1	1 Paul and Timothy, bondservants of Jesus Christ, To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are in Philippi, with the bishops and deacons:	キリスト・イエスの僕たち、パウロとテモテから、ピリピにいる、キリスト・イエスにあるすべての聖徒たち、ならびに監督たちと執事たちへ。
1	2Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.	わたしたちの父なる神と主イエス・キリストから、恵みと平安とが、あなたがたにあるように。
1	3 I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,	わたしはあなたがたを思うたびごとに、わたしの神に感謝し、
1	4always in every prayer of mine making request for you all with joy,	あなたがた一同のために祈るとき、いつも喜びをもって祈り、
1	5for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now,	あなたがたが最初の日から今日に至るまで、福音にあずかっていることを感謝している。
1	6 being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;	そして、あなたがたのうちに良いわざを始められたかたが、キリスト・イエスの日までにそれを完成して下さるにちがいないと、確信している。
1	7 just as it is right for me to think this of you all, because I have you in my heart, inasmuch as both in my chains and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel, you all are partakers with me of grace.	わたしが、あなたがた一同のために、そう考えるのは当然である。それは、わたしが獄に捕われている時にも、福音を弁明し立証する時にも、あなたがたをみな、共に恵みにあずかる者として、わたしの心に深く留めているからである。
1	8 For God is my witness, how greatly I long for you all with the affection of Jesus Christ.	わたしがキリスト・イエスの熱愛をもって、どんなに深くあなたがた一同を思っていることか、それを証明して下さるかたは神である。
1	9 And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment,	わたしはこう祈る。あなたがたの愛が、深い知識において、するどい感覚において、いよいよ増し加わり、
1	10 that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ,	それによって、あなたがたが、何が重要であるかを判別することができ、キリストの日に備えて、純真で責められるところのないものとなり、
1	11 being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.	イエス・キリストによる義の実に満たされて、神の栄光とほまれとをあらわすに至るように。
1	12 But I want you to know, brethren, that the things which happened to me have actually turned out for the furtherance of the gospel,	さて、兄弟たちよ。わたしの身に起った事が、むしろ福音の前進に役立つようになったことを、あなたがたに知ってもらいたい。
1	13 so that it has become evident to the whole palace guard, and to all the rest, that my chains are in Christ;	すなわち、わたしが獄に捕われているのはキリストのためであることが、兵営全体にもそのほかのすべての人々にも明らかになり、
1	14 and most of the brethren in the Lord, having become confident by my chains, are much more bold to speak the word without fear.	そして兄弟たちのうち多くの者は、わたしの入獄によって主にある確信を得、恐れることなく、ますます勇敢に、神の言を語るようになった。
1	15 Some indeed preach Christ even from envy and strife, and some also from good will:	一方では、ねたみや闘争心からキリストを宣べ伝える者がおり、他方では善意からそうする者がいる。
1	16 The former preach Christ from selfish ambition, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my chains;	後者は、わたしが福音を弁明するために立てられていることを知り、愛の心でキリストを伝え、
1	17 but the latter out of love, knowing that I am appointed for the defense of the gospel.	前者は、わたしの入獄の苦しみに更に患難を加えようと思って、純真な心からではなく、党派心からそうしている。
1	18 What then? Only that in every way, whether in pretense or in truth, Christ is preached; and in this I rejoice, yes, and will rejoice.	すると、どうなのか。見えからであるにしても、真実からであるにしても、要するに、伝えられているのはキリストなのだから、わたしはそれを喜んでいるし、また喜ぶであろう。
1	19 For I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayer and the supply of the Spirit of Jesus Christ,	なぜなら、あなたがたの祈と、イエス・キリストの霊の助けとによって、この事がついには、わたしの救となることを知っているからである。
