので、
5 4 And Naaman went in and told his master, saying, "Thus and thus said the girl who is from the land of Israel." ナアマンは行って、その主君に、「イスラエルの地からきた娘がこういう事を言いました」と告げると、
5 5 Then the king of Syria said, "Go now, and I will send a letter to the king of Israel." So he departed and took with him ten talents of silver, six thousand shekels of gold, and ten changes of clothing. スリヤ王は言った、「それでは行きなさい。わたしはイスラエルの王に手紙を書きましょう」。そこで彼は銀十タラントと、金六千シケルと、晴れ着十着を携えて行った。
5 6 Then he brought the letter to the king of Israel, which said, Now be advised, when this letter comes to you, that I have sent Naaman my servant to you, that you may heal him of his leprosy. 彼がイスラエルの王に持って行った手紙には、「この手紙があなたにとどいたならば、わたしの家来ナアマンを、あなたにつかわしたことと御承知ください。あなたに彼のらい病をいやしていただくためです」とあった。
5 7 And it happened, when the king of Israel read the letter, that he tore his clothes and said, "Am I God, to kill and make alive, that this man sends a man to me to heal him of his leprosy? Therefore please consider, and see how he seeks a quarrel with me." イスラエルの王はその手紙を読んだ時、衣を裂いて言った、「わたしは殺したり、生かしたりすることのできる神であろうか。どうしてこの人は、らい病人をわたしにつかわして、それをいやせと言うのか。あなたがたは、彼がわたしに争いをしかけているのを知って警戒するがよい」。
5 8 So it was, when Elisha the man of God heard that the king of Israel had torn his clothes, that he sent to the king, saying, "Why have you torn your clothes? Please let him come to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel." 神の人エリシャは、イスラエルの王がその衣を裂いたことを聞き、王に人をつかわして言った、「どうしてあなたは衣を裂いたのですか。彼をわたしのもとにこさせなさい。そうすれば彼はイスラエルに預言者のあることを知るようになるでしょう」。
5 9 Then Naaman went with his horses and chariot, and he stood at the door of Elisha's house. そこでナアマンは馬と車とを従えてきて、エリシャの家の入口に立った。
5 10 And Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, "Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall be restored to you, and you shall be clean." するとエリシャは彼に使者をつかわして言った、「あなたはヨルダンへ行って七たび身を洗いなさい。そうすれば、あなたの肉はもとにかえって清くなるでしょう」。
5 11 But Naaman became furious, and went away and said, "Indeed, I said to myself, 'He will surely come out to me, and stand and call on the name of the Lord his God, and wave his hand over the place, and heal the leprosy.' しかしナアマンは怒って去り、そして言った、「わたしは、彼がきっとわたしのもとに出てきて立ち、その神、主の名を呼んで、その箇所の上に手を動かして、らい病をいやすのだろうと思った。
5 12 Are not the Abanah and the Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Could I not wash in them and be clean?" So he turned and went away in a rage. ダマスコの川アバナとパルパルはイスラエルのすべての川水にまさるではないか。わたしはこれらの川に身を洗って清まることができないのであろうか」。こうして彼は身をめぐらし、怒って去った。
5 13 And his servants came near and spoke to him, and said, "My father, if the prophet had told you to do something great, would you not have done it? How much more then, when he says to you, 'Wash, and be clean'?" その時、しもべたちは彼に近よって言った、「わが父よ、預言者があなたに、何か大きな事をせよと命じても、あなたはそれをなさらなかったでしょうか。まして彼はあなたに『身を洗って清くなれ』と言うだけではありませんか」。
5 14 So he went down and dipped seven times in the Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God; and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean. そこでナアマンは下って行って、神の人の言葉のように七たびヨルダンに身を浸すと、その肉がもとにかえって幼な子の肉のようになり、清くなった。
5 15 And he returned to the man of God, he and all his aides, and came and stood before him; and he said, "Indeed, now I know that there is no God in all the earth, except in Israel; now therefore, please take a gift from your servant." 彼はすべての従者を連れて神の人のもとに帰ってきて、その前に立って言った、「わたしは今、イスラエルのほか、全地のどこにも神のおられないことを知りました。それゆえ、どうぞ、しもべの贈り物を受けてください」。
5 16 But he said, "As the Lord lives, before whom I stand, I will receive nothing." And he urged him to take it, but he refused. エリシャは言った、「わたしの仕える主は生きておられる。わたしは何も受けません」。彼はしいて受けさせようとしたが、それを拒んだ。
5 17 So Naaman said, "Then, if not, please let your servant be given two mule-loads of earth; for your servant will no longer offer either burnt offering or sacrifice to other gods, but to the Lord. そこでナアマンは言った、「もしお受けにならないのであれば、どうぞ騾馬に二駄の土をしもべにください。これから後しもべは、他の神には燔祭も犠牲もささげず、ただ主にのみささげます。
5 18 Yet in this thing may the Lord pardon your servant: when my master goes into the temple of Rimmon to worship there, and he leans on my hand, and I bow down in the temple of Rimmon--when I bow down in the temple of Rimmon, may the Lord please pardon your servant in this thing." どうぞ主がこの事を、しもべにおゆるしくださるように。すなわち、わたしの主君がリンモンの宮にはいって、そこで礼拝するとき、わたしの手によりかかることがあり、またわたしもリンモンの宮で身をかがめることがありましょう。わたしがリンモンの宮で身をかがめる時、どうぞ主がその事を、しもべにおゆるしくださるように」。
5 19 Then he said to him, "Go in peace." So he departed from him a short distance. エリシャは彼に言った、「安んじて行きなさい」。ナアマンがエリシャを離れて少し行ったとき、
5 20 But Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God, said, "Look, my master has spared Naaman this Syrian, while not receiving from his hands what he brought; but as the Lord lives, I will run after him and take something from him." 神の人エリシャのしもべゲハジは言った、「主人はこのスリヤびとナアマンをいたわって、彼が携えてきた物を受けなかった。主は生きておられる。わたしは彼のあとを追いかけて、彼から少し、物を受けよう」。
5 21 So Gehazi pursued Naaman. When Naaman saw him running after him, he got down from the chariot to meet him, and said, "Is all well?" そしてゲハジはナアマンのあとを追ったが、ナアマンは自分のあとから彼が走ってくるのを見て、車から降り、彼を迎えて、「変った事があるのですか」と言うと、
5 22 And he said, "All is well. My master has sent me, saying, 'Indeed, just now two young men of the sons of the prophets have come to me from the mountains of Ephraim. Please give them a talent of silver and two changes of garments.' " 彼は言った、「無事です。主人がわたしをつかわして言わせます、『ただいまエフライムの山地から、預言者のともがらのふたりの若者が、わたしのもとに来ましたので、どうぞ彼らに銀一タラントと晴れ着二着を与えてください』」。
5 23 So Naaman said, "Please, take two talents." And he urged him, and bound two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of garments, and handed them to two of his servants; and they carried them on ahead of him. ナアマンは、「どうぞ二タラントを受けてください」と言って彼にしい、銀二タラントを二つの袋に入れ、晴れ着二着を添えて、自分のふたりのしもべに渡したので、彼らはそれを負ってゲハジの先に立って進んだが、
5 24 When he came to the citadel, he took them from their hand, and stored them away in the house; then he let the men go, and they departed. 彼は丘にきたとき、それを彼らの手から受け取って家のうちにおさめ、人々を送りかえしたので、彼らは去った。
5 25 Now he went in and stood before his master. Elisha said to him, "Where did you go, Gehazi?" And he said, "Your servant did not go anywhere." 彼がはいって主人の前に立つと、エリシャは彼に言った、「ゲハジよ、どこへ行ってきたのか」。彼は言った、「しもべはどこへも行きません」。
5 26 Then he said to him, "Did not my heart go with you when the man turned back from his chariot to meet you? Is it time to receive money and to receive clothing, olive groves and vineyards, sheep and oxen, male and female servants? エリシャは言った、「あの人が車をはなれて、あなたを迎えたとき、わたしの心はあなたと一緒にそこにいたではないか。今は金を受け、着物を受け、オリブ畑、ぶどう畑、羊、牛、しもべ、はしためを受ける時であろうか。
5 27 Therefore the leprosy of Naaman shall cling to you and your descendants forever." And he went out from his presence leprous, as white as snow. それゆえ、ナアマンのらい病はあなたに着き、ながくあなたの子孫に及ぶであろう」。彼がエリシャの前を出ていくとき、らい病が発して雪のように白くなっていた。

