テトスへの手紙	Titus 1	1
1	1 Paul, a bondservant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect and the acknowledgment of the truth which accords with godliness,	神の僕、イエス・キリストの使徒パウロから――わたしが使徒とされたのは、神に選ばれた者たちの信仰を強め、また、信心にかなう真理の知識を彼らに得させるためであり、
1	2 in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began,	偽りのない神が永遠の昔に約束された永遠のいのちの望みに基くのである。
1	3 but has in due time manifested His word through preaching, which was committed to me according to the commandment of God our Savior;	神は、定められた時に及んで、御言を宣教によって明らかにされたが、わたしは、わたしたちの救主なる神の任命によって、この宣教をゆだねられたのである――
1	4 To Titus, a true son in our common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior.	信仰を同じうするわたしの真実の子テトスへ。父なる神とわたしたちの救主キリスト・イエスから、恵みと平安とが、あなたにあるように。
1	5 For this reason I left you in Crete, that you should set in order the things that are lacking, and appoint elders in every city as I commanded you--	あなたをクレテにおいてきたのは、わたしがあなたに命じておいたように、そこにし残してあることを整理してもらい、また、町々に長老を立ててもらうためにほかならない。
1	6 if a man is blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of dissipation or insubordination.	長老は、責められる点がなく、ひとりの妻の夫であって、その子たちも不品行のうわさをたてられず、親不孝をしない信者でなくてはならない。
1	7 For a bishop must be blameless, as a steward of God, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, not given to wine, not violent, not greedy for money,	監督たる者は、神に仕える者として、責められる点がなく、わがままでなく、軽々しく怒らず、酒を好まず、乱暴でなく、利をむさぼらず、
1	8 but hospitable, a lover of what is good, sober-minded, just, holy, self-controlled,	かえって、旅人をもてなし、善を愛し、慎み深く、正しく、信仰深く、自制する者であり、
1	9 holding fast the faithful word as he has been taught, that he may be able, by sound doctrine, both to exhort and convict those who contradict.	教にかなった信頼すべき言葉を守る人でなければならない。それは、彼が健全な教によって人をさとし、また、反対者の誤りを指摘することができるためである。
1	10 For there are many insubordinate, both idle talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision,	実は、法に服さない者、空論に走る者、人の心を惑わす者が多くおり、とくに、割礼のある者の中に多い。
1	11whose mouths must be stopped, who subvert whole households, teaching things which they ought not, for the sake of dishonest gain.	彼らの口を封ずべきである。彼らは恥ずべき利のために、教えてはならないことを教えて、数々の家庭を破壊してしまっている。
1	12 One of them, a prophet of their own, said, "Cretans are always liars, evil beasts, lazy gluttons."	クレテ人のうちのある預言者が／「クレテ人は、いつもうそつき、／たちの悪いけもの、／なまけ者の食いしんぼう」／と言っているが、
1	13 This testimony is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, that they may be sound in the faith,	この非難はあたっている。だから、彼らをきびしく責めて、その信仰を健全なものにし、
1	14 not giving heed to Jewish fables and commandments of men who turn from the truth.	ユダヤ人の作り話や、真理からそれていった人々の定めなどに、気をとられることがないようにさせなさい。
1	15 To the pure all things are pure, but to those who are defiled and unbelieving nothing is pure; but even their mind and conscience are defiled.	きよい人には、すべてのものがきよい。しかし、汚れている不信仰な人には、きよいものは一つもなく、その知性も良心も汚れてしまっている。
1	16 They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work.	彼らは神を知っていると、口では言うが、行いではそれを否定している。彼らは忌まわしい者、また不従順な者であって、いっさいの良いわざに関しては、失格者である。

2	1 But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine:	しかし、あなたは、健全な教にかなうことを語りなさい。
2	2 that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience;	老人たちには自らを制し、謹厳で、慎み深くし、また、信仰と愛と忍耐とにおいて健全であるように勧め、
2	3 the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things--	年老いた女たちにも、同じように、たち居ふるまいをうやうやしくし、人をそしったり大酒の奴隷になったりせず、良いことを教える者となるように、勧めなさい。
2	4 that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,	そうすれば、彼女たちは、若い女たちに、夫を愛し、子供を愛し、
2	5 to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.	慎み深く、純潔で、家事に努め、善良で、自分の夫に従順であるように教えることになり、したがって、神の言がそしりを受けないようになるであろう。
