ヨハネによる福音書	John 1	1
1	1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.	初めに言があった。言は神と共にあった。言は神であった。
1	2 He was in the beginning with God.	この言は初めに神と共にあった。
1	3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.	すべてのものは、これによってできた。できたもののうち、一つとしてこれによらないものはなかった。
1	4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.	この言に命があった。そしてこの命は人の光であった。
1	5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.	光はやみの中に輝いている。そして、やみはこれに勝たなかった。
1	6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John.	ここにひとりの人があって、神からつかわされていた。その名をヨハネと言った。
1	7 This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe.	この人はあかしのためにきた。光についてあかしをし、彼によってすべての人が信じるためである。
1	8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light.	彼は光ではなく、ただ、光についてあかしをするためにきたのである。
1	9 That was the true Light which gives light to every man coming into the world.	すべての人を照すまことの光があって、世にきた。
1	10 He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him.	彼は世にいた。そして、世は彼によってできたのであるが、世は彼を知らずにいた。
1	11 He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.	彼は自分のところにきたのに、自分の民は彼を受けいれなかった。
1	12 But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:	しかし、彼を受けいれた者、すなわち、その名を信じた人々には、彼は神の子となる力を与えたのである。
1	13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.	それらの人は、血すじによらず、肉の欲によらず、また、人の欲にもよらず、ただ神によって生れたのである。
1	14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.	そして言は肉体となり、わたしたちのうちに宿った。わたしたちはその栄光を見た。それは父のひとり子としての栄光であって、めぐみとまこととに満ちていた。
1	15 John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, "This was He of whom I said, 'He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me.' "	ヨハネは彼についてあかしをし、叫んで言った、「『わたしのあとに来るかたは、わたしよりもすぐれたかたである。わたしよりも先におられたからである』とわたしが言ったのは、この人のことである」。
1	16 And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace.	わたしたちすべての者は、その満ち満ちているものの中から受けて、めぐみにめぐみを加えられた。
1	17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.	律法はモーセをとおして与えられ、めぐみとまこととは、イエス・キリストをとおしてきたのである。
1	18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.	神を見た者はまだひとりもいない。ただ父のふところにいるひとり子なる神だけが、神をあらわしたのである。
1	19Now this is the testimony of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, "Who are you?"	さて、ユダヤ人たちが、エルサレムから祭司たちやレビ人たちをヨハネのもとにつかわして、「あなたはどなたですか」と問わせたが、その時ヨハネが立てたあかしは、こうであった。
1	20 He confessed, and did not deny, but confessed, "I am not the Christ."	すなわち、彼は告白して否まず、「わたしはキリストではない」と告白した。
1	21 And they asked him, "What then? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" And he answered, "No."	そこで、彼らは問うた、「それでは、どなたなのですか、あなたはエリヤですか」。彼は「いや、そうではない」と言った。「では、あの預言者ですか」。彼は「いいえ」と答えた。
1	22 Then they said to him, "Who are you, that we may give an answer to those who sent us? What do you say about yourself?"	そこで、彼らは言った、「あなたはどなたですか。わたしたちをつかわした人々に、答えを持って行けるようにしていただきたい。あなた自身をだれだと考えるのですか」。
1	23 He said: "I am 'The voice of one crying in the wilderness: "Make straight the way of the Lord," ' as the prophet Isaiah said."	彼は言った、「わたしは、預言者イザヤが言ったように、『主の道をまっすぐにせよと荒野で呼ばわる者の声』である」。
1	24 Now those who were sent were from the Pharisees.	つかわされた人たちは、パリサイ人であった。
1	25 And they asked him, saying, "Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?"	彼らはヨハネに問うて言った、「では、あなたがキリストでもエリヤでもまたあの預言者でもないのなら、なぜバプテスマを授けるのですか」。
1	26 John answered them, saying, "I baptize with water, but there stands One among you whom you do not know.	ヨハネは彼らに答えて言った、「わたしは水でバプテスマを授けるが、あなたがたの知らないかたが、あなたがたの中に立っておられる。
1	27 It is He who, coming after me, is preferred before me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose."	それがわたしのあとにおいでになる方であって、わたしはその人のくつのひもを解く値うちもない」。
1	28 These things were done in Bethabara beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.	これらのことは、ヨハネがバプテスマを授けていたヨルダンの向こうのベタニヤであったのである。
1	29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!	その翌日、ヨハネはイエスが自分の方にこられるのを見て言った、「見よ、世の罪を取り除く神の小羊。
1	30 This is He of whom I said, 'After me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for He was before me.'	『わたしのあとに来るかたは、わたしよりもすぐれたかたである。わたしよりも先におられたからである』とわたしが言ったのは、この人のことである。
1	31 I did not know Him; but that He should be revealed to Israel, therefore I came baptizing with water."	わたしはこのかたを知らなかった。しかし、このかたがイスラエルに現れてくださるそのことのために、わたしはきて、水でバプテスマを授けているのである」。
1	32 And John bore witness, saying, "I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him.	ヨハネはまたあかしをして言った、「わたしは、御霊がはとのように天から下って、彼の上にとどまるのを見た。
1	33 I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, 'Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.'	わたしはこの人を知らなかった。しかし、水でバプテスマを授けるようにと、わたしをおつかわしになったそのかたが、わたしに言われた、『ある人の上に、御霊が下ってとどまるのを見たら、その人こそは、御霊によってバプテスマを授けるかたである』。
1	34 And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God."	わたしはそれを見たので、このかたこそ神の子であると、あかしをしたのである」。
1	35 Again, the next day, John stood with two of his disciples.	その翌日、ヨハネはまたふたりの弟子たちと一緒に立っていたが、
1	36 And looking at Jesus as He walked, he said, "Behold the Lamb of God!"	イエスが歩いておられるのに目をとめて言った、「見よ、神の小羊」。
1	37 The two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.	そのふたりの弟子は、ヨハネがそう言うのを聞いて、イエスについて行った。
1	38 Then Jesus turned, and seeing them following, said to them, "What do you seek?" They said to Him, "Rabbi" (which is to say, when translated, Teacher), "where are You staying?"	イエスはふり向き、彼らがついてくるのを見て言われた、「何か願いがあるのか」。彼らは言った、「ラビ（訳して言えば、先生）どこにおとまりなのですか」。
1	39 He said to them, "Come and see." They came and saw where He was staying, and remained with Him that day (now it was about the tenth hour).	イエスは彼らに言われた、「きてごらんなさい。そうしたらわかるだろう」。そこで彼らはついて行って、イエスの泊まっておられる所を見た。そして、その日はイエスのところに泊まった。時は午後四時ごろであった。
1	40 One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.	ヨハネから聞いて、イエスについて行ったふたりのうちのひとりは、シモン・ペテロの兄弟アンデレであった。
1	41 He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, "We have found the Messiah" (which is translated, the Christ).	彼はまず自分の兄弟シモンに出会って言った、「わたしたちはメシヤ（訳せば、キリスト）にいま出会った」。
1	42 And he brought him to Jesus. Now when Jesus looked at him, He said, "You are Simon the son of Jonah. You shall be called Cephas" (which is translated, A Stone).	そしてシモンをイエスのもとにつれてきた。イエスは彼に目をとめて言われた、「あなたはヨハネの子シモンである。あなたをケパ（訳せば、ペテロ）と呼ぶことにする」。
1	43 The following day Jesus wanted to go to Galilee, and He found Philip and said to him, "Follow Me."	その翌日、イエスはガリラヤに行こうとされたが、ピリポに出会って言われた、「わたしに従ってきなさい」。
1	44 Now Philip was from Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.	ピリポは、アンデレとペテロとの町ベツサイダの人であった。
1	45 Philip found Nathanael and said to him, "We have found Him of whom Moses in the law, and also the prophets, wrote--Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph."	このピリポがナタナエルに出会って言った、「わたしたちは、モーセが律法の中にしるしており、預言者たちがしるしていた人、ヨセフの子、ナザレのイエスにいま出会った」。
1	46 And Nathanael said to him, "Can anything good come out of Nazareth?" Philip said to him, "Come and see."	ナタナエルは彼に言った、「ナザレから、なんのよいものが出ようか」。ピリポは彼に言った、「きて見なさい」。
1	47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward Him, and said of him, "Behold, an Israelite indeed, in whom is no deceit!"	イエスはナタナエルが自分の方に来るのを見て、彼について言われた、「見よ、あの人こそ、ほんとうのイスラエル人である。その心には偽りがない」。
1	48 Nathanael said to Him, "How do You know me?" Jesus answered and said to him, "Before Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you."	ナタナエルは言った、「どうしてわたしをご存じなのですか」。イエスは答えて言われた、「ピリポがあなたを呼ぶ前に、わたしはあなたが、いちじくの木の下にいるのを見た」。
1	49 Nathanael answered and said to Him, "Rabbi, You are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!"	ナタナエルは答えた、「先生、あなたは神の子です。あなたはイスラエルの王です」。
1	50 Jesus answered and said to him, "Because I said to you, 'I saw you under the fig tree,' do you believe? You will see greater things than these."	イエスは答えて言われた、「あなたが、いちじくの木の下にいるのを見たと、わたしが言ったので信じるのか。これよりも、もっと大きなことを、あなたは見るであろう」。
1	51 And He said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, hereafter you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man."	また言われた、「よくよくあなたがたに言っておく。天が開けて、神の御使たちが人の子の上に上り下りするのを、あなたがたは見るであろう」。

2	1 On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there.	三日目にガリラヤのカナに婚礼があって、イエスの母がそこにいた。
2	2 Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding.	イエスも弟子たちも、その婚礼に招かれた。
2	3 And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, "They have no wine."	ぶどう酒がなくなったので、母はイエスに言った、「ぶどう酒がなくなってしまいました」。
2	4 Jesus said to her, "Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come."	イエスは母に言われた、「婦人よ、あなたは、わたしと、なんの係わりがありますか。わたしの時は、まだきていません」。
2	5 His mother said to the servants, "Whatever He says to you, do it."	母は僕たちに言った、「このかたが、あなたがたに言いつけることは、なんでもして下さい」。
2	6 Now there were set there six waterpots of stone, according to the manner of purification of the Jews, containing twenty or thirty gallons apiece.	そこには、ユダヤ人のきよめのならわしに従って、それぞれ四、五斗もはいる石の水がめが、六つ置いてあった。
2	7 Jesus said to them, "Fill the waterpots with water." And they filled them up to the brim.	イエスは彼らに「かめに水をいっぱい入れなさい」と言われたので、彼らは口のところまでいっぱいに入れた。
2	8 And He said to them, "Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast." And they took it.	そこで彼らに言われた、「さあ、くんで、料理がしらのところに持って行きなさい」。すると、彼らは持って行った。
2	9 When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom.	料理がしらは、ぶどう酒になった水をなめてみたが、それがどこからきたのか知らなかったので、（水をくんだ僕たちは知っていた）花婿を呼んで
2	10 And he said to him, "Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!"	言った、「どんな人でも、初めによいぶどう酒を出して、酔いがまわったころにわるいのを出すものだ。それだのに、あなたはよいぶどう酒を今までとっておかれました」。
2	11This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him.	イエスは、この最初のしるしをガリラヤのカナで行い、その栄光を現された。そして弟子たちはイエスを信じた。
2	12 After this He went down to Capernaum, He, His mother, His brothers, and His disciples; and they did not stay there many days.	そののち、イエスは、その母、兄弟たち、弟子たちと一緒に、カペナウムに下って、幾日かそこにとどまられた。
2	13 Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.	さて、ユダヤ人の過越の祭が近づいたので、イエスはエルサレムに上られた。
2	14 And He found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the moneychangers doing business.	そして牛、羊、はとを売る者や両替する者などが宮の庭にすわり込んでいるのをごらんになって、
2	15 When He had made a whip of cords, He drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers' money and overturned the tables.	なわでむちを造り、羊も牛もみな宮から追いだし、両替人の金を散らし、その台をひっくりかえし、
2	16 And He said to those who sold doves, "Take these things away! Do not make My Father's house a house of merchandise!"	はとを売る人々には「これらのものを持って、ここから出て行け。わたしの父の家を商売の家とするな」と言われた。
2	17 Then His disciples remembered that it was written, "Zeal for Your house has eaten Me up."	弟子たちは、「あなたの家を思う熱心が、わたしを食いつくすであろう」と書いてあることを思い出した。
2	18 So the Jews answered and said to Him, "What sign do You show to us, since You do these things?"	そこで、ユダヤ人はイエスに言った、「こんなことをするからには、どんなしるしをわたしたちに見せてくれますか」。
2	19 Jesus answered and said to them, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up."	イエスは彼らに答えて言われた、「この神殿をこわしたら、わたしは三日のうちに、それを起すであろう」。
2	20 Then the Jews said, "It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?"	そこで、ユダヤ人たちは言った、「この神殿を建てるのには、四十六年もかかっています。それだのに、あなたは三日のうちに、それを建てるのですか」。
2	21 But He was speaking of the temple of His body.	イエスは自分のからだである神殿のことを言われたのである。
2	22 Therefore, when He had risen from the dead, His disciples remembered that He had said this to them; and they believed the Scripture and the word which Jesus had said.	それで、イエスが死人の中からよみがえったとき、弟子たちはイエスがこう言われたことを思い出して、聖書とイエスのこの言葉とを信じた。
2	23 Now when He was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in His name when they saw the signs which He did.	過越の祭の間、イエスがエルサレムに滞在しておられたとき、多くの人々は、その行われたしるしを見て、イエスの名を信じた。
2	24 But Jesus did not commit Himself to them, because He knew all men,	しかしイエスご自身は、彼らに自分をお任せにならなかった。それは、すべての人を知っておられ、
2	25 and had no need that anyone should testify of man, for He knew what was in man.	また人についてあかしする者を、必要とされなかったからである。それは、ご自身人の心の中にあることを知っておられたからである。

3	1 There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.	パリサイ人のひとりで、その名をニコデモというユダヤ人の指導者があった。
3	2 This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, "Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him."	この人が夜イエスのもとにきて言った、「先生、わたしたちはあなたが神からこられた教師であることを知っています。神がご一緒でないなら、あなたがなさっておられるようなしるしは、だれにもできはしません」。
3	3 Jesus answered and said to him, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."	イエスは答えて言われた、「よくよくあなたに言っておく。だれでも新しく生れなければ、神の国を見ることはできない」。
3	4 Nicodemus said to Him, "How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?"	ニコデモは言った、「人は年をとってから生れることが、どうしてできますか。もう一度、母の胎にはいって生れることができましょうか」。
3	5 Jesus answered, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.	イエスは答えられた、「よくよくあなたに言っておく。だれでも、水と霊とから生れなければ、神の国にはいることはできない。
3	6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.	肉から生れる者は肉であり、霊から生れる者は霊である。
3	7 Do not marvel that I said to you, 'You must be born again.'	あなたがたは新しく生れなければならないと、わたしが言ったからとて、不思議に思うには及ばない。
3	8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit."	風は思いのままに吹く。あなたはその音を聞くが、それがどこからきて、どこへ行くかは知らない。霊から生れる者もみな、それと同じである」。
3	9 Nicodemus answered and said to Him, "How can these things be?"	ニコデモはイエスに答えて言った、「どうして、そんなことがあり得ましょうか」。
3	10 Jesus answered and said to him, "Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things?	イエスは彼に答えて言われた、「あなたはイスラエルの教師でありながら、これぐらいのことがわからないのか。
3	11 Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We know and testify what We have seen, and you do not receive Our witness.	よくよく言っておく。わたしたちは自分の知っていることを語り、また自分の見たことをあかししているのに、あなたがたはわたしたちのあかしを受けいれない。
3	12 If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?	わたしが地上のことを語っているのに、あなたがたが信じないならば、天上のことを語った場合、どうしてそれを信じるだろうか。
3	13 No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven.	天から下ってきた者、すなわち人の子のほかには、だれも天に上った者はない。
3	14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up,	そして、ちょうどモーセが荒野でへびを上げたように、人の子もまた上げられなければならない。
3	15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.	それは彼を信じる者が、すべて永遠の命を得るためである」。
3	16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.	神はそのひとり子を賜わったほどに、この世を愛して下さった。それは御子を信じる者がひとりも滅びないで、永遠の命を得るためである。
3	17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.	神が御子を世につかわされたのは、世をさばくためではなく、御子によって、この世が救われるためである。
3	18 He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.	彼を信じる者は、さばかれない。信じない者は、すでにさばかれている。神のひとり子の名を信じることをしないからである。
3	19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.	そのさばきというのは、光がこの世にきたのに、人々はそのおこないが悪いために、光よりもやみの方を愛したことである。
3	20 For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.	悪を行っている者はみな光を憎む。そして、そのおこないが明るみに出されるのを恐れて、光にこようとはしない。
3	21But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God."	しかし、真理を行っている者は光に来る。その人のおこないの、神にあってなされたということが、明らかにされるためである。
3	22 After these things Jesus and His disciples came into the land of Judea, and there He remained with them and baptized.	こののち、イエスは弟子たちとユダヤの地に行き、彼らと一緒にそこに滞在して、バプテスマを授けておられた。
3	23 Now John also was baptizing in Aenon near Salim, because there was much water there. And they came and were baptized.	ヨハネもサリムに近いアイノンで、バプテスマを授けていた。そこには水がたくさんあったからである。人々がぞくぞくとやってきてバプテスマを受けていた。
3	24 For John had not yet been thrown into prison.	そのとき、ヨハネはまだ獄に入れられてはいなかった。
3	25 Then there arose a dispute between some of John's disciples and the Jews about purification.	ところが、ヨハネの弟子たちとひとりのユダヤ人との間に、きよめのことで争論が起った。
3	26 And they came to John and said to him, "Rabbi, He who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have testified--behold, He is baptizing, and all are coming to Him!"	そこで彼らはヨハネのところにきて言った、「先生、ごらん下さい。ヨルダンの向こうであなたと一緒にいたことがあり、そして、あなたがあかしをしておられたあのかたが、バプテスマを授けており、皆の者が、そのかたのところへ出かけています」。
3	27 John answered and said, "A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven.	ヨハネは答えて言った、「人は天から与えられなければ、何ものも受けることはできない。
3	28You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, 'I am not the Christ,' but, 'I have been sent before Him.'	『わたしはキリストではなく、そのかたよりも先につかわされた者である』と言ったことをあかししてくれるのは、あなたがた自身である。
3	29 He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom's voice. Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled.	花嫁をもつ者は花婿である。花婿の友人は立って彼の声を聞き、その声を聞いて大いに喜ぶ。こうして、この喜びはわたしに満ち足りている。
3	30 He must increase, but I must decrease.	彼は必ず栄え、わたしは衰える。
3	31 He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all.	上から来る者は、すべてのものの上にある。地から出る者は、地に属する者であって、地のことを語る。天から来る者は、すべてのものの上にある。
3	32 And what He has seen and heard, that He testifies; and no one receives His testimony.	彼はその見たところ、聞いたところをあかししているが、だれもそのあかしを受けいれない。
3	33 He who has received His testimony has certified that God is true.	しかし、そのあかしを受けいれる者は、神がまことであることを、たしかに認めたのである。
3	34 For He whom God has sent speaks the words of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure.	神がおつかわしになったかたは、神の言葉を語る。神は聖霊を限りなく賜うからである。
3	35The Father loves the Son, and has given all things into His hand.	父は御子を愛して、万物をその手にお与えになった。
3	36He who believes in the Son has everlasting life; and he who does not believe the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him."	御子を信じる者は永遠の命をもつ。御子に従わない者は、命にあずかることがないばかりか、神の怒りがその上にとどまるのである」。

