1 1 Now King David was old, advanced in years; and they put covers on him, but he could not get warm. ダビデ王は年がすすんで老い、夜着を着せても暖まらなかったので、
1 2 Therefore his servants said to him, "Let a young woman, a virgin, be sought for our lord the king, and let her stand before the king, and let her care for him; and let her lie in your bosom, that our lord the king may be warm." その家来たちは彼に言った、「王わが主のために、ひとりの若いおとめを捜し求めて王にはべらせ、王の付添いとし、あなたのふところに寝て、王わが主を暖めさせましょう」。
1 3 So they sought for a lovely young woman throughout all the territory of Israel, and found Abishag the Shunammite, and brought her to the king. そして彼らはあまねくイスラエルの領土に美しいおとめを捜し求めて、シュナミびとアビシャグを得、王のもとに連れてきた。
1 4 The young woman was very lovely; and she cared for the king, and served him; but the king did not know her. おとめは非常に美しく、王の付添いとなって王に仕えたが、王は彼女を知ることがなかった。
1 5 Then Adonijah the son of Haggith exalted himself, saying, "I will be king"; and he prepared for himself chariots and horsemen, and fifty men to run before him. さてハギテの子アドニヤは高ぶって、「わたしは王となろう」と言い、自分のために戦車と騎兵および自分の前に駆ける者五十人を備えた。
1 6 (And his father had not rebuked him at any time by saying, "Why have you done so?" He was also very good-looking. His mother had borne him after Absalom.) 彼の父は彼が生れてこのかた一度も「なぜ、そのような事をするのか」と言って彼をたしなめたことがなかった。アドニヤもまた非常に姿の良い人であって、アブサロムの次に生れた者である。
1 7 Then he conferred with Joab the son of Zeruiah and with Abiathar the priest, and they followed and helped Adonijah. 彼がゼルヤの子ヨアブと祭司アビヤタルとに相談したので、彼らはアドニヤに従って彼を助けた。
1 8 But Zadok the priest, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, Nathan the prophet, Shimei, Rei, and the mighty men who belonged to David were not with Adonijah. しかし祭司ザドクと、エホヤダの子ベナヤと、預言者ナタンおよびシメイとレイ、ならびにダビデの勇士たちはアドニヤに従わなかった。
1 9 And Adonijah sacrificed sheep and oxen and fattened cattle by the stone of Zoheleth, which is by En Rogel; he also invited all his brothers, the king's sons, and all the men of Judah, the king's servants. アドニヤはエンロゲルのほとりにある「へびの石」のかたわらで、羊と牛と肥えた家畜をほふって、王の子である自分の兄弟たち、および王の家来であるユダの人々をことごとく招いた。
1 10 But he did not invite Nathan the prophet, Benaiah, the mighty men, or Solomon his brother. しかし預言者ナタンと、ベナヤと、勇士たちと、自分の兄弟ソロモンとは招かなかった。
1 11 So Nathan spoke to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, saying, "Have you not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith has become king, and David our lord does not know it? 時にナタンはソロモンの母バテシバに言った、「ハギテの子アドニヤが王となったのをお聞きになりませんでしたか。われわれの主ダビデはそれをごぞんじないのです。
1 12Come, please, let me now give you advice, that you may save your own life and the life of your son Solomon. それでいま、あなたに計りごとを授けて、あなたの命と、あなたの子ソロモンの命を救うようにいたしましょう。
1 13 Go immediately to King David and say to him, 'Did you not, my lord, O king, swear to your maidservant, saying, "Assuredly your son Solomon shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne"? Why then has Adonijah become king?' あなたはすぐダビデ王のところへ行って、『王わが主よ、あなたは、はしために誓って、おまえの子ソロモンが、わたしに次いで王となり、わたしの位に座するであろうと言われたではありませんか。そうであるのに、どうしてアドニヤが王となったのですか』と言いなさい。
1 14 Then, while you are still talking there with the king, I also will come in after you and confirm your words." あなたがなお王と話しておられる間に、わたしもまた、あなたのあとから、はいって行って、あなたの言葉を確認しましょう」。
1 15 So Bathsheba went into the chamber to the king. (Now the king was very old, and Abishag the Shunammite was serving the king.) そこでバテシバは寝室にはいって王の所へ行った。（王は非常に老いて、シュナミびとアビシャグが王に仕えていた）。
1 16 And Bathsheba bowed and did homage to the king. Then the king said, "What is your wish?" バテシバは身をかがめて王を拝した。王は言った、「何の用か」。
1 17 Then she said to him, "My lord, you swore by the Lord your God to your maidservant, saying, 'Assuredly Solomon your son shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne.' 彼女は王に言った、「わが主よ、あなたは、あなたの神、主をさして、はしために誓い、『おまえの子ソロモンがわたしに次いで王となり、わたしの位に座するであろう』と言われました。
1 18 So now, look! Adonijah has become king; and now, my lord the king, you do not know about it. そうであるのに、ごらんなさい、今アドニヤが王となりました。王わが主よ、あなたはそれをごぞんじないのです。
1 19 He has sacrificed oxen and fattened cattle and sheep in abundance, and has invited all the sons of the king, Abiathar the priest, and Joab the commander of the army; but Solomon your servant he has not invited. 彼は牛と肥えた家畜と羊をたくさんほふって、王の子たち、および祭司アビヤタルと、軍の長ヨアブを招きましたが、あなたのしもべソロモンは招きませんでした。
1 20 And as for you, my lord, O king, the eyes of all Israel are on you, that you should tell them who will sit on the throne of my lord the king after him. 王わが主よ、イスラエルのすべての目はあなたに注がれ、だれがあなたに次いで、王わが主の位に座すべきかを告げられるのを望んでいます。
1 21 Otherwise it will happen, when my lord the king rests with his fathers, that I and my son Solomon will be counted as offenders." 王わが主が先祖と共に眠られるとき、わたしと、わたしの子ソロモンは謀叛人とみなされるでしょう」。
1 22 And just then, while she was still talking with the king, Nathan the prophet also came in. バテシバがなお王と話しているうちに、預言者ナタンがはいってきた。
1 23 So they told the king, saying, "Here is Nathan the prophet." And when he came in before the king, he bowed down before the king with his face to the ground. 人々は王に告げて、「預言者ナタンがここにおります」と言った。彼は王の前にはいり、地に伏して王を拝した。
1 24 And Nathan said, "My lord, O king, have you said, 'Adonijah shall reign after me, and he shall sit on my throne'? そしてナタンは言った、「王わが主よ、あなたは、『アドニヤがわたしに次いで王となり、わたしの位に座するであろう』と仰せられましたか。
1 25 For he has gone down today, and has sacrificed oxen and fattened cattle and sheep in abundance, and has invited all the king's sons, and the commanders of the army, and Abiathar the priest; and look! They are eating and drinking before him; and they say, 'Long live King Adonijah!' 彼はきょう下っていって、牛と、肥えた家畜と羊をたくさんほふって、王の子たちと、軍の長ヨアブと、祭司アビヤタルを招きました。彼らはアドニヤの前で食い飲みして、『アドニヤ万歳』と言いました。
1 26 But he has not invited me--me your servant--nor Zadok the priest, nor Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, nor your servant Solomon. しかし、あなたのしもべであるわたしと、祭司ザドクと、エホヤダの子ベナヤと、あなたのしもべソロモンを招きませんでした。
1 27 Has this thing been done by my lord the king, and you have not told your servant who should sit on the throne of my lord the king after him?" この事は王わが主がさせられた事ですか。あなたはしもべたちに、だれがあなたに次いで王わが主の位に座すべきかを告げられませんでした」。
1 28 Then King David answered and said, "Call Bathsheba to me." So she came into the king's presence and stood before the king. ダビデ王は答えて言った、「バテシバをわたしのところに呼びなさい」。彼女は王の前にはいってきて、王の前に立った。
1 29 And the king took an oath and said, "As the Lord lives, who has redeemed my life from every distress, すると王は誓って言った、「わたしの命をすべての苦難から救われた主は生きておられる。
1 30 just as I swore to you by the Lord God of Israel, saying, 'Assuredly Solomon your son shall be king after me, and he shall sit on my throne in my place,' so I certainly will do this day." わたしがイスラエルの神、主をさしてあなたに誓い、『あなたの子ソロモンがわたしに次いで王となり、わたしに代って、わたしの位に座するであろう』と言ったように、わたしはきょう、そのようにしよう」。
1 31 Then Bathsheba bowed with her face to the earth, and paid homage to the king, and said, "Let my lord King David live forever!" そこでバテシバは身をかがめ、地に伏して王を拝し、「わが主ダビデ王が、とこしえに生きながらえられますように」と言った。
1 32 And King David said, "Call to me Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada." So they came before the king. ダビデは言った、「祭司ザドクと、預言者ナタンおよびエホヤダの子ベナヤをわたしの所に呼びなさい」。やがて彼らは王の前にきた。
1 33 The king also said to them, "Take with you the servants of your lord, and have Solomon my son ride on my own mule, and take him down to Gihon. 王は彼らに言った、「あなたがたの主君の家来たちを連れ、わが子ソロモンをわたしの騾馬に乗せ、彼を導いてギホンに下り、
1 34 There let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him king over Israel; and blow the horn, and say, 'Long live King Solomon!' その所で祭司ザドクと預言者ナタンは彼に油を注いでイスラエルの王としなさい。そしてラッパを吹いて、『ソロモン王万歳』と言いなさい。
1 35 Then you shall come up after him, and he shall come and sit on my throne, and he shall be king in my place. For I have appointed him to be ruler over Israel and Judah." それから、あなたがたは彼に従って上ってきなさい。彼はきて、わたしの位に座し、わたしに代って王となるであろう。わたしは彼を立ててイスラエルとユダの上に主君とする」。
1 36 Benaiah the son of Jehoiada answered the king and said, "Amen! May the Lord God of my lord the king say so too. エホヤダの子ベナヤは王に答えて言った、「アァメン、願わくは、王わが主君の神、主もまたそう仰せられますように。
1 37 As the Lord has been with my lord the king, even so may He be with Solomon, and make his throne greater than the throne of my lord King David." 願わくは、主が王わが主君と共におられたように、ソロモンと共におられて、その位をわが主君ダビデ王の位よりも大きくせられますように」。
1 38 So Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the Cherethites, and the Pelethites went down and had Solomon ride on King David's mule, and took him to Gihon. そこで祭司ザドクと預言者ナタンおよびエホヤダの子ベナヤ、ならびにケレテびとと、ペレテびとは下って行って、ソロモンをダビデ王の騾馬に乗せ、彼をギホンに導いて行った。
1 39 Then Zadok the priest took a horn of oil from the tabernacle and anointed Solomon. And they blew the horn, and all the people said, "Long live King Solomon!" 祭司ザドクは幕屋から油の角を取ってきて、ソロモンに油を注いだ。そしてラッパを吹き鳴らし、民は皆「ソロモン王万歳」と言った。
1 40 And all the people went up after him; and the people played the flutes and rejoiced with great joy, so that the earth seemed to split with their sound. 民はみな彼に従って上り、笛を吹いて大いに喜び祝った。地は彼らの声で裂けるばかりであった。
1 41 Now Adonijah and all the guests who were with him heard it as they finished eating. And when Joab heard the sound of the horn, he said, "Why is the city in such a noisy uproar?" アドニヤおよび彼と共にいた客たちは皆食事を終ったとき、これを聞いた。ヨアブはラッパの音を聞いて言った、「町の中のあの騒ぎは何か」。
1 42While he was still speaking, there came Jonathan, the son of Abiathar the priest. And Adonijah said to him, "Come in, for you are a prominent man, and bring good news." 彼の言葉のなお終らないうちに、そこへ祭司アビヤタルの子ヨナタンがきたので、アドニヤは彼に言った、「はいりなさい。あなたは勇敢な人で、よい知らせを持ってきたのでしょう」。
1 43Then Jonathan answered and said to Adonijah, "No! Our lord King David has made Solomon king. ヨナタンは答えてアドニヤに言った、「いいえ、主君ダビデ王はソロモンを王とせられました。
1 44 The king has sent with him Zadok the priest, Nathan the prophet, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the Cherethites, and the Pelethites; and they have made him ride on the king's mule. 王は祭司ザドクと預言者ナタンおよびエホヤダの子ベナヤ、ならびにケレテびとと、ペレテびとをソロモンと共につかわされたので、彼らはソロモンを王の騾馬に乗せて行き、
1 45 So Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet have anointed him king at Gihon; and they have gone up from there rejoicing, so that the city is in an uproar. This is the noise that you have heard. 祭司ザドクと預言者ナタンはギホンで彼に油を注いで王としました。そして彼らがそこから喜んで上って来るので、町が騒がしいのです。あなたが聞いた声はそれなのです。
1 46 Also Solomon sits on the throne of the kingdom. こうしてソロモンは王の位に座し、
1 47 And moreover the king's servants have gone to bless our lord King David, saying, 'May God make the name of Solomon better than your name, and may He make his throne greater than your throne.' Then the king bowed himself on the bed. かつ王の家来たちがきて、主君ダビデ王に祝いを述べて、『願わくは、あなたの神がソロモンの名をあなたの名よりも高くし、彼の位をあなたの位よりも大きくされますように』と言いました。そして王は床の上で拝されました。
1 48 Also the king said thus, 'Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who has given one to sit on my throne this day, while my eyes see it!' " 王はまたこう言われました、『イスラエルの神、主はほむべきかな。主はきょう、わたしの位に座するひとりの子を与えて、これをわたしに見せてくださった』と」。
1 49 So all the guests who were with Adonijah were afraid, and arose, and each one went his way. その時アドニヤと共にいた客はみな驚き、立っておのおの自分の道に去って行った。
1 50 Now Adonijah was afraid of Solomon; so he arose, and went and took hold of the horns of the altar. そしてアドニヤはソロモンを恐れ、立って行って祭壇の角をつかんだ。
1 51 And it was told Solomon, saying, "Indeed Adonijah is afraid of King Solomon; for look, he has taken hold of the horns of the altar, saying, 'Let King Solomon swear to me today that he will not put his servant to death with the sword.' " ある人がこれをソロモンに告げて言った、「アドニヤはソロモンを恐れ、今彼は祭壇の角をつかんで、『どうぞ、ソロモン王がきょう、つるぎをもってしもべを殺さないとわたしに誓ってくださるように』と言っています」。
1 52 Then Solomon said, "If he proves himself a worthy man, not one hair of him shall fall to the earth; but if wickedness is found in him, he shall die." ソロモンは言った、「もし彼がよい人となるならば、その髪の毛ひとすじも地に落ちることはなかろう。しかし彼のうちに悪のあることがわかるならば、彼は死ななければならない」。
1 53So King Solomon sent them to bring him down from the altar. And he came and fell down before King Solomon; and Solomon said to him, "Go to your house." ソロモンは人をつかわして彼を祭壇からつれて下らせた。彼がきてソロモンを拝したので、ソロモンは彼に「家に帰りなさい」と言った。