1	20 according to my earnest expectation and hope that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death.	そこで、わたしが切実な思いで待ち望むことは、わたしが、どんなことがあっても恥じることなく、かえって、いつものように今も、大胆に語ることによって、生きるにも死ぬにも、わたしの身によってキリストがあがめられることである。
1	21 For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.	わたしにとっては、生きることはキリストであり、死ぬことは益である。
1	22 But if I live on in the flesh, this will mean fruit from my labor; yet what I shall choose I cannot tell.	しかし、肉体において生きていることが、わたしにとっては実り多い働きになるのだとすれば、どちらを選んだらよいか、わたしにはわからない。
1	23For I am hard pressed between the two, having a desire to depart and be with Christ, which is far better.	わたしは、これら二つのものの間に板ばさみになっている。わたしの願いを言えば、この世を去ってキリストと共にいることであり、実は、その方がはるかに望ましい。
1	24 Nevertheless to remain in the flesh is more needful for you.	しかし、肉体にとどまっていることは、あなたがたのためには、さらに必要である。
1	25 And being confident of this, I know that I shall remain and continue with you all for your progress and joy of faith,	こう確信しているので、わたしは生きながらえて、あなたがた一同のところにとどまり、あなたがたの信仰を進ませ、その喜びを得させようと思う。
1	26 that your rejoicing for me may be more abundant in Jesus Christ by my coming to you again.	そうなれば、わたしが再びあなたがたのところに行くので、あなたがたはわたしによってキリスト・イエスにある誇を増すことになろう。
1	27 Only let your conduct be worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or am absent, I may hear of your affairs, that you stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel,	ただ、あなたがたはキリストの福音にふさわしく生活しなさい。そして、わたしが行ってあなたがたに会うにしても、離れているにしても、あなたがたが一つの霊によって堅く立ち、一つ心になって福音の信仰のために力を合わせて戦い、
1	28and not in any way terrified by your adversaries, which is to them a proof of perdition, but to you of salvation, and that from God.	かつ、何事についても、敵対する者どもにろうばいさせられないでいる様子を、聞かせてほしい。このことは、彼らには滅びのしるし、あなたがたには救のしるしであって、それは神から来るのである。
1	29 For to you it has been granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake,	あなたがたはキリストのために、ただ彼を信じることだけではなく、彼のために苦しむことをも賜わっている。
1	30 having the same conflict which you saw in me and now hear is in me.	あなたがたは、さきにわたしについて見、今またわたしについて聞いているのと同じ苦闘を、続けているのである。

2	1 Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy,	そこで、あなたがたに、キリストによる勧め、愛の励まし、御霊の交わり、熱愛とあわれみとが、いくらかでもあるなら、
2	2 fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.	どうか同じ思いとなり、同じ愛の心を持ち、心を合わせ、一つ思いになって、わたしの喜びを満たしてほしい。
2	3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.	何事も党派心や虚栄からするのでなく、へりくだった心をもって互に人を自分よりすぐれた者としなさい。
2	4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.	おのおの、自分のことばかりでなく、他人のことも考えなさい。
2	5 Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,	キリスト・イエスにあっていだいているのと同じ思いを、あなたがたの間でも互に生かしなさい。
2	6 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God,	キリストは、神のかたちであられたが、神と等しくあることを固守すべき事とは思わず、
2	7 but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.	かえって、おのれをむなしうして僕のかたちをとり、人間の姿になられた。その有様は人と異ならず、
2	8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.	おのれを低くして、死に至るまで、しかも十字架の死に至るまで従順であられた。
2	9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,	それゆえに、神は彼を高く引き上げ、すべての名にまさる名を彼に賜わった。
2	10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,	それは、イエスの御名によって、天上のもの、地上のもの、地下のものなど、あらゆるものがひざをかがめ、
2	11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.	また、あらゆる舌が、「イエス・キリストは主である」と告白して、栄光を父なる神に帰するためである。