4	1 Therefore, when the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John	イエスが、ヨハネよりも多く弟子をつくり、またバプテスマを授けておられるということを、パリサイ人たちが聞き、それを主が知られたとき、
4	2 (though Jesus Himself did not baptize, but His disciples),	（しかし、イエスみずからが、バプテスマをお授けになったのではなく、その弟子たちであった）
4	3 He left Judea and departed again to Galilee.	ユダヤを去って、またガリラヤへ行かれた。
4	4 But He needed to go through Samaria.	しかし、イエスはサマリヤを通過しなければならなかった。
4	5 So He came to a city of Samaria which is called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph.	そこで、イエスはサマリヤのスカルという町においでになった。この町は、ヤコブがその子ヨセフに与えた土地の近くにあったが、
4	6 Now Jacob's well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied from His journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour.	そこにヤコブの井戸があった。イエスは旅の疲れを覚えて、そのまま、この井戸のそばにすわっておられた。時は昼の十二時ごろであった。
4	7 A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, "Give Me a drink."	ひとりのサマリヤの女が水をくみにきたので、イエスはこの女に、「水を飲ませて下さい」と言われた。
4	8 For His disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.	弟子たちは食物を買いに町に行っていたのである。
4	9 Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, "How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?" For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.	すると、サマリヤの女はイエスに言った、「あなたはユダヤ人でありながら、どうしてサマリヤの女のわたしに、飲ませてくれとおっしゃるのですか」。これは、ユダヤ人はサマリヤ人と交際していなかったからである。
4	10 Jesus answered and said to her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, 'Give Me a drink,' you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water."	イエスは答えて言われた、「もしあなたが神の賜物のことを知り、また、『水を飲ませてくれ』と言った者が、だれであるか知っていたならば、あなたの方から願い出て、その人から生ける水をもらったことであろう」。
4	11 The woman said to Him, "Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water?	女はイエスに言った、「主よ、あなたは、くむ物をお持ちにならず、その上、井戸は深いのです。その生ける水を、どこから手に入れるのですか。
4	12 Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?"	あなたは、この井戸を下さったわたしたちの父ヤコブよりも、偉いかたなのですか。ヤコブ自身も飲み、その子らも、その家畜も、この井戸から飲んだのですが」。
4	13 Jesus answered and said to her, "Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again,	イエスは女に答えて言われた、「この水を飲む者はだれでも、またかわくであろう。
4	14 but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life."	しかし、わたしが与える水を飲む者は、いつまでも、かわくことがないばかりか、わたしが与える水は、その人のうちで泉となり、永遠の命に至る水が、わきあがるであろう」。
4	15 The woman said to Him, "Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw."	女はイエスに言った、「主よ、わたしがかわくことがなく、また、ここにくみにこなくてもよいように、その水をわたしに下さい」。
4	16 Jesus said to her, "Go, call your husband, and come here."	イエスは女に言われた、「あなたの夫を呼びに行って、ここに連れてきなさい」。
4	17 The woman answered and said, "I have no husband." Jesus said to her, "You have well said, 'I have no husband,'	女は答えて言った、「わたしには夫はありません」。イエスは女に言われた、「夫がないと言ったのは、もっともだ。
4	18 for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; in that you spoke truly."	あなたには五人の夫があったが、今のはあなたの夫ではない。あなたの言葉のとおりである」。
4	19 The woman said to Him, "Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet.	女はイエスに言った、「主よ、わたしはあなたを預言者と見ます。
4	20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship."	わたしたちの先祖は、この山で礼拝をしたのですが、あなたがたは礼拝すべき場所は、エルサレムにあると言っています」。
4	21 Jesus said to her, "Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father.	イエスは女に言われた、「女よ、わたしの言うことを信じなさい。あなたがたが、この山でも、またエルサレムでもない所で、父を礼拝する時が来る。
4	22 You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews.	あなたがたは自分の知らないものを拝んでいるが、わたしたちは知っているかたを礼拝している。救はユダヤ人から来るからである。
4	23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.	しかし、まことの礼拝をする者たちが、霊とまこととをもって父を礼拝する時が来る。そうだ、今きている。父は、このような礼拝をする者たちを求めておられるからである。
4	24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."	神は霊であるから、礼拝をする者も、霊とまこととをもって礼拝すべきである」。
4	25 The woman said to Him, "I know that Messiah is coming" (who is called Christ). "When He comes, He will tell us all things."	女はイエスに言った、「わたしは、キリストと呼ばれるメシヤがこられることを知っています。そのかたがこられたならば、わたしたちに、いっさいのことを知らせて下さるでしょう」。
4	26 Jesus said to her, "I who speak to you am He."	イエスは女に言われた、「あなたと話をしているこのわたしが、それである」。
4	27 And at this point His disciples came, and they marveled that He talked with a woman; yet no one said, "What do You seek?" or, "Why are You talking with her?"	そのとき、弟子たちが帰って来て、イエスがひとりの女と話しておられるのを見て不思議に思ったが、しかし、「何を求めておられますか」とも、「何を彼女と話しておられるのですか」とも、尋ねる者はひとりもなかった。
4	28 The woman then left her waterpot, went her way into the city, and said to the men,	この女は水がめをそのままそこに置いて町に行き、人々に言った、
4	29"Come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?"	「わたしのしたことを何もかも、言いあてた人がいます。さあ、見にきてごらんなさい。もしかしたら、この人がキリストかも知れません」。
4	30 Then they went out of the city and came to Him.	人々は町を出て、ぞくぞくとイエスのところへ行った。
4	31 In the meantime His disciples urged Him, saying, "Rabbi, eat."	その間に弟子たちはイエスに、「先生、召しあがってください」とすすめた。
4	32 But He said to them, "I have food to eat of which you do not know."	ところが、イエスは言われた、「わたしには、あなたがたの知らない食物がある」。
4	33 Therefore the disciples said to one another, "Has anyone brought Him anything to eat?"	そこで、弟子たちが互に言った、「だれかが、何か食べるものを持ってきてさしあげたのであろうか」。
4	34 Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.	イエスは彼らに言われた、「わたしの食物というのは、わたしをつかわされたかたのみこころを行い、そのみわざをなし遂げることである。
4	35 Do you not say, 'There are still four months and then comes the harvest'? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are already white for harvest!	あなたがたは、刈入れ時が来るまでには、まだ四か月あると、言っているではないか。しかし、わたしはあなたがたに言う。目をあげて畑を見なさい。はや色づいて刈入れを待っている。
4	36 And he who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit for eternal life, that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together.	刈る者は報酬を受けて、永遠の命に至る実を集めている。まく者も刈る者も、共々に喜ぶためである。
4	37 For in this the saying is true: 'One sows and another reaps.'	そこで、『ひとりがまき、ひとりが刈る』ということわざが、ほんとうのこととなる。
4	38 I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored, and you have entered into their labors."	わたしは、あなたがたをつかわして、あなたがたがそのために労苦しなかったものを刈りとらせた。ほかの人々が労苦し、あなたがたは、彼らの労苦の実にあずかっているのである」。
4	39 And many of the Samaritans of that city believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified, "He told me all that I ever did."	さて、この町からきた多くのサマリヤ人は、「この人は、わたしのしたことを何もかも言いあてた」とあかしした女の言葉によって、イエスを信じた。
4	40 So when the Samaritans had come to Him, they urged Him to stay with them; and He stayed there two days.	そこで、サマリヤ人たちはイエスのもとにきて、自分たちのところに滞在していただきたいと願ったので、イエスはそこにふつか滞在された。
4	41 And many more believed because of His own word.	そしてなお多くの人々が、イエスの言葉を聞いて信じた。
4	42 Then they said to the woman, "Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him and we know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world."	彼らは女に言った、「わたしたちが信じるのは、もうあなたが話してくれたからではない。自分自身で親しく聞いて、この人こそまことに世の救主であることが、わかったからである」。
4	43 Now after the two days He departed from there and went to Galilee.	ふつかの後に、イエスはここを去ってガリラヤへ行かれた。
4	44 For Jesus Himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country.	イエスはみずからはっきり、「預言者は自分の故郷では敬われないものだ」と言われたのである。
4	45 So when He came to Galilee, the Galileans received Him, having seen all the things He did in Jerusalem at the feast; for they also had gone to the feast.	ガリラヤに着かれると、ガリラヤの人たちはイエスを歓迎した。それは、彼らも祭に行っていたので、その祭の時、イエスがエルサレムでなされたことをことごとく見ていたからである。
4	46 So Jesus came again to Cana of Galilee where He had made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman whose son was sick at Capernaum.	イエスは、またガリラヤのカナに行かれた。そこは、かつて水をぶどう酒にかえられた所である。ところが、病気をしているむすこを持つある役人がカペナウムにいた。
4	47 When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and implored Him to come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death.	この人が、ユダヤからガリラヤにイエスのきておられることを聞き、みもとにきて、カペナウムに下って、彼の子をなおしていただきたいと、願った。その子が死にかかっていたからである。
4	48 Then Jesus said to him, "Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe."	そこで、イエスは彼に言われた、「あなたがたは、しるしと奇跡とを見ない限り、決して信じないだろう」。
4	49 The nobleman said to Him, "Sir, come down before my child dies!"	この役人はイエスに言った、「主よ、どうぞ、子供が死なないうちにきて下さい」。
4	50 Jesus said to him, "Go your way; your son lives." So the man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he went his way.	イエスは彼に言われた、「お帰りなさい。あなたのむすこは助かるのだ」。彼は自分に言われたイエスの言葉を信じて帰って行った。
4	51 And as he was now going down, his servants met him and told him, saying, "Your son lives!"	その下って行く途中、僕たちが彼に出会い、その子が助かったことを告げた。
4	52 Then he inquired of them the hour when he got better. And they said to him, "Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him."	そこで、彼は僕たちに、そのなおりはじめた時刻を尋ねてみたら、「きのうの午後一時に熱が引きました」と答えた。
4	53 So the father knew that it was at the same hour in which Jesus said to him, "Your son lives." And he himself believed, and his whole household.	それは、イエスが「あなたのむすこは助かるのだ」と言われたのと同じ時刻であったことを、この父は知って、彼自身もその家族一同も信じた。
4	54 This again is the second sign Jesus did when He had come out of Judea into Galilee.	これは、イエスがユダヤからガリラヤにきてなされた第二のしるしである。

5	1 After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.	こののち、ユダヤ人の祭があったので、イエスはエルサレムに上られた。
5	2 Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches.	エルサレムにある羊の門のそばに、ヘブル語でベテスダと呼ばれる池があった。そこには五つの廊があった。
5	3 In these lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water.	その廊の中には、病人、盲人、足なえ、やせ衰えた者などが、大ぜいからだを横たえていた。〔彼らは水の動くのを待っていたのである。
5	4 For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease he had.	それは、時々、主の御使がこの池に降りてきて水を動かすことがあるが、水が動いた時まっ先にはいる者は、どんな病気にかかっていても、いやされたからである。〕
5	5 Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years.	さて、そこに三十八年のあいだ、病気に悩んでいる人があった。
5	6 When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, "Do you want to be made well?"	イエスはその人が横になっているのを見、また長い間わずらっていたのを知って、その人に「なおりたいのか」と言われた。
5	7 The sick man answered Him, "Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me."	この病人はイエスに答えた、「主よ、水が動く時に、わたしを池の中に入れてくれる人がいません。わたしがはいりかけると、ほかの人が先に降りて行くのです」。
5	8 Jesus said to him, "Rise, take up your bed and walk."	イエスは彼に言われた、「起きて、あなたの床を取りあげ、そして歩きなさい」。
5	9 And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked. And that day was the Sabbath.	すると、この人はすぐにいやされ、床をとりあげて歩いて行った。その日は安息日であった。
5	10 The Jews therefore said to him who was cured, "It is the Sabbath; it is not lawful for you to carry your bed."	そこでユダヤ人たちは、そのいやされた人に言った、「きょうは安息日だ。床を取りあげるのは、よろしくない」。
5	11 He answered them, "He who made me well said to me, 'Take up your bed and walk.'"	彼は答えた、「わたしをなおして下さったかたが、床を取りあげて歩けと、わたしに言われました」。
5	12 Then they asked him, "Who is the Man who said to you, 'Take up your bed and walk'?"	彼らは尋ねた、「取りあげて歩けと言った人は、だれか」。
5	13 But the one who was healed did not know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, a multitude being in that place.	しかし、このいやされた人は、それがだれであるか知らなかった。群衆がその場にいたので、イエスはそっと出て行かれたからである。
5	14 Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, "See, you have been made well. Sin no more, lest a worse thing come upon you."	そののち、イエスは宮でその人に出会ったので、彼に言われた、「ごらん、あなたはよくなった。もう罪を犯してはいけない。何かもっと悪いことが、あなたの身に起るかも知れないから」。
5	15 The man departed and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.	彼は出て行って、自分をいやしたのはイエスであったと、ユダヤ人たちに告げた。
5	16 For this reason the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to kill Him, because He had done these things on the Sabbath.	そのためユダヤ人たちは、安息日にこのようなことをしたと言って、イエスを責めた。
5	17 But Jesus answered them, "My Father has been working until now, and I have been working."	そこで、イエスは彼らに答えられた、「わたしの父は今に至るまで働いておられる。わたしも働くのである」。
5	18 Therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God.	このためにユダヤ人たちは、ますますイエスを殺そうと計るようになった。それは、イエスが安息日を破られたばかりではなく、神を自分の父と呼んで、自分を神と等しいものとされたからである。
5	19 Then Jesus answered and said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.	さて、イエスは彼らに答えて言われた、「よくよくあなたがたに言っておく。子は父のなさることを見てする以外に、自分からは何事もすることができない。父のなさることであればすべて、子もそのとおりにするのである。
5	20 For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel.	なぜなら、父は子を愛して、みずからなさることは、すべて子にお示しになるからである。そして、それよりもなお大きなわざを、お示しになるであろう。あなたがたが、それによって不思議に思うためである。
5	21 For as the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whom He will.	すなわち、父が死人を起して命をお与えになるように、子もまた、そのこころにかなう人々に命を与えるであろう。
5	22 For the Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son,	父はだれをもさばかない。さばきのことはすべて、子にゆだねられたからである。
5	23 that all should honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.	それは、すべての人が父を敬うと同様に、子を敬うためである。子を敬わない者は、子をつかわされた父をも敬わない。
5	24 "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.	よくよくあなたがたに言っておく。わたしの言葉を聞いて、わたしをつかわされたかたを信じる者は、永遠の命を受け、またさばかれることがなく、死から命に移っているのである。
5	25Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live.	よくよくあなたがたに言っておく。死んだ人たちが、神の子の声を聞く時が来る。今すでにきている。そして聞く人は生きるであろう。
5	26 For as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself,	それは、父がご自分のうちに生命をお持ちになっていると同様に、子にもまた、自分のうちに生命を持つことをお許しになったからである。
5	27 and has given Him authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of Man.	そして子は人の子であるから、子にさばきを行う権威をお与えになった。
5	28 Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice	このことを驚くには及ばない。墓の中にいる者たちがみな神の子の声を聞き、
5	29 and come forth--those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.	善をおこなった人々は、生命を受けるためによみがえり、悪をおこなった人々は、さばきを受けるためによみがえって、それぞれ出てくる時が来るであろう。
5	30 I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.	わたしは、自分からは何事もすることができない。ただ聞くままにさばくのである。そして、わたしのこのさばきは正しい。それは、わたし自身の考えでするのではなく、わたしをつかわされたかたの、み旨を求めているからである。
5	31 "If I bear witness of Myself, My witness is not true.	もし、わたしが自分自身についてあかしをするならば、わたしのあかしはほんとうではない。
5	32 There is another who bears witness of Me, and I know that the witness which He witnesses of Me is true.	わたしについてあかしをするかたはほかにあり、そして、その人がするあかしがほんとうであることを、わたしは知っている。
5	33 You have sent to John, and he has borne witness to the truth.	あなたがたはヨハネのもとへ人をつかわしたが、そのとき彼は真理についてあかしをした。
5	34 Yet I do not receive testimony from man, but I say these things that you may be saved.	わたしは人からあかしを受けないが、このことを言うのは、あなたがたが救われるためである。
5	35 He was the burning and shining lamp, and you were willing for a time to rejoice in his light.	ヨハネは燃えて輝くあかりであった。あなたがたは、しばらくの間その光を喜び楽しもうとした。
5	36 But I have a greater witness than John's; for the works which the Father has given Me to finish--the very works that I do--bear witness of Me, that the Father has sent Me.	しかし、わたしには、ヨハネのあかしよりも、もっと力あるあかしがある。父がわたしに成就させようとしてお与えになったわざ、すなわち、今わたしがしているこのわざが、父のわたしをつかわされたことをあかししている。
5	37 And the Father Himself, who sent Me, has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form.	また、わたしをつかわされた父も、ご自分でわたしについてあかしをされた。あなたがたは、まだそのみ声を聞いたこともなく、そのみ姿を見たこともない。
5	38 But you do not have His word abiding in you, because whom He sent, Him you do not believe.	また、神がつかわされた者を信じないから、神の御言はあなたがたのうちにとどまっていない。
5	39 You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me.	あなたがたは、聖書の中に永遠の命があると思って調べているが、この聖書は、わたしについてあかしをするものである。
5	40 But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.	しかも、あなたがたは、命を得るためにわたしのもとにこようともしない。
5	41 I do not receive honor from men.	わたしは人からの誉を受けることはしない。
5	42But I know you, that you do not have the love of God in you.	しかし、あなたがたのうちには神を愛する愛がないことを知っている。
5	43 I have come in My Father's name, and you do not receive Me; if another comes in his own name, him you will receive.	わたしは父の名によってきたのに、あなたがたはわたしを受けいれない。もし、ほかの人が彼自身の名によって来るならば、その人を受けいれるのであろう。
5	44 How can you believe, who receive honor from one another, and do not seek the honor that comes from the only God?	互に誉を受けながら、ただひとりの神からの誉を求めようとしないあなたがたは、どうして信じることができようか。
5	45 Do not think that I shall accuse you to the Father; there is one who accuses you--Moses, in whom you trust.	わたしがあなたがたのことを父に訴えると、考えてはいけない。あなたがたを訴える者は、あなたがたが頼みとしているモーセその人である。
5	46 For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me.	もし、あなたがたがモーセを信じたならば、わたしをも信じたであろう。モーセは、わたしについて書いたのである。
5	47 But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?"	しかし、モーセの書いたものを信じないならば、どうしてわたしの言葉を信じるだろうか」。
ヨハネによる福音書	John 6	6
6	1 After these things Jesus went over the Sea of Galilee, which is the Sea of Tiberias.	そののち、イエスはガリラヤの海、すなわち、テベリヤ湖の向こう岸へ渡られた。
6	2 Then a great multitude followed Him, because they saw His signs which He performed on those who were diseased.	すると、大ぜいの群衆がイエスについてきた。病人たちになさっていたしるしを見たからである。
6	3 And Jesus went up on the mountain, and there He sat with His disciples.	イエスは山に登って、弟子たちと一緒にそこで座につかれた。
6	4 Now the Passover, a feast of the Jews, was near.	時に、ユダヤ人の祭である過越が間近になっていた。
6	5Then Jesus lifted up His eyes, and seeing a great multitude coming toward Him, He said to Philip, "Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?"	イエスは目をあげ、大ぜいの群衆が自分の方に集まって来るのを見て、ピリポに言われた、「どこからパンを買ってきて、この人々に食べさせようか」。
6	6 But this He said to test him, for He Himself knew what He would do.	これはピリポをためそうとして言われたのであって、ご自分ではしようとすることを、よくご承知であった。
6	7 Philip answered Him, "Two hundred denarii worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one of them may have a little."	すると、ピリポはイエスに答えた、「二百デナリのパンがあっても、めいめいが少しずついただくにも足りますまい」。
6	8 One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, said to Him,	弟子のひとり、シモン・ペテロの兄弟アンデレがイエスに言った、
6	9 "There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two small fish, but what are they among so many?"	「ここに、大麦のパン五つと、さかな二ひきとを持っている子供がいます。しかし、こんなに大ぜいの人では、それが何になりましょう」。
6	10 Then Jesus said, "Make the people sit down." Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.	イエスは「人々をすわらせなさい」と言われた。その場所には草が多かった。そこにすわった男の数は五千人ほどであった。
6	11 And Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks He distributed them to the disciples, and the disciples to those sitting down; and likewise of the fish, as much as they wanted.	そこで、イエスはパンを取り、感謝してから、すわっている人々に分け与え、また、さかなをも同様にして、彼らの望むだけ分け与えられた。
6	12 So when they were filled, He said to His disciples, "Gather up the fragments that remain, so that nothing is lost."	人々がじゅうぶんに食べたのち、イエスは弟子たちに言われた、「少しでもむだにならないように、パンくずのあまりを集めなさい」。
6	13 Therefore they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves which were left over by those who had eaten.	そこで彼らが集めると、五つの大麦のパンを食べて残ったパンくずは、十二のかごにいっぱいになった。
6	14 Then those men, when they had seen the sign that Jesus did, said, "This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world."	人々はイエスのなさったこのしるしを見て、「ほんとうに、この人こそ世にきたるべき預言者である」と言った。
6	15 Therefore when Jesus perceived that they were about to come and take Him by force to make Him king, He departed again to the mountain by Himself alone.	イエスは人々がきて、自分をとらえて王にしようとしていると知って、ただひとり、また山に退かれた。
6	16 Now when evening came, His disciples went down to the sea,	夕方になったとき、弟子たちは海ベに下り、
6	17 got into the boat, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And it was already dark, and Jesus had not come to them.	舟に乗って海を渡り、向こう岸のカペナウムに行きかけた。すでに暗くなっていたのに、イエスはまだ彼らのところにおいでにならなかった。
6	18 Then the sea arose because a great wind was blowing.	その上、強い風が吹いてきて、海は荒れ出した。
6	19 So when they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near the boat; and they were afraid.	四、五十丁こぎ出したとき、イエスが海の上を歩いて舟に近づいてこられるのを見て、彼らは恐れた。
6	20 But He said to them, "It is I; do not be afraid."	すると、イエスは彼らに言われた、「わたしだ、恐れることはない」。
6	21 Then they willingly received Him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land where they were going.	そこで、彼らは喜んでイエスを舟に迎えようとした。すると舟は、すぐ、彼らが行こうとしていた地に着いた。
6	22 On the following day, when the people who were standing on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there, except that one which His disciples had entered, and that Jesus had not entered the boat with His disciples, but His disciples had gone away alone--	その翌日、海の向こう岸に立っていた群衆は、そこに小舟が一そうしかなく、またイエスは弟子たちと一緒に小舟にお乗りにならず、ただ弟子たちだけが船出したのを見た。
6	23 however, other boats came from Tiberias, near the place where they ate bread after the Lord had given thanks--	しかし、数そうの小舟がテベリヤからきて、主が感謝されたのちパンを人々に食べさせた場所に近づいた。
6	24when the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, nor His disciples, they also got into boats and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.	群衆は、イエスも弟子たちもそこにいないと知って、それらの小舟に乗り、イエスをたずねてカペナウムに行った。
6	25 And when they found Him on the other side of the sea, they said to Him, "Rabbi, when did You come here?"	そして、海の向こう岸でイエスに出会ったので言った、「先生、いつ、ここにおいでになったのですか」。
6	26 Jesus answered them and said, "Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.	イエスは答えて言われた、「よくよくあなたがたに言っておく。あなたがたがわたしを尋ねてきているのは、しるしを見たためではなく、パンを食べて満腹したからである。
6	27 Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him."	朽ちる食物のためではなく、永遠の命に至る朽ちない食物のために働くがよい。これは人の子があなたがたに与えるものである。父なる神は、人の子にそれをゆだねられたのである」。
6	28Then they said to Him, "What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?"	そこで、彼らはイエスに言った、「神のわざを行うために、わたしたちは何をしたらよいでしょうか」。
6	29 Jesus answered and said to them, "This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent."	イエスは彼らに答えて言われた、「神がつかわされた者を信じることが、神のわざである」。
6	30 Therefore they said to Him, "What sign will You perform then, that we may see it and believe You? What work will You do?	彼らはイエスに言った、「わたしたちが見てあなたを信じるために、どんなしるしを行って下さいますか。どんなことをして下さいますか。
6	31 Our fathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written, 'He gave them bread from heaven to eat.' "	わたしたちの先祖は荒野でマナを食べました。それは『天よりのパンを彼らに与えて食べさせた』と書いてあるとおりです」。
6	32 Then Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven.	そこでイエスは彼らに言われた、「よくよく言っておく。天からのパンをあなたがたに与えたのは、モーセではない。天からのまことのパンをあなたがたに与えるのは、わたしの父なのである。
6	33 For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world."	神のパンは、天から下ってきて、この世に命を与えるものである」。
6	34 Then they said to Him, "Lord, give us this bread always."	彼らはイエスに言った、「主よ、そのパンをいつもわたしたちに下さい」。
6	35 And Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.	イエスは彼らに言われた、「わたしが命のパンである。わたしに来る者は決して飢えることがなく、わたしを信じる者は決してかわくことがない。
6	36 But I said to you that you have seen Me and yet do not believe.	しかし、あなたがたに言ったが、あなたがたはわたしを見たのに信じようとはしない。
6	37 All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out.	父がわたしに与えて下さる者は皆、わたしに来るであろう。そして、わたしに来る者を決して拒みはしない。
6	38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him who sent Me.	わたしが天から下ってきたのは、自分のこころのままを行うためではなく、わたしをつかわされたかたのみこころを行うためである。
6	39 This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day.	わたしをつかわされたかたのみこころは、わたしに与えて下さった者を、わたしがひとりも失わずに、終りの日によみがえらせることである。
6	40 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day."	わたしの父のみこころは、子を見て信じる者が、ことごとく永遠の命を得ることなのである。そして、わたしはその人々を終りの日によみがえらせるであろう」。
6	41 The Jews then complained about Him, because He said, "I am the bread which came down from heaven."	ユダヤ人らは、イエスが「わたしは天から下ってきたパンである」と言われたので、イエスについてつぶやき始めた。
6	42 And they said, "Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How is it then that He says, 'I have come down from heaven'?"	そして言った、「これはヨセフの子イエスではないか。わたしたちはその父母を知っているではないか。わたしは天から下ってきたと、どうして今いうのか」。
6	43Jesus therefore answered and said to them, "Do not murmur among yourselves.	イエスは彼らに答えて言われた、「互につぶやいてはいけない。
6	44 No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day.	わたしをつかわされた父が引きよせて下さらなければ、だれもわたしに来ることはできない。わたしは、その人々を終りの日によみがえらせるであろう。
6	45 It is written in the prophets, 'And they shall all be taught by God.' Therefore everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me.	預言者の書に、『彼らはみな神に教えられるであろう』と書いてある。父から聞いて学んだ者は、みなわたしに来るのである。
6	46 Not that anyone has seen the Father, except He who is from God; He has seen the Father.	神から出た者のほかに、だれかが父を見たのではない。その者だけが父を見たのである。
6	47 Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life.	よくよくあなたがたに言っておく。信じる者には永遠の命がある。
6	48 I am the bread of life.	わたしは命のパンである。
6	49 Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and are dead.	あなたがたの先祖は荒野でマナを食べたが、死んでしまった。
6	50This is the bread which comes down from heaven, that one may eat of it and not die.	しかし、天から下ってきたパンを食べる人は、決して死ぬことはない。
6	51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world."	わたしは天から下ってきた生きたパンである。それを食べる者は、いつまでも生きるであろう。わたしが与えるパンは、世の命のために与えるわたしの肉である」。
6	52 The Jews therefore quarreled among themselves, saying, "How can this Man give us His flesh to eat?"	そこで、ユダヤ人らが互に論じて言った、「この人はどうして、自分の肉をわたしたちに与えて食べさせることができようか」。
6	53 Then Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you.	イエスは彼らに言われた、「よくよく言っておく。人の子の肉を食べず、また、その血を飲まなければ、あなたがたの内に命はない。
6	54Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.	わたしの肉を食べ、わたしの血を飲む者には、永遠の命があり、わたしはその人を終りの日によみがえらせるであろう。
6	55 For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed.	わたしの肉はまことの食物、わたしの血はまことの飲み物である。
6	56 He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.	わたしの肉を食べ、わたしの血を飲む者はわたしにおり、わたしもまたその人におる。
6	57 As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me.	生ける父がわたしをつかわされ、また、わたしが父によって生きているように、わたしを食べる者もわたしによって生きるであろう。
6	58 This is the bread which came down from heaven--not as your fathers ate the manna, and are dead. He who eats this bread will live forever."	天から下ってきたパンは、先祖たちが食べたが死んでしまったようなものではない。このパンを食べる者は、いつまでも生きるであろう」。
6	59 These things He said in the synagogue as He taught in Capernaum.	これらのことは、イエスがカペナウムの会堂で教えておられたときに言われたものである。
6	60 Therefore many of His disciples, when they heard this, said, "This is a hard saying; who can understand it?"	弟子たちのうちの多くの者は、これを聞いて言った、「これは、ひどい言葉だ。だれがそんなことを聞いておられようか」。
6	61 When Jesus knew in Himself that His disciples complained about this, He said to them, "Does this offend you?	しかしイエスは、弟子たちがそのことでつぶやいているのを見破って、彼らに言われた、「このことがあなたがたのつまずきになるのか。
6	62 What then if you should see the Son of Man ascend where He was before?	それでは、もし人の子が前にいた所に上るのを見たら、どうなるのか。
6	63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.	人を生かすものは霊であって、肉はなんの役にも立たない。わたしがあなたがたに話した言葉は霊であり、また命である。
6	64 But there are some of you who do not believe." For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would betray Him.	しかし、あなたがたの中には信じない者がいる」。イエスは、初めから、だれが信じないか、また、だれが彼を裏切るかを知っておられたのである。
6	65 And He said, "Therefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father."	そしてイエスは言われた、「それだから、父が与えて下さった者でなければ、わたしに来ることはできないと、言ったのである」。
6	66 From that time many of His disciples went back and walked with Him no more.	それ以来、多くの弟子たちは去っていって、もはやイエスと行動を共にしなかった。
6	67 Then Jesus said to the twelve, "Do you also want to go away?"	そこでイエスは十二弟子に言われた、「あなたがたも去ろうとするのか」。
6	68 But Simon Peter answered Him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.	シモン・ペテロが答えた、「主よ、わたしたちは、だれのところに行きましょう。永遠の命の言をもっているのはあなたです。
6	69 Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."	わたしたちは、あなたが神の聖者であることを信じ、また知っています」。
6	70 Jesus answered them, "Did I not choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?"	イエスは彼らに答えられた、「あなたがた十二人を選んだのは、わたしではなかったか。それだのに、あなたがたのうちのひとりは悪魔である」。
6	71 He spoke of Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, for it was he who would betray Him, being one of the twelve.	これは、イスカリオテのシモンの子ユダをさして言われたのである。このユダは、十二弟子のひとりでありながら、イエスを裏切ろうとしていた。