6 1 And the sons of the prophets said to Elisha, "See now, the place where we dwell with you is too small for us. さて預言者のともがらはエリシャに言った、「わたしたちがあなたと共に住んでいる所は狭くなりましたので、
6 2 Please, let us go to the Jordan, and let every man take a beam from there, and let us make there a place where we may dwell." So he answered, "Go." わたしたちをヨルダンに行かせ、そこからめいめい一本ずつ材木を取ってきて、わたしたちの住む場所を造らせてください」。エリシャは言った、「行きなさい」。
6 3Then one said, "Please consent to go with your servants." And he answered, "I will go." 時にそのひとりが、「どうぞあなたも、しもべらと一緒に行ってください」と言ったので、エリシャは「行きましょう」と答えた。
6 4So he went with them. And when they came to the Jordan, they cut down trees. そしてエリシャは彼らと一緒に行った。彼らはヨルダンへ行って木を切り倒したが、
6 5 But as one was cutting down a tree, the iron ax head fell into the water; and he cried out and said, "Alas, master! For it was borrowed." ひとりが材木を切り倒しているとき、おのの頭が水の中に落ちたので、彼は叫んで言った。「ああ、わが主よ。これは借りたものです」。
6 6 So the man of God said, "Where did it fall?" And he showed him the place. So he cut off a stick, and threw it in there; and he made the iron float. 神の人は言った、「それはどこに落ちたのか」。彼がその場所を知らせると、エリシャは一本の枝を切り落し、そこに投げ入れて、そのおのの頭を浮ばせ、
6 7 Therefore he said, "Pick it up for yourself." So he reached out his hand and took it. 「それを取りあげよ」と言ったので、その人は手を伸べてそれを取った。
6 8 Now the king of Syria was making war against Israel; and he consulted with his servants, saying, "My camp will be in such and such a place." かつてスリヤの王がイスラエルと戦っていたとき、家来たちと評議して「しかじかの所にわたしの陣を張ろう」と言うと、
6 9 And the man of God sent to the king of Israel, saying, "Beware that you do not pass this place, for the Syrians are coming down there." 神の人はイスラエルの王に「あなたは用心して、この所をとおってはなりません。スリヤびとがそこに下ってきますから」と言い送った。
6 10 Then the king of Israel sent someone to the place of which the man of God had told him. Thus he warned him, and he was watchful there, not just once or twice. それでイスラエルの王は神の人が自分に告げてくれた所に人をつかわし、警戒したので、その所でみずからを防ぎえたことは一、二回にとどまらなかった。
6 11 Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was greatly troubled by this thing; and he called his servants and said to them, "Will you not show me which of us is for the king of Israel?" スリヤの王はこの事のために心を悩まし、家来たちを召して言った、「われわれのうち、だれがイスラエルの王と通じているのか、わたしに告げる者はないか」。
6 12 And one of his servants said, "None, my lord, O king; but Elisha, the prophet who is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that you speak in your bedroom." ひとりの家来が言った、「王、わが主よ、だれも通じている者はいません。ただイスラエルの預言者エリシャが、あなたが寝室で語られる言葉でもイスラエルの王に告げるのです」。
6 13 So he said, "Go and see where he is, that I may send and get him." And it was told him, saying, "Surely he is in Dothan." 王は言った、「彼がどこにいるか行って捜しなさい。わたしは人をやって彼を捕えよう」。時に「彼はドタンにいる」と王に告げる者があったので、
6 14 Therefore he sent horses and chariots and a great army there, and they came by night and surrounded the city. 王はそこに馬と戦車および大軍をつかわした。彼らは夜のうちに来て、その町を囲んだ。
6 15 And when the servant of the man of God arose early and went out, there was an army, surrounding the city with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him, "Alas, my master! What shall we do?" 神の人の召使が朝早く起きて出て見ると、軍勢が馬と戦車をもって町を囲んでいたので、その若者はエリシャに言った、「ああ、わが主よ、わたしたちはどうしましょうか」。
6 16 So he answered, "Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them." エリシャは言った、「恐れることはない。われわれと共にいる者は彼らと共にいる者よりも多いのだから」。
6 17 And Elisha prayed, and said, "Lord, I pray, open his eyes that he may see." Then the Lord opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha. そしてエリシャが祈って「主よ、どうぞ、彼の目を開いて見させてください」と言うと、主はその若者の目を開かれたので、彼が見ると、火の馬と火の戦車が山に満ちてエリシャのまわりにあった。
6 18 So when the Syrians came down to him, Elisha prayed to the Lord, and said, "Strike this people, I pray, with blindness." And He struck them with blindness according to the word of Elisha. スリヤびとがエリシャの所に下ってきた時、エリシャは主に祈って言った、「どうぞ、この人々の目をくらましてください」。するとエリシャの言葉のとおりに彼らの目をくらまされた。
6 19 Now Elisha said to them, "This is not the way, nor is this the city. Follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom you seek." But he led them to Samaria. そこでエリシャは彼らに「これはその道ではない。これはその町でもない。わたしについてきなさい。わたしはあなたがたを、あなたがたの尋ねる人の所へ連れて行きましょう」と言って、彼らをサマリヤへ連れて行った。
6 20 So it was, when they had come to Samaria, that Elisha said, "Lord, open the eyes of these men, that they may see." And the Lord opened their eyes, and they saw; and there they were, inside Samaria! 彼らがサマリヤにはいったとき、エリシャは言った、「主よ、この人々の目を開いて見させてください」。主は彼らの目を開かれたので、彼らが見ると、見よ、彼らはサマリヤのうちに来ていた。
6 21 Now when the king of Israel saw them, he said to Elisha, "My father, shall I kill them? Shall I kill them?" イスラエルの王は彼らを見て、エリシャに言った、「わが父よ、彼らを撃ち殺しましょうか。彼らを撃ち殺しましょうか」。
6 22 But he answered, "You shall not kill them. Would you kill those whom you have taken captive with your sword and your bow? Set food and water before them, that they may eat and drink and go to their master." エリシャは答えた、「撃ち殺してはならない。あなたはつるぎと弓をもって、捕虜にした者どもを撃ち殺すでしょうか。パンと水を彼らの前に供えて食い飲みさせ、その主君のもとへ行かせなさい」。
6 23 Then he prepared a great feast for them; and after they ate and drank, he sent them away and they went to their master. So the bands of Syrian raiders came no more into the land of Israel. そこで王は彼らのために盛んなふるまいを設けた。彼らが食い飲みを終ると彼らを去らせたので、その主君の所へ帰った。スリヤの略奪隊は再びイスラエルの地にこなかった。
6 24 And it happened after this that Ben-Hadad king of Syria gathered all his army, and went up and besieged Samaria. この後スリヤの王ベネハダデはその全軍を集め、上ってきてサマリヤを攻め囲んだので、
6 25 And there was a great famine in Samaria; and indeed they besieged it until a donkey's head was sold for eighty shekels of silver, and one-fourth of a kab of dove droppings for five shekels of silver. サマリヤに激しいききんが起った。すなわち彼らがこれを攻め囲んだので、ついに、ろばの頭一つが銀八十シケルで売られ、はとのふん一カブの四分の一が銀五シケルで売られるようになった。
6 26 Then, as the king of Israel was passing by on the wall, a woman cried out to him, saying, "Help, my lord, O king!" イスラエルの王が城壁の上をとおっていた時、ひとりの女が彼に呼ばわって、「わが主、王よ、助けてください」と言ったので、
6 27 And he said, "If the Lord does not help you, where can I find help for you? From the threshing floor or from the winepress?" 彼は言った、「もし主があなたを助けられないならば、何をもってわたしがあなたを助けることができよう。打ち場の物をもってか、酒ぶねの物をもってか」。
6 28 Then the king said to her, "What is troubling you?" And she answered, "This woman said to me, 'Give your son, that we may eat him today, and we will eat my son tomorrow.' そして王は女に尋ねた、「何事なのですか」。彼女は答えた、「この女はわたしにむかって『あなたの子をください。わたしたちは、きょうそれを食べ、あす、わたしの子を食べましょう』と言いました。
6 29 So we boiled my son, and ate him. And I said to her on the next day, 'Give your son, that we may eat him'; but she has hidden her son." それでわたしたちは、まずわたしの子を煮て食べましたが、次の日わたしが彼女にむかって『あなたの子をください。わたしたちはそれを食べましょう』と言いますと、彼女はその子を隠しました」。
6 30 Now it happened, when the king heard the words of the woman, that he tore his clothes; and as he passed by on the wall, the people looked, and there underneath he had sackcloth on his body. 王はその女の言葉を聞いて、衣を裂き、――王は城壁の上をとおっていたが、民が見ると、その身に荒布を着けていた――
6 31 Then he said, "God do so to me and more also, if the head of Elisha the son of Shaphat remains on him today." そして王は言った「きょう、シャパテの子エリシャの首がその肩の上にすわっているならば、神がどんなにでもわたしを罰してくださるように」。
6 32 But Elisha was sitting in his house, and the elders were sitting with him. And the king sent a man ahead of him, but before the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, "Do you see how this son of a murderer has sent someone to take away my head? Look, when the messenger comes, shut the door, and hold him fast at the door. Is not the sound of his master's feet behind him?" さてエリシャはその家に座していたが、長老たちもきて彼と共に座した。王は自分の所から人をつかわしたが、エリシャはその使者がまだ着かないうちに長老たちに言った、「あなたがたは、この人を殺す者がわたしの首を取るために、人をつかわすのを見ますか。その使者がきたならば、戸を閉じて、内に入れてはなりません。彼のうしろに、その主君の足音がするではありませんか」。
6 33 And while he was still talking with them, there was the messenger, coming down to him; and then the king said, "Surely this calamity is from the Lord; why should I wait for the Lord any longer?" 彼がなお彼らと語っているうちに、王は彼のもとに下ってきて言った、「この災は主から出たのです。わたしはどうしてこの上、主を待たなければならないでしょうか」。
列王記下 2 Kings 7 7
7 1 Then Elisha said, "Hear the word of the Lord. Thus says the Lord: 'Tomorrow about this time a seah of fine flour shall be sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, at the gate of Samaria.' " エリシャは言った、「主の言葉を聞きなさい。主はこう仰せられる、『あすの今ごろサマリヤの門で、麦粉一セアを一シケルで売り、大麦二セアを一シケルで売るようになるであろう』」。
7 2 So an officer on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God and said, "Look, if the Lord would make windows in heaven, could this thing be?" And he said, "In fact, you shall see it with your eyes, but you shall not eat of it." 時にひとりの副官すなわち王がその人の手によりかかっていた者が神の人に答えて言った、「たとい主が天に窓を開かれても、そんな事がありえましょうか」。エリシャは言った、「あなたは自分の目をもってそれを見るであろう。しかしそれを食べることはなかろう」。
7 3 Now there were four leprous men at the entrance of the gate; and they said to one another, "Why are we sitting here until we die? さて町の門の入口に四人のらい病人がいたが、彼らは互に言った、「われわれはどうしてここに座して死を待たねばならないのか。
7 4 If we say, 'We will enter the city,' the famine is in the city, and we shall die there. And if we sit here, we die also. Now therefore, come, let us surrender to the army of the Syrians. If they keep us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall only die." われわれがもし町にはいろうといえば、町には食物が尽きているから、われわれはそこで死ぬであろう。しかしここに座していても死ぬのだ。いっその事、われわれはスリヤびとの陣営へ逃げて行こう。もし彼らがわれわれを生かしておいてくれるならば、助かるが、たといわれわれを殺しても死ぬばかりだ」。
7 5 And they rose at twilight to go to the camp of the Syrians; and when they had come to the outskirts of the Syrian camp, to their surprise no one was there. そこで彼らはスリヤびとの陣営へ行こうと、たそがれに立ちあがったが、スリヤびとの陣営のほとりに行って見ると、そこにはだれもいなかった。
7 6For the Lord had caused the army of the Syrians to hear the noise of chariots and the noise of horses--the noise of a great army; so they said to one another, "Look, the king of Israel has hired against us the kings of the Hittites and the kings of the Egyptians to attack us!" これは主がスリヤびとの軍勢に戦車の音、馬の音、大軍の音を聞かせられたので、彼らは互に「見よ、イスラエルの王がわれわれを攻めるために、ヘテびとの王たちおよびエジプトの王たちを雇ってきて、われわれを襲うのだ」と言って、
7 7 Therefore they arose and fled at twilight, and left the camp intact--their tents, their horses, and their donkeys--and they fled for their lives. たそがれに立って逃げ、その天幕と、馬と、ろばを捨て、陣営をそのままにしておいて、命を全うしようと逃げたからである。
7 8 And when these lepers came to the outskirts of the camp, they went into one tent and ate and drank, and carried from it silver and gold and clothing, and went and hid them; then they came back and entered another tent, and carried some from there also, and went and hid it. そこでらい病人たちは陣営のほとりに行き、一つの天幕にはいって食い飲みし、そこから金銀、衣服を持ち出してそれを隠し、また来て、他の天幕に入り、そこからも持ち出してそれを隠した。
7 9 Then they said to one another, "We are not doing right. This day is a day of good news, and we remain silent. If we wait until morning light, some punishment will come upon us. Now therefore, come, let us go and tell the king's household." そして彼らは互に言った、「われわれのしている事はよくない。きょうは良いおとずれのある日であるのに、黙っていて、夜明けまで待つならば、われわれは罰をこうむるであろう。さあ、われわれは行って王の家族に告げよう」。
7 10 So they went and called to the gatekeepers of the city, and told them, saying, "We went to the Syrian camp, and surprisingly no one was there, not a human sound--only horses and donkeys tied, and the tents intact." そこで彼らは来て、町の門を守る者を呼んで言った、「わたしたちがスリヤびとの陣営に行って見ると、そこにはだれの姿も見えず、また人声もなく、ただ、馬とろばがつないであり、天幕はそのままでした」。
7 11 And the gatekeepers called out, and they told it to the king's household inside. そこで門を守る者は呼ばわって、それを王の家族のうちに知らせた。
7 12 So the king arose in the night and said to his servants, "Let me now tell you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we are hungry; therefore they have gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, 'When they come out of the city, we shall catch them alive, and get into the city.' " 王は夜のうちに起きて、家来たちに言った、「スリヤびとがわれわれに対して図っている事をあなたがたに告げよう。彼らは、われわれの飢えているのを知って、陣営を出て野に隠れ、『イスラエルびとが町を出たら、いけどりにして、町に押し入ろう』と考えているのだ」。
7 13 And one of his servants answered and said, "Please, let several men take five of the remaining horses which are left in the city. Look, they may either become like all the multitude of Israel that are left in it; or indeed, I say, they may become like all the multitude of Israel left from those who are consumed; so let us send them and see." 家来のひとりが答えて言った、「人々に、ここに残っている馬のうち五頭を連れてこさせてください。ここに残っているこれらの人々は、すでに滅びうせたイスラエルの全群衆と同じ運命にあうのですから。わたしたちは人をやってうかがわせましょう」。
7 14 Therefore they took two chariots with horses; and the king sent them in the direction of the Syrian army, saying, "Go and see." そこで彼らはふたりの騎兵を選んだ。王はそれをつかわし、「行って見よ」と言って、スリヤびとの軍勢のあとをつけさせたので、
7 15 And they went after them to the Jordan; and indeed all the road was full of garments and weapons which the Syrians had thrown away in their haste. So the messengers returned and told the king. 彼らはそのあとを追ってヨルダンまで行ったが、道にはすべて、スリヤびとがあわてて逃げる時に捨てていった衣服と武器が散らばっていた。その使者は帰ってきて、これを王に告げた。
7 16 Then the people went out and plundered the tents of the Syrians. So a seah of fine flour was sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, according to the word of the Lord. そこで民が出ていって、スリヤびとの陣営をかすめたので、麦粉一セアは一シケルで売られ、大麦二セアは一シケルで売られ、主の言葉のとおりになった。
7 17 Now the king had appointed the officer on whose hand he leaned to have charge of the gate. But the people trampled him in the gate, and he died, just as the man of God had said, who spoke when the king came down to him. 王は自分がその人の手によりかかっていた、あの副官を立てて門を管理させたが、民は門で彼を踏みつけたので、彼は死んだ。すなわち、王が神の人のところに下ってきた時、神の人が言ったとおりであった。
7 18 So it happened just as the man of God had spoken to the king, saying, "Two seahs of barley for a shekel, and a seah of fine flour for a shekel, shall be sold tomorrow about this time in the gate of Samaria." これは神の人が王にむかって、「あすの今ごろ、サマリヤの門で大麦二セアを一シケルで売り、麦粉一セアを一シケルで売るようになるであろう」と言ったときに、
7 19 Then that officer had answered the man of God, and said, "Now look, if the Lord would make windows in heaven, could such a thing be?" And he had said, "In fact, you shall see it with your eyes, but you shall not eat of it." その副官が神の人に答えて、「たとい主が天に窓を開かれても、そんな事がありえようか」と言ったからである。そのとき神の人は「あなたは自分の目をもってそれを見るであろう。しかしそれを食べることはなかろう」と言ったが、
7 20 And so it happened to him, for the people trampled him in the gate, and he died. これはそのとおり彼に臨んだ。すなわち民が門で彼を踏みつけたので彼は死んだ。
列王記下 2 Kings 8 8
8 1 Then Elisha spoke to the woman whose son he had restored to life, saying, "Arise and go, you and your household, and stay wherever you can; for the Lord has called for a famine, and furthermore, it will come upon the land for seven years." エリシャはかつて、その子を生きかえらせてやった女に言ったことがある。「あなたは、ここを立って、あなたの家族と共に行き、寄留しようと思う所に寄留しなさい。主がききんを呼び下されたので、七年の間それがこの地に臨むから」。
8 2 So the woman arose and did according to the saying of the man of God, and she went with her household and dwelt in the land of the Philistines seven years. そこで女は立って神の人の言葉のようにし、その家族と共に行ってペリシテびとの地に七年寄留した。
8 3 It came to pass, at the end of seven years, that the woman returned from the land of the Philistines; and she went to make an appeal to the king for her house and for her land. 七年たって後、女はペリシテびとの地から帰ってきて、自分の家と畑のために王に訴えようと出ていった。
8 4 Then the king talked with Gehazi, the servant of the man of God, saying, "Tell me, please, all the great things Elisha has done." 時に王は神の人のしもべゲハジにむかって「エリシャがしたもろもろの大きな事をわたしに話してください」と言って、彼と物語っていた。
8 5 Now it happened, as he was telling the king how he had restored the dead to life, that there was the woman whose son he had restored to life, appealing to the king for her house and for her land. And Gehazi said, "My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son whom Elisha restored to life." すなわちエリシャが死人を生きかえらせた事を、ゲハジが王と物語っていたとき、その子を生きかえらせてもらった女が、自分の家と畑のために王に訴えてきたので、ゲハジは言った、「わが主、王よ、これがその女です。またこれがその子で、エリシャが生きかえらせたのです」。
8 6 And when the king asked the woman, she told him. So the king appointed a certain officer for her, saying, "Restore all that was hers, and all the proceeds of the field from the day that she left the land until now." 王がその女に尋ねると、彼女は王に話したので、王は彼女のためにひとりの役人に命じて言った、「すべて彼女に属する物、ならびに彼女がこの地を去った日から今までのその畑の産物をことごとく彼女に返しなさい」。
8 7 Then Elisha went to Damascus, and Ben-Hadad king of Syria was sick; and it was told him, saying, "The man of God has come here." さてエリシャはダマスコに来た。時にスリヤの王ベネハダデは病気であったが、「神の人がここに来た」と告げる者があったので、
8 8 And the king said to Hazael, "Take a present in your hand, and go to meet the man of God, and inquire of the Lord by him, saying, 'Shall I recover from this disease?' " 王はハザエルに言った、「贈り物を携えて行って神の人を迎え、彼によって主に『わたしのこの病気はなおりましょうか』と言って尋ねなさい」。
8 9 So Hazael went to meet him and took a present with him, of every good thing of Damascus, forty camel-loads; and he came and stood before him, and said, "Your son Ben-Hadad king of Syria has sent me to you, saying, 'Shall I recover from this disease?' " そこでハザエルは彼を迎えようと、ダマスコのもろもろの良い物をらくだ四十頭に載せ、贈り物として携え行き、エリシャの前に立って言った、「あなたの子、スリヤの王ベネハダデがわたしをあなたにつかわして、『わたしのこの病気はなおりましょうか』と言わせています」。
8 10 And Elisha said to him, "Go, say to him, 'You shall certainly recover.' However the Lord has shown me that he will really die." エリシャは彼に言った、「行って彼に『あなたは必ずなおります』と告げなさい。ただし主はわたしに、彼が必ず死ぬことを示されました」。
8 11 Then he set his countenance in a stare until he was ashamed; and the man of God wept. そして神の人がひとみを定めて彼の恥じるまでに見つめ、やがて泣き出したので、
8 12 And Hazael said, "Why is my lord weeping?" He answered, "Because I know the evil that you will do to the children of Israel: Their strongholds you will set on fire, and their young men you will kill with the sword; and you will dash their children, and rip open their women with child." ハザエルは言った、「わが主よ、どうして泣かれるのですか」。エリシャは答えた、「わたしはあなたがイスラエルの人々にしようとする害悪を知っているからです。すなわち、あなたは彼らの城に火をかけ、つるぎをもって若者を殺し、幼な子を投げうち、妊娠の女を引き裂くでしょう」。
8 13 So Hazael said, "But what is your servant--a dog, that he should do this gross thing?" And Elisha answered, "The Lord has shown me that you will become king over Syria." ハザエルは言った、「しもべは一匹の犬にすぎないのに、どうしてそんな大きな事をすることができましょう」。エリシャは言った、「主がわたしに示されました。あなたはスリヤの王となるでしょう」。
8 14 Then he departed from Elisha, and came to his master, who said to him, "What did Elisha say to you?" And he answered, "He told me you would surely recover." 彼がエリシャのもとを去って、主君のところへ行くと、「エリシャはあなたになんと言ったか」と尋ねられたので、「あなたが必ずなおるでしょうと、彼はわたしに告げました」と答えた。
8 15 But it happened on the next day that he took a thick cloth and dipped it in water, and spread it over his face so that he died; and Hazael reigned in his place. しかし翌日になってハザエルは布を取って水に浸し、それをもって王の顔をおおったので、王は死んだ。ハザエルは彼に代って王となった。
8 16 Now in the fifth year of Joram the son of Ahab, king of Israel, Jehoshaphat having been king of Judah, Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat began to reign as king of Judah. イスラエルの王アハブの子ヨラムの第五年に、ユダの王ヨシャパテの子ヨラムが位についた。
8 17 He was thirty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned eight years in Jerusalem. 彼は王となったとき三十二歳で、八年の間エルサレムで世を治めた。
8 18 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, just as the house of Ahab had done, for the daughter of Ahab was his wife; and he did evil in the sight of the Lord. 彼はアハブの家がしたようにイスラエルの王たちの道に歩んだ。アハブの娘が彼の妻であったからである。彼は主の目の前に悪をおこなったが、
8 19 Yet the Lord would not destroy Judah, for the sake of his servant David, as He promised him to give a lamp to him and his sons forever. 主はしもべダビデのためにユダを滅ぼすことを好まれなかった。すなわち主は彼とその子孫に常にともしびを与えると、彼に約束されたからである。
8 20 In his days Edom revolted against Judah's authority, and made a king over themselves. ヨラムの世にエドムがそむいてユダの支配を脱し、みずから王を立てたので、
8 21 So Joram went to Zair, and all his chariots with him. Then he rose by night and attacked the Edomites who had surrounded him and the captains of the chariots; and the troops fled to their tents. ヨラムはすべての戦車を従えてザイルにわたって行き、その戦車の指揮官たちと共に、夜のうちに立ちあがって、彼を包囲しているエドムびとを撃った。しかしヨラムの軍隊は天幕に逃げ帰った。
8 22 Thus Edom has been in revolt against Judah's authority to this day. And Libnah revolted at that time. エドムはこのようにそむいてユダの支配を脱し、今日に至っている。リブナもまた同時にそむいた。
8 23 Now the rest of the acts of Joram, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? ヨラムのその他の事績および彼がしたすべての事は、ユダの歴代志の書にしるされているではないか。
8 24 So Joram rested with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the City of David. Then Ahaziah his son reigned in his place. ヨラムはその先祖たちと共に眠って、ダビデの町にその先祖たちと共に葬られ、その子アハジヤが代って王となった。
8 25 In the twelfth year of Joram the son of Ahab, king of Israel, Ahaziah the son of Jehoram, king of Judah, began to reign. イスラエルの王アハブの子ヨラムの第十二年にユダの王ヨラムの子アハジヤが位についた。
8 26 Ahaziah was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned one year in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Athaliah the granddaughter of Omri, king of Israel. アハジヤは王となったとき二十二歳で、エルサレムで一年世を治めた。その母は名をアタリヤと言って、イスラエルの王オムリの孫娘であった。
8 27 And he walked in the way of the house of Ahab, and did evil in the sight of the Lord, like the house of Ahab, for he was the son-in-law of the house of Ahab. アハジヤはまたアハブの家の道に歩み、アハブの家がしたように主の目の前に悪をおこなった。彼はアハブの家の婿であったからである。
8 28 Now he went with Joram the son of Ahab to war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramoth Gilead; and the Syrians wounded Joram. 彼はアハブの子ヨラムと共に行って、スリヤの王ハザエルとラモテ・ギレアデで戦ったが、スリヤびとらはヨラムに傷を負わせた。
8 29 Then King Joram went back to Jezreel to recover from the wounds which the Syrians had inflicted on him at Ramah, when he fought against Hazael king of Syria. And Ahaziah the son of Jehoram, king of Judah, went down to see Joram the son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he was sick. ヨラム王はそのスリヤの王ハザエルと戦うときにラマでスリヤびとに負わされた傷をいやすため、エズレルに帰ったが、ユダの王ヨラムの子アハジヤはアハブの子ヨラムが病んでいたので、エズレルに下って彼をおとずれた。