2 1 Now the days of David drew near that he should die, and he charged Solomon his son, saying: ダビデの死ぬ日が近づいたので、彼はその子ソロモンに命じて言った、
2 2 "I go the way of all the earth; be strong, therefore, and prove yourself a man. 「わたしは世のすべての人の行く道を行こうとしている。あなたは強く、男らしくなければならない。
2 3 And keep the charge of the Lord your God: to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commandments, His judgments, and His testimonies, as it is written in the Law of Moses, that you may prosper in all that you do and wherever you turn; あなたの神、主のさとしを守り、その道に歩み、その定めと戒めと、おきてとあかしとを、モーセの律法にしるされているとおりに守らなければならない。そうすれば、あなたがするすべての事と、あなたの向かうすべての所で、あなたは栄えるであろう。
2 4 that the Lord may fulfill His word which He spoke concerning me, saying, 'If your sons take heed to their way, to walk before Me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul,' He said, 'you shall not lack a man on the throne of Israel.' また主がさきにわたしについて語って『もしおまえの子たちが、その道を慎み、心をつくし、精神をつくして真実をもって、わたしの前に歩むならば、おまえに次いでイスラエルの位にのぼる人が、欠けることはなかろう』と言われた言葉を確実にされるであろう。
2 5 Moreover you know also what Joab the son of Zeruiah did to me, and what he did to the two commanders of the armies of Israel, to Abner the son of Ner and Amasa the son of Jether, whom he killed. And he shed the blood of war in peacetime, and put the blood of war on his belt that was around his waist, and on his sandals that were on his feet. またあなたはゼルヤの子ヨアブがわたしにした事、すなわち彼がイスラエルのふたりの軍の長ネルの子アブネルと、エテルの子アマサにした事を知っている。彼はこのふたりを殺して、戦争で流した地を太平の時に報い、罪のない者の血をわたしの腰のまわりの帯と、わたしの足のくつにつけた。
2 6 Therefore do according to your wisdom, and do not let his gray hair go down to the grave in peace. それゆえ、あなたの知恵にしたがって事を行い、彼のしらがを安らかに陰府に下らせてはならない。
2 7 But show kindness to the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite, and let them be among those who eat at your table, for so they came to me when I fled from Absalom your brother. ただしギレアデびとバルジライの子らには恵みを施し、彼らをあなたの食卓で食事する人々のうちに加えなさい。彼らはわたしがあなたの兄弟アブサロムを避けて逃げた時、わたしを迎えてくれたからである。
2 8 And see, you have with you Shimei the son of Gera, a Benjamite from Bahurim, who cursed me with a malicious curse in the day when I went to Mahanaim. But he came down to meet me at the Jordan, and I swore to him by the Lord, saying, 'I will not put you to death with the sword.' またバホリムのベニヤミンびとゲラの子シメイがあなたと共にいる。彼はわたしがマハナイムへ行った時、激しいのろいの言葉をもってわたしをのろった。しかし彼がヨルダンへ下ってきて、わたしを迎えたので、わたしは主をさして彼に誓い、『わたしはつるぎをもってあなたを殺さない』と言った。
2 9 Now therefore, do not hold him guiltless, for you are a wise man and know what you ought to do to him; but bring his gray hair down to the grave with blood." しかし彼を罪のない者としてはならない。あなたは知恵のある人であるから、彼になすべき事を知っている。あなたは彼のしらがを血に染めて陰府に下らせなければならない」。
2 10 So David rested with his fathers, and was buried in the City of David. ダビデはその先祖と共に眠って、ダビデの町に葬られた。
2 11 The period that David reigned over Israel was forty years; seven years he reigned in Hebron, and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three years. ダビデがイスラエルを治めた日数は四十年であった。すなわちヘブロンで七年、エルサレムで三十三年、王であった。
2 12 Then Solomon sat on the throne of his father David; and his kingdom was firmly established. このようにしてソロモンは父ダビデの位に座し、国は堅く定まった。
2 13 Now Adonijah the son of Haggith came to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon. So she said, "Do you come peaceably?" And he said, "Peaceably." さて、ハギテの子アドニヤがソロモンの母バテシバのところへきたので、バテシバは言った、「あなたは穏やかな事のためにきたのですか」。彼は言った、「穏やかな事のためです」。
2 14 Moreover he said, "I have something to say to you." And she said, "Say it." 彼はまた言った、「あなたに申しあげる事があります」。バテシバは言った、「言いなさい」。
2 15 Then he said, "You know that the kingdom was mine, and all Israel had set their expectations on me, that I should reign. However, the kingdom has been turned over, and has become my brother's; for it was his from the Lord. 彼は言った、「ごぞんじのように、国はわたしのもので、イスラエルの人は皆わたしが王になるものと期待していました。しかし国は転じて、わたしの兄弟のものとなりました。彼のものとなったのは、主から出たことです。
2 16 Now I ask one petition of you; do not deny me." And she said to him, "Say it." 今わたしはあなたに一つのお願いがあります。断らないでください」。バテシバは彼に言った、「言いなさい」。
2 17 Then he said, "Please speak to King Solomon, for he will not refuse you, that he may give me Abishag the Shunammite as wife." 彼は言った、「どうかソロモン王に請うて、――王はあなたに断るようなことはないでしょうから――シュナミびとアビシャグをわたしに与えて妻にさせてください」。
2 18 So Bathsheba said, "Very well, I will speak for you to the king." バテシバは言った、「よろしい。わたしはあなたのために王に話しましょう」。
2 19 Bathsheba therefore went to King Solomon, to speak to him for Adonijah. And the king rose up to meet her and bowed down to her, and sat down on his throne and had a throne set for the king's mother; so she sat at his right hand. バテシバはアドニヤのためにソロモン王に話すため、王のもとへ行った。王は立って迎え、彼女を拝して王座に着き、王母のために座を設けさせたので、彼女は王の右に座した。
2 20Then she said, "I desire one small petition of you; do not refuse me." And the king said to her, "Ask it, my mother, for I will not refuse you." そこでバテシバは言った、「あなたに一つの小さいお願いがあります。お断りにならないでください」。王は彼女に言った、「母上よ、あなたの願いを言ってください。わたしは断らないでしょう」。
2 21 So she said, "Let Abishag the Shunammite be given to Adonijah your brother as wife." 彼女は言った、「どうぞ、シュナミびとアビシャグをあなたの兄弟アドニヤに与えて、妻にさせてください」。
2 22 And King Solomon answered and said to his mother, "Now why do you ask Abishag the Shunammite for Adonijah? Ask for him the kingdom also--for he is my older brother--for him, and for Abiathar the priest, and for Joab the son of Zeruiah." ソロモン王は答えて母に言った、「どうしてアドニヤのためにシュナミびとアビシャグを求められるのですか。彼のためには国をも求めなさい。彼はわたしの兄で、彼の味方には祭司アビヤタルとゼルヤの子ヨアブがいるのですから」。
2 23 Then King Solomon swore by the Lord, saying, "May God do so to me, and more also, if Adonijah has not spoken this word against his own life! そしてソロモン王は主をさして誓って言った、「もしアドニヤがこの言葉によって自分の命を失うのでなければ、どんなにでもわたしを罰してください。
2 24 Now therefore, as the Lord lives, who has confirmed me and set me on the throne of David my father, and who has established a house for me, as He promised, Adonijah shall be put to death today!" わたしを立てて、父ダビデの位にのぼらせ、主が約束されたように、わたしに一家を与えてくださった主は生きておられる。アドニヤはきょう殺されなければならない」。
2 25 So King Solomon sent by the hand of Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; and he struck him down, and he died. ソロモン王はエホヤダの子ベナヤをつかわしたので、彼はアドニヤを撃って殺した。
2 26 And to Abiathar the priest the king said, "Go to Anathoth, to your own fields, for you are deserving of death; but I will not put you to death at this time, because you carried the ark of the Lord God before my father David, and because you were afflicted every time my father was afflicted." 王はまた祭司アビヤタルに言った、「あなたの領地アナトテへ行きなさい。あなたは死に当る者ですが、さきにわたしの父ダビデの前に神、主の箱をかつぎ、またすべてわたしの父が受けた苦しみを、あなたも共に苦しんだので、わたしは、きょうは、あなたを殺しません」。
2 27 So Solomon removed Abiathar from being priest to the Lord, that he might fulfill the word of the Lord which He spoke concerning the house of Eli at Shiloh. そしてソロモンはアビヤタルを主の祭司職から追放した。こうして主がシロでエリの家について言われた主の言葉が成就した。
2 28 Then news came to Joab, for Joab had defected to Adonijah, though he had not defected to Absalom. So Joab fled to the tabernacle of the Lord, and took hold of the horns of the altar. さてこの知らせがヨアブに達したので、ヨアブは主の幕屋にのがれて、祭壇の角をつかんだ。ヨアブはアブサロムを支持しなかったけれども、アドニヤを支持したからである。
2 29 And King Solomon was told, "Joab has fled to the tabernacle of the Lord; there he is, by the altar." Then Solomon sent Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, saying, "Go, strike him down." ヨアブが主の幕屋にのがれて、祭壇のかたわらにいることを、ソロモン王に告げる者があったので、ソロモン王はエホヤダの子ベナヤをつかわし、「行って彼を撃て」と言った。
2 30 So Benaiah went to the tabernacle of the Lord, and said to him, "Thus says the king, 'Come out!' " And he said, "No, but I will die here." 2 32 So the Lord will return his blood on his head, because he struck down two men more righteous and better than he, and killed them with the sword--Abner the son of Ner, the commander of the army of Israel, and Amasa the son of Jether, the commander of the army of Judah--though my father David did not know it. 主はまたヨアブが血を流した行為を、彼自身のこうべに報いられるであろう。これは彼が自分よりも正しいすぐれたふたりの人、すなわちイスラエルの軍の長ネルの子アブネルと、ユダの軍の長エテルの子アマサを、つるぎをもって撃ち殺し、わたしの父ダビデのあずかり知らない事をしたからである。
2 33 Their blood shall therefore return upon the head of Joab and upon the head of his descendants forever. But upon David and his descendants, upon his house and his throne, there shall be peace forever from the Lord." それゆえ、彼らの血は永遠にヨアブのこうべと、その子孫のこうべに帰すであろう。しかしダビデと、その子孫と、その家と、その位とには、主から賜わる平安が永久にあるであろう」。
2 34 So Benaiah the son of Jehoiada went up and struck and killed him; and he was buried in his own house in the wilderness. そこでエホヤダの子ベナヤは上っていって、彼を撃ち殺した。彼は荒野にある自分の家に葬られた。
2 35 The king put Benaiah the son of Jehoiada in his place over the army, and the king put Zadok the priest in the place of Abiathar. 王はエホヤダの子ベナヤを、ヨアブに代って軍の長とした。王はまた祭司ザドクをアビヤタルに代らせた。
2 36 Then the king sent and called for Shimei, and said to him, "Build yourself a house in Jerusalem and dwell there, and do not go out from there anywhere. また王は人をつかわし、シメイを召して言った、「あなたはエルサレムのうちに、自分のために家を建てて、そこに住み、そこからどこへも出てはならない。
2 37 For it shall be, on the day you go out and cross the Brook Kidron, know for certain you shall surely die; your blood shall be on your own head." あなたが出て、キデロン川を渡る日には必ず殺されることを、しかと知らなければならない。あなたの血はあなたのこうべに帰すであろう」。
2 38 And Shimei said to the king, "The saying is good. As my lord the king has said, so your servant will do." So Shimei dwelt in Jerusalem many days. シメイは王に言った、「お言葉は結構です。王、わが主の仰せられるとおりに、しもべはいたしましょう」。こうしてシメイは久しくエルサレムに住んだ。
2 39 Now it happened at the end of three years, that two slaves of Shimei ran away to Achish the son of Maachah, king of Gath. And they told Shimei, saying, "Look, your slaves are in Gath!" ところが三年の後、シメイのふたりの奴隷が、ガテの王マアカの子アキシのところへ逃げ去った。人々がシメイに告げて、「ごらんなさい、あなたの奴隷はガテにいます」と言ったので、
2 40So Shimei arose, saddled his donkey, and went to Achish at Gath to seek his slaves. And Shimei went and brought his slaves from Gath. シメイは立って、ろばにくらを置き、ガテのアキシのところへ行って、その奴隷を尋ねた。すなわちシメイは行ってその奴隷をガテから連れてきたが、
2 41 And Solomon was told that Shimei had gone from Jerusalem to Gath and had come back. シメイがエルサレムからガテへ行って帰ったことがソロモン王に聞えたので、
2 42 Then the king sent and called for Shimei, and said to him, "Did I not make you swear by the Lord, and warn you, saying, 'Know for certain that on the day you go out and travel anywhere, you shall surely die'? And you said to me, 'The word I have heard is good.' 王は人をつかわし、シメイを召して言った、「わたしはあなたに主をさして誓わせ、かつおごそかにあなたを戒めて、『あなたが出て、どこかへ行く日には、必ず殺されることを、しかと知らなければならない』と言ったではないか。そしてあなたは、わたしに『お言葉は結構です。従います』と言った。
2 43 Why then have you not kept the oath of the Lord and the commandment that I gave you?" ところで、あなたはなぜ主に対する誓いと、わたしが命じた命令を守らなかったのか」。
2 44 The king said moreover to Shimei, "You know, as your heart acknowledges, all the wickedness that you did to my father David; therefore the Lord will return your wickedness on your own head. 王はまたシメイに言った、「あなたは自分の心に、あなたがわたしの父ダビデにしたもろもろの悪を知っている。主はあなたの悪をあなたのこうべに報いられるであろう。
2 45 But King Solomon shall be blessed, and the throne of David shall be established before the Lord forever." しかしソロモン王は祝福をうけ、ダビデの位は永久に主の前に堅く立つであろう」。
2 46 So the king commanded Benaiah the son of Jehoiada; and he went out and struck him down, and he died. Thus the kingdom was established in the hand of Solomon. 王がエホヤダの子ベナヤに命じたので、彼は出ていってシメイを撃ち殺した。こうして国はソロモンの手に堅く立った。
列王記上 1 Kings 3 3
3 1 Now Solomon made a treaty with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and married Pharaoh's daughter; then he brought her to the City of David until he had finished building his own house, and the house of the Lord, and the wall all around Jerusalem. ソロモン王はエジプトの王パロと縁を結び、パロの娘をめとってダビデの町に連れてきて、自分の家と、主の宮と、エルサレムの周囲の城壁を建て終るまでそこにおらせた。
3 2 Meanwhile the people sacrificed at the high places, because there was no house built for the name of the Lord until those days. そのころまで主の名のために建てた宮がなかったので、民は高き所で犠牲をささげていた。
3 3 And Solomon loved the Lord, walking in the statutes of his father David, except that he sacrificed and burned incense at the high places. ソロモンは主を愛し、父ダビデの定めに歩んだが、ただ彼は高き所で犠牲をささげ、香をたいた。
3 4 Now the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the great high place: Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on that altar. ある日、王はギベオンへ行って、そこで犠牲をささげようとした。それが主要な高き所であったからである。ソロモンは一千の燔祭をその祭壇にささげた。
3 5 At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God said, "Ask! What shall I give you?" ギベオンで主は夜の夢にソロモンに現れて言われた、「あなたに何を与えようか、求めなさい」。
3 6 And Solomon said: "You have shown great mercy to Your servant David my father, because he walked before You in truth, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with You; You have continued this great kindness for him, and You have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. ソロモンは言った、「あなたのしもべであるわたしの父ダビデがあなたに対して誠実と公義と真心とをもって、あなたの前に歩んだので、あなたは大いなるいつくしみを彼に示されました。またあなたは彼のために、この大いなるいつくしみをたくわえて、今日、彼の位に座する子を授けられました。
3 7Now, O Lord my God, You have made Your servant king instead of my father David, but I am a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in. わが神、主よ、あなたはこのしもべを、わたしの父ダビデに代って王とならせられました。しかし、わたしは小さい子供であって、出入りすることを知りません。
3 8 And Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You have chosen, a great people, too numerous to be numbered or counted. かつ、しもべはあなたが選ばれた、あなたの民、すなわちその数が多くて、数えることも、調べることもできないほどのおびただしい民の中におります。
3 9 Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?" それゆえ、聞きわける心をしもべに与えて、あなたの民をさばかせ、わたしに善悪をわきまえることを得させてください。だれが、あなたのこの大いなる民をさばくことができましょう」。
3 10 The speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. ソロモンはこの事を求めたので、そのことが主のみこころにかなった。
3 11 Then God said to him: "Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked long life for yourself, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice, そこで神は彼に言われた、「あなたはこの事を求めて、自分のために長命を求めず、また自分のために富を求めず、また自分の敵の命をも求めず、ただ訴えをききわける知恵を求めたゆえに、
3 12 behold, I have done according to your words; see, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you. 見よ、わたしはあなたの言葉にしたがって、賢い、英明な心を与える。あなたの先にはあなたに並ぶ者がなく、あなたの後にもあなたに並ぶ者は起らないであろう。
3 13And I have also given you what you have not asked: both riches and honor, so that there shall not be anyone like you among the kings all your days. わたしはまたあなたの求めないもの、すなわち富と誉をもあなたに与える。あなたの生きているかぎり、王たちのうちにあなたに並ぶ者はないであろう。
3 14 So if you walk in My ways, to keep My statutes and My commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days." もしあなたが、あなたの父ダビデの歩んだように、わたしの道に歩んで、わたしの定めと命令とを守るならば、わたしはあなたの日を長くするであろう」。
3 15 Then Solomon awoke; and indeed it had been a dream. And he came to Jerusalem and stood before the ark of the covenant of the Lord, offered up burnt offerings, offered peace offerings, and made a feast for all his servants. ソロモンが目をさましてみると、それは夢であった。そこで彼はエルサレムへ行き、主の契約の箱の前に立って燔祭と酬恩祭をささげ、すべての家来のために祝宴を設けた。
3 16 Now two women who were harlots came to the king, and stood before him. さて、ふたりの遊女が王のところにきて、王の前に立った。
3 17 And one woman said, "O my lord, this woman and I dwell in the same house; and I gave birth while she was in the house. ひとりの女は言った、「ああ、わが主よ、この女とわたしとはひとつの家に住んでいますが、わたしはこの女と一緒に家にいる時、子を産みました。
3 18 Then it happened, the third day after I had given birth, that this woman also gave birth. And we were together; no one was with us in the house, except the two of us in the house. ところがわたしの産んだ後、三日目にこの女もまた子を産みました。そしてわたしたちは一緒にいましたが、家にはほかにだれもわたしたちと共にいた者はなく、ただわたしたちふたりだけでした。
3 19 And this woman's son died in the night, because she lay on him. ところがこの女は自分の子の上に伏したので、夜のうちにその子は死にました。
3 20So she arose in the middle of the night and took my son from my side, while your maidservant slept, and laid him in her bosom, and laid her dead child in my bosom. 彼女は夜中に起きて、はしための眠っている間に、わたしの子をわたしのかたわらから取って、自分のふところに寝かせ、自分の死んだ子をわたしのふところに寝かせました。
3 21And when I rose in the morning to nurse my son, there he was, dead. But when I had examined him in the morning, indeed, he was not my son whom I had borne." わたしは朝、子に乳を飲ませようとして起きて見ると死んでいました。しかし朝になってよく見ると、それはわたしが産んだ子ではありませんでした」。
3 22 Then the other woman said, "No! But the living one is my son, and the dead one is your son." And the first woman said, "No! But the dead one is your son, and the living one is my son." Thus they spoke before the king. ほかの女は言った、「いいえ、生きているのがわたしの子です。死んだのはあなたの子です」。初めの女は言った、「いいえ、死んだのがあなたの子です。生きているのはわたしの子です」。彼らはこのように王の前に言い合った。
3 23 And the king said, "The one says, 'This is my son, who lives, and your son is the dead one'; and the other says, 'No! But your son is the dead one, and my son is the living one.' " この時、王は言った、「ひとりは『この生きているのがわたしの子で、死んだのがあなたの子だ』と言い、またひとりは『いいえ、死んだのがあなたの子で、生きているのはわたしの子だ』と言う」。
3 24 Then the king said, "Bring me a sword." So they brought a sword before the king. そこで王は「刀を持ってきなさい」と言ったので、刀を王の前に持ってきた。
3 25 And the king said, "Divide the living child in two, and give half to one, and half to the other." 王は言った、「生きている子を二つに分けて、半分をこちらに、半分をあちらに与えよ」。
3 26 Then the woman whose son was living spoke to the king, for she yearned with compassion for her son; and she said, "O my lord, give her the living child, and by no means kill him!" But the other said, "Let him be neither mine nor yours, but divide him." すると生きている子の母である女は、その子のために心がやけるようになって、王に言った、「ああ、わが主よ、生きている子を彼女に与えてください。決してそれを殺さないでください」。しかしほかのひとりは言った、「それをわたしのものにも、あなたのものにもしないで、分けてください」。
3 27 So the king answered and said, "Give the first woman the living child, and by no means kill him; she is his mother." すると王は答えて言った、「生きている子を初めの女に与えよ。決して殺してはならない。彼女はその母なのだ」。
3 28 And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had rendered; and they feared the king, for they saw that the wisdom of God was in him to administer justice. イスラエルは皆王が与えた判決を聞いて王を恐れた。神の知恵が彼のうちにあって、さばきをするのを見たからである。
列王記上 1 Kings 4 4
4 1 So King Solomon was king over all Israel. ソロモン王はイスラエルの全地の王であった。
4 2 And these were his officials: Azariah the son of Zadok, the priest; 彼の高官たちは次のとおりである。ザドクの子アザリヤは祭司。
4 3 Elihoreph and Ahijah, the sons of Shisha, scribes; Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud, the recorder; シシャの子エリホレフとアヒヤは書記官。アヒルデの子ヨシャバテは史官。
4 4 Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, over the army; Zadok and Abiathar, the priests; エホヤダの子ベナヤは軍の長。ザドクとアビヤタルは祭司。
4 5 Azariah the son of Nathan, over the officers; Zabud the son of Nathan, a priest and the king's friend; ナタンの子アザリヤは代官の長。ナタンの子ザブデは祭司で、王の友であった。
4 6 Ahishar, over the household; and Adoniram the son of Abda, over the labor force. アヒシャルは宮内卿。アブダの子アドニラムは徴募の長であった。
4 7 And Solomon had twelve governors over all Israel, who provided food for the king and his household; each one made provision for one month of the year. ソロモンはまたイスラエルの全地に十二人の代官を置いた。その人々は王とその家のために食物を備えた。すなわちおのおの一年に一月ずつ食物を備えるのであった。
4 8 These are their names: Ben-Hur, in the mountains of Ephraim; その名は次のとおりである。エフライムの山地にはベンホル。
4 9 Ben-Deker, in Makaz, Shaalbim, Beth Shemesh, and Elon Beth Hanan; マカヅと、シャラビムと、ベテシメシと、エロン・ベテハナンにはベンデケル。
4 10 Ben-Hesed, in Arubboth; to him belonged Sochoh and all the land of Hepher; アルボテにはベンヘセデ、（彼はソコとヘペルの全地を担当した）。
4 11Ben-Abinadab, in all the regions of Dor; he had Taphath the daughter of Solomon as wife; ドルの高地の全部にはベン・アビナダブ、（彼はソロモンの娘タパテを妻とした）。
4 12 Baana the son of Ahilud, in Taanach, Megiddo, and all Beth Shean, which is beside Zaretan below Jezreel, from Beth Shean to Abel Meholah, as far as the other side of Jokneam; アヒルデの子バアナはタアナクとメギドと、エズレルの下、ザレタンのかたわらにあるベテシャンの全地を担当して、ベテシャンからアベル・メホラに至り、ヨクメアムの向こうにまで及んだ。
4 13 Ben-Geber, in Ramoth Gilead; to him belonged the towns of Jair the son of Manasseh, in Gilead; to him also belonged the region of Argob in Bashan--sixty large cities with walls and bronze gate-bars; ラモテ・ギレアデにはベンゲベル、（彼はギレアデにあるマナセの子ヤイルの村々を担当し、またバシャンにあるアルゴブの地方の城壁と青銅の貫の木のある大きな町六十を担当した）。
4 14 Ahinadab the son of Iddo, in Mahanaim; マハナイムにはイドの子アヒナダブ。
4 15Ahimaaz, in Naphtali; he also took Basemath the daughter of Solomon as wife; ナフタリにはアヒマアズ、（彼もソロモンの娘バスマテを妻にめとった）。
4 16Baanah the son of Hushai, in Asher and Aloth; アセルとベアロテにはホシャイの子バアナ。
4 17 Jehoshaphat the son of Paruah, in Issachar; イッサカルにはパルアの子ヨシャパテ。
4 18 Shimei the son of Elah, in Benjamin; ベニヤミンにはエラの子シメイ。
4 19 Geber the son of Uri, in the land of Gilead, in the country of Sihon king of the Amorites, and of Og king of Bashan. He was the only governor who was in the land. アモリびとの王シホンの地およびバシャンの王オグの地なるギレアデの地にはウリの子ゲベル。彼はその地のただひとりの代官であった。
4 20 Judah and Israel were as numerous as the sand by the sea in multitude, eating and drinking and rejoicing. ユダとイスラエルの人々は多くて、海べの砂のようであったが、彼らは飲み食いして楽しんだ。
4 21 So Solomon reigned over all kingdoms from the River to the land of the Philistines, as far as the border of Egypt. They brought tribute and served Solomon all the days of his life. ソロモンはユフラテ川からペリシテびとの地と、エジプトの境に至るまでの諸国を治めたので、皆みつぎ物を携えてきて、ソロモンの一生のあいだ仕えた。
4 22 Now Solomon's provision for one day was thirty kors of fine flour, sixty kors of meal, さてソロモンの一日の食物は細かい麦粉三十コル、荒い麦粉六十コル、
4 23 ten fatted oxen, twenty oxen from the pastures, and one hundred sheep, besides deer, gazelles, roebucks, and fatted fowl. 肥えた牛十頭、牧場の牛二十頭、羊百頭で、そのほかに雄じか、かもしか、こじか、および肥えた鳥があった。
4 24 For he had dominion over all the region on this side of the River from Tiphsah even to Gaza, namely over all the kings on this side of the River; and he had peace on every side all around him. これはソロモンがユフラテ川の西の地方をテフサからガザまで、ことごとく治めたからである。すなわち彼はユフラテ川の西の諸王をことごとく治め、周囲至る所に平安を得た。
4 25 And Judah and Israel dwelt safely, each man under his vine and his fig tree, from Dan as far as Beersheba, all the days of Solomon. ソロモンの一生の間、ユダとイスラエルはダンからベエルシバに至るまで、安らかにおのおの自分たちのぶどうの木の下と、いちじくの木の下に住んだ。
4 26 Solomon had forty thousand stalls of horses for his chariots, and twelve thousand horsemen. ソロモンはまた戦車の馬の、うまや四千と、騎兵一万二千を持っていた。
4 27And these governors, each man in his month, provided food for King Solomon and for all who came to King Solomon's table. There was no lack in their supply. そしてそれらの代官たちはおのおの当番の月にソロモン王のため、およびすべてソロモン王の食卓に連なる者のために、食物を備えて欠けることのないようにした。
4 28 They also brought barley and straw to the proper place, for the horses and steeds, each man according to his charge. また彼らはおのおのその割当にしたがって馬および早馬に食わせる大麦とわらを、その馬のいる所に持ってきた。
4 29 And God gave Solomon wisdom and exceedingly great understanding, and largeness of heart like the sand on the seashore. 神はソロモンに非常に多くの知恵と悟りを授け、また海べの砂原のように広い心を授けられた。
4 30 Thus Solomon's wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the men of the East and all the wisdom of Egypt. ソロモンの知恵は東の人々の知恵とエジプトのすべての知恵にまさった。
4 31For he was wiser than all men--than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, Chalcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol; and his fame was in all the surrounding nations. 彼はすべての人よりも賢く、エズラびとエタンよりも、またマホルの子ヘマン、カルコル、ダルダよりも賢く、その名声は周囲のすべての国々に聞えた。
4 32 He spoke three thousand proverbs, and his songs were one thousand and five. 彼はまた箴言三千を説いた。またその歌は一千五首あった。
4 33 Also he spoke of trees, from the cedar tree of Lebanon even to the hyssop that springs out of the wall; he spoke also of animals, of birds, of creeping things, and of fish. 彼はまた草木のことを論じてレバノンの香柏から石がきにはえるヒソプにまで及んだ。彼はまた獣と鳥と這うものと魚のことを論じた。
4 34 And men of all nations, from all the kings of the earth who had heard of his wisdom, came to hear the wisdom of Solomon. 諸国の人々はソロモンの知恵を聞くためにきた。地の諸王はソロモンの知恵を聞いて人をつかわした。
列王記上 1 Kings 5 5
5 1 Now Hiram king of Tyre sent his servants to Solomon, because he heard that they had anointed him king in place of his father, for Hiram had always loved David. さてツロの王ヒラムは、ソロモンが油を注がれ、その父に代って、王となったのを聞いて、家来をソロモンにつかわした。ヒラムは常にダビデを愛したからである。
5 2 Then Solomon sent to Hiram, saying: そこでソロモンはヒラムに人をつかわして言った、
5 3 You know how my father David could not build a house for the name of the Lord his God because of the wars which were fought against him on every side, until the Lord put his foes under the soles of his feet. 「あなたの知られるとおり、父ダビデはその周囲にあった敵との戦いのゆえに、彼の神、主の名のために宮を建てることができず、主が彼らをその足の裏の下に置かれるのを待ちました。
5 4 But now the Lord my God has given me rest on every side; there is neither adversary nor evil occurrence. ところが今わが神、主はわたしに四方の太平を賜わって、敵もなく、災もなくなったので、
5 5And behold, I propose to build a house for the name of the Lord my God, as the Lord spoke to my father David, saying, "Your son, whom I will set on your throne in your place, he shall build the house for My name." 主が父ダビデに『おまえに代って、おまえの位に、わたしがつかせるおまえの子、その人がわが名のために宮を建てるであろう』と言われたように、わが神、主の名のために宮を建てようと思います。
5 6 Now therefore, command that they cut down cedars for me from Lebanon; and my servants will be with your servants, and I will pay you wages for your servants according to whatever you say. For you know there is none among us who has skill to cut timber like the Sidonians. それゆえ、あなたは命令を下して、レバノンの香柏をわたしのために切り出させてください。わたしのしもべたちをあなたのしもべたちと一緒に働かせます。またわたしはすべてあなたのおっしゃるとおり、あなたのしもべたちの賃銀をあなたに払います。あなたの知られるとおり、わたしたちのうちにはシドンびとのように木を切るに巧みな人がないからです」。
5 7 So it was, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly and said, Blessed be the Lord this day, for He has given David a wise son over this great people! ヒラムはソロモンの言葉を聞いて大いに喜び、「きょう、主はあがむべきかな。主はこのおびただしい民を治める賢い子をダビデに賜わった」と言った。
5 8 Then Hiram sent to Solomon, saying: I have considered the message which you sent me, and I will do all you desire concerning the cedar and cypress logs. そしてヒラムはソロモンに人をつかわして言った、「わたしはあなたが申しおくられたことを聞きました。香柏の材木と、いとすぎの材木については、すべてお望みのようにいたします。
5 9 My servants shall bring them down from Lebanon to the sea; I will float them in rafts by sea to the place you indicate to me, and will have them broken apart there; then you can take them away. And you shall fulfill my desire by giving food for my household. わたしのしもべどもにそれをレバノンから海に運びおろさせましょう。わたしはそれをいかだに組んで、海路、あなたの指示される場所まで送り、そこでそれをくずしましょう。あなたはそれを受け取ってください。また、あなたはわたしの家のために食物を供給して、わたしの望みをかなえてください」。
5 10 Then Hiram gave Solomon cedar and cypress logs according to all his desire. こうしてヒラムはソロモンにすべて望みのように香柏の材木と、いとすぎの材木を与えた。
5 11 And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand kors of wheat as food for his household, and twenty kors of pressed oil. Thus Solomon gave to Hiram year by year. またソロモンはヒラムにその家の食物として小麦二万コルを与え、またオリブをつぶして取った油二万コルを与えた。このようにソロモンは年々ヒラムに与えた。
5 12So the Lord gave Solomon wisdom, as He had promised him; and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon, and the two of them made a treaty together. 主は約束されたようにソロモンに知恵を賜わった。またヒラムとソロモンの間は平和であって、彼らふたりは条約を結んだ。
5 13 Then King Solomon raised up a labor force out of all Israel; and the labor force was thirty thousand men. ソロモン王はイスラエルの全地から強制的に労働者を徴募した。その徴募人員は三万人であった。
5 14 And he sent them to Lebanon, ten thousand a month in shifts: they were one month in Lebanon and two months at home; Adoniram was in charge of the labor force. ソロモンは彼らを一か月交代に一万人ずつレバノンにつかわした。すなわち一か月レバノンに、二か月家にあり、アドニラムは徴募の監督であった。
5 15 Solomon had seventy thousand who carried burdens, and eighty thousand who quarried stone in the mountains, ソロモンにはまた荷を負う者が七万人、山で石を切る者が八万人あった。
5 16 besides three thousand three hundred from the chiefs of Solomon's deputies, who supervised the people who labored in the work. ほかにソロモンには工事を監督する上役の官吏が三千三百人あって、工事に働く民を監督した。
5 17And the king commanded them to quarry large stones, costly stones, and hewn stones, to lay the foundation of the temple. 王は命じて大きい高価な石を切り出させ、切り石をもって宮の基をすえさせた。
5 18 So Solomon's builders, Hiram's builders, and the Gebalites quarried them; and they prepared timber and stones to build the temple. こうしてソロモンの建築者と、ヒラムの建築者およびゲバルびとは石を切り、材木と石とを宮を建てるために備えた。