7	1 After these things Jesus walked in Galilee; for He did not want to walk in Judea, because the Jews sought to kill Him.	そののち、イエスはガリラヤを巡回しておられた。ユダヤ人たちが自分を殺そうとしていたので、ユダヤを巡回しようとはされなかった。
7	2 Now the Jews' Feast of Tabernacles was at hand.	時に、ユダヤ人の仮庵の祭が近づいていた。
7	3 His brothers therefore said to Him, "Depart from here and go into Judea, that Your disciples also may see the works that You are doing.	そこで、イエスの兄弟たちがイエスに言った、「あなたがしておられるわざを弟子たちにも見せるために、ここを去りユダヤに行ってはいかがです。
7	4 For no one does anything in secret while he himself seeks to be known openly. If You do these things, show Yourself to the world."	自分を公けにあらわそうと思っている人で、隠れて仕事をするものはありません。あなたがこれらのことをするからには、自分をはっきりと世にあらわしなさい」。
7	5 For even His brothers did not believe in Him.	こう言ったのは、兄弟たちもイエスを信じていなかったからである。
7	6 Then Jesus said to them, "My time has not yet come, but your time is always ready.	そこでイエスは彼らに言われた、「わたしの時はまだきていない。しかし、あなたがたの時はいつも備わっている。
7	7 The world cannot hate you, but it hates Me because I testify of it that its works are evil.	世はあなたがたを憎み得ないが、わたしを憎んでいる。わたしが世のおこないの悪いことを、あかししているからである。
7	8 You go up to this feast. I am not yet going up to this feast, for My time has not yet fully come."	あなたがたこそ祭に行きなさい。わたしはこの祭には行かない。わたしの時はまだ満ちていないから」。
7	9 When He had said these things to them, He remained in Galilee.	彼らにこう言って、イエスはガリラヤにとどまっておられた。
7	10 But when His brothers had gone up, then He also went up to the feast, not openly, but as it were in secret.	しかし、兄弟たちが祭に行ったあとで、イエスも人目にたたぬように、ひそかに行かれた。
7	11 Then the Jews sought Him at the feast, and said, "Where is He?"	ユダヤ人らは祭の時に、「あの人はどこにいるのか」と言って、イエスを捜していた。
7	12 And there was much complaining among the people concerning Him. Some said, "He is good"; others said, "No, on the contrary, He deceives the people."	群衆の中に、イエスについていろいろとうわさが立った。ある人々は、「あれはよい人だ」と言い、他の人々は、「いや、あれは群衆を惑わしている」と言った。
7	13 However, no one spoke openly of Him for fear of the Jews.	しかし、ユダヤ人らを恐れて、イエスのことを公然と口にする者はいなかった。
7	14 Now about the middle of the feast Jesus went up into the temple and taught.	祭も半ばになってから、イエスは宮に上って教え始められた。
7	15 And the Jews marveled, saying, "How does this Man know letters, having never studied?"	すると、ユダヤ人たちは驚いて言った、「この人は学問をしたこともないのに、どうして律法の知識をもっているのだろう」。
7	16 Jesus answered them and said, "My doctrine is not Mine, but His who sent Me.	そこでイエスは彼らに答えて言われた、「わたしの教はわたし自身の教ではなく、わたしをつかわされたかたの教である。
7	17 If anyone wants to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God or whether I speak on My own authority.	神のみこころを行おうと思う者であれば、だれでも、わたしの語っているこの教が神からのものか、それとも、わたし自身から出たものか、わかるであろう。
7	18 He who speaks from himself seeks his own glory; but He who seeks the glory of the One who sent Him is true, and no unrighteousness is in Him.	自分から出たことを語る者は、自分の栄光を求めるが、自分をつかわされたかたの栄光を求める者は真実であって、その人の内には偽りがない。
7	19 Did not Moses give you the law, yet none of you keeps the law? Why do you seek to kill Me?"	モーセはあなたがたに律法を与えたではないか。それだのに、あなたがたのうちには、その律法を行う者がひとりもない。あなたがたは、なぜわたしを殺そうと思っているのか」。
7	20 The people answered and said, "You have a demon. Who is seeking to kill You?"	群衆は答えた、「あなたは悪霊に取りつかれている。だれがあなたを殺そうと思っているものか」。
7	21 Jesus answered and said to them, "I did one work, and you all marvel.	イエスは彼らに答えて言われた、「わたしが一つのわざをしたところ、あなたがたは皆それを見て驚いている。
7	22 Moses therefore gave you circumcision (not that it is from Moses, but from the fathers), and you circumcise a man on the Sabbath.	モーセはあなたがたに割礼を命じたので、（これは、実は、モーセから始まったのではなく、先祖たちから始まったものである）あなたがたは安息日にも人に割礼を施している。
7	23 If a man receives circumcision on the Sabbath, so that the law of Moses should not be broken, are you angry with Me because I made a man completely well on the Sabbath?	もし、モーセの律法が破られないように、安息日であっても割礼を受けるのなら、安息日に人の全身を丈夫にしてやったからといって、どうして、そんなにおこるのか。
7	24 Do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgment."	うわべで人をさばかないで、正しいさばきをするがよい」。
7	25 Now some of them from Jerusalem said, "Is this not He whom they seek to kill?	さて、エルサレムのある人たちが言った、「この人は人々が殺そうと思っている者ではないか。
7	26 But look! He speaks boldly, and they say nothing to Him. Do the rulers know indeed that this is truly the Christ?	見よ、彼は公然と語っているのに、人々はこれに対して何も言わない。役人たちは、この人がキリストであることを、ほんとうに知っているのではなかろうか。
7	27 However, we know where this Man is from; but when the Christ comes, no one knows where He is from."	わたしたちはこの人がどこからきたのか知っている。しかし、キリストが現れる時には、どこから来るのか知っている者は、ひとりもいない」。
7	28 Then Jesus cried out, as He taught in the temple, saying, "You both know Me, and you know where I am from; and I have not come of Myself, but He who sent Me is true, whom you do not know.	イエスは宮の内で教えながら、叫んで言われた、「あなたがたは、わたしを知っており、また、わたしがどこからきたかも知っている。しかし、わたしは自分からきたのではない。わたしをつかわされたかたは真実であるが、あなたがたは、そのかたを知らない。
7	29 But I know Him, for I am from Him, and He sent Me."	わたしは、そのかたを知っている。わたしはそのかたのもとからきた者で、そのかたがわたしをつかわされたのである」。
7	30 Therefore they sought to take Him; but no one laid a hand on Him, because His hour had not yet come.	そこで人々はイエスを捕えようと計ったが、だれひとり手をかける者はなかった。イエスの時が、まだきていなかったからである。
7	31 And many of the people believed in Him, and said, "When the Christ comes, will He do more signs than these which this Man has done?"	しかし、群衆の中の多くの者が、イエスを信じて言った、「キリストがきても、この人が行ったよりも多くのしるしを行うだろうか」。
7	32 The Pharisees heard the crowd murmuring these things concerning Him, and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take Him.	群衆がイエスについてこのようなうわさをしているのを、パリサイ人たちは耳にした。そこで、祭司長たちやパリサイ人たちは、イエスを捕えようとして、下役どもをつかわした。
7	33 Then Jesus said to them, "I shall be with you a little while longer, and then I go to Him who sent Me.	イエスは言われた、「今しばらくの間、わたしはあなたがたと一緒にいて、それから、わたしをおつかわしになったかたのみもとに行く。
7	34You will seek Me and not find Me, and where I am you cannot come."	あなたがたはわたしを捜すであろうが、見つけることはできない。そしてわたしのいる所に、あなたがたは来ることができない」。
7	35 Then the Jews said among themselves, "Where does He intend to go that we shall not find Him? Does He intend to go to the Dispersion among the Greeks and teach the Greeks?	そこでユダヤ人たちは互に言った、「わたしたちが見つけることができないというのは、どこへ行こうとしているのだろう。ギリシヤ人の中に離散している人たちのところにでも行って、ギリシヤ人を教えようというのだろうか。
7	36 What is this thing that He said, 'You will seek Me and not find Me, and where I am you cannot come'?"	また、『わたしを捜すが、見つけることはできない。そしてわたしのいる所には来ることができないだろう』と言ったその言葉は、どういう意味だろう」。
7	37 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.	祭の終りの大事な日に、イエスは立って、叫んで言われた、「だれでもかわく者は、わたしのところにきて飲むがよい。
7	38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water."	わたしを信じる者は、聖書に書いてあるとおり、その腹から生ける水が川となって流れ出るであろう」。
7	39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.	これは、イエスを信じる人々が受けようとしている御霊をさして言われたのである。すなわち、イエスはまだ栄光を受けておられなかったので、御霊がまだ下っていなかったのである。
7	40 Therefore many from the crowd, when they heard this saying, said, "Truly this is the Prophet."	群衆のある者がこれらの言葉を聞いて、「このかたは、ほんとうに、あの預言者である」と言い、
7	41 Others said, "This is the Christ." But some said, "Will the Christ come out of Galilee?	ほかの人たちは「このかたはキリストである」と言い、また、ある人々は、「キリストはまさか、ガリラヤからは出てこないだろう。
7	42Has not the Scripture said that the Christ comes from the seed of David and from the town of Bethlehem, where David was?"	キリストは、ダビデの子孫から、またダビデのいたベツレヘムの村から出ると、聖書に書いてあるではないか」と言った。
7	43 So there was a division among the people because of Him.	こうして、群衆の間にイエスのことで分争が生じた。
7	44 Now some of them wanted to take Him, but no one laid hands on Him.	彼らのうちのある人々は、イエスを捕えようと思ったが、だれひとり手をかける者はなかった。
7	45Then the officers came to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, "Why have you not brought Him?"	さて、下役どもが祭司長たちやパリサイ人たちのところに帰ってきたので、彼らはその下役どもに言った、「なぜ、あの人を連れてこなかったのか」。
7	46 The officers answered, "No man ever spoke like this Man!"	下役どもは答えた、「この人の語るように語った者は、これまでにありませんでした」。
7	47 Then the Pharisees answered them, "Are you also deceived?	パリサイ人たちが彼らに答えた、「あなたがたまでが、だまされているのではないか。
7	48 Have any of the rulers or the Pharisees believed in Him?	役人たちやパリサイ人たちの中で、ひとりでも彼を信じた者があっただろうか。
7	49 But this crowd that does not know the law is accursed."	律法をわきまえないこの群衆は、のろわれている」。
7	50 Nicodemus (he who came to Jesus by night, being one of them) said to them,	彼らの中のひとりで、以前にイエスに会いにきたことのあるニコデモが、彼らに言った、
7	51 "Does our law judge a man before it hears him and knows what he is doing?"	「わたしたちの律法によれば、まずその人の言い分を聞き、その人のしたことを知った上でなければ、さばくことをしないのではないか」。
7	52 They answered and said to him, "Are you also from Galilee? Search and look, for no prophet has arisen out of Galilee."	彼らは答えて言った、「あなたもガリラヤ出なのか。よく調べてみなさい、ガリラヤからは預言者が出るものではないことが、わかるだろう」。
7	53 And everyone went to his own house.	〔そして、人々はおのおの家に帰って行った。