9 1 And Elisha the prophet called one of the sons of the prophets, and said to him, "Get yourself ready, take this flask of oil in your hand, and go to Ramoth Gilead. 時に預言者エリシャは預言者のともがらのひとりを呼んで言った、「腰をひきからげ、この油のびんを携えて、ラモテ・ギレアデへ行きなさい。
9 2 Now when you arrive at that place, look there for Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi, and go in and make him rise up from among his associates, and take him to an inner room. そこに着いたならば、ニムシの子ヨシャパテの子であるエヒウを尋ね出し、内にはいって彼をその同僚たちのうちから立たせて、奥の間に連れて行き、
9 3Then take the flask of oil, and pour it on his head, and say, 'Thus says the Lord: "I have anointed you king over Israel." ' Then open the door and flee, and do not delay." 油のびんを取って、その頭に注ぎ、『主はこう仰せられる、わたしはあなたに油を注いでイスラエルの王とする』と言い、そして戸をあけて逃げ去りなさい。とどまってはならない」。
9 4 So the young man, the servant of the prophet, went to Ramoth Gilead. そこで預言者であるその若者はラモテ・ギレアデへ行ったが、
9 5 And when he arrived, there were the captains of the army sitting; and he said, "I have a message for you, Commander." Jehu said, "For which one of us?" And he said, "For you, Commander." 来て見ると、軍勢の長たちが会議中であったので、彼は「将軍よ、わたしはあなたに申しあげる事があります」と言うと、エヒウが答えて、「われわれすべてのうちの、だれにですか」と言ったので、彼は「将軍よ、あなたにです」と言った。
9 6Then he arose and went into the house. And he poured the oil on his head, and said to him, "Thus says the Lord God of Israel: 'I have anointed you king over the people of the Lord, over Israel. するとエヒウが立ちあがって家にはいったので、若者はその頭に油を注いで彼に言った、「イスラエルの神、主はこう仰せられます、『わたしはあなたに油を注いで、主の民イスラエルの王とする。
9 7 You shall strike down the house of Ahab your master, that I may avenge the blood of My servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of the Lord, at the hand of Jezebel. あなたは主君アハブの家を撃ち滅ぼさなければならない。それによってわたしは、わたしのしもべである預言者たちの血と、主のすべてのしもべたちの血をイゼベルに報いる。
9 8 For the whole house of Ahab shall perish; and I will cut off from Ahab all the males in Israel, both bond and free. アハブの全家は滅びるであろう。アハブに属する男は、イスラエルにいて、つながれた者も、自由な者も、ことごとくわたしは断ち、
9 9 So I will make the house of Ahab like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah. アハブの家をネバテの子ヤラベアムのようにし、アヒヤの子バアシャの家のようにする。
9 10 The dogs shall eat Jezebel on the plot of ground at Jezreel, and there shall be none to bury her.' " And he opened the door and fled. 犬がイズレルの地域でイゼベルを食い、彼女を葬る者はないであろう』」。そして彼は戸をあけて逃げ去った。
9 11 Then Jehu came out to the servants of his master, and one said to him, "Is all well? Why did this madman come to you?" And he said to them, "You know the man and his babble." やがてエヒウが主君の家来たちの所へ出て来ると、彼らはエヒウに言った、「変った事はありませんか。あの気が変な人は、なんのためにあなたの所にきたのですか」。エヒウは彼らに言った、「あなたがたは、あの人を知っています。またその言う事も知っています」。
9 12 And they said, "A lie! Tell us now." So he said, "Thus and thus he spoke to me, saying, 'Thus says the Lord: "I have anointed you king over Israel." ' " 彼らは言った、「それは違います。どうぞわれわれに話してください」。そこでエヒウは言った、「彼はこうこう、わたしに告げて言いました、『主はこう仰せられる、わたしはあなたに油を注いで、イスラエルの王とする』」。
9 13 Then each man hastened to take his garment and put it under him on the top of the steps; and they blew trumpets, saying, "Jehu is king!" すると彼らは急いで、おのおの衣服をとり、それを階段の上のエヒウの下に敷き、ラッパを吹いて「エヒウは王である」と言った。
9 14 So Jehu the son of Jehoshaphat, the son of Nimshi, conspired against Joram. (Now Joram had been defending Ramoth Gilead, he and all Israel, against Hazael king of Syria. こうしてニムシの子であるヨシャパテの子エヒウはヨラムにそむいた。（ヨラムはイスラエルをことごとく率いて、ラモテ・ギレアデでスリヤの王ハザエルを防いだが、
9 15 But King Joram had returned to Jezreel to recover from the wounds which the Syrians had inflicted on him when he fought with Hazael king of Syria.) And Jehu said, "If you are so minded, let no one leave or escape from the city to go and tell it in Jezreel." ヨラム王はスリヤの王ハザエルと戦った時に、スリヤびとに負わされた傷をいやすため、エズレルに帰っていた。）エヒウは言った、「もしこれがあなたがたの本心であるならば、ひとりもこの町から忍び出て、これをエズレルに告げてはならない」。
9 16 So Jehu rode in a chariot and went to Jezreel, for Joram was laid up there; and Ahaziah king of Judah had come down to see Joram. そしてエヒウは車に乗ってエズレルへ行った。ヨラムがそこに伏していたからである。またユダの王アハジヤはヨラムを見舞うために下っていた。
9 17 Now a watchman stood on the tower in Jezreel, and he saw the company of Jehu as he came, and said, "I see a company of men." And Joram said, "Get a horseman and send him to meet them, and let him say, 'Is it peace?' " さてエズレルのやぐらに、ひとりの物見が立っていたが、エヒウの群衆が来るのを見て、「群衆が見える」と言ったので、ヨラムは言った、「ひとりを馬に乗せてつかわし、それに会わせて『平安ですか』と言わせなさい」。
9 18 So the horseman went to meet him, and said, "Thus says the king: 'Is it peace?' " And Jehu said, "What have you to do with peace? Turn around and follow me." So the watchman reported, saying, "The messenger went to them, but is not coming back." そこでひとりが馬に乗って行き、彼に会って言った、「王はこう仰せられます、『平安ですか』」。エヒウ言った、「あなたは平安となんの関係がありますか。わたしのあとについてきなさい」。物見はまた告げて言った、「使者は彼らの所へ行きましたが、帰ってきません」。
9 19 Then he sent out a second horseman who came to them, and said, "Thus says the king: 'Is it peace?' " And Jehu answered, "What have you to do with peace? Turn around and follow me." そこで再び人を馬でつかわしたので、彼らの所へ行って言った、「王はこう仰せられます、『平安ですか』」。エヒウは答えて言った、「あなたは平安となんの関係がありますか。わたしのあとについてきなさい」。
9 20 So the watchman reported, saying, "He went up to them and is not coming back; and the driving is like the driving of Jehu the son of Nimshi, for he drives furiously!" 物見はまた告げて言った、「彼も、彼らの所へ行きましたが帰ってきません。あの車の操縦はニムシの子エヒウの操縦するのに似て、猛烈な勢いで操縦して来ます」。
9 21 Then Joram said, "Make ready." And his chariot was made ready. Then Joram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah went out, each in his chariot; and they went out to meet Jehu, and met him on the property of Naboth the Jezreelite. そこでヨラムが「車を用意せよ」と言ったので、車を用意すると、イスラエルの王ヨラムと、ユダの王アハジヤは、おのおのその車で出て行った。すなわちエヒウに会うために出ていって、エズレルびとナボテの地所で彼に会った。
9 22 Now it happened, when Joram saw Jehu, that he said, "Is it peace, Jehu?" So he answered, "What peace, as long as the harlotries of your mother Jezebel and her witchcraft are so many?" ヨラムはエヒウを見て言った、「エヒウよ、平安ですか」。エヒウは答えた、「あなたの母イゼベルの姦淫と魔術とが、こんなに多いのに、どうして平安でありえましょうか」。
9 23 Then Joram turned around and fled, and said to Ahaziah, "Treachery, Ahaziah!" その時ヨラムは車をめぐらして逃げ、アハジヤにむかって、「アハジヤよ、反逆です」と言うと、
9 24 Now Jehu drew his bow with full strength and shot Jehoram between his arms; and the arrow came out at his heart, and he sank down in his chariot. エヒウは手に弓をひきしぼって、ヨラムの両肩の間を射たので、矢は彼の心臓を貫き、彼は車の中に倒れた。
9 25 Then Jehu said to Bidkar his captain, "Pick him up, and throw him into the tract of the field of Naboth the Jezreelite; for remember, when you and I were riding together behind Ahab his father, that the Lord laid this burden upon him: エヒウはその副官ビデカルに言った、「彼を取りあげて、エズレルびとナボテの畑に投げ捨てなさい。かつて、わたしとあなたと、ふたり共に乗って、彼の父アハブに従ったとき、主が彼について、この預言をされたことを記憶しなさい。
9 26 'Surely I saw yesterday the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons,' says the Lord, 'and I will repay you in this plot,' says the Lord. Now therefore, take and throw him on the plot of ground, according to the word of the Lord." すなわち主は言われた、『まことに、わたしはきのうナボテの血と、その子らの血を見た』。また主は言われた、『わたしはこの地所であなたに報復する』と。それゆえ彼を取りあげて、その地所に投げすて、主の言葉のようにしなさい」。
9 27 But when Ahaziah king of Judah saw this, he fled by the road to Beth Haggan. So Jehu pursued him, and said, "Shoot him also in the chariot." And they shot him at the Ascent of Gur, which is by Ibleam. Then he fled to Megiddo, and died there. ユダの王アハジヤはこれを見てベテハガンの方へ逃げたが、エヒウはそのあとを追い、「彼をも撃て」と言ったので、イブレアムのほとりのグルの坂で車の中の彼を撃った。彼はメギドまで逃げていって、そこで死んだ。
9 28 And his servants carried him in the chariot to Jerusalem, and buried him in his tomb with his fathers in the City of David. その家来たちは彼を車に載せてエルサレムに運び、ダビデの町で彼の墓にその先祖たちと共に葬った。
9 29 In the eleventh year of Joram the son of Ahab, Ahaziah had become king over Judah. アハブの子ヨラムの第十一年にアハジヤはユダの王となったのである。
9 30 Now when Jehu had come to Jezreel, Jezebel heard of it; and she put paint on her eyes and adorned her head, and looked through a window. エヒウがエズレルにきた時、イゼベルはそれを聞いて、その目を塗り、髪を飾って窓から望み見たが、
9 31 Then, as Jehu entered at the gate, she said, "Is it peace, Zimri, murderer of your master?" エヒウが門にはいってきたので、「主君を殺したジムリよ、無事ですか」と言った。
9 32 And he looked up at the window, and said, "Who is on my side? Who?" So two or three eunuchs looked out at him. するとエヒウは顔をあげて窓にむかい、「だれか、わたしに味方する者があるか。だれかあるか」と言うと、二、三人の宦官がエヒウを望み見たので、
9 33 Then he said, "Throw her down." So they threw her down, and some of her blood spattered on the wall and on the horses; and he trampled her underfoot. エヒウは「彼女を投げ落せ」と言った。彼らは彼女を投げ落したので、その血が壁と馬とにはねかかった。そして馬は彼女を踏みつけた。
9 34 And when he had gone in, he ate and drank. Then he said, "Go now, see to this accursed woman, and bury her, for she was a king's daughter." エヒウは内にはいって食い飲みし、そして言った、「あののろわれた女を見、彼女を葬りなさい。彼女は王の娘なのだ」。
9 35 So they went to bury her, but they found no more of her than the skull and the feet and the palms of her hands. しかし彼らが彼女を葬ろうとして行って見ると、頭蓋骨と、足と、たなごころのほか何もなかったので、
9 36 Therefore they came back and told him. And he said, "This is the word of the Lord, which He spoke by His servant Elijah the Tishbite, saying, 'On the plot of ground at Jezreel dogs shall eat the flesh of Jezebel; 帰って、彼に告げると、彼は言った、「これは主が、そのしもべ、テシベびとエリヤによってお告げになった言葉である。すなわち『エズレルの地で犬がイゼベルの肉を食うであろう。

10 1 Now Ahab had seventy sons in Samaria. And Jehu wrote and sent letters to Samaria, to the rulers of Jezreel, to the elders, and to those who reared Ahab's sons, saying: アハブはサマリヤに七十人の子供があった。エヒウは手紙をしたためてサマリヤに送り、町のつかさたちと、長老たちと、アハブの子供の守役たちとに伝えて言った、
10 2Now as soon as this letter comes to you, since your master's sons are with you, and you have chariots and horses, a fortified city also, and weapons, 「あなたがたの主君の子供たちがあなたがたと共におり、また戦車も馬も、堅固な町も武器もあるのだから、この手紙があなたがたのもとに届いたならば、すぐ、
10 3 choose the best qualified of your master's sons, set him on his father's throne, and fight for your master's house. あなたがたは主君の子供たちのうち最もすぐれた、最も適当な者を選んで、その父の位にすえ、主君の家のために戦いなさい」。
10 4But they were exceedingly afraid, and said, "Look, two kings could not stand up to him; how then can we stand?" 彼らは大いに恐れて言った、「ふたりの王たちがすでに彼に当ることができなかったのに、われわれがどうして当ることができよう」。
10 5 And he who was in charge of the house, and he who was in charge of the city, the elders also, and those who reared the sons, sent to Jehu, saying, "We are your servants, we will do all you tell us; but we will not make anyone king. Do what is good in your sight." そこで宮廷のつかさ、町のつかさ、長老たちと守役たちはエヒウに人をつかわして言った、「わたしたちは、あなたのしもべです。すべてあなたが命じられる事をいたします。わたしたちは王を立てることを好みません。あなたがよいと思われることをしてください」。
10 6 Then he wrote a second letter to them, saying: If you are for me and will obey my voice, take the heads of the men, your master's sons, and come to me at Jezreel by this time tomorrow. Now the king's sons, seventy persons, were with the great men of the city, who were rearing them. そこでエヒウは再び彼らに手紙を書き送って言った、「もしあなたがたが、わたしに味方し、わたしに従おうとするならば、あなたがたの主君の子供たちの首を取って、あすの今ごろエズレルにいるわたしのもとに持ってきなさい」。そのころ、王の子供たち七十人は彼らを育てていた町のおもだった人々と共にいた。
10 7 So it was, when the letter came to them, that they took the king's sons and slaughtered seventy persons, put their heads in baskets and sent them to him at Jezreel. 彼らはその手紙を受け取ると、王の子供たちを捕えて、その七十人をことごとく殺し、その首をかごにつめて、エズレルにいるエヒウのもとに送った。
10 8 Then a messenger came and told him, saying, "They have brought the heads of the king's sons." And he said, "Lay them in two heaps at the entrance of the gate until morning." 使者が来て、エヒウに告げ、「人々が王の子供たちの首を持ってきました」と言うと、「あくる朝までそれを門の入口に、ふた山に積んでおけ」と言った。
10 9 So it was, in the morning, that he went out and stood, and said to all the people, "You are righteous. Indeed I conspired against my master and killed him; but who killed all these? 朝になると、彼は出て行って立ち、すべての民に言った、「あなたがたは正しい。主君にそむいて彼を殺したのはわたしです。しかしこのすべての者どもを殺したのはだれですか。
10 10 "Know now that nothing shall fall to the earth of the word of the Lord which the Lord spoke concerning the house of Ahab; for the Lord has done what He spoke by His servant Elijah." これであなたがたは、主がアハブの家について告げられた主の言葉は一つも地に落ちないことを知りなさい。主は、そのしもべエリヤによってお告げになった事をなし遂げられたのです」。
10 11 So Jehu killed all who remained of the house of Ahab in Jezreel, and all his great men and his close acquaintances and his priests, until he left him none remaining. こうしてエヒウは、アハブの家に属する者でエズレルに残っている者をことごとく殺し、またそのすべてのおもだった者、その親しい者およびその祭司たちを殺して、彼に属する者はひとりも残さなかった。
10 12 And he arose and departed and went to Samaria. On the way, at Beth Eked of the Shepherds, さてエヒウは立ってサマリヤへ行ったが、途中、牧者の集まり場で、
10 13 Jehu met with the brothers of Ahaziah king of Judah, and said, "Who are you?" So they answered, "We are the brothers of Ahaziah; we have come down to greet the sons of the king and the sons of the queen mother." ユダの王アハジヤの身内の人々に会い、「あなたがたはどなたですか」と言うと、「わたしたちはアハジヤの身内の者ですが、王の子供たちと、王母の子供たちの安否を問うために下ってきたのです」と答えたので、
10 14 And he said, "Take them alive!" So they took them alive, and killed them at the well of Beth Eked, forty-two men; and he left none of them. エヒウは「彼らをいけどれ」と命じた。そこで彼らをいけどって、集まり場の穴のかたわらで彼ら四十二人をことごとく殺し、ひとりをも残さなかった。
10 15 Now when he departed from there, he met Jehonadab the son of Rechab, coming to meet him; and he greeted him and said to him, "Is your heart right, as my heart is toward your heart?" And Jehonadab answered, "It is." Jehu said, "If it is, give me your hand." So he gave him his hand, and he took him up to him into the chariot. エヒウはそこを立って行ったが、自分を迎えにきたレカブの子ヨナダブに会ったので、彼にあいさつして、「あなたの心は、わたしがあなたに対するように真実ですか」と言うと、ヨナダブは「真実です」と答えた。するとエヒウは「それならば、あなたの手をわたしに伸べなさい」と言ったので、その手を伸べると、彼を引いて自分の車に上らせ、
10 16 Then he said, "Come with me, and see my zeal for the Lord." So they had him ride in his chariot. 「わたしと一緒にきて、わたしが主に熱心なのを見なさい」と言った。そして彼を自分の車に乗せ、
10 17 And when he came to Samaria, he killed all who remained to Ahab in Samaria, till he had destroyed them, according to the word of the Lord which He spoke to Elijah. サマリヤへ行って、アハブに属する者で、サマリヤに残っている者をことごとく殺して、その一族を滅ぼした。主がエリヤにお告げになった言葉のとおりである。
10 18 Then Jehu gathered all the people together, and said to them, "Ahab served Baal a little, Jehu will serve him much. 次いでエヒウは民をことごとく集めて彼らに言った、「アハブは少しばかりバアルに仕えたが、エヒウは大いにこれに仕えるであろう。
10 19 Now therefore, call to me all the prophets of Baal, all his servants, and all his priests. Let no one be missing, for I have a great sacrifice for Baal. Whoever is missing shall not live." But Jehu acted deceptively, with the intent of destroying the worshipers of Baal. それゆえ、今バアルのすべての預言者、すべての礼拝者、すべての祭司をわたしのもとに召しなさい。ひとりもこない者のないようにしなさい。わたしは大いなる犠牲をバアルにささげようとしている。すべてこない者は生かしておかない」。しかしエヒウはバアルの礼拝者たちを滅ぼすために偽ってこうしたのである。
10 20 And Jehu said, "Proclaim a solemn assembly for Baal." So they proclaimed it. そしてエヒウは「バアルのために聖会を催しなさい」と命じたので、彼らはこれを布告した。
10 21 Then Jehu sent throughout all Israel; and all the worshipers of Baal came, so that there was not a man left who did not come. So they came into the temple of Baal, and the temple of Baal was full from one end to the other. エヒウはあまねくイスラエルに人をつかわしたので、バアルの礼拝者たちはことごとく来た。こないで残った者はひとりもなかった。彼らはバアルの宮にはいったので、バアルの宮は端から端までいっぱいになった。
10 22 And he said to the one in charge of the wardrobe, "Bring out vestments for all the worshipers of Baal." So he brought out vestments for them. その時エヒウは衣装をつかさどる者に「祭服を取り出してバアルのすべての礼拝者に与えよ」と言ったので、彼らのために祭服を取り出した。
10 23 Then Jehu and Jehonadab the son of Rechab went into the temple of Baal, and said to the worshipers of Baal, "Search and see that no servants of the Lord are here with you, but only the worshipers of Baal." そしてエヒウはレカブの子ヨナダブと共にバアルの宮に入り、バアルの礼拝者たちに言った、「調べてみて、ここにはただバアルの礼拝者のみで、主のしもべはひとりも、あなたがたのうちにいないようにしなさい」。
10 24 So they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings. Now Jehu had appointed for himself eighty men on the outside, and had said, "If any of the men whom I have brought into your hands escapes, whoever lets him escape, it shall be his life for the life of the other." こうして彼は犠牲と燔祭とをささげるためにはいった。さてエヒウは八十人の者を外に置いて言った、「わたしがあなたがたの手に渡す者をひとりでも逃す者は、自分の命をもってその人の命に換えなければならない」。
10 25 Now it happened, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, that Jehu said to the guard and to the captains, "Go in and kill them; let no one come out!" And they killed them with the edge of the sword; then the guards and the officers threw them out, and went into the inner room of the temple of Baal. こうして燔祭をささげることが終ったとき、エヒウはその侍衛と将校たちに言った、「はいって彼らを殺せ。ひとりも逃がしてはならない」。侍衛と将校たちはつるぎをもって彼らを撃ち殺し、それを投げ出して、バアルの宮の本殿に入り、
10 26 And they brought the sacred pillars out of the temple of Baal and burned them. バアルの宮にある柱の像を取り出して、それを焼いた。
10 27 Then they broke down the sacred pillar of Baal, and tore down the temple of Baal and made it a refuse dump to this day. また彼らはバアルの石柱をこわし、バアルの宮をこわして、かわやとしたが今日まで残っている。
10 28 Thus Jehu destroyed Baal from Israel. このようにエヒウはイスラエルのうちからバアルを一掃した。
10 29 However Jehu did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who had made Israel sin, that is, from the golden calves that were at Bethel and Dan. しかしエヒウはイスラエルに罪を犯させたネバテの子ヤラベアムの罪、すなわちベテルとダンにある金の子牛に仕えることをやめなかった。
10 30 And the Lord said to Jehu, "Because you have done well in doing what is right in My sight, and have done to the house of Ahab all that was in My heart, your sons shall sit on the throne of Israel to the fourth generation." 主はエヒウに言われた、「あなたはわたしの目にかなう事を行うにあたって、よくそれを行い、またわたしの心にあるすべての事をアハブの家にしたので、あなたの子孫は四代までイスラエルの位に座するであろう」。
10 31 But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of the Lord God of Israel with all his heart; for he did not depart from the sins of Jeroboam, who had made Israel sin. しかしエヒウはイスラエルの神、主の律法を心をつくして守り行おうとはせず、イスラエルに罪を犯させたヤラベアムの罪を離れなかった。
10 32 In those days the Lord began to cut off parts of Israel; and Hazael conquered them in all the territory of Israel この時にあたって、主はイスラエルの領地を切り取ることを始められた。すなわちハザエルはイスラエルのすべての領域を侵し、
10 33 from the Jordan eastward: all the land of Gilead--Gad, Reuben, and Manasseh--from Aroer, which is by the River Arnon, including Gilead and Bashan. ヨルダンの東で、ギレアデの全地、カドびと、ルベンびと、マナセびとの地を侵し、アルノン川のほとりにあるアロエルからギレアデとバシャンに及んだ。
10 34 Now the rest of the acts of Jehu, all that he did, and all his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? エヒウのその他の事績と、彼がしたすべての事およびその武勇は、ことごとくイスラエルの王の歴代志の書にしるされているではないか。
10 35 So Jehu rested with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria. Then Jehoahaz his son reigned in his place. エヒウはその先祖たちと共に眠ったので、彼をサマリヤに葬った。その子エホアハズが代って王となった。
10 36 And the period that Jehu reigned over Israel in Samaria was twenty-eight years. エヒウがサマリヤでイスラエルを治めたのは二十八年であった。