6 1 And it came to pass in the four hundred and eightieth year after the children of Israel had come out of the land of Egypt, in the fourth year of Solomon's reign over Israel, in the month of Ziv, which is the second month, that he began to build the house of the Lord. イスラエルの人々がエジプトの地を出て後四百八十年、ソロモンがイスラエルの王となって第四年のジフの月すなわち二月に、ソロモンは主のために宮を建てることを始めた。
6 2Now the house which King Solomon built for the Lord, its length was sixty cubits, its width twenty, and its height thirty cubits. ソロモン王が主のために建てた宮は長さ六十キュビト、幅二十キュビト、高さ三十キュビトであった。
6 3 The vestibule in front of the sanctuary of the house was twenty cubits long across the width of the house, and the width of the vestibule extended ten cubits from the front of the house. 宮の拝殿の前の廊は宮の幅にしたがって長さ二十キュビト、その幅は宮の前で十キュビトであった。
6 4 And he made for the house windows with beveled frames. 彼は宮に、内側の広い枠の窓を造った。
6 5 Against the wall of the temple he built chambers all around, against the walls of the temple, all around the sanctuary and the inner sanctuary. Thus he made side chambers all around it. また宮の壁につけて周囲に脇屋を設け、宮の壁すなわち拝殿と本殿の壁の周囲に建てめぐらし、宮の周囲に脇間があるようにした。
6 6 The lowest chamber was five cubits wide, the middle was six cubits wide, and the third was seven cubits wide; for he made narrow ledges around the outside of the temple, so that the support beams would not be fastened into the walls of the temple. 下の脇間は広さ五キュビト、中の広さ六キュビト、第三のは広さ七キュビトであった。宮の外側には壁に段を造って、梁を宮の壁の中に差し込まないようにした。
6 7 And the temple, when it was being built, was built with stone finished at the quarry, so that no hammer or chisel or any iron tool was heard in the temple while it was being built. 宮は建てる時に、石切り場で切り整えた石をもって造ったので、建てている間は宮のうちには、つちも、おのも、その他の鉄器もその音が聞えなかった。
6 8 The doorway for the middle story was on the right side of the temple. They went up by stairs to the middle story, and from the middle to the third. 下の脇間の入口は宮の右側にあり、回り階段によって中の脇間に、中の脇間から第三の脇間にのぼった。
6 9 So he built the temple and finished it, and he paneled the temple with beams and boards of cedar. こうして彼は宮を建て終り、香柏のたるきと板をもって宮の天井を造った。
6 10And he built side chambers against the entire temple, each five cubits high; they were attached to the temple with cedar beams. また宮につけて、おのおの高さ五キュビトの脇間のある脇屋を建てめぐらし、香柏の材木をもって宮に接続させた。
6 11 Then the word of the Lord came to Solomon, saying: そこで主の言葉がソロモンに臨んだ、
6 12 "Concerning this temple which you are building, if you walk in My statutes, execute My judgments, keep all My commandments, and walk in them, then I will perform My word with you, which I spoke to your father David. 「あなたが建てるこの宮については、もしあなたがわたしの定めに歩み、おきてを行い、すべての戒めを守り、それに従って歩むならば、わたしはあなたの父ダビデに約束したことを成就する。
6 13 And I will dwell among the children of Israel, and will not forsake My people Israel." そしてわたしはイスラエルの人々のうちに住み、わたしの民イスラエルを捨てることはない」。
6 14 So Solomon built the temple and finished it. こうしてソロモンは宮を建て終った。
6 15 And he built the inside walls of the temple with cedar boards; from the floor of the temple to the ceiling he paneled the inside with wood; and he covered the floor of the temple with planks of cypress. 彼は香柏の板をもって宮の壁の内側を張った。すなわち宮の床から天井のたるきまで香柏の板で張った。また、いとすぎの板をもって宮の床を張った。
6 16 Then he built the twenty-cubit room at the rear of the temple, from floor to ceiling, with cedar boards; he built it inside as the inner sanctuary, as the Most Holy Place. また宮の奥に二十キュビトの室を床から天井のたるきまで香柏の板をもって造った。すなわち宮の内に至聖所としての本堂を造った。
6 17 And in front of it the temple sanctuary was forty cubits long. 宮すなわち本殿の前にある拝殿は長さ四十キュビトであった。
6 18 The inside of the temple was cedar, carved with ornamental buds and open flowers. All was cedar; there was no stone to be seen. 宮の内側の香柏の板は、ひさごの形と、咲いた花を浮彫りにしたもので、みな香柏の板で、石は見えなかった。
6 19 And he prepared the inner sanctuary inside the temple, to set the ark of the covenant of the Lord there. そして主の契約の箱を置くために、宮の内の奥に本殿を設けた。
6 20 The inner sanctuary was twenty cubits long, twenty cubits wide, and twenty cubits high. He overlaid it with pure gold, and overlaid the altar of cedar. 本殿は長さ二十キュビト、幅二十キュビト、高さ二十キュビトであって、純金でこれをおおった。また香柏の祭壇を造った。
6 21 So Solomon overlaid the inside of the temple with pure gold. He stretched gold chains across the front of the inner sanctuary, and overlaid it with gold. ソロモンは純金をもって宮の内側をおおい、本殿の前に金の鎖をもって隔てを造り、金をもってこれをおおった。
6 22 The whole temple he overlaid with gold, until he had finished all the temple; also he overlaid with gold the entire altar that was by the inner sanctuary. また金をもって残らず宮をおおい、ついに宮を飾ることをことごとく終えた。また本殿に属する祭壇をことごとく金でおおった。
6 23 Inside the inner sanctuary he made two cherubim of olive wood, each ten cubits high. 本殿のうちにオリブの木をもって二つのケルビムを造った。その高さはおのおの十キュビト。
6 24 One wing of the cherub was five cubits, and the other wing of the cherub five cubits: ten cubits from the tip of one wing to the tip of the other. そのケルブの一つの翼の長さは五キュビト、またそのケルブの他の翼の長さも五キュビトであった。一つの翼の端から他の翼の端までは十キュビトあった。
6 25 And the other cherub was ten cubits; both cherubim were of the same size and shape. 他のケルブも十キュビトであって、二つのケルビムは同じ寸法、同じ形であった。
6 26 The height of one cherub was ten cubits, and so was the other cherub. このケルブの高さは十キュビト、かのケルブの高さも同じであった。
6 27 Then he set the cherubim inside the inner room; and they stretched out the wings of the cherubim so that the wing of the one touched one wall, and the wing of the other cherub touched the other wall. And their wings touched each other in the middle of the room. ソロモンは宮のうちの奥にケルビムをすえた。ケルビムの翼を伸ばしたところ、このケルブの翼はこの壁に達し、かのケルブの翼はかの壁に達し、他の二つの翼は宮の中で互に触れ合った。
6 28 Also he overlaid the cherubim with gold. 彼は金をもってそのケルビムをおおった。
6 29 Then he carved all the walls of the temple all around, both the inner and outer sanctuaries, with carved figures of cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers. 彼は宮の周囲の壁に、内外の室とも皆ケルビムと、しゅろの木と、咲いた花の形の彫り物を刻み、
6 30 And the floor of the temple he overlaid with gold, both the inner and outer sanctuaries. 宮の床は、内外の室とも金でおおった。
6 31 For the entrance of the inner sanctuary he made doors of olive wood; the lintel and doorposts were one-fifth of the wall. 本殿の入口にはオリブの木のとびらを造った。そのとびらの上のかまちと脇柱とで五辺形をなしていた。
6 32 The two doors were of olive wood; and he carved on them figures of cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers, and overlaid them with gold; and he spread gold on the cherubim and on the palm trees. その二つのとびらもオリブの木であって、ソロモンはその上にケルビムと、しゅろの木と、咲いた花の形を刻み、金をもっておおった。すなわちケルビムと、しゅろの木の上に金を着せた。
6 33 So for the door of the sanctuary he also made doorposts of olive wood, one-fourth of the wall. こうしてソロモンはまた拝殿の入口のためにオリブの木で四角の形に脇柱を造った。
6 34 And the two doors were of cypress wood; two panels comprised one folding door, and two panels comprised the other folding door. その二つのとびらはいとすぎであって、一つのとびらは二つにたたむ折り戸であり、他のとびらも二つにたたむ折り戸であった。
6 35 Then he carved cherubim, palm trees, and open flowers on them, and overlaid them with gold applied evenly on the carved work. ソロモンはその上にケルビムと、しゅろの木と、咲いた花を刻み、金をもって彫り物の上を形どおりにおおった。
6 36 And he built the inner court with three rows of hewn stone and a row of cedar beams. また切り石三かさねと、香柏の角材ひとかさねとをもって内庭を造った。
6 37 In the fourth year the foundation of the house of the Lord was laid, in the month of Ziv. 第四年のジフの月に主の宮の基をすえ、
6 38 And in the eleventh year, in the month of Bul, which is the eighth month, the house was finished in all its details and according to all its plans. So he was seven years in building it. 第十一年のブルの月すなわち八月に、宮のすべての部分が設計どおりに完成した。ソロモンはこれを建てるのに七年を要した。
列王記上 1 Kings 7 7
7 1 But Solomon took thirteen years to build his own house; so he finished all his house. またソロモンは自分の家を建てたが、十三年かかってその家を全部建て終った。
7 2 He also built the House of the Forest of Lebanon; its length was one hundred cubits, its width fifty cubits, and its height thirty cubits, with four rows of cedar pillars, and cedar beams on the pillars. 彼はレバノンの森の家を建てた。長さ百キュビト、幅五十キュビト、高さ三十キュビトで、三列の香柏の柱があり、その柱の上に香柏の梁があった。
7 3 And it was paneled with cedar above the beams that were on forty-five pillars, fifteen to a row. 四十五本の柱の上にある室は香柏の板でおおった。柱は各列十五本あった。
7 4 There were windows with beveled frames in three rows, and window was opposite window in three tiers. また窓わくが三列あって、窓と窓と三段に向かい合っていた。
7 5 And all the doorways and doorposts had rectangular frames; and window was opposite window in three tiers. 戸口と窓はみな四角の枠をもち、窓と窓と三段に向かい合った。
7 6 He also made the Hall of Pillars: its length was fifty cubits, and its width thirty cubits; and in front of them was a portico with pillars, and a canopy was in front of them. また柱の広間を造った。長さ五十キュビト、幅三十キュビトであった。柱の前に一つの広間があり、その玄関に柱とひさしがあった。
7 7 Then he made a hall for the throne, the Hall of Judgment, where he might judge; and it was paneled with cedar from floor to ceiling. またソロモンはみずから審判をするために玉座の広間、すなわち審判の広間を造った。床からたるきまで香柏をもっておおった。
7 8 And the house where he dwelt had another court inside the hall, of like workmanship. Solomon also made a house like this hall for Pharaoh's daughter, whom he had taken as wife. ソロモンが住んだ宮殿はその広間のうしろの他の庭にあって、その造作は同じであった。ソロモンはまた彼がめとったパロの娘のために家を建てたが、その広間と同じであった。
7 9 All these were of costly stones cut to size, trimmed with saws, inside and out, from the foundation to the eaves, and also on the outside to the great court. これらはみな内外とも、土台から軒まで、また主の宮の庭から大庭まで、寸法に合わせて切った石、すなわち、のこぎりでひいた高価な石で造られた。
7 10The foundation was of costly stones, large stones, some ten cubits and some eight cubits. また土台は高価な石、大きな石、すなわち八キュビトの石、十キュビトの石であった。
7 11 And above were costly stones, hewn to size, and cedar wood. その上には寸法に合わせて切った高価な石と香柏とがあった。
7 12 The great court was enclosed with three rows of hewn stones and a row of cedar beams. So were the inner court of the house of the Lord and the vestibule of the temple. また大庭の周囲には三かさねの切り石と、一かさねの香柏の角材があった。主の宮の内庭と宮殿の広間の庭の場合と同じである。
7 13 Now King Solomon sent and brought Huram from Tyre. ソロモン王は人をつかわしてツロからヒラムを呼んできた。
7 14 He was the son of a widow from the tribe of Naphtali, and his father was a man of Tyre, a bronze worker; he was filled with wisdom and understanding and skill in working with all kinds of bronze work. So he came to King Solomon and did all his work. 彼はナフタリの部族の寡婦の子であって、その父はツロの人で、青銅の細工人であった。ヒラムは青銅のいろいろな細工をする知恵と悟りと知識に満ちた者であったが、ソロモン王のところにきて、そのすべての細工をした。
7 15 And he cast two pillars of bronze, each one eighteen cubits high, and a line of twelve cubits measured the circumference of each. 彼は青銅の柱二本を鋳た。一本の柱の高さは十八キュビト、そのまわりは綱をもって測ると十二キュビトあり、指四本の厚さで空洞であった。他の柱も同じである。
7 16 Then he made two capitals of cast bronze, to set on the tops of the pillars. The height of one capital was five cubits, and the height of the other capital was five cubits. また青銅を溶かして柱頭二つを造り、柱の頂にすえた。その一つの柱頭の高さは五キュビト、他の柱頭の高さも五キュビトであった。
7 17 He made a lattice network, with wreaths of chainwork, for the capitals which were on top of the pillars: seven chains for one capital and seven for the other capital. 柱の頂にある柱頭のために鎖に編んだ飾りひもで市松模様の網細工二つを造った。すなわちこの柱頭のために一つ、かの柱頭のために一つを造った。
7 18 So he made the pillars, and two rows of pomegranates above the network all around to cover the capitals that were on top; and thus he did for the other capital. またざくろを造った。すなわち二並びのざくろを一つの網細工の上のまわりに造って、柱の頂にある柱頭を巻いた。他の柱頭にも同じようにした。
7 19 The capitals which were on top of the pillars in the hall were in the shape of lilies, four cubits. この廊の柱の頂にある柱頭の上に四キュビトのゆりの花の細工があった。
7 20 The capitals on the two pillars also had pomegranates above, by the convex surface which was next to the network; and there were two hundred such pomegranates in rows on each of the capitals all around. 二つの柱の上端の丸い突出部の上にある網細工の柱頭の周囲には、おのおの二百のざくろが二並びになっていた。
7 21 Then he set up the pillars by the vestibule of the temple; he set up the pillar on the right and called its name Jachin, and he set up the pillar on the left and called its name Boaz. この柱を神殿の廊に立てた。すなわち南に柱を立てて、その名をヤキンと名づけ、北に柱を立てて、その名をボアズと名づけた。
7 22 The tops of the pillars were in the shape of lilies. So the work of the pillars was finished. その柱の頂にはゆりの花の細工があった。こうしてその柱の造作ができあがった。
7 23 And he made the Sea of cast bronze, ten cubits from one brim to the other; it was completely round. Its height was five cubits, and a line of thirty cubits measured its circumference. また海を鋳て造った。縁から縁まで十キュビトであって、周囲は円形をなし、高さ五キュビトで、その周囲は綱をもって測ると三十キュビトであった。
7 24 Below its brim were ornamental buds encircling it all around, ten to a cubit, all the way around the Sea. The ornamental buds were cast in two rows when it was cast. その縁の下には三十キュビトの周囲をめぐるひさごがあって、海の周囲を囲んでいた。そのひさごは二並びで、海を鋳る時に鋳たものである。
7 25 It stood on twelve oxen: three looking toward the north, three looking toward the west, three looking toward the south, and three looking toward the east; the Sea was set upon them, and all their back parts pointed inward. その海は十二の牛の上に置かれ、その三つは北に向かい、三つは西に向かい、三つは南に向かい、三つは東に向かっていた。海はその上に置かれ、牛のうしろは皆内に向かっていた。
7 26 It was a handbreadth thick; and its brim was shaped like the brim of a cup, like a lily blossom. It contained two thousand baths. 海の厚さは手の幅で、その縁は杯の縁のように、ゆりの花に似せて造られた。海には水が二千バテはいった。
7 27 He also made ten carts of bronze; four cubits was the length of each cart, four cubits its width, and three cubits its height. また青銅の台を十個造った。台は長さ四キュビト、幅四キュビト、高さ三キュビトであった。
7 28 And this was the design of the carts: They had panels, and the panels were between frames; その台の構造は次のとおりである。台には鏡板があり、鏡板は枠の中にあった。
7 29 on the panels that were between the frames were lions, oxen, and cherubim. And on the frames was a pedestal on top. Below the lions and oxen were wreaths of plaited work. 枠の中にある鏡板には、ししと牛とケルビムとがあり、また、ししと牛の上と下にある枠の斜面には花飾りが細工してあった。
7 30 Every cart had four bronze wheels and axles of bronze, and its four feet had supports. Under the laver were supports of cast bronze beside each wreath. また台にはおのおの四つの青銅の車輪と、青銅の車軸があり、その四すみには洗盤のささえがあった。そのささえは、おのおの花飾りのかたわらに鋳て造りつけてあった。
7 31 Its opening inside the crown at the top was one cubit in diameter; and the opening was round, shaped like a pedestal, one and a half cubits in outside diameter; and also on the opening were engravings, but the panels were square, not round. その口は一キュビト上に突き出て、台の頂の内にあり、その口は丸く、台座のように造られ、深さ一キュビト半であった。またその口には彫り物があった。その鏡板は四角で、丸くなかった。
7 32 Under the panels were the four wheels, and the axles of the wheels were joined to the cart. The height of a wheel was one and a half cubits. 四つの車輪は鏡板の下にあり、車軸は台に取り付けてあり、車輪の高さはおのおの一キュビト半であった。
7 33 The workmanship of the wheels was like the workmanship of a chariot wheel; their axle pins, their rims, their spokes, and their hubs were all of cast bronze. 車輪の構造は戦車の車輪の構造と同じで、その車軸と縁と輻と轂とはみな鋳物であった。
7 34 And there were four supports at the four corners of each cart; its supports were part of the cart itself. おのおのの台の四すみに四つのささえがあり、そのささえは台の一部をなしていた。
7 35 On the top of the cart, at the height of half a cubit, it was perfectly round. And on the top of the cart, its flanges and its panels were of the same casting. 台の上には高さ半キュビトの丸い帯輪があった。そして台の上にあるその支柱と鏡板とはその一部をなしていた。
7 36 On the plates of its flanges and on its panels he engraved cherubim, lions, and palm trees, wherever there was a clear space on each, with wreaths all around. その支柱の表面と鏡板にはそれぞれの場所に、ケルビムと、ししと、しゅろを刻み、またその周囲に花飾りを施した。
7 37 Thus he made the ten carts. All of them were of the same mold, one measure, and one shape. このようにして十個の台を造った。それはみな同じ鋳方、同じ寸法、同じ形であった。
7 38 Then he made ten lavers of bronze; each laver contained forty baths, and each laver was four cubits. On each of the ten carts was a laver. また青銅の洗盤を十個造った。洗盤はおのおの四十バテの水がはいり、洗盤はおのおの四キュビトであった。十個の台の上にはおのおの一つずつの洗盤があった。
7 39 And he put five carts on the right side of the house, and five on the left side of the house. He set the Sea on the right side of the house, toward the southeast. その台の五個を宮の南の方に、五個を宮の北の方に置き、宮の東南の方に海をすえた。
7 40 Huram made the lavers and the shovels and the bowls. So Huram finished doing all the work that he was to do for King Solomon for the house of the Lord: ヒラムはまたつぼと十能と鉢を造った。こうしてヒラムはソロモン王のために主の宮のすべての細工をなし終えた。
7 41 the two pillars, the two bowl-shaped capitals that were on top of the two pillars; the two networks covering the two bowl-shaped capitals which were on top of the pillars; すなわち二本の柱と、その柱の頂にある柱頭の二つの玉と、柱の頂にある柱頭の二つの玉をおおう二つの網細工と、
7 42 four hundred pomegranates for the two networks (two rows of pomegranates for each network, to cover the two bowl-shaped capitals that were on top of the pillars); その二つの網細工のためのざくろ四百。このざくろは一つの網細工に、二並びにつけて、柱の頂にある柱頭の二つの玉を巻いた。
7 43 the ten carts, and ten lavers on the carts; また十個の台と、その台の上の十個の洗盤と、
7 44 one Sea, and twelve oxen under the Sea; 一つの海と、その海の下の十二の牛とであった。
7 45 the pots, the shovels, and the bowls. All these articles which Huram made for King Solomon for the house of the Lord were of burnished bronze. さてつぼと十能と鉢、すなわちヒラムがソロモン王のために造った主の宮のこれらの器はみな光のある青銅であった。
7 46 In the plain of Jordan the king had them cast in clay molds, between Succoth and Zaretan. 王はヨルダンの低地で、スコテとザレタンの間の粘土の地でこれらを鋳た。
7 47And Solomon did not weigh all the articles, because there were so many; the weight of the bronze was not determined. ソロモンはその器が非常に多かったので、皆それをはからずにおいた。その青銅の重さは、はかり得なかった。
7 48 Thus Solomon had all the furnishings made for the house of the Lord: the altar of gold, and the table of gold on which was the showbread; またソロモンは主の宮にあるもろもろの器を造った。すなわち金の祭壇と、供えのパンを載せる金の机、
7 49 the lampstands of pure gold, five on the right side and five on the left in front of the inner sanctuary, with the flowers and the lamps and the wick-trimmers of gold; および純金の燭台。この燭台は本殿の前に、五つは南に、五つは北にあった。また金の花と、ともしび皿と、心かきと、
7 50 the basins, the trimmers, the bowls, the ladles, and the censers of pure gold; and the hinges of gold, both for the doors of the inner room (the Most Holy Place) and for the doors of the main hall of the temple. 純金の皿と、心切りばさみと、鉢と、香の杯と、心取り皿と、至聖所である宮の奥のとびらのためおよび、宮の拝殿のとびらのために、金のひじつぼを造った。
7 51 So all the work that King Solomon had done for the house of the Lord was finished; and Solomon brought in the things which his father David had dedicated: the silver and the gold and the furnishings. He put them in the treasuries of the house of the Lord. こうしてソロモン王が主の宮のために造るすべての細工は終った。そしてソロモンは父ダビデがささげた物、すなわち金銀および器物を携え入り、主の宮の宝蔵の中にたくわえた。
列王記上 1 Kings 8 8
8 1 Now Solomon assembled the elders of Israel and all the heads of the tribes, the chief fathers of the children of Israel, to King Solomon in Jerusalem, that they might bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord from the City of David, which is Zion. ソロモンは主の契約の箱をダビデの町、すなわちシオンからかつぎ上ろうとして、イスラエルの長老たちと、すべての部族のかしらたちと、イスラエルの人々の氏族の長たちをエルサレムでソロモン王のもとに召し集めた。
8 2 Therefore all the men of Israel assembled with King Solomon at the feast in the month of Ethanim, which is the seventh month. イスラエルの人は皆エタニムの月すなわち七月の祭にソロモン王のもとに集まった。
8 3 So all the elders of Israel came, and the priests took up the ark. イスラエルの長老たちが皆来たので、祭司たちは箱を取りあげた。