2	12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;	わたしの愛する者たちよ。そういうわけだから、あなたがたがいつも従順であったように、わたしが一緒にいる時だけでなく、いない今は、いっそう従順でいて、恐れおののいて自分の救の達成に努めなさい。
2	13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.	あなたがたのうちに働きかけて、その願いを起させ、かつ実現に至らせるのは神であって、それは神のよしとされるところだからである。
2	14 Do all things without complaining and disputing,	すべてのことを、つぶやかず疑わないでしなさい。
2	15 that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,	それは、あなたがたが責められるところのない純真な者となり、曲った邪悪な時代のただ中にあって、傷のない神の子となるためである。あなたがたは、いのちの言葉を堅く持って、彼らの間で星のようにこの世に輝いている。
2	16 holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain.	このようにして、キリストの日に、わたしは自分の走ったことがむだでなく、労したこともむだではなかったと誇ることができる。
2	17 Yes, and if I am being poured out as a drink offering on the sacrifice and service of your faith, I am glad and rejoice with you all.	そして、たとい、あなたがたの信仰の供え物をささげる祭壇に、わたしの血をそそぐことがあっても、わたしは喜ぼう。あなたがた一同と共に喜ぼう。
2	18 For the same reason you also be glad and rejoice with me.	同じように、あなたがたも喜びなさい。わたしと共に喜びなさい。
2	19 But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you shortly, that I also may be encouraged when I know your state.	さて、わたしは、まもなくテモテをあなたがたのところに送りたいと、主イエスにあって願っている。それは、あなたがたの様子を知って、わたしも力づけられたいからである。
2	20 For I have no one like-minded, who will sincerely care for your state.	テモテのような心で、親身になってあなたがたのことを心配している者は、ほかにひとりもない。
2	21 For all seek their own, not the things which are of Christ Jesus.	人はみな、自分のことを求めるだけで、キリスト・イエスのことは求めていない。
2	22 But you know his proven character, that as a son with his father he served with me in the gospel.	しかし、テモテの錬達ぶりは、あなたがたの知っているとおりである。すなわち、子が父に対するようにして、わたしと一緒に福音に仕えてきたのである。
2	23 Therefore I hope to send him at once, as soon as I see how it goes with me.	そこで、この人を、わたしの成行きがわかりしだい、すぐにでも、そちらへ送りたいと願っている。
2	24 But I trust in the Lord that I myself shall also come shortly.	わたし自身もまもなく行けるものと、主にあって確信している。
2	25 Yet I considered it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, fellow worker, and fellow soldier, but your messenger and the one who ministered to my need;	しかし、さしあたり、わたしの同労者で戦友である兄弟、また、あなたがたの使者としてわたしの窮乏を補ってくれたエパフロデトを、あなたがたのもとに送り返すことが必要だと思っている。
2	26 since he was longing for you all, and was distressed because you had heard that he was sick.	彼は、あなたがた一同にしきりに会いたがっているからである。その上、自分の病気のことがあなたがたに聞えたので、彼は心苦しく思っている。
2	27 For indeed he was sick almost unto death; but God had mercy on him, and not only on him but on me also, lest I should have sorrow upon sorrow.	彼は実に、ひん死の病気にかかったが、神は彼をあわれんで下さった。彼ばかりではなく、わたしをもあわれんで下さったので、わたしは悲しみに悲しみを重ねないですんだのである。
2	28 Therefore I sent him the more eagerly, that when you see him again you may rejoice, and I may be less sorrowful.	そこで、大急ぎで彼を送り返す。これで、あなたがたは彼と再び会って喜び、わたしもまた、心配を和らげることができよう。
2	29 Receive him therefore in the Lord with all gladness, and hold such men in esteem;	こういうわけだから、大いに喜んで、主にあって彼を迎えてほしい。また、こうした人々は尊重せねばならない。
2	30 because for the work of Christ he came close to death, not regarding his life, to supply what was lacking in your service toward me.	彼は、わたしに対してあなたがたが奉仕のできなかった分を補おうとして、キリストのわざのために命をかけ、死ぬばかりになったのである。

3	1 Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. For me to write the same things to you is not tedious, but for you it is safe.	最後に、わたしの兄弟たちよ。主にあって喜びなさい。さきに書いたのと同じことをここで繰り返すが、それは、わたしには煩わしいことではなく、あなたがたには安全なことになる。