11 1 When Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she arose and destroyed all the royal heirs. さてアハジヤの母アタリヤはその子の死んだのを見て、立って王の一族をことごとく滅ぼしたが、
11 2 But Jehosheba, the daughter of King Joram, sister of Ahaziah, took Joash the son of Ahaziah, and stole him away from among the king's sons who were being murdered; and they hid him and his nurse in the bedroom, from Athaliah, so that he was not killed. ヨラム王の娘で、アハジヤの姉妹であるエホシバはアハジヤの子ヨアシを、殺されようとしている王の子たちのうちから盗み取り、彼とそのうばとを寝室に入れて、アタリヤに隠したので、彼はついに殺されなかった。
11 3 So he was hidden with her in the house of the Lord for six years, while Athaliah reigned over the land. ヨアシはうばと共に六年の間、主の宮に隠れていたが、その間アタリヤが国を治めた。
11 4 In the seventh year Jehoiada sent and brought the captains of hundreds--of the bodyguards and the escorts--and brought them into the house of the Lord to him. And he made a covenant with them and took an oath from them in the house of the Lord, and showed them the king's son. 第七年になってエホヤダは人をつかわして、カリびとと近衛兵との大将たちを招きよせ、主の宮にいる自分のもとにこさせ、彼らと契約を結び、主の宮で彼らに誓いをさせて王の子を見せ、
11 5 Then he commanded them, saying, "This is what you shall do: One-third of you who come on duty on the Sabbath shall be keeping watch over the king's house, 命じて言った、「あなたがたのする事はこれです、すなわち、安息日に非番となって王の家を守るあなたがたの三分の一は、
11 6 one-third shall be at the gate of Sur, and one-third at the gate behind the escorts. You shall keep the watch of the house, lest it be broken down. 宮殿を守らなければならない。（他の三分の一はスルの門におり、三分の一は近衛兵のうしろの門におる）。
11 7 The two contingents of you who go off duty on the Sabbath shall keep the watch of the house of the Lord for the king. すべて安息日に当番で主の宮を守るあなたがたの二つの部隊は、
11 8 But you shall surround the king on all sides, every man with his weapons in his hand; and whoever comes within range, let him be put to death. You are to be with the king as he goes out and as he comes in." おのおのの武器を手に取って王のまわりに立たなければならない。すべて列に近よる者は殺されなければならない。あなたがたは王が出る時にも、はいる時にも王と共にいなければならない」。
11 9 So the captains of the hundreds did according to all that Jehoiada the priest commanded. Each of them took his men who were to be on duty on the Sabbath, with those who were going off duty on the Sabbath, and came to Jehoiada the priest. そこでその大将たちは祭司エホヤダがすべて命じたとおりにおこなった。すなわち彼らはおのおの安息日に非番となる者と、安息日に当番となる者とを率いて祭司エホヤダのもとにきたので、
11 10 And the priest gave the captains of hundreds the spears and shields which had belonged to King David, that were in the temple of the Lord. 祭司は主の宮にあるダビデ王のやりと盾を大将たちに渡した。
11 11 Then the escorts stood, every man with his weapons in his hand, all around the king, from the right side of the temple to the left side of the temple, by the altar and the house. 近衛兵はおのおの手に武器をとって主の宮の南側から北側まで、祭壇と宮を取り巻いて立った。
11 12 And he brought out the king's son, put the crown on him, and gave him the Testimony; they made him king and anointed him, and they clapped their hands and said, "Long live the king!" そこでエホヤダは王の子をつれ出して冠をいただかせ、律法の書を渡し、彼を王と宣言して油を注いだので、人々は手を打って「王万歳」と言った。
11 13 Now when Athaliah heard the noise of the escorts and the people, she came to the people in the temple of the Lord. アタリヤは近衛兵と民の声を聞いて、主の宮に入り、民のところへ行って、
11 14 When she looked, there was the king standing by a pillar according to custom; and the leaders and the trumpeters were by the king. All the people of the land were rejoicing and blowing trumpets. So Athaliah tore her clothes and cried out, "Treason! Treason!" 見ると、王は慣例にしたがって柱のかたわらに立ち、王のかたわらには大将たちとラッパ手たちが立ち、また国の民は皆喜んでラッパを吹いていたので、アタリヤはその衣を裂いて、「反逆です、反逆です」と叫んだ。
11 15 And Jehoiada the priest commanded the captains of the hundreds, the officers of the army, and said to them, "Take her outside under guard, and slay with the sword whoever follows her." For the priest had said, "Do not let her be killed in the house of the Lord." その時祭司エホヤダは軍勢を指揮していた大将たちに命じて、「彼女を列の間をとおって出て行かせ、彼女に従う者をつるぎをもって殺しなさい」と言った。これは祭司がさきに「彼女を主の宮で殺してはならない」と言ったからである。
11 16 So they seized her; and she went by way of the horses' entrance into the king's house, and there she was killed. そこで彼らは彼女を捕え、王の家の馬道へ連れて行ったが、彼女はついにそこで殺された。
11 17 Then Jehoiada made a covenant between the Lord, the king, and the people, that they should be the Lord's people, and also between the king and the people. かくてエホヤダは主と王および民との間に、皆主の民となるという契約を立てさせ、また王と民との間にもそれを立てさせた。
11 18 And all the people of the land went to the temple of Baal, and tore it down. They thoroughly broke in pieces its altars and images, and killed Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars. And the priest appointed officers over the house of the Lord. そこで国の民は皆バアルの宮に行って、これをこわし、その祭壇とその像を打ち砕き、バアルの祭司マッタンをその祭壇の前で殺した。そして祭司は主の宮に管理人を置いた。
11 19 Then he took the captains of hundreds, the bodyguards, the escorts, and all the people of the land; and they brought the king down from the house of the Lord, and went by way of the gate of the escorts to the king's house. Then he sat on the throne of the kings. 次いでエホヤダは大将たちと、カリびとと、近衛兵と国のすべての民を率いて、主の宮から王を導き下り、近衛兵の門の道から王の家に入り、王の位に座せしめた。
11 20 So all the people of the land rejoiced; and the city was quiet, for they had slain Athaliah with the sword in the king's house. こうして国の民は皆喜び、町はアタリヤが王の家でつるぎをもって殺されてのち、おだやかになった。
11 21 Jehoash was seven years old when he became king. ヨアシは位についた時七歳であった。

12 1 In the seventh year of Jehu, Jehoash became king, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Zibiah of Beersheba. ヨアシはエヒウの第七年に位につき、エルサレムで四十年の間、世を治めた。その母はベエルシバの出身で、名をヂビアといった。
12 2 Jehoash did what was right in the sight of the Lord all the days in which Jehoiada the priest instructed him. ヨアシは一生の間、主の目にかなう事をおこなった。祭司エホヤダが彼を教えたからである。
12 3 But the high places were not taken away; the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places. しかし高き所は除かなかったので、民はなおその高き所で犠牲をささげ、香をたいた。
12 4 And Jehoash said to the priests, "All the money of the dedicated gifts that are brought into the house of the Lord--each man's census money, each man's assessment money--and all the money that a man purposes in his heart to bring into the house of the Lord, ヨアシは祭司たちに言った、「すべて主の宮に聖別してささげる銀、すなわちおのおのが課せられて、割当にしたがって人々の出す銀、および人々が心から願って主の宮の持ってくる銀は、
12 5 let the priests take it themselves, each from his constituency; and let them repair the damages of the temple, wherever any dilapidation is found." これを祭司たちがおのおのその知る人から受け取り、どこでも主の宮に破れの見える時は、それをもってその破れを繕わなければならない」。
12 6 Now it was so, by the twenty-third year of King Jehoash, that the priests had not repaired the damages of the temple. ところがヨアシ王の二十三年に至るまで、祭司たちは主の宮の破れを繕わなかった。
12 7 So King Jehoash called Jehoiada the priest and the other priests, and said to them, "Why have you not repaired the damages of the temple? Now therefore, do not take more money from your constituency, but deliver it for repairing the damages of the temple." それで、ヨアシ王は祭司エホヤダおよび他の祭司たちを召して言った、「なぜ、あなたがたは主の宮の破れを繕わないのか。あなたがたはもはや知人から銀を受けてはならない。主の宮の破れを繕うためにそれを渡しなさい」。
12 8 And the priests agreed that they would neither receive more money from the people, nor repair the damages of the temple. 祭司たちは重ねて民から銀を受けない事と、主の宮の破れを繕わない事とに同意した。
12 9 Then Jehoiada the priest took a chest, bored a hole in its lid, and set it beside the altar, on the right side as one comes into the house of the Lord; and the priests who kept the door put there all the money brought into the house of the Lord. そこで祭司エホヤダは一つの箱を取り、そのふたに穴をあけて、それを主の宮の入口の右側、祭壇のかたわらに置いた。そして門を守る祭司たちは主の宮にはいってくる銀をことごとくその中に入れた。
12 10 So it was, whenever they saw that there was much money in the chest, that the king's scribe and the high priest came up and put it in bags, and counted the money that was found in the house of the Lord. こうしてその箱の中に銀が多くなったのを見ると、王の書記官と大祭司が上ってきて、主の宮にある銀を数えて袋に詰めた。
12 11 Then they gave the money, which had been apportioned, into the hands of those who did the work, who had the oversight of the house of the Lord; and they paid it out to the carpenters and builders who worked on the house of the Lord, そしてその数えた銀を、工事をつかさどる主の宮の監督者の手にわたしたので、彼らはそれを主の宮に働く木工と建築師に払い、
12 12 and to masons and stonecutters, and for buying timber and hewn stone, to repair the damage of the house of the Lord, and for all that was paid out to repair the temple. 石工および石切りに払い、またそれをもって主の宮の破れを繕う材木と切り石を買い、主の宮を繕うために用いるすべての物のために費した。
12 13 However there were not made for the house of the Lord basins of silver, trimmers, sprinkling-bowls, trumpets, any articles of gold or articles of silver, from the money brought into the house of the Lord. ただし、主の宮にはいってくるその銀をもって主の宮のために銀のたらい、心切りばさみ、鉢、ラッパ、金の器、銀の器などを造ることはしなかった。
12 14 But they gave that to the workmen, and they repaired the house of the Lord with it. ただこれを工事をする者に渡して、それで主の宮を繕わせた。
12 15 Moreover they did not require an account from the men into whose hand they delivered the money to be paid to workmen, for they dealt faithfully. またその銀を渡して工事をする者に払わせた人々と計算することはしなかった。彼らは正直に事をおこなったからである。
12 16 The money from the trespass offerings and the money from the sin offerings was not brought into the house of the Lord. It belonged to the priests. 愆祭の銀と罪祭の銀は主の宮に、はいらないで、祭司に帰した。
12 17 Hazael king of Syria went up and fought against Gath, and took it; then Hazael set his face to go up to Jerusalem. そのころ、スリヤの王ハザエルが上ってきて、ガテを攻めてこれを取った。そしてハザエルがエルサレムに攻め上ろうとして、その顔を向けたとき、
12 18 And Jehoash king of Judah took all the sacred things that his fathers, Jehoshaphat and Jehoram and Ahaziah, kings of Judah, had dedicated, and his own sacred things, and all the gold found in the treasuries of the house of the Lord and in the king's house, and sent them to Hazael king of Syria. Then he went away from Jerusalem. ユダの王ヨアシはその先祖、ユダの王ヨシャパテ、ヨラム、アハジヤが聖別してささげたすべての物、およびヨアシ自身が聖別してささげた物、ならびに主の宮の倉と、主の宮にある金をことごとく取って、スリヤ王のハザエルに贈ったので、ハザエルはエルサレムを離れ去った。
12 19Now the rest of the acts of Joash, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? ヨアシのその他の事績および彼がしたすべての事は、ユダの王の歴代志の書にしるされているではないか。
12 20 And his servants arose and formed a conspiracy, and killed Joash in the house of the Millo, which goes down to Silla. ヨアシの家来たちは立って徒党を結び、シラに下る道にあるミロの家でヨアシを殺した。
12 21 For Jozachar the son of Shimeath and Jehozabad the son of Shomer, his servants, struck him. So he died, and they buried him with his fathers in the City of David. Then Amaziah his son reigned in his place. すなわちその家来シメアテの子ヨザカルと、ショメルの子ヨザバデが彼を撃って殺し、彼をその先祖と同じく、ダビデの町に葬った。その子アマジヤが代って王となった。

13 1 In the twenty-third year of Joash the son of Ahaziah, king of Judah, Jehoahaz the son of Jehu became king over Israel in Samaria, and reigned seventeen years. ユダの王アハジヤの子ヨアシの第二十三年にエヒウの子エホアハズはサマリヤでイスラエルの王となり、十七年世を治めた。
13 2 And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, and followed the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who had made Israel sin. He did not depart from them. 彼は主の目の前に悪を行い、イスラエルに罪を犯させたネバテの子ヤラベアムの罪を行いつづけて、それを離れなかった。
13 3 Then the anger of the Lord was aroused against Israel, and He delivered them into the hand of Hazael king of Syria, and into the hand of Ben-Hadad the son of Hazael, all their days. そこで主はイスラエルに対して怒りを発し、エホアハズの治世の間、絶えずイスラエルをスリヤの王ハザエルの手にわたし、またハザエルの子ベネハダデの手にわたされた。
13 4 So Jehoahaz pleaded with the Lord, and the Lord listened to him; for He saw the oppression of Israel, because the king of Syria oppressed them. しかしエホアハズが主に願い求めたので、主はついにこれを聞きいれられた。スリヤの王によって悩まされたイスラエルの悩みを見られたからである。
13 5 Then the Lord gave Israel a deliverer, so that they escaped from under the hand of the Syrians; and the children of Israel dwelt in their tents as before. それで主がひとりの救助者をイスラエルに賜わったので、イスラエルの人々はスリヤびとの手をのがれ、前のように自分たちの天幕に住むようになった。
13 6Nevertheless they did not depart from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, who had made Israel sin, but walked in them; and the wooden image also remained in Samaria. それにもかかわらず、彼らはイスラエルに罪を犯させたヤラベアムの家の罪を離れず、それを行いつづけた。またアシラの像もサマリヤに立ったままであった。
13 7 For He left of the army of Jehoahaz only fifty horsemen, ten chariots, and ten thousand foot soldiers; for the king of Syria had destroyed them and made them like the dust at threshing. さきにスリヤの王が彼らを滅ぼし、踏み砕くちりのようにしたのでエホアハズの軍勢で残ったものは、ただ騎兵五十人、戦車十両、歩兵一万人のみであった。
13 8 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoahaz, all that he did, and his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? エホアハズその他の事績と、彼がしたすべての事およびその武勇は、イスラエルの王の歴代志の書にしるされているではないか。
13 9 So Jehoahaz rested with his fathers, and they buried him in Samaria. Then Joash his son reigned in his place. エホアハズは先祖たちと共に眠ったので、彼をサマリヤに葬った。その子ヨアシが代って王となった。
13 10 In the thirty-seventh year of Joash king of Judah, Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz became king over Israel in Samaria, and reigned sixteen years. ユダの王ヨアシの第三十七年に、エホアハズの子ヨアシはサマリヤでイスラエルの王となり、十六年世を治めた。
13 11 And he did evil in the sight of the Lord. He did not depart from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel sin, but walked in them. 彼は主の目の前に悪を行い、イスラエルに罪を犯させたネバテの子ヤラベアムのもろもろの罪を離れず、それに歩んだ。