8 14 Then the king turned around and blessed the whole assembly of Israel, while all the assembly of Israel was standing. 王は身をめぐらして、イスラエルのすべての会衆を祝福した。その時イスラエルのすべての会衆は立っていた。
8 15 And he said: "Blessed be the Lord God of Israel, who spoke with His mouth to my father David, and with His hand has fulfilled it, saying, 彼は言った、「イスラエルの神、主はほむべきかな。主はその口をもってわたしの父ダビデに約束されたことを、その手をもってなし遂げられた。主は言われた、
8 16 'Since the day that I brought My people Israel out of Egypt, I have chosen no city from any tribe of Israel in which to build a house, that My name might be there; but I chose David to be over My people Israel.' 『わが民イスラエルをエジプトから導き出した日から、わたしはわたしの名を置くべき宮を建てるために、イスラエルのもろもろの部族のうちから、どの町をも選んだことがなかった。ただダビデを選んで、わが民イスラエルの上に立たせた』と。
8 17 Now it was in the heart of my father David to build a temple for the name of the Lord God of Israel. イスラエルの神、主の名のために宮を建てることは、わたしの父ダビデの心にあった。
8 18 But the Lord said to my father David, 'Whereas it was in your heart to build a temple for My name, you did well that it was in your heart. しかし主はわたしの父ダビデに言われた、『わたしの名のために宮を建てることはあなたの心にあった。あなたの心にこの事のあったのは結構である。
8 19 Nevertheless you shall not build the temple, but your son who will come from your body, he shall build the temple for My name.' けれどもあなたはその宮を建ててはならない。あなたの身から出るあなたの子がわたしの名のために宮を建てるであろう』と。
8 20 So the Lord has fulfilled His word which He spoke; and I have filled the position of my father David, and sit on the throne of Israel, as the Lord promised; and I have built a temple for the name of the Lord God of Israel. そして主はその言われた言葉を行われた。すなわちわたしは父ダビデに代って立ち、主が言われたように、イスラエルの位に座し、イスラエルの神、主の名のために宮を建てた。

8 28 Yet regard the prayer of Your servant and his supplication, O Lord my God, and listen to the cry and the prayer which Your servant is praying before You today: しかしわが神、主よ、しもべの祈と願いを顧みて、しもべがきょう、あなたの前にささげる叫びと祈をお聞きください。
8 29 that Your eyes may be open toward this temple night and day, toward the place of which You said, 'My name shall be there,' that You may hear the prayer which Your servant makes toward this place. あなたが『わたしの名をそこに置く』と言われた所、すなわち、この宮に向かって夜昼あなたの目をお開きください。しもべがこの所に向かって祈る祈をお聞きください。

8 38 whatever prayer, whatever supplication is made by anyone, or by all Your people Israel, when each one knows the plague of his own heart, and spreads out his hands toward this temple: もし、だれでも、あなたの民イスラエルがみな、おのおのその心の悩みを知って、この宮に向かい、手を伸べるならば、どんな祈、どんな願いでも、
8 39 then hear in heaven Your dwelling place, and forgive, and act, and give to everyone according to all his ways, whose heart You know (for You alone know the hearts of all the sons of men), あなたは、あなたのすみかである天で聞いてゆるし、かつ行い、おのおのの人に、その心を知っておられるゆえ、そのすべての道にしたがって報いてください。ただ、あなただけ、すべての人の心を知っておられるからです。
8 40 that they may fear You all the days that they live in the land which You gave to our fathers. あなたが、われわれの先祖に賜わった地に、彼らの生きながらえる日の間、常にあなたを恐れさせてください。
8 41 "Moreover, concerning a foreigner, who is not of Your people Israel, but has come from a far country for Your name's sake またあなたの民イスラエルの者でなく、あなたの名のために遠い国から来る異邦人が、
8 42 (for they will hear of Your great name and Your strong hand and Your outstretched arm), when he comes and prays toward this temple, ――それは彼らがあなたの大いなる名と、強い手と、伸べた腕とについて聞き及ぶからです、――もしきて、この宮に向かって祈るならば、

8 44 "When Your people go out to battle against their enemy, wherever You send them, and when they pray to the Lord toward the city which You have chosen and the temple which I have built for Your name, あなたの民が敵と戦うために、あなたがつかわされる道を通って出て行くとき、もし彼らがあなたの選ばれた町、わたしがあなたの名のために建てた宮の方に向かって、主に祈るならば、

8 58 that He may incline our hearts to Himself, to walk in all His ways, and to keep His commandments and His statutes and His judgments, which He commanded our fathers. われわれの心を主に傾けて、主のすべての道に歩ませ、われわれの先祖に命じられた戒めと定めと、おきてとを守らせられるように。

9 6 But if you or your sons at all turn from following Me, and do not keep My commandments and My statutes which I have set before you, but go and serve other gods and worship them, しかし、あなたがた、またはあなたがたの子孫がそむいてわたしに従わず、わたしがあなたがたの前に置いた戒めと定めとを守らず、他の神々に行って、それに仕え、それを拝むならば、
9 7 then I will cut off Israel from the land which I have given them; and this house which I have consecrated for My name I will cast out of My sight. 9 8 And as for this house, which is exalted, everyone who passes by it will be astonished and will hiss, and say, 'Why has the Lord done thus to this land and to this house?' かつ、この宮は荒塚となり、そのかたわらを過ぎる者は皆驚き、うそぶいて『なにゆえ、主はこの地と、この宮とにこのようにされたのか』と言うであろう。
9 9 Then they will answer, 'Because they forsook the Lord their God, who brought their fathers out of the land of Egypt, and have embraced other gods, and worshiped them and served them; therefore the Lord has brought all this calamity on them.' 9 22 But of the children of Israel Solomon made no forced laborers, because they were men of war and his servants: his officers, his captains, commanders of his chariots, and his cavalry. しかしイスラエルの人々をソロモンはひとりも奴隷としなかった。彼らは軍人、また彼の役人、司令官、指揮官、戦車隊長、騎兵隊長であったからである。
9 23 Others were chiefs of the officials who were over Solomon's work: five hundred and fifty, who ruled over the people who did the work. ソロモンの工事を監督する上役の官吏は五百五十人であって、工事に働く民を治めた。
9 24But Pharaoh's daughter came up from the City of David to her house which Solomon had built for her. Then he built the Millo. パロの娘はダビデの町から上って、ソロモンが彼女のために建てた家に住んだ。その時ソロモンはミロを建てた。
9 25 Now three times a year Solomon offered burnt offerings and peace offerings on the altar which he had built for the Lord, and he burned incense with them on the altar that was before the Lord. So he finished the temple. ソロモンは主のために築いた祭壇の上に年に三度燔祭と酬恩祭をささげ、また主の前に香をたいた。こうしてソロモンは宮を完成した。
9 26King Solomon also built a fleet of ships at Ezion Geber, which is near Elath on the shore of the Red Sea, in the land of Edom. ソロモン王はエドムの地、紅海の岸のエラテに近いエジオン・ゲベルで数隻の船を造った。
9 27 Then Hiram sent his servants with the fleet, seamen who knew the sea, to work with the servants of Solomon. ヒラムは海の事を知っている船員であるそのしもべをソロモンのしもべと共にその船でつかわした。
9 28 And they went to Ophir, and acquired four hundred and twenty talents of gold from there, and brought it to King Solomon. 彼らはオフルへ行って、そこから金四百二十タラントを取って、ソロモン王の所にもってきた。

10 1 Now when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of the Lord, she came to test him with hard questions. シバの女王は主の名にかかわるソロモンの名声を聞いたので、難問をもってソロモンを試みようとたずねてきた。
10 2 She came to Jerusalem with a very great retinue, with camels that bore spices, very much gold, and precious stones; and when she came to Solomon, she spoke with him about all that was in her heart. 彼女は多くの従者を連れ、香料と、たくさんの金と宝石とをらくだに負わせてエルサレムにきた。彼女はソロモンのもとにきて、その心にあることをことごとく彼に告げたが、
10 3 So Solomon answered all her questions; there was nothing so difficult for the king that he could not explain it to her. ソロモンはそのすべての問に答えた。王が知らないで彼女に説明のできないことは一つもなかった。
10 4 And when the queen of Sheba had seen all the wisdom of Solomon, the house that he had built, シバの女王はソロモンのもろもろの知恵と、ソロモンが建てた宮殿、
10 5 the food on his table, the seating of his servants, the service of his waiters and their apparel, his cupbearers, and his entryway by which he went up to the house of the Lord, there was no more spirit in her. その食卓の食物と、列座の家来たちと、その侍臣たちの伺候ぶり、彼らの服装と、彼の給仕たち、および彼が主の宮でささげる燔祭を見て、全く気を奪われてしまった。
10 6 Then she said to the king: "It was a true report which I heard in my own land about your words and your wisdom. 彼女は王に言った、「わたしが国であなたの事と、あなたの知恵について聞いたことは真実でありました。

10 9 Blessed be the Lord your God, who delighted in you, setting you on the throne of Israel! Because the Lord has loved Israel forever, therefore He made you king, to do justice and righteousness." あなたの神、主はほむべきかな。主はあなたを喜び、あなたをイスラエルの位にのぼらせられました。主は永久にイスラエルを愛せられるゆえ、あなたを王として公道と正義とを行わせられるのです」。
10 10 Then she gave the king one hundred and twenty talents of gold, spices in great quantity, and precious stones. There never again came such abundance of spices as the queen of Sheba gave to King Solomon. そして彼女は金百二十タラントおよび多くの香料と宝石とを王に贈った。シバの女王がソロモン王に贈ったような多くの香料は再びこなかった。
10 11 Also, the ships of Hiram, which brought gold from Ophir, brought great quantities of almug wood and precious stones from Ophir. オフルから金を載せてきたヒラムの船は、またオフルからたくさんのびゃくだんの木と宝石とを運んできたので、
10 12 And the king made steps of the almug wood for the house of the Lord and for the king's house, also harps and stringed instruments for singers. There never again came such almug wood, nor has the like been seen to this day. 王はびゃくだんの木をもって主の宮と王の宮殿のために壁柱を造り、また歌う人々のために琴と立琴とを造った。このようなびゃくだんの木は、かつてきたこともなく、また今日まで見たこともなかった。
10 13Now King Solomon gave the queen of Sheba all she desired, whatever she asked, besides what Solomon had given her according to the royal generosity. So she turned and went to her own country, she and her servants. ソロモン王はその豊かなのにしたがってシバの女王に贈り物をしたほかに、彼女の望みにまかせて、すべてその求める物を贈った。そして彼女はその家来たちと共に自分の国へ帰っていった。
10 14 The weight of gold that came to Solomon yearly was six hundred and sixty-six talents of gold, さて一年の間にソロモンのところに、はいってきた金の目方は六百六十六タラントであった。
10 15 besides that from the traveling merchants, from the income of traders, from all the kings of Arabia, and from the governors of the country. そのほかに貿易商および商人の取引、ならびにアラビヤの諸王と国の代官たちからも、はいってきた。
10 16 And King Solomon made two hundred large shields of hammered gold; six hundred shekels of gold went into each shield. ソロモン王は延金の大盾二百を造った。その大盾にはおのおの六百シケルの金を用いた。
10 17 He also made three hundred shields of hammered gold; three minas of gold went into each shield. The king put them in the House of the Forest of Lebanon. また延金の小盾三百を造った。その小盾にはおのおの三ミナの金を用いた。王はこれらをレバノンの森の家に置いた。
10 18 Moreover the king made a great throne of ivory, and overlaid it with pure gold. 王はまた大きな象牙の玉座を造り、純金をもってこれをおおった。
10 19 The throne had six steps, and the top of the throne was round at the back; there were armrests on either side of the place of the seat, and two lions stood beside the armrests. その玉座に六つの段があり、玉座の後に子牛の頭があり、座席の両側にひじ掛けがあって、ひじ掛けのわきに二つのししが立っていた。
10 20 Twelve lions stood there, one on each side of the six steps; nothing like this had been made for any other kingdom. また六つの段のおのおのの両側に十二のししが立っていた。このような物はどこの国でも造られたことがなかった。
10 21 All King Solomon's drinking vessels were gold, and all the vessels of the House of the Forest of Lebanon were pure gold. Not one was silver, for this was accounted as nothing in the days of Solomon. ソロモン王が飲むときに用いた器は皆金であった。またレバノンの森の家の器も皆純金であって、銀のものはなかった。銀はソロモンの世には顧みられなかった。
10 22For the king had merchant ships at sea with the fleet of Hiram. Once every three years the merchant ships came bringing gold, silver, ivory, apes, and monkeys. これは王が海にタルシシの船隊を所有して、ヒラムの船隊と一緒に航海させ、タルシシの船隊に三年に一度、金、銀、象牙、さる、くじゃくを載せてこさせたからである。
10 23 So King Solomon surpassed all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom. このようにソロモン王は富も知恵も、地のすべての王にまさっていたので、
10 24 Now all the earth sought the presence of Solomon to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart. 全地の人々は神がソロモンの心に授けられた知恵を聞こうとしてソロモンに謁見を求めた。
10 25Each man brought his present: articles of silver and gold, garments, armor, spices, horses, and mules, at a set rate year by year. 人々はおのおの贈り物を携えてきた。すなわち銀の器、金の器、衣服、没薬、香料、馬、騾馬など年々定まっていた。
10 26 And Solomon gathered chariots and horsemen; he had one thousand four hundred chariots and twelve thousand horsemen, whom he stationed in the chariot cities and with the king in Jerusalem. ソロモンは戦車と騎兵とを集めたが、戦車一千四百両、騎兵一万二千あった。ソロモンはこれを戦車の町とエルサレムの王のもとに置いた。
10 27 The king made silver as common in Jerusalem as stones, and he made cedar trees as abundant as the sycamores which are in the lowland. 王はエルサレムで、銀を石のように用い、香柏を平地にあるいちじく桑のように多く用いた。
10 28 Also Solomon had horses imported from Egypt and Keveh; the king's merchants bought them in Keveh at the current price. ソロモンが馬を輸入したのはエジプトとクエからであった。すなわち王の貿易商はクエから代価を払って受け取ってきた。
10 29 Now a chariot that was imported from Egypt cost six hundred shekels of silver, and a horse one hundred and fifty; and thus, through their agents, they exported them to all the kings of the Hittites and the kings of Syria. エジプトから輸入される戦車一両は銀六百シケル、馬は百五十シケルであった。このようにして、これらのものが王の貿易商によって、ヘテびとのすべての王たちおよびスリヤの王たちに輸出された。

11 1 But King Solomon loved many foreign women, as well as the daughter of Pharaoh: women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians, and Hittites-- ソロモン王は多くの外国の女を愛した。すなわちパロの娘、モアブびと、アンモンびと、エドムびと、シドンびと、ヘテびとの女を愛した。
11 2 from the nations of whom the Lord had said to the children of Israel, "You shall not intermarry with them, nor they with you. Surely they will turn away your hearts after their gods." 11 4 For it was so, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned his heart after other gods; and his heart was not loyal to the Lord his God, as was the heart of his father David. ソロモンが年老いた時、その妻たちが彼の心を転じて他の神々に従わせたので、彼の心は父ダビデの心のようには、その神、主に真実でなかった。
11 5 For Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. これはソロモンがシドンびとの女神アシタロテに従い、アンモンびとの神である憎むべき者ミルコムに従ったからである。
11 6 Solomon did evil in the sight of the Lord, and did not fully follow the Lord, as did his father David. このようにソロモンは主の目の前に悪を行い、父ダビデのように全くは主に従わなかった。
11 7 Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh the abomination of Moab, on the hill that is east of Jerusalem, and for Molech the abomination of the people of Ammon. そしてソロモンはモアブの神である憎むべき者ケモシのために、またアンモンの人々の神である憎むべき者モレクのためにエルサレムの東の山に高き所を築いた。
11 8 And he did likewise for all his foreign wives, who burned incense and sacrificed to their gods. 彼はまた外国のすべての妻たちのためにもそうしたので、彼女たちはその神々に香をたき、犠牲をささげた。
11 9 So the Lord became angry with Solomon, because his heart had turned from the Lord God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice, このようにソロモンの心が転じて、イスラエルの神、主を離れたため、主は彼を怒られた。すなわち主がかつて二度彼に現れ、
11 10 and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods; but he did not keep what the Lord had commanded. この事について彼に、他の神々に従ってはならないと命じられたのに、彼は主の命じられたことを守らなかったからである。
11 11 Therefore the Lord said to Solomon, "Because you have done this, and have not kept My covenant and My statutes, which I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom away from you and give it to your servant. それゆえ、主はソロモンに言われた、「これがあなたの本心であり、わたしが命じた契約と定めとを守らなかったので、わたしは必ずあなたから国を裂き離して、それをあなたの家来に与える。
11 12 Nevertheless I will not do it in your days, for the sake of your father David; I will tear it out of the hand of your son. しかしあなたの父ダビデのために、あなたの世にはそれをしないが、あなたの子の手からそれを裂き離す。
11 13 However I will not tear away the whole kingdom; I will give one tribe to your son for the sake of my servant David, and for the sake of Jerusalem which I have chosen." ただし、わたしは国をことごとくは裂き離さず、わたしのしもべダビデのために、またわたしが選んだエルサレムのために一つの部族をあなたの子に与えるであろう」。
11 14 Now the Lord raised up an adversary against Solomon, Hadad the Edomite; he was a descendant of the king in Edom. こうして主はエドムびとハダデを起して、ソロモンの敵とされた。彼はエドムの王家の者であった。
11 15 For it happened, when David was in Edom, and Joab the commander of the army had gone up to bury the slain, after he had killed every male in Edom さきにダビデはエドムにいたが、軍の長ヨアブが上っていって、戦死した者を葬り、エドムの男子をことごとく打ち殺した時、
11 16 (because for six months Joab remained there with all Israel, until he had cut down every male in Edom), （ヨアブはイスラエルの人々と共に六か月そこにとどまって、エドムの男子をことごとく断った）。
11 17 that Hadad fled to go to Egypt, he and certain Edomites of his father's servants with him. Hadad was still a little child. ハダデはその父のしもべである数人のエドムびとと共に逃げてエジプトへ行こうとした。その時ハダデはまだ少年であった。
11 18 Then they arose from Midian and came to Paran; and they took men with them from Paran and came to Egypt, to Pharaoh king of Egypt, who gave him a house, apportioned food for him, and gave him land. 彼らがミデアンを立ってパランへ行き、パランから人々を伴ってエジプトへ行き、エジプトの王パロのところへ行くと、パロは彼に家を与え、食糧を定め、かつ土地を与えた。
11 19 And Hadad found great favor in the sight of Pharaoh, so that he gave him as wife the sister of his own wife, that is, the sister of Queen Tahpenes. ハダデは大いにパロの心にかなったので、パロは自分の妻の妹すなわち王妃タペネスの妹を妻として彼に与えた。
11 20Then the sister of Tahpenes bore him Genubath his son, whom Tahpenes weaned in Pharaoh's house. And Genubath was in Pharaoh's household among the sons of Pharaoh. タペネスの妹は彼に男の子ゲヌバテを産んだので、タペネスはその子をパロの家のうちで乳離れさせた。ゲヌバテはパロの家で、パロの子どもたちと一緒にいた。
11 21 So when Hadad heard in Egypt that David rested with his fathers, and that Joab the commander of the army was dead, Hadad said to Pharaoh, "Let me depart, that I may go to my own country." さてハダデはエジプトで、ダビデがその先祖と共に眠ったことと、軍の長ヨアブが死んだことを聞いたので、ハダデはパロに言った、「わたしを去らせて、国へ帰らせてください」。
11 22 Then Pharaoh said to him, "But what have you lacked with me, that suddenly you seek to go to your own country?" So he answered, "Nothing, but do let me go anyway." パロは彼に言った、「わたしと共にいて、なんの不足があって国へ帰ることを求めるのですか」。彼は言った、「ただ、わたしを帰らせてください」。
11 23 And God raised up another adversary against him, Rezon the son of Eliadah, who had fled from his lord, Hadadezer king of Zobah. 神はまたエリアダの子レゾンを起してソロモンの敵とされた。彼はその主人ゾバの王ハダデゼルのもとを逃げ去った者であった。
11 24 So he gathered men to him and became captain over a band of raiders, when David killed those of Zobah. And they went to Damascus and dwelt there, and reigned in Damascus. ダビデがゾバの人々を殺した後、彼は人々を自分のまわりに集めて略奪隊の首領となった。彼らはダマスコへ行って、そこに住み、ダマスコで彼を王とした。
11 25 He was an adversary of Israel all the days of Solomon (besides the trouble that Hadad caused); and he abhorred Israel, and reigned over Syria. 彼はソロモンの一生の間、イスラエルの敵となって、ハダデがしたように害をなし、イスラエルを憎んでスリヤを治めた。
11 26 Then Solomon's servant, Jeroboam the son of Nebat, an Ephraimite from Zereda, whose mother's name was Zeruah, a widow, also rebelled against the king. ゼレダのエフライムびとネバテの子ヤラベアムはソロモンの家来であったが、その母の名はゼルヤといって寡婦であった。彼もまたその手をあげて王に敵した。
11 27 And this is what caused him to rebel against the king: Solomon had built the Millo and repaired the damages to the City of David his father. 彼が手をあげて、王に敵した事情はこうである。ソロモンはミロを築き、父ダビデの町の破れ口をふさいでいた。
11 28 The man Jeroboam was a mighty man of valor; and Solomon, seeing that the young man was industrious, made him the officer over all the labor force of the house of Joseph. ヤラベアムは非常に手腕のある人であったが、ソロモンはこの若者がよく働くのを見て、彼にヨセフの家のすべての強制労働の監督をさせた。