3	2 Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the mutilation!	あの犬どもを警戒しなさい。悪い働き人たちを警戒しなさい。肉に割礼の傷をつけている人たちを警戒しなさい。
3	3 For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh,	神の霊によって礼拝をし、キリスト・イエスを誇とし、肉を頼みとしないわたしたちこそ、割礼の者である。
3	4 though I also might have confidence in the flesh. If anyone else thinks he may have confidence in the flesh, I more so:	もとより、肉の頼みなら、わたしにも無くはない。もし、だれかほかの人が肉を頼みとしていると言うなら、わたしはそれをもっと頼みとしている。
3	5 circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of the Hebrews; concerning the law, a Pharisee;	わたしは八日目に割礼を受けた者、イスラエルの民族に属する者、ベニヤミン族の出身、ヘブル人の中のヘブル人、律法の上ではパリサイ人、
3	6 concerning zeal, persecuting the church; concerning the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.	熱心の点では教会の迫害者、律法の義については落ち度のない者である。
3	7 But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ.	しかし、わたしにとって益であったこれらのものを、キリストのゆえに損と思うようになった。
3	8Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ	わたしは、更に進んで、わたしの主キリスト・イエスを知る知識の絶大な価値のゆえに、いっさいのものを損と思っている。キリストのゆえに、わたしはすべてを失ったが、それらのものを、ふん土のように思っている。それは、わたしがキリストを得るためであり、
3	9 and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;	律法による自分の義ではなく、キリストを信じる信仰による義、すなわち、信仰に基く神からの義を受けて、キリストのうちに自分を見いだすようになるためである。
3	10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death,	すなわち、キリストとその復活の力とを知り、その苦難にあずかって、その死のさまとひとしくなり、
3	11 if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.	なんとかして死人のうちからの復活に達したいのである。
3	12 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.	わたしがすでにそれを得たとか、すでに完全な者になっているとか言うのではなく、ただ捕えようとして追い求めているのである。そうするのは、キリスト・イエスによって捕えられているからである。
3	13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,	兄弟たちよ。わたしはすでに捕えたとは思っていない。ただこの一事を努めている。すなわち、後のものを忘れ、前のものに向かってからだを伸ばしつつ、
3	14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.	目標を目ざして走り、キリスト・イエスにおいて上に召して下さる神の賞与を得ようと努めているのである。
3	15 Therefore let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you.	だから、わたしたちの中で全き人たちは、そのように考えるべきである。しかし、あなたがたが違った考えを持っているなら、神はそのことも示して下さるであろう。
3	16 Nevertheless, to the degree that we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us be of the same mind.	ただ、わたしたちは、達し得たところに従って進むべきである。
3	17 Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern.	兄弟たちよ。どうか、わたしにならう者となってほしい。また、あなたがたの模範にされているわたしたちにならって歩く人たちに、目をとめなさい。
3	18 For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:	わたしがそう言うのは、キリストの十字架に敵対して歩いている者が多いからである。わたしは、彼らのことをしばしばあなたがたに話したが、今また涙を流して語る。
3	19 whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame--who set their mind on earthly things.	彼らの最後は滅びである。彼らの神はその腹、彼らの栄光はその恥、彼らの思いは地上のことである。
3	20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,	しかし、わたしたちの国籍は天にある。そこから、救主、主イエス・キリストのこられるのを、わたしたちは待ち望んでいる。

4	1 Therefore, my beloved and longed-for brethren, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, beloved.	だから、わたしの愛し慕っている兄弟たちよ。わたしの喜びであり冠である愛する者たちよ。このように、主にあって堅く立ちなさい。
4	2 I implore Euodia and I implore Syntyche to be of the same mind in the Lord.	わたしはユウオデヤに勧め、またスントケに勧める。どうか、主にあって一つ思いになってほしい。