13 13 So Joash rested with his fathers. Then Jeroboam sat on his throne. And Joash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel. ヨアシは先祖たちと共に眠って、ヤラベアムがその位に座した。そしてヨアシはイスラエルの王たちと同じくサマリヤに葬られた。
13 14 Elisha had become sick with the illness of which he would die. Then Joash the king of Israel came down to him, and wept over his face, and said, "O my father, my father, the chariots of Israel and their horsemen!" さてエリシャは死ぬ病気にかかっていたが、イスラエルの王ヨアシは下ってきて彼の顔の上に涙を流し、「わが父よ、わが父よ、イスラエルの戦車よ、その騎兵よ」と言った。
13 15 And Elisha said to him, "Take a bow and some arrows." So he took himself a bow and some arrows. エリシャは彼に「弓と矢を取りなさい」と言ったので、弓と矢を取った。
13 16 Then he said to the king of Israel, "Put your hand on the bow." So he put his hand on it, and Elisha put his hands on the king's hands. エリシャはまたイスラエルの王に「弓に手をかけなさい」と言ったので、手をかけた。するとエリシャは自分の手を王の手の上におき、
13 17 And he said, "Open the east window"; and he opened it. Then Elisha said, "Shoot"; and he shot. And he said, "The arrow of the Lord's deliverance and the arrow of deliverance from Syria; for you must strike the Syrians at Aphek till you have destroyed them." 「東向きの窓をあけなさい」と言ったので、それをあけると、エリシャはまた「射なさい」と言った。彼が射ると、エリシャは言った、「主の救の矢、スリヤに対する救の矢。あなたはアペクでスリヤびとを撃ち破り、彼らを滅ぼしつくすであろう」。
13 18 Then he said, "Take the arrows"; so he took them. And he said to the king of Israel, "Strike the ground"; so he struck three times, and stopped. エリシャはまた「矢を取りなさい」と言ったので、それを取った。エリシャはまたイスラエルの王に「それをもって地を射なさい」と言ったので、三度射てやめた。
13 19 And the man of God was angry with him, and said, "You should have struck five or six times; then you would have struck Syria till you had destroyed it! But now you will strike Syria only three times." すると神の人は怒って言った、「あなたは五度も六度も射るべきであった。そうしたならば、あなたはスリヤを撃ち破り、それを滅ぼしつくすことができたであろう。しかし今あなたはそうしなかったので、スリヤを撃ち破ることはただ三度だけであろう」。
13 20 Then Elisha died, and they buried him. And the raiding bands from Moab invaded the land in the spring of the year. こうしてエリシャは死んで葬られた。さてモアブの略奪隊は年が改まるごとに、国にはいって来るのを常とした。
13 21 So it was, as they were burying a man, that suddenly they spied a band of raiders; and they put the man in the tomb of Elisha; and when the man was let down and touched the bones of Elisha, he revived and stood on his feet. 時に、ひとりの人を葬ろうとする者があったが、略奪隊を見たので、その人をエリシャの墓に投げ入れて去った。その人はエリシャの骨に触れるとすぐ生きかえって立ちあがった。
13 22 And Hazael king of Syria oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz. スリヤの王ハザエルはエホアハズの一生の間、イスラエルを悩ましたが、
13 23 But the Lord was gracious to them, had compassion on them, and regarded them, because of His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not yet destroy them or cast them from His presence. 主はアブラハム、イサク、ヤコブと結ばれた契約のゆえにイスラエルを恵み、これをあわれみ、これを顧みて滅ぼすことを好まず、なおこれをみ前から捨てられなかった。
13 24 Now Hazael king of Syria died. Then Ben-Hadad his son reigned in his place. スリヤの王ハザエルはついに死んで、その子ベネハダデが代って王となった。
13 25 And Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz recaptured from the hand of Ben-Hadad, the son of Hazael, the cities which he had taken out of the hand of Jehoahaz his father by war. Three times Joash defeated him and recaptured the cities of Israel. そこでエホアハズの子ヨアシは、父エホアハズがハザエルに攻め取られた町々を、ハザエルの子ベネハダデの手から取り返した。すなわちヨアシは三度彼を撃ち破って、イスラエルの町々を取り返した。

14 1 In the second year of Joash the son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel, Amaziah the son of Joash, king of Judah, became king. イスラエルの王エホアハズの子ヨアシの第二年に、ユダの王ヨアシの子アマジヤが王となった。
14 2 He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem. 彼は王となった時二十五歳で、二十九年の間エルサレムで世を治めた。その母はエルサレムの出身で、名をエホアダンといった。
14 3 And he did what was right in the sight of the Lord, yet not like his father David; he did everything as his father Joash had done. アマジヤは主の目にかなう事をおこなったが、先祖ダビデのようではなかった。彼はすべての事を父ヨアシがおこなったようにおこなった。
14 4 However the high places were not taken away, and the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places. ただし高き所は除かなかったので、民はなおその高き所で犠牲をささげ、香をたいた。
14 5Now it happened, as soon as the kingdom was established in his hand, that he executed his servants who had murdered his father the king. 彼は国が彼の手のうちに強くなった時、父ヨアシ王を殺害した家来たちを殺したが、
14 6 But the children of the murderers he did not execute, according to what is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, in which the Lord commanded, saying, "Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor shall children be put to death for their fathers; but a person shall be put to death for his own sin." その殺害者の子供たちは殺さなかった。これはモーセの律法の書にしるされている所に従ったのであって、そこに主は命じて「父は子のゆえに殺さるべきではない。子は父のゆえに殺さるべきではない。おのおの自分の罪のゆえに殺さるべきである」と言われている。
14 7 He killed ten thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt, and took Sela by war, and called its name Joktheel to this day. アマジヤはまた塩の谷でエドムびと一万人を殺した。またセラを攻め取って、その名をヨクテルと名づけたが、今日までそのとおりである。
14 8 Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, "Come, let us face one another in battle." そこでアマジヤがエヒウの子エホアハズの子であるイスラエルの王ヨアシに使者をつかわして、「さあ、われわれは互に顔を合わせよう」と言わせたので、
14 9 And Jehoash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, "The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, 'Give your daughter to my son as wife'; and a wild beast that was in Lebanon passed by and trampled the thistle. イスラエルの王ヨアシはユダの王アマジヤに言い送った、「かつてレバノンのいばらがレバノンの香柏に、『あなたの娘をわたしのむすこの妻にください』と言い送ったことがあったが、レバノンの野獣がとおって、そのいばらを踏み倒した。
14 10 You have indeed defeated Edom, and your heart has lifted you up. Glory in that, and stay at home; for why should you meddle with trouble so that you fall--you and Judah with you?" あなたは大いにエドムを撃って、心にたかぶっているが、その栄誉に満足して家にとどまりなさい。何ゆえ、あなたは災をひき起して、自分もユダも共に滅びるような事をするのですか」。
14 11 But Amaziah would not heed. Therefore Jehoash king of Israel went out; so he and Amaziah king of Judah faced one another at Beth Shemesh, which belongs to Judah. しかしアマジヤが聞きいれなかったので、イスラエルの王ヨアシは上ってきた。そこで彼とユダの王アマジヤはユダのベテシメシで互に顔をあわせたが、
14 12And Judah was defeated by Israel, and every man fled to his tent. ユダはイスラエルに敗られて、おのおのその天幕に逃げ帰った。
14 13 Then Jehoash king of Israel captured Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Jehoash, the son of Ahaziah, at Beth Shemesh; and he went to Jerusalem, and broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the Gate of Ephraim to the Corner Gate--four hundred cubits. イスラエルの王ヨアシはアハジヤの子ヨアシの子であるユダの王アマジヤをベテシメシで捕え、エルサレムにきて、エルサレムの城壁をエフライムの門から隅の門まで、おおよそ四百キュビトにわたってこわし、
14 14 And he took all the gold and silver, all the articles that were found in the house of the Lord and in the treasuries of the king's house, and hostages, and returned to Samaria. また主の宮と王の家の倉にある金銀およびもろもろの器をことごとく取り、かつ人質をとってサマリヤに帰った。
14 15 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoash which he did--his might, and how he fought with Amaziah king of Judah--are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? ヨアシのその他の事績と、その武勇および彼がユダの王アマジヤと戦った事は、イスラエルの王の歴代志の書にしるされているではないか。

14 17 Amaziah the son of Joash, king of Judah, lived fifteen years after the death of Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz, king of Israel. ヨアシの子であるユダの王アマジヤは、エホアハズの子であるイスラエルの王ヨアシが死んで後、なお十五年生きながらえた。

14 19 And they formed a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem, and he fled to Lachish; but they sent after him to Lachish and killed him there. 時に人々がエルサレムで徒党を結び、彼に敵対したので、彼はラキシに逃げていったが、その人々はラキシに人をつかわして彼をそこで殺させた。
14 20 Then they brought him on horses, and he was buried at Jerusalem with his fathers in the City of David. 人々は彼を馬に載せて運んできて、エルサレムで彼を先祖たちと共にダビデの町に葬った。
14 21 And all the people of Judah took Azariah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king instead of his father Amaziah. そしてユダの民は皆アザリヤを父アマジヤの代りに王とした。時に年十六歳であった。

15 16 Then from Tirzah, Menahem attacked Tiphsah, all who were there, and its territory. Because they did not surrender, therefore he attacked it. 15 25 Then Pekah the son of Remaliah, an officer of his, conspired against him and killed him in Samaria, in the citadel of the king's house, along with Argob and Arieh; and with him were fifty men of Gilead. 15 29 In the days of Pekah king of Israel, Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria came and took Ijon, Abel Beth Maachah, Janoah, Kedesh, Hazor, Gilead, and Galilee, all the land of Naphtali; and he carried them captive to Assyria. イスラエルの王ペカの世に、アッスリヤの王テグラテピレセルが来て、イヨン、アベル・ベテマアカ、ヤノア、ケデシ、ハゾル、ギレアデ、ガリラヤ、ナフタリの全地を取り、人々をアッスリヤへ捕え移した。
15 30 Then Hoshea the son of Elah led a conspiracy against Pekah the son of Remaliah, and struck and killed him; so he reigned in his place in the twentieth year of Jotham the son of Uzziah. 時にエラの子ホセアは徒党を結んで、レマリヤの子ペカに敵し、彼を撃ち殺し、彼に代って王となった。これはウジヤの子ヨタムの第二十年であった。

15 37 In those days the Lord began to send Rezin king of Syria and Pekah the son of Remaliah against Judah. そのころ、主はスリヤの王レヂンとレマリヤの子ペカをユダに攻めこさせられた。

16 1 In the seventeenth year of Pekah the son of Remaliah, Ahaz the son of Jotham, king of Judah, began to reign. レマリヤの子ペカの第十七年にユダの王ヨタムの子アハズが王となった。
16 2 Ahaz was twenty years old when he became king, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem; and he did not do what was right in the sight of the Lord his God, as his father David had done. アハズは王となった時二十歳で、エルサレムで十六年の間、世を治めたが、その神、主の目にかなう事を先祖ダビデのようには行わなかった。
16 3 But he walked in the way of the kings of Israel; indeed he made his son pass through the fire, according to the abominations of the nations whom the Lord had cast out from before the children of Israel. 彼はイスラエルの王たちの道に歩み、また主がイスラエルの人々の前から追い払われた異邦人の憎むべきおこないにしたがって、自分の子を火に焼いてささげ物とした。
16 4 And he sacrificed and burned incense on the high places, on the hills, and under every green tree. かつ彼は高き所、また丘の上、すべての青木の下で犠牲をささげ、香をたいた。
16 5 Then Rezin king of Syria and Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, came up to Jerusalem to make war; and they besieged Ahaz but could not overcome him. そのころ、スリヤの王レヂンおよびレマリヤの子であるイスラエルの王ペカがエルサレムに攻め上って、アハズを囲んだが、勝つことができなかった。
16 6 At that time Rezin king of Syria captured Elath for Syria, and drove the men of Judah from Elath. Then the Edomites went to Elath, and dwell there to this day. その時エドムの王はエラテを回復してエドムの所領とし、ユダの人々をエラテから追い出した。そしてエドムびとがエラテにきて、そこに住み、今日に至っている。
16 7 So Ahaz sent messengers to Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria, saying, "I am your servant and your son. Come up and save me from the hand of the king of Syria and from the hand of the king of Israel, who rise up against me." そこでアハズは使者をアッスリヤの王テグラテピレセルにつかわして言わせた、「わたしはあなたのしもべ、あなたの子です。スリヤの王とイスラエルの王がわたしを攻め囲んでいます。どうぞ上ってきて、彼らの手からわたしを救い出してください」。
16 8 And Ahaz took the silver and gold that was found in the house of the Lord, and in the treasuries of the king's house, and sent it as a present to the king of Assyria. そしてアハズは主の宮と王の家の倉にある金と銀をとり、これを贈り物としてアッスリヤの王におくったので、
16 9So the king of Assyria heeded him; for the king of Assyria went up against Damascus and took it, carried its people captive to Kir, and killed Rezin. アッスリヤの王は彼の願いを聞きいれた。すなわちアッスリヤの王はダマスコに攻め上って、これを取り、その民をキルに捕え移し、またレヂンを殺した。
16 10 Now King Ahaz went to Damascus to meet Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria, and saw an altar that was at Damascus; and King Ahaz sent to Urijah the priest the design of the altar and its pattern, according to all its workmanship. アハズ王はアッスリヤの王テグラテピレセルに会おうとダマスコへ行ったが、ダマスコにある祭壇を見たので、アハズ王はその祭壇の作りにしたがって、その詳しい図面と、ひな型とを作って、祭司ウリヤに送った。
16 11 Then Urijah the priest built an altar according to all that King Ahaz had sent from Damascus. So Urijah the priest made it before King Ahaz came back from Damascus. そこで祭司ウリヤはアハズ王がダマスコから送ったものにしたがって祭壇を建てた。すなわち祭司ウリヤはアハズ王がダマスコから帰るまでにそのとおりに作った。
16 12 And when the king came back from Damascus, the king saw the altar; and the king approached the altar and made offerings on it. 王はダマスコから帰ってきて、その祭壇を見、祭壇に近づいてその上に登り、
16 13 So he burned his burnt offering and his grain offering; and he poured his drink offering and sprinkled the blood of his peace offerings on the altar. 燔祭と素祭を焼き、灌祭を注ぎ、酬恩祭の血を祭壇にそそぎかけた。
16 14 He also brought the bronze altar which was before the Lord, from the front of the temple--from between the new altar and the house of the Lord--and put it on the north side of the new altar. 彼はまた主の前にあった青銅の祭壇を宮の前から移した。すなわちそれを新しい祭壇と主の宮の間から移して、新しい祭壇の北の方にすえた。
16 15 Then King Ahaz commanded Urijah the priest, saying, "On the great new altar burn the morning burnt offering, the evening grain offering, the king's burnt sacrifice, and his grain offering, with the burnt offering of all the people of the land, their grain offering, and their drink offerings; and sprinkle on it all the blood of the burnt offering and all the blood of the sacrifice. And the bronze altar shall be for me to inquire by." そしてアハズ王は祭司ウリヤに命じて言った、「朝の燔祭と夕の素祭および王の燔祭とその素祭、ならびに国中の民の燔祭とその素祭および灌祭は、この大きな祭壇の上で焼きなさい。また燔祭の血と犠牲の血はすべてこれにそそぎかけなさい。あの青銅の祭壇をわたしは伺いを立てるのに用いよう」。
16 16 Thus did Urijah the priest, according to all that King Ahaz commanded. 祭司ウリヤはアハズ王がすべて命じたとおりにおこなった。
16 17 And King Ahaz cut off the panels of the carts, and removed the lavers from them; and he took down the Sea from the bronze oxen that were under it, and put it on a pavement of stones. またアハズ王は台の鏡板を切り取って、洗盤をその上から移し、また海をその下にある青銅の牛の上からおろして、石の座の上にすえ、
16 18 Also he removed the Sabbath pavilion which they had built in the temple, and he removed the king's outer entrance from the house of the Lord, on account of the king of Assyria. また宮のうちに造られていた安息日用のおおいのある道、および王の用いる外の入口をアッスリヤの王のために主の宮から除いた。