11 31 And he said to Jeroboam, "Take for yourself ten pieces, for thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: 'Behold, I will tear the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon and will give ten tribes to you ヤラベアムに言った、「あなたは十切れを取りなさい。イスラエルの神、主はこう言われる、『見よ、わたしは国をソロモンの手から裂き離して、あなたに十部族を与えよう。
11 32 (but he shall have one tribe for the sake of My servant David, and for the sake of Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel), （ただし彼はわたしのしもべダビデのために、またわたしがイスラエルのすべての部族のうちから選んだ町エルサレムのために、一つの部族をもつであろう）。
11 33 because they have forsaken Me, and worshiped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Sidonians, Chemosh the god of the Moabites, and Milcom the god of the people of Ammon, and have not walked in My ways to do what is right in My eyes and keep My statutes and My judgments, as did his father David. それは彼がわたしを捨てて、シドンびとの女神アシタロテと、モアブの神ケモシと、アンモンの人々の神ミルコムを拝み、父ダビデのように、わたしの道に歩んで、わたしの目にかなう事を行い、わたしの定めと、おきてを守ることをしなかったからである。
11 34 However I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand, because I have made him ruler all the days of his life for the sake of My servant David, whom I chose because he kept My commandments and My statutes. しかし、わたしは国をことごとくは彼の手から取らない。わたしが選んだ、わたしのしもべダビデが、わたしの命令と定めとを守ったので、わたしは彼のためにソロモンを一生の間、君としよう。
11 35 But I will take the kingdom out of his son's hand and give it to you--ten tribes. そして、わたしはその子の手から国を取って、その十部族をあなたに与える。
11 36 And to his son I will give one tribe, that My servant David may always have a lamp before Me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen for Myself, to put My name there. その子には一つの部族を与えて、わたしの名を置くために選んだ町エルサレムで、わたしのしもべダビデに、わたしの前に常に一つのともしびを保たせるであろう。
11 37 So I will take you, and you shall reign over all your heart desires, and you shall be king over Israel. わたしがあなたを選び、あなたはすべて心の望むところを治めて、イスラエルの上に王となるであろう。
11 38 Then it shall be, if you heed all that I command you, walk in My ways, and do what is right in My sight, to keep My statutes and My commandments, as My servant David did, then I will be with you and build for you an enduring house, as I built for David, and will give Israel to you. もし、あなたが、わたしの命じるすべての事を聞いて、わたしの道に歩み、わたしの目にかなう事を行い、わたしのしもべダビデがしたように、わたしの定めと戒めとを守るならば、わたしはあなたと共にいて、わたしがダビデのために建てたように、あなたのために堅固な家を建てて、イスラエルをあなたに与えよう。
11 39 And I will afflict the descendants of David because of this, but not forever.' " わたしはこのためにダビデの子孫を苦しめる。しかし永久にではない』」。
11 40 Solomon therefore sought to kill Jeroboam. But Jeroboam arose and fled to Egypt, to Shishak king of Egypt, and was in Egypt until the death of Solomon. ソロモンはヤラベアムを殺そうとしたが、ヤラベアムは立ってエジプトにのがれ、エジプト王シシャクのところへ行って、ソロモンの死ぬまでエジプトにいた。
11 41Now the rest of the acts of Solomon, all that he did, and his wisdom, are they not written in the book of the acts of Solomon? ソロモンのそのほかの事績と、彼がしたすべての事およびその知恵は、ソロモンの事績の書にしるされているではないか。
11 42 And the period that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel was forty years. ソロモンがエルサレムでイスラエルの全地を治めた日は四十年であった。
11 43 Then Solomon rested with his fathers, and was buried in the City of David his father. And Rehoboam his son reigned in his place. ソロモンはその先祖と共に眠って、父ダビデの町に葬られ、その子レハベアムが代って王となった。

12 1 And Rehoboam went to Shechem, for all Israel had gone to Shechem to make him king. レハベアムはシケムへ行った。すべてのイスラエルびとが彼を王にしようとシケムへ行ったからである。
12 2 So it happened, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat heard it (he was still in Egypt, for he had fled from the presence of King Solomon and had been dwelling in Egypt), ネバテの子ヤラベアムはソロモンを避けてエジプトにのがれ、なおそこにいたが、これを聞いてエジプトから帰ったので、
12 3that they sent and called him. Then Jeroboam and the whole assembly of Israel came and spoke to Rehoboam, saying, 人々は人をつかわして彼を招いた。そしてヤラベアムとイスラエルの会衆は皆レハベアムの所にきて言った、
12 4 "Your father made our yoke heavy; now therefore, lighten the burdensome service of your father, and his heavy yoke which he put on us, and we will serve you." 「父上はわれわれのくびきを重くされましたが、今父上のきびしい使役と、父上がわれわれに負わせられた重いくびきとを軽くしてください。そうすればわれわれはあなたに仕えます」。
12 5 So he said to them, "Depart for three days, then come back to me." And the people departed. レハベアムは彼らに言った、「去って、三日過ぎてから、またわたしのところにきなさい」。それで民は立ち去った。
12 6 Then King Rehoboam consulted the elders who stood before his father Solomon while he still lived, and he said, "How do you advise me to answer these people?" レハベアム王は父ソロモンの存命中ソロモンに仕えた老人たちに相談して言った、「この民にどう返答すればよいと思いますか」。
12 7 And they spoke to him, saying, "If you will be a servant to these people today, and serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever." 彼らはレハベアムに言った、「もし、あなたが、きょう、この民のしもべとなって彼らに仕え、彼らに答えるとき、ねんごろに語られるならば、彼らは永久にあなたのしもべとなるでしょう」。

12 10 Then the young men who had grown up with him spoke to him, saying, "Thus you should speak to this people who have spoken to you, saying, 'Your father made our yoke heavy, but you make it lighter on us'--thus you shall say to them: 'My little finger shall be thicker than my father's waist! 彼と一緒に大きくなった若者たちは彼に言った、「あなたにむかって『父上はわれわれのくびきを重くされましたが、あなたは、それをわれわれのために軽くしてください』と言うこの民に、こう言いなさい、『わたしの小指は父の腰よりも太い。
12 11 And now, whereas my father put a heavy yoke on you, I will add to your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scourges!' " 父はあなたがたに重いくびきを負わせたが、わたしはさらに、あなたがたのくびきを重くしよう。父はむちであなたがたを懲らしたが、わたしはさそりをもってあなたがたを懲らそう』と」。
12 12 So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king had directed, saying, "Come back to me the third day." さてヤラベアムと民は皆、王が「三日目に再びわたしのところに来るように」と言ったとおりに、三日目にレハベアムのところにきた。
12 13 Then the king answered the people roughly, and rejected the advice which the elders had given him; 王は荒々しく民に答え、老人たちが与えた勧めを捨てて、
12 14 and he spoke to them according to the advice of the young men, saying, "My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scourges!" 若者たちの勧めに従い、彼らに告げて言った、「父はあなたがたのくびきを重くしたが、わたしはあなたがたのくびきを、さらに重くしよう。父はむちであなたがたを懲らしたが、わたしはさそりをもってあなたがたを懲らそう」。
12 15 So the king did not listen to the people; for the turn of events was from the Lord, that He might fulfill His word, which the Lord had spoken by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat. このように王は民の言うことを聞きいれなかった。これはかつて主がシロびとアヒヤによって、ネバテの子ヤラベアムに言われた言葉を成就するために、主が仕向けられた事であった。
12 16 Now when all Israel saw that the king did not listen to them, the people answered the king, saying: "What share have we in David? We have no inheritance in the son of Jesse. To your tents, O Israel! Now, see to your own house, O David!" So Israel departed to their tents. イスラエルの人々は皆、王が自分たちの言うことを聞きいれないのを見たので、民は王に答えて言った、／「われわれはダビデのうちに何の分があろうか、／エッサイの子のうちに嗣業がない。イスラエルよ、あなたがたの天幕へ帰れ。ダビデよ、今自分の家の事を見よ」。そしてイスラエルはその天幕へ去っていった。
12 17 But Rehoboam reigned over the children of Israel who dwelt in the cities of Judah. しかしレハベアムはユダの町々に住んでいるイスラエルの人々を治めた。
12 18 Then King Rehoboam sent Adoram, who was in charge of the revenue; but all Israel stoned him with stones, and he died. Therefore King Rehoboam mounted his chariot in haste to flee to Jerusalem. レハベアム王は徴募の監督であったアドラムをつかわしたが、イスラエルが皆、彼を石で撃ち殺したので、レハベアム王は急いで車に乗り、エルサレムへ逃げた。
12 19 So Israel has been in rebellion against the house of David to this day. こうしてイスラエルはダビデの家にそむいて今日に至った。
12 20 Now it came to pass when all Israel heard that Jeroboam had come back, they sent for him and called him to the congregation, and made him king over all Israel. There was none who followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only. イスラエルは皆ヤラベアムの帰ってきたのを聞き、人をつかわして彼を集会に招き、イスラエルの全家の上に王とした。ユダの部族のほかはダビデの家に従う者がなかった。
12 21 And when Rehoboam came to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah with the tribe of Benjamin, one hundred and eighty thousand chosen men who were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, that he might restore the kingdom to Rehoboam the son of Solomon. ソロモンの子レハベアムはエルサレムに来て、ユダの全家とベニヤミンの部族の者、すなわちえり抜きの軍人十八万を集め、国を取りもどすために、イスラエルの家と戦おうとしたが、
12 22 But the word of God came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying, 神の言葉が神の人シマヤに臨んだ、
12 23 "Speak to Rehoboam the son of Solomon, king of Judah, to all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the rest of the people, saying, 「ソロモンの子であるユダの王レハベアム、およびユダとベニヤミンの全家、ならびにそのほかの民に言いなさい、
12 24 'Thus says the Lord: "You shall not go up nor fight against your brethren the children of Israel. Let every man return to his house, for this thing is from Me." ' " Therefore they obeyed the word of the Lord, and turned back, according to the word of the Lord. 『主はこう仰せられる。あなたがたは上っていってはならない。あなたがたの兄弟であるイスラエルの人々と戦ってはならない。おのおの家に帰りなさい。この事はわたしから出たのである』」。それで彼らは主の言葉をきき、主の言葉に従って帰っていった。
12 25 Then Jeroboam built Shechem in the mountains of Ephraim, and dwelt there. Also he went out from there and built Penuel. ヤラベアムはエフライムの山地にシケムを建てて、そこに住んだ。彼はまたそこから出てペヌエルを建てた。
12 26 And Jeroboam said in his heart, "Now the kingdom may return to the house of David: しかしヤラベアムはその心のうちに言った、「国は今ダビデの家にもどるであろう。
12 27 If these people go up to offer sacrifices in the house of the Lord at Jerusalem, then the heart of this people will turn back to their lord, Rehoboam king of Judah, and they will kill me and go back to Rehoboam king of Judah." もしこの民がエルサレムにある主の宮に犠牲をささげるために上るならば、この民の心はユダの王である彼らの主君レハベアムに帰り、わたしを殺して、ユダの王レハベアムに帰るであろう」。
12 28 Therefore the king asked advice, made two calves of gold, and said to the people, "It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. Here are your gods, O Israel, which brought you up from the land of Egypt!" そこで王は相談して、二つの金の子牛を造り、民に言った、「あなたがたはもはやエルサレムに上るには、およばない。イスラエルよ、あなたがたをエジプトの国から導き上ったあなたがたの神を見よ」。
12 29 And he set up one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan. そして彼は一つをベテルにすえ、一つをダンに置いた。
12 30 Now this thing became a sin, for the people went to worship before the one as far as Dan. この事は罪となった。民がベテルへ行って一つを礼拝し、ダンへ行って一つを礼拝したからである。
12 31 He made shrines on the high places, and made priests from every class of people, who were not of the sons of Levi. 彼はまた高き所に家を造り、レビの子孫でない一般の民を祭司に任命した。
12 32 Jeroboam ordained a feast on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, like the feast that was in Judah, and offered sacrifices on the altar. So he did at Bethel, sacrificing to the calves that he had made. And at Bethel he installed the priests of the high places which he had made. またヤラベアムはユダで行う祭と同じ祭を八月の十五日に定め、そして祭壇に上った。彼はベテルでそのように行い、彼が造った子牛に犠牲をささげた。また自分の造った高き所の祭司をベテルに立てた。
12 33 So he made offerings on the altar which he had made at Bethel on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, in the month which he had devised in his own heart. And he ordained a feast for the children of Israel, and offered sacrifices on the altar and burned incense. こうして彼はベテルに造った祭壇に八月の十五日に上った。これは彼が自分で勝手に考えついた月であった。そして彼はイスラエルの人々のために祭を定め、祭壇に上って香をたいた。
列王記上 1 Kings 13 13
13 1 And behold, a man of God went from Judah to Bethel by the word of the Lord, and Jeroboam stood by the altar to burn incense. 見よ、神の人が主の命によってユダからベテルにきた。その時ヤラベアムは祭壇の上に立って香をたいていた。
13 2 Then he cried out against the altar by the word of the Lord, and said, "O altar, altar! Thus says the Lord: 'Behold, a child, Josiah by name, shall be born to the house of David; and on you he shall sacrifice the priests of the high places who burn incense on you, and men's bones shall be burned on you.' " 神の人は祭壇にむかい主の命によって呼ばわって言った、「祭壇よ、祭壇よ、主はこう仰せられる、『見よ、ダビデの家にひとりの子が生れる。その名をヨシヤという。彼はおまえの上で香をたく高き所の祭司らを、おまえの上にささげる。また人の骨がおまえの上で焼かれる』」。
13 3 And he gave a sign the same day, saying, "This is the sign which the Lord has spoken: Surely the altar shall split apart, and the ashes on it shall be poured out." その日、彼はまた一つのしるしを示して言った、「主の言われたしるしはこれである、『見よ、祭壇は裂け、その上にある灰はこぼれ出るであろう』」。
13 4 So it came to pass when King Jeroboam heard the saying of the man of God, who cried out against the altar in Bethel, that he stretched out his hand from the altar, saying, "Arrest him!" Then his hand, which he stretched out toward him, withered, so that he could not pull it back to himself. ヤラベアム王は、神の人がベテルにある祭壇にむかって呼ばわる言葉を聞いた時、祭壇から手を伸ばして、「彼を捕えよ」と言ったが、彼にむかって伸ばした手が枯れて、ひっ込めることができなかった。
13 5The altar also was split apart, and the ashes poured out from the altar, according to the sign which the man of God had given by the word of the Lord. そして神の人が主の言葉をもって示したしるしのように祭壇は裂け、灰は祭壇からこぼれ出た。
13 6 Then the king answered and said to the man of God, "Please entreat the favor of the Lord your God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored to me." So the man of God entreated the Lord, and the king's hand was restored to him, and became as before. 王は神の人に言った、「あなたの神、主に願い、わたしのために祈って、わたしの手をもとに返らせてください」。神の人が主に願ったので、王の手はもとに返って、前のようになった。
13 7 Then the king said to the man of God, "Come home with me and refresh yourself, and I will give you a reward." そこで王は神の人に言った、「わたしと一緒に家にきて、身を休めなさい。あなたに謝礼をさしあげましょう」。
13 8 But the man of God said to the king, "If you were to give me half your house, I would not go in with you; nor would I eat bread nor drink water in this place. 神の人は王に言った、「たとい、あなたの家の半ばをくださっても、わたしはあなたと一緒にまいりません。またこの所では、パンも食べず水も飲みません。
13 9 For so it was commanded me by the word of the Lord, saying, 'You shall not eat bread, nor drink water, nor return by the same way you came.' " 主の言葉によってわたしは、『パンを食べてはならない、水を飲んではならない。また来た道から帰ってはならない』と命じられているからです」。
13 10 So he went another way and did not return by the way he came to Bethel. こうして彼はほかの道を行き、ベテルに来た道からは帰らなかった。
13 11 Now an old prophet dwelt in Bethel, and his sons came and told him all the works that the man of God had done that day in Bethel; they also told their father the words which he had spoken to the king. さてベテルにひとりの年老いた預言者が住んでいたが、そのむすこたちがきて、その日神の人がベテルでした事どもを彼に話した。また神の人が王に言った言葉をもその父に話した。
13 12 And their father said to them, "Which way did he go?" For his sons had seen which way the man of God went who came from Judah. 父が彼らに「その人はどの道を行ったか」と聞いたので、むすこたちはユダからきた神の人の行った道を父に示した。
13 13 Then he said to his sons, "Saddle the donkey for me." So they saddled the donkey for him; and he rode on it, 父はむすこたちに言った、「わたしのためにろばにくらを置きなさい」。彼らがろばにくらを置いたので、彼はそれに乗り、
13 14 and went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak. Then he said to him, "Are you the man of God who came from Judah?" And he said, "I am." 神の人のあとを追って行き、かしの木の下にすわっているのを見て、その人に言った、「あなたはユダからこられた神の人ですか」。その人は言った、「そうです」。
13 15 Then he said to him, "Come home with me and eat bread." そこで彼はその人に言った、「わたしと一緒に家にきてパンを食べてください」。
13 16 And he said, "I cannot return with you nor go in with you; neither can I eat bread nor drink water with you in this place. その人は言った、「わたしはあなたと一緒に引き返すことはできません。あなたと一緒に行くことはできません。またわたしはこの所であなたと一緒にパンも食べず水も飲みません。
13 17 For I have been told by the word of the Lord, 'You shall not eat bread nor drink water there, nor return by going the way you came.' " 主の言葉によってわたしは、『その所でパンを食べてはならない、水を飲んではならない。また来た道から帰ってはならない』と言われているからです」。
13 18 He said to him, "I too am a prophet as you are, and an angel spoke to me by the word of the Lord, saying, 'Bring him back with you to your house, that he may eat bread and drink water.' " (He was lying to him.) 彼はその人に言った、「わたしもあなたと同じ預言者ですが、天の使が主の命によってわたしに告げて、『その人を一緒に家につれ帰り、パンを食べさせ、水を飲ませよ』と言いました」。これは彼がその人を欺いたのである。

13 20Now it happened, as they sat at the table, that the word of the Lord came to the prophet who had brought him back; 彼らが食卓についていたとき、主の言葉が、その人をつれて帰った預言者に臨んだので、
13 21 and he cried out to the man of God who came from Judah, saying, "Thus says the Lord: 'Because you have disobeyed the word of the Lord, and have not kept the commandment which the Lord your God commanded you, 彼はユダからきた神の人にむかい呼ばわって言った、「主はこう仰せられます、『あなたが主の言葉にそむき、あなたの神、主がお命じになった命令を守らず、
13 22 but you came back, ate bread, and drank water in the place of which the Lord said to you, "Eat no bread and drink no water," your corpse shall not come to the tomb of your fathers.' " 引き返して、主があなたに、パンを食べてはならない、水を飲んではならない、と言われた場所でパンを食べ、水を飲んだゆえ、あなたの死体はあなたの先祖の墓に行かないであろう』」。
13 23 So it was, after he had eaten bread and after he had drunk, that he saddled the donkey for him, the prophet whom he had brought back. そしてその人がパンを食べ、水を飲んだ後、彼はその人のため、すなわちつれ帰った預言者のためにろばにくらを置いた。
13 24 When he was gone, a lion met him on the road and killed him. And his corpse was thrown on the road, and the donkey stood by it. The lion also stood by the corpse. こうしてその人は立ち去ったが、道でししが彼に会って彼を殺した。そしてその死体は道に捨てられ、ろばはそのかたわらに立ち、ししもまた死体のかたわらに立っていた。
13 25 And there, men passed by and saw the corpse thrown on the road, and the lion standing by the corpse. Then they went and told it in the city where the old prophet dwelt. 人々はそこをとおって、道に捨てられている死体と、死体のかたわらに立っているししを見て、かの老預言者の住んでいる町にきてそれを話した。
13 26 Now when the prophet who had brought him back from the way heard it, he said, "It is the man of God who was disobedient to the word of the Lord. Therefore the Lord has delivered him to the lion, which has torn him and killed him, according to the word of the Lord which He spoke to him." その人を道からつれて帰った預言者はそれを聞いて言った、「それは主の言葉にそむいた神の人だ。主が彼に言われた言葉のように、主は彼をししにわたされ、ししが彼を裂き殺したのだ」。
13 27 And he spoke to his sons, saying, "Saddle the donkey for me." So they saddled it. そしてむすこたちに言った、「わたしのためにろばにくらを置きなさい」。彼らがくらを置いたので、
13 28 Then he went and found his corpse thrown on the road, and the donkey and the lion standing by the corpse. The lion had not eaten the corpse nor torn the donkey. 彼は行って、死体が道に捨てられ、ろばとししが死体のかたわらに立っているのを見た。ししはその死体を食べず、ろばも裂いていなかった。
13 29 And the prophet took up the corpse of the man of God, laid it on the donkey, and brought it back. So the old prophet came to the city to mourn, and to bury him. そこで預言者は神の人の死体を取りあげ、それをろばに載せて町に持ち帰り、悲しんでそれを葬った。
13 30 Then he laid the corpse in his own tomb; and they mourned over him, saying, "Alas, my brother!" すなわちその死体を自分の墓に納め、皆これがために「ああ、わが兄弟よ」と言って悲しんだ。
13 31 So it was, after he had buried him, that he spoke to his sons, saying, "When I am dead, then bury me in the tomb where the man of God is buried; lay my bones beside his bones. 彼はそれを葬って後、むすこたちに言った、「わたしが死んだ時は、神の人を葬った墓に葬り、わたしの骨を彼の骨のかたわらに納めなさい。
13 32 For the saying which he cried out by the word of the Lord against the altar in Bethel, and against all the shrines on the high places which are in the cities of Samaria, will surely come to pass." 彼が主の命によって、ベテルにある祭壇にむかい、またサマリヤの町々にある高き所のすべての家にむかって呼ばわった言葉は必ず成就するのです」。
13 33 After this event Jeroboam did not turn from his evil way, but again he made priests from every class of people for the high places; whoever wished, he consecrated him, and he became one of the priests of the high places. この事の後も、ヤラベアムはその悪い道を離れて立ち返ることをせず、また一般の民を、高き所の祭司に任命した。すなわち、だれでも好む者は、それを立てて高き所の祭司とした。
13 34 And this thing was the sin of the house of Jeroboam, so as to exterminate and destroy it from the face of the earth. この事はヤラベアムの家の罪となって、ついにこれを地のおもてから断ち滅ぼすようになった。
列王記上 1 Kings 14 14
14 1 At that time Abijah the son of Jeroboam became sick. そのころヤラベアムの子アビヤが病気になったので、
14 2 And Jeroboam said to his wife, "Please arise, and disguise yourself, that they may not recognize you as the wife of Jeroboam, and go to Shiloh. Indeed, Ahijah the prophet is there, who told me that I would be king over this people. ヤラベアムは妻に言った、「立って姿を変え、ヤラベアムの妻であることの知られないようにしてシロへ行きなさい。わたしがこの民の王となることを、わたしに告げた預言者アヒヤがそこにいます。
14 3 Also take with you ten loaves, some cakes, and a jar of honey, and go to him; he will tell you what will become of the child." パン十個と菓子数個および、みつ一びんを携えて彼のところへ行きなさい。彼はこの子がどうなるかをあなたに告げるでしょう」。
14 4 And Jeroboam's wife did so; she arose and went to Shiloh, and came to the house of Ahijah. But Ahijah could not see, for his eyes were glazed by reason of his age. ヤラベアムの妻はそのようにして、立ってシロへ行き、アヒヤの家に着いたが、アヒヤは年老いたため、目がかすんで見ることができなかった。
14 5 Now the Lord had said to Ahijah, "Here is the wife of Jeroboam, coming to ask you something about her son, for he is sick. Thus and thus you shall say to her; for it will be, when she comes in, that she will pretend to be another woman." しかし主はアヒヤに言われた、「ヤラベアムの妻が子供の事をあなたに尋ねるために来る。子供は病気だ。あなたは彼女にこうこう言わなければならない」。彼女は来るとき、他人を装っていた。
14 6 And so it was, when Ahijah heard the sound of her footsteps as she came through the door, he said, "Come in, wife of Jeroboam. Why do you pretend to be another person? 14 8 and tore the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it to you; and yet you have not been as My servant David, who kept My commandments and who followed Me with all his heart, to do only what was right in My eyes; 国をダビデの家から裂き離して、それをあなたに与えたのに、あなたはわたしのしもべダビデが、わたしの命令を守って一心にわたしに従い、ただわたしの目にかなった事のみを行ったようにではなく、
14 9 but you have done more evil than all who were before you, for you have gone and made for yourself other gods and molded images to provoke Me to anger, and have cast Me behind your back-- あなたよりも先にいたすべての者にまさって悪をなし、行って自分のために他の神々と鋳た像を造り、わたしを怒らせ、わたしをうしろに捨て去った。
14 10 therefore behold! I will bring disaster on the house of Jeroboam, and will cut off from Jeroboam every male in Israel, bond and free; I will take away the remnant of the house of Jeroboam, as one takes away refuse until it is all gone. それゆえ、見よ、わたしはヤラベアムの家に災を下し、ヤラベアムに属する男は、イスラエルについて、つながれた者も、自由な者もことごとく断ち、人があくたを残りなく焼きつくすように、ヤラベアムの家を全く断ち滅ぼすであろう。
14 11 The dogs shall eat whoever belongs to Jeroboam and dies in the city, and the birds of the air shall eat whoever dies in the field; for the Lord has spoken!" ' ヤラベアムに属する者は、町で死ぬ者を犬が食べ、野で死ぬ者を空の鳥が食べるであろう。主がこれを言われるのである」』。
14 12 Arise therefore, go to your own house. When your feet enter the city, the child shall die. あなたは立って、家へ帰りなさい。あなたの足が町にはいる時に、子どもは死にます。
14 13 And all Israel shall mourn for him and bury him, for he is the only one of Jeroboam who shall come to the grave, because in him there is found something good toward the Lord God of Israel in the house of Jeroboam. そしてイスラエルは皆、彼のために悲しんで彼を葬るでしょう。ヤラベアムに属する者は、ただ彼だけ墓に葬られるでしょう。ヤラベアムの家のうちで、彼はイスラエルの神、主にむかって良い思いをいだいていたからです。
14 14 Moreover the Lord will raise up for Himself a king over Israel who shall cut off the house of Jeroboam; this is the day. What? Even now! 主はイスラエルの上にひとりの王を起されます。彼はその日ヤラベアムの家を断つでしょう。
14 15 For the Lord will strike Israel, as a reed is shaken in the water. He will uproot Israel from this good land which He gave to their fathers, and will scatter them beyond the River, because they have made their wooden images, provoking the Lord to anger. その後主はイスラエルを撃って、水に揺らぐ葦のようにし、イスラエルを、その先祖に賜わったこの良い地から抜き去って、ユフラテ川の向こうに散らされるでしょう。彼らがアシラ像を造って主を怒らせたからです。