8	1 But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.	イエスはオリブ山に行かれた。
8	2 Now early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people came to Him; and He sat down and taught them.	朝早くまた宮にはいられると、人々が皆みもとに集まってきたので、イエスはすわって彼らを教えておられた。
8	3 Then the scribes and Pharisees brought to Him a woman caught in adultery. And when they had set her in the midst,	すると、律法学者たちやパリサイ人たちが、姦淫をしている時につかまえられた女をひっぱってきて、中に立たせた上、イエスに言った、
8	4 they said to Him, "Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery, in the very act.	「先生、この女は姦淫の場でつかまえられました。
8	5 Now Moses, in the law, commanded us that such should be stoned. But what do You say?"	モーセは律法の中で、こういう女を石で打ち殺せと命じましたが、あなたはどう思いますか」。
8	6 This they said, testing Him, that they might have something of which to accuse Him. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as though He did not hear.	彼らがそう言ったのは、イエスをためして、訴える口実を得るためであった。しかし、イエスは身をかがめて、指で地面に何か書いておられた。
8	7 So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, "He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first."	彼らが問い続けるので、イエスは身を起して彼らに言われた、「あなたがたの中で罪のない者が、まずこの女に石を投げつけるがよい」。
8	8And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground.	そしてまた身をかがめて、地面に物を書きつづけられた。
8	9 Then those who heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.	これを聞くと、彼らは年寄から始めて、ひとりびとり出て行き、ついに、イエスだけになり、女は中にいたまま残された。
8	10 When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, "Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?"	そこでイエスは身を起して女に言われた、「女よ、みんなはどこにいるか。あなたを罰する者はなかったのか」。
8	11 She said, "No one, Lord." And Jesus said to her, "Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more."	女は言った、「主よ、だれもございません」。イエスは言われた、「わたしもあなたを罰しない。お帰りなさい。今後はもう罪を犯さないように」。〕
8	12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, "I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life."	イエスは、また人々に語ってこう言われた、「わたしは世の光である。わたしに従って来る者は、やみのうちを歩くことがなく、命の光をもつであろう」。
8	13 The Pharisees therefore said to Him, "You bear witness of Yourself; Your witness is not true."	するとパリサイ人たちがイエスに言った、「あなたは、自分のことをあかししている。あなたのあかしは真実ではない」。
8	14 Jesus answered and said to them, "Even if I bear witness of Myself, My witness is true, for I know where I came from and where I am going; but you do not know where I come from and where I am going.	イエスは彼らに答えて言われた、「たとい、わたしが自分のことをあかししても、わたしのあかしは真実である。それは、わたしがどこからきたのか、また、どこへ行くのかを知っているからである。しかし、あなたがたは、わたしがどこからきて、どこへ行くのかを知らない。
8	15 You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one.	あなたがたは肉によって人をさばくが、わたしはだれもさばかない。
8	16 And yet if I do judge, My judgment is true; for I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent Me.	しかし、もしわたしがさばくとすれば、わたしのさばきは正しい。なぜなら、わたしはひとりではなく、わたしをつかわされたかたが、わたしと一緒だからである。
8	17 It is also written in your law that the testimony of two men is true.	あなたがたの律法には、ふたりによる証言は真実だと、書いてある。
8	18 I am One who bears witness of Myself, and the Father who sent Me bears witness of Me."	わたし自身のことをあかしするのは、わたしであるし、わたしをつかわされた父も、わたしのことをあかしして下さるのである」。
8	19 Then they said to Him, "Where is Your Father?" Jesus answered, "You know neither Me nor My Father. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also."	すると、彼らはイエスに言った、「あなたの父はどこにいるのか」。イエスは答えられた、「あなたがたは、わたしをもわたしの父をも知っていない。もし、あなたがたがわたしを知っていたなら、わたしの父をも知っていたであろう」。
8	20 These words Jesus spoke in the treasury, as He taught in the temple; and no one laid hands on Him, for His hour had not yet come.	イエスが宮の内で教えていた時、これらの言葉をさいせん箱のそばで語られたのであるが、イエスの時がまだきていなかったので、だれも捕える者がなかった。
8	21 Then Jesus said to them again, "I am going away, and you will seek Me, and will die in your sin. Where I go you cannot come."	さて、また彼らに言われた、「わたしは去って行く。あなたがたはわたしを捜し求めるであろう。そして自分の罪のうちに死ぬであろう。わたしの行く所には、あなたがたは来ることができない」。
8	22 So the Jews said, "Will He kill Himself, because He says, 'Where I go you cannot come'?"	そこでユダヤ人たちは言った、「わたしの行く所に、あなたがたは来ることができないと、言ったのは、あるいは自殺でもしようとするつもりか」。
8	23 And He said to them, "You are from beneath; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.	イエスは彼らに言われた、「あなたがたは下から出た者だが、わたしは上からきた者である。あなたがたはこの世の者であるが、わたしはこの世の者ではない。
8	24 Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I am He, you will die in your sins."	だからわたしは、あなたがたは自分の罪のうちに死ぬであろうと、言ったのである。もしわたしがそういう者であることをあなたがたが信じなければ、罪のうちに死ぬことになるからである」。
8	25 Then they said to Him, "Who are You?" And Jesus said to them, "Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning.	そこで彼らはイエスに言った、「あなたは、いったい、どういうかたですか」。イエスは彼らに言われた、「わたしがどういう者であるかは、初めからあなたがたに言っているではないか。
8	26 I have many things to say and to judge concerning you, but He who sent Me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I heard from Him."	あなたがたについて、わたしの言うべきこと、さばくべきことが、たくさんある。しかし、わたしをつかわされたかたは真実なかたである。わたしは、そのかたから聞いたままを世にむかって語るのである」。
8	27 They did not understand that He spoke to them of the Father.	彼らは、イエスが父について話しておられたことを悟らなかった。
8	28 Then Jesus said to them, "When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father taught Me, I speak these things.	そこでイエスは言われた、「あなたがたが人の子を上げてしまった後はじめて、わたしがそういう者であること、また、わたしは自分からは何もせず、ただ父が教えて下さったままを話していたことが、わかってくるであろう。
8	29 And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, for I always do those things that please Him."	わたしをつかわされたかたは、わたしと一緒におられる。わたしは、いつも神のみこころにかなうことをしているから、わたしをひとり置きざりになさることはない」。
8	30As He spoke these words, many believed in Him.	これらのことを語られたところ、多くの人々がイエスを信じた。
8	31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.	イエスは自分を信じたユダヤ人たちに言われた、「もしわたしの言葉にうちにとどまっておるなら、あなたがたは、ほんとうにわたしの弟子なのである。
8	32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."	また真理を知るであろう。そして真理は、あなたがたに自由を得させるであろう」。
8	33 They answered Him, "We are Abraham's descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can you say, 'You will be made free'?"	そこで、彼らはイエスに言った、「わたしたちはアブラハムの子孫であって、人の奴隷になったことなどは、一度もない。どうして、あなたがたに自由を得させるであろうと、言われるのか」。
8	34 Jesus answered them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.	イエスは彼らに答えられた、「よくよくあなたがたに言っておく。すべて罪を犯す者は罪の奴隷である。
8	35 And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever.	そして、奴隷はいつまでも家にいる者ではない。しかし、子はいつまでもいる。
8	36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.	だから、もし子があなたがたに自由を得させるならば、あなたがたは、ほんとうに自由な者となるのである。
8	37 "I know that you are Abraham's descendants, but you seek to kill Me, because My word has no place in you.	わたしは、あなたがたがアブラハムの子孫であることを知っている。それだのに、あなたがたはわたしを殺そうとしている。わたしの言葉が、あなたがたのうちに根をおろしていないからである。
8	38 I speak what I have seen with My Father, and you do what you have seen with your father."	わたしはわたしの父のもとで見たことを語っているが、あなたがたは自分の父から聞いたことを行っている」。
8	39 They answered and said to Him, "Abraham is our father." Jesus said to them, "If you were Abraham's children, you would do the works of Abraham.	彼らはイエスに答えて言った、「わたしたちの父はアブラハムである」。イエスは彼らに言われた、「もしアブラハムの子であるなら、アブラハムのわざをするがよい。
8	40 But now you seek to kill Me, a Man who has told you the truth which I heard from God. Abraham did not do this.	ところが今、神から聞いた真理をあなたがたに語ってきたこのわたしを、殺そうとしている。そんなことをアブラハムはしなかった。
8	41 You do the deeds of your father." Then they said to Him, "We were not born of fornication; we have one Father--God."	あなたがたは、あなたがたの父のわざを行っているのである」。彼らは言った、「わたしたちは、不品行の結果うまれた者ではない。わたしたちにはひとりの父がある。それは神である」。
8	42 Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I proceeded forth and came from God; nor have I come of Myself, but He sent Me.	イエスは彼らに言われた、「神があなたがたの父であるならば、あなたがたはわたしを愛するはずである。わたしは神から出た者、また神からきている者であるからだ。わたしは自分からきたのではなく、神からつかわされたのである。
8	43 Why do you not understand My speech? Because you are not able to listen to My word.	どうしてあなたがたは、わたしの話すことがわからないのか。あなたがたが、わたしの言葉を悟ることができないからである。
8	44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.	あなたがたは自分の父、すなわち、悪魔から出てきた者であって、その父の欲望どおりを行おうと思っている。彼は初めから、人殺しであって、真理に立つ者ではない。彼のうちには真理がないからである。彼が偽りを言うとき、いつも自分の本音をはいているのである。彼は偽り者であり、偽りの父であるからだ。
8	45 But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me.	しかし、わたしが真理を語っているので、あなたがたはわたしを信じようとしない。
8	46 Which of you convicts Me of sin? And if I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me?	あなたがたのうち、だれがわたしに罪があると責めうるのか。わたしは真理を語っているのに、なぜあなたがたは、わたしを信じないのか。
8	47 He who is of God hears God's words; therefore you do not hear, because you are not of God."	神からきた者は神の言葉に聞き従うが、あなたがたが聞き従わないのは、神からきた者でないからである」。
8	48 Then the Jews answered and said to Him, "Do we not say rightly that You are a Samaritan and have a demon?"	ユダヤ人たちはイエスに答えて言った、「あなたはサマリヤ人で、悪霊に取りつかれていると、わたしたちが言うのは、当然ではないか」。
8	49 Jesus answered, "I do not have a demon; but I honor My Father, and you dishonor Me.	イエスは答えられた、「わたしは、悪霊に取りつかれているのではなくて、わたしの父を重んじているのだが、あなたがたはわたしを軽んじている。
8	50 And I do not seek My own glory; there is One who seeks and judges.	わたしは自分の栄光を求めてはいない。それを求めるかたが別にある。そのかたは、またさばくかたである。
8	51 Most assuredly, I say to you, if anyone keeps My word he shall never see death."	よくよく言っておく。もし人がわたしの言葉を守るならば、その人はいつまでも死を見ることがないであろう」。
8	52Then the Jews said to Him, "Now we know that You have a demon! Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and You say, 'If anyone keeps My word he shall never taste death.'	ユダヤ人たちが言った、「あなたが悪霊に取りつかれていることが、今わかった。アブラハムは死に、預言者たちも死んでいる。それだのに、あなたは、わたしの言葉を守る者はいつまでも死を味わうことがないであろうと、言われる。
8	53 Are You greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? And the prophets are dead. Whom do You make Yourself out to be?"	あなたは、わたしたちの父アブラハムより偉いのだろうか。彼も死に、預言者たちも死んだではないか。あなたは、いったい、自分をだれと思っているのか」。
8	54 Jesus answered, "If I honor Myself, My honor is nothing. It is My Father who honors Me, of whom you say that He is your God.	イエスは答えられた、「わたしがもし自分に栄光を帰するなら、わたしの栄光は、むなしいものである。わたしに栄光を与えるかたは、わたしの父であって、あなたがたが自分の神だと言っているのは、そのかたのことである。
8	55 Yet you have not known Him, but I know Him. And if I say, 'I do not know Him,' I shall be a liar like you; but I do know Him and keep His word.	あなたがたはその神を知っていないが、わたしは知っている。もしわたしが神を知らないと言うならば、あなたがたと同じような偽り者であろう。しかし、わたしはそのかたを知り、その御言を守っている。
8	56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad."	あなたがたの父アブラハムは、わたしのこの日を見ようとして楽しんでいた。そしてそれを見て喜んだ」。
8	57 Then the Jews said to Him, "You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?"	そこでユダヤ人たちはイエスに言った、「あなたはまだ五十にもならないのに、アブラハムを見たのか」。
8	58 Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM."	イエスは彼らに言われた、「よくよくあなたがたに言っておく。アブラハムの生れる前からわたしは、いるのである」。
8	59 Then they took up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid Himself and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.	そこで彼らは石をとって、イエスに投げつけようとした。しかし、イエスは身を隠して、宮から出て行かれた。