17 3 Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against him; and Hoshea became his vassal, and paid him tribute money. アッスリヤの王シャルマネセルが攻め上ったので、ホセアは彼に隷属して、みつぎを納めたが、
17 4 And the king of Assyria uncovered a conspiracy by Hoshea; for he had sent messengers to So, king of Egypt, and brought no tribute to the king of Assyria, as he had done year by year. Therefore the king of Assyria shut him up, and bound him in prison. アッスリヤの王はホセアがついに自分にそむいたのを知った。それはホセアが使者をエジプトの王ソにつかわし、また年々納めていたみつぎを、アッスリヤの王に納めなかったからである。そこでアッスリヤの王は彼を監禁し、獄屋につないだ。
17 5 Now the king of Assyria went throughout all the land, and went up to Samaria and besieged it for three years. そしてアッスリヤの王は攻め上って国中を侵し、サマリヤに上ってきて三年の間、これを攻め囲んだ。
17 6 In the ninth year of Hoshea, the king of Assyria took Samaria and carried Israel away to Assyria, and placed them in Halah and by the Habor, the River of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes. ホセアの第九年になって、アッスリヤの王はついにサマリヤを取り、イスラエルの人々をアッスリヤに捕えていって、ハラと、ゴザンの川ハボルのほとりと、メデアの町々においた。
17 7 For so it was that the children of Israel had sinned against the Lord their God, who had brought them up out of the land of Egypt, from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and they had feared other gods, この事が起ったのは、イスラエルの人々が、自分たちをエジプトの地から導き上って、エジプトの王パロの手をのがれさせられたその神、主にむかって罪を犯し、他の神々を敬い、
17 8 and had walked in the statutes of the nations whom the Lord had cast out from before the children of Israel, and of the kings of Israel, which they had made. 主がイスラエルの人々の前から追い払われた異邦人のならわしに従って歩み、またイスラエルの王たちが定めたならわしに従って歩んだからである。
17 9 Also the children of Israel secretly did against the Lord their God things that were not right, and they built for themselves high places in all their cities, from watchtower to fortified city. イスラエルの人々はその神、主にむかって正しからぬ事をひそかに行い、見張台から堅固な町に至るまで、すべての町々に高き所を建て、
17 10 They set up for themselves sacred pillars and wooden images on every high hill and under every green tree. またすべての高い丘の上、すべての青木の下に石の柱とアシラ像を立て、
17 11 There they burned incense on all the high places, like the nations whom the Lord had carried away before them; and they did wicked things to provoke the Lord to anger, 主が彼らの前から捕え移された異邦人がしたように、すべての高き所で香をたき、悪事を行って、主を怒らせた。
17 12 for they served idols, of which the Lord had said to them, "You shall not do this thing." また主が彼らに「あなたがたはこの事をしてはならない」と言われたのに偶像に仕えた。
17 13 Yet the Lord testified against Israel and against Judah, by all of His prophets, every seer, saying, "Turn from your evil ways, and keep My commandments and My statutes, according to all the law which I commanded your fathers, and which I sent to you by My servants the prophets." 主はすべての預言者、すべての先見者によってイスラエルとユダを戒め、「翻って、あなたがたの悪い道を離れ、わたしがあなたがたの先祖たちに命じ、またわたしのしもべである預言者たちによってあなたがたに伝えたすべての律法のとおりに、わたしの戒めと定めとを守れ」と仰せられたが、
17 14 Nevertheless they would not hear, but stiffened their necks, like the necks of their fathers, who did not believe in the Lord their God. 彼らは聞きいれず、彼らの先祖たちがその神、主を信じないで、強情であったように、彼らは強情であった。

17 17 And they caused their sons and daughters to pass through the fire, practiced witchcraft and soothsaying, and sold themselves to do evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke Him to anger. またそのむすこ、娘を火に焼いてささげ物とし、占いおよびまじないをなし、主の目の前に悪をおこなうことに身をゆだねて、主を怒らせた。
17 18 Therefore the Lord was very angry with Israel, and removed them from His sight; there was none left but the tribe of Judah alone. それゆえ、主は大いにイスラエルを怒り、彼らをみ前から除かれたので、ユダの部族のほか残った者はなかった。
17 19 Also Judah did not keep the commandments of the Lord their God, but walked in the statutes of Israel which they made. ところがユダもまたその神、主の戒めを守らず、イスラエルが定めたならわしに歩んだので、
17 20 And the Lord rejected all the descendants of Israel, afflicted them, and delivered them into the hand of plunderers, until He had cast them from His sight. 主はイスラエルの子孫をことごとく捨て、彼らを苦しめ、彼らを略奪者の手にわたして、ついに彼らをみ前から打ちすてられた。

17 29 However every nation continued to make gods of its own, and put them in the shrines on the high places which the Samaritans had made, every nation in the cities where they dwelt. しかしその民はおのおの自分の神々を造って、それをサマリヤびとが造った高き所の家に安置した。民は皆住んでいる町々でそのようにおこなった。
17 30The men of Babylon made Succoth Benoth, the men of Cuth made Nergal, the men of Hamath made Ashima, すなわちバビロンの人々はスコテ・ベノテを造り、クタの人々はネルガルを造り、ハマテの人々はアシマを造り、
17 31 and the Avites made Nibhaz and Tartak; and the Sepharvites burned their children in fire to Adrammelech and Anammelech, the gods of Sepharvaim. アワの人々はニブハズとタルタクを造り、セパルワイムびとはその子を火に焼いて、セパルワイムの神アデランメレクおよびアナンメレクにささげた。

17 37 And the statutes, the ordinances, the law, and the commandment which He wrote for you, you shall be careful to observe forever; you shall not fear other gods. またあなたがたのために書きしるされた定めと、おきてと、律法と、戒めとを、慎んで常に守らなければならない。他の神々を敬ってはならない。
17 38And the covenant that I have made with you, you shall not forget, nor shall you fear other gods. わたしがあなたがたと結んだ契約を忘れてはならない。また他の神々を敬ってはならない。
17 39 But the Lord your God you shall fear; and He will deliver you from the hand of all your enemies." ただあなたがたの神、主を敬わなければならない。主はあなたがたをそのすべての敵の手から救い出されるであろう」。
17 40 However they did not obey, but they followed their former rituals. しかし彼らは聞きいれず、かえって先のならわしにしたがっておこなった。

18 1 Now it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea the son of Elah, king of Israel, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz, king of Judah, began to reign. イスラエルの王エラの子ホセアの第三年にユダの王アハズの子ヒゼキヤが王となった。
18 2 He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Abi the daughter of Zechariah. 彼は王となった時二十五歳で、エルサレムで二十九年の間、世を治めた。その母はゼカリヤの娘で、名をアビといった。

18 4 He removed the high places and broke the sacred pillars, cut down the wooden image and broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made; for until those days the children of Israel burned incense to it, and called it Nehushtan. 高き所を除き、石柱をこわし、アシラ像を切り倒し、モーセの造った青銅のへびを打ち砕いた。イスラエルの人々はこの時までそのへびに向かって香をたいていたからである。人々はこれをネホシタンと呼んだ。

18 14 Then Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria at Lachish, saying, "I have done wrong; turn away from me; whatever you impose on me I will pay." 18 16 At that time Hezekiah stripped the gold from the doors of the temple of the Lord, and from the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria. この時ユダの王ヒゼキヤはまた主の神殿の戸および柱から自分が着せた金をはぎ取って、アッスリヤの王に与えた。
18 17 Then the king of Assyria sent the Tartan, the Rabsaris, and the Rabshakeh from Lachish, with a great army against Jerusalem, to King Hezekiah. And they went up and came to Jerusalem. 19 5 So the servants of King Hezekiah came to Isaiah. ヒゼキヤ王の家来たちがイザヤのもとに来たとき、
19 6 And Isaiah said to them, "Thus you shall say to your master, 'Thus says the Lord: "Do not be afraid of the words which you have heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed Me. イザヤは彼らに言った、「あなたがたの主君にこう言いなさい、『主はこう仰せられる、アッスリヤの王の家来たちが、わたしをそしった言葉を聞いて恐れるには及ばない。

19 20 Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, "Thus says the Lord God of Israel: 'Because you have prayed to Me against Sennacherib king of Assyria, I have heard.' その時アモツの子イザヤは人をつかわしてヒゼキヤに言った、「イスラエルの神、主はこう仰せられる、『アッスリヤの王セナケリブについてあなたがわたしに祈ったことは聞いた』。
19 21 This is the word which the Lord has spoken concerning him: 'The virgin, the daughter of Zion, Has despised you, laughed you to scorn; The daughter of Jerusalem Has shaken her head behind your back! 主が彼について語られた言葉はこうである、／『処女であるシオンの娘は／あなたを侮り、あなたをあざける。エルサレムの娘は／あなたのうしろで頭を振る。
19 22'Whom have you reproached and blasphemed? Against whom have you raised your voice, And lifted up your eyes on high? Against the Holy One of Israel. あなたはだれをそしり、だれをののしったのか。あなたはだれにむかって声をあげ、／目を高くあげたのか。イスラエルの聖者にむかってしたのだ。
19 23 By your messengers you have reproached the Lord, And said: "By the multitude of my chariots I have come up to the height of the mountains, To the limits of Lebanon; I will cut down its tall cedars And its choice cypress trees; I will enter the extremity of its borders, To its fruitful forest. あなたは使者をもって主をそしって言った、／「わたしは多くの戦車をひきいて山々の頂にのぼり、／レバノンの奥に行き、／たけの高い香柏と最も良いいとすぎを切り倒し、／またその果の野営地に行き、／その密林にはいった。
19 24 I have dug and drunk strange water, And with the soles of my feet I have dried up All the brooks of defense." わたしは井戸を掘って外国の水を飲んだ。わたしは足の裏で、／エジプトのすべての川を踏みからした」。
19 25 'Did you not hear long ago How I made it, From ancient times that I formed it? Now I have brought it to pass, That you should be For crushing fortified cities into heaps of ruins. あなたは聞かなかったか、／昔わたしがこれを定めたことを。堅固な町々をあなたが荒塚とすることも、／いにしえの日からわたしが計画して／今これをおこなうのだ。
19 26 Therefore their inhabitants had little power; They were dismayed and confounded; They were as the grass of the field And the green herb, As the grass on the housetops And grain blighted before it is grown. そのうちに住む民は力弱くおののき、恥をいだいて、／野の草のように、青菜のようになり、／育たないで枯れる屋根の草のようになった。
19 27 'But I know your dwelling place, Your going out and your coming in, And your rage against Me. わたしはあなたのすわること、出入りすること、／わたしにむかって怒り叫んだことをも知っている。
19 28 Because your rage against Me and your tumult Have come up to My ears, Therefore I will put My hook in your nose And My bridle in your lips, And I will turn you back By the way which you came. あなたがわたしにむかって怒り叫んだことと、／あなたの高慢がわたしの耳にはいったため、／わたしはあなたの鼻に輪をつけ、／あなたの口にくつわをはめて、／あなたをもときた道へ引きもどすであろう』。
19 29 'This shall be a sign to you: You shall eat this year such as grows of itself, And in the second year what springs from the same; Also in the third year sow and reap, Plant vineyards and eat the fruit of them. 『あなたに与えるしるしはこれである。すなわち、ことしは落ち穂からはえたものを食べ、二年目にはまたその落ち穂からはえたものを食べ、三年目には種をまき、刈り入れ、ぶどう畑を作ってその実を食べるであろう。
19 30 And the remnant who have escaped of the house of Judah Shall again take root downward, And bear fruit upward. ユダの家ののがれて残る者は再び下に根を張り、上に実を結ぶであろう。
19 31 For out of Jerusalem shall go a remnant, And those who escape from Mount Zion. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.' すなわち残る者がエルサレムから出てき、のがれた者がシオンの山から出て来るであろう。主の熱心がこれをされるであろう』。
19 32 "Therefore thus says the Lord concerning the king of Assyria: 'He shall not come into this city, Nor shoot an arrow there, Nor come before it with shield, Nor build a siege mound against it. それゆえ、主はアッスリヤの王について、こう仰せられる、『彼はこの町にこない、またここに矢を放たない、盾をもってその前に来ることなく、また塁を築いてこれを攻めることはない。
19 33 By the way that he came, By the same shall he return; And he shall not come into this city,' Says the Lord. 彼は来た道を帰って、この町に、はいることはない。主がこれを言う。
19 34 'For I will defend this city, to save it For My own sake and for My servant David's sake.' " わたしは自分のため、またわたしのしもべダビデのためにこの町を守って、これを救うであろう』」。
19 35 And it came to pass on a certain night that the angel of the Lord went out, and killed in the camp of the Assyrians one hundred and eighty-five thousand; and when people arose early in the morning, there were the corpses--all dead. その夜、主の使が出て、アッスリヤの陣営で十八万五千人を撃ち殺した。人々が朝早く起きて見ると、彼らは皆、死体となっていた。
19 36 So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed and went away, returned home, and remained at Nineveh. アッスリヤの王セナケリブは立ち去り、帰って行ってニネベにいたが、
19 37 Now it came to pass, as he was worshiping in the temple of Nisroch his god, that his sons Adrammelech and Sharezer struck him down with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat. Then Esarhaddon his son reigned in his place. その神ニスロクの神殿で礼拝していた時、その子アデランメレクとシャレゼルが、つるぎをもって彼を殺し、ともにアララテの地へ逃げて行った。そこでその子エサルハドンが代って王となった。

20 1 In those days Hezekiah was sick and near death. And Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, went to him and said to him, "Thus says the Lord: 'Set your house in order, for you shall die, and not live.' " そのころ、ヒゼキヤは病気になって死にかかっていた。アモツの子預言者イザヤは彼のところにきて言った、「主はこう仰せられます、『家の人に遺言をなさい。あなたは死にます。生きながらえることはできません』」。
20 2 Then he turned his face toward the wall, and prayed to the Lord, saying, そこでヒゼキヤは顔を壁に向けて主に祈って言った、
20 3 "Remember now, O Lord, I pray, how I have walked before You in truth and with a loyal heart, and have done what was good in Your sight." And Hezekiah wept bitterly. 「ああ主よ、わたしが真実を真心をもってあなたの前に歩み、あなたの目にかなうことをおこなったのをどうぞ思い起してください」。そしてヒゼキヤは激しく泣いた。
20 4 And it happened, before Isaiah had gone out into the middle court, that the word of the Lord came to him, saying, イザヤがまだ中庭を出ないうちに主の言葉が彼に臨んだ、
20 5 "Return and tell Hezekiah the leader of My people, 'Thus says the Lord, the God of David your father: "I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; surely I will heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of the Lord. 「引き返して、わたしの民の君ヒゼキヤに言いなさい、『あなたの父ダビデの神、主はこう仰せられる、わたしはあなたの祈を聞き、あなたの涙を見た。見よ、わたしはあなたをいやす。三日目にはあなたは主の宮に上るであろう。
20 6 And I will add to your days fifteen years. I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for My own sake, and for the sake of My servant David." ' " かつ、わたしはあなたのよわいを十五年増す。わたしはあなたと、この町とをアッスリヤの王の手から救い、わたしの名のため、またわたしのしもべダビデのためにこの町を守るであろう』」。
20 7 Then Isaiah said, "Take a lump of figs." So they took and laid it on the boil, and he recovered. そしてイザヤは言った、「干しいちじくのひとかたまりを持ってきて、それを腫物につけさせなさい。そうすれば直るでしょう」。
20 8 And Hezekiah said to Isaiah, "What is the sign that the Lord will heal me, and that I shall go up to the house of the Lord the third day?" ヒゼキヤはイザヤに言った、「主がわたしをいやされる事と、三日目にわたしが主の家に上ることについて、どんなしるしがありましょうか」。
20 9 Then Isaiah said, "This is the sign to you from the Lord, that the Lord will do the thing which He has spoken: shall the shadow go forward ten degrees or go backward ten degrees?" イザヤは言った、「主が約束されたことを行われることについては、主からこのしるしを得られるでしょう。すなわち日影が十度進むか、あるいは十度退くかです」。
20 10 And Hezekiah answered, "It is an easy thing for the shadow to go down ten degrees; no, but let the shadow go backward ten degrees." ヒゼキヤは答えた、「日影が十度進むことはたやすい事です。むしろ日影を十度退かせてください」。
20 11 So Isaiah the prophet cried out to the Lord, and He brought the shadow ten degrees backward, by which it had gone down on the sundial of Ahaz. そこで預言者イザヤが主に呼ばわると、アハズの日時計の上に進んだ日影を、十度退かせられた。
20 12 At that time Berodach-Baladan the son of Baladan, king of Babylon, sent letters and a present to Hezekiah, for he heard that Hezekiah had been sick. そのころ、バラダンの子であるバビロンの王メロダクバラダンは、手紙と贈り物を持たせて使節をヒゼキヤにつかわした。これはヒゼキヤが病んでいることを聞いたからである。
20 13 And Hezekiah was attentive to them, and showed them all the house of his treasures--the silver and gold, the spices and precious ointment, and all his armory--all that was found among his treasures. 20 17 'Behold, the days are coming when all that is in your house, and what your fathers have accumulated until this day, shall be carried to Babylon; nothing shall be left,' says the Lord. 『主は言われる、見よ、すべてあなたの家にある物、および、あなたの先祖たちが今日までに積みたくわえた物の、バビロンに運び去られる日が来る。何も残るものはないであろう。
20 18 'And they shall take away some of your sons who will descend from you, whom you will beget; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.' " また、あなたの身から出るあなたの子たちも連れ去られ、バビロンの王の宮殿で宦官となるであろう』」。
20 19 So Hezekiah said to Isaiah, "The word of the Lord which you have spoken is good!" For he said, "Will there not be peace and truth at least in my days?" ヒゼキヤはイザヤに言った、「あなたが言われた主の言葉は結構です」。彼は「せめて自分が世にあるあいだ、平和と安全があれば良いことではなかろうか」と思ったからである。