14 17 Then Jeroboam's wife arose and departed, and came to Tirzah. When she came to the threshold of the house, the child died. ヤラベアムの妻は立って去り、テルザへ行って、家の敷居をまたいだ時、子どもは死んだ。
14 18 And they buried him; and all Israel mourned for him, according to the word of the Lord which He spoke through His servant Ahijah the prophet. イスラエルは皆彼を葬り、彼のために悲しんだ。主がそのしもべ預言者アヒヤによって言われた言葉のとおりである。
14 19 Now the rest of the acts of Jeroboam, how he made war and how he reigned, indeed they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel. ヤラベアムのその他の事績、彼がどのように戦い、どのように世を治めたかは、イスラエルの王の歴代志の書にしるされている。
14 20 The period that Jeroboam reigned was twenty-two years. So he rested with his fathers. Then Nadab his son reigned in his place. ヤラベアムが世を治めた日は二十二年であった。彼はその先祖と共に眠って、その子ナダブが代って王となった。
14 21 And Rehoboam the son of Solomon reigned in Judah. Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he became king. He reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the Lord had chosen out of all the tribes of Israel, to put His name there. His mother's name was Naamah, an Ammonitess. ソロモンの子レハベアムはユダで世を治めた。レハベアムは王となったとき四十一歳であったが、主がその名を置くために、イスラエルのすべての部族のうちから選ばれた町エルサレムで、十七年世を治めた。その母の名はナアマといってアンモンびとであった。
14 22 Now Judah did evil in the sight of the Lord, and they provoked Him to jealousy with their sins which they committed, more than all that their fathers had done. ユダの人々はその先祖の行ったすべての事にまさって、主の目の前に悪を行い、その犯した罪によって主の怒りを引き起した。
14 23 For they also built for themselves high places, sacred pillars, and wooden images on every high hill and under every green tree. 彼らもすべての高い丘の上と、すべての青木の下に、高き所と石の柱とアシラ像とを建てたからである。

14 25 It happened in the fifth year of King Rehoboam that Shishak king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem. レハベアムの王の第五年にエジプトの王シシャクがエルサレムに攻め上ってきて、
14 26 And he took away the treasures of the house of the Lord and the treasures of the king's house; he took away everything. He also took away all the gold shields which Solomon had made. 主の宮の宝物と、王の宮殿の宝物を奪い去った。彼はそれをことごとく奪い去り、またソロモンの造った金の盾をみな奪い去った。
14 27 Then King Rehoboam made bronze shields in their place, and committed them to the hands of the captains of the guard, who guarded the doorway of the king's house. レハベアムはその代りに青銅の盾を造って、王の宮殿の門を守る侍衛長の手にわたした。
14 28 And whenever the king entered the house of the Lord, the guards carried them, then brought them back into the guardroom. 王が主の宮にはいるごとに、侍衛はそれを携え、また、それを侍衛のへやへ持ち帰った。

15 3 And he walked in all the sins of his father, which he had done before him; his heart was not loyal to the Lord his God, as was the heart of his father David. 彼はその父が先に行ったもろもろの罪をおこない、その心は父ダビデの心のようにその神、主に対して全く真実ではなかった。

15 8 So Abijam rested with his fathers, and they buried him in the City of David. Then Asa his son reigned in his place. アビヤムはその先祖と共に眠って、ダビデの町に葬られ、その子アサが代って王となった。
15 9 In the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Asa became king over Judah. イスラエルの王ヤラベアムの第二十年にアサはユダの王となり、
15 10 And he reigned forty-one years in Jerusalem. His grandmother's name was Maachah the granddaughter of Abishalom. エルサレムで四十一年世を治めた。その母の名はマアカといってアブサロムの娘であった。
15 11 Asa did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, as did his father David. アサはその父ダビデがしたように主の目にかなう事をし、
15 12 And he banished the perverted persons from the land, and removed all the idols that his fathers had made. 神殿男娼を国から追い出し、先祖たちの造ったもろもろの偶像を除いた。
15 13 Also he removed Maachah his grandmother from being queen mother, because she had made an obscene image of Asherah. And Asa cut down her obscene image and burned it by the Brook Kidron. 彼はまたその母マアカが、アシラのために憎むべき像を造らせたので、彼女を太后の位から退けた。そしてアサはその憎むべき像を切り倒してキデロンの谷で焼き捨てた。

15 15 He also brought into the house of the Lord the things which his father had dedicated, and the things which he himself had dedicated: silver and gold and utensils. 彼は父の献納した物と自分の献納した物、金銀および器物を主の宮に携え入れた。
15 16 Now there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel all their days. アサとイスラエルの王バアシャの間には一生の間、戦争があった。
15 17 And Baasha king of Israel came up against Judah, and built Ramah, that he might let none go out or come in to Asa king of Judah. イスラエルの王バアシャはユダに攻め上り、ユダの王アサの所に、だれをも出入りさせないためにラマを築いた。
15 18 Then Asa took all the silver and gold that was left in the treasuries of the house of the Lord and the treasuries of the king's house, and delivered them into the hand of his servants. And King Asa sent them to Ben-Hadad the son of Tabrimmon, the son of Hezion, king of Syria, who dwelt in Damascus, saying, そこでアサは主の宮の宝蔵と、王の宮殿の宝蔵に残っている金銀をことごとく取って、これを家来たちの手にわたし、そしてアサ王は彼らをダマスコに住んでいるスリヤの王、ヘジョンの子タブリモンの子であるベネハダデにつかわして言わせた、
15 19 "Let there be a treaty between you and me, as there was between my father and your father. See, I have sent you a present of silver and gold. Come and break your treaty with Baasha king of Israel, so that he will withdraw from me." 「わたしの父とあなたの父のとの間に結ばれていたように、わたしとあなたの間に同盟を結びましょう。わたしはあなたに金銀の贈り物をさしあげます。行って、あなたとイスラエルの王バアシャとの同盟を破棄し、彼をわたしの所から撤退させてください」。
15 20 So Ben-Hadad heeded King Asa, and sent the captains of his armies against the cities of Israel. He attacked Ijon, Dan, Abel Beth Maachah, and all Chinneroth, with all the land of Naphtali. ベネハダデはアサ王の言うことを聞き、自分の軍勢の長たちをつかわしてイスラエルの町々を攻め、イヨンとダンとアベル・ベテ・マアカおよびキンネレテの全地と、ナフタリの全地を撃った。

15 22 Then King Asa made a proclamation throughout all Judah; none was exempted. And they took away the stones and timber of Ramah, which Baasha had used for building; and with them King Asa built Geba of Benjamin, and Mizpah. そこでアサ王はユダ全国に布告を発した。ひとりも免れる者はなかった。すなわちバアシャがラマを築くために用いた石と材木を運びこさせ、アサ王はそれを用いて、ベニヤミンのゲバとミヅパを築いた。

But in the time of his old age he was diseased in his feet. アサのその他の事績とそのすべての勲功と、彼がしたすべての事および彼が建てた町々は、ユダの王の歴代志の書にしるされているではないか。彼は老年になって足を病んだ。
15 24 So Asa rested with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the City of David his father. Then Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his place. アサはその先祖と共に眠って、父ダビデの町に先祖と共に葬られ、その子ヨシャパテが代って王となった。

15 27 Then Baasha the son of Ahijah, of the house of Issachar, conspired against him. And Baasha killed him at Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines, while Nadab and all Israel laid siege to Gibbethon. イッサカルの家のアヒヤの子バアシャは彼に対してむほんを企て、ペリシテびとに属するギベトンで彼を撃った。これはナダブとイスラエルが皆ギベトンを囲んでいたからである。
15 28 Baasha killed him in the third year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned in his place. こうしてユダの王アサの第三年にバアシャは彼を殺し、彼に代って王となった。
15 29 And it was so, when he became king, that he killed all the house of Jeroboam. 15 33 In the third year of Asa king of Judah, Baasha the son of Ahijah became king over all Israel in Tirzah, and reigned twenty-four years. ユダの王アサの第三年にアヒヤの子バアシャはテルザでイスラエルの全地の王となって、二十四年世を治めた。
15 34 He did evil in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin by which he had made Israel sin. 彼は主の目の前に悪を行い、ヤラベアムの道に歩み、ヤラベアムがイスラエルに犯させた罪をおこなった。

16 1 Then the word of the Lord came to Jehu the son of Hanani, against Baasha, saying: そこで主の言葉がハナニの子エヒウに臨み、バアシャを責めて言った、
16 2 "Inasmuch as I lifted you out of the dust and made you ruler over My people Israel, and you have walked in the way of Jeroboam, and have made My people Israel sin, to provoke Me to anger with their sins, 「わたしはあなたをちりの中からあげて、わたしの民イスラエルの上に君としたが、あなたはヤラベアムの道に歩み、わたしの民イスラエルに罪を犯させ、その罪をもってわたしを怒らせた。
16 3 surely I will take away the posterity of Baasha and the posterity of his house, and I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat. それでわたしは、バアシャとその家を全く滅ぼし去り、あなたの家をネバテの子ヤラベアムの家のようにする。
16 4 The dogs shall eat whoever belongs to Baasha and dies in the city, and the birds of the air shall eat whoever dies in the fields." バアシャに属する者で、町で死ぬ者は犬が食べ、彼に属する者で、野で死ぬ者は空の鳥が食べるであろう」。

16 6 So Baasha rested with his fathers and was buried in Tirzah. Then Elah his son reigned in his place. バアシャはその先祖と共に眠って、テルザに葬られ、その子エラが代って王となった。
16 7 And also the word of the Lord came by the prophet Jehu the son of Hanani against Baasha and his house, because of all the evil that he did in the sight of the Lord in provoking Him to anger with the work of his hands, in being like the house of Jeroboam, and because he killed them. 主の言葉はまたハナニの子預言者エヒウによって臨み、バアシャとその家を責めた。これは彼が主の目の前に、もろもろの悪を行い、その手のわざをもって主を怒らせ、ヤラベアムの家にならったためであり、また彼がヤラベアムの家を滅ぼしたためであった。

16 9 Now his servant Zimri, commander of half his chariots, conspired against him as he was in Tirzah drinking himself drunk in the house of Arza, steward of his house in Tirzah. 彼がテルザにいて、テルザの宮殿のつかさアルザの家で酒を飲んで酔った時、その家来で戦車隊の半ばを指揮していたジムリが、彼にそむいた。
16 10 And Zimri went in and struck him and killed him in the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, and reigned in his place. そしてユダの王アサの第二十七年にジムリは、はいってきて彼を撃ち殺し、彼に代って王となった。
16 11 Then it came to pass, when he began to reign, as soon as he was seated on his throne, that he killed all the household of Baasha; he did not leave him one male, neither of his relatives nor of his friends. ジムリは王となって、位についた時、バアシャの全家を殺し、その親族または友だちの男子は、ひとりも残さなかった。
16 12 Thus Zimri destroyed all the household of Baasha, according to the word of the Lord, which He spoke against Baasha by Jehu the prophet, こうしてジムリはバアシャの全家を滅ぼした。主が預言者エヒウによってバアシャを責めて言われた言葉のとおりである。

16 15 In the twenty-seventh year of Asa king of Judah, Zimri had reigned in Tirzah seven days. And the people were encamped against Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines. ユダの王アサの第二十七年にジムリはテルザで七日の間、世を治めた。民はペリシテびとに属するギベトンにむかって陣取っていたが、
16 16 Now the people who were encamped heard it said, "Zimri has conspired and also has killed the king." So all Israel made Omri, the commander of the army, king over Israel that day in the camp. その陣取っていた民が「ジムリはむほんを起して王を殺した」と人のいうのを聞いたので、イスラエルは皆その日陣営で、軍の長オムリをイスラエルの王とした。
16 17Then Omri and all Israel with him went up from Gibbethon, and they besieged Tirzah. そこでオムリはイスラエルの人々と共にギベトンから上ってテルザを囲んだ。
16 18And it happened, when Zimri saw that the city was taken, that he went into the citadel of the king's house and burned the king's house down upon himself with fire, and died, ジムリはその町の陥るのを見て、王の宮殿の天守にはいり、王の宮殿に火をかけてその中で死んだ。
16 19because of the sins which he had committed in doing evil in the sight of the Lord, in walking in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin which he had committed to make Israel sin. これは彼が犯した罪のためであって、彼が主の目の前に悪を行い、ヤラベアムの道に歩み、ヤラベアムがイスラエルに犯させたその罪を行ったからである。

16 21 Then the people of Israel were divided into two parts: half of the people followed Tibni the son of Ginath, to make him king, and half followed Omri. その時イスラエルの民は二つに分れ、民の半ばはギナテの子テブニに従って、これを王としようとし、半ばはオムリに従った。
16 22 But the people who followed Omri prevailed over the people who followed Tibni the son of Ginath. So Tibni died and Omri reigned. しかしオムリに従った民はギナテの子テブニに従った民に勝って、テブニは死に、オムリが王となった。
16 23 In the thirty-first year of Asa king of Judah, Omri became king over Israel, and reigned twelve years. Six years he reigned in Tirzah. ユダの王アサの第三十一年にオムリはイスラエルの王となって十二年世を治めた。彼はテルザで六年王であった。
16 24 And he bought the hill of Samaria from Shemer for two talents of silver; then he built on the hill, and called the name of the city which he built, Samaria, after the name of Shemer, owner of the hill. 彼は銀二タラントでセメルからサマリヤの山を買い、その上に町を建て、その建てた町の名をその山の持ち主であったセメルの名に従ってサマリヤと呼んだ。

16 28 So Omri rested with his fathers and was buried in Samaria. Then Ahab his son reigned in his place. オムリはその先祖と共に眠って、サマリヤに葬られ、その子アハブが代って王となった。
16 29 In the thirty-eighth year of Asa king of Judah, Ahab the son of Omri became king over Israel; and Ahab the son of Omri reigned over Israel in Samaria twenty-two years. ユダの王アサの第三十八年にオムリの子アハブがイスラエルの王となった。オムリの子アハブはサマリヤで二十二年イスラエルを治めた。
16 30 Now Ahab the son of Omri did evil in the sight of the Lord, more than all who were before him. オムリの子アハブは彼よりも先にいたすべての者にまさって、主の目の前に悪を行った。
16 31 And it came to pass, as though it had been a trivial thing for him to walk in the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, that he took as wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal, king of the Sidonians; and he went and served Baal and worshiped him. 彼はネバテの子ヤラベアムの罪を行うことを、軽い事とし、シドンびとの王エテバアルの娘イゼベルを妻にめとり、行ってバアルに仕え、これを拝んだ。

16 34 In his days Hiel of Bethel built Jericho. 17 3 "Get away from here and turn eastward, and hide by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan. 「ここを去って東におもむき、ヨルダンの東にあるケリテ川のほとりに身を隠しなさい。
17 4 And it will be that you shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there." そしてその川の水を飲みなさい。わたしはからすに命じて、そこであなたを養わせよう」。
17 5 So he went and did according to the word of the Lord, for he went and stayed by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan. エリヤは行って、主の言葉のとおりにした。すなわち行って、ヨルダンの東にあるケリテ川のほとりに住んだ。
17 6 The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the brook. すると、からすが朝ごとに彼の所にパンと肉を運び、また夕ごとにパンと肉を運んできた。そして彼はその川の水を飲んだ。
17 7 And it happened after a while that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land. しかし国に雨がなかったので、しばらくしてその川はかれた。
17 8 Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying, その時、主の言葉が彼に臨んで言った、
17 9 "Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. See, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you." 「立ってシドンに属するザレパテへ行って、そこに住みなさい。わたしはそのところのやもめ女に命じてあなたを養わせよう」。
17 10 So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, indeed a widow was there gathering sticks. And he called to her and said, "Please bring me a little water in a cup, that I may drink." そこで彼は立ってザレパテへ行ったが、町の門に着いたとき、ひとりのやもめ女が、その所でたきぎを拾っていた。彼はその女に声をかけて言った、「器に水を少し持ってきて、わたしに飲ませてください」。
17 11 And as she was going to get it, he called to her and said, "Please bring me a morsel of bread in your hand." 彼女が行って、それを持ってこようとした時、彼は彼女を呼んで言った、「手に一口のパンを持ってきてください」。

17 15 So she went away and did according to the word of Elijah; and she and he and her household ate for many days. 彼女は行って、エリヤが言ったとおりにした。彼女と彼および彼女の家族は久しく食べた。

17 17 Now it happened after these things that the son of the woman who owned the house became sick. And his sickness was so serious that there was no breath left in him. これらの事の後、その家の主婦であるこの女の男の子が病気になった。その病気はたいそう重く、息が絶えたので、

17 21 And he stretched himself out on the child three times, and cried out to the Lord and said, "O Lord my God, I pray, let this child's soul come back to him." そして三度その子供の上に身を伸ばし、主に呼ばわって言った、「わが神、主よ、この子供の魂をもとに帰らせてください」。
17 22 Then the Lord heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came back to him, and he revived. 主はエリヤの声を聞きいれられたので、その子供の魂はもとに帰って、彼は生きかえった。
17 23 And Elijah took the child and brought him down from the upper room into the house, and gave him to his mother. And Elijah said, "See, your son lives!" エリヤはその子供を取って屋上のへやから家の中につれて降り、その母にわたして言った、「ごらんなさい。あなたの子は生きかえりました」。
17 24 Then the woman said to Elijah, "Now by this I know that you are a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in your mouth is the truth." 女はエリヤに言った、「今わたしはあなたが神の人であることと、あなたの口にある主の言葉が真実であることを知りました」。
列王記上 1 Kings 18 18
18 1 And it came to pass after many days that the word of the Lord came to Elijah, in the third year, saying, "Go, present yourself to Ahab, and I will send rain on the earth." 多くの日を経て、三年目に主の言葉がエリヤに臨んだ、「行って、あなたの身をアハブに示しなさい。わたしは雨を地に降らせる」。

18 5 And Ahab had said to Obadiah, "Go into the land to all the springs of water and to all the brooks; perhaps we may find grass to keep the horses and mules alive, so that we will not have to kill any livestock." アハブはオバデヤに言った、「国中のすべての水の源と、すべての川に行ってみるがよい。馬と騾馬を生かしておくための草があるかもしれない。そうすれば、われわれは家畜をいくぶんでも失わずにすむであろう」。
18 6 So they divided the land between them to explore it; Ahab went one way by himself, and Obadiah went another way by himself. 彼らは行き巡る地をふたりで分け、アハブはひとりでこの道を行き、オバデヤはひとりで他の道を行った。
18 7Now as Obadiah was on his way, suddenly Elijah met him; and he recognized him, and fell on his face, and said, "Is that you, my lord Elijah?" オバデヤが道を進んでいた時、エリヤが彼に会った。彼はエリヤを認めて伏して言った、「わが主エリヤよ、あなたはここにおられるのですか」。