9	1 Now as Jesus passed by, He saw a man who was blind from birth.	イエスが道をとおっておられるとき、生れつきの盲人を見られた。
9	2 And His disciples asked Him, saying, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"	弟子たちはイエスに尋ねて言った、「先生、この人が生れつき盲人なのは、だれが罪を犯したためですか。本人ですか、それともその両親ですか」。
9	3 Jesus answered, "Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in him.	イエスは答えられた、「本人が罪を犯したのでもなく、また、その両親が犯したのでもない。ただ神のみわざが、彼の上に現れるためである。
9	4 I must work the works of Him who sent Me while it is day; the night is coming when no one can work.	わたしたちは、わたしをつかわされたかたのわざを、昼の間にしなければならない。夜が来る。すると、だれも働けなくなる。
9	5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world."	わたしは、この世にいる間は、世の光である」。
9	6 When He had said these things, He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva; and He anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay.	イエスはそう言って、地につばきをし、そのつばきで、どろをつくり、そのどろを盲人の目に塗って言われた、
9	7And He said to him, "Go, wash in the pool of Siloam" (which is translated, Sent). So he went and washed, and came back seeing.	「シロアム（つかわされた者、の意）の池に行って洗いなさい」。そこで彼は行って洗った。そして見えるようになって、帰って行った。
9	8 Therefore the neighbors and those who previously had seen that he was blind said, "Is not this he who sat and begged?"	近所の人々や、彼がもと、こじきであったのを見知っていた人々が言った、「この人は、すわってこじきをしていた者ではないか」。
9	9 Some said, "This is he." Others said, "He is like him." He said, "I am he."	ある人々は「その人だ」と言い、他の人々は「いや、ただあの人に似ているだけだ」と言った。しかし、本人は「わたしがそれだ」と言った。
9	10 Therefore they said to him, "How were your eyes opened?"	そこで人々は彼に言った、「では、おまえの目はどうしてあいたのか」。
9	11He answered and said, "A Man called Jesus made clay and anointed my eyes and said to me, 'Go to the pool of Siloam and wash.' So I went and washed, and I received sight."	彼は答えた、「イエスというかたが、どろをつくって、わたしの目に塗り、『シロアムに行って洗え』と言われました。それで、行って洗うと、見えるようになりました」。
9	12 Then they said to him, "Where is He?" He said, "I do not know."	人々は彼に言った、「その人はどこにいるのか」。彼は「知りません」と答えた。
9	13 They brought him who formerly was blind to the Pharisees.	人々は、もと盲人であったこの人を、パリサイ人たちのところにつれて行った。
9	14 Now it was a Sabbath when Jesus made the clay and opened his eyes.	イエスがどろをつくって彼の目をあけたのは、安息日であった。
9	15 Then the Pharisees also asked him again how he had received his sight. He said to them, "He put clay on my eyes, and I washed, and I see."	パリサイ人たちもまた、「どうして見えるようになったのか」、と彼に尋ねた。彼は答えた、「あのかたがわたしの目にどろを塗り、わたしがそれを洗い、そして見えるようになりました」。
9	16 Therefore some of the Pharisees said, "This Man is not from God, because He does not keep the Sabbath." Others said, "How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?" And there was a division among them.	そこで、あるパリサイ人たちが言った、「その人は神からきた人ではない。安息日を守っていないのだから」。しかし、ほかの人々は言った、「罪のある人が、どうしてそのようなしるしを行うことができようか」。そして彼らの間に分争が生じた。
9	17They said to the blind man again, "What do you say about Him because He opened your eyes?" He said, "He is a prophet."	そこで彼らは、もう一度この盲人に聞いた、「おまえの目をあけてくれたその人を、どう思うか」。「預言者だと思います」と彼は言った。
9	18 But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind and received his sight, until they called the parents of him who had received his sight.	ユダヤ人たちは、彼がもと盲人であったが見えるようになったことを、まだ信じなかった。ついに彼らは、目が見えるようになったこの人の両親を呼んで、
9	19 And they asked them, saying, "Is this your son, who you say was born blind? How then does he now see?"	尋ねて言った、「これが、生れつき盲人であったと、おまえたちの言っているむすこか。それではどうして、いま目が見えるのか」。
9	20His parents answered them and said, "We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind;	両親は答えて言った、「これがわたしどものむすこであること、また生れつき盲人であったことは存じています。
9	21 but by what means he now sees we do not know, or who opened his eyes we do not know. He is of age; ask him. He will speak for himself."	しかし、どうしていま見えるようになったのか、それは知りません。また、だれがその目をあけて下さったのかも知りません。あれに聞いて下さい。あれはもうおとなですから、自分のことは自分で話せるでしょう」。
9	22 His parents said these things because they feared the Jews, for the Jews had agreed already that if anyone confessed that He was Christ, he would be put out of the synagogue.	両親はユダヤ人たちを恐れていたので、こう答えたのである。それは、もしイエスをキリストと告白する者があれば、会堂から追い出すことに、ユダヤ人たちが既に決めていたからである。
9	23 Therefore his parents said, "He is of age; ask him."	彼の両親が「おとなですから、あれに聞いて下さい」と言ったのは、そのためであった。
9	24 So they again called the man who was blind, and said to him, "Give God the glory! We know that this Man is a sinner."	そこで彼らは、盲人であった人をもう一度呼んで言った、「神に栄光を帰するがよい。あの人が罪人であることは、わたしたちにはわかっている」。
9	25 He answered and said, "Whether He is a sinner or not I do not know. One thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see."	すると彼は言った、「あのかたが罪人であるかどうか、わたしは知りません。ただ一つのことだけ知っています。わたしは盲人であったが、今は見えるということです」。
9	26 Then they said to him again, "What did He do to you? How did He open your eyes?"	そこで彼らは言った、「その人はおまえに何をしたのか。どんなにしておまえの目をあけたのか」。
9	27 He answered them, "I told you already, and you did not listen. Why do you want to hear it again? Do you also want to become His disciples?"	彼は答えた、「そのことはもう話してあげたのに、聞いてくれませんでした。なぜまた聞こうとするのですか。あなたがたも、あの人の弟子になりたいのですか」。
9	28 Then they reviled him and said, "You are His disciple, but we are Moses' disciples.	そこで彼らは彼をののしって言った、「おまえはあれの弟子だが、わたしたちはモーセの弟子だ。
9	29 We know that God spoke to Moses; as for this fellow, we do not know where He is from."	モーセに神が語られたということは知っている。だが、あの人がどこからきた者か、わたしたちは知らぬ」。
9	30 The man answered and said to them, "Why, this is a marvelous thing, that you do not know where He is from; yet He has opened my eyes!	そこで彼が答えて言った、「わたしの目をあけて下さったのに、そのかたがどこからきたか、ご存じないとは、不思議千万です。
9	31 Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him.	わたしたちはこのことを知っています。神は罪人の言うことはお聞きいれになりませんが、神を敬い、そのみこころを行う人の言うことは、聞きいれて下さいます。
9	32 Since the world began it has been unheard of that anyone opened the eyes of one who was born blind.	生れつき盲人であった者の目をあけた人があるということは、世界が始まって以来、聞いたことがありません。
9	33 If this Man were not from God, He could do nothing."	もしあのかたが神からきた人でなかったら、何一つできなかったはずです」。
9	34 They answered and said to him, "You were completely born in sins, and are you teaching us?" And they cast him out.	これを聞いて彼らは言った、「おまえは全く罪の中に生れていながら、わたしたちを教えようとするのか」。そして彼を外へ追い出した。
9	35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when He had found him, He said to him, "Do you believe in the Son of God?"	イエスは、その人が外へ追い出されたことを聞かれた。そして彼に会って言われた、「あなたは人の子を信じるか」。
9	36 He answered and said, "Who is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him?"	彼は答えて言った、「主よ、それはどなたですか。そのかたを信じたいのですが」。
9	37 And Jesus said to him, "You have both seen Him and it is He who is talking with you."	イエスは彼に言われた、「あなたは、もうその人に会っている。今あなたと話しているのが、その人である」。
9	38 Then he said, "Lord, I believe!" And he worshiped Him.	すると彼は、「主よ、信じます」と言って、イエスを拝した。
9	39 And Jesus said, "For judgment I have come into this world, that those who do not see may see, and that those who see may be made blind."	そこでイエスは言われた、「わたしがこの世にきたのは、さばくためである。すなわち、見えない人たちが見えるようになり、見える人たちが見えないようになるためである」。
9	40 Then some of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, and said to Him, "Are we blind also?"	そこにイエスと一緒にいたあるパリサイ人たちが、それを聞いてイエスに言った、「それでは、わたしたちも盲人なのでしょうか」。
9	41 Jesus said to them, "If you were blind, you would have no sin; but now you say, 'We see.' Therefore your sin remains.	イエスは彼らに言われた、「もしあなたがたが盲人であったなら、罪はなかったであろう。しかし、今あなたがたが『見える』と言い張るところに、あなたがたの罪がある。
ヨハネによる福音書	John 10	10
10	1 "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.	よくよくあなたがたに言っておく。羊の囲いにはいるのに、門からでなく、ほかの所からのりこえて来る者は、盗人であり、強盗である。
10	2 But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.	門からはいる者は、羊の羊飼である。
10	3 To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.	門番は彼のために門を開き、羊は彼の声を聞く。そして彼は自分の羊の名をよんで連れ出す。
10	4 And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.	自分の羊をみな出してしまうと、彼は羊の先頭に立って行く。羊はその声を知っているので、彼について行くのである。
10	5 Yet they will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers."	ほかの人には、ついて行かないで逃げ去る。その人の声を知らないからである」。
10	6 Jesus used this illustration, but they did not understand the things which He spoke to them.	イエスは彼らにこの比喩を話されたが、彼らは自分たちにお話しになっているのが何のことだか、わからなかった。
10	7 Then Jesus said to them again, "Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.	そこで、イエスはまた言われた、「よくよくあなたがたに言っておく。わたしは羊の門である。
10	8 All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them.	わたしよりも前にきた人は、みな盗人であり、強盗である。羊は彼らに聞き従わなかった。
10	9 I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.	わたしは門である。わたしをとおってはいる者は救われ、また出入りし、牧草にありつくであろう。
10	10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.	盗人が来るのは、盗んだり、殺したり、滅ぼしたりするためにほかならない。わたしがきたのは、羊に命を得させ、豊かに得させるためである。
10	11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.	わたしはよい羊飼である。よい羊飼は、羊のために命を捨てる。
10	12 But a hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them.	羊飼ではなく、羊が自分のものでもない雇人は、おおかみが来るのを見ると、羊をすてて逃げ去る。そして、おおかみは羊を奪い、また追い散らす。
10	13 The hireling flees because he is a hireling and does not care about the sheep.	彼は雇人であって、羊のことを心にかけていないからである。
10	14 I am the good shepherd; and I know My sheep, and am known by My own.	わたしはよい羊飼であって、わたしの羊を知り、わたしの羊はまた、わたしを知っている。
10	15 As the Father knows Me, even so I know the Father; and I lay down My life for the sheep.	それはちょうど、父がわたしを知っておられ、わたしが父を知っているのと同じである。そして、わたしは羊のために命を捨てるのである。
10	16And other sheep I have which are not of this fold; them also I must bring, and they will hear My voice; and there will be one flock and one shepherd.	わたしにはまた、この囲いにいない他の羊がある。わたしは彼らをも導かねばならない。彼らも、わたしの声に聞き従うであろう。そして、ついに一つの群れ、ひとりの羊飼となるであろう。
10	17 Therefore My Father loves Me, because I lay down My life that I may take it again.	父は、わたしが自分の命を捨てるから、わたしを愛して下さるのである。命を捨てるのは、それを再び得るためである。
10	18 No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This command I have received from My Father."	だれかが、わたしからそれを取り去るのではない。わたしが、自分からそれを捨てるのである。わたしには、それを捨てる力があり、またそれを受ける力もある。これはわたしの父から授かった定めである」。
10	19Therefore there was a division again among the Jews because of these sayings.	これらの言葉を語られたため、ユダヤ人の間にまたも分争が生じた。
10	20 And many of them said, "He has a demon and is mad. Why do you listen to Him?"	そのうちの多くの者が言った、「彼は悪霊に取りつかれて、気が狂っている。どうして、あなたがたはその言うことを聞くのか」。
10	21 Others said, "These are not the words of one who has a demon. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?"	他の人々は言った、「それは悪霊に取りつかれた者の言葉ではない。悪霊は盲人の目をあけることができようか」。
10	22 Now it was the Feast of Dedication in Jerusalem, and it was winter.	そのころ、エルサレムで宮きよめの祭が行われた。時は冬であった。
10	23 And Jesus walked in the temple, in Solomon's porch.	イエスは、宮の中にあるソロモンの廊を歩いておられた。
10	24 Then the Jews surrounded Him and said to Him, "How long do You keep us in doubt? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly."	するとユダヤ人たちが、イエスを取り囲んで言った、「いつまでわたしたちを不安のままにしておくのか。あなたがキリストであるなら、そうとはっきり言っていただきたい」。
10	25 Jesus answered them, "I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in My Father's name, they bear witness of Me.	イエスは彼らに答えられた、「わたしは話したのだが、あなたがたは信じようとしない。わたしの父の名によってしているすべてのわざが、わたしのことをあかししている。
10	26 But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, as I said to you.	あなたがたが信じないのは、わたしの羊でないからである。
10	27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.	わたしの羊はわたしの声に聞き従う。わたしは彼らを知っており、彼らはわたしについて来る。
10	28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.	わたしは、彼らに永遠の命を与える。だから、彼らはいつまでも滅びることがなく、また、彼らをわたしの手から奪い去る者はない。
10	29 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father's hand.	わたしの父がわたしに下さったものは、すべてにまさるものである。そしてだれも父のみ手から、それを奪い取ることはできない。
10	30 I and My Father are one."	わたしと父とは一つである」。
10	31 Then the Jews took up stones again to stone Him.	そこでユダヤ人たちは、イエスを打ち殺そうとして、また石を取りあげた。
10	32 Jesus answered them, "Many good works I have shown you from My Father. For which of those works do you stone Me?"	するとイエスは彼らに答えられた、「わたしは、父による多くのよいわざを、あなたがたに示した。その中のどのわざのために、わたしを石で打ち殺そうとするのか」。
10	33 The Jews answered Him, saying, "For a good work we do not stone You, but for blasphemy, and because You, being a Man, make Yourself God."	ユダヤ人たちは答えた、「あなたを石で殺そうとするのは、よいわざをしたからではなく、神を汚したからである。また、あなたは人間であるのに、自分を神としているからである」。
10	34 Jesus answered them, "Is it not written in your law, 'I said, "You are gods" '?	イエスは彼らに答えられた、「あなたがたの律法に、『わたしは言う、あなたがたは神々である』と書いてあるではないか。
10	35 If He called them gods, to whom the word of God came (and the Scripture cannot be broken),	神の言を託された人々が、神々といわれておるとすれば、（そして聖書の言は、すたることがあり得ない）
10	36 do you say of Him whom the Father sanctified and sent into the world, 'You are blaspheming,' because I said, 'I am the Son of God'?	父が聖別して、世につかわされた者が、『わたしは神の子である』と言ったからとて、どうして『あなたは神を汚す者だ』と言うのか。
10	37 If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me;	もしわたしが父のわざを行わないとすれば、わたしを信じなくてもよい。
10	38 but if I do, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, that you may know and believe that the Father is in Me, and I in Him."	しかし、もし行っているなら、たといわたしを信じなくても、わたしのわざを信じるがよい。そうすれば、父がわたしにおり、また、わたしが父におることを知って悟るであろう」。
10	39 Therefore they sought again to seize Him, but He escaped out of their hand.	そこで、彼らはまたイエスを捕えようとしたが、イエスは彼らの手をのがれて、去って行かれた。
10	40 And He went away again beyond the Jordan to the place where John was baptizing at first, and there He stayed.	さて、イエスはまたヨルダンの向こう岸、すなわち、ヨハネが初めにバプテスマを授けていた所に行き、そこに滞在しておられた。
10	41 Then many came to Him and said, "John performed no sign, but all the things that John spoke about this Man were true."	多くの人々がイエスのところにきて、互に言った、「ヨハネはなんのしるしも行わなかったが、ヨハネがこのかたについて言ったことは、皆ほんとうであった」。
10	42 And many believed in Him there.	そして、そこで多くの者がイエスを信じた。
ヨハネによる福音書	John 11	11
11	1 Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.	さて、ひとりの病人がいた。ラザロといい、マリヤとその姉妹マルタの村ベタニヤの人であった。
11	2 It was that Mary who anointed the Lord with fragrant oil and wiped His feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.	このマリヤは主に香油をぬり、自分の髪の毛で、主の足をふいた女であって、病気であったのは、彼女の兄弟ラザロであった。
11	3 Therefore the sisters sent to Him, saying, "Lord, behold, he whom You love is sick."	姉妹たちは人をイエスのもとにつかわして、「主よ、ただ今、あなたが愛しておられる者が病気をしています」と言わせた。
11	4 When Jesus heard that, He said, "This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it."	イエスはそれを聞いて言われた、「この病気は死ぬほどのものではない。それは神の栄光のため、また、神の子がそれによって栄光を受けるためのものである」。
11	5 Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.	イエスは、マルタとその姉妹とラザロとを愛しておられた。
11	6 So, when He heard that he was sick, He stayed two more days in the place where He was.	ラザロが病気であることを聞いてから、なおふつか、そのおられた所に滞在された。
11	7 Then after this He said to the disciples, "Let us go to Judea again."	それから弟子たちに、「もう一度ユダヤに行こう」と言われた。
11	8 The disciples said to Him, "Rabbi, lately the Jews sought to stone You, and are You going there again?"	弟子たちは言った、「先生、ユダヤ人らが、さきほどもあなたを石で殺そうとしていましたのに、またそこに行かれるのですか」。
11	9 Jesus answered, "Are there not twelve hours in the day? If anyone walks in the day, he does not stumble, because he sees the light of this world.	イエスは答えられた、「一日には十二時間あるではないか。昼間あるけば、人はつまずくことはない。この世の光を見ているからである。
11	10 But if one walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light is not in him."	しかし、夜あるけば、つまずく。その人のうちに、光がないからである」。
11	11 These things He said, and after that He said to them, "Our friend Lazarus sleeps, but I go that I may wake him up."	そう言われたが、それからまた、彼らに言われた、「わたしたちの友ラザロが眠っている。わたしは彼を起しに行く」。
11	12 Then His disciples said, "Lord, if he sleeps he will get well."	すると弟子たちは言った、「主よ、眠っているのでしたら、助かるでしょう」。
11	13 However, Jesus spoke of his death, but they thought that He was speaking about taking rest in sleep.	イエスはラザロが死んだことを言われたのであるが、弟子たちは、眠って休んでいることをさして言われたのだと思った。
11	14 Then Jesus said to them plainly, "Lazarus is dead.	するとイエスは、あからさまに彼らに言われた、「ラザロは死んだのだ。
11	15And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, that you may believe. Nevertheless let us go to him."	そして、わたしがそこにいあわせなかったことを、あなたがたのために喜ぶ。それは、あなたがたが信じるようになるためである。では、彼のところに行こう」。
11	16 Then Thomas, who is called the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, "Let us also go, that we may die with Him."	するとデドモと呼ばれているトマスが、仲間の弟子たちに言った、「わたしたちも行って、先生と一緒に死のうではないか」。
11	17 So when Jesus came, He found that he had already been in the tomb four days.	さて、イエスが行ってごらんになると、ラザロはすでに四日間も墓の中に置かれていた。
11	18 Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, about two miles away.	ベタニヤはエルサレムに近く、二十五丁ばかり離れたところにあった。
11	19 And many of the Jews had joined the women around Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.	大ぜいのユダヤ人が、その兄弟のことで、マルタとマリヤとを慰めようとしてきていた。
11	20 Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met Him, but Mary was sitting in the house.	マルタはイエスがこられたと聞いて、出迎えに行ったが、マリヤは家ですわっていた。
11	21 Then Martha said to Jesus, "Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died.	マルタはイエスに言った、「主よ、もしあなたがここにいて下さったなら、わたしの兄弟は死ななかったでしょう。
11	22 But even now I know that whatever You ask of God, God will give You."	しかし、あなたがどんなことをお願いになっても、神はかなえて下さることを、わたしは今でも存じています」。
11	23 Jesus said to her, "Your brother will rise again."	イエスはマルタに言われた、「あなたの兄弟はよみがえるであろう」。
11	24 Martha said to Him, "I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day."	マルタは言った、「終りの日のよみがえりの時よみがえることは、存じています」。
11	25 Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.	イエスは彼女に言われた、「わたしはよみがえりであり、命である。わたしを信じる者は、たとい死んでも生きる。
11	26 And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?"	また、生きていて、わたしを信じる者は、いつまでも死なない。あなたはこれを信じるか」。
11	27 She said to Him, "Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to come into the world."	マルタはイエスに言った、「主よ、信じます。あなたがこの世にきたるべきキリスト、神の御子であると信じております」。
11	28 And when she had said these things, she went her way and secretly called Mary her sister, saying, "The Teacher has come and is calling for you."	マルタはこう言ってから、帰って姉妹のマリヤを呼び、「先生がおいでになって、あなたを呼んでおられます」と小声で言った。
11	29 As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly and came to Him.	これを聞いたマリヤはすぐに立ち上がって、イエスのもとに行った。
11	30 Now Jesus had not yet come into the town, but was in the place where Martha met Him.	イエスはまだ村に、はいってこられず、マルタがお迎えしたその場所におられた。
11	31 Then the Jews who were with her in the house, and comforting her, when they saw that Mary rose up quickly and went out, followed her, saying, "She is going to the tomb to weep there."	マリヤと一緒に家にいて彼女を慰めていたユダヤ人たちは、マリヤが急いで立ち上がって出て行くのを見て、彼女は墓に泣きに行くのであろうと思い、そのあとからついて行った。
11	32 Then, when Mary came where Jesus was, and saw Him, she fell down at His feet, saying to Him, "Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died."	マリヤは、イエスのおられる所に行ってお目にかかり、その足もとにひれ伏して言った、「主よ、もしあなたがここにいて下さったなら、わたしの兄弟は死ななかったでしょう」。
11	33 Therefore, when Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her weeping, He groaned in the spirit and was troubled.	イエスは、彼女が泣き、また、彼女と一緒にきたユダヤ人たちも泣いているのをごらんになり、激しく感動し、また心を騒がせ、そして言われた、
11	34 And He said, "Where have you laid him?" They said to Him, "Lord, come and see."	「彼をどこに置いたのか」。彼らはイエスに言った、「主よ、きて、ごらん下さい」。
11	35 Jesus wept.	イエスは涙を流された。
11	36 Then the Jews said, "See how He loved him!"	するとユダヤ人たちは言った、「ああ、なんと彼を愛しておられたことか」。
11	37 And some of them said, "Could not this Man, who opened the eyes of the blind, also have kept this man from dying?"	しかし、彼らのある人たちは言った、「あの盲人の目をあけたこの人でも、ラザロを死なせないようには、できなかったのか」。
11	38 Then Jesus, again groaning in Himself, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone lay against it.	イエスはまた激しく感動して、墓にはいられた。それは洞穴であって、そこに石がはめてあった。
11	39 Jesus said, "Take away the stone." Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said to Him, "Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days."	イエスは言われた、「石を取りのけなさい」。死んだラザロの姉妹マルタが言った、「主よ、もう臭くなっております。四日もたっていますから」。
11	40 Jesus said to her, "Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?"	イエスは彼女に言われた、「もし信じるなら神の栄光を見るであろうと、あなたに言ったではないか」。
11	41 Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying. And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, "Father, I thank You that You have heard Me.	人々は石を取りのけた。すると、イエスは目を天にむけて言われた、「父よ、わたしの願いをお聞き下さったことを感謝します。
11	42 And I know that You always hear Me, but because of the people who are standing by I said this, that they may believe that You sent Me."	あなたがいつでもわたしの願いを聞きいれて下さることを、よく知っています。しかし、こう申しますのは、そばに立っている人々に、あなたがわたしをつかわされたことを、信じさせるためであります」。
11	43 Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, "Lazarus, come forth!"	こう言いながら、大声で「ラザロよ、出てきなさい」と呼ばわれた。
11	44 And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with graveclothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, "Loose him, and let him go."	すると、死人は手足を布でまかれ、顔も顔おおいで包まれたまま、出てきた。イエスは人々に言われた、「彼をほどいてやって、帰らせなさい」。
11	45Then many of the Jews who had come to Mary, and had seen the things Jesus did, believed in Him.	マリヤのところにきて、イエスのなさったことを見た多くのユダヤ人たちは、イエスを信じた。
11	46 But some of them went away to the Pharisees and told them the things Jesus did.	しかし、そのうちの数人がパリサイ人たちのところに行って、イエスのされたことを告げた。
11	47 Then the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered a council and said, "What shall we do? For this Man works many signs.	そこで、祭司長たちとパリサイ人たちとは、議会を召集して言った、「この人が多くのしるしを行っているのに、お互は何をしているのだ。
11	48 If we let Him alone like this, everyone will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and nation."	もしこのままにしておけば、みんなが彼を信じるようになるだろう。そのうえ、ローマ人がやってきて、わたしたちの土地も人民も奪ってしまうであろう」。
11	49 And one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said to them, "You know nothing at all,	彼らのうちのひとりで、その年の大祭司であったカヤパが、彼らに言った、「あなたがたは、何もわかっていないし、
11	50 nor do you consider that it is expedient for us that one man should die for the people, and not that the whole nation should perish."	ひとりの人が人民に代って死んで、全国民が滅びないようになるのがわたしたちにとって得だということを、考えてもいない」。
11	51 Now this he did not say on his own authority; but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation,	このことは彼が自分から言ったのではない。彼はこの年の大祭司であったので、預言をして、イエスが国民のために、
11	52 and not for that nation only, but also that He would gather together in one the children of God who were scattered abroad.	ただ国民のためだけではなく、また散在している神の子らを一つに集めるために、死ぬことになっていると、言ったのである。
11	53Then, from that day on, they plotted to put Him to death.	彼らはこの日からイエスを殺そうと相談した。
11	54Therefore Jesus no longer walked openly among the Jews, but went from there into the country near the wilderness, to a city called Ephraim, and there remained with His disciples.	そのためイエスは、もはや公然とユダヤ人の間を歩かないで、そこを出て、荒野に近い地方のエフライムという町に行かれ、そこに弟子たちと一緒に滞在しておられた。
11	55 And the Passover of the Jews was near, and many went from the country up to Jerusalem before the Passover, to purify themselves.	さて、ユダヤ人の過越の祭が近づいたので、多くの人々は身をきよめるために、祭の前に、地方からエルサレムへ上った。
11	56 Then they sought Jesus, and spoke among themselves as they stood in the temple, "What do you think--that He will not come to the feast?"	人々はイエスを捜し求め、宮の庭に立って互に言った、「あなたがたはどう思うか。イエスはこの祭にこないのだろうか」。
11	57Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a command, that if anyone knew where He was, he should report it, that they might seize Him.	祭司長たちとパリサイ人たちとは、イエスを捕えようとして、そのいどころを知っている者があれば申し出よ、という指令を出していた。
ヨハネによる福音書	John 12	12
12	1 Then, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was who had been dead, whom He had raised from the dead.	過越の祭の六日まえに、イエスはベタニヤに行かれた。そこは、イエスが死人の中からよみがえらせたラザロのいた所である。
12	2 There they made Him a supper; and Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with Him.	イエスのためにそこで夕食の用意がされ、マルタは給仕をしていた。イエスと一緒に食卓についていた者のうちに、ラザロも加わっていた。
12	3 Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil.	その時、マリヤは高価で純粋なナルドの香油一斤を持ってきて、イエスの足にぬり、自分の髪の毛でそれをふいた。すると、香油のかおりが家にいっぱいになった。
12	4 Then one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, who would betray Him, said,	弟子のひとりで、イエスを裏切ろうとしていたイスカリオテのユダが言った、
12	5 "Why was this fragrant oil not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?"	「なぜこの香油を三百デナリに売って、貧しい人たちに、施さなかったのか」。
12	6 This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it.	彼がこう言ったのは、貧しい人たちに対する思いやりがあったからではなく、自分が盗人であり、財布を預かっていて、その中身をごまかしていたからであった。
12	7But Jesus said, "Let her alone; she has kept this for the day of My burial.	イエスは言われた、「この女のするままにさせておきなさい。わたしの葬りの日のために、それをとっておいたのだから。
12	8 For the poor you have with you always, but Me you do not have always."	貧しい人たちはいつもあなたがたと共にいるが、わたしはいつも共にいるわけではない」。
12	9 Now a great many of the Jews knew that He was there; and they came, not for Jesus' sake only, but that they might also see Lazarus, whom He had raised from the dead.	大ぜいのユダヤ人たちが、そこにイエスのおられるのを知って、押しよせてきた。それはイエスに会うためだけではなく、イエスが死人のなかから、よみがえらせたラザロを見るためでもあった。
12	10 But the chief priests plotted to put Lazarus to death also,	そこで祭司長たちは、ラザロも殺そうと相談した。
12	11 because on account of him many of the Jews went away and believed in Jesus.	それは、ラザロのことで、多くのユダヤ人が彼らを離れ去って、イエスを信じるに至ったからである。
12	12 The next day a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,	その翌日、祭にきていた大ぜいの群衆は、イエスがエルサレムにこられると聞いて、
12	13 took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out: "Hosanna! 'Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!' The King of Israel!"	しゅろの枝を手にとり、迎えに出て行った。そして叫んだ、／「ホサナ、／主の御名によってきたる者に祝福あれ、／イスラエルの王に」。
12	14 Then Jesus, when He had found a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written:	イエスは、ろばの子を見つけて、その上に乗られた。それは
12	15 "Fear not, daughter of Zion; Behold, your King is coming, Sitting on a donkey's colt."	「シオンの娘よ、恐れるな。見よ、あなたの王が／ろばの子に乗っておいでになる」／と書いてあるとおりであった。
12	16 His disciples did not understand these things at first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about Him and that they had done these things to Him.	弟子たちは初めにはこのことを悟らなかったが、イエスが栄光を受けられた時に、このことがイエスについて書かれてあり、またそのとおりに、人々がイエスに対してしたのだということを、思い起した。
12	17 Therefore the people, who were with Him when He called Lazarus out of his tomb and raised him from the dead, bore witness.	また、イエスがラザロを墓から呼び出して、死人の中からよみがえらせたとき、イエスと一緒にいた群衆が、そのあかしをした。
12	18 For this reason the people also met Him, because they heard that He had done this sign.	群衆がイエスを迎えに出たのは、イエスがこのようなしるしを行われたことを、聞いていたからである。
12	19 The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, "You see that you are accomplishing nothing. Look, the world has gone after Him!"	そこで、パリサイ人たちは互に言った、「何をしてもむだだった。世をあげて彼のあとを追って行ったではないか」。
12	20Now there were certain Greeks among those who came up to worship at the feast.	祭で礼拝するために上ってきた人々のうちに、数人のギリシヤ人がいた。
12	21 Then they came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, "Sir, we wish to see Jesus."	彼らはガリラヤのベツサイダ出であるピリポのところにきて、「君よ、イエスにお目にかかりたいのですが」と言って頼んだ。