4	3 And I urge you also, true companion, help these women who labored with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and the rest of my fellow workers, whose names are in the Book of Life.	ついては、真実な協力者よ。あなたにお願いする。このふたりの女を助けてあげなさい。彼らは、「いのちの書」に名を書きとめられているクレメンスや、その他の同労者たちと協力して、福音のためにわたしと共に戦ってくれた女たちである。
4	4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!	あなたがたは、主にあっていつも喜びなさい。繰り返して言うが、喜びなさい。
4	5 Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.	あなたがたの寛容を、みんなの人に示しなさい。主は近い。
4	6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;	何事も思い煩ってはならない。ただ、事ごとに、感謝をもって祈と願いとをささげ、あなたがたの求めるところを神に申し上げるがよい。
4	7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.	そうすれば、人知ではとうてい測り知ることのできない神の平安が、あなたがたの心と思いとを、キリスト・イエスにあって守るであろう。
4	8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy--meditate on these things.	最後に、兄弟たちよ。すべて真実なこと、すべて尊ぶべきこと、すべて正しいこと、すべて純真なこと、すべて愛すべきこと、すべてほまれあること、また徳といわれるもの、称賛に値するものがあれば、それらのものを心にとめなさい。
4	9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.	あなたがたが、わたしから学んだこと、受けたこと、聞いたこと、見たことは、これを実行しなさい。そうすれば、平和の神が、あなたがたと共にいますであろう。
4	10 But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly that now at last your care for me has flourished again; though you surely did care, but you lacked opportunity.	さて、わたしが主にあって大いに喜んでいるのは、わたしを思う心が、あなたがたに今またついに芽ばえてきたことである。実は、あなたがたは、わたしのことを心にかけてくれてはいたが、よい機会がなかったのである。
4	11 Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content:	わたしは乏しいから、こう言うのではない。わたしは、どんな境遇にあっても、足ることを学んだ。
4	12 I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.	わたしは貧に処する道を知っており、富におる道も知っている。わたしは、飽くことにも飢えることにも、富むことにも乏しいことにも、ありとあらゆる境遇に処する秘けつを心得ている。
4	13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.	わたしを強くして下さるかたによって、何事でもすることができる。
4	14 Nevertheless you have done well that you shared in my distress.	しかし、あなたがたは、よくもわたしと患難を共にしてくれた。
4	15 Now you Philippians know also that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church shared with me concerning giving and receiving but you only.	ピリピの人たちよ。あなたがたも知っているとおり、わたしが福音を宣伝し始めたころ、マケドニヤから出かけて行った時、物のやりとりをしてわたしの働きに参加した教会は、あなたがたのほかには全く無かった。
4	16 For even in Thessalonica you sent aid once and again for my necessities.	またテサロニケでも、一再ならず、物を送ってわたしの欠乏を補ってくれた。
4	17Not that I seek the gift, but I seek the fruit that abounds to your account.	わたしは、贈り物を求めているのではない。わたしの求めているのは、あなたがたの勘定をふやしていく果実なのである。
4	18 Indeed I have all and abound. I am full, having received from Epaphroditus the things sent from you, a sweet-smelling aroma, an acceptable sacrifice, well pleasing to God.	わたしは、すべての物を受けてあり余るほどである。エパフロデトから、あなたがたの贈り物をいただいて、飽き足りている。それは、かんばしいかおりであり、神の喜んで受けて下さる供え物である。
4	19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.	わたしの神は、ご自身の栄光の富の中から、あなたがたのいっさいの必要を、キリスト・イエスにあって満たして下さるであろう。
4	20 Now to our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.	わたしたちの父なる神に、栄光が世々限りなくあるように、アァメン。
4	21 Greet every saint in Christ Jesus. The brethren who are with me greet you.	キリスト・イエスにある聖徒のひとりびとりに、よろしく。わたしと一緒にいる兄弟たちから、あなたがたによろしく。
4	22 All the saints greet you, but especially those who are of Caesar's household.	すべての聖徒たちから、特にカイザルの家の者たちから、よろしく。
4	23 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.	主イエス・キリストの恵みが、あなたがたの霊と共にあるように。