18 12 And it shall come to pass, as soon as I am gone from you, that the Spirit of the Lord will carry you to a place I do not know; so when I go and tell Ahab, and he cannot find you, he will kill me. But I your servant have feared the Lord from my youth. しかしわたしがあなたを離れて行くと、主の霊はあなたを、わたしの知らない所へ連れて行くでしょう。わたしが行ってアハブに告げ、彼があなたを見つけることができなければ、彼はわたしを殺すでしょう。しかし、しもべは幼い時から主を恐れている者です。
18 13 Was it not reported to my lord what I did when Jezebel killed the prophets of the Lord, how I hid one hundred men of the Lord's prophets, fifty to a cave, and fed them with bread and water? イゼベルが主の預言者を殺した時に、わたしがした事、すなわち、わたしが主の預言者のうち百人を五十人ずつほら穴に隠して、パンと水をもって養った事を、わが主は聞かれませんでしたか。
18 14 And now you say, 'Go, tell your master, "Elijah is here." ' He will kill me!" ところが今あなたは『行って、エリヤはここにいると主人に告げよ』と言われます。そのようなことをすれば彼はわたしを殺すでしょう」。
18 15 Then Elijah said, "As the Lord of hosts lives, before whom I stand, I will surely present myself to him today." エリヤは言った、「わたしの仕える万軍の主は生きておられる。わたしは必ず、きょう、わたしの身を彼に示すであろう」。
18 16 So Obadiah went to meet Ahab, and told him; and Ahab went to meet Elijah. オバデヤは行ってアハブに会い、彼に告げたので、アハブはエリヤに会おうとして行った。
18 17 Then it happened, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said to him, "Is that you, O troubler of Israel?" アハブはエリヤを見たとき、彼に言った、「イスラエルを悩ます者よ、あなたはここにいるのですか」。

18 20 So Ahab sent for all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together on Mount Carmel. そこでアハブはイスラエルのすべての人に人をつかわして、預言者たちをカルメル山に集めた。
18 21 And Elijah came to all the people, and said, "How long will you falter between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him." But the people answered him not a word. そのときエリヤはすべての民に近づいて言った、「あなたがたはいつまで二つのものの間に迷っているのですか。主が神ならばそれに従いなさい。しかしバアルが神ならば、それに従いなさい」。民はひと言も彼に答えなかった。
18 22 Then Elijah said to the people, "I alone am left a prophet of the Lord; but Baal's prophets are four hundred and fifty men. エリヤは民に言った、「わたしはただひとり残った主の預言者です。しかしバアルの預言者は四百五十人あります。
18 23 Therefore let them give us two bulls; and let them choose one bull for themselves, cut it in pieces, and lay it on the wood, but put no fire under it; and I will prepare the other bull, and lay it on the wood, but put no fire under it. われわれに二頭の牛をください。そして一頭の牛を彼らに選ばせ、それを切り裂いて、たきぎの上に載せ、それに火をつけずにおかせなさい。わたしも一頭の牛を整え、それをたきぎの上に載せて火をつけずにおきましょう。
18 24 Then you call on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the Lord; and the God who answers by fire, He is God." So all the people answered and said, "It is well spoken." こうしてあなたがたはあなたがたの神の名を呼びなさい。わたしは主の名を呼びましょう。そして火をもって答える神を神としましょう」。民は皆答えて「それがよかろう」と言った。
18 25 Now Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, "Choose one bull for yourselves and prepare it first, for you are many; and call on the name of your god, but put no fire under it." そこでエリヤはバアルの預言者たちに言った、「あなたがたは大ぜいだから初めに一頭の牛を選んで、それを整え、あなたがたの神の名を呼びなさい。ただし火をつけてはなりません」。
18 26 So they took the bull which was given them, and they prepared it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even till noon, saying, "O Baal, hear us!" But there was no voice; no one answered. Then they leaped about the altar which they had made. 彼らは与えられた牛を取って整え、朝から昼までバアルの名を呼んで「バアルよ、答えてください」と言った。しかしなんの声もなく、また答える者もなかったので、彼らは自分たちの造った祭壇のまわりに踊った。
18 27 And so it was, at noon, that Elijah mocked them and said, "Cry aloud, for he is a god; either he is meditating, or he is busy, or he is on a journey, or perhaps he is sleeping and must be awakened." 昼になってエリヤは彼らをあざけって言った、「彼は神だから、大声をあげて呼びなさい。彼は考えにふけっているのか、よそへ行ったのか、旅に出たのか、または眠っていて起されなければならないのか」。

18 30Then Elijah said to all the people, "Come near to me." So all the people came near to him. And he repaired the altar of the Lord that was broken down. その時エリヤはすべての民にむかって「わたしに近寄りなさい」と言ったので、民は皆彼に近寄った。彼はこわれている主の祭壇を繕った。
18 31 And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the Lord had come, saying, "Israel shall be your name." そしてエリヤは昔、主の言葉がヤコブに臨んで、「イスラエルをあなたの名とせよ」と言われたヤコブの子らの部族の数にしたがって十二の石を取り、
18 32 Then with the stones he built an altar in the name of the Lord; and he made a trench around the altar large enough to hold two seahs of seed. その石で主の名によって祭壇を築き、祭壇の周囲に種二セヤをいれるほどの大きさの、みぞを作った。
18 33 And he put the wood in order, cut the bull in pieces, and laid it on the wood, and said, "Fill four waterpots with water, and pour it on the burnt sacrifice and on the wood." また、たきぎを並べ、牛を切り裂いてたきぎの上に載せて言った、「四つのかめに水を満たし、それを燔祭とたきぎの上に注げ」。
18 34 Then he said, "Do it a second time," and they did it a second time; and he said, "Do it a third time," and they did it a third time. また言った、「それを二度せよ」。二度それをすると、また言った、「三度それをせよ」。三度それをした。
18 35 So the water ran all around the altar; and he also filled the trench with water. 水は祭壇の周囲に流れた。またみぞにも水を満たした。
18 36 And it came to pass, at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near and said, "Lord God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, let it be known this day that You are God in Israel and I am Your servant, and that I have done all these things at Your word. 夕の供え物をささげる時になって、預言者エリヤは近寄って言った、「アブラハム、イサク、ヤコブの神、主よ、イスラエルでは、あなたが神であること、わたしがあなたのしもべであって、あなたの言葉に従ってこのすべての事を行ったことを、今日知らせてください。

18 38 Then the fire of the Lord fell and consumed the burnt sacrifice, and the wood and the stones and the dust, and it licked up the water that was in the trench. そのとき主の火が下って燔祭と、たきぎと、石と、ちりとを焼きつくし、またみぞの水をなめつくした。
18 39 Now when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces; and they said, "The Lord, He is God! The Lord, He is God!" 民は皆見て、ひれ伏して言った、「主が神である。主が神である」。
18 40 And Elijah said to them, "Seize the prophets of Baal! Do not let one of them escape!" So they seized them; and Elijah brought them down to the Brook Kishon and executed them there. エリヤは彼らに言った、「バアルの預言者を捕えよ。そのひとりも逃がしてはならない」。そこで彼らを捕えたので、エリヤは彼らをキション川に連れくだって、そこで彼らを殺した。
18 41 Then Elijah said to Ahab, "Go up, eat and drink; for there is the sound of abundance of rain." エリヤはアハブに言った、「大雨の音がするから、上って行って、食い飲みしなさい」。
18 42 So Ahab went up to eat and drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; then he bowed down on the ground, and put his face between his knees, アハブは食い飲みするために上っていった。しかしエリヤはカルメルの頂に登り、地に伏して顔をひざの間に入れていたが、
18 43 and said to his servant, "Go up now, look toward the sea." So he went up and looked, and said, "There is nothing." And seven times he said, "Go again." 彼はしもべに言った、「上っていって海の方を見なさい」。彼は上っていって、見て、「何もありません」と言ったので、エリヤは「もう一度行きなさい」と言って七度に及んだ。
18 44 Then it came to pass the seventh time, that he said, "There is a cloud, as small as a man's hand, rising out of the sea!" 18 45 Now it happened in the meantime that the sky became black with clouds and wind, and there was a heavy rain. So Ahab rode away and went to Jezreel. すると間もなく、雲と風が起り、空が黒くなって大雨が降ってきた。アハブは車に乗ってエズレルへ行った。
18 46 Then the hand of the Lord came upon Elijah; and he girded up his loins and ran ahead of Ahab to the entrance of Jezreel. また主の手がエリヤに臨んだので、彼は腰をからげ、エズレルの入口までアハブの前に走っていった。
列王記上 1 Kings 19 19
19 1 And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, also how he had executed all the prophets with the sword. アハブはエリヤのしたすべての事、また彼がすべての預言者を刀で殺したことをイゼベルに告げたので、
19 2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, "So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time." イゼベルは使者をエリヤにつかわして言った、「もしわたしが、あすの今ごろ、あなたの命をあの人々のひとりの命のようにしていないならば、神々がどんなにでも、わたしを罰してくださるように」。
19 3 And when he saw that, he arose and ran for his life, and went to Beersheba, which belongs to Judah, and left his servant there. そこでエリヤは恐れて、自分の命を救うために立って逃げ、ユダに属するベエルシバへ行って、しもべをそこに残し、
19 4 But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he prayed that he might die, and said, "It is enough! Now, Lord, take my life, for I am no better than my fathers!" 自分は一日の道のりほど荒野にはいって行って、れだまの木の下に座し、自分の死を求めて言った、「主よ、もはや、じゅうぶんです。今わたしの命を取ってください。わたしは先祖にまさる者ではありません」。
19 5 Then as he lay and slept under a broom tree, suddenly an angel touched him, and said to him, "Arise and eat." 彼はれだまの木の下に伏して眠ったが、天の使が彼にさわり、「起きて食べなさい」と言ったので、
19 6 Then he looked, and there by his head was a cake baked on coals, and a jar of water. So he ate and drank, and lay down again. 起きて見ると、頭のそばに、焼け石の上で焼いたパン一個と、一びんの水があった。彼は食べ、かつ飲んでまた寝た。
19 7 And the angel of the Lord came back the second time, and touched him, and said, "Arise and eat, because the journey is too great for you." 主の使は再びきて、彼にさわって言った、「起きて食べなさい。道が遠くて耐えられないでしょうから」。
19 8 So he arose, and ate and drank; and he went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights as far as Horeb, the mountain of God. 彼は起きて食べ、かつ飲み、その食物で力づいて四十日四十夜行って、神の山ホレブに着いた。
19 9 And there he went into a cave, and spent the night in that place; and behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and He said to him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?" その所で彼はほら穴にはいって、そこに宿ったが、主の言葉が彼に臨んで、彼に言われた、「エリヤよ、あなたはここで何をしているのか」。
19 10 So he said, "I have been very zealous for the Lord God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. 19 11 Then He said, "Go out, and stand on the mountain before the Lord." 19 13 So it was, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. Suddenly a voice came to him, and said, "What are you doing here, Elijah?" エリヤはそれを聞いて顔を外套に包み、出てほら穴の口に立つと、彼に語る声が聞えた、「エリヤよ、あなたはここで何をしているのか」。
19 14 And he said, "I have been very zealous for the Lord God of hosts; because the children of Israel have forsaken Your covenant, torn down Your altars, and killed Your prophets with the sword. 19 17 It shall be that whoever escapes the sword of Hazael, Jehu will kill; and whoever escapes the sword of Jehu, Elisha will kill. ハザエルのつるぎをのがれる者をエヒウが殺し、エヒウのつるぎをのがれる者をエリシャが殺すであろう。
19 18 Yet I have reserved seven thousand in Israel, all whose knees have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him." また、わたしはイスラエルのうちに七千人を残すであろう。皆バアルにひざをかがめず、それに口づけしない者である」。
19 19 So he departed from there, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he was with the twelfth. 19 21 So Elisha turned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen and slaughtered them and boiled their flesh, using the oxen's equipment, and gave it to the people, and they ate. 20 1 Now Ben-Hadad the king of Syria gathered all his forces together; thirty-two kings were with him, with horses and chariots. And he went up and besieged Samaria, and made war against it. スリヤの王ベネハダデはその軍勢をことごとく集めた。三十二人の王が彼と共におり、また馬と戦車もあった。彼は上ってサマリヤを囲み、これを攻めた。
20 2 Then he sent messengers into the city to Ahab king of Israel, and said to him, "Thus says Ben-Hadad: また彼は町に使者をつかわし、イスラエルの王アハブに言った、「ベネハダデはこう申します、
20 3 'Your silver and your gold are mine; your loveliest wives and children are mine.' " 『あなたの金銀はわたしのもの、またあなたの妻たちと子供たちの最も美しい者もわたしのものです』」。
20 4 And the king of Israel answered and said, "My lord, O king, just as you say, I and all that I have are yours." イスラエルの王は答えた、「王、わが主よ、仰せのとおり、わたしと、わたしの持ち物は皆あなたのものです」。
20 5 Then the messengers came back and said, "Thus speaks Ben-Hadad, saying, 'Indeed I have sent to you, saying, "You shall deliver to me your silver and your gold, your wives and your children"; 使者は再びきて言った、「ベネハダデはこう申します、『わたしはさきに人をつかわして、あなたの金銀、妻子を引きわたせと言いました。
20 6 but I will send my servants to you tomorrow about this time, and they shall search your house and the houses of your servants. And it shall be, that whatever is pleasant in your eyes, they will put it in their hands and take it.' " しかし、あすの今ごろ、しもべたちをあなたにつかわします。彼らはあなたの家と、あなたの家来の家を探って、すべて彼らの気にいる物を手に入れて奪い去るでしょう』」。
20 7 So the king of Israel called all the elders of the land, and said, "Notice, please, and see how this man seeks trouble, for he sent to me for my wives, my children, my silver, and my gold; and I did not deny him." そこでイスラエルの王は国の長老をことごとく召して言った、「よく注意して、この人が無理な事を求めているのを知りなさい。彼は人をつかわして、わたしの妻子と金銀を求めたが、わたしはそれを拒まなかった」。
20 8 And all the elders and all the people said to him, "Do not listen or consent." すべての長老および民は皆彼に言った、「聞いてはなりません。承諾してはなりません」。
20 9 Therefore he said to the messengers of Ben-Hadad, "Tell my lord the king, 'All that you sent for to your servant the first time I will do, but this thing I cannot do.' " And the messengers departed and brought back word to him. それで彼はベネハダデの使者に言った、「王、わが主に告げなさい。『あなたが初めに要求されたことは皆いたしましょう。しかし今度の事はできません』」。使者は去って復命した。
20 10 Then Ben-Hadad sent to him and said, "The gods do so to me, and more also, if enough dust is left of Samaria for a handful for each of the people who follow me." ベネハダデは彼に人をつかわして言った、「もしサマリヤのちりが、わたしに従うすべての民の手を満たすに足りるならば、神々がどんなにでも、わたしを罰してくださるように」。
20 11 So the king of Israel answered and said, "Tell him, 'Let not the one who puts on his armor boast like the one who takes it off.' " イスラエルの王は答えた、「『武具を帯びる者は、それを脱ぐ者のように誇ってはならない』と告げなさい」。
20 12 And it happened when Ben-Hadad heard this message, as he and the kings were drinking at the command post, that he said to his servants, "Get ready." And they got ready to attack the city. ベネハダデは仮小屋で、王たちと酒を飲んでいたが、この事を聞いて、その家来たちに言った、「戦いの備えをせよ」。彼らは町にむかって戦いの備えをした。
20 13 Suddenly a prophet approached Ahab king of Israel, saying, "Thus says the Lord: 'Have you seen all this great multitude? Behold, I will deliver it into your hand today, and you shall know that I am the Lord.' " この時ひとりの預言者がイスラエルの王アハブのもとにきて言った、「主はこう仰せられる、『あなたはこの大軍を見たか。わたしはきょう、これをあなたの手にわたす。あなたは、わたしが主であることを、知るようになるであろう』」。
20 14 So Ahab said, "By whom?" And he said, "Thus says the Lord: 'By the young leaders of the provinces.' " Then he said, "Who will set the battle in order?" And he answered, "You." アハブは言った、「だれにさせましょうか」。彼は言った、「主はこう仰せられる、『地方の代官の家来たちにさせよ』」。アハブは言った、「だれが戦いを始めましょうか」。彼は答えた、「あなたです」。
20 15 Then he mustered the young leaders of the provinces, and there were two hundred and thirty-two; and after them he mustered all the people, all the children of Israel--seven thousand. そこでアハブは地方の代官の家来たちを調べたところ二百三十二人あった。次にすべての民、すなわちイスラエルのすべての人を調べたところ七千人あった。
20 16So they went out at noon. Meanwhile Ben-Hadad and the thirty-two kings helping him were getting drunk at the command post. 彼らは昼ごろ出ていったが、ベネハダデは仮小屋で、味方の三十二人の王たちと共に酒を飲んで酔っていた。
20 17 The young leaders of the provinces went out first. And Ben-Hadad sent out a patrol, and they told him, saying, "Men are coming out of Samaria!" 地方の代官の家来たちが先に出ていった。ベネハダデは斥候をつかわしたが、彼らは「サマリヤから人々が出てきた」と報告したので、
20 18 So he said, "If they have come out for peace, take them alive; and if they have come out for war, take them alive." 彼は言った、「和解のために出てきたのであっても、生どりにせよ。また戦いのために出てきたのであっても、生どりにせよ」。
20 19 Then these young leaders of the provinces went out of the city with the army which followed them. 地方の代官の家来たちと、それに従う軍勢が町から出ていって、
20 20 And each one killed his man; so the Syrians fled, and Israel pursued them; and Ben-Hadad the king of Syria escaped on a horse with the cavalry. おのおのその相手を撃ち殺したので、スリヤびとは逃げた。イスラエルはこれを追ったが、スリヤの王ベネハダデは馬に乗り、騎兵を従えてのがれた。
20 21 Then the king of Israel went out and attacked the horses and chariots, and killed the Syrians with a great slaughter. イスラエルの王は出ていって、馬と戦車をぶんどり、また大いにスリヤびとを撃ち殺した。
20 22 And the prophet came to the king of Israel and said to him, "Go, strengthen yourself; take note, and see what you should do, for in the spring of the year the king of Syria will come up against you." 時に、かの預言者がイスラエルの王のもとにきて言った、「行って、力を養い、なすべき事をよく考えなさい。来年の春にはスリヤの王が、あなたのところに攻め上ってくるからです」。
20 23 Then the servants of the king of Syria said to him, "Their gods are gods of the hills. Therefore they were stronger than we; but if we fight against them in the plain, surely we will be stronger than they. スリヤの王の家来たちは王に言った、「彼らの神々は山の神ですから彼らがわれわれよりも強かったのです。もしわれわれが平地で戦うならば、必ず彼らよりも強いでしょう。
20 24 So do this thing: Dismiss the kings, each from his position, and put captains in their places; それでこうしなさい。王たちをおのおのその地位から退かせ、総督を置いてそれに代らせなさい。
20 25 and you shall muster an army like the army that you have lost, horse for horse and chariot for chariot. Then we will fight against them in the plain; surely we will be stronger than they." And he listened to their voice and did so. またあなたが失った軍勢に等しい軍勢を集め、馬は馬、戦車は戦車をもって補いなさい。こうしてわれわれが平地で戦うならば必ず彼らよりも強いでしょう」。彼はその言葉を聞きいれて、そのようにした。
20 26 So it was, in the spring of the year, that Ben-Hadad mustered the Syrians and went up to Aphek to fight against Israel. 春になって、ベネハダデはスリヤびとを集めて、イスラエルと戦うために、アペクに上ってきた。
20 27 And the children of Israel were mustered and given provisions, and they went against them. Now the children of Israel encamped before them like two little flocks of goats, while the Syrians filled the countryside. イスラエルの人々は召集され、糧食を受けて彼らを迎え撃つために出かけた。イスラエルの人々はやぎの二つの小さい群れのように彼らの前に陣取ったが、スリヤびとはその地に満ちていた。
20 28 Then a man of God came and spoke to the king of Israel, and said, "Thus says the Lord: 'Because the Syrians have said, "The Lord is God of the hills, but He is not God of the valleys," therefore I will deliver all this great multitude into your hand, and you shall know that I am the Lord.' " その時神の人がきて、イスラエルの王に言った、「主はこう仰せられる、『スリヤびとが、主は山の神であって、谷の神ではないと言っているから、わたしはこのすべての大軍をあなたの手にわたす。あなたは、わたしが主であることを知るようになるであろう』」。
20 29 And they encamped opposite each other for seven days. So it was that on the seventh day the battle was joined; and the children of Israel killed one hundred thousand foot soldiers of the Syrians in one day. 彼らは七日の間、互にむかいあって陣取り、七日目になって戦いを交えたが、イスラエルの人々は一日にスリヤびとの歩兵十万人を殺した。
20 30 But the rest fled to Aphek, into the city; then a wall fell on twenty-seven thousand of the men who were left. And Ben-Hadad fled and went into the city, into an inner chamber. そのほかの者はアペクの町に逃げこんだが、城壁がくずれて、その残った二万七千人の上に倒れた。ベネハダデは逃げて町に入り、奥の間にはいった。
20 31 Then his servants said to him, "Look now, we have heard that the kings of the house of Israel are merciful kings. Please, let us put sackcloth around our waists and ropes around our heads, and go out to the king of Israel; perhaps he will spare your life." 家来たちは彼に言った、「イスラエルの家の王たちはあわれみ深い王であると聞いています。それでわれわれの腰に荒布をつけ、くびになわをかけて、イスラエルの王の所へ行かせてください。たぶん彼はあなたの命を助けるでしょう」。
20 32 So they wore sackcloth around their waists and put ropes around their heads, and came to the king of Israel and said, "Your servant Ben-Hadad says, 'Please let me live.' " And he said, "Is he still alive? He is my brother." そこで彼らは荒布を腰にまき、なわをくびにかけてイスラエルの王の所へ行って言った、「あなたのしもべベネハダデが『どうぞ、わたしの命を助けてください』と申しています」。アハブは言った、「彼はまだ生きているのですか。彼はわたしの兄弟です」。
20 33 Now the men were watching closely to see whether any sign of mercy would come from him; and they quickly grasped at this word and said, "Your brother Ben-Hadad." So he said, "Go, bring him." Then Ben-Hadad came out to him; and he had him come up into the chariot. その人々はこれを吉兆としてすみやかに彼の言葉をうけ、「そうです。ベネハダデはあなたの兄弟です」と言ったので、彼は言った、「行って彼をつれてきなさい」。それでベネハダデは彼の所に出てきたので、彼はこれを自分の車に乗せた。
20 34 So Ben-Hadad said to him, "The cities which my father took from your father I will restore; and you may set up marketplaces for yourself in Damascus, as my father did in Samaria." Then Ahab said, "I will send you away with this treaty." 20 36 Then he said to him, "Because you have not obeyed the voice of the Lord, surely, as soon as you depart from me, a lion shall kill you." And as soon as he left him, a lion found him and killed him. 彼はその人に言った、「あなたは主の言葉に聞き従わないゆえ、わたしを離れて行くとすぐ、ししがあなたを殺すでしょう」。その人が彼のそばを離れて行くとすぐ、ししが彼に会って彼を殺した。
20 37 And he found another man, and said, "Strike me, please." So the man struck him, inflicting a wound. 彼はまたほかの人に会って言った、「どうぞ、わたしを撃ってください」。するとその人は彼を撃ち、撃って傷つけた。
20 38 Then the prophet departed and waited for the king by the road, and disguised himself with a bandage over his eyes. こうしてその預言者は行って、道のかたわらで王を待ち、目にほうたいを当てて姿を変えていた。
20 39 Now as the king passed by, he cried out to the king and said, "Your servant went out into the midst of the battle; and there, a man came over and brought a man to me, and said, 'Guard this man; if by any means he is missing, your life shall be for his life, or else you shall pay a talent of silver.' 王が通り過ぎる時、王に呼ばわって言った、「しもべはいくさの中に出て行きましたが、ある軍人が、ひとりの人をわたしの所につれてきて言いました、『この人を守っていなさい。もし彼がいなくなれば、あなたの命を彼の命に代えるか、または銀一タラントを払わなければならない』。
20 40 While your servant was busy here and there, he was gone." Then the king of Israel said to him, "So shall your judgment be; you yourself have decided it." ところが、しもべはあちらこちらと忙しくしていたので、ついに彼はいなくなりました」。イスラエルの王は彼に言った、「あなたはそのとおりにさばかれなければならない。あなたが自分でそれを定めたのです」。
20 41 And he hastened to take the bandage away from his eyes; and the king of Israel recognized him as one of the prophets. そこで彼が急いで目のほうたいを取り除いたので、イスラエルの王はそれが預言者のひとりであることを知った。
20 42Then he said to him, "Thus says the Lord: 'Because you have let slip out of your hand a man whom I appointed to utter destruction, therefore your life shall go for his life, and your people for his people.' " 彼は王に言った、「主はこう仰せられる、『わたしが滅ぼそうと定めた人を、あなたは自分の手から放して行かせたので、あなたの命は彼の命に代り、あなたの民は彼の民に代るであろう』と」。
20 43 So the king of Israel went to his house sullen and displeased, and came to Samaria. イスラエルの王は悲しみ、かつ怒って自分の家におもむき、サマリヤに帰った。
列王記上 1 Kings 21 21
21 1 And it came to pass after these things that Naboth the Jezreelite had a vineyard which was in Jezreel, next to the palace of Ahab king of Samaria. さてエズレルびとナボテはエズレルにぶどう畑をもっていたが、サマリヤの王アハブの宮殿のかたわらにあったので、
21 2 So Ahab spoke to Naboth, saying, "Give me your vineyard, that I may have it for a vegetable garden, because it is near, next to my house; and for it I will give you a vineyard better than it. Or, if it seems good to you, I will give you its worth in money." アハブはナボテに言った、「あなたのぶどう畑はわたしの家の近くにあるので、わたしに譲って青物畑にさせてください。その代り、わたしはそれよりも良いぶどう畑をあなたにあげましょう。もしお望みならば、その価を金でさしあげましょう」。
21 3 But Naboth said to Ahab, "The Lord forbid that I should give the inheritance of my fathers to you!" ナボテはアハブに言った、「わたしは先祖の嗣業をあなたに譲ることを断じていたしません」。
21 4 So Ahab went into his house sullen and displeased because of the word which Naboth the Jezreelite had spoken to him; for he had said, "I will not give you the inheritance of my fathers." And he lay down on his bed, and turned away his face, and would eat no food. アハブはエズレルびとナボテが言った言葉を聞いて、悲しみ、かつ怒って家にはいった。ナボテが「わたしは先祖の嗣業をあなたに譲りません」と言ったからである。アハブは床に伏し、顔をそむけて食事をしなかった。
21 5 But Jezebel his wife came to him, and said to him, "Why is your spirit so sullen that you eat no food?" 妻イゼベルは彼の所にきて、言った、「あなたは何をそんなに悲しんで、食事をなさらないのですか」。
21 6 He said to her, "Because I spoke to Naboth the Jezreelite, and said to him, 'Give me your vineyard for money; or else, if it pleases you, I will give you another vineyard for it.' And he answered, 'I will not give you my vineyard.' " 彼は彼女に言った、「わたしはエズレルびとナボテに『あなたのぶどう畑を金で譲ってください。もし望むならば、その代りに、ほかのぶどう畑をあげよう』と言ったが、彼は答えて『わたしはぶどう畑を譲りません』と言ったからだ」。
21 7 Then Jezebel his wife said to him, "You now exercise authority over Israel! Arise, eat food, and let your heart be cheerful; I will give you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite." 妻イゼベルは彼に言った、「あなたが今イスラエルを治めているのですか。起きて食事をし、元気を出してください。わたしがエズレルびとナボテのぶどう畑をあなたにあげます」。
21 8 And she wrote letters in Ahab's name, sealed them with his seal, and sent the letters to the elders and the nobles who were dwelling in the city with Naboth. 彼女はアハブの名で手紙を書き、彼の印をおして、ナボテと同じように、その町に住んでいる長老たちと身分の尊い人々に、その手紙を送った。
21 9 She wrote in the letters, saying, Proclaim a fast, and seat Naboth with high honor among the people; 彼女はその手紙に書きしるした、「断食を布告して、ナボテを民のうちの高い所にすわらせ、
21 10 and seat two men, scoundrels, before him to bear witness against him, saying, "You have blasphemed God and the king." Then take him out, and stone him, that he may die. またふたりのよこしまな者を彼の前にすわらせ、そして彼を訴えて、『あなたは神と王とをのろった』と言わせなさい。こうして彼を引き出し、石で撃ち殺しなさい」。
21 11 So the men of his city, the elders and nobles who were inhabitants of his city, did as Jezebel had sent to them, as it was written in the letters which she had sent to them. その町の人々、すなわち、その町に住んでいる長老たちおよび身分の尊い人々は、イゼベルが言いつかわしたようにした。彼女が彼らに送った手紙に書きしるされていたように、
21 12 They proclaimed a fast, and seated Naboth with high honor among the people. 彼らは断食を布告して、ナボテを民のうちの高い所にすわらせた。
21 13 And two men, scoundrels, came in and sat before him; and the scoundrels witnessed against him, against Naboth, in the presence of the people, saying, "Naboth has blasphemed God and the king!" Then they took him outside the city and stoned him with stones, so that he died. そしてふたりのよこしまな者がはいってきて、その前にすわり、そのよこしまな者たちが民の前でナボテを訴えて、「ナボテは神と王とをのろった」と言った。そこで人々は彼を町の外に引き出し、石で撃ち殺した。
21 14 Then they sent to Jezebel, saying, "Naboth has been stoned and is dead." そして人々はイゼベルに「ナボテは石で撃ち殺された」と言い送った。
21 15 And it came to pass, when Jezebel heard that Naboth had been stoned and was dead, that Jezebel said to Ahab, "Arise, take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, which he refused to give you for money; for Naboth is not alive, but dead." イゼベルはナボテが石で撃ち殺されたのを聞くとすぐ、アハブに言った、「立って、あのエズレルびとナボテが、あなたに金で譲ることを拒んだぶどう畑を取りなさい。ナボテは生きていません。死んだのです」。
21 16 So it was, when Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, that Ahab got up and went down to take possession of the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite. アハブはナボテの死んだのを聞くとすぐ、立って、エズレルびとナボテのぶどう畑を取るために、そこへ下っていった。
21 17Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, そのとき、主の言葉がテシベびとエリヤに臨んだ、
21 18 "Arise, go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, who lives in Samaria. There he is, in the vineyard of Naboth, where he has gone down to take possession of it. 「立って、下って行き、サマリヤにいるイスラエルの王アハブに会いなさい。彼はナボテのぶどう畑を取ろうとしてそこへ下っている。
21 19 You shall speak to him, saying, 'Thus says the Lord: "Have you murdered and also taken possession?" ' And you shall speak to him, saying, 'Thus says the Lord: "In the place where dogs licked the blood of Naboth, dogs shall lick your blood, even yours." ' " あなたは彼に言わなければならない、『主はこう仰せられる、あなたは殺したのか、また取ったのか』と。また彼に言いなさい、『主はこう仰せられる、犬がナボテの血をなめた場所で、犬があなたの血をなめるであろう』」。
21 20 So Ahab said to Elijah, "Have you found me, O my enemy?" And he answered, "I have found you, because you have sold yourself to do evil in the sight of the Lord: アハブはエリヤに言った、「わが敵よ、ついに、わたしを見つけたのか」。彼は言った、「見つけました。あなたが主の目の前に悪を行うことに身をゆだねたゆえ、
21 21 'Behold, I will bring calamity on you. I will take away your posterity, and will cut off from Ahab every male in Israel, both bond and free. わたしはあなたに災を下し、あなたを全く滅ぼし、アハブに属する男は、イスラエルにいてつながれた者も、自由な者もことごとく断ち、
21 22 I will make your house like the house of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and like the house of Baasha the son of Ahijah, because of the provocation with which you have provoked Me to anger, and made Israel sin.' またあなたの家をネバテの子ヤラベアムの家のようにし、アヒヤの子バアシャの家のようにするでしょう。これはあなたがわたしを怒らせた怒りのゆえ、またイスラエルに罪を犯させたゆえです。
21 23 And concerning Jezebel the Lord also spoke, saying, 'The dogs shall eat Jezebel by the wall of Jezreel.' イゼベルについて、主はまた言われました、『犬がエズレルの地域でイゼベルを食うであろう』と。
21 24 The dogs shall eat whoever belongs to Ahab and dies in the city, and the birds of the air shall eat whoever dies in the field." アハブに属する者は、町で死ぬ者を犬が食い、野で死ぬ者を空の鳥が食うでしょう」。
21 25But there was no one like Ahab who sold himself to do wickedness in the sight of the Lord, because Jezebel his wife stirred him up. アハブのように主の目の前に悪を行うことに身をゆだねた者はなかった。その妻イゼベルが彼をそそのかしたのである。
21 26 And he behaved very abominably in following idols, according to all that the Amorites had done, whom the Lord had cast out before the children of Israel. 彼は主がイスラエルの人々の前から追い払われたアモリびとがしたように偶像に従って、はなはだ憎むべき事を行った。
21 27 So it was, when Ahab heard those words, that he tore his clothes and put sackcloth on his body, and fasted and lay in sackcloth, and went about mourning. アハブはこれらの言葉を聞いた時、衣を裂き、荒布を身にまとい、食を断ち、荒布に伏し、打ちしおれて歩いた。
21 28 And the word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tishbite, saying, この時、主の言葉がテシベびとエリヤに臨んだ、
21 29 "See how Ahab has humbled himself before Me? Because he has humbled himself before Me, I will not bring the calamity in his days. In the days of his son I will bring the calamity on his house." 「アハブがわたしの前にへりくだっているのを見たか。彼がわたしの前にへりくだっているゆえ、わたしは彼の世には災を下さない。その子の世に災をその家に下すであろう」。