12	27 "Now My soul is troubled, and what shall I say? 'Father, save Me from this hour'? But for this purpose I came to this hour.	今わたしは心が騒いでいる。わたしはなんと言おうか。父よ、この時からわたしをお救い下さい。しかし、わたしはこのために、この時に至ったのです。
12	28Father, glorify Your name." Then a voice came from heaven, saying, "I have both glorified it and will glorify it again."	父よ、み名があがめられますように」。すると天から声があった、「わたしはすでに栄光をあらわした。そして、更にそれをあらわすであろう」。
12	29 Therefore the people who stood by and heard it said that it had thundered. Others said, "An angel has spoken to Him."	すると、そこに立っていた群衆がこれを聞いて、「雷がなったのだ」と言い、ほかの人たちは、「御使が彼に話しかけたのだ」と言った。
12	30 Jesus answered and said, "This voice did not come because of Me, but for your sake.	イエスは答えて言われた、「この声があったのは、わたしのためではなく、あなたがたのためである。
12	31 Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out.	今はこの世がさばかれる時である。今こそこの世の君は追い出されるであろう。
12	32 And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself."	そして、わたしがこの地から上げられる時には、すべての人をわたしのところに引きよせるであろう」。
12	33 This He said, signifying by what death He would die.	イエスはこう言って、自分がどんな死に方で死のうとしていたかを、お示しになったのである。
12	34 The people answered Him, "We have heard from the law that the Christ remains forever; and how can You say, 'The Son of Man must be lifted up'? Who is this Son of Man?"	すると群衆はイエスにむかって言った、「わたしたちは律法によって、キリストはいつまでも生きておいでになるのだ、と聞いていました。それだのに、どうして人の子は上げられねばならないと、言われるのですか。その人の子とは、だれのことですか」。
12	35 Then Jesus said to them, "A little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you; he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going.	そこでイエスは彼らに言われた、「もうしばらくの間、光はあなたがたと一緒にここにある。光がある間に歩いて、やみに追いつかれないようにしなさい。やみの中を歩く者は、自分がどこへ行くのかわかっていない。
12	36 While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light." These things Jesus spoke, and departed, and was hidden from them.	光のある間に、光の子となるために、光を信じなさい」。イエスはこれらのことを話してから、そこを立ち去って、彼らから身をお隠しになった。

12	43 for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.	彼らは神のほまれよりも、人のほまれを好んだからである。

12	47 And if anyone hears My words and does not believe, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world.	たとい、わたしの言うことを聞いてそれを守らない人があっても、わたしはその人をさばかない。わたしがきたのは、この世をさばくためではなく、この世を救うためである。
12	48 He who rejects Me, and does not receive My words, has that which judges him--the word that I have spoken will judge him in the last day.	わたしを捨てて、わたしの言葉を受けいれない人には、その人をさばくものがある。わたしの語ったその言葉が、終りの日にその人をさばくであろう。

13	12 So when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, "Do you know what I have done to you?	こうして彼らの足を洗ってから、上着をつけ、ふたたび席にもどって、彼らに言われた、「わたしがあなたがたにしたことがわかるか。
13	13 You call me Teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am.	あなたがたはわたしを教師、また主と呼んでいる。そう言うのは正しい。わたしはそのとおりである。
13	14 If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet.	しかし、主であり、また教師であるわたしが、あなたがたの足を洗ったからには、あなたがたもまた、互に足を洗い合うべきである。
13	15 For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.	わたしがあなたがたにしたとおりに、あなたがたもするように、わたしは手本を示したのだ。
13	16 Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him.	よくよくあなたがたに言っておく。僕はその主人にまさるものではなく、つかわされた者はつかわした者にまさるものではない。
13	17 If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.	もしこれらのことがわかっていて、それを行うなら、あなたがたはさいわいである。
13	18 I do not speak concerning all of you. I know whom I have chosen; but that the Scripture may be fulfilled, 'He who eats bread with Me has lifted up his heel against Me.'	あなたがた全部の者について、こう言っているのではない。わたしは自分が選んだ人たちを知っている。しかし、『わたしのパンを食べている者が、わたしにむかってそのかかとをあげた』とある聖書は成就されなければならない。

13	20 Most assuredly, I say to you, he who receives whomever I send receives Me; and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me."	よくよくあなたがたに言っておく。わたしがつかわす者を受けいれる者は、わたしを受けいれるのである。わたしを受けいれる者は、わたしをつかわされたかたを、受けいれるのである」。
13	21 When Jesus had said these things, He was troubled in spirit, and testified and said, "Most assuredly, I say to you, one of you will betray Me."	イエスがこれらのことを言われた後、その心が騒ぎ、おごそかに言われた、「よくよくあなたがたに言っておく。あなたがたのうちのひとりが、わたしを裏切ろうとしている」。

13	23 Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of His disciples, whom Jesus loved.	弟子たちのひとりで、イエスの愛しておられた者が、み胸に近く席についていた。
13	24 Simon Peter therefore motioned to him to ask who it was of whom He spoke.	そこで、シモン・ペテロは彼に合図をして言った、「だれのことをおっしゃったのか、知らせてくれ」。
13	25 Then, leaning back on Jesus' breast, he said to Him, "Lord, who is it?"	その弟子はそのままイエスの胸によりかかって、「主よ、だれのことですか」と尋ねると、
13	26 Jesus answered, "It is he to whom I shall give a piece of bread when I have dipped it." And having dipped the bread, He gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.	イエスは答えられた、「わたしが一きれの食物をひたして与える者が、それである」。そして、一きれの食物をひたしてとり上げ、シモンの子イスカリオテのユダにお与えになった。
13	27 Now after the piece of bread, Satan entered him. Then Jesus said to him, "What you do, do quickly."	この一きれの食物を受けるやいなや、サタンがユダにはいった。そこでイエスは彼に言われた、「しようとしていることを、今すぐするがよい」。
13	28 But no one at the table knew for what reason He said this to him.	席を共にしていた者のうち、なぜユダにこう言われたのか、わかっていた者はひとりもなかった。
13	29 For some thought, because Judas had the money box, that Jesus had said to him, "Buy those things we need for the feast," or that he should give something to the poor.	ある人々は、ユダが金入れをあずかっていたので、イエスが彼に、「祭のために必要なものを買え」と言われたか、あるいは、貧しい者に何か施させようとされたのだと思っていた。
13	30 Having received the piece of bread, he then went out immediately. And it was night.	ユダは一きれの食物を受けると、すぐに出て行った。時は夜であった。
13	31 So, when he had gone out, Jesus said, "Now the Son of Man is glorified, and God is glorified in Him.	さて、彼が出て行くと、イエスは言われた、「今や人の子は栄光を受けた。神もまた彼によって栄光をお受けになった。

13	33 Little children, I shall be with you a little while longer. You will seek Me; and as I said to the Jews, 'Where I am going, you cannot come,' so now I say to you.	子たちよ、わたしはまだしばらく、あなたがたと一緒にいる。あなたがたはわたしを捜すだろうが、すでにユダヤ人たちに言ったとおり、今あなたがたにも言う、『あなたがたはわたしの行く所に来ることはできない』。

13	36 Simon Peter said to Him, "Lord, where are You going?" Jesus answered him, "Where I am going you cannot follow Me now, but you shall follow Me afterward."	シモン・ペテロがイエスに言った、「主よ、どこへおいでになるのですか」。イエスは答えられた、「あなたはわたしの行くところに、今はついて来ることはできない。しかし、あとになってから、ついて来ることになろう」。

14	2 In My Father's house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.	わたしの父の家には、すまいがたくさんある。もしなかったならば、わたしはそう言っておいたであろう。あなたがたのために、場所を用意しに行くのだから。
14	3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.	そして、行って、場所の用意ができたならば、またきて、あなたがたをわたしのところに迎えよう。わたしのおる所にあなたがたもおらせるためである。

14	9 Jesus said to him, "Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father; so how can you say, 'Show us the Father'?	イエスは彼に言われた、「ピリポよ、こんなに長くあなたがたと一緒にいるのに、わたしがわかっていないのか。わたしを見た者は、父を見たのである。どうして、わたしたちに父を示してほしいと、言うのか。
14	10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father, and the Father in Me? The words that I speak to you I do not speak on My own authority; but the Father who dwells in Me does the works.	わたしが父におり、父がわたしにおられることをあなたは信じないのか。わたしがあなたがたに話している言葉は、自分から話しているのではない。父がわたしのうちにおられて、みわざをなさっているのである。
14	11Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.	わたしが父におり、父がわたしにおられることを信じなさい。もしそれが信じられないならば、わざそのものによって信じなさい。
14	12 "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.	よくよくあなたがたに言っておく。わたしを信じる者は、またわたしのしているわざをするであろう。そればかりか、もっと大きいわざをするであろう。わたしが父のみもとに行くからである。
14	13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.	わたしの名によって願うことは、なんでもかなえてあげよう。父が子によって栄光をお受けになるためである。
14	14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.	何事でもわたしの名によって願うならば、わたしはそれをかなえてあげよう。
14	15 "If you love Me, keep My commandments.	もしあなたがたがわたしを愛するならば、わたしのいましめを守るべきである。
14	16And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever--	わたしは父にお願いしよう。そうすれば、父は別に助け主を送って、いつまでもあなたがたと共におらせて下さるであろう。
14	17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.	それは真理の御霊である。この世はそれを見ようともせず、知ろうともしないので、それを受けることができない。あなたがたはそれを知っている。なぜなら、それはあなたがたと共におり、またあなたがたのうちにいるからである。

14	28 You have heard Me say to you, 'I am going away and coming back to you.' If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, 'I am going to the Father,' for My Father is greater than I.	『わたしは去って行くが、またあなたがたのところに帰って来る』と、わたしが言ったのを、あなたがたは聞いている。もしわたしを愛しているなら、わたしが父のもとに行くのを喜んでくれるであろう。父がわたしより大きいかたであるからである。
14	29 And now I have told you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe.	今わたしは、そのことが起らない先にあなたがたに語った。それは、事が起った時にあなたがたが信じるためである。
14	30 I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me.	わたしはもはや、あなたがたに、多くを語るまい。この世の君が来るからである。だが、彼はわたしに対して、なんの力もない。

15	3 You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.	あなたがたは、わたしが語った言葉によって既にきよくされている。
15	4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.	わたしにつながっていなさい。そうすれば、わたしはあなたがたとつながっていよう。枝がぶどうの木につながっていなければ、自分だけでは実を結ぶことができないように、あなたがたもわたしにつながっていなければ実を結ぶことができない。
15	5 I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.	わたしはぶどうの木、あなたがたはその枝である。もし人がわたしにつながっており、またわたしがその人とつながっておれば、その人は実を豊かに結ぶようになる。わたしから離れては、あなたがたは何一つできないからである。
15	6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.	人がわたしにつながっていないならば、枝のように外に投げすてられて枯れる。人々はそれをかき集め、火に投げ入れて、焼いてしまうのである。
15	7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.	あなたがたがわたしにつながっており、わたしの言葉があなたがたにとどまっているならば、なんでも望むものを求めるがよい。そうすれば、与えられるであろう。
15	8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.	あなたがたが実を豊かに結び、そしてわたしの弟子となるならば、それによって、わたしの父は栄光をお受けになるであろう。
15	9 "As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love.	父がわたしを愛されたように、わたしもあなたがたを愛したのである。わたしの愛のうちにいなさい。
15	10 If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love.	もしわたしのいましめを守るならば、あなたがたはわたしの愛のうちにおるのである。それはわたしがわたしの父のいましめを守ったので、その愛のうちにおるのと同じである。
15	11 These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.	わたしがこれらのことを話したのは、わたしの喜びがあなたがたのうちにも宿るため、また、あなたがたの喜びが満ちあふれるためである。
15	12 This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.	わたしのいましめは、これである。わたしがあなたがたを愛したように、あなたがたも互に愛し合いなさい。
15	13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends.	人がその友のために自分の命を捨てること、これよりも大きな愛はない。
15	14 You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.	あなたがたにわたしが命じることを行うならば、あなたがたはわたしの友である。
15	15 No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.	わたしはもう、あなたがたを僕とは呼ばない。僕は主人のしていることを知らないからである。わたしはあなたがたを友と呼んだ。わたしの父から聞いたことを皆、あなたがたに知らせたからである。
15	16 You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.	あなたがたがわたしを選んだのではない。わたしがあなたがたを選んだのである。そして、あなたがたを立てた。それは、あなたがたが行って実をむすび、その実がいつまでも残るためであり、また、あなたがたがわたしの名によって父に求めるものはなんでも、父が与えて下さるためである。
15	17 These things I command you, that you love one another.	これらのことを命じるのは、あなたがたが互に愛し合うためである。
15	18 "If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you.	もしこの世があなたがたを憎むならば、あなたがたよりも先にわたしを憎んだことを、知っておくがよい。
15	19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.	もしあなたがたがこの世から出たものであったなら、この世は、あなたがたを自分のものとして愛したであろう。しかし、あなたがたはこの世のものではない。かえって、わたしがあなたがたをこの世から選び出したのである。だから、この世はあなたがたを憎むのである。
15	20 Remember the word that I said to you, 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also.	わたしがあなたがたに『僕はその主人にまさるものではない』と言ったことを、おぼえていなさい。もし人々がわたしを迫害したなら、あなたがたをも迫害するであろう。また、もし彼らがわたしの言葉を守っていたなら、あなたがたの言葉をも守るであろう。
15	21 But all these things they will do to you for My name's sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me.	彼らはわたしの名のゆえに、あなたがたに対してすべてそれらのことをするであろう。それは、わたしをつかわされたかたを彼らが知らないからである。
15	22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin.	もしわたしがきて彼らに語らなかったならば、彼らは罪を犯さないですんだであろう。しかし今となっては、彼らには、その罪について言いのがれる道がない。
15	23 He who hates Me hates My Father also.	わたしを憎む者は、わたしの父をも憎む。
15	24 If I had not done among them the works which no one else did, they would have no sin; but now they have seen and also hated both Me and My Father.	もし、ほかのだれもがしなかったようなわざを、わたしが彼らの間でしなかったならば、彼らは罪を犯さないですんだであろう。しかし事実、彼らはわたしとわたしの父とを見て、憎んだのである。
15	25 But this happened that the word might be fulfilled which is written in their law, 'They hated Me without a cause.'	それは、『彼らは理由なしにわたしを憎んだ』と書いてある彼らの律法の言葉が成就するためである。
15	26 "But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me.	わたしが父のみもとからあなたがたにつかわそうとしている助け主、すなわち、父のみもとから来る真理の御霊が下る時、それはわたしについてあかしをするであろう。
15	27 And you also will bear witness, because you have been with Me from the beginning.	あなたがたも、初めからわたしと一緒にいたのであるから、あかしをするのである。