2	6 Likewise exhort the young men to be sober-minded,	若い男にも、同じく、万事につけ慎み深くあるように、勧めなさい。
2	7 in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility,	あなた自身を良いわざの模範として示し、人を教える場合には、清廉と謹厳とをもってし、
2	8 sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you.	非難のない健全な言葉を用いなさい。そうすれば、反対者も、わたしたちについてなんの悪口も言えなくなり、自ら恥じいるであろう。
2	9Exhort bondservants to be obedient to their own masters, to be well pleasing in all things, not answering back,	奴隷には、万事につけその主人に服従して、喜ばれるようになり、反抗をせず、
2	10 not pilfering, but showing all good fidelity, that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.	盗みをせず、どこまでも心をこめた真実を示すようにと、勧めなさい。そうすれば、彼らは万事につけ、わたしたちの救主なる神の教を飾ることになろう。
2	11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,	すべての人を救う神の恵みが現れた。
2	12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age,	そして、わたしたちを導き、不信心とこの世の情欲とを捨てて、慎み深く、正しく、信心深くこの世で生活し、
2	13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,	祝福に満ちた望み、すなわち、大いなる神、わたしたちの救主キリスト・イエスの栄光の出現を待ち望むようにと、教えている。
2	14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.	このキリストが、わたしたちのためにご自身をささげられたのは、わたしたちをすべての不法からあがない出して、良いわざに熱心な選びの民を、ご自身のものとして聖別するためにほかならない。
2	15 Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you.	あなたは、権威をもってこれらのことを語り、勧め、また責めなさい。だれにも軽んじられてはならない。
テトスへの手紙	Titus 3	3
3	1 Remind them to be subject to rulers and authorities, to obey, to be ready for every good work,	あなたは彼らに勧めて、支配者、権威ある者に服し、これに従い、いつでも良いわざをする用意があり、
3	2 to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men.	だれをもそしらず、争わず、寛容であって、すべての人に対してどこまでも柔和な態度を示すべきことを、思い出させなさい。
3	3 For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another.	わたしたちも以前には、無分別で、不従順な、迷っていた者であって、さまざまの情欲と快楽との奴隷になり、悪意とねたみとで日を過ごし、人に憎まれ、互に憎み合っていた。
3	4 But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared,	ところが、わたしたちの救主なる神の慈悲と博愛とが現れたとき、
3	5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,	わたしたちの行った義のわざによってではなく、ただ神のあわれみによって、再生の洗いを受け、聖霊により新たにされて、わたしたちは救われたのである。
3	6 whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior,	この聖霊は、わたしたちの救主イエス・キリストをとおして、わたしたちの上に豊かに注がれた。
3	7 that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.	これは、わたしたちが、キリストの恵みによって義とされ、永遠のいのちを望むことによって、御国をつぐ者となるためである。
3	8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I want you to affirm constantly, that those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable to men.	この言葉は確実である。わたしは、あなたがそれらのことを主張するのを願っている。それは、神を信じている者たちが、努めて良いわざを励むことを心がけるようになるためである。これは良いことであって、人々の益となる。
3	9 But avoid foolish disputes, genealogies, contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and useless.	しかし、愚かな議論と、系図と、争いと、律法についての論争とを、避けなさい。それらは無益かつ空虚なことである。
3	10 Reject a divisive man after the first and second admonition,	異端者は、一、二度、訓戒を加えた上で退けなさい。
3	11 knowing that such a person is warped and sinning, being self-condemned.	たしかに、こういう人たちは、邪道に陥り、自ら悪と知りつつも、罪を犯しているからである。
3	12 When I send Artemas to you, or Tychicus, be diligent to come to me at Nicopolis, for I have decided to spend the winter there.	わたしがアルテマスかテキコかをあなたのところに送ったなら、急いでニコポリにいるわたしの所にきなさい。わたしは、そこで冬を過ごすことにした。
3	13 Send Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their journey with haste, that they may lack nothing.	法学者ゼナスと、アポロとを、急いで旅につかせ、不自由のないようにしてあげなさい。
3	14 And let our people also learn to maintain good works, to meet urgent needs, that they may not be unfruitful.	わたしたちの仲間も、さし迫った必要に備えて、努めて良いわざを励み、実を結ばぬ者とならないように、心がけるべきである。
3	15 All who are with me greet you. Greet those who love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen.	わたしと共にいる一同の者から、あなたによろしく。わたしたちを愛している信徒たちに、よろしく。恵みが、あなたがた一同と共にあるように。