22 1 Now three years passed without war between Syria and Israel. スリヤとイスラエルの間に戦争がなくて三年を経た。
22 2 Then it came to pass, in the third year, that Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went down to visit the king of Israel. しかし三年目にユダの王ヨシャパテがイスラエルの王の所へ下っていったので、
22 3 And the king of Israel said to his servants, "Do you know that Ramoth in Gilead is ours, but we hesitate to take it out of the hand of the king of Syria?" イスラエルの王はその家来たちに言った、「あなたがたは、ラモテ・ギレアデがわれわれの所有であることを知っていますか。しかもなおわれわれはスリヤの王の手からそれを取らずに黙っているのです」。
22 4 So he said to Jehoshaphat, "Will you go with me to fight at Ramoth Gilead?" Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, "I am as you are, my people as your people, my horses as your horses." 彼はヨシャパテに言った、「ラモテ・ギレアデで戦うためにわたしと一緒に行かれませんか」。ヨシャパテはイスラエルの王に言った、「わたしはあなたと一つです。わたしの民はあなたの民と一つです。わたしの馬はあなたの馬と一つです」。
22 5 Also Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, "Please inquire for the word of the Lord today." ヨシャパテはまたイスラエルの王に言った、「まず、主の言葉を伺いなさい」。
22 6Then the king of Israel gathered the prophets together, about four hundred men, and said to them, "Shall I go against Ramoth Gilead to fight, or shall I refrain?" So they said, "Go up, for the Lord will deliver it into the hand of the king." そこでイスラエルの王は預言者四百人ばかりを集めて、彼らに言った、「わたしはラモテ・ギレアデに戦いに行くべきでしょうか、あるいは控えるべきでしょうか」。彼らは言った、「上っていきなさい。主はそれを王の手にわたされるでしょう」。
22 7 And Jehoshaphat said, "Is there not still a prophet of the Lord here, that we may inquire of Him?" ヨシャパテは言った、「ここには、われわれの問うべき主の預言者がほかにいませんか」。
22 8 So the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "There is still one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may inquire of the Lord; but I hate him, because he does not prophesy good concerning me, but evil." And Jehoshaphat said, "Let not the king say such things!" イスラエルの王はヨシャパテに言った、「われわれが主に問うことのできる人が、まだひとりいます。イムラの子ミカヤです。彼はわたしについて良い事を預言せず、ただ悪い事だけを預言するので、わたしは彼を憎んでいます」。ヨシャパテは言った、「王よ、そう言わないでください」。
22 9 Then the king of Israel called an officer and said, "Bring Micaiah the son of Imlah quickly!" そこでイスラエルの王は役人を呼んで、「急いでイムラの子ミカヤを連れてきなさい」と言った。
22 10 The king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah, having put on their robes, sat each on his throne, at a threshing floor at the entrance of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets prophesied before them. さてイスラエルの王およびユダの王ヨシャパテは王の服を着て、サマリヤの門の入口の広場に、おのおのその王座にすわり、預言者たちは皆その前で預言していた。
22 11 Now Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah had made horns of iron for himself; and he said, "Thus says the Lord: 'With these you shall gore the Syrians until they are destroyed.' " ケナアナの子ゼデキヤは鉄の角を造って言った、「主はこう仰せられます、『あなたはこれらの角をもってスリヤびとを突いて彼らを滅ぼしなさい』」。
22 12 And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, "Go up to Ramoth Gilead and prosper, for the Lord will deliver it into the king's hand." 預言者たちは皆そのように預言して言った、「ラモテ・ギレアデに上っていって勝利を得なさい。主はそれを王の手にわたされるでしょう」。
22 13 Then the messenger who had gone to call Micaiah spoke to him, saying, "Now listen, the words of the prophets with one accord encourage the king. Please, let your word be like the word of one of them, and speak encouragement." さてミカヤを呼びにいった使者は彼に言った、「預言者たちは一致して王に良い事を言いました。どうぞ、あなたも、彼らのひとりの言葉のようにして、良い事を言ってください」。
22 14 And Micaiah said, "As the Lord lives, whatever the Lord says to me, that I will speak." ミカヤは言った、「主は生きておられます。主がわたしに言われる事を申しましょう」。
22 15 Then he came to the king; and the king said to him, "Micaiah, shall we go to war against Ramoth Gilead, or shall we refrain?" And he answered him, "Go and prosper, for the Lord will deliver it into the hand of the king!" 彼が王の所へ行くと、王は彼に言った、「ミカヤよ、われわれはラモテ・ギレアデに戦いに行くべきでしょうか、あるいは控えるべきでしょうか」。彼は王に言った、「上っていって勝利を得なさい。主はそれを王の手にわたされるでしょう」。
22 16 So the king said to him, "How many times shall I make you swear that you tell me nothing but the truth in the name of the Lord?" しかし王は彼に言った、「幾たびあなたを誓わせたら、あなたは主の名をもって、ただ真実のみをわたしに告げるでしょうか」。
22 17 Then he said, "I saw all Israel scattered on the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd. And the Lord said, 'These have no master. Let each return to his house in peace.' " 彼は言った、「わたしはイスラエルが皆、牧者のない羊のように、山に散っているのを見ました。すると主は『これらの者は飼主がいない。彼らをそれぞれ安らかに、その家に帰らせよ』と言われました」。

22 20 And the Lord said, 'Who will persuade Ahab to go up, that he may fall at Ramoth Gilead?' So one spoke in this manner, and another spoke in that manner. 主は『だれがアハブをいざなってラモテ・ギレアデに上らせ、彼を倒れさせるであろうか』と言われました。するとひとりはこの事を言い、ひとりはほかの事を言いました。
22 21 Then a spirit came forward and stood before the Lord, and said, 'I will persuade him.' その時一つの霊が進み出て、主の前に立ち、『わたしが彼をいざないましょう』と言いました。
22 22 The Lord said to him, 'In what way?' So he said, 'I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.' And the Lord said, 'You shall persuade him, and also prevail. Go out and do so.' 主は『どのような方法でするのか』と言われたので、彼は『わたしが出て行って、偽りを言う霊となって、すべての預言者の口に宿りましょう』と言いました。そこで主は『おまえは彼をいざなって、それを成し遂げるであろう。出て行って、そうしなさい』と言われました。
22 23 Therefore look! The Lord has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these prophets of yours, and the Lord has declared disaster against you." それで主は偽りを言う霊をあなたのすべての預言者の口に入れ、また主はあなたの身に起る災を告げられたのです」。
22 24 Now Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah went near and struck Micaiah on the cheek, and said, "Which way did the spirit from the Lord go from me to speak to you?" するとケナアナの子ゼデキヤは近寄って、ミカヤのほおを打って言った、「どのようにして主の霊がわたしを離れて、あなたに語りましたか」。
22 25 And Micaiah said, "Indeed, you shall see on that day when you go into an inner chamber to hide!" ミカヤは言った、「あなたが奥の間にはいって身を隠すその日に、わかるでしょう」。
22 26 So the king of Israel said, "Take Micaiah, and return him to Amon the governor of the city and to Joash the king's son; イスラエルの王は言った、「ミカヤを捕え、町のつかさアモンと、王の子ヨアシの所へ引いて帰って、
22 27 and say, 'Thus says the king: "Put this fellow in prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and water of affliction, until I come in peace." ' " 言いなさい、『王がこう言います、この者を獄屋に入れ、わずかのパンと水をもって彼を養い、わたしが勝利を得て帰ってくるのを待て』」。
22 28 But Micaiah said, "If you ever return in peace, the Lord has not spoken by me." And he said, "Take heed, all you people!" ミカヤは言った、「もしあなたが勝利を得て帰ってこられるならば、主がわたしによって語られなかったのです」。また彼は言った、「あなたがた、すべての民よ、聞きなさい」。
22 29 So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramoth Gilead. こうしてイスラエルの王とユダの王ヨシャパテはラモテ・ギレアデに上っていった。
22 30 And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, "I will disguise myself and go into battle; but you put on your robes." So the king of Israel disguised himself and went into battle. イスラエルの王はヨシャパテに言った、「わたしは姿を変えて、戦いに行きます。あなたは王の服を着けなさい」。イスラエルの王は姿を変えて戦いに行った。
22 31 Now the king of Syria had commanded the thirty-two captains of his chariots, saying, "Fight with no one small or great, but only with the king of Israel." さて、スリヤの王は、その戦車長三十二人に命じて言った、「あなたがたは、小さい者とも大きい者とも戦わないで、ただイスラエルの王とだけ戦いなさい」。
22 32 So it was, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, "Surely it is the king of Israel!" Therefore they turned aside to fight against him, and Jehoshaphat cried out. 戦車長らはヨシャパテを見たとき、これはきっとイスラエルの王だと思ったので、身をめぐらして、これと戦おうとすると、ヨシャパテは呼ばわった。
22 33 And it happened, when the captains of the chariots saw that it was not the king of Israel, that they turned back from pursuing him. 戦車長らは彼がイスラエルの王でないのを見たので、彼を追うことをやめて引き返した。
22 34 Now a certain man drew a bow at random, and struck the king of Israel between the joints of his armor. 22 35 The battle increased that day; and the king was propped up in his chariot, facing the Syrians, and died at evening. The blood ran out from the wound onto the floor of the chariot. その日戦いは激しくなった。王は戦車の中にささえられて立ち、スリヤびとにむかっていたが、ついに、夕暮になって死んだ。傷の血は戦車の底に流れた。
22 36 Then, as the sun was going down, a shout went throughout the army, saying, "Every man to his city, and every man to his own country!" 日の没するころ、軍勢の中に呼ばわる声がした、「めいめいその町へ、めいめいその国へ帰れ」。
22 37 So the king died, and was brought to Samaria. And they buried the king in Samaria. 王は死んで、サマリヤへ携え行かれた。人々は王をサマリヤに葬った。
22 38 Then someone washed the chariot at a pool in Samaria, and the dogs licked up his blood while the harlots bathed, according to the word of the Lord which He had spoken. またその戦車をサマリヤの池で洗ったが、犬がその血をなめた。また遊女がそこで身を洗った。主が言われた言葉のとおりである。
22 39 Now the rest of the acts of Ahab, and all that he did, the ivory house which he built and all the cities that he built, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel? アハブのそのほかの事績と、彼がしたすべての事と、その建てた象牙の家と、その建てたすべての町は、イスラエルの王の歴代志の書にしるされているではないか。
22 40 So Ahab rested with his fathers. Then Ahaziah his son reigned in his place. こうしてアハブはその先祖と共に眠って、その子アハジヤが代って王となった。
22 41 Jehoshaphat the son of Asa had become king over Judah in the fourth year of Ahab king of Israel. アサの子ヨシャパテはイスラエルの王アハブの第四年にユダの王となった。
22 42 Jehoshaphat was thirty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi. ヨシャパテは王となった時、三十五歳であったが、エルサレムで二十五年世を治めた。その母の名はアズバといい、シルヒの娘であった。
22 43 And he walked in all the ways of his father Asa. He did not turn aside from them, doing what was right in the eyes of the Lord. Nevertheless the high places were not taken away, for the people offered sacrifices and burned incense on the high places. ヨシャパテは父アサのすべての道に歩み、それを離れることなく、主の目にかなう事をした。ただし高き所は除かなかったので、民はなお高き所で犠牲をささげ、香をたいた。
22 44Also Jehoshaphat made peace with the king of Israel. ヨシャパテはまたイスラエルの王と、よしみを結んだ。
22 45 Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, the might that he showed, and how he made war, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? ヨシャパテのその他の事績と、彼があらわした勲功およびその戦争については、ユダの王の歴代志の書にしるされているではないか。
22 46 And the rest of the perverted persons, who remained in the days of his father Asa, he banished from the land. 彼は父アサの世になお残っていた神殿男娼たちを国のうちから追い払った。
22 47 There was then no king in Edom, only a deputy of the king. そのころエドムには王がなく、代官が王であった。
22 48 Jehoshaphat made merchant ships to go to Ophir for gold; but they never sailed, for the ships were wrecked at Ezion Geber. ヨシャパテはタルシシの船を造って、金を獲るためにオフルに行かせようとしたが、その船はエジオン・ゲベルで難破したため、ついに行かなかった。
22 49Then Ahaziah the son of Ahab said to Jehoshaphat, "Let my servants go with your servants in the ships." But Jehoshaphat would not. そこでアハブの子アハジヤはヨシャパテに「わたしの家来をあなたの家来と一緒に船で行かせなさい」と言ったが、ヨシャパテは承知しなかった。