16	1 "These things I have spoken to you, that you should not be made to stumble.	わたしがこれらのことを語ったのは、あなたがたがつまずくことのないためである。
16	2 They will put you out of the synagogues; yes, the time is coming that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service.	人々はあなたがたを会堂から追い出すであろう。更にあなたがたを殺す者がみな、それによって自分たちは神に仕えているのだと思う時が来るであろう。
16	3 And these things they will do to you because they have not known the Father nor Me.	彼らがそのようなことをするのは、父をもわたしをも知らないからである。
16	4 But these things I have told you, that when the time comes, you may remember that I told you of them. And these things I did not say to you at the beginning, because I was with you.	わたしがあなたがたにこれらのことを言ったのは、彼らの時がきた場合、わたしが彼らについて言ったことを、思い起させるためである。これらのことを初めから言わなかったのは、わたしがあなたがたと一緒にいたからである。
16	5 "But now I go away to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks Me, 'Where are You going?'	けれども今わたしは、わたしをつかわされたかたのところに行こうとしている。しかし、あなたがたのうち、だれも『どこへ行くのか』と尋ねる者はない。
16	6 But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart.	かえって、わたしがこれらのことを言ったために、あなたがたの心は憂いで満たされている。
16	7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.	しかし、わたしはほんとうのことをあなたがたに言うが、わたしが去って行くことは、あなたがたの益になるのだ。わたしが去って行かなければ、あなたがたのところに助け主はこないであろう。もし行けば、それをあなたがたにつかわそう。
16	8And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:	それがきたら、罪と義とさばきとについて、世の人の目を開くであろう。
16	9 of sin, because they do not believe in Me;	罪についてと言ったのは、彼らがわたしを信じないからである。
16	10 of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more;	義についてと言ったのは、わたしが父のみもとに行き、あなたがたは、もはやわたしを見なくなるからである。
16	11 of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.	さばきについてと言ったのは、この世の君がさばかれるからである。
16	12 I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now.	わたしには、あなたがたに言うべきことがまだ多くあるが、あなたがたは今はそれに堪えられない。
16	13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.	けれども真理の御霊が来る時には、あなたがたをあらゆる真理に導いてくれるであろう。それは自分から語るのではなく、その聞くところを語り、きたるべき事をあなたがたに知らせるであろう。
16	14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.	御霊はわたしに栄光を得させるであろう。わたしのものを受けて、それをあなたがたに知らせるからである。
16	15 All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.	父がお持ちになっているものはみな、わたしのものである。御霊はわたしのものを受けて、それをあなたがたに知らせるのだと、わたしが言ったのは、そのためである。
16	16 "A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me, because I go to the Father."	しばらくすれば、あなたがたはもうわたしを見なくなる。しかし、またしばらくすれば、わたしに会えるであろう」。
16	17 Then some of His disciples said among themselves, "What is this that He says to us, 'A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me'; and, 'because I go to the Father'?"	そこで、弟子たちのうちのある者は互に言い合った、「『しばらくすれば、わたしを見なくなる。またしばらくすれば、わたしに会えるであろう』と言われ、『わたしの父のところに行く』と言われたのは、いったい、どういうことなのであろう」。
16	18 They said therefore, "What is this that He says, 'A little while'? We do not know what He is saying."	彼らはまた言った、「『しばらくすれば』と言われるのは、どういうことか。わたしたちには、その言葉の意味がわからない」。
16	19 Now Jesus knew that they desired to ask Him, and He said to them, "Are you inquiring among yourselves about what I said, 'A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me'?	イエスは、彼らが尋ねたがっていることに気がついて、彼らに言われた、「しばらくすればわたしを見なくなる、またしばらくすればわたしに会えるであろうと、わたしが言ったことで、互に論じ合っているのか。
16	20 Most assuredly, I say to you that you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice; and you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into joy.	よくよくあなたがたに言っておく。あなたがたは泣き悲しむが、この世は喜ぶであろう。あなたがたは憂えているが、その憂いは喜びに変るであろう。
16	21 A woman, when she is in labor, has sorrow because her hour has come; but as soon as she has given birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world.	女が子を産む場合には、その時がきたというので、不安を感じる。しかし、子を産んでしまえば、もはやその苦しみをおぼえてはいない。ひとりの人がこの世に生れた、という喜びがあるためである。
16	22Therefore you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you.	このように、あなたがたにも今は不安がある。しかし、わたしは再びあなたがたと会うであろう。そして、あなたがたの心は喜びに満たされるであろう。その喜びをあなたがたから取り去る者はいない。
16	23 And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you.	その日には、あなたがたがわたしに問うことは、何もないであろう。よくよくあなたがたに言っておく。あなたがたが父に求めるものはなんでも、わたしの名によって下さるであろう。
16	24 Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.	今までは、あなたがたはわたしの名によって求めたことはなかった。求めなさい、そうすれば、与えられるであろう。そして、あなたがたの喜びが満ちあふれるであろう。
16	25 "These things I have spoken to you in figurative language; but the time is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figurative language, but I will tell you plainly about the Father.	わたしはこれらのことを比喩で話したが、もはや比喩では話さないで、あからさまに、父のことをあなたがたに話してきかせる時が来るであろう。
16	26 In that day you will ask in My name, and I do not say to you that I shall pray the Father for you;	その日には、あなたがたは、わたしの名によって求めるであろう。わたしは、あなたがたのために父に願ってあげようとは言うまい。
16	27 for the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me, and have believed that I came forth from God.	父ご自身があなたがたを愛しておいでになるからである。それは、あなたがたがわたしを愛したため、また、わたしが神のみもとからきたことを信じたためである。
16	28 I came forth from the Father and have come into the world. Again, I leave the world and go to the Father."	わたしは父から出てこの世にきたが、またこの世を去って、父のみもとに行くのである」。
16	29 His disciples said to Him, "See, now You are speaking plainly, and using no figure of speech!	弟子たちは言った、「今はあからさまにお話しになって、少しも比喩ではお話しになりません。
16	30 Now we are sure that You know all things, and have no need that anyone should question You. By this we believe that You came forth from God."	あなたはすべてのことをご存じであり、だれもあなたにお尋ねする必要のないことが、今わかりました。このことによって、わたしたちはあなたが神からこられたかたであると信じます」。
16	31 Jesus answered them, "Do you now believe?	イエスは答えられた、「あなたがたは今信じているのか。
16	32 Indeed the hour is coming, yes, has now come, that you will be scattered, each to his own, and will leave Me alone. And yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me.	見よ、あなたがたは散らされて、それぞれ自分の家に帰り、わたしをひとりだけ残す時が来るであろう。いや、すでにきている。しかし、わたしはひとりでいるのではない。父がわたしと一緒におられるのである。
16	33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."	これらのことをあなたがたに話したのは、わたしにあって平安を得るためである。あなたがたは、この世ではなやみがある。しかし、勇気を出しなさい。わたしはすでに世に勝っている」。

17	1 Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: "Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You,	これらのことを語り終えると、イエスは天を見あげて言われた、「父よ、時がきました。あなたの子があなたの栄光をあらわすように、子の栄光をあらわして下さい。
17	2 as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him.	あなたは、子に賜わったすべての者に、永遠の命を授けさせるため、万民を支配する権威を子にお与えになったのですから。
17	3 And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.	永遠の命とは、唯一の、まことの神でいますあなたと、また、あなたがつかわされたイエス・キリストとを知ることであります。
17	4 I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do.	わたしは、わたしにさせるためにお授けになったわざをなし遂げて、地上であなたの栄光をあらわしました。
17	5And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.	父よ、世が造られる前に、わたしがみそばで持っていた栄光で、今み前にわたしを輝かせて下さい。
17	6 "I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word.	わたしは、あなたが世から選んでわたしに賜わった人々に、み名をあらわしました。彼らはあなたのものでありましたが、わたしに下さいました。そして、彼らはあなたの言葉を守りました。
17	7 Now they have known that all things which You have given Me are from You.	いま彼らは、わたしに賜わったものはすべて、あなたから出たものであることを知りました。
17	8 For I have given to them the words which You have given Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that You sent Me.	なぜなら、わたしはあなたからいただいた言葉を彼らに与え、そして彼らはそれを受け、わたしがあなたから出たものであることをほんとうに知り、また、あなたがわたしをつかわされたことを信じるに至ったからです。
17	9 I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours.	わたしは彼らのためにお願いします。わたしがお願いするのは、この世のためにではなく、あなたがわたしに賜わった者たちのためです。彼らはあなたのものなのです。
17	10 And all Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine, and I am glorified in them.	わたしのものは皆あなたのもの、あなたのものはわたしのものです。そして、わたしは彼らによって栄光を受けました。

17	12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in Your name. Those whom You gave Me I have kept; and none of them is lost except the son of perdition, that the Scripture might be fulfilled.	わたしが彼らと一緒にいた間は、あなたからいただいた御名によって彼らを守り、また保護してまいりました。彼らのうち、だれも滅びず、ただ滅びの子だけが滅びました。それは聖書が成就するためでした。
17	13 But now I come to You, and these things I speak in the world, that they may have My joy fulfilled in themselves.	今わたしはみもとに参ります。そして世にいる間にこれらのことを語るのは、わたしの喜びが彼らのうちに満ちあふれるためであります。
17	14 I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.	わたしは彼らに御言を与えましたが、世は彼らを憎みました。わたしが世のものでないように、彼らも世のものではないからです。
17	15 I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one.	わたしがお願いするのは、彼らを世から取り去ることではなく、彼らを悪しき者から守って下さることであります。
17	16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.	わたしが世のものでないように、彼らも世のものではありません。
17	17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.	真理によって彼らを聖別して下さい。あなたの御言は真理であります。
17	18 As You sent Me into the world, I also have sent them into the world.	あなたがわたしを世につかわされたように、わたしも彼らを世につかわしました。
17	19 And for their sakes I sanctify Myself, that they also may be sanctified by the truth.	また彼らが真理によって聖別されるように、彼らのためわたし自身を聖別いたします。
17	20 "I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word;	わたしは彼らのためばかりではなく、彼らの言葉を聞いてわたしを信じている人々のためにも、お願いいたします。
17	21 that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.	父よ、それは、あなたがわたしのうちにおられ、わたしがあなたのうちにいるように、みんなの者が一つとなるためであります。すなわち、彼らをもわたしたちのうちにおらせるためであり、それによって、あなたがわたしをおつかわしになったことを、世が信じるようになるためであります。
17	22 And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one:	わたしは、あなたからいただいた栄光を彼らにも与えました。それは、わたしたちが一つであるように、彼らも一つになるためであります。
17	23 I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.	わたしが彼らにおり、あなたがわたしにいますのは、彼らが完全に一つとなるためであり、また、あなたがわたしをつかわし、わたしを愛されたように、彼らをお愛しになったことを、世が知るためであります。
17	24 Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.	父よ、あなたがわたしに賜わった人々が、わたしのいる所に一緒にいるようにして下さい。天地が造られる前からわたしを愛して下さって、わたしに賜わった栄光を、彼らに見させて下さい。
17	25 O righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me.	正しい父よ、この世はあなたを知っていません。しかし、わたしはあなたを知り、また彼らも、あなたがわたしをおつかわしになったことを知っています。
17	26 And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them."	そしてわたしは彼らに御名を知らせました。またこれからも知らせましょう。それは、あなたがわたしを愛して下さったその愛が彼らのうちにあり、またわたしも彼らのうちにおるためであります」。

18	2 And Judas, who betrayed Him, also knew the place; for Jesus often met there with His disciples.	イエスを裏切ったユダは、その所をよく知っていた。イエスと弟子たちとがたびたびそこで集まったことがあるからである。
18	3 Then Judas, having received a detachment of troops, and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, came there with lanterns, torches, and weapons.	さてユダは、一隊の兵卒と祭司長やパリサイ人たちの送った下役どもを引き連れ、たいまつやあかりや武器を持って、そこへやってきた。
18	4 Jesus therefore, knowing all things that would come upon Him, went forward and said to them, "Whom are you seeking?"	しかしイエスは、自分の身に起ろうとすることをことごとく承知しておられ、進み出て彼らに言われた、「だれを捜しているのか」。
18	5 They answered Him, "Jesus of Nazareth." Jesus said to them, "I am He." And Judas, who betrayed Him, also stood with them.	彼らは「ナザレのイエスを」と答えた。イエスは彼らに言われた、「わたしが、それである」。イエスを裏切ったユダも、彼らと一緒に立っていた。
18	6Now when He said to them, "I am He," they drew back and fell to the ground.	イエスが彼らに「わたしが、それである」と言われたとき、彼らはうしろに引きさがって地に倒れた。

18	9 that the saying might be fulfilled which He spoke, "Of those whom You gave Me I have lost none."	それは、「あなたが与えて下さった人たちの中のひとりも、わたしは失わなかった」とイエスの言われた言葉が、成就するためである。
18	10 Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus.	シモン・ペテロは剣を持っていたが、それを抜いて、大祭司の僕に切りかかり、その右の耳を切り落した。その僕の名はマルコスであった。
18	11 So Jesus said to Peter, "Put your sword into the sheath. Shall I not drink the cup which My Father has given Me?"	すると、イエスはペテロに言われた、「剣をさやに納めなさい。父がわたしに下さった杯は、飲むべきではないか」。
18	12 Then the detachment of troops and the captain and the officers of the Jews arrested Jesus and bound Him.	それから一隊の兵卒やその千卒長やユダヤ人の下役どもが、イエスを捕え、縛りあげて、
18	13 And they led Him away to Annas first, for he was the father-in-law of Caiaphas who was high priest that year.	まずアンナスのところに引き連れて行った。彼はその年の大祭司カヤパのしゅうとであった。

18	18 Now the servants and officers who had made a fire of coals stood there, for it was cold, and they warmed themselves. And Peter stood with them and warmed himself.	僕や下役どもは、寒い時であったので、炭火をおこし、そこに立ってあたっていた。ペテロもまた彼らに交じり、立ってあたっていた。
18	19The high priest then asked Jesus about His disciples and His doctrine.	大祭司はイエスに、弟子たちのことやイエスの教のことを尋ねた。
18	20 Jesus answered him, "I spoke openly to the world. I always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where the Jews always meet, and in secret I have said nothing.	イエスは答えられた、「わたしはこの世に対して公然と語ってきた。すべてのユダヤ人が集まる会堂や宮で、いつも教えていた。何事も隠れて語ったことはない。
18	21 Why do you ask Me? Ask those who have heard Me what I said to them. Indeed they know what I said."	なぜ、わたしに尋ねるのか。わたしが彼らに語ったことは、それを聞いた人々に尋ねるがよい。わたしの言ったことは、彼らが知っているのだから」。
18	22 And when He had said these things, one of the officers who stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, "Do You answer the high priest like that?"	イエスがこう言われると、そこに立っていた下役のひとりが、「大祭司にむかって、そのような答をするのか」と言って、平手でイエスを打った。
18	23 Jesus answered him, "If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil; but if well, why do you strike Me?"	イエスは答えられた、「もしわたしが何か悪いことを言ったのなら、その悪い理由を言いなさい。しかし、正しいことを言ったのなら、なぜわたしを打つのか」。
18	24 Then Annas sent Him bound to Caiaphas the high priest.	それからアンナスは、イエスを縛ったまま大祭司カヤパのところへ送った。
18	25 Now Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. Therefore they said to him, "You are not also one of His disciples, are you?" He denied it and said, "I am not!"	シモン・ペテロは、立って火にあたっていた。すると人々が彼に言った、「あなたも、あの人の弟子のひとりではないか」。彼はそれをうち消して、「いや、そうではない」と言った。
18	26 One of the servants of the high priest, a relative of him whose ear Peter cut off, said, "Did I not see you in the garden with Him?"	大祭司の僕のひとりで、ペテロに耳を切りおとされた人の親族の者が言った、「あなたが園であの人と一緒にいるのを、わたしは見たではないか」。
18	27 Peter then denied again; and immediately a rooster crowed.	ペテロはまたそれを打ち消した。するとすぐに、鶏が鳴いた。
18	28 Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas to the Praetorium, and it was early morning. But they themselves did not go into the Praetorium, lest they should be defiled, but that they might eat the Passover.	それから人々は、イエスをカヤパのところから官邸につれて行った。時は夜明けであった。彼らは、けがれを受けないで過越の食事ができるように、官邸にはいらなかった。
18	29 Pilate then went out to them and said, "What accusation do you bring against this Man?"	そこで、ピラトは彼らのところに出てきて言った、「あなたがたは、この人に対してどんな訴えを起すのか」。
18	30 They answered and said to him, "If He were not an evildoer, we would not have delivered Him up to you."	彼らはピラトに答えて言った、「もしこの人が悪事をはたらかなかったなら、あなたに引き渡すようなことはしなかったでしょう」。
18	31 Then Pilate said to them, "You take Him and judge Him according to your law." Therefore the Jews said to him, "It is not lawful for us to put anyone to death,"	そこでピラトは彼らに言った、「あなたがたは彼を引き取って、自分たちの律法でさばくがよい」。ユダヤ人らは彼に言った、「わたしたちには、人を死刑にする権限がありません」。
18	32 that the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled which He spoke, signifying by what death He would die.	これは、ご自身がどんな死にかたをしようとしているかを示すために言われたイエスの言葉が、成就するためである。
18	33 Then Pilate entered the Praetorium again, called Jesus, and said to Him, "Are You the King of the Jews?"	さて、ピラトはまた官邸にはいり、イエスを呼び出して言った、「あなたは、ユダヤ人の王であるか」。
18	34 Jesus answered him, "Are you speaking for yourself about this, or did others tell you this concerning Me?"	イエスは答えられた、「あなたがそう言うのは、自分の考えからか。それともほかの人々が、わたしのことをあなたにそう言ったのか」。
18	35 Pilate answered, "Am I a Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered You to me. What have You done?"	ピラトは答えた、「わたしはユダヤ人なのか。あなたの同族や祭司長たちが、あなたをわたしに引き渡したのだ。あなたは、いったい、何をしたのか」。
18	36 Jesus answered, "My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here."	イエスは答えられた、「わたしの国はこの世のものではない。もしわたしの国がこの世のものであれば、わたしに従っている者たちは、わたしをユダヤ人に渡さないように戦ったであろう。しかし事実、わたしの国はこの世のものではない」。
18	37 Pilate therefore said to Him, "Are You a king then?" Jesus answered, "You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice."	そこでピラトはイエスに言った、「それでは、あなたは王なのだな」。イエスは答えられた、「あなたの言うとおり、わたしは王である。わたしは真理についてあかしをするために生れ、また、そのためにこの世にきたのである。だれでも真理につく者は、わたしの声に耳を傾ける」
18	38 Pilate said to Him, "What is truth?" And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to them, "I find no fault in Him at all.	ピラトはイエスに言った、「真理とは何か」。こう言って、彼はまたユダヤ人の所に出て行き、彼らに言った、「わたしには、この人になんの罪も見いだせない。
18	39 "But you have a custom that I should release someone to you at the Passover. Do you therefore want me to release to you the King of the Jews?"	過越の時には、わたしがあなたがたのために、ひとりの人を許してやるのが、あなたがたのしきたりになっている。ついては、あなたがたは、このユダヤ人の王を許してもらいたいのか」。
18	40 Then they all cried again, saying, "Not this Man, but Barabbas!" Now Barabbas was a robber.	すると彼らは、また叫んで「その人ではなく、バラバを」と言った。このバラバは強盗であった。