21 1 Manasseh was twelve years old when he became king, and he reigned fifty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Hephzibah. マナセは十二歳で王となり、五十五年の間、エルサレムで世を治めた。母の名はヘフジバといった。
21 2 And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, according to the abominations of the nations whom the Lord had cast out before the children of Israel. マナセは主がイスラエルの人々の前から追い払われた国々の民の憎むべきおこないにならって、主の目の前に悪をおこなった。
21 3 For he rebuilt the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; he raised up altars for Baal, and made a wooden image, as Ahab king of Israel had done; and he worshiped all the host of heaven and served them. 彼は父ヒゼキヤがこわした高き所を建て直し、またイスラエルの王アハブがしたようにバアルのために祭壇を築き、アシラ像を造り、かつ天の万象を拝んで、これに仕えた。
21 4 He also built altars in the house of the Lord, of which the Lord had said, "In Jerusalem I will put My name." また主の宮のうちに数個の祭壇を築いた。これは主が「わたしの名をエルサレムに置こう」と言われたその宮である。
21 5 And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the Lord. 彼はまた主の宮の二つの庭に天の万象のために祭壇を築いた。
21 6 Also he made his son pass through the fire, practiced soothsaying, used witchcraft, and consulted spiritists and mediums. He did much evil in the sight of the Lord, to provoke Him to anger. またその子を火に焼いてささげ物とし、占いをし、魔術を行い、口寄せと魔法使を用い、主の目の前に多くの悪を行って、主の怒りを引き起した。
21 7 He even set a carved image of Asherah that he had made, in the house of which the Lord had said to David and to Solomon his son, "In this house and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, I will put My name forever; 彼はまたアシラの彫像を作って主の宮に置いた。主はこの宮についてダビデとその子ソロモンに言われたことがある、「わたしはこの宮と、わたしがイスラエルのすべての部族のうちから選んだエルサレムとに、わたしの名を永遠に置く。
21 8and I will not make the feet of Israel wander anymore from the land which I gave their fathers--only if they are careful to do according to all that I have commanded them, and according to all the law that My servant Moses commanded them." もし、彼らがわたしが命じたすべての事、およびわたしのしもべモーセが命じたすべての律法を守り行うならば、イスラエルの足を、わたしが彼らの先祖たちに与えた地から、重ねて迷い出させないであろう」。
21 9 But they paid no attention, and Manasseh seduced them to do more evil than the nations whom the Lord had destroyed before the children of Israel. しかし彼らは聞きいれなかった。マナセが人々をいざなって悪を行ったことは、主がイスラエルの人々の前に滅ぼされた国々の民よりもはなはだしかった。
21 10 And the Lord spoke by His servants the prophets, saying, そこで主はそのしもべである預言者たちによって言われた、
21 11 "Because Manasseh king of Judah has done these abominations (he has acted more wickedly than all the Amorites who were before him, and has also made Judah sin with his idols), 「ユダの王マナセがこれらの憎むべき事を行い、彼の先にあったアモリびとの行ったすべての事よりも悪い事を行い、またその偶像をもってユダに罪を犯させたので、
21 12 therefore thus says the Lord God of Israel: 'Behold, I am bringing such calamity upon Jerusalem and Judah, that whoever hears of it, both his ears will tingle. イスラエルの神、主はこう仰せられる、見よ、わたしはエルサレムとユダに災をくだそうとしている。これを聞く者は、その耳が二つながら鳴るであろう。
21 13 And I will stretch over Jerusalem the measuring line of Samaria and the plummet of the house of Ahab; I will wipe Jerusalem as one wipes a dish, wiping it and turning it upside down. わたしはサマリヤをはかった測りなわと、アハブの家に用いた下げ振りをエルサレムにほどこし、人が皿をぬぐい、これをぬぐって伏せるように、エルサレムをぬぐい去る。
21 14 So I will forsake the remnant of My inheritance and deliver them into the hand of their enemies; and they shall become victims of plunder to all their enemies, わたしは、わたしの嗣業の民の残りを捨て、彼らを敵の手に渡す。彼らはもろもろの敵のえじきとなり、略奪にあうであろう。
21 15 because they have done evil in My sight, and have provoked Me to anger since the day their fathers came out of Egypt, even to this day.' " これは彼らの先祖たちがエジプトを出た日から今日に至るまで、彼らがわたしの目の前に悪を行って、わたしを怒らせたためである」。
21 16 Moreover Manasseh shed very much innocent blood, till he had filled Jerusalem from one end to another, besides his sin by which he made Judah sin, in doing evil in the sight of the Lord. マナセはまた主の目の前に悪を行って、ユダに罪を犯させたその罪のほかに、罪なき者の血を多く流して、エルサレムのこの果から、かの果にまで満たした。
21 17 Now the rest of the acts of Manasseh--all that he did, and the sin that he committed--are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? マナセのその他の事績と、彼がおこなったすべての事およびその犯した罪は、ユダの王の歴代志の書にしるされているではないか。
21 18 So Manasseh rested with his fathers, and was buried in the garden of his own house, in the garden of Uzza. Then his son Amon reigned in his place. マナセは先祖たちと共に眠って、その家の園すなわちウザの園に葬られ、その子アモンが代って王となった。
21 19 Amon was twenty-two years old when he became king, and he reigned two years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Meshullemeth the daughter of Haruz of Jotbah. アモンは王となった時二十二歳であって、エルサレムで二年の間、世を治めた。母はヨテバのハルツの娘で、名をメシュレメテといった。
21 20 And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, as his father Manasseh had done. アモンはその父マナセのおこなったように、主の目の前に悪を行った。
21 21 So he walked in all the ways that his father had walked; and he served the idols that his father had served, and worshiped them. すなわち彼はすべてその父の歩んだ道に歩み、父の仕えた偶像に仕えて、これを拝み、
21 22 He forsook the Lord God of his fathers, and did not walk in the way of the Lord. 先祖たちの神、主を捨てて、主の道に歩まなかった。
21 23 Then the servants of Amon conspired against him, and killed the king in his own house. アモンの家来たちはついに彼に敵して徒党を結び、王をその家で殺したが、

21 26 And he was buried in his tomb in the garden of Uzza. Then Josiah his son reigned in his place. アモンはウザの園にある墓に葬られ、その子ヨシヤが代って王となった。

22 1 Josiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Jedidah the daughter of Adaiah of Bozkath. ヨシヤは八歳で王となり、エルサレムで三十一年の間、世を治めた。母はボヅカテのアダヤの娘で、名をエデダといった。
22 2 And he did what was right in the sight of the Lord, and walked in all the ways of his father David; he did not turn aside to the right hand or to the left. ヨシヤは主の目にかなう事を行い、先祖ダビデの道に歩んで右にも左にも曲らなかった。
22 3 Now it came to pass, in the eighteenth year of King Josiah, that the king sent Shaphan the scribe, the son of Azaliah, the son of Meshullam, to the house of the Lord, saying: ヨシヤ王の第十八年に王はメシュラムの子アザリヤの子である書記官シャパンを主の宮につかわして言った、
22 4 "Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may count the money which has been brought into the house of the Lord, which the doorkeepers have gathered from the people. 「大祭司ヒルキヤのもとへのぼって行って、主に宮にはいってきた銀、すなわち門を守る者が民から集めたものの総額を彼に数えさせ、
22 5 And let them deliver it into the hand of those doing the work, who are the overseers in the house of the Lord; let them give it to those who are in the house of the Lord doing the work, to repair the damages of the house-- それを工事をつかさどる主の宮の監督者の手に渡させ、彼らから主の宮で工事をする者にそれを渡して、宮の破れを繕わせなさい。
22 6 to carpenters and builders and masons--and to buy timber and hewn stone to repair the house. すなわち木工と建築師と石工にそれを渡し、また宮を繕う材木と切り石を買わせなさい。
22 7 However there need be no accounting made with them of the money delivered into their hand, because they deal faithfully." ただし彼らは正直に事を行うから、彼らに渡した銀については彼らと計算するに及ばない」。
22 8 Then Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, "I have found the Book of the Law in the house of the Lord." And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it. その時大祭司ヒルキヤは書記官シャパンに言った、「わたしは主の宮で律法の書を見つけました」。そしてヒルキヤがその書物をシャパンに渡したので、彼はそれを読んだ。

22 11 Now it happened, when the king heard the words of the Book of the Law, that he tore his clothes. 王はその律法の書の言葉を聞くと、その衣を裂いた。

22 13 "Go, inquire of the Lord for me, for the people and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that has been found; for great is the wrath of the Lord that is aroused against us, because our fathers have not obeyed the words of this book, to do according to all that is written concerning us." 「あなたがたは行って、この見つかった書物の言葉について、わたしのため、民のため、またユダ全国のために主に尋ねなさい。われわれの先祖たちがこの書物の言葉に聞き従わず、すべてわれわれについてしるされている事を行わなかったために、主はわれわれにむかって、大いなる怒りを発しておられるからです」。
22 14 So Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam, Achbor, Shaphan, and Asaiah went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe. (She dwelt in Jerusalem in the Second Quarter.) And they spoke with her. そこで祭司ヒルキヤ、アヒカム、アクボル、シャパンおよびアサヤはシャルムの妻である女預言者ホルダのもとへ行った。シャルムはハルハスの子であるテクワの子で、衣装べやを守る者であった。その時ホルダはエルサレムの下町に住んでいた。彼らがホルダに告げたので、

22 17 because they have forsaken Me and burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke Me to anger with all the works of their hands. Therefore My wrath shall be aroused against this place and shall not be quenched.' " ' 彼らがわたしを捨てて他の神々に香をたき、自分たちの手で作ったもろもろの物をもって、わたしを怒らせたからである。それゆえ、わたしはこの所にむかって怒りの火を発する。これは消えることがないであろう』。
22 18 But as for the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the Lord, in this manner you shall speak to him, 'Thus says the Lord God of Israel: "Concerning the words which you have heard-- ただし主に尋ねるために、あなたがたをつかわしたユダの王にはこう言いなさい、『あなたが聞いた言葉についてイスラエルの神、主はこう仰せられます、
22 19 because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before the Lord when you heard what I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants, that they would become a desolation and a curse, and you tore your clothes and wept before Me, I also have heard you," says the Lord. あなたは、わたしがこの所と、ここに住んでいる民にむかって、これは荒れ地となり、のろいとなるであろうと言うのを聞いた時、心に悔い、主の前にへりくだり、衣を裂いてわたしの前に泣いたゆえ、わたしもまたあなたの言うことを聞いたのであると主は言われる。
22 20 Surely, therefore, I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace; and your eyes shall not see all the calamity which I will bring on this place." 23 1 Now the king sent them to gather all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem to him. そこで王は人をつかわしてユダとエルサレムの長老たちをことごとく集めた。
23 2 The king went up to the house of the Lord with all the men of Judah, and with him all the inhabitants of Jerusalem--the priests and the prophets and all the people, both small and great. And he read in their hearing all the words of the Book of the Covenant which had been found in the house of the Lord. そして王はユダのもろもろの人々と、エルサレムのすべての住民および祭司、預言者ならびに大小のすべての民を従えて主の宮にのぼり、主の宮で見つかった契約の書の言葉をことごとく彼らに読み聞かせた。
23 3 Then the king stood by a pillar and made a covenant before the Lord, to follow the Lord and to keep His commandments and His testimonies and His statutes, with all his heart and all his soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. And all the people took a stand for the covenant. 次いで王は柱のかたわらに立って、主の前に契約を立て、主に従って歩み、心をつくし精神をつくして、主の戒めと、あかしと、定めとを守り、この書物にしるされているこの契約の言葉を行うことを誓った。民は皆その契約に加わった。
23 4 And the king commanded Hilkiah the high priest, the priests of the second order, and the doorkeepers, to bring out of the temple of the Lord all the articles that were made for Baal, for Asherah, and for all the host of heaven; and he burned them outside Jerusalem in the fields of Kidron, and carried their ashes to Bethel こうして王は大祭司ヒルキヤと、それに次ぐ祭司たちおよび門を守る者どもに命じて、主の神殿からバアルとアシラと天の万象とのために作ったもろもろの器を取り出させ、エルサレムの外のキデロンの野でそれを焼き、その灰をベテルに持って行かせた。
23 5 Then he removed the idolatrous priests whom the kings of Judah had ordained to burn incense on the high places in the cities of Judah and in the places all around Jerusalem, and those who burned incense to Baal, to the sun, to the moon, to the constellations, and to all the host of heaven. また、ユダの町々とエルサレムの周囲にある高き所で香をたくためにユダの王たちが任命した祭司たちを廃し、またバアルと日と月と星宿と天の万象とに香をたく者どもをも廃した。
23 6 And he brought out the wooden image from the house of the Lord, to the Brook Kidron outside Jerusalem, burned it at the Brook Kidron and ground it to ashes, and threw its ashes on the graves of the common people. 彼はまた主の宮からアシラ像を取り出し、エルサレムの外のキデロン川に持って行って、キデロン川でそれを焼き、それを打ち砕いて粉とし、その粉を民の墓に投げすてた。
23 7 Then he tore down the ritual booths of the perverted persons that were in the house of the Lord, where the women wove hangings for the wooden image. また主の宮にあった神殿男娼の家をこわした。そこは女たちがアシラ像のために掛け幕を織る所であった。
23 8 And he brought all the priests from the cities of Judah, and defiled the high places where the priests had burned incense, from Geba to Beersheba; also he broke down the high places at the gates which were at the entrance of the Gate of Joshua the governor of the city, which were to the left of the city gate. 彼はまたユダの町々から祭司をことごとく召しよせ、また祭司が香をたいたゲバからベエルシバまでの高き所を汚し、また門にある高き所をこわした。これらの高き所は町のつかさヨシュアの門の入口にあり、町の門にはいる人の左にあった。
23 9 Nevertheless the priests of the high places did not come up to the altar of the Lord in Jerusalem, but they ate unleavened bread among their brethren. 高き所の祭司たちはエルサレムで主の祭壇にのぼることをしなかったが、その兄弟たちのうちにあって種入れぬパンを食べた。
23 10 And he defiled Topheth, which is in the Valley of the Son of Hinnom, that no man might make his son or his daughter pass through the fire to Molech. 王はまた、だれもそのむすこ娘を火に焼いて、モレクにささげ物とすることのないように、ベンヒンノムの谷にあるトペテを汚した。
23 11 Then he removed the horses that the kings of Judah had dedicated to the sun, at the entrance to the house of the Lord, by the chamber of Nathan-Melech, the officer who was in the court; and he burned the chariots of the sun with fire. またユダの王たちが太陽にささげて主の宮の門に置いた馬を、境内にある侍従ナタンメレクのへやのかたわらに移し、太陽の車を火で焼いた。
23 12 The altars that were on the roof, the upper chamber of Ahaz, which the kings of Judah had made, and the altars which Manasseh had made in the two courts of the house of the Lord, the king broke down and pulverized there, and threw their dust into the Brook Kidron. また王はユダの王たちがアハズの高殿の屋上に造った祭壇と、マナセが主の宮の二つの庭に造った祭壇とをこわして、それを打ち砕き、砕けたものをキデロン川に投げすてた。
23 13 Then the king defiled the high places that were east of Jerusalem, which were on the south of the Mount of Corruption, which Solomon king of Israel had built for Ashtoreth the abomination of the Sidonians, for Chemosh the abomination of the Moabites, and for Milcom the abomination of the people of Ammon. また王はイスラエルの王ソロモンが昔シドンびとの憎むべき者アシタロテと、モアブびとの憎むべき者ケモシと、アンモンの人々の憎むべき者ミルコムのためにエルサレムの東、滅亡の山の南に築いた高き所を汚した。
23 14 And he broke in pieces the sacred pillars and cut down the wooden images, and filled their places with the bones of men またもろもろの石柱を打ち砕き、アシラ像を切り倒し、人の骨をもってその所を満たした。
23 15 Moreover the altar that was at Bethel, and the high place which Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel sin, had made, both that altar and the high place he broke down; and he burned the high place and crushed it to powder, and burned the wooden image. また、ベテルにある祭壇と、イスラエルに罪を犯させたネバテの子ヤラベアムが造った高き所、すなわちその祭壇と高き所とを彼はこわし、その石を打ち砕いて粉とし、かつアシラ像を焼いた。
23 16 As Josiah turned, he saw the tombs that were there on the mountain. And he sent and took the bones out of the tombs and burned them on the altar, and defiled it according to the word of the Lord which the man of God proclaimed, who proclaimed these words. そしてヨシヤは身をめぐらして山に墓のあるのを見、人をつかわしてその墓から骨を取らせ、それをその祭壇の上で焼いて、それを汚した。昔、神の人が主の言葉としてこの事を呼ばわり告げたが、そのとおりになった。
23 17 Then he said, "What gravestone is this that I see?" So the men of the city told him, "It is the tomb of the man of God who came from Judah and proclaimed these things which you have done against the altar of Bethel." その時ヨシヤは「あそこに見える石碑は何か」と尋ねた。町の人々が彼に「あれはあなたがベテルの祭壇に対して行われたこれらの事を、ユダからきて預言した神の人の墓です」と言ったので、
23 18 And he said, "Let him alone; let no one move his bones." So they let his bones alone, with the bones of the prophet who came from Samaria. 彼は言った、「そのままにして置きなさい。だれもその骨を移してはならない」。それでその骨と、サマリヤからきた預言者の骨には手をつけなかった。
23 19 Now Josiah also took away all the shrines of the high places that were in the cities of Samaria, which the kings of Israel had made to provoke the Lord to anger; and he did to them according to all the deeds he had done in Bethel またイスラエルの王たちがサマリヤの町々に造って、主を怒らせた高き所の家も皆ヨシヤは取り除いて、彼がすべてベテルに行ったようにこれに行った。
23 20 He executed all the priests of the high places who were there, on the altars, and burned men's bones on them; and he returned to Jerusalem. 彼はまた、そこにあった高き所の祭司たちを皆祭壇の上で殺し、人の骨を祭壇の上で焼いた。こうして彼はエルサレムに帰った。
23 21 Then the king commanded all the people, saying, "Keep the Passover to the Lord your God, as it is written in this Book of the Covenant. そして王はすべての民に命じて、「あなたがたはこの契約の書にしるされているように、あなたがたの神、主に過越の祭を執り行いなさい」と言った。
23 22 Such a Passover surely had never been held since the days of the judges who judged Israel, nor in all the days of the kings of Israel and the kings of Judah. さばきづかさがイスラエルをさばいた日からこのかた、またイスラエルの王たちとユダの王たちの世にも、このような過越の祭を執り行ったことはなかったが、
23 23 But in the eighteenth year of King Josiah this Passover was held before the Lord in Jerusalem. ヨシヤ王の第十八年に、エルサレムでこの過越の祭を主に執り行ったのである。
23 24 Moreover Josiah put away those who consulted mediums and spiritists, the household gods and idols, all the abominations that were seen in the land of Judah and in Jerusalem, that he might perform the words of the law which were written in the book that Hilkiah the priest found in the house of the Lord. ヨシヤはまた祭司ヒルキヤが主の宮で見つけた書物にしるされている律法の言葉を確実に行うために、口寄せと占い師と、テラピムと偶像およびユダの地とエルサレムに見られるもろもろの憎むべき者を取り除いた。
23 25 Now before him there was no king like him, who turned to the Lord with all his heart, with all his soul, and with all his might, according to all the Law of Moses; nor after him did any arise like him. ヨシヤのように心をつくし、精神をつくし、力をつくしてモーセのすべての律法にしたがい、主に寄り頼んだ王はヨシヤの先にはなく、またその後にも彼のような者は起らなかった。
23 26 Nevertheless the Lord did not turn from the fierceness of His great wrath, with which His anger was aroused against Judah, because of all the provocations with which Manasseh had provoked Him. けれども主はなおユダにむかって発せられた激しい大いなる怒りをやめられなかった。これはマナセがもろもろの腹だたしい行いをもって主を怒らせたためである。
23 27 And the Lord said, "I will also remove Judah from My sight, as I have removed Israel, and will cast off this city Jerusalem which I have chosen, and the house of which I said, 'My name shall be there.' " それゆえ主は言われた、「わたしはイスラエルを移したように、ユダをもわたしの目の前から移し、わたしが選んだこのエルサレムの町と、わたしの名をそこに置こうと言ったこの宮とを捨てるであろう」。
23 28 Now the rest of the acts of Josiah, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? ヨシヤのその他の事績と、彼が行ったすべての事は、ユダの王の歴代志の書にしるされているではないか。
23 29 In his days Pharaoh Necho king of Egypt went to the aid of the king of Assyria, to the River Euphrates; and King Josiah went against him. And Pharaoh Necho killed him at Megiddo when he confronted him. ヨシヤの世にエジプトの王パロ・ネコが、アッスリヤの王のところへ行こうと、ユフラテ川をさして上ってきたので、ヨシヤ王は彼を迎え撃とうと出て行ったが、パロ・ネコは彼を見るや、メギドにおいて彼を殺した。
23 30 Then his servants moved his body in a chariot from Megiddo, brought him to Jerusalem, and buried him in his own tomb. 23 32 And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his fathers had done. エホアハズは先祖たちがすべて行ったように主の目の前に悪を行ったが、
23 33 Now Pharaoh Necho put him in prison at Riblah in the land of Hamath, that he might not reign in Jerusalem; and he imposed on the land a tribute of one hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold. パロ・ネコは彼をハマテの地のリブラにつないで置いて、エルサレムで世を治めることができないようにした。また銀百タラントと金一タラントのみつぎを国に課した。
23 34 Then Pharaoh Necho made Eliakim the son of Josiah king in place of his father Josiah, and changed his name to Jehoiakim. And Pharaoh took Jehoahaz and went to Egypt, and he died there. そしてパロ・ネコはヨシヤの子エリアキムを父ヨシヤに代って王とならせ、名をエホヤキムと改め、エホアハズをエジプトへ引いて行った。エホアハズはエジプトへ行ってそこで死んだ。
23 35 So Jehoiakim gave the silver and gold to Pharaoh; but he taxed the land to give money according to the command of Pharaoh; he exacted the silver and gold from the people of the land, from every one according to his assessment, to give it to Pharaoh Necho. エホヤキムは金銀をパロに送った。しかし彼はパロの命に従って金を送るために国に税を課し、国の民おのおのからその課税にしたがって金銀をきびしく取り立てて、それをパロ・ネコに送った。
23 36 Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Zebudah the daughter of Pedaiah of Rumah エホヤキムは二十五歳で王となり、エルサレムで十一年の間、世を治めた。母はルマのペダヤの娘で、名をゼビダといった。
23 37 And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his fathers had done. エホヤキムは先祖たちがすべて行ったように主の目の前に悪を行った。