19	1 So then Pilate took Jesus and scourged Him.	そこでピラトは、イエスを捕え、むちで打たせた。
19	2 And the soldiers twisted a crown of thorns and put it on His head, and they put on Him a purple robe.	兵卒たちは、いばらで冠をあんで、イエスの頭にかぶらせ、紫の上着を着せ、
19	3 Then they said, "Hail, King of the Jews!" And they struck Him with their hands.	それから、その前に進み出て、「ユダヤ人の王、ばんざい」と言った。そして平手でイエスを打ちつづけた。
19	4 Pilate then went out again, and said to them, "Behold, I am bringing Him out to you, that you may know that I find no fault in Him."	するとピラトは、また出て行ってユダヤ人たちに言った、「見よ、わたしはこの人をあなたがたの前に引き出すが、それはこの人になんの罪も見いだせないことを、あなたがたに知ってもらうためである」。
19	5 Then Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. And Pilate said to them, "Behold the Man!"	イエスはいばらの冠をかぶり、紫の上着を着たままで外へ出られると、ピラトは彼らに言った、「見よ、この人だ」。
19	6 Therefore, when the chief priests and officers saw Him, they cried out, saying, "Crucify Him, crucify Him!" Pilate said to them, "You take Him and crucify Him, for I find no fault in Him."	祭司長たちや下役どもはイエスを見ると、叫んで「十字架につけよ、十字架につけよ」と言った。ピラトは彼らに言った、「あなたがたが、この人を引き取って十字架につけるがよい。わたしは、彼にはなんの罪も見いだせない」。
19	7 The Jews answered him, "We have a law, and according to our law He ought to die, because He made Himself the Son of God."	ユダヤ人たちは彼に答えた、「わたしたちには律法があります。その律法によれば、彼は自分を神の子としたのだから、死罪に当る者です」。
19	8Therefore, when Pilate heard that saying, he was the more afraid,	ピラトがこの言葉を聞いたとき、ますますおそれ、
19	9and went again into the Praetorium, and said to Jesus, "Where are You from?" But Jesus gave him no answer.	もう一度官邸にはいってイエスに言った、「あなたは、もともと、どこからきたのか」。しかし、イエスはなんの答もなさらなかった。
19	10 Then Pilate said to Him, "Are You not speaking to me? Do You not know that I have power to crucify You, and power to release You?"	そこでピラトは言った、「何も答えないのか。わたしには、あなたを許す権威があり、また十字架につける権威があることを、知らないのか」。
19	11 Jesus answered, "You could have no power at all against Me unless it had been given you from above. Therefore the one who delivered Me to you has the greater sin."	イエスは答えられた、「あなたは、上から賜わるのでなければ、わたしに対してなんの権威もない。だから、わたしをあなたに引き渡した者の罪は、もっと大きい」。
19	12 From then on Pilate sought to release Him, but the Jews cried out, saying, "If you let this Man go, you are not Caesar's friend. Whoever makes himself a king speaks against Caesar."	これを聞いて、ピラトはイエスを許そうと努めた。しかしユダヤ人たちが叫んで言った、「もしこの人を許したなら、あなたはカイザルの味方ではありません。自分を王とするものはすべて、カイザルにそむく者です」。
19	13 When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus out and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called The Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha.	ピラトはこれらの言葉を聞いて、イエスを外へ引き出して行き、敷石（ヘブル語ではガバタ）という場所で裁判の席についた。
19	14 Now it was the Preparation Day of the Passover, and about the sixth hour. And he said to the Jews, "Behold your King!"	その日は過越の準備の日であって、時は昼の十二時ころであった。ピラトはユダヤ人らに言った、「見よ、これがあなたがたの王だ」。
19	15 But they cried out, "Away with Him, away with Him! Crucify Him!" Pilate said to them, "Shall I crucify your King?" The chief priests answered, "We have no king but Caesar!"	すると彼らは叫んだ、「殺せ、殺せ、彼を十字架につけよ」。ピラトは彼らに言った、「あなたがたの王を、わたしが十字架につけるのか」。祭司長たちは答えた、「わたしたちには、カイザル以外に王はありません」。
19	16 Then he delivered Him to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus and led Him away.	そこでピラトは、十字架につけさせるために、イエスを彼らに引き渡した。彼らはイエスを引き取った。
19	17 And He, bearing His cross, went out to a place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha,	イエスはみずから十字架を背負って、されこうべ（ヘブル語ではゴルゴダ）という場所に出て行かれた。
19	18 where they crucified Him, and two others with Him, one on either side, and Jesus in the center.	彼らはそこで、イエスを十字架につけた。イエスをまん中にして、ほかのふたりの者を両側に、イエスと一緒に十字架につけた。
19	19 Now Pilate wrote a title and put it on the cross. And the writing was: JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS.	ピラトは罪状書きを書いて、十字架の上にかけさせた。それには「ユダヤ人の王、ナザレのイエス」と書いてあった。
19	20 Then many of the Jews read this title, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, Greek, and Latin.	イエスが十字架につけられた場所は都に近かったので、多くのユダヤ人がこの罪状書きを読んだ。それはヘブル、ローマ、ギリシヤの国語で書いてあった。
19	21 Therefore the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, "Do not write, 'The King of the Jews,' but, 'He said, "I am the King of the Jews." ' "	ユダヤ人の祭司長たちがピラトに言った、「『ユダヤ人の王』と書かずに、『この人はユダヤ人の王と自称していた』と書いてほしい」。
19	22 Pilate answered, "What I have written, I have written."	ピラトは答えた、「わたしが書いたことは、書いたままにしておけ」。
19	23 Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took His garments and made four parts, to each soldier a part, and also the tunic. Now the tunic was without seam, woven from the top in one piece.	さて、兵卒たちはイエスを十字架につけてから、その上着をとって四つに分け、おのおの、その一つを取った。また下着を手に取ってみたが、それには縫い目がなく、上の方から全部一つに織ったものであった。
19	24 They said therefore among themselves, "Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be," that the Scripture might be fulfilled which says: "They divided My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots." Therefore the soldiers did these things.	そこで彼らは互に言った、「それを裂かないで、だれのものになるか、くじを引こう」。これは、「彼らは互にわたしの上着を分け合い、わたしの衣をくじ引にした」という聖書が成就するためで、兵卒たちはそのようにしたのである。
19	25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.	さて、イエスの十字架のそばには、イエスの母と、母の姉妹と、クロパの妻マリヤと、マグダラのマリヤとが、たたずんでいた。
19	26 When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, "Woman, behold your son!"	イエスは、その母と愛弟子とがそばに立っているのをごらんになって、母にいわれた、「婦人よ、ごらんなさい。これはあなたの子です」。
19	27 Then He said to the disciple, "Behold your mother!" And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home.	それからこの弟子に言われた、「ごらんなさい。これはあなたの母です」。そのとき以来、この弟子はイエスの母を自分の家に引きとった。
19	28 After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, "I thirst!"	そののち、イエスは今や万事が終ったことを知って、「わたしは、かわく」と言われた。それは、聖書が全うされるためであった。
19	29 Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on hyssop, and put it to His mouth.	そこに、酢いぶどう酒がいっぱい入れてある器がおいてあったので、人々は、このぶどう酒を含ませた海綿をヒソプの茎に結びつけて、イエスの口もとにさし出した。
19	30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "It is finished!" And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.	すると、イエスはそのぶどう酒を受けて、「すべてが終った」と言われ、首をたれて息をひきとられた。
19	31 Therefore, because it was the Preparation Day, that the bodies should not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.	さてユダヤ人たちは、その日が準備の日であったので、安息日に死体を十字架の上に残しておくまいと、（特にその安息日は大事な日であったから）、ピラトに願って、足を折った上で、死体を取りおろすことにした。
19	32 Then the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first and of the other who was crucified with Him.	そこで兵卒らがきて、イエスと一緒に十字架につけられた初めの者と、もうひとりの者との足を折った。
19	33 But when they came to Jesus and saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs.	しかし、彼らがイエスのところにきた時、イエスはもう死んでおられたのを見て、その足を折ることはしなかった。
19	34 But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.	しかし、ひとりの兵卒がやりでそのわきを突きさすと、すぐ血と水とが流れ出た。
19	35 And he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you may believe.	それを見た者があかしをした。そして、そのあかしは真実である。その人は、自分が真実を語っていることを知っている。それは、あなたがたも信ずるようになるためである。
19	36 For these things were done that the Scripture should be fulfilled, "Not one of His bones shall be broken."	これらのことが起ったのは、「その骨はくだかれないであろう」との聖書の言葉が、成就するためである。
19	37 And again another Scripture says, "They shall look on Him whom they pierced."	また聖書のほかのところに、「彼らは自分が刺し通した者を見るであろう」とある。
19	38 After this, Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly, for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took the body of Jesus.	そののち、ユダヤ人をはばかって、ひそかにイエスの弟子となったアリマタヤのヨセフという人が、イエスの死体を取りおろしたいと、ピラトに願い出た。ピラトはそれを許したので、彼はイエスの死体を取りおろしに行った。
19	39 And Nicodemus, who at first came to Jesus by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds.	また、前に、夜、イエスのみもとに行ったニコデモも、没薬と沈香とをまぜたものを百斤ほど持ってきた。
19	40 Then they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in strips of linen with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury.	彼らは、イエスの死体を取りおろし、ユダヤ人の埋葬の習慣にしたがって、香料を入れて亜麻布で巻いた。
19	41 Now in the place where He was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been laid.	イエスが十字架にかけられた所には、一つの園があり、そこにはまだだれも葬られたことのない新しい墓があった。
19	42 So there they laid Jesus, because of the Jews' Preparation Day, for the tomb was nearby.	その日はユダヤ人の準備の日であったので、その墓が近くにあったため、イエスをそこに納めた。

20	1 Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene went to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb.	さて、一週の初めの日に、朝早くまだ暗いうちに、マグダラのマリヤが墓に行くと、墓から石がとりのけてあるのを見た。
20	2 Then she ran and came to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and said to them, "They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid Him."	そこで走って、シモン・ペテロとイエスが愛しておられた、もうひとりの弟子のところへ行って、彼らに言った、「だれかが、主を墓から取り去りました。どこへ置いたのか、わかりません」。
20	3 Peter therefore went out, and the other disciple, and were going to the tomb.	そこでペテロともうひとりの弟子は出かけて、墓へむかって行った。
20	4 So they both ran together, and the other disciple outran Peter and came to the tomb first.	ふたりは一緒に走り出したが、そのもうひとりの弟子の方が、ペテロよりも早く走って先に墓に着き、
20	5And he, stooping down and looking in, saw the linen cloths lying there; yet he did not go in.	そして身をかがめてみると、亜麻布がそこに置いてあるのを見たが、中へははいらなかった。
20	6 Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb; and he saw the linen cloths lying there,	シモン・ペテロも続いてきて、墓の中にはいった。彼は亜麻布がそこに置いてあるのを見たが、
20	7 and the handkerchief that had been around His head, not lying with the linen cloths, but folded together in a place by itself.	イエスの頭に巻いてあった布は亜麻布のそばにはなくて、はなれた別の場所にくるめてあった。
20	8 Then the other disciple, who came to the tomb first, went in also; and he saw and believed.	すると、先に墓に着いたもうひとりの弟子もはいってきて、これを見て信じた。
20	9 For as yet they did not know the Scripture, that He must rise again from the dead.	しかし、彼らは死人のうちからイエスがよみがえるべきことをしるした聖句を、まだ悟っていなかった。
20	10 Then the disciples went away again to their own homes.	それから、ふたりの弟子たちは自分の家に帰って行った。
20	11 But Mary stood outside by the tomb weeping, and as she wept she stooped down and looked into the tomb.	しかし、マリヤは墓の外に立って泣いていた。そして泣きながら、身をかがめて墓の中をのぞくと、
20	12And she saw two angels in white sitting, one at the head and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.	白い衣を着たふたりの御使が、イエスの死体のおかれていた場所に、ひとりは頭の方に、ひとりは足の方に、すわっているのを見た。
20	13 Then they said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?" She said to them, "Because they have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid Him."	すると、彼らはマリヤに、「女よ、なぜ泣いているのか」と言った。マリヤは彼らに言った、「だれかが、わたしの主を取り去りました。そして、どこに置いたのか、わからないのです」。
20	14 Now when she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, and did not know that it was Jesus.	そう言って、うしろをふり向くと、そこにイエスが立っておられるのを見た。しかし、それがイエスであることに気がつかなかった。
20	15Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?" She, supposing Him to be the gardener, said to Him, "Sir, if You have carried Him away, tell me where You have laid Him, and I will take Him away."	イエスは女に言われた、「女よ、なぜ泣いているのか。だれを捜しているのか」。マリヤは、その人が園の番人だと思って言った、「もしあなたが、あのかたを移したのでしたら、どこへ置いたのか、どうぞ、おっしゃって下さい。わたしがそのかたを引き取ります」。
20	16 Jesus said to her, "Mary!" She turned and said to Him, "Rabboni!" (which is to say, Teacher).	イエスは彼女に「マリヤよ」と言われた。マリヤはふり返って、イエスにむかってヘブル語で「ラボニ」と言った。それは、先生という意味である。
20	17 Jesus said to her, "Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ascended to My Father; but go to My brethren and say to them, 'I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to My God and your God.' "	イエスは彼女に言われた、「わたしにさわってはいけない。わたしは、まだ父のみもとに上っていないのだから。ただ、わたしの兄弟たちの所に行って、『わたしは、わたしの父またあなたがたの父であって、わたしの神またあなたがたの神であられるかたのみもとへ上って行く』と、彼らに伝えなさい」。
20	18 Mary Magdalene came and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord, and that He had spoken these things to her.	マグダラのマリヤは弟子たちのところに行って、自分が主に会ったこと、またイエスがこれこれのことを自分に仰せになったことを、報告した。
20	19 Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, "Peace be with you."	その日、すなわち、一週の初めの日の夕方、弟子たちはユダヤ人をおそれて、自分たちのおる所の戸をみなしめていると、イエスがはいってきて、彼らの中に立ち、「安かれ」と言われた。
20	20 When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.	そう言って、手とわきとを、彼らにお見せになった。弟子たちは主を見て喜んだ。
20	21 So Jesus said to them again, "Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you."	イエスはまた彼らに言われた、「安かれ。父がわたしをおつかわしになったように、わたしもまたあなたがたをつかわす」。
20	22 And when He had said this, He breathed on them, and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit.	そう言って、彼らに息を吹きかけて仰せになった、「聖霊を受けよ。
20	23 If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained."	あなたがたがゆるす罪は、だれの罪でもゆるされ、あなたがたがゆるさずにおく罪は、そのまま残るであろう」。
20	24 Now Thomas, called the Twin, one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came.	十二弟子のひとりで、デドモと呼ばれているトマスは、イエスがこられたとき、彼らと一緒にいなかった。
20	25 The other disciples therefore said to him, "We have seen the Lord." So he said to them, "Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and put my hand into His side, I will not believe."	ほかの弟子たちが、彼に「わたしたちは主にお目にかかった」と言うと、トマスは彼らに言った、「わたしは、その手に釘あとを見、わたしの指をその釘あとにさし入れ、また、わたしの手をそのわきにさし入れてみなければ、決して信じない」。
20	26 And after eight days His disciples were again inside, and Thomas with them. Jesus came, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, "Peace to you!"	八日ののち、イエスの弟子たちはまた家の内におり、トマスも一緒にいた。戸はみな閉ざされていたが、イエスがはいってこられ、中に立って「安かれ」と言われた。
20	27 Then He said to Thomas, "Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing."	それからトマスに言われた、「あなたの指をここにつけて、わたしの手を見なさい。手をのばしてわたしのわきにさし入れてみなさい。信じない者にならないで、信じる者になりなさい」。
20	28 And Thomas answered and said to Him, "My Lord and my God!"	トマスはイエスに答えて言った、「わが主よ、わが神よ」。
20	29 Jesus said to him, "Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."	イエスは彼に言われた、「あなたはわたしを見たので信じたのか。見ないで信ずる者は、さいわいである」。
20	30And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book;	イエスは、この書に書かれていないしるしを、ほかにも多く、弟子たちの前で行われた。
20	31 but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.	しかし、これらのことを書いたのは、あなたがたがイエスは神の子キリストであると信じるためであり、また、そう信じて、イエスの名によって命を得るためである。

21	1 After these things Jesus showed Himself again to the disciples at the Sea of Tiberias, and in this way He showed Himself:	そののち、イエスはテベリヤの海べで、ご自身をまた弟子たちにあらわされた。そのあらわされた次第は、こうである。
21	2 Simon Peter, Thomas called the Twin, Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of His disciples were together.	シモン・ペテロが、デドモと呼ばれているトマス、ガリラヤのカナのナタナエル、ゼベダイの子らや、ほかのふたりの弟子たちと一緒にいた時のことである。
21	3 Simon Peter said to them, "I am going fishing." They said to him, "We are going with you also." They went out and immediately got into the boat, and that night they caught nothing.	シモン・ペテロは彼らに「わたしは漁に行くのだ」と言うと、彼らは「わたしたちも一緒に行こう」と言った。彼らは出て行って舟に乗った。しかし、その夜はなんの獲物もなかった。
21	4 But when the morning had now come, Jesus stood on the shore; yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus.	夜が明けたころ、イエスが岸に立っておられた。しかし弟子たちはそれがイエスだとは知らなかった。
21	5 Then Jesus said to them, "Children, have you any food?" They answered Him, "No."	イエスは彼らに言われた、「子たちよ、何か食べるものがあるか」。彼らは「ありません」と答えた。
21	6 And He said to them, "Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some." So they cast, and now they were not able to draw it in because of the multitude of fish.	すると、イエスは彼らに言われた、「舟の右の方に網をおろして見なさい。そうすれば、何かとれるだろう」。彼らは網をおろすと、魚が多くとれたので、それを引き上げることができなかった。
21	7 Therefore that disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, "It is the Lord!" Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment (for he had removed it), and plunged into the sea.	イエスの愛しておられた弟子が、ペテロに「あれは主だ」と言った。シモン・ペテロは主であると聞いて、裸になっていたため、上着をまとって海にとびこんだ。
21	8 But the other disciples came in the little boat (for they were not far from land, but about two hundred cubits), dragging the net with fish.	しかし、ほかの弟子たちは舟に乗ったまま、魚のはいっている網を引きながら帰って行った。陸からはあまり遠くない五十間ほどの所にいたからである。
21	9 Then, as soon as they had come to land, they saw a fire of coals there, and fish laid on it, and bread.	彼らが陸に上って見ると、炭火がおこしてあって、その上に魚がのせてあり、またそこにパンがあった。
21	10Jesus said to them, "Bring some of the fish which you have just caught."	イエスは彼らに言われた、「今とった魚を少し持ってきなさい」。
21	11 Simon Peter went up and dragged the net to land, full of large fish, one hundred and fifty-three; and although there were so many, the net was not broken.	シモン・ペテロが行って、網を陸へ引き上げると、百五十三びきの大きな魚でいっぱいになっていた。そんなに多かったが、網はさけないでいた。
21	12 Jesus said to them, "Come and eat breakfast." Yet none of the disciples dared ask Him, "Who are You?"--knowing that it was the Lord.	イエスは彼らに言われた、「さあ、朝の食事をしなさい」。弟子たちは、主であることがわかっていたので、だれも「あなたはどなたですか」と進んで尋ねる者がなかった。
21	13 Jesus then came and took the bread and gave it to them, and likewise the fish.	イエスはそこにきて、パンをとり彼らに与え、また魚も同じようにされた。
21	14 This is now the third time Jesus showed Himself to His disciples after He was raised from the dead.	イエスが死人の中からよみがえったのち、弟子たちにあらわれたのは、これで既に三度目である。
21	15 So when they had eaten breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, "Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me more than these?" He said to Him, "Yes, Lord; You know that I love You." He said to him, "Feed My lambs."	彼らが食事をすませると、イエスはシモン・ペテロに言われた、「ヨハネの子シモンよ、あなたはこの人たちが愛する以上に、わたしを愛するか」。ペテロは言った、「主よ、そうです。わたしがあなたを愛することは、あなたがご存じです」。イエスは彼に「わたしの小羊を養いなさい」と言われた。
21	16 He said to him again a second time, "Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?" He said to Him, "Yes, Lord; You know that I love You." He said to him, "Tend My sheep."	またもう一度彼に言われた、「ヨハネの子シモンよ、わたしを愛するか」。彼はイエスに言った、「主よ、そうです。わたしがあなたを愛することは、あなたがご存じです」。イエスは彼に言われた、「わたしの羊を飼いなさい」。
21	17 He said to him the third time, "Simon, son of Jonah, do you love Me?" Peter was grieved because He said to him the third time, "Do you love Me?" And he said to Him, "Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You." Jesus said to him, "Feed My sheep.	イエスは三度目に言われた、「ヨハネの子シモンよ、わたしを愛するか」。ペテロは「わたしを愛するか」とイエスが三度も言われたので、心をいためてイエスに言った、「主よ、あなたはすべてをご存じです。わたしがあなたを愛していることは、おわかりになっています」。イエスは彼に言われた、「わたしの羊を養いなさい。
21	18 Most assuredly, I say to you, when you were younger, you girded yourself and walked where you wished; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will gird you and carry you where you do not wish."	よくよくあなたに言っておく。あなたが若かった時には、自分で帯をしめて、思いのままに歩きまわっていた。しかし年をとってからは、自分の手をのばすことになろう。そして、ほかの人があなたに帯を結びつけ、行きたくない所へ連れて行くであろう」。
21	19 This He spoke, signifying by what death he would glorify God. And when He had spoken this, He said to him, "Follow Me."	これは、ペテロがどんな死に方で、神の栄光をあらわすかを示すために、お話しになったのである。こう話してから、「わたしに従ってきなさい」と言われた。
21	20Then Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following, who also had leaned on His breast at the supper, and said, "Lord, who is the one who betrays You?"	ペテロはふり返ると、イエスの愛しておられた弟子がついて来るのを見た。この弟子は、あの夕食のときイエスの胸近くに寄りかかって、「主よ、あなたを裏切る者は、だれなのですか」と尋ねた人である。
21	21 Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus, "But Lord, what about this man?"	ペテロはこの弟子を見て、イエスに言った、「主よ、この人はどうなのですか」。
21	22 Jesus said to him, "If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me."	イエスは彼に言われた、「たとい、わたしの来る時まで彼が生き残っていることを、わたしが望んだとしても、あなたにはなんの係わりがあるか。あなたは、わたしに従ってきなさい」。
21	23 Then this saying went out among the brethren that this disciple would not die. Yet Jesus did not say to him that he would not die, but, "If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you?"	こういうわけで、この弟子は死ぬことがないといううわさが、兄弟たちの間にひろまった。しかし、イエスは彼が死ぬことはないと言われたのではなく、ただ「たとい、わたしの来る時まで彼が生き残っていることを、わたしが望んだとしても、あなたにはなんの係わりがあるか」と言われただけである。
21	24 This is the disciple who testifies of these things, and wrote these things; and we know that his testimony is true.	これらの事についてあかしをし、またこれらの事を書いたのは、この弟子である。そして彼のあかしが真実であることを、わたしたちは知っている。
21	25 And there are also many other things that Jesus did, which if they were written one by one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. Amen.	イエスのなさったことは、このほかにまだ数多くある。もしいちいち書きつけるならば、世界もその書かれた文書を収めきれないであろうと思う。