24 1 In his days Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up, and Jehoiakim became his vassal for three years. Then he turned and rebelled against him. エホヤキムの世にバビロンの王ネブカデネザルが上ってきたので、エホヤキムは彼に隷属して三年を経たが、ついに翻って彼にそむいた。
24 2 And the Lord sent against him raiding bands of Chaldeans, bands of Syrians, bands of Moabites, and bands of the people of Ammon; He sent them against Judah to destroy it, according to the word of the Lord which He had spoken by His servants the prophets. 主はカルデヤびとの略奪隊、スリヤびとの略奪隊、モアブびとの略奪隊、アンモンびとの略奪隊をつかわしてエホヤキムを攻められた。すなわちユダを攻め、これを滅ぼすために彼らをつかわされた。主がそのしもべである預言者たちによって語られた言葉のとおりである。
24 3 Surely at the commandment of the Lord this came upon Judah, to remove them from His sight because of the sins of Manasseh, according to all that he had done, これは全く主の命によってユダに臨んだもので、ユダを主の目の前から払い除くためであった。すなわちマナセがすべておこなったその罪のため、
24 4 and also because of the innocent blood that he had shed; for he had filled Jerusalem with innocent blood, which the Lord would not pardon. また彼が罪なき人の血を流し、罪なき人の血をエルサレムに満たしたためであって、主はその罪をゆるそうとはされなかった。
24 5 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? エホヤキムのその他の事績と、彼がおこなったすべての事は、ユダの王の歴代志の書にしるされているではないか。
24 6 So Jehoiakim rested with his fathers. Then Jehoiachin his son reigned in his place. エホヤキムは先祖たちとともに眠り、その子エホヤキンが代って王となった。
24 7 And the king of Egypt did not come out of his land anymore, for the king of Babylon had taken all that belonged to the king of Egypt from the Brook of Egypt to the River Euphrates. エジプトの王は再びその国から出てこなかった。バビロンの王がエジプトの川からユフラテ川まで、すべてエジプトの王に属するものを取ったからである。
24 8Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem three months. His mother's name was Nehushta the daughter of Elnathan of Jerusalem. エホヤキンは王となった時十八歳で、エルサレムで三か月の間、世を治めた。母はエルサレムのエルナタンの娘で、名をネホシタといった。
24 9 And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his father had done. エホヤキンはすべてその父がおこなったように主の目の前に悪を行った。
24 10 At that time the servants of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came up against Jerusalem, and the city was besieged. そのころ、バビロンの王ネブカデネザルの家来たちはエルサレムに攻め上って、町を囲んだ。
24 11 And Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came against the city, as his servants were besieging it. その家来たちが町を囲んでいたとき、バビロンの王ネブカデネザルもまた町に攻めてきた。
24 12 Then Jehoiachin king of Judah, his mother, his servants, his princes, and his officers went out to the king of Babylon; and the king of Babylon, in the eighth year of his reign, took him prisoner. ユダの王エホヤキンはその母、その家来、そのつかさたち、および侍従たちと共に出て、バビロンの王に降服したので、バビロンの王は彼を捕虜とした。これはネブカデネザルの治世の第八年であった。
24 13 And he carried out from there all the treasures of the house of the Lord and the treasures of the king's house, and he cut in pieces all the articles of gold which Solomon king of Israel had made in the temple of the Lord, as the Lord had said. 彼はまた主の宮のもろもろの宝物および王の家の宝物をことごとく持ち出し、イスラエルの王ソロモンが造って主の神殿に置いたもろもろの金の器を切りこわした。主が言われたとおりである。
24 14 Also he carried into captivity all Jerusalem: all the captains and all the mighty men of valor, ten thousand captives, and all the craftsmen and smiths. None remained except the poorest people of the land. 彼はまたエルサレムのすべての市民、およびすべてのつかさとすべての勇士、ならびにすべての木工と鍛冶一万人を捕えて行った。残った者は国の民の貧しい者のみであった。
24 15 And he carried Jehoiachin captive to Babylon. The king's mother, the king's wives, his officers, and the mighty of the land he carried into captivity from Jerusalem to Babylon. さらに彼はエホヤキンをバビロンに捕えて行き、また王の母、王の妻たち、および侍従と国のうちのおもな人々をも、エルサレムからバビロンへ捕えて行った。
24 16 All the valiant men, seven thousand, and craftsmen and smiths, one thousand, all who were strong and fit for war, these the king of Babylon brought captive to Babylon. またバビロンの王はすべて勇敢な者七千人、木工と鍛冶一千人ならびに強くて良く戦う者をみな捕えてバビロンへ連れて行った。
24 17 Then the king of Babylon made Mattaniah, Jehoiachin's uncle, king in his place, and changed his name to Zedekiah. そしてバビロンの王はエホヤキンの父の兄弟マッタニヤを王としてエホヤキンに代え、名をゼデキヤと改めた。
24 18 Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he became king, and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Hamutal the daughter of Jeremiah of Libnah. ゼデキヤは二十一歳で王となり、エルサレムで十一年の間、世を治めた。母はリブナのエレミヤの娘で、名をハムタルといった。

24 20 For because of the anger of the Lord this happened in Jerusalem and Judah, that He finally cast them out from His presence. Then Zedekiah rebelled against the king of Babylon. エルサレムとユダにこのような事の起ったのは主の怒りによるので、主はついに彼らをみ前から払いすてられた。さてゼデキヤはバビロンの王にそむいた。
列王記下 2 Kings 25 25
25 1 Now it came to pass in the ninth year of his reign, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and all his army came against Jerusalem and encamped against it; and they built a siege wall against it all around. そこでゼデキヤの治世の第九年の十月十日に、バビロンの王ネブカデネザルはもろもろの軍勢を率い、エルサレムにきて、これにむかって陣を張り、周囲にとりでを築いてこれを攻めた。
25 2 So the city was besieged until the eleventh year of King Zedekiah. こうして町は囲まれて、ゼデキヤ王の第十一年にまで及んだが、
25 3 By the ninth day of the fourth month the famine had become so severe in the city that there was no food for the people of the land. その四月九日になって、町のうちにききんが激しくなり、その地の民に食物がなくなった。
25 4 Then the city wall was broken through, and all the men of war fled at night by way of the gate between two walls, which was by the king's garden, even though the Chaldeans were still encamped all around against the city. And the king went by way of the plain. 町の一角がついに破れたので、王はすべての兵士とともに、王の園のかたわらにある二つの城壁のあいだの門の道から夜のうちに逃げ出して、カルデヤびとが町を囲んでいる間に、アラバの方へ落ち延びた。
25 5 But the army of the Chaldeans pursued the king, and they overtook him in the plains of Jericho. All his army was scattered from him. しかしカルデヤびとの軍勢は王を追い、エリコの平地で彼に追いついた。彼の軍勢はみな彼を離れて散り去ったので、
25 6 So they took the king and brought him up to the king of Babylon at Riblah, and they pronounced judgment on him. カルデヤびとは王を捕え、彼をリブラにいるバビロンの王のもとへ引いていって彼の罪を定め、
25 7Then they killed the sons of Zedekiah before his eyes, put out the eyes of Zedekiah, bound him with bronze fetters, and took him to Babylon. ゼデキヤの子たちをゼデキヤの目の前で殺し、ゼデキヤの目をえぐり、足かせをかけてバビロンへ連れて行った。
25 8 And in the fifth month, on the seventh day of the month (which was the nineteenth year of King Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon), Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, a servant of the king of Babylon, came to Jerusalem. バビロンの王ネブカデネザルの第十九年の五月七日に、バビロンの王の臣、侍衛の長ネブザラダンがエルサレムにきて、
25 9 He burned the house of the Lord and the king's house; all the houses of Jerusalem, that is, all the houses of the great, he burned with fire. 主の宮と王の家とエルサレムのすべての家を焼いた。すなわち火をもってすべての大きな家を焼いた。
25 10 And all the army of the Chaldeans who were with the captain of the guard broke down the walls of Jerusalem all around. また侍衛の長と共にいたカルデヤびとのすべての軍勢はエルサレムの周囲の城壁を破壊した。
25 11Then Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard carried away captive the rest of the people who remained in the city and the defectors who had deserted to the king of Babylon, with the rest of the multitude. そして侍衛の長ネブザラダンは、町に残された民およびバビロン王に降服した者と残りの群衆を捕え移した。
25 12 But the captain of the guard left some of the poor of the land as vinedressers and farmers. ただし侍衛の長はその地の貧しい者を残して、ぶどうを作る者とし、農夫とした。
25 13 The bronze pillars that were in the house of the Lord, and the carts and the bronze Sea that were in the house of the Lord, the Chaldeans broke in pieces, and carried their bronze to Babylon. カルデヤびとはまた主の宮の青銅の柱と、主の宮の洗盤の台と、青銅の海を砕いて、その青銅をバビロンに運び、
25 14 They also took away the pots, the shovels, the trimmers, the spoons, and all the bronze utensils with which the priests ministered. またつぼと、十能と、心切りばさみと、香を盛る皿およびすべて神殿の務に用いる青銅の器、
25 15 The firepans and the basins, the things of solid gold and solid silver, the captain of the guard took away. また心取り皿と鉢を取り去った。侍衛の長はまた金で作った物と銀で作った物を取り去った。
25 16 The two pillars, one Sea, and the carts, which Solomon had made for the house of the Lord, the bronze of all these articles was beyond measure. ソロモンが主の宮のために造った二つの柱と、一つの海と洗盤の台など、これらのもろもろの器の青銅の重さは量ることができなかった。
25 17 The height of one pillar was eighteen cubits, and the capital on it was of bronze. The height of the capital was three cubits, and the network and pomegranates all around the capital were all of bronze. The second pillar was the same, with a network. 一つの柱の高さは十八キュビトで、その上に青銅の柱頭があり、柱頭の高さは三キュビトで、柱頭の周囲に網細工とざくろがあって、みな青銅であった。他の柱もその網細工もこれと同じであった。
25 18And the captain of the guard took Seraiah the chief priest, Zephaniah the second priest, and the three doorkeepers. 侍衛の長は祭司長セラヤと次席の祭司ゼパニヤと三人の門を守る者を捕え、
25 19 He also took out of the city an officer who had charge of the men of war, five men of the king's close associates who were found in the city, the chief recruiting officer of the army, who mustered the people of the land, and sixty men of the people of the land who were found in the city. また兵士をつかさどるひとりの役人と、王の前にはべる者のうち、町で見つかった者五人と、その地の民を募った軍勢の長の書記官と、町で見つかったその地の民六十人を町から捕え去った。
25 20 So Nebuzaradan, captain of the guard, took these and brought them to the king of Babylon at Riblah. 侍衛の長ネブザラダンは彼らを捕えて、リブラにいるバビロンの王のもとへ連れて行ったので、
25 21 Then the king of Babylon struck them and put them to death at Riblah in the land of Hamath. Thus Judah was carried away captive from its own land. バビロンの王はハマテの地のリブラで彼らを撃ち殺した。このようにしてユダはその地から捕え移された。
25 22 Then he made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, governor over the people who remained in the land of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had left. さてバビロンの王ネブカデネザルはユダの地に残してとどまらせた民の上に、シャパンの子アヒカムの子であるゲダリヤを立てて総督とした。
25 23 Now when all the captains of the armies, they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah governor, they came to Gedaliah at Mizpah--Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, Johanan the son of Careah, Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth the Netophathite, and Jaazaniah the son of a Maachathite, they and their men. 時に軍勢の長たちおよびその部下の人々は、バビロンの王がゲダリヤを総督としたことを聞いて、ミヅパにいるゲダリヤのもとにきた。すなわちネタニヤの子イシマエル、カレヤの子ヨハナン、ネトパびとタンホメテの子セラヤ、マアカびとの子ヤザニヤおよびその部下の人々がゲダリヤのもとにきた。
25 24 And Gedaliah took an oath before them and their men, and said to them, "Do not be afraid of the servants of the Chaldeans. Dwell in the land and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you." ゲダリヤは彼らとその部下の人々に誓って言った、「あなたがたはカルデヤびとのしもべとなることを恐れてはならない。この地に住んで、バビロンの王に仕えなさい。そうすればあなたがたは幸福を得るでしょう」。
25 25 But it happened in the seventh month that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, the son of Elishama, of the royal family, came with ten men and struck and killed Gedaliah, the Jews, as well as the Chaldeans who were with him at Mizpah. ところが七月になって、王の血統のエリシャマの子であるネタニヤの子イシマエルは十人の者と共にきて、ゲダリヤを撃ち殺し、また彼と共にミヅパにいたユダヤ人と、カルデヤびとを殺した。
25 26 And all the people, small and great, and the captains of the armies, arose and went to Egypt; for they were afraid of the Chaldeans. そのため、大小の民および軍勢の長たちは、みな立ってエジプトへ行った。彼らはカルデヤびとを恐れたからである。
25 27 Now it came to pass in the thirty-seventh year of the captivity of Jehoiachin king of Judah, in the twelfth month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, that Evil-Merodach king of Babylon, in the year that he began to reign, released Jehoiachin king of Judah from prison. ユダの王エホヤキンが捕え移されて後三十七年の十二月二十七日、すなわちバビロンの王エビルメロダクの治世の第一年に、王はユダの王エホヤキンを獄屋から出して
25 28 He spoke kindly to him, and gave him a more prominent seat than those of the kings who were with him in Babylon. ねんごろに彼を慰め、その位を彼と共にバビロンにいる王たちの位よりも高くした。
25 29 So Jehoiachin changed from his prison garments, and he ate bread regularly before the king all the days of his life. こうしてエホヤキンはその獄屋の衣を脱ぎ、一生の間、常に王の前で食事した。
25 30 And as for his provisions, there was a regular ration given him by the king, a portion for each day, all the days of his life. 彼は一生の間、たえず日々の分を王から賜わって、その食物とした。
